00:02:49.140 Saturday, May 3rd.
00:02:50.240 Starting at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 Pacific.
00:02:53.840 So the International Monetary Fund just announced California is the fourth largest economy in the world.
00:02:59.660 $4.1 trillion GDP, gross domestic product.
00:03:04.480 Larger than any other nation outside the United States, China, and Germany.
00:03:09.740 It's a point of pride, and it's a point of privilege to represent a state not only with the largest economy in the United States of America,
00:03:17.640 but a state that represents the tentpole of the U.S. economy in terms of job creation and innovation and entrepreneurialism.
00:03:24.840 We're also the number one manufacturing state in the United States of America and enjoy more two-way trade and direct foreign investment than any other state.
00:03:34.200 And so a consequence of these Trump tariffs, the consequence of all the uncertainty that we're now seeing all around the world
00:03:42.680 because of these unilateral tariffs that have been imposed by the Trump administration, have an outsized role on the state of California.
00:03:49.880 We're already seeing it significantly at the ports of Long Beach and the ports of L.A.
00:03:55.620 40%, 4-0% of the goods movement in the United States of America goes through those ports of entry.
00:04:03.020 Of course, all of us, though, are feeling the anxiety, the uncertainty that's marked this moment.
00:04:09.160 You have your 401k, you're seeing your life savings depleted.
00:04:13.520 And we're also seeing depletion of trust, the coin of the realm, trust around the world.
00:04:19.360 Decades and decades, 80 years of developing relationships with allies around the globe, we're seeing that trust fray in real time.
00:04:28.180 When I started this podcast, I said I wanted to listen directly to you and also want to talk a little bit to you about my own experience.
00:04:35.940 I started as a small business person.
00:04:38.140 I started right out of college with one part-time employee, Pat Kelly, and I built a business, a few dozen small businesses.
00:04:45.580 At peak, we had over 700 employees.
00:04:48.580 I say that not to impress you, but to impress upon you my passion for entrepreneurialism and an emotional attachment I have to taking those risks in those early days and the risks and uncertainty that come today as those businesses mature.
00:05:04.200 And I imagine there are many people listening that feel the same way, folks that have put everything on the line, that took that risk, that got that loan, that may even leverage their own home to make a go at it, that may have convinced a family member to come on board, had a great idea and just made it happen and it broke through.
00:05:25.400 Or those of you may be struggling with an idea that you thought would be great and you felt you were coming out the other side, but all of a sudden, all this new uncertainty has painted a picture where you've lost a little step, you've lost a little confidence.
00:05:40.840 And so I'd love to hear directly from you.
00:05:43.360 I'd love to hear how it's impacting you.
00:05:45.460 I'd love to be able to paint a picture where we could put a human face on this conversation.
00:05:50.060 What does it mean?
00:05:50.700 What does it mean to you as a parent?
00:05:52.360 What does it mean to you as a small business person, as a consumer?
00:05:56.020 Are we going to see prices start to skyrocket?
00:05:58.040 Have you already seen specific prices increase?
