00:01:40.840 door to us, Gladys Rockwell, was a very avid Women's Republican Club member and a real 0.96

00:01:48.460 conservative. Up until about the time I was 11 years old, I wanted to be an actor. My parents

00:01:55.880 correctly knew that I'd probably starve to death. They urged me to go into a trade like 1.00

00:02:01.500 electrician or a plumber or a wallboard man. Those guys made good money, my dad would say.

00:02:09.160 But well, Gladys Rockwell gave me a paperback book called Conscience of a Conservative

00:02:15.860 by Barry Goldwater. And once I read that book, it completely transformed my life.

00:02:23.440 You see, I really could identify what Goldwater was talking about, small, limited government, peace through strength, a strong national defense as a deterrent against aggressive action by the United States, ardent anti-communist, anti-communism, low taxes, low regulations, maximum personal freedom.

00:02:49.500 To me, this became an avocation.

00:02:55.140 I immediately became a Goldwater zealot.

00:02:58.260 I would ride my bike to the local Republican headquarters.

00:03:02.880 I had my bike plastered with Goldwater bumper stickers.

00:03:07.460 Of course, when you're 12 years old, you don't know too much about the realities of American politics.

00:03:12.700 I did know that Lyndon Baines Johnson was a major crook based on his involvement in the Bobby Baker scandal and the Billy Sal Estes scandal.

00:03:24.160 And of course, I was crushed when my hero, Barry Goldwater, whose posters, you know, festooned my bedroom, was defeated in one of the greatest landslides in American political history.

00:03:37.360 At that point, I began reading more about history, and I began to focus on not the 1964 election in which Goldwater was defeated, but on the 1960 election in which Richard Nixon, the vice president of the United States, had been very narrowly defeated.

00:03:58.760 And I concluded, just based on my reading, that Nixon was a much better candidate than Barry Goldwater.

00:04:07.880 Goldwater, as it turned out, was a fairly cranky guy who went out of his way to lose the 1964 election.

00:04:14.900 You see, Barry Goldwater didn't really want to run for president.

00:04:18.480 He had been drafted by the growingly dominant conservatives in the Republican Party.

00:04:24.620 He went to Florida and talked about privatizing Social Security.

00:04:29.420 He went to Tennessee and talked about privatizing the Tennessee Valley Authority.

00:04:35.020 He even waxed poetic about the possibility of using nuclear devices to defoliate the

00:04:42.220 jungles in Vietnam.

00:04:44.220 That led to his being called a warmonger, trigger happy, and of course, the devastating defeat.

00:04:51.820 Richard Nixon was more pragmatic.

00:04:53.820 I think he stood for the same things as Goldwater, but I came to the conclusion that despite the fact that he had made a number of errors in the 1960 skin-tight election with John F. Kennedy, that he'd been cheated out of victory.

00:05:09.340 Now, he bumped his knee on a car door. This was before Labor Day. That developed into a

00:05:19.260 staph infection. Nixon, as the vice president and the Republican nominee, was actually hospitalized

00:05:26.280 after Labor Day for about 10 days while he saw his opponent, the charismatic and charming,

00:05:33.900 an incredibly handsome John F. Kennedy crisscrossing the country and pulling out to a small

00:05:40.300 lead. Then, of course, Nixon made the mistake of pledging to visit all 50 states. That meant he got

00:05:47.620 stuck going to states like Vermont and Utah, where he was going to win anyway. JFK spent his time

00:05:56.680 focusing on the swing states that were under contest. And then lastly, of course, was the

00:06:03.860 decision to debate. Now, Nixon, as the vice president, told his campaign manager, told

00:06:11.900 Dwight Eisenhower that he would not debate the lesser known and less experienced John F. Kennedy.

00:06:20.520 He told New York Governor Tom Dewey that as well. So, of course, all of them were surprised when

00:06:26.480 Nixon not only agreed to debate, but agreed to a series of four debates.

00:06:33.740 That debate, of course, would end up being fatal to Nixon's candidacy.

00:06:39.360 Nixon rushed out of the hospital where he'd been laid up with a bum knee,

00:06:44.560 still on antibiotics, underweight, having lost weight in the hospital.

00:06:49.100 He hit five state rallies on his way to Chicago. 0.94

00:06:53.880 Meanwhile, John F. Kennedy was sunning himself on the roof of his Chicago hotel with two gorgeous hookers

00:07:02.680 When Nixon and Kennedy went to the sound check for their famous first televised debate 0.63

00:07:11.260 Well, they said Nixon's face was almost as gray as his suit

00:07:16.380 And then, of course, in one of the great fake-outs of all time

00:07:20.500 Don Hewitt, who was the producer of that debate, went to Senator Kennedy and said,

00:07:26.660 Senator Kennedy, will you be requiring makeup? And of course, John Kennedy said, no, no makeup

00:07:34.420 for me. Hewitt then turned to Vice President Nixon and said, Mr. Nixon, will you be requiring

00:07:40.460 makeup? Having heard Kennedy decline makeup, Nixon said, no, no makeup for me. Whereupon,

00:07:49.200 John F. Kennedy went to his dressing room where his own personal makeup man who'd been flown in

00:07:54.500 from New York made him up. Nixon's advisors had realized that he had always suffered from a

00:08:03.420 five o'clock shadow and realizing he was both pale and underweight from his recent hospital stay,

00:08:10.440 finally convinced him to use a product called Lazy Shave, which was a makeup that you applied

00:08:19.400 over your beard to conceal it. Well, the Kennedy advance men had very cleverly come into the studio

00:08:28.420 earlier and turned off the air conditioning because they knew that Nixon had a tendency

00:08:34.440 to sweat when under pressure. To his great surprise in the debate, John F. Kennedy got

00:08:42.920 to Richard Nixon's right, hitting Nixon for not doing enough as part of the Eisenhower

00:08:48.820 administration to remove Fidel Castro from Cuba, claiming that there was a missile gap

00:08:56.940 and criticizing Nixon over two Chinese islands, Kui Mui and Matsu,

00:09:04.860 that were being contested by both the communist Chinese and the nationalist Chinese in Taiwan.

00:09:13.380 Richard Nixon never expected John Kennedy to come at him from the right.

00:09:17.120 He found himself on defense or, in many cases, insisting that he and Kennedy agreed to the same goals.

00:09:25.020 that just had different methods. The debate was a disaster for the more experienced Vice President

00:09:33.680 Richard Nixon. He began to sweat, and as he began to sweat, the lazy shaved beard makeup began to

00:09:42.000 run. It is recorded that Nixon's own mother, watching this on TV, called his private secretary

00:09:48.860 Rosemary Woods and asked, is Richard unwell? After the debate, Chicago Mayor Daley was so

00:09:56.700 a bullion, he said, look at Nixon. He's not even dead yet, and they've already embalmed him.

00:10:03.840 The debate was an unmitigated disaster. Now, it is true, by the way, that those who listen to the

00:10:10.720 radio, listen to the debate on the radio, actually believe that Nixon had won, whereas those who

00:10:18.460 watched the debate on TV overwhelmingly said that Kennedy had one. In fact, Lyndon Johnson,

00:10:26.980 who was John F. Kennedy's running mate, listened to the debate on the radio, on a car radio,

00:10:34.900 actually, and thought that Kennedy had blown it. Whereas Henry Cabot Lodge, who was Nixon's

00:10:41.920 running mate for vice president and watched the debate on TV, decided that Nixon had blown it

00:10:49.680 for the Republican ticket. In any event, because of all of these mistakes, I believe that Nixon

00:10:56.820 made a late rally in that election. Dwight Eisenhower had a low regard for John F. Kennedy,

00:11:04.360 really questioned whether he was prepared for the presidency. But unbeknownst to Nixon,

00:11:11.920 Mamie Eisenhower, the first lady, had told Pat Nixon that Dwight Eisenhower's delicate heart

00:11:20.000 condition would not allow him to campaign for his own vice president and that Nixon should not ask

00:11:26.840 Ike to take to the stump. Eisenhower and Nixon were both unaware of this. Eisenhower got angrier

00:11:33.980 and angrier. First of all, he didn't want John F. Kennedy to be president. Secondarily,

00:11:38.300 he thought Nixon was trying to win on his own without the help of Ike.

00:11:43.300 What people don't know is that Eisenhower broke out of this in the end and made extraordinarily

00:11:48.640 successful campaign appearances in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles in the closing

00:11:55.040 days of the 1960 race. Nixon also, unlike the free-spending, multi-millionaire father-funded

00:12:03.860 John F. Kennedy, had husbanded his money for the close of the campaign, and therefore in the last

00:12:11.440 30 days he was competitive in terms of paid advertising like early television and, of course,

00:12:18.720 terrestrial radio. So I believed, and I believe today, that Nixon actually closed the gap.

00:12:36.120 I make a very good case that the 1960 election was stolen.

00:12:47.400 but also stolen in the state of Texas.

00:12:50.560 Now, Texas had a very interesting ballot.

00:12:55.540 In Texas, you circled the names of the candidates you were not for,

00:12:59.480 leaving uncircled the candidate you were for. It's completely disingenuous. Unfortunately,

00:13:07.240 that standard was not held in every county. The Kennedy-Johnson ticket only carried Texas by 25,000

00:13:16.760 votes over the Nixon Lodge ticket, and 95,000 Nixon Lodge ballots were discarded and burned

00:13:24.000 in Dallas County alone. So I came to the conclusion as a young man that Richard Nixon had been robbed

00:13:32.180 of the presidency. And I wrote him a letter at his New York law office where he was in exile,

00:13:38.980 urging him to run again. Imagine my surprise several years later when John Whitaker, an

00:13:47.080 assistant to former Vice President Richard Nixon, called my home, where I live with my parents,

00:13:53.300 of course, and asked whether I was still interested. Next thing you know, I was a

00:13:58.120 staff member in Richard Nixon's 1968 campaign, working essentially as a gopher. That's how it 0.57

00:15:09.120 In 1965, after the stunning defeat of my hero, Barry Goldwater, my family moved to the relatively

00:15:16.220 industrial city of Norwalk, Connecticut, where I worked on the campaign of the Connecticut

00:15:21.640 House Majority Leader, Louis J. Padula, in his race for mayor.

00:15:27.320 I got involved because I figured out that I had this specific volunteer job of setting

00:15:33.900 up and taking down all the folding chairs at the local Republican headquarters, and they were all

00:15:39.280 kept in a closet, which was locked. I was the only person with the key. So therefore, the local

00:15:44.260 Republicans couldn't have a meeting without me to unlock the door and set up the chairs. It was then

00:15:50.640 that I met Governor John Davis Lodge, who was campaigning for the Republican candidates. Lodge

00:15:57.380 was the brother of Henry Cabot Lodge, who he served as governor, congressman in Connecticut,

00:16:04.320 also as ambassador to Spain, Argentina, and later under Ronald Reagan, ambassador to Switzerland.

00:16:13.080 Lodge would become my mentor, who would ultimately get me my job with Richard Nixon. That led to my

00:16:19.040 job with Ronald Reagan, working for Reagan in the 1976, 1980, and 1984 campaigns. But it was in the

00:16:27.300 1980 campaign that I met a brash New York billionaire named Donald J. Trump. It was in

00:16:36.680 the Reagan campaign that I first became acquainted with Trump and his style. And after that election,

00:16:43.880 of course, I would go to work for Trump as a lobbyist and consultant for the Trump organization

00:16:49.460 and later for Trump Casino Hotels and Resorts.

00:16:53.920 By 1988, I figured out that Donald Trump had the courage, the stature, the stamina, and the independence

00:17:02.520 not just to be a great presidential candidate, but to actually be a great president.

00:17:09.680 I began urging him to run as early as 1988.

00:17:14.720 I urged him to run again in 2000.

00:17:16.940 In 2000, he did seriously consider being the Reform Party candidate for president.

00:17:22.840 It's because Ross Perot had run so strongly in 1992 and 1996 that the nominee of the Reform Party would automatically get a $38 million check from the U.S. federal treasury.

00:19:50.900 He said, shockingly, a judge appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, Christopher Cooper,

00:19:57.980 ruled that the Kennedy Center, which was going to close in early July for large-scale renovations

00:20:04.660 and construction due to years of neglect, decay, and poor maintenance, and which was to be

00:20:10.700 transformed by the Trump administration into the finest facility of his kind anywhere in the world,

00:20:17.080 is not allowed to close for these renovations, which would not be possible to properly do

00:20:22.580 without such a closure. Additionally, Judge Cooper ruled that the 36-member Board of Trustees,

00:20:29.420 which unanimously voted to add the name Trump onto the former Kennedy Center, making it the

00:20:36.140 Trump Kennedy Center, did not have the right to do so, adding the name Trump, and it must now be

00:20:42.960 removed. The Kennedy Center has lost over the years prior to this administration hundreds of

00:20:51.880 millions of dollars, in some cases, including ridiculous construction jobs that were done

00:20:58.160 at over $100 million a year. Trump went on to say, I took great pride in taking over a

00:21:05.120 losing institution and looked forward into making it into a great and prestigious winner

00:21:11.520 for Washington, D.C. and indeed for the United States of America. Unfortunately, Judge Cooper

00:21:18.420 and the radical left would rather see it die than have President Trump transform it into something

00:21:24.440 that everyone could be proud of as much as I've done in many cases throughout my entire life.

00:21:31.220 And recently, with all of the construction, renovations, and fix-ups that we've completed

00:21:36.800 with the Department of Interior on waterfalls, fountains, monuments, and other things of beauty

00:21:43.240 that we have brought back to life in a safe and secure atmosphere after record-setting crime in

00:21:50.840 Washington, D.C., was stopped, and the city is, of course, thriving, perhaps like never before.

00:21:58.240 Therefore, based on the fact that the radical left Democrats care more about opposing your

00:22:04.900 favorite president, that would be Trump, than saving a dying performing arts center,

00:22:10.940 almost all of which lose large amounts of money throughout the country, we're going to be working

00:22:16.960 with Congress to transfer the failing institution back to them so they can make a determine as to

00:22:23.340 what to do with it. Judge Cooper was giving a presentation by leading building and construction

00:22:28.760 experts as to how structurally dangerous the building is with rotting beams, parking areas

00:22:35.620 that are subject to collapse, and various other life and safety problems, in addition to the fact

00:22:41.800 that it also needs a major renovation from an aesthetic point of view. But the judge was not

00:22:48.160 swayed and said he wants the building to incredibly remain open and therefore dangerous.

00:22:55.020 Judge Cooper should be ashamed of himself. I cannot be involved with a situation where danger

00:23:00.360 to the public is allowed to flourish in plain and open sight. Unless I'm free to do what I

00:23:06.620 do better than anyone else in the country, bring this institution back physically, financially,

00:23:12.140 and artistically, I have no interest in continuing what can only be a hopeless journey into Never

00:23:18.600 Neverland. There's never been a president of the United States who's been treated so unfairly by

00:23:24.280 the courts, but as I say, that's okay. I will continue to do what is considered to be a great

00:23:31.040 job for the wonderful people of our country. I've instructed the Department of Commerce to make

00:23:36.560 all necessary arrangements with Congress to allow a full and complete transfer of his

00:23:41.240 institution, giving them the responsibility for its operation, its maintenance, and its

00:23:47.380 management.

00:23:53.160 Now, this is very typical of what we call judicial overreach.

00:23:57.620 Judges in the District of Columbia could care less about the law, the Constitution, legal

00:24:11.580 these judges are held responsible, meaning held up for impeachment and removal because of their

00:24:18.920 anti-constitution, anti-legal antics, I don't expect there'll be any change. We have a system

00:24:26.160 of judicial tyranny in this country. When a federal court rules that the president of the

00:24:32.280 United States does not have the authority to negotiate tariff agreements with other countries,

00:24:39.120 that's absurd. When a federal judge rules that a president of the United States does not have

00:24:44.900 the authority to arrest and deport illegal immigrants with criminal records who are in

00:24:51.620 this country, that's another example of judicial tyranny. This is one of the most serious problems

00:24:58.580 in the country. You have an entrenched hard left within our judiciary and some elements of the

00:25:05.380 Congress. They have no positive program for the country. They have no plan to create jobs. They

00:25:12.380 have no plan for safer neighborhoods and communities. They have no plans to expand

00:25:18.780 affordable and available housing. They have no plans to bring down the cost of gasoline

00:25:25.560 or bring down the price of food, they have no plan for America.

00:25:30.780 They're running on one simple idea, their hatred for Donald Trump.

00:25:36.400 It is extraordinarily sad that that's where we are in this country,

00:25:40.480 and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

00:31:13.340 The Department of Justice officials are holding these states accountable for discriminating against federal agencies, undermining immigration enforcement, and putting officers in direct danger.

00:33:33.300 A federal judge appointed, of course, by Bill Clinton has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund.

00:33:43.600 The fund was created when Trump settled a case with the IRS, where the IRS, in violation of the law, leaked presidential candidate Donald Trump's tax returns,

00:33:55.040 as well as the tax returns of members of his family when he was running for president in 2016.

00:34:00.680 It was a $10 billion suit, which the president settled for $1.8 billion,

00:34:07.340 using the money to create a fund that would reimburse or pay those who had been unfairly

00:34:14.800 targeted by the weaponized justice systems of the Biden and Obama administrations.

00:34:21.940 This order came from U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema in Alexandria, Virginia, of course a Clinton nominee.

00:34:29.920 It bars the administration from distributing money, transferring funds, considering claims, or taking further steps to create or operate the fund.

00:34:39.420 Another hearing is scheduled for June 12th.

00:34:41.740 The fund was created through the settlement, as I say, between Donald Trump and the IRS after the leak of hundreds of thousands of tax returns, including those tied to Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization employees, in what amounted to a deliberate violation, an illegal violation, of the private rights of President Trump and his families.

00:35:02.120 The Treasury Secretary Scott Besson declined to comment on the legal specifics, but defended the necessity of the anti-weaponization fund.

00:35:12.060 Besson said President Trump endured more than a decade of harassment and weaponization of federal and state actors, and that no American should be targeted for partisan political reasons.

00:35:22.780 Many people have pointed out that I myself will be eligible for a payment and reconsideration by this fund, although, candidly, I have made no decision if the fund is ultimately legal and functioning to file a claim.
