This Past Weekend with Theo Von - #671 - Casey Rocket

00:00:00.480 Recently, our company's softball team lost the big game by one run.

00:00:04.800 Then Dale tried to console us with the quote,

00:00:07.200 winning isn't everything.

00:00:09.060 Well, Dale and I are very different.

00:00:12.740 I get early payout from Bet365.

00:00:14.680 If my team goes up big, I get paid out instantly,

00:00:17.480 even if they blow the lead later.

00:00:19.540 Sound familiar, Dale?

00:00:21.280 Thanks, Bet365.

00:00:30.000 today's guest is a stand-up comedian his uh his origins are mysterious

00:00:35.360 yes but you'll know him from his wildly popular kill tony appearances uh he's on the road now

00:00:43.440 you can see him live um there's no one like him there's no one like him i had a great time

00:00:51.800 with today's guest the sultan of riff mr casey rocket

00:00:57.940 sometimes i can't tell if i'm having like male hot flashes or whatever sure men of a certain age

00:01:19.760 every age every age maybe men of a certain age being the spectrum of all ages yeah

00:01:25.800 dude i think these days things have gotten crazy you'll see a little kid having a hot flash or

00:01:30.120 whatever he'll be like you know you'll see a little kid is like go like just looking from

00:01:34.780 like a a faucet people are like they're people are trying to do anything they can to cool these

00:01:40.700 kids off yeah yeah to help to help themselves sure yeah a spigot you'll see people doing like

00:01:47.980 the the level we've gotten to in a society of trying to help ourselves is crazy it's like

00:01:52.900 people are playing like a lot of like certain hertz of sounds that is supposed to like

00:01:57.520 you know help you pass old uh trauma or help you uh you know uh win the lottery like there's a lot

00:02:04.760 like there's a lot of megahertz that's variable for different options you know yeah yeah there's

00:02:10.200 all kinds of sounds that can help you win the lottery um i'm the first to admit that yeah so

00:02:16.360 certain like tonal certain like tonal shifts so if you go like low like you'll win what is it

00:02:22.760 like 10 to 20 grand yes so but the higher ones they get dangerous for your like what do they

00:02:28.000 call it like um terminal mental velocity yeah yeah well when people win too much money it induces

00:02:33.900 a lot i think it's called high dollar trauma or something hdt and you you will see people with

00:02:40.380 that like rich people or whatever and they're suddenly eating like rare cheeses cheeses made

00:02:46.140 from, you know, obviously the, you know, cultivated or pasteurized in the tiers of the poor and 0.91

00:02:52.300 young. Yes. Well, what did they say? It's like old money at the poverty line. So it's like LA,

00:02:59.200 LA by way of New York. So the lower the cheese is on like a vibrational frequency, the higher

00:03:06.260 the dollar amount you don't have to pay. It's like a tax write off. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, definitely.

00:03:10.460 If you get, cause there's somebody running around with a 425 megahertz queso dip right now.

00:03:16.140 I know there's a truck that just stalled out on the way to the Hamptons.

00:03:18.700 It was full of it.

00:03:20.160 The engine just could not function like that.

00:03:22.180 Yeah.

00:03:22.620 I think when you're pushing that much high-dollar dairy and you're pulling it behind you, 0.95

00:03:28.640 and you have a fucking probably a seventh or eighth grade reading-level driver. 0.95

00:03:32.640 Sure. 0.99

00:03:33.760 Yeah, the polarity there is just not healthy.

00:03:36.420 And it's like, where does the buck stop?

00:03:37.700 The buck stops when the truck stops, as they say.

00:03:41.920 Yeah, dude.

00:03:43.180 That's how it should be.

00:03:43.720 God, if queso made us freaking smarter, God, can you even imagine?

00:03:47.920 Can you imagine the mental bandwidth I would have right now?

00:03:51.060 Because I had all queso breakfast.

00:03:52.860 Did you?

00:03:53.620 Yeah.

00:03:54.200 So frozen solid liquid, yeah.

00:03:56.620 Oh, wow.

00:03:57.380 So you get like, what is it, like a fudge pop of like frozen queso fresco.

00:04:02.360 And then you go like, okay, you go chili con carne, pure liquid.

00:04:07.080 So you leave that on the dashboard.

00:04:08.040 and then you go with the gas which is um just like a handful of like ritz and those are so good

00:04:15.460 and what i've also heard is that they have those new queso whippets or whatever 0.99

00:04:19.000 like a whippet like pimento cheese whippets and you fucking galaxy gas yeah yeah you hit a couple 1.00

00:04:26.540 of those brother oh i got a stomach ache oh you'll get sick yeah you left to shit you'll have to poop 1.00

00:04:32.740 But yeah, it's bad for your appendix, yeah. 1.00

00:04:35.160 Oh, these days your appendix will burst,

00:04:37.220 or a rich person will hire you to burst your appendix so they don't have to.

00:04:41.460 Sure.

00:04:42.420 Yeah, they'll tether you up.

00:04:43.520 That's what happened to Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses.

00:04:46.820 He accidentally tethered to himself.

00:04:48.920 Yeah.

00:04:50.460 We've been dancing with Mr. Brownstone.

00:04:55.460 God, dude.

00:04:56.500 Too much of a good thing.

00:04:57.520 Too much dashboard queso.

00:05:00.980 Yum.

00:05:01.440 That's our band name.

00:05:02.740 Like the String Cheese incident.

00:05:04.880 Oh, God, dude.

00:05:05.940 I used to follow widespread some.

00:05:07.500 Did you?

00:05:08.040 Really?

00:05:08.500 Yeah.

00:05:09.200 I think I know, well, not widespread, but I know someone in the Testeghi Trucks Band.

00:05:14.220 Do you?

00:05:15.240 Dwayne.

00:05:16.500 Johnson?

00:05:17.160 Allman.

00:05:17.600 Dwayne the Rock Johnson.

00:05:18.940 Dwayne Allman.

00:05:19.980 Yeah.

00:05:20.500 I've always wanted a last name that was a nut.

00:05:23.220 Bring him up, Dwayne Allman.

00:05:25.420 Peter Pistachio?

00:05:28.060 Or a pea.

00:05:29.000 Or like Ronnie Garbanzo or whatever.

00:05:30.860 Like a bean, maybe.

00:05:31.780 Yeah.

00:05:32.260 Wait, is Dwayne Allman dead?

00:05:34.500 Oh no, he died in 1971

00:05:36.520 Who have I been talking to?

00:05:40.000 Oh dude

00:05:40.920 It's probably one of those 1.00

00:05:42.460 Nigerian scammers 1.00

00:05:43.960 He's like, hey, I want to teach you steel guitar 1.00

00:05:46.340 And I'm like, great

00:05:47.880 That sounds great

00:05:49.800 Melissa

00:05:51.180 Melissa

00:05:52.060 What's the catch? I'm going to teach you how to play southbound

00:05:55.660 Alright

00:05:56.760 KC Rocket, good to see you, man

00:05:58.920 Good to see you

00:05:59.460 Thanks for talking KSO

00:06:02.120 Oh, yeah, dude.

00:06:03.600 It's almost, well, I misread your name earlier, and that's what even had me thinking about it.

00:06:08.760 I thought it was Queso Rocket.

00:06:10.520 Sure, yeah.

00:06:14.080 Queso Object Permanence Rocket. 1.00

00:06:16.380 There should be, like, a Latino version of you that comes out named Queso Rocket. 1.00

00:06:21.940 And I go, this person's an imposter. 0.99

00:06:24.600 And he's like, no, I'm not.

00:06:26.600 Huh?

00:06:27.560 He's all liquid.

00:06:30.220 So sick.

00:06:31.100 god i hope we're okay um me too a riff like that will make you start questioning like your

00:06:38.480 your purpose in the world yeah things get rough dude well i was it reminded me it took me to a

00:06:43.840 place when i went to see um i went and we watched it was at a music festival one weekend it was in

00:06:51.200 new orleans it's called a jazz and heritage festival it's every year and it's uh they had

00:06:56.620 who was playing

00:06:58.320 the guy 1.00

00:06:59.920 shit 1.00

00:07:02.700 some guy that was gonna die soon 1.00

00:07:05.100 and was that

00:07:06.860 so was that the general consensus

00:07:09.440 or you like retroactively

00:07:10.980 you were like he was about to die

00:07:12.660 I mean

00:07:13.980 he would have like he was out there

00:07:16.780 but his kid was singing with him kind of

00:07:18.700 you know like when they get the kids out there

00:07:20.400 and he's sitting over there

00:07:22.600 and somebody just kind of spraying water on him 1.00

00:07:24.160 almost like he's like one of those Indian

00:07:26.460 plants or whatever that helped David Allen Coe that happened with Ozzy too they like hooked him

00:07:30.740 up to a life support machine I was there I was in Birmingham I saw Ozzy's last concert were you

00:07:35.680 really yeah and did they like was he on an IV and stuff while he was up there um yeah he was in like

00:07:40.440 a UV light really yeah they had him in like it was like a makeshift like final destination tanning

00:07:47.540 machine so it was like but it was like pointed outward so he didn't have to be laying down

00:07:52.720 but see so that is a tanning bed you can see the blue yeah it helped him like he had like

00:07:59.820 photosynthesis it made him like effervescent i mean that's the darkest tanning bed you can get

00:08:05.960 they're like how dark do you want to go it's like we offer like uh you know uh pensacola alabama

00:08:13.060 tri-delta pensacola beach or we also can go all the way we can do ozzy last show dark we could do

00:08:21.300 South Padre Island or

00:08:23.080 you in a casket. So that,

00:08:25.220 they're actually pointing an EMP at him.

00:08:27.060 That's a sound weapon. So

00:08:28.500 he has Havana syndrome.

00:08:31.240 Oh, yeah.

00:08:33.040 Oh, yeah, dude. And he's just singing that

00:08:35.120 song.

00:08:37.000 San Juan.

00:08:39.660 Mejijo. Have you seen those

00:08:41.080 freaking TikToks, dude?

00:08:43.940 It's a bunch of people 1.00

00:08:45.340 that can't read and they're going to Puerto

00:08:47.080 Rico or whatever. And so they made a

00:08:49.140 song about it. Have you seen that, Trevin?

00:08:51.300 I have not.

00:08:51.880 What was the song?

00:08:52.500 San Juan?

00:08:52.980 It's like, it's a lot of people that are in trouble reading and writing who refuse to teach their kids how to read and write because they can't, right?

00:08:59.920 Sure.

00:09:00.840 Well, that's a good reason for not doing it.

00:09:03.100 Yeah.

00:09:03.500 I agree.

00:09:04.000 But for years, people have been pretending they can, and then they show the kid.

00:09:08.500 And that's like trickle-down ignoromics, right?

00:09:11.780 Sure.

00:09:12.480 It's Reagan started it. 1.00

00:09:14.440 And that's the kind of shit that we don't need in the community. 0.99

00:09:17.040 so a lot of them are going to San Juan 0.99

00:09:19.140 and they're doing this song on the way there

00:09:21.140 to gain points with their lord

00:09:24.020 okay and then when they land

00:09:25.780 hopefully they have enough like spiritual

00:09:27.560 savings account

00:09:29.280 to not go bankrupt

00:09:30.740 to get a Carlos and Charlie shirt

00:09:33.860 on the way home

00:09:34.520 can you bring it up?

00:09:36.420 you haven't seen this thing dude?

00:09:37.800 I don't even know if we can play this or not

00:09:39.780 hopefully it's not copyrighted

00:09:42.140 I think it was

00:09:43.420 AI made the song

00:09:44.620 that was the craziest thing about it

00:09:46.020 This is it

00:09:47.700 Oh okay

00:09:48.080 So I am into stuff like this

00:09:49.460 Yeah

00:09:49.660 Have you heard this?

00:10:00.800 No

00:10:01.440 So it's basically

00:10:03.260 It's music pretty much

00:10:07.340 For the learning disabled 1.00

00:10:09.040 Okay 1.00

00:10:09.480 Which is where we are

00:10:10.780 There's a whole new genre of music

00:10:13.260 For the learning disabled

00:10:14.780 Sure 1.00

00:10:15.400 Or it helps with like shapes and colors.

00:10:17.280 Well, we thought for years they were listening to what we were listening to, right?

00:10:20.380 And finally people were like, no, they need their own music.

00:10:24.640 Play a little more.

00:10:25.500 Play a little.

00:10:25.980 Just keep going.

00:10:32.440 In the boot scootin' boogie.

00:10:35.720 Yeah, so it's like spiritual dyslexia.

00:10:39.000 Yes.

00:10:39.400 Well, that's exactly what it is.

00:10:40.780 And I think it's, I want to say it's Baptist-based.

00:10:42.880 I'm not sure.

00:10:43.720 But is there some

00:10:46.020 Well you can see

00:10:48.380 Kind of like

00:10:49.420 The proving ground of like the Pentecostal

00:10:52.520 Religion as well

00:10:53.420 You can see some of that seeping into the ground water 0.99

00:10:55.920 Oh it's

00:10:57.720 You know sometimes you wake up and your legs are all

00:11:00.120 Soggy and you're like

00:11:01.140 How do I drive these puppies out

00:11:03.400 Who did this and why

00:11:06.020 Who did this and why because I used to always

00:11:08.300 Know someone would pee in my bed every night and it wasn't me

00:11:10.560 How could it be

00:11:12.300 dude it couldn't have been that many times no once or twice you go all right i've been making

00:11:19.280 some mistakes yeah four or five ten times you get up to double digits you go like i'm being

00:11:23.380 persecuted yeah definitely i'm being gang stalked by a bunch of pissers yeah dude it's obvious that

00:11:29.800 they're sneaking in through our broken window downstairs near the kitchen yeah they're coming 0.68

00:11:34.280 up they're pissing on your boy okay i've talked to the landlord he won't answer him it goes to

00:11:40.220 Melor de Mon. 0.52

00:11:41.980 Yeah, dude.

00:11:42.820 Every time I call the landlord,

00:11:44.540 it goes to a front desk of Christian Dior somewhere.

00:11:47.980 So they have no clue what we're talking about.

00:11:50.700 No, they go, first of all,

00:11:52.860 how can you smell through the phone?

00:11:55.500 I don't know.

00:11:56.260 You tell me he's pissing my bed,

00:11:57.580 and I'll answer your little inquiry.

00:11:59.060 They're like, we could replace the sheets.

00:12:01.680 That'll be $1,100. 0.99

00:12:03.460 And you're like, god damn. 1.00

00:12:05.800 I'll just sit here in poverty and piss. 1.00

00:12:08.480 I'll sit here in the potty bed I made 1.00

00:12:10.980 A water bed full of piss 0.99

00:12:12.460 Oh, dude, that 0.94

00:12:14.120 That is what we need is

00:12:16.560 This is where we're gonna get to

00:12:17.920 Because society's getting weird, can we agree?

00:12:19.880 Sure, I'm the second to admit that

00:12:21.860 You were the first, yeah

00:12:22.700 And I'm glad we're here

00:12:24.860 And society is getting weird

00:12:28.080 People are not wearing gloves anymore when they drive

00:12:30.300 Yeah

00:12:31.320 I saw an animal the other day, no hoofs on his feet 0.92

00:12:34.360 Okay, yeah, what happened to the nuclear family?

00:12:37.860 It's a big question, dude. 1.00

00:12:39.800 I saw two gay men. 1.00

00:12:41.700 They were wearing dog collars. 1.00

00:12:43.040 Dog sitting there smoking in the car by himself.

00:12:46.580 Windows up.

00:12:47.780 Ruins the resale value.

00:12:50.460 It's just nobody.

00:12:52.180 I don't know if people don't care or if they've taken our ability to care away.

00:12:58.780 Yeah.

00:12:59.740 If it is endemic of a greater social, sociopolitical problem or if it's engendered upon the human race in general.

00:13:06.380 Yeah.

00:13:06.940 because that's a big question because the first thing you would take away from somebody is their

00:13:11.240 ability to care yes yeah because it leaves you in a spot you know yeah well the one true export of

00:13:18.200 all of the maleficence of consciousness is uh hope without faith god that gives me that gives me the

00:13:25.380 shivers that's so scary so people are now dogs without nails god and they still think they're

00:13:34.880 scratching each other's backs.

00:13:36.100 No, they were born on third base

00:13:37.860 and they thought they hit a triple.

00:13:39.440 Yeah.

00:13:40.360 It's a different time, man.

00:13:42.660 The zygotes are different.

00:13:44.400 Yeah.

00:13:45.240 I'll say that.

00:13:46.760 Sure.

00:13:47.400 Have you seen a cat scan of a woman's belly recently?

00:13:53.340 Isn't it like a recent, like an up-to-date cat scan? 1.00

00:13:56.700 I've been looking at like old ones

00:13:58.460 to see how the technology's progressed. 0.94

00:14:01.020 One woman. 0.99

00:14:02.460 One woman. 1.00

00:14:03.020 One woman had a Frisbee and an eight ball in there. 1.00

00:14:05.800 Oh, no. 1.00

00:14:06.360 That was it.

00:14:07.720 Yeah.

00:14:08.040 So whatever is living in there or part-time or whatever is keeping its luggage there.

00:14:12.580 Sure.

00:14:13.060 Okay, obviously.

00:14:15.960 Likes to party at the park, you know.

00:14:18.700 That was a great WCW pay-per-view, the party at the park.

00:14:22.180 Was that one?

00:14:23.540 I know they did the bash at the beach, so I can only hope that they did the party at the park.

00:14:27.620 Oh, I hope they did too.

00:14:28.780 And it was a kind of a – it was a beautiful day.

00:14:30.900 It was by a river, right?

00:14:32.100 Yeah.

00:14:32.260 They hung, like, a briefcase full of the world's, like, the finest charcuterie board in the world, right?

00:14:37.500 They hung the finest charcuterie board in the world up, and you had to climb up a ladder, right?

00:14:42.720 And then you had to get three strong kids, and you had to climb up one of their backs, right?

00:14:46.980 And you didn't know which one, and the winner got it.

00:14:48.860 You didn't know which one had the best back.

00:14:50.280 Yeah.

00:14:51.120 Because they kept their shirts on.

00:14:54.080 So it's purely intuition.

00:14:56.440 And also, if you're standing there, intuitioning which kid has a nice back, dude,

00:15:01.000 if you do it too strongly you go to jail right so it would take you longer to get to the charcuterie

00:15:07.000 yeah and if you do it too long also booker t is gonna hit you with a chair so it's yeah that was

00:15:13.140 like a good thought experiment that was like the stanford prison experiment in action oh it's where

00:15:17.660 we are um casey rocket dude good to see you man good to see you happy to be here it's awesome

00:15:24.920 dude you're such a talent and it's great to just see you like in the wild you were in huntington 0.88

00:15:30.160 last night i saw yeah it was in huntsville or huntsville yeah they keep changing the fucking 0.63

00:15:34.520 name i know because they're trying to avoid the irs or whatever yeah i actually it's funny before 0.80

00:15:39.920 i came here i i took a shower a um gregorian greco-roman shower and uh which is of course

00:15:46.860 a cheese a cheese danish that i put in a bunch of socks and i kind of strain it out over my head

00:15:51.500 but i wrote on my hand i wrote on my hand last night i don't know why but i wrote santa cruz

00:15:58.900 or Santa Fe, one of the Santas.

00:16:01.060 So that doesn't really answer your question,

00:16:03.480 but I did just look at my hand.

00:16:05.560 But if the question was,

00:16:07.360 did you just look at your hand, the answer is yes.

00:16:09.620 Okay, okay.

00:16:11.460 Yeah, I was in Huntsville at Levity Live.

00:16:14.700 That was great.

00:16:16.000 Oh, yeah.

00:16:16.500 The stage, the location from the stage to the audience,

00:16:20.640 it has a unique ratio there.

00:16:23.120 Do you feel that there?

00:16:24.500 I do.

00:16:25.160 Like the height of the stage

00:16:26.300 and the ratio of the audience is very rare there.

00:16:29.500 It is.

00:16:30.000 It is quite unusual, actually.

00:16:31.380 The Heliums aren't set up like that.

00:16:33.420 Even, you know, Zany's Nashville, Zany's Chicago.

00:16:36.420 Zany's Rosemont's kind of like that.

00:16:37.840 Is it?

00:16:39.060 Slower to the ground.

00:16:40.420 I haven't spent time out there.

00:16:41.520 I would love to get out there.

00:16:44.220 I'm not allowed to go.

00:16:45.480 I shouldn't be there, I don't think.

00:16:48.540 But one day I will go when my mom passes.

00:16:52.160 Sure.

00:16:52.920 I'm going to get out there because she would want me to see it.

00:16:56.780 That's why.

00:16:58.040 She'd want you, yeah, to see how they make the spaceships. 0.97

00:17:01.980 They do the spaceships there.

00:17:03.460 She would want me to see it, man.

00:17:05.100 Lockheed Martin.

00:17:06.120 Oh, is that where they're based?

00:17:07.720 Yeah, Lockheed Martin there.

00:17:08.760 That's where they reverse engineer the anti-gravity technology.

00:17:12.120 So apparently that's where some of the scientists are going missing.

00:17:16.060 You know, those scientists.

00:17:17.740 Oh, is that where that's happening really?

00:17:19.380 In Rosemont?

00:17:19.900 One of them went the way of the dodo.

00:17:21.660 Not Rosemont at Huntsville.

00:17:24.900 Oh, and that's where those scientists have gone missing out in Huntsville? 0.98

00:17:28.460 So one of them in particular, she did go the way the dodo. 1.00

00:17:31.600 She did take an early exit.

00:17:34.340 But, yeah, they're being missing all over the place.

00:17:38.180 It's crazy, dude.

00:17:39.520 From MIT to MIA, bro, that's the craziest.

00:17:42.500 At least 10 individuals connected to sensitive U.S. aerospace, nuclear, and defense research have died or disappeared recently.

00:17:50.680 That's two different things, though.

00:17:52.880 Disappearing.

00:17:53.900 Yeah.

00:17:54.360 that gives me more pause that we're part of some like greater like neo-noir detective thing yeah

00:18:00.620 them just just dying i mean people die every day people die every day yeah william neil mccaslin

00:18:07.980 a retired u.s air force major major general he vanished from his new mexico home in february

00:18:13.960 2026 leaving his phone and identification behind well santa claus or santa fe dude that takes you

00:18:20.640 back to that question man that's a tough one sure yeah well somebody let the door open and the wrong 0.97

00:18:25.360 dogs came home you know i know who it was it was some of those piss warriors from freaking christian 0.70

00:18:31.880 dior probably pulled up and wet that dude down a little you create you create enough of a uh of a 0.99

00:18:40.180 you know of a of a stream in the kitchen a senior is gonna fuck yeah flash flood oh a senior does 0.99

00:18:47.140 not stand a chance against a flash flood and i'll say that out loud brother i'll run into a damn 0.99

00:18:51.680 vineyard vines and scream mad sure and i'll be receptive to it the whole time yeah yeah i'll be 0.97

00:18:57.820 sitting there back there with a good book just going god dang he's right he's right you'll poke

00:19:05.000 your head out of a changing room be like all right never had a chance yeah if you slick somebody up

00:19:16.100 and I've said this for months

00:19:20.320 I was there when you said it

00:19:21.460 if you slick somebody up good enough

00:19:23.500 anything can be a slip and slide

00:19:25.820 so a staircase, most homes have a staircase

00:19:28.240 so if they're slick enough

00:19:29.480 bye, bye bye

00:19:30.920 grandpa, and he's gone

00:19:33.620 you can barely even

00:19:34.820 or you try to use his real name

00:19:37.600 then Henry

00:19:38.860 that's the craziest thing 1.00

00:19:40.960 now a black grandpa 1.00

00:19:42.340 they'll mill around a little 0.99

00:19:44.940 but even the stream's even going to get them, you know, you would think.

00:19:50.220 Well, yeah.

00:19:51.120 They, you know, they're probably more worldly, 0.94

00:19:53.900 and they'll see the stream maybe before the white grandpa, 0.94

00:19:58.800 but either way, when the flood comes, come on, man.

00:20:03.560 You don't stand a chance, baby.

00:20:05.140 That's the Bible working.

00:20:06.620 Yeah, that's Noah.

00:20:08.220 The piss flood. 0.57

00:20:09.900 That's it, brother. 0.98

00:20:11.660 Drip, drip.

00:20:12.600 It's scary to think about.

00:20:13.980 It's scary to think about, dude.

00:20:16.980 You're living in Chicago now, huh?

00:20:22.640 Yeah, I moved from Austin in December,

00:20:25.620 and I lived in St. Louis for six months,

00:20:27.960 and now I've been settling in Chicago, yeah.

00:20:30.640 How's it been there?

00:20:31.980 It's been good.

00:20:33.180 They have a hot dog culture that is out of this world,

00:20:37.160 Relish Mustard the Works.

00:20:39.560 Oh, yeah.

00:20:40.140 And the people have been treating me with grace and kindness.

00:20:44.680 And I, in turn, have been passing on to them a smile.

00:20:50.240 Very fair.

00:20:51.480 Yeah.

00:20:51.840 Did you miss Austin when you left?

00:20:53.720 What was the reason of leaving Austin?

00:20:56.840 Because things were going good there, right?

00:20:59.220 Sure, yeah.

00:21:00.360 Yeah, I worked at a mothership for a year, and I won the equivalent.

00:21:07.200 I won the Austins, not the funniest person,

00:21:09.420 but the Austin comedy competition.

00:21:10.740 So yeah, I was really ingrained in the scene there.

00:21:13.140 And that was 2021, was it, or no?

00:21:15.040 When I won that, I moved there in 2021.

00:21:17.980 I think I won that in 2023, maybe.

00:21:20.700 Okay.

00:21:21.860 But yeah, I have a lot of really great friends there.

00:21:23.780 I felt like maybe it was time for me to do something else.

00:21:28.420 I'm going to grad school.

00:21:29.400 So you wrote me a letter of recommendation for that.

00:21:33.000 and I'm going to DePaul to do screenwriting.

00:21:36.640 So I just wanted to make some changes in my life, yeah.

00:21:39.720 That's wild, dude.

00:21:41.100 Congratulations, man.

00:21:42.020 Thanks.

00:21:42.460 On getting in over there.

00:21:43.340 Are you excited about it?

00:21:44.320 I am.

00:21:44.840 It starts in September,

00:21:45.780 and then I'm going to write my great American novel.

00:21:48.640 Dude.

00:21:49.460 Yep.

00:21:50.240 Is there a novel that you kind of were inspired by?

00:21:53.060 Like, was there a novel that you kind of read

00:21:54.960 that led you to even kind of spark that in your head?

00:21:57.640 Or a book that you read that kind of sparked that in your head?

00:21:59.600 Because I think, like, I like to write,

00:22:01.020 so I think there's things in, like,

00:22:02.440 there was one book i read and i was like huh yeah there's some good like memoir type books that i

00:22:08.440 really liked one of them is a book called permanent midnight by a guy named jerry stall

00:22:13.200 that they made into a movie with ben stiller um another great one is sing backwards and weep

00:22:19.760 by mark lane again who used to be the lead singer of the screaming trees um so yeah some memoirs

00:22:26.580 and then a lot of like screenplays like obviously i'm a big fan as most people are of paul thomas

00:22:31.200 anderson who did magnolia and one battle after another pta pta yeah so yeah i love movies and

00:22:40.660 i like movies and i'm just as happy with a good book i can't stress that enough

00:22:45.580 but yeah i want to learn how to like write screenplays and stuff like that and

00:22:49.580 i want to be a multi-hyphenate i want to be a bad boy and i want to be a sweetie

00:22:54.300 how do you do that i wonder i'm trying to think of like a candy that really presents itself like

00:23:00.160 that oh sour patch kids you think oh because they're kids and there's nothing more rotten than

00:23:06.540 a kid right but they're yeah but but they're also very cherubian kids are very cherubescent

00:23:12.360 sure they're very much like the angels they're god's little wiggers or whatever right and so

00:23:20.200 when you add that sourness to them you're saying this is another thing about them and you might

00:23:25.500 Not like a white boy. 0.99

00:23:27.780 You might not like a little piglet. 1.00

00:23:29.880 Yeah, so I think there's a lot of that that goes on.

00:23:32.660 Sure.

00:23:33.160 When you combine stuff like that, there's also some candies that some people can't even get through.

00:23:37.560 Like we had kids that couldn't handle gobstoppers or whatever, and they had to move to another school.

00:23:42.180 We'd have kids, you know, and people were like, you know what I'm saying?

00:23:44.340 Like they just couldn't, they couldn't figure it out.

00:23:47.340 Sure.

00:23:47.620 Well, it's a lesson in patience.

00:23:49.660 It's – for me, when I think of gobstoppers, I think that the line of demarcation is only visible to those outside the cultural means of production.

00:23:57.780 And so it really is Leninism at its most Stalingradian, but it's beautiful.

00:24:05.380 So you can see that it's actually a model of the universe.

00:24:07.140 Oh, they call them the Berlin Ball, you know?

00:24:09.760 That's why – because you just – there's so much to go through.

00:24:13.120 There's so much.

00:24:14.020 You have to be willing to do it.

00:24:15.820 You have to be.

00:24:16.520 If you want to get to that center, which is just plutonium, it is yellow cake uranium.

00:24:23.660 So it'll make you sick as a dog, but it'll make you grow in ways you should not.

00:24:27.640 Oh, dude.

00:24:28.420 I saw a kid who had to take his shoes off in the middle of one because his feet were popping right out of him.

00:24:34.060 This is Forever Chemicals.

00:24:35.340 And a lot of rumors is that Wonka was working early with Forever Chemicals.

00:24:40.500 That's rumor.

00:24:41.680 Yeah.

00:24:42.380 But there's a lot of PFAs in there.

00:24:44.260 I saw a video the other day that people's grandparents now have PFAs in them,

00:24:47.700 so they're suggesting, like, shutting down hugs, shutting down.

00:24:51.740 Yeah, well, the original recipe was Zyklon B,

00:24:54.480 so it does make people, like, it'll make you happy in the moment but sad for a lifetime.

00:24:59.400 Yeah, so it's your choice, bucko.

00:25:01.640 Yeah.

00:25:02.160 You know, pick your battles.

00:25:02.840 You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch, you know.

00:25:06.220 That's what's going on.

00:25:07.840 Short answer, yes, several popular candies formerly marketed under the Wonka brand,

00:25:12.760 like nerds in Laffy Taffy

00:25:14.480 have recently tested positive

00:25:15.640 for very high levels of arsenic.

00:25:19.060 Thank you, perplexity,

00:25:20.460 which is a persistent forever contaminant

00:25:22.860 in the environment

00:25:23.580 and can accumulate in the body over time.

00:25:27.340 That's not good.

00:25:28.560 It's not good.

00:25:29.340 It's not.

00:25:29.900 Is it worth it though?

00:25:31.900 Sure.

00:25:32.760 Yeah. 0.50

00:25:33.480 They make the candies good.

00:25:34.420 When you're a kid

00:25:35.320 and you get the nerds

00:25:37.380 or what was it for you?

00:25:38.320 Was there a candy that you were like,

00:25:39.880 yeah.

00:25:41.040 Maybe like a Charleston Chew.

00:25:43.300 Oh.

00:25:44.120 Inside the freezer in a fridge that's unplugged.

00:25:47.140 So it's planting this seed of like this is getting.

00:25:51.480 So it's like, so like my body's telling me this is getting colder.

00:25:55.740 Yeah.

00:25:56.040 But my heart of hearts is like, brother, you know, this is room town.

00:26:00.920 Here was an old trick we would use if we were driving around and doing coke, right?

00:26:04.660 Sure.

00:26:05.340 We'd fill the glove box with Charleston Chews, right?

00:26:07.680 So when the cop pulled you over, you open that, he sees them all fall out. 0.61

00:26:11.160 And he goes, uh-oh, sorry, fellas.

00:26:14.440 Be on your way.

00:26:15.340 Sorry, boys.

00:26:16.260 It was just like it changed the level of anger and curiosity of the cop.

00:26:23.860 Sure.

00:26:24.380 It put it a little bit more of a joy.

00:26:26.220 Yeah. 1.00

00:26:26.560 It was a little bit more, oh, wow, there's piñatas in here.

00:26:29.480 Yeah, these are just a couple of candy guys out for a midnight stroll.

00:26:32.080 Well, the original tagline for Sour Patch Kids was,

00:26:36.980 there is no greater sin than the sin of being born.

00:26:39.180 So that is powerful.

00:26:42.600 Well, it's something.

00:26:43.820 I remember Sugar Honkies Unite had that. 0.83

00:26:47.060 Who had that slogan? 0.90

00:26:48.580 Okay.

00:26:50.220 Because that was a big one.

00:26:52.780 Isn't there a candy called Sugar Daddies?

00:26:55.120 Oh, there was.

00:26:56.060 And then a website bought it out.

00:26:58.120 But there was also Sugar Ain't Got Nothing on this clan.

00:27:00.960 Who had that?

00:27:02.300 Who had that, dude?

00:27:03.900 The sugar union?

00:27:05.200 Yeah.

00:27:05.480 Oh, no.

00:27:06.740 They're like the Pinkertons. 0.99

00:27:08.280 Sugar daddies. 0.98

00:27:09.260 That was it, man.

00:27:10.460 Oh, they were a thing.

00:27:11.600 And then you eat a couple of them and you go, I shouldn't be eating this.

00:27:14.460 Yeah.

00:27:15.200 You have one sugar daddy.

00:27:16.680 You go, I shouldn't be eating that.

00:27:17.900 You're right.

00:27:18.660 And then they gave the babies away.

00:27:20.520 Here's the craziest part. 0.80

00:27:21.620 And this is going back to the nuclear family breaking down. 0.79

00:27:24.940 There's never a mother involved, you know? 0.72

00:27:28.260 No.

00:27:28.980 It was sugar daddy, sugar babies.

00:27:31.340 Sure.

00:27:31.780 It was like, yeah, the pursuit of happiness.

00:27:33.840 It was like gorgeous, but tragic.

00:27:36.400 Oh, yeah.

00:27:36.840 It was like I Am Legend or whatever.

00:27:38.640 It was like iRobot.

00:27:40.340 Yeah.

00:27:40.680 It was very similar to some of that, dude.

00:27:43.040 It was kind of like her with Joaquin Phoenix.

00:27:45.520 It was just a challenged man dancing around in a mall.

00:27:51.600 Willing to dry up the air to get a little sugar in his system.

00:27:57.080 The old reboot.

00:27:58.420 Yeah, they called that the old Milwaukee handshake.

00:28:00.440 Oh.

00:28:01.120 Yum.

00:28:01.780 oh, God, there's nothing that'll make you leave your family faster

00:28:05.040 than a good bit of sugar.

00:28:09.800 I thought, and I hate to default to riff,

00:28:13.320 I thought, surely, you were talking about Wonka

00:28:16.780 being a progenor of forever chemicals.

00:28:21.560 I was like, oh, surely, this is just a Christmas riff.

00:28:24.380 And then you pulled up the paper trail,

00:28:27.700 which

00:28:28.640 engendered this idea that

00:28:31.820 it was very much factual

00:28:32.840 where yeah it is bad it's giving people

00:28:35.860 bone stuff

00:28:36.560 that's not good

00:28:38.580 and the saddest part is the injuries

00:28:41.480 our grandfathers had real injuries

00:28:43.700 like missing a limb from like

00:28:45.360 you know he was you know got drunk

00:28:47.540 and he was petting a landmine or something in Iwo Jima

00:28:50.020 right right

00:28:50.780 missing his wife maybe put some of his wife clothes 1.00

00:28:53.700 on a landmine got a little crazy whatever

00:28:55.760 lost a limb lost half

00:28:57.460 You know, lost something important that had semen hiding in it.

00:29:01.000 But now it's just some guy, you know, you see some guy in a wheelchair and you're like, what happened?

00:29:05.820 He's like, you know, I had too many nerd ropes, you know, or something.

00:29:09.400 Like just the turnover, the embarrassment of our injuries is going to start to get real and it's going to start to get real fast.

00:29:18.980 Oh, yeah.

00:29:19.680 Well, it's already, they call it, it's at the event horizon.

00:29:22.420 So, like, we can't stop what's coming.

00:29:25.420 We can only hope to, like, build a fallout shelter.

00:29:28.820 But, yeah, I've met some older guys who thought that, like, nerds' clusters were, like, basically like a tasty hydrogen bomb.

00:29:38.000 So it, like, looks like the atom, like the base molecules of human life. 0.51

00:29:43.040 But they eat them and they, like, shit their pants and scream at their family or whatever.

00:29:48.020 But then the crazy part is they start to choose that. 0.55

00:29:51.060 Yes.

00:29:51.540 They choose that behavior.

00:29:52.900 Yeah.

00:29:53.560 They don't know any better.

00:29:54.100 But it's going to get weird when, or what, you know, what happened to you, you know, and you're like, yeah, I hurt my, you know, like I was after years of plowing or working or whatever, doing trade work or whatever. 0.97

00:30:04.820 And now it just can be like, you know, after years of hiding from my wife in the other room eating whatchamacallits or whatever, now, you know, I have a fucking, I have a pH balance of a fucking fluorescent light bulb at a mall. 0.88

00:30:18.700 I have cellular mitosis. 0.99

00:30:20.100 If you eat

00:30:21.860 There's a limit on the package

00:30:24.740 If you eat more than five you get Osmosis Jones

00:30:27.020 Oh really?

00:30:28.280 Yeah so you get like a little guy like fighting slime crime

00:30:30.560 Oh I love that

00:30:31.980 And I'm guessing that's happening at an Aussie concert

00:30:34.820 Yeah

00:30:36.140 Yeah like Youngblood doing Aussie covers

00:30:39.280 And then yeah the whole crowd

00:30:40.820 It's like Astroworld

00:30:41.920 They just start dropping like flies

00:30:44.480 That's hilarious dude

00:30:46.060 But that's a world we live in

00:30:47.760 i guess if we're really here yeah if we're not just an interference pattern on a different

00:30:53.920 plane of consciousness let's take a call um okay let's take a call from ourselves man

00:31:01.060 shopify you heard me shopify it's hands down the best place to start and grow a business these

00:31:11.920 days. If you're trying to start your own thing, you need to show them. You got to show them.

00:31:19.440 Shopify is the platform where you really own everything, your store, your community. Plus,

00:31:26.340 Shopify gets your products in front of shoppers where they are. Google, YouTube, TikTok, shop,

00:31:33.920 the shop app, even chat GPT. We use them for our merch store. They help Shopify. They do it.

00:31:41.240 Shopify made me realize, oh, I can actually do this, and once I got that feeling, I can

00:31:47.200 focus my efforts on other things. Thought about starting a business? This is your sign.

00:31:53.140 Get started at shopify.com slash theo. That's shopify.com slash theo. Y'all ever think about

00:32:01.560 how something got its start? Like Mountain Dew, for example. I always thought it just sort of

00:32:08.020 appeared one day, you know, just sitting in a cooler, just a little newborn can of beverage

00:32:14.500 glory. But nope, it's actually, it's, it's right out of Tennessee. Yes, it is real place, real

00:32:21.300 people. Two brothers working tirelessly to nail that citrus kick that we all love today.

00:32:29.120 Appalachian roots, baby. It's bold. It's loud. It's got that. I'll figure it out myself attitude.

00:32:36.560 That attitude is still in it today.

00:32:39.140 Still bold, still unmistakable, still do.

00:32:44.280 It's an American original that's been tasting great since 48.

00:32:48.860 Which feels right, man.

00:32:50.680 It just, it does.

00:32:52.140 Because this ain't just a drink.

00:32:53.940 It's a hometown story in a can.

00:32:56.160 Yes, sir, right here.

00:32:58.020 Next time you grab a do, just know it's more than just a drink.

00:33:00.740 It's an American original.

00:33:02.400 Mountain Dew, tasting great since 48.

00:33:06.000 so you've taken a break from comedy

00:33:10.520 when you moved out

00:33:11.260 I did yeah I took like

00:33:13.700 well I did some gigs

00:33:16.040 I did some shows with Fiona Colley

00:33:18.660 our friend Fiona

00:33:19.400 and Matt is her husband

00:33:22.140 yes I don't know if I've met him

00:33:24.420 but I guess I'll meet him tonight probably

00:33:25.940 at Zane's and then Dylan Carlino

00:33:28.340 do you know Dylan Carlino

00:33:29.320 yes I do know him he's in Austin

00:33:32.080 yeah he's so funny

00:33:34.060 so yeah I like kind of stopped headlining for a bit and then got back to doing like some local

00:33:40.960 stuff I got involved in the St. Louis scene and I like featured again and yeah just kind of started

00:33:46.160 over a little bit I'm running a new hour and it's been good to enjoy doing it you know when it feels

00:33:50.540 like a job you get kind of jaded and it's like I just ever wanted all I ever wanted was to riff

00:33:56.040 so it just things got complicated yeah um were you happy with like because Kill Tony was was

00:34:02.460 and is kind of like the tonight show in a way right people would call it that kind of like

00:34:06.520 the tonight show but you know a different like amalgamation of it right or like a present

00:34:13.520 semi-present day yeah you know there's also dark sorcerers that are involved with it but

00:34:18.680 it's exactly where we are in the world and it's great it's a great show did you feel like being

00:34:24.120 attached to that became too much or like how did you handle like the popularity and celebrity

00:34:28.480 because i would say you were one of the most popular guys that kind of came through that

00:34:31.420 system um did it feel like that because um even in my own life and recently like i've you know

00:34:38.180 like in the past year i've thought a lot about like ego and what does popularity or mean and

00:34:42.740 the value of it and stuff like that you know yeah well i think i started to assign some of my self

00:34:47.900 worth some of my self-worth and the opinions of others not that i i would never look at stuff

00:34:54.080 online but

00:34:55.880 I guess I got too wrapped up

00:34:58.320 in my

00:35:00.220 sense of self like the poltergeist of self

00:35:02.160 like what all of this

00:35:04.280 meant cause all I ever did was stand up

00:35:06.300 for years and years and years all I did

00:35:07.920 7 days a week and then

00:35:09.600 if it wasn't going well

00:35:11.400 then I didn't know who I was

00:35:13.080 so yeah more so than the

00:35:16.120 Kill Tony thing

00:35:16.980 it gave me a platform and it allowed me

00:35:19.940 to do all this stuff

00:35:21.260 I just tried to take

00:35:23.280 um take the good and and not think about anything else but um yeah I was just really wrapped up

00:35:30.880 in all this pressure that I was either misinterpreting or putting on myself and

00:35:37.680 I didn't like it I didn't enjoy doing it anymore yeah and and as you say like when it wasn't going

00:35:45.560 well I didn't like myself kind of yeah yeah dude I can relate to some of that man yeah I felt like

00:35:51.680 And, you know, I try to improvise so much riff, some have said, many have said, and if I wasn't able to catch my thoughts perfectly, and that opens the door for so much pressure on myself, where I was thinking of myself, maybe rightfully so, maybe not, duality, yes, laws of polarity, that I had so much potential.

00:36:15.180 And so every night I would go out

00:36:16.380 and I would try to use 100% of my potential on stage.

00:36:19.500 And when I set myself up for that,

00:36:21.120 there's no way I can possibly reach that,

00:36:23.580 which makes it fun to keep going,

00:36:25.680 makes it always exciting,

00:36:26.980 but I will never be satisfied with it.

00:36:28.900 Right, and always set you up

00:36:29.720 for a little bit of failure in a way.

00:36:31.260 Yeah, which a little bit of that is good.

00:36:33.020 It's good to strive.

00:36:34.200 And, you know, comedy is a,

00:36:35.800 well, it's a lifelong thing

00:36:37.100 if that's what you choose to do with your life.

00:36:41.400 But I came to realize,

00:36:43.160 and in probably in december that there has to be more to life than this there has to be more

00:36:51.660 than a performative affect um i have to be worth more than what i think i'm worth to my friends

00:36:58.040 just as a performer and if my whole world is wrapped up in the business of show business

00:37:02.680 then i am doomed to go spiritually bankrupt there's nothing that will ever be enough

00:37:08.820 you know so yeah i just try it was really nice you know i made a lot of friends that weren't

00:37:15.320 comedians for the first time in a long time wow um and it was just great you know people who

00:37:20.800 didn't know who i was to know that i have worth to people like not being funny like i can just go

00:37:26.480 to the movies and i can talk about movies or we can kick a soccer ball around which i never did

00:37:31.240 but i could have yeah and if we had found a soccer ball at any point in the beginning of

00:37:36.920 the year i could have kicked it around and it's and it's and that kept me going so i would wake

00:37:43.640 up every day and i would make myself a promise and it was firm and it was if i run into an

00:37:48.160 unattended soccer ball today or when i could borrow just for the time being i will kick it

00:37:53.940 back and forth with whoever's around oh yeah i know exactly who can't get back and forth with

00:38:00.220 some victim of uh who had too many of those little crackle bars or whatever and is now in a wheelchair

00:38:05.880 and the last limb he can move is just soccering back and forth with a stranger passing through.

00:38:12.400 He has to do one of those muscle tests or he has to hit his knee at the exact right time to kick it.

00:38:18.120 And he does it himself now because that's his insurance provider.

00:38:21.260 They mail you the little hammer with the little triangle, and you do it yourself at home.

00:38:25.460 Oh, yeah.

00:38:26.140 That's Moderna.

00:38:28.020 Yeah, that's Moderna or Pfizer, I think.

00:38:30.680 I mean, I just got a kit the other day to take a couple of cysts off my own body.

00:38:34.280 They'll mail you the scalpel mail and all of the stuff.

00:38:37.540 They'll mail you a picture of a nurse.

00:38:38.700 You put that up in the corner and you do it, man.

00:38:41.880 It's pretty cool.

00:38:43.100 And the picture, not to cut you off, but I think that it's one of those pictures where you look at it one way and she's beautiful.

00:38:49.260 Yeah. 0.51

00:38:49.460 And then you look at it the other way and it's a witch.

00:38:51.860 Yeah, dude.

00:38:53.420 Yeah, her name is Ramona Lisa is her name. 1.00

00:38:55.820 It's an Italian nurse. 0.99

00:38:57.300 And you can pick what ethnicity you want the nurse to be. 0.83

00:38:59.640 Oh, good.

00:39:00.180 And it comes with a chocolate, which is ironic because.

00:39:03.180 That's what got us into this position

00:39:05.260 Exactly dude

00:39:06.560 You're like okay I feel like this is cyclical

00:39:08.500 Yeah yeah

00:39:09.460 Great this is what happens when there's no free healthcare

00:39:12.080 Exactly

00:39:13.220 That's where we are right there 1.00

00:39:14.920 Two different women

00:39:16.420 And both of those were drawn by Christina Mariani as well

00:39:21.000 I want to let everybody know that

00:39:22.480 On an Etch-A-Sketch

00:39:23.900 Which is unbelievable

00:39:26.160 I've seen Christina do freehand

00:39:28.260 Which is if you've never seen someone freehand draw

00:39:30.940 I highly recommend it

00:39:32.440 Well, she's in that new musical.

00:39:35.720 It's a one-person musical.

00:39:37.480 Yeah, it's a one-woman show.

00:39:38.540 She's doing it at Edinburgh.

00:39:40.480 I've seen it.

00:39:41.380 Yeah, it's by Statesboro, yeah.

00:39:44.100 It's in the Delta, yeah. 0.80

00:39:46.000 It's the male version of Statesboro. 0.67

00:39:48.620 Sure, yeah. 0.65

00:39:49.380 It's Statesboro by way of Valdalsta.

00:39:51.500 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:39:52.380 Yeah, that's where I went to college.

00:39:54.360 I went to college at Georgia Southern.

00:39:55.660 Did you go over there?

00:39:56.800 Yes, by Savannah.

00:39:58.000 Oh, wow.

00:39:58.720 Were you jealous that you weren't at Savannah

00:40:00.760 because like just being like an like i think you're a creative and artistic guy i think one

00:40:04.600 of the most unique guys um in comedy or i think i don't know if that's the best thing to say to

00:40:09.700 somebody i think it's true but i think you just have a unique way of being alive sure which i

00:40:14.580 think is pretty cool because it's hard to figure that out in the world um but did you ever want

00:40:19.620 to be over there at uh at savannah um scad i think it was yeah you always hear about that place in

00:40:25.340 the south i went to college of charleston for a little bit and you'd always hear about scad like

00:40:29.120 the people it's scared you know yeah it was like um ground zero for guys in scarves yes summer

00:40:36.060 scarves too which is a rare oh my god you know what they say summer scarves bring winter tears

00:40:41.300 um and that's george orwell as well yes that's 1984 that's so orwellian truly a demarouge of

00:40:51.100 existential pessimism but that no i never i didn't and i'm happy that we are bringing up

00:40:58.100 the tenets of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn,

00:41:00.500 but it has been, it's been a crazy summer.

00:41:03.320 No, I wish I went to SCAD.

00:41:05.360 I didn't have artistic inclinations until I was probably 20.

00:41:09.800 That's when I started doing stand-up.

00:41:12.200 But no, I didn't know.

00:41:13.700 I was more into boozing.

00:41:15.060 So it was the only school I applied to,

00:41:17.200 and they call it States Vegas.

00:41:19.360 And it had some great bars out there.

00:41:21.780 Good bar scene.

00:41:22.500 Good bar scene.

00:41:23.340 A lot of field parties, parties in the woods, mudding.

00:41:27.900 Oh, yeah, a lot of that.

00:41:28.840 So you got into that culture. 0.51

00:41:30.300 Yeah, my mom's a horse trainer.

00:41:32.120 So I grew up in North Georgia, sort of by the foothills of Appalachia, I think.

00:41:39.120 Is that like near...

00:41:40.920 LaGrange?

00:41:42.880 No, it starts with an L or a different letter.

00:41:46.180 It's Toccoa.

00:41:47.220 That's what I'm thinking of with a T.

00:41:48.720 Beautiful little area.

00:41:50.760 It's about like Gainesville by like Forsyth County.

00:41:53.640 So like up there on 400.

00:41:55.620 I want to get up there one day.

00:41:57.240 What's one of the major outputs up there

00:41:59.960 Or like exports

00:42:01.040 I don't even know what they do up there

00:42:03.240 The commerce isn't exactly bustling

00:42:05.160 Oh it's not a busy area

00:42:06.540 Well now it's become

00:42:08.100 It has become like nicer

00:42:09.880 Sort of towards like Alpharetta

00:42:11.840 Where they had that helium there in Alpharetta

00:42:13.500 Oh where they got free helium up there

00:42:15.040 Yeah so nitrous will cost you

00:42:18.040 But helium's a handshake

00:42:19.160 And that's

00:42:20.900 And I do sell stickers that say that

00:42:24.040 And we're printing them right now

00:42:25.920 But

00:42:26.920 no, it's, I don't know, when I lived there

00:42:28.940 it was really rural, so, anyways

00:42:30.860 we got into mudding at an early age

00:42:32.600 as most kids of my generation do

00:42:34.840 oh, that's a good way to be it, and did you feel like

00:42:36.880 because you kind of have like

00:42:38.220 I don't know, you created such like a unique

00:42:40.980 you, right?

00:42:43.460 and

00:42:43.820 do you, do you ever think like

00:42:46.980 is this the real me, or is

00:42:48.960 this a me that I created, does it ever come to your mind

00:42:51.120 yet? Oh, sure, yeah

00:42:52.620 it's no judgment against you, I've just had that

00:42:54.960 happen in my own life recently, I quit like

00:42:56.600 i took a break from touring and so much of my life i didn't realize had been like attached to

00:43:01.340 well i always have somewhere to go oh i gotta get going yeah there's somewhere to be there's

00:43:05.700 somewhere i need to be there's somewhere i'm going to be seen that's coming up and then now

00:43:09.340 it's not really like that and it's okay but it's just been interesting to be like okay well say if

00:43:14.780 that we're going forever then what you know who would how would i yeah what's going on with me

00:43:20.260 you know yeah how would i because it is it's a degree of show business past a certain point

00:43:26.280 is almost not even like seeking it's like running it's like you're running you think you're running

00:43:31.940 towards something but you're running like away again from this idea that i have just coined the

00:43:36.720 poltergeist of self about the the visage of like who is casey rock who is this um interference

00:43:43.260 pattern of like where i grew up what my friends were like what i like to do and then also this

00:43:48.980 person i try to present on stage which is you know it more or less is me i'm just having i'm

00:43:55.060 just letting myself be a goofy guy. Yeah. But yeah, I mean, I have had instances of like ego

00:44:00.580 death, either chemically induced or just being in a really low period of depression where,

00:44:07.860 yeah, I look around and I go, what is all, what is all this for? You know? Um, but if I did have

00:44:14.820 any answer, it would be that the macro mirrors the micro so that in the little victories of my life,

00:44:20.380 i figure out my greater purpose like so it's easier for me now because i've gotten used to it

00:44:27.540 the first six months of this year of not running around so much it's i've been so i've been so

00:44:32.760 much happier where i i'm just a really stressed out guy you know i get i wear the world really

00:44:38.560 heavily so if i have to do anything like even just like go to a local showcase it used to drive me

00:44:45.280 nuts it ruined my whole day just the stress and knowing that it's coming it's hard to operate

00:44:49.780 yeah some people seem to be able to operate kind of freely even if there's something looming you 0.93

00:44:54.940 know yeah like me i'm already like fuck man my marriage what will my wedding day be like that 0.99

00:45:00.120 shit's gonna fucking be net it's gonna be hectic and my if my wife's there she's gonna be pissed 1.00

00:45:05.480 or whatever you know i'm saying like but that shit will weigh me down it's like on a regular 1.00

00:45:09.240 thursday afternoon dude not to mention whatever else i have to do or sometimes like yeah that's 0.94

00:45:14.740 such a cool way to say that yeah sometimes i just feel like i wear the world heavy and some people

00:45:19.600 it just seems to be like this like summer saw that you know yeah that it's nothing like it

00:45:24.980 seems to be like just like a little baby kite landed on their shoulder and they just brush it

00:45:28.260 off you know yeah yeah but like sometimes i wouldn't want to go to sleep at night because

00:45:35.740 i'd be like shit this is just leading to tomorrow and it already feels like so much i know you know

00:45:40.780 yeah not to complain i'm just i'm also okay it's just like yeah you just think about this sometimes 0.96

00:45:45.540 that shit gets heavy you know yeah well i think that um professionally and just part of our 0.53

00:45:52.480 gumption and i am not using the correct word when i say that but uh we just want you know we have 0.99

00:45:59.680 lives that are based on creation right so there were engendered to create and and i know if i

00:46:07.240 have any down period where i'm not creating or i don't have to i feel like i'm not doing enough

00:46:12.460 so yeah it would drive me batty

00:46:15.220 I'd be running in circles chasing my own tail

00:46:17.580 but it's nice to do just like regular

00:46:20.820 stuff like I'll read for a bed

00:46:23.480 and then

00:46:23.960 cause I'll get so stressed out about like nothing

00:46:26.880 yeah I'll be like man I gotta

00:46:28.000 I gotta like knock up some barista

00:46:30.540 like I gotta have a child with like a barista soon 1.00

00:46:32.640 and then I'll be like

00:46:34.480 who's a barista?

00:46:35.960 what am I gonna name the kid?

00:46:37.300 that's beautiful

00:46:38.000 and I think it's beautiful though

00:46:39.940 oh I feel like anytime I go into a coffee shop

00:46:42.280 I hope maybe I fall in love or something like that.

00:46:44.520 I am the kind of guy who I do think anytime I walk into a place could be gas station, coffee shop, you know, tire center. 0.93

00:46:55.980 Not tire center, but somewhere, a place they're going to have women. 1.00

00:46:58.660 Sure, like a Firestone. 1.00

00:46:59.840 Yeah.

00:47:00.400 Like a Firestone, but that's been in business and that has a little bit of extra loot to keep a decent-looking broad at the front.

00:47:07.020 A hostess?

00:47:08.240 Yes.

00:47:08.640 Is there anything more divine than a greeter at a Firestone Tires?

00:47:13.600 And she's standing there, and there's three tires right by her.

00:47:16.120 And I'm like, hey, baby, let's hit the road.

00:47:18.380 I got one in the trunk.

00:47:19.840 Yeah.

00:47:20.700 I got one in the chamber, honey.

00:47:23.000 My car is on cinder blocks right now.

00:47:25.620 You got three.

00:47:26.600 I got one.

00:47:27.280 Let's start a life. 0.72

00:47:28.420 Hey, honey, I put the sin in cinder.

00:47:30.700 You feel me?

00:47:31.200 Let's get out there.

00:47:32.720 I got a pair of cedar tires out back, a pair of cedar sinai's.

00:47:36.540 oh dude

00:47:37.920 that has had to

00:47:38.880 been the worst

00:47:39.460 tires

00:47:39.700 back in like

00:47:40.520 the wagon wheel

00:47:41.280 days

00:47:41.740 back when

00:47:42.840 Little House

00:47:44.060 on the Prairie

00:47:44.640 was just starting

00:47:45.500 out or whatever

00:47:46.140 yeah

00:47:46.820 which is a new

00:47:48.320 season out now

00:47:49.120 go watch it

00:47:49.840 my friend Crosby

00:47:50.560 Fitzgerald is in it

00:47:51.440 and I've been

00:47:52.980 watching it

00:47:53.520 someone caught me

00:47:54.240 watching it

00:47:54.920 yesterday on my

00:47:55.740 phone at the gym

00:47:56.600 so gonna go to

00:47:58.680 a different gym

00:47:59.340 now

00:47:59.720 yeah

00:48:00.380 they'll pull the

00:48:01.080 lunk alarm on your 1.00

00:48:01.940 ass like at a 1.00

00:48:02.640 Planet Fitness 1.00

00:48:03.280 they'll lunk alarm 0.99

00:48:04.720 you to high hell

00:48:06.080 Bring up the Lunk Alarm, because I got to make sure they're still using it, you know?

00:48:11.140 That is one of the better.

00:48:12.440 I wish all places of business had something comparable to a Lunk Alarm.

00:48:16.400 They used to just yell fatty or whatever, you know?

00:48:19.980 Yeah, they would yell something like that, you know?

00:48:22.420 Bad bones, bone structure.

00:48:24.460 Yeah, they used to yell steroid boy or whatever, but now, there we go.

00:48:28.400 They still have it?

00:48:30.020 Dude, he gets it with 20 feet of a Planet Fitness.

00:48:32.700 They're hitting the Lunk Alarm.

00:48:33.660 It's Jay Cutler from the Chicago Bears.

00:48:43.360 Oh, my dear God.

00:48:45.240 Wow.

00:48:46.000 They hit him with it.

00:48:47.640 And it's just for somebody that's being, I guess, overtly...

00:48:51.600 What?

00:48:52.180 Strong and in good shape?

00:48:53.380 Yeah.

00:48:54.100 They hit that like the doomsday clock was at one minute to midnight.

00:48:58.660 Yeah, dude.

00:48:59.580 This is some people's Y2K, dude. 0.99

00:49:02.380 Yeah. 0.82

00:49:02.800 That caused a splinter of effect that has effectively ruined Reaganomics.

00:49:07.740 Here's the crazy part is, dude.

00:49:09.820 That guy, like, now we don't even realize it.

00:49:13.000 They're getting us to think that being in shape is bad, right?

00:49:16.400 It's all this slow, let me tune the dial a little different, right?

00:49:21.500 Let me just mess with the opportunities here a little.

00:49:25.860 That's how they're doing it, man.

00:49:28.180 Yeah, it's planting bad seeds.

00:49:29.620 but cedar cyanide dude those if you got cedar cyanide wheels on a wagon yeah that was the

00:49:38.480 worst dude it was yeah it was terminal it was like having uh fleas like within your like roost yeah

00:49:45.300 yeah that's so brutal it's a fox in a chicken coop situation so they just go wild but it's built in

00:49:51.540 imagine you get fresh cedar wagon wheels and they have cyanide in them and they're like people

00:49:55.040 You're like, these are cedar cyanide.

00:49:56.660 You're like, yeah, it's the best we have right now.

00:49:58.400 It's all we have.

00:49:59.440 If you want to go take the route through the Sierra Nevadas,

00:50:04.000 you're going to have to get this before the fall comes, like the Donner party.

00:50:07.000 Yeah, yeah.

00:50:08.400 But you just had to do what you had to do for your family back then.

00:50:11.600 Families were tougher.

00:50:12.760 Well, things have just changed, man.

00:50:14.280 I mean, now you would have a Jeffrey Dahmer would have a footwear, you know.

00:50:17.300 He would have a shoe. 0.77

00:50:18.540 Yeah, well, Charles Bukowski should be sold to a rich family as a midwife.

00:50:22.520 And I've said that for, oh my God, yeah. 0.98

00:50:26.300 Look, we are becoming new slaves.

00:50:29.300 That's what I've been saying.

00:50:30.080 I've been saying that.

00:50:30.960 Oh, man.

00:50:31.660 Get the F. 0.91

00:50:33.020 You're on a chain gang.

00:50:34.160 Yeah, you're making license plates.

00:50:35.500 That is just what the prison industrial complex is.

00:50:38.260 So I am happy that there is a problem endemic

00:50:41.420 to the state of Alabama that I'm happy we could bring up. 0.70

00:50:44.000 There's a documentary called The Alabama Problem.

00:50:46.360 Is there?

00:50:47.260 Yeah, it's on HBO Max.

00:50:48.500 I haven't seen that one,

00:50:49.300 but I have seen the one about the mall

00:50:50.760 that's kind of going out of business.

00:50:51.940 Have you seen that one?

00:50:52.880 About the death of the American mall?

00:50:54.300 Yeah.

00:50:54.920 But this one is a specific mall in Alabama.

00:50:57.240 Bring that up.

00:50:58.220 This is a great documentary.

00:50:59.540 If you want to,

00:51:00.240 if it's raining or something

00:51:01.460 and you want to watch something.

00:51:02.900 I think I saw the trailer for it.

00:51:04.660 Jasper Mall.

00:51:06.920 See if it officially closed or not, man.

00:51:09.040 This was pretty cool, dude.

00:51:10.240 It's a good documentary.

00:51:12.260 It's enclosed.

00:51:14.460 Or is it closed?

00:51:16.860 Yeah.

00:51:17.520 There's not a lot there.

00:51:19.420 Rural King. 0.99

00:51:20.380 Well, that's good. 0.91

00:51:20.880 They replaced it with a rural king,

00:51:22.140 which is what they're going to do for our nuclear families, too. 0.70

00:51:25.200 Well, that's just where we're going.

00:51:26.800 It's like when this – oh, JCPenney closed its doors there.

00:51:31.480 But, yeah, that documentary is pretty good, man.

00:51:36.520 That sound, it means summer's biggest event is here.

00:51:39.500 The fashion is unmatched.

00:51:40.780 The crowd's buzzing.

00:51:41.680 The bets are down.

00:51:42.800 This isn't just a race.

00:51:44.100 It's the King's Plate, Canada's most iconic day of the track.

00:53:28.940 Have you kept in touch with a lot of the people from Austin still, or did you kind of like

00:53:33.180 take like a break from the communication there like um um no i still talked i had to go back in

00:53:39.260 may and i did my last um show at creek and cave and creek's always been really great to me so

00:53:44.640 i um i'm going back on the first of uh well i'm going back soon there's a special event i don't

00:53:50.580 want to spoil it but i'm going back um so yeah i talked to a lot of my really good friends from

00:53:55.240 mothership you know we were all door guys together so um i chat with them on the phone and yeah part

00:54:01.140 of like um changing my life and i have no qualms in saying this but i'm sober and i and that's a

00:54:06.580 part of my life and um part of that for me just means being um there for my friends so like every

00:54:12.320 day i'll like call a friend and stuff that i would do i guess when i was younger in the pre-social 0.95

00:54:17.240 media age you know so i'll call people and feel like all these kids are on their fucking phones

00:54:24.080 now yeah i think that's popular sure um but but not nobody calls anymore i agree you know what 0.79

00:54:33.600 that's a good thought sometimes i've i've certainly gotten away from texting and i'd rather to send a

00:54:38.220 voice note i think that's better at least if you can kind of get a feel what's going on and even

00:54:43.080 then like i will enjoy a call and i think honestly some people appreciate it it's like yeah and i

00:54:48.620 think you just have to establish if you want like hey that's where i'm at in my life i want to hear

00:54:52.140 my friend's voice you know like i want to know i want to have have some semblance just in what

00:54:57.020 they're saying or how their energy is as to how they're really feeling because that's what that's

00:55:01.620 what we're based on you can't pick it up through text it's pretty much impossible so no and that

00:55:07.600 that's just a little bit of the tuning of the dial it's like where we're at where the future's

00:55:11.980 taking us it feels kind of scary yeah some of that is lost yeah yeah i feel like i operated better

00:55:17.880 as a person before technology got too bonkers because I used to like to daydream even though

00:55:25.280 a lot of it had dangerous Voldemortian people in there like even though there was like a lot of

00:55:30.780 pillaging of our home in a lot of my daydreams it was still like it was a chance for my mind

00:55:37.320 to rattle on a little yeah so my mind didn't always feel like it was so attached to me I did

00:55:43.800 like the time when you had more space

00:55:45.800 just to kind of daydream

00:55:47.440 and your mind got to like

00:55:48.880 Yeah, you're right

00:55:52.020 Exhale

00:55:52.540 You know, I do that a lot when I'm driving

00:55:54.460 So you're saying you would daydream in a way

00:55:57.340 that was like the last bastion

00:56:00.220 of free speech 0.89

00:56:01.480 for a

00:56:03.780 mind of

00:56:05.480 Cut this part out 1.00

00:56:07.020 Cut this fucking part out 1.00

00:56:09.380 Yeah 1.00

00:56:11.320 I mean 0.99

00:56:14.260 My shit would be pretty lit. 0.99

00:56:16.460 Frederick Douglass would show up at some of my daydreams. 1.00

00:56:18.600 Sure.

00:56:19.240 There was always someone at the pulpit.

00:56:21.560 Yeah.

00:56:22.000 To let you know the type of energy that was there.

00:56:23.820 It was life or death.

00:56:24.640 There were trials that were going on. 0.59

00:56:26.160 It was very Salem witch-ian, you know?

00:56:28.940 Oh, sure. 0.97

00:56:29.460 It was like the Crucible.

00:56:30.640 Keep that part.

00:56:31.500 Yeah.

00:56:32.820 It was like the Crucible kind of meets McDonald's kind of.

00:56:36.680 Sure.

00:56:37.080 So if Grimace was like judge, jury, and executioner, which he often is in so many of our afterlives,

00:56:43.040 as I've come to understand it. 0.95

00:56:45.100 Grimace is like a tulpa and he's like an amalgamation, 0.91

00:56:49.720 like a transmogrification of St. Michael.

00:56:51.860 Is that what people are saying?

00:56:53.220 Yeah, he's like a figurehead for like this demigod we know as St. Michael.

00:56:58.960 And when he lets you in, it is just a big pool of creamy chili sauce.

00:57:03.240 Oh, good.

00:57:05.080 I know I've prayed to him before for new condiments.

00:57:09.280 That's him answering a prayer.

00:57:10.640 Okay, there you go, dude.

00:57:12.100 but dude this is where we're heading people don't want to look at the signs that like

00:57:18.500 there are children who go to bed and you'll wake up in the morning and they'll piss the perfect

00:57:22.740 shape of grimace into their sheets like moms are like oh that's nothing it's just 100 nights in a 0.88

00:57:27.280 row of that like yeah nobody's connecting the dots of where we're going no like that you piss

00:57:32.780 the Shroud of Turin like you pissed a perfect exact golem of things come to pass dude yeah

00:57:43.500 I know they cracked some kid open and he had 11 scenes from the Patriot with Mel Gibson inside

00:57:49.160 of him it's like Heath Ledger yeah I know it yeah well it was my understanding it was just

00:57:53.620 the Gibson scenes so there was no Heath Ledger which is like okay what is this the director's

00:57:57.260 cut so what is this and then he just screamed aim small miss small and disappeared into the ether

00:58:02.980 it's just where we are um you mentioned what do you want to say no i'm just kind of just like

00:58:11.360 coming to terms with some of that because it is it's an absolute you know and my will like my

00:58:18.900 will's greater than myself you know i have a higher purpose and some of that is grimace like

00:58:23.960 putting a kid in a wood chipper.

00:58:25.960 Yeah.

00:58:26.400 I remember when we were in school

00:58:28.340 and some kids didn't understand

00:58:29.440 how the greater than or less than signs worked 0.57

00:58:31.580 and we weren't allowed to kill those kids.

00:58:34.120 No.

00:58:34.300 And that always kind of made me upset.

00:58:37.140 I don't know.

00:58:37.760 I'm not even trying to get into some of that stuff.

00:58:40.000 Yeah, facts.

00:58:40.800 But I don't know my times tables.

00:58:42.720 Oh, yeah.

00:58:43.320 So what do we do?

00:58:45.300 Where do we go from here?

00:58:46.080 You're right, dude.

00:58:46.700 And it's weird if I'm willing to give you a pass,

00:58:48.540 but I'm not willing to give them, you know?

00:58:50.340 Sure.

00:58:50.900 Well, it's not a meritocracy, you know?

00:58:52.960 It isn't.

00:58:53.960 It was.

00:58:55.220 It was in a perfect world when Tolstoy was kicking around with Dostoyevsky. 1.00

00:59:00.000 It was, dude, when Downton Abbey was doing their shit, when that shit was popping. 1.00

00:59:04.080 Oh, yeah. 1.00

00:59:04.880 When they, oh, my God, me and my boys, we would sit down every downtown and Abbey Tuesday.

00:59:10.340 It was good, dude.

00:59:11.300 It was so good. 0.99

00:59:11.880 The first fucking season of it, so good. 1.00

00:59:14.480 God, I wanted to be a butler. 1.00

00:59:15.600 I would be a butler's son or whatever.

00:59:17.460 Yeah, just to be grandfathered into the butler trade would be such a blessing. 0.96

00:59:21.340 And the butler comes walking and he's like, Gregory's gay, you know? 0.97

00:59:25.140 And you're like, what?

00:59:26.740 He told you in confidence?

00:59:28.160 I know, dude.

00:59:29.200 Dude, just get the dishes.

00:59:31.260 Yeah.

00:59:32.460 Leave your son out of this.

00:59:34.060 That guy was so good, bro.

00:59:36.020 Yeah.

00:59:36.700 It's weird to see him like that, not sleeping, standing up in a closet.

00:59:40.300 Well, he was a stunt double in a lot of coffins.

00:59:44.760 Oh, yeah.

00:59:46.700 Oh, yeah.

00:59:47.720 And people don't give him any credit, you know?

00:59:50.180 No.

00:59:50.700 Who was his name?

00:59:51.300 That guy was a great actor.

00:59:53.280 He looks like the guy who did the Wilhelm Scream.

00:59:55.400 You know what I'm talking about? 0.70

00:59:56.480 The Wilhelm Scream.

00:59:57.060 The guy who just won the contest?

00:59:58.760 There's something called the Wilhelm Scream,

01:00:02.040 which is this scream they use in like a million different movies.

01:00:05.440 You would recognize it if you play it.

01:00:07.740 Jim Carter.

01:00:08.940 I think he's the guy who does that special, special scream

01:00:12.700 from the golden age of Hollywood.

01:00:15.220 Let's look at it. 0.70

01:00:16.120 The Wilhelm Scream.

01:00:19.180 Say it again. 0.65

01:00:20.560 Are you sure?

01:00:25.360 That sounds like Wilhelm Memphis.

01:00:27.900 Where is that from?

01:00:29.140 Yeah, that's Beale Street.

01:00:30.440 If Beale Street could talk, it would sound like that.

01:00:35.700 Wow.

01:00:37.720 So, yeah, that guy did that, and then I guess he had to go to court

01:00:40.700 to get, like, his residuals from him.

01:00:44.300 Really?

01:00:45.580 So that scream, they're calling it the scream of hope.

01:00:50.880 So it was one of the first famous scream of hope.

01:00:55.480 Are you serious?

01:00:57.680 So yeah, it's like a symbol.

01:01:00.060 How bad has it gotten?

01:01:02.640 Well, it's like, you know how South Africa used Rodriguez and his albums to fight against apartheid?

01:01:09.480 So this is the American version of that.

01:01:11.560 Yeah, I remember in Tyler Perry's Mandela Goes to Jail, I think.

01:01:14.820 exactly 0.55

01:01:16.780 so

01:01:18.240 Sheb Woolley

01:01:19.300 was the stage name

01:01:20.600 of that old

01:01:21.400 old guy

01:01:21.740 who lived in the closet

01:01:22.600 and he just did this

01:01:24.060 he did this

01:01:24.920 special scream

01:01:25.940 that became like

01:01:26.620 a message of hope

01:01:27.580 oh I love hearing this

01:01:29.420 and this says

01:01:30.180 it right here

01:01:30.660 and this says

01:01:30.980 the famous

01:01:31.400 Wilhelm scream

01:01:32.240 was originally voiced

01:01:33.040 by actor musician

01:01:33.980 Sheb Woolley

01:01:35.360 in 1951

01:01:37.360 it was recorded

01:01:37.880 for the movie

01:01:38.340 Distant Drums

01:01:39.380 for a scene

01:01:39.900 where a man is bitten

01:01:40.920 and dragged underwater

01:01:42.440 by an alligator

01:01:43.260 play it one more time

01:01:44.480 I mean, let's put it where it belongs in our heads. 1.00

01:01:49.080 Oh, he gay, bro. 1.00

01:01:52.200 That's all I'm saying, bro. 0.91

01:01:54.280 He's a friend of Dorothy.

01:01:55.720 Yeah, let's just say he's a friend of Dorothy.

01:01:59.200 That's what they used to say.

01:02:00.880 Or, yeah, he's a Toto owner.

01:02:02.820 Sure.

01:02:03.400 Yeah, people would say that.

01:02:05.100 Have you seen that guy in Austin?

01:02:07.300 He got a Toto?

01:02:08.020 Who goes on the streets and he's like, you think this guy's gay, man?

01:02:11.020 Have you seen those videos?

01:02:12.500 Oh, my God.

01:02:13.600 Uh-oh.

01:02:13.980 Pull this up.

01:02:14.680 This is worth watching, dude.

01:02:15.860 This is one of the best things that's ever happened, I think.

01:02:19.380 And it just goes to show how men are obsessed with pointing the 11th finger at each other.

01:02:32.100 Yeah.

01:02:32.760 They're making a call to the bullpen, but nobody's showing up.

01:02:35.640 Yeah.

01:02:36.440 Sure.

01:02:37.360 You know what I'm talking about, Trevin?

01:02:38.600 Yeah.

01:02:39.460 Have you ever seen Elijah Wood?

01:02:41.000 He rides around Austin on a little scooter sometimes

01:02:44.600 No, but I would believe that

01:02:46.820 I know, right?

01:02:47.860 And I hope that happens

01:02:48.960 Me too

01:02:49.520 I hope that for the rest of the world

01:02:51.560 And the rest of today

01:02:52.500 Well, here's what we should do

01:02:53.300 One day in Austin that changed everything

01:02:56.000 Okay

01:02:57.320 So this is how rumors get started here

01:03:00.280 Let's go into this

01:03:02.200 Let's click on this

01:03:02.880 This is a picture for those at home

01:03:04.200 Of Elijah Wood on a bird scooter

01:03:06.040 Oh my god, he's ripping a heater 0.99

01:03:08.760 Fuck yeah, he is 1.00

01:03:10.320 Dude, hands-free, pro-union, ripping a heater. 1.00

01:03:12.940 Bro, he saved the whole freaking world.

01:03:16.240 The day that changed everything.

01:03:17.820 He's got a thousand-yard stare that's staring into the future of American society. 0.78

01:03:22.240 He's hunting golems, dude. 0.78

01:03:24.820 Yeah, he's hunting the Nephilim. 0.99

01:03:26.380 He's the watcher. 0.93

01:03:27.400 Yeah, dude.

01:03:28.360 Oh, definitely.

01:03:29.260 He's got his ball certificates out.

01:03:33.480 Can you – what did that say?

01:03:34.980 Did it say anything else about him on that?

01:03:36.860 That's crazy.

01:03:37.920 And did you see him while you were there?

01:03:39.220 I have never seen something like this in person

01:03:41.480 It's by Evil Mopak

01:03:44.080 So this is

01:03:45.180 Yeah this is spell work right here

01:03:46.820 This is deep

01:03:47.600 A spell work I told you equals magic 0.99

01:03:50.580 I fucking told you 0.99

01:03:51.640 This is an incantation 0.99

01:03:53.880 Despite my joke ways online

01:03:56.560 I actually quite miserly with my laughs

01:03:58.160 It's just how I was paved

01:03:59.540 But when something gets me it really gets me

01:04:01.560 So on the fateful day when I saw the most quintessential 2018 Austin photo

01:04:04.840 Humanly possible pop into my Twitter timeline

01:04:07.120 I was reduced to a queev

01:04:08.580 Okay, Lovecraft.

01:04:09.700 What are all these adjectives? 0.99

01:04:11.540 This is just some fucking Overwatch addict 1.00

01:04:13.620 putting this shit together. 1.00

01:04:14.820 Can you zoom down a little? 1.00

01:04:17.120 Does this say anything else after that part?

01:04:18.880 Oh, that's it.

01:04:19.600 Oh, and you have to pay to read it.

01:04:20.960 Come on.

01:04:21.160 It said it was taken in September 2018

01:04:23.140 in Austin, Texas

01:04:24.400 while attending the Fantastic Festival.

01:04:26.980 He tried out the app-based rental scooter Lime

01:04:30.680 for the first time while holding a cigarette.

01:04:32.980 Oh, that's pretty cool.

01:04:33.780 That is so cool.

01:04:34.480 This is like pictures taken moments before tragedy.

01:04:37.640 Let's hope not.

01:04:38.580 I mean, well, actually, he's fine, so it's not.

01:04:41.580 He voided his destiny.

01:04:42.820 We're not casting anything.

01:04:44.420 That's the only thing.

01:04:45.080 I don't want to cast anything.

01:04:46.780 No.

01:04:47.780 No, no, no, no, no, no.

01:04:48.700 I don't want to do any spell work.

01:04:50.040 No, and we don't have to, and I don't do talismanic magic.

01:04:53.160 It's my understanding, neither does Elijah Woods, so.

01:04:55.540 But I saw you brought something.

01:04:56.740 I saw you had a little thing, a bag of hair or whatever.

01:04:58.320 What's that for?

01:04:59.100 Yeah, sure.

01:04:59.800 So that's spare hair.

01:05:00.980 So that's hair care.

01:05:02.760 It's part of my self-care routine.

01:05:04.200 So if anyone, while I'm talking to them, says, like, hey, a big clump of your hair just fell out.

01:05:10.180 You're ready to go?

01:05:11.480 Yeah, I'll be like, oh, thank you.

01:05:12.860 First of all, thanks for holding space for that.

01:05:16.620 Second of all, do you have any Elmer's glue?

01:05:18.940 So, yeah, it allows me to kind of, like, keep my hairline, like, how I want it.

01:05:23.580 Yeah, it looks great.

01:05:25.440 Thanks, yeah.

01:05:26.420 And I think if someone mails you their hair and you care for it.

01:05:30.360 It's everything.

01:05:31.780 I mean, that's crazy, dude.

01:05:33.180 That's what fatherhood means to me.

01:05:35.520 It's like having a son who's bald as a baby like Caillou or like Franklin the Turtle. 0.95

01:05:40.880 And then just getting a big old glob of mush and just smooch it on top of that freaking think tank. 0.86

01:05:47.800 One time we were on a cruise ship. 0.99

01:05:50.940 Not one of the ones that like sinking or has like shit floating on it or whatever that Netflix keeps advertising. 0.92

01:05:56.780 But one of the regular ones. 0.90

01:05:58.560 We were on there and we had Halloween but we didn't have any costume store.

01:06:01.760 so some guy would

01:06:03.080 sold a bunch of his 1.00

01:06:03.900 pubic hair

01:06:04.480 and people were like 1.00

01:06:05.220 gluing it on with honey

01:06:06.720 as mustaches and stuff

01:06:08.220 so everybody could be

01:06:09.480 like the husband

01:06:10.740 from

01:06:11.120 everybody could be

01:06:13.440 Sam Elliott

01:06:13.940 oh that's so cool

01:06:15.920 let's play this video

01:06:16.780 right here

01:06:17.360 other than that

01:06:19.680 how was the play

01:06:20.200 Mrs. Lincoln

01:06:31.760 Why you say that? 1.00

01:06:33.620 That nigga got this little like gay outfit on like it's Halloween and shit like what the fuck you trying to do nigga? 1.00

01:06:38.180 Alright you get out straight 1.00

01:06:39.240 I'm straight in a bitch 0.99

01:06:40.060 You think other people gonna think that? 1.00

01:06:41.320 They gonna know that

01:06:42.060 I like this truth 1.00

01:06:43.060 Nigga gains a bitch 1.00

01:06:44.820 Every time it's gay 1.00

01:06:46.820 Look at that dumb ass hat 1.00

01:06:47.740 Nigga 1.00

01:06:48.420 You get out straight 1.00

01:06:50.440 You think other people gonna think that?

01:06:53.040 You feel like he get out straight

01:06:54.120 That's a small man

01:06:55.640 Why you say that?

01:06:57.520 Because look at him

01:06:58.440 You get out straight

01:06:59.320 Come on look at him

01:07:00.420 I'm straight

01:07:00.940 You think

01:07:30.940 is that john jones who is this that's bones jones is that indiana john jones dude who the 0.93

01:07:44.240 fuck is that george jones jones that's good yeah that's uh pretty cool that was a cool outfit i'd 0.97

01:07:51.160 like to get to a place in comfortability and metaphysical wellness where i could wear a chain 0.99

01:07:58.860 around my neck with a lock on it yeah i think you could do it dude i think i could pull it off i

01:08:03.180 used to paint my nails and then i would go to rehab like a week later it happened several times

01:08:09.960 in my adult life i would paint my nails like you know twirling my hair talking on a corded phone

01:08:15.080 like paint my nails and then i'd wake up like a couple days later and i was like i need help

01:08:18.800 yeah i was like i'm being fashion forward but i am turning the clock back 0.96

01:08:24.900 oh you're a fucking just a little leap year you were yeah i'm a leap year baby i have 0.96

01:08:30.800 benjamin button's disease but i'm right in the middle between young and old so i'm normal 0.99

01:08:34.380 brutal um so sobriety so you did you uh can i ask you something about it how's it been um was

01:08:45.040 there like a a point that you got was it like drinking was it or was it just like you were

01:08:49.340 just feeling like disconnected from your own life and and congrats on uh having the wherewithal to

01:08:54.580 like try something new, like even just to be like, okay, I've been in Austin. This is what's going

01:09:00.640 on. I'm going to try something new. It's some, it's so hard to come to that conclusion for some

01:09:04.360 of us. Yeah. Well, um, I've struggled with those things since I was a kid and I would have long

01:09:12.440 stretches of sobriety. Um, when I was younger, it would be alcohol. And then, um, where I grew up in

01:09:18.380 georgia um it was i was in high school during like the purdue pharmaceuticals like that all

01:09:25.180 that stuff oh really um so a lot of my friends um got addicted to like oxycontin and stuff like that

01:09:31.460 um so yeah so like that i was exposed to um drug use like that when i was younger so um off and on

01:09:39.520 and mostly i would sometimes go back to it when i couldn't deal with pressure you know there's a lot

01:09:46.000 of excuses for things like that um but yeah it had gotten to a point where i no longer wanted

01:09:52.640 to do comedy i no longer wanted to really do anything i just felt like almost not like i had

01:10:00.100 wasted my life because i love what i do and i i really like getting to meet people and i love

01:10:04.620 making people happy but it got to be too much when coupled with um a habit that i had developed

01:10:11.600 of various drugs and alcohol and things like that.

01:10:15.800 Yeah.

01:10:16.460 Where I was like, something has to change.

01:10:18.180 Like something has to change.

01:10:19.520 Right, so you got to that point, something has to change.

01:10:21.440 Yeah, I had resigned myself to the idea of a certain death

01:10:25.180 and that did not scare me.

01:10:27.160 It would have been, I looked at it at that point

01:10:29.160 as some sort of like welcomed relief.

01:10:30.740 Like I had gone past the point of anyone being able to help me

01:10:35.040 or me being able to help myself.

01:10:36.340 And then when I did reach out

01:10:38.800 and I did seek some help for that stuff,

01:10:41.600 I realized that that's not what I wanted at all.

01:10:44.760 What I really wanted was to figure out a better way to live.

01:10:47.880 That I really just wanted to have some peace in my life

01:10:51.260 that I knew, even in the throes of it,

01:10:54.720 was not being given to me by drugs and alcohol.

01:10:57.800 It was the opposite of that.

01:10:59.100 It was making my life a thousand times worse.

01:11:02.400 And by, yeah, I've been able to cut so much guff out of my life,

01:11:06.460 so much guff and slime.

01:11:08.300 And I'm able to look around today, and I know that I don't have any – I don't live in shame about my life.

01:11:16.680 I don't do – I don't say things to things – I don't say things to people I don't mean.

01:11:21.960 I don't hurt my friend's feelings.

01:11:24.120 I can be a better partner.

01:11:25.420 I can kick a soccer ball.

01:11:27.200 I can – it's basically – it was soccer ball-based.

01:11:30.700 So I looked around, and I was like, you know what?

01:11:33.080 This house is missing.

01:11:35.700 Soccer ball.

01:11:36.420 and then I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror

01:11:38.340 and I said, you're in no condition to kick a soccer ball.

01:11:41.660 You're going to hurt somebody.

01:11:44.600 But it's just really basic things.

01:11:46.400 You know, I wanted to be involved again.

01:11:48.840 I wanted to be in the stream of life.

01:11:51.840 Yeah, dude.

01:11:52.920 It's been so beautiful.

01:11:54.080 I'm just so happy.

01:11:55.680 And I don't think it's a temporary happiness.

01:11:58.240 I think it'll be sustained if I continue to work on myself.

01:12:01.680 I know, huh?

01:12:02.620 Yeah.

01:12:03.340 Are you able to look and see?

01:12:05.040 Congrats too, man.

01:12:05.960 I know it's not like a thing that is a congrats thing, but when you think about our world to take a break from anything and make a commitment to take a break from something and do it, it's tough.

01:12:19.460 Oh, my gosh.

01:12:20.280 It's tough for any of us.

01:12:22.060 There's so many ways to get addicted to distract ourselves from us.

01:12:26.160 Absolutely.

01:12:27.280 It's a diseased thinking of I'm constantly – because, you know, I can do all kinds of things.

01:12:31.740 I would spend too much money.

01:12:33.200 I would gamble.

01:12:35.180 I would do these things that on paper seem like a lesser thing

01:12:39.420 than the usage of substances.

01:12:42.860 And they are, but it's all just a symptom of a greater,

01:12:46.680 I want to distract myself,

01:12:48.240 and I want instant thrills that are followed by continuing to chase that thing.

01:12:55.060 What team were you betting on, too?

01:12:56.560 I'll tell you when I've been on it.

01:12:58.340 I never did sports betting, and I didn't lose,

01:13:00.780 I don't think I have a gambling addiction,

01:13:02.260 but I would

01:13:03.000 I don't gamble anymore

01:13:04.700 I'll say that

01:13:05.380 I'll bet

01:13:05.880 I would do slots

01:13:06.780 oh you do slots

01:13:07.760 I'd do some spins

01:13:08.580 dude

01:13:09.180 five dollar spin 1.00

01:13:09.920 have a slap at the pokies 1.00

01:13:10.980 yes 0.95

01:13:11.560 oh

01:13:12.000 I would love

01:13:13.440 dude

01:13:13.700 sometimes I like

01:13:14.660 this time I didn't

01:13:15.440 I was just in Las Vegas

01:13:16.240 but I would

01:13:16.800 I'd like to slip down there

01:13:18.520 at night

01:13:19.000 when nobody would be around

01:13:20.460 and I'd sit there

01:13:21.060 and play some slots

01:13:21.920 just put in 20 bucks

01:13:23.080 40 bucks

01:13:23.960 you know 0.99

01:13:24.800 and just fucking 0.99

01:13:25.440 try to get a little bit 0.99

01:13:26.220 of money out of China

01:13:27.200 you know

01:13:28.640 I'd yell at the machine

01:13:29.600 I'd be like 0.99

01:13:29.900 we're gonna fucking 0.99

01:13:30.520 get your cash 0.99

01:13:31.500 We're coming, Beijing.

01:13:33.020 Yeah, we're coming, dude.

01:13:37.960 Congratulations.

01:13:39.780 Pork boy. 0.97

01:13:41.000 You've popped the pig big. 0.98

01:13:44.280 It's so funny because it will give you, and this is not a bit, heaven forbid I do a bit,

01:13:49.620 but it'll be like, congratulation, congribitibus, you've won, you've been awarded dollar.

01:13:57.140 Like you won a dollar, like a singular Judeo-Christian dollar.

01:14:00.800 And they sound it out. 0.99

01:14:02.740 It takes for, and you're like, fuck, dude, if I would have just called it in a way, even 0.99

01:14:07.400 like just fucking taking a call on a phone and ask them for $2, I would have made more 1.00

01:14:12.380 money doing something else. 1.00

01:14:14.800 You've been accepted into the winner's circle.

01:14:17.720 Press B to trust.

01:14:19.300 And then you're like, press B, and then it's $1.47.

01:14:24.440 And you're like, okay, I'm betting $5.

01:14:26.240 You just told me I lost money.

01:14:27.680 Yeah, and it's like, oh, you've won the deceased sibling round.

01:14:31.100 We're going to bring back Anna Marie.

01:14:33.960 And you're like, oh, my God.

01:14:35.620 My sister's back.

01:14:36.980 My sister's back.

01:14:38.980 But it's so funny.

01:14:39.960 But that's how it's going to get.

01:14:41.380 Don't you see where we're going?

01:14:43.260 I know. 0.94

01:14:43.800 I mean, that's going to be in our freaking textbooks one of these days. 0.53

01:14:47.360 You're going to have to go to The Wynn or Encore,

01:14:51.240 or you're going to have to go to Dragon's Beard

01:14:53.520 or whatever the casinos will be named in, you know, 0.99

01:14:56.020 or faggots realm or whatever they're called, right? 1.00

01:14:58.460 You're going to have to go to some of these places. 1.00

01:15:00.320 Sorry.

01:15:00.820 You're going to have to go to the Circus of Life.

01:15:03.340 Or Trump's Nuts or whatever the casinos are going to be called.

01:15:06.760 You're going to have to go there in the Biden's Oculus, right?

01:15:10.260 You're going to have to go there and they'll be like, you know,

01:15:13.340 get four spins and you'll see your father, you know?

01:15:16.140 And that's really what it's going to be like.

01:15:18.340 Yes.

01:15:18.780 And you have to keep playing.

01:15:20.260 You will use your social credit score to go have a round of spins

01:15:24.320 at John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns,

01:15:26.820 and you will be lucky to walk out with a talisman.

01:15:31.120 Yeah, yeah.

01:15:32.400 Or an amulet of any repute.

01:15:35.280 Yeah, dude.

01:15:36.680 It's brutal.

01:15:38.120 And I always just think it's so funny how they'll be like,

01:15:41.800 gar, gar, gar, gar, gar, you've awarded the pig some hooves,

01:15:45.780 and then they'll just, like, print you out one U.S. dollar.

01:15:49.840 Yes.

01:15:54.320 yeah dude

01:15:57.480 what do we

01:15:59.480 I mean where do we go from here

01:16:01.120 you know

01:16:01.940 what are some things that you feel like

01:16:04.880 cause like I'll go to meetings

01:16:06.500 I'm gonna go to a meeting probably whenever I get done with this today

01:16:08.880 what are some things that the meetings

01:16:11.500 do for you

01:16:12.220 do you notice something like that over time

01:16:14.240 yeah

01:16:15.760 like going to recovery meetings

01:16:17.820 there's a lot of 12 step meetings out there

01:16:19.960 sure I went this morning in Nashville

01:16:21.860 I like to

01:16:23.380 Did you go to that 7.30 meeting over there?

01:16:26.980 No, it was at a sober living in Nashville at 11.30.

01:16:32.960 But at a very base level, what I can say is that I have never, ever walked out of one feeling worse than I was walking in.

01:16:43.420 I will always, even if there's two other people in there, and I've been to plenty of things like that, newer meetings or smaller towns,

01:16:50.440 I'll always hear something

01:16:52.520 That relates to my life

01:16:54.040 Or relates to how I want to have my life be

01:16:56.060 So it's just

01:16:57.400 I like to meet random people too

01:16:58.980 It's like makes me uncomfortable

01:17:00.500 And then when I leave

01:17:02.080 I feel like I did something good

01:17:03.600 Because I know it's good for me

01:17:04.700 And I know I need it

01:17:05.780 Yeah

01:17:06.380 Yeah, yeah

01:17:07.360 It kind of cultivates a part of you

01:17:08.740 That you can't even access

01:17:09.840 Like I think for me

01:17:11.120 Like I share in meetings

01:17:12.100 I try to share

01:17:12.900 Most of the meetings that I go to

01:17:15.100 And I always wonder kind of why

01:17:18.060 It's like

01:17:19.200 and then I was like oh well when I was a kid I didn't there wasn't like a place that was safe

01:17:25.260 where I could speak up right like at our house you couldn't speak up nobody cared how you felt

01:17:30.120 there wasn't even I didn't even know I had any feelings except that I wasn't feeling good sure

01:17:34.040 and it was like nobody and that was our whole like system at home yeah and so like sometimes

01:17:39.280 when I go in there it's like well this is a place that's safe enough where I can speak up even if I

01:17:44.320 don't know exactly what I'm gonna say or how exactly I feel it gives me like a little bit

01:17:48.980 a space to explore it so it's almost like sometimes I feel like I'm it's almost like the kid me or the

01:17:53.640 younger me that's in there that's kind of like I mean it's an adult me but it kind of like um it

01:17:58.620 helps me honor a little bit of that like here's this younger me that never got to speak up so

01:18:02.780 in here today I'm going to sit here with you and we're going to you know I'm saying we're going to

01:18:06.260 speak up for ourselves yeah that that is really beautiful I can definitely um identify with some

01:18:12.980 of those um sentiments from feeling like a bit voiceless when i was younger yeah it is it's so 1.00

01:18:19.020 nice to anytime i'll try to like prepare something smart to say it'll be like you're a bumble you're 0.62

01:18:23.940 a troglodyte like i'm a mute i'm a mute deaf speechless but i'm like it's summer's summer's 0.87

01:18:29.280 hard and they're like what are you not even who are you what are you and why the big three um

01:18:36.080 dude when somebody will share something in there and that you've been wanting to say your whole

01:18:40.220 life or here yeah and you'll finally hear it or or and you're like oh i feel like a part of me

01:18:46.220 like will almost like the locks will like turn yeah and a new door will open yeah you feel like

01:18:51.720 a weight has been lit i can't even describe how it feels like really get involved in that stuff

01:18:56.240 and um it's so crazy it makes you feel like you know i'm of the belief that the universe is all

01:19:03.960 mental and it unfolds just for us you know how can it not our live experiences are designated

01:19:10.880 and interpreted solely for us and when i'm in there almost every time something will happen

01:19:16.920 that's so kismet or a synchronicity and you'll hear something you were just thinking about

01:19:21.380 or something that's upcoming you've been worried about and you're like what are the odds of that

01:19:25.720 and it happens almost every day where you're like i'm on the right path you know when you do the

01:19:30.780 right things you get the right things it might be the things you want but the things that you need

01:19:35.240 at least and the little things you hear in there man yeah the little things like uh contrary action

01:19:40.560 like a lot of times i won't want it if i don't want to do something unless it's for like a reason

01:19:45.140 where there's like safety concern or something like that then i need to consider trying to go

01:19:49.260 do it like i don't really need to do this yoga i don't really need to go and like walk over to my

01:19:54.120 neighbors and drop this off just so it's because there's a darker part of me that wants me to be

01:19:58.440 by myself that wants me to stay like isolated and sit and think and ponder about everything

01:20:03.240 and and just learning those things and eventually i have to learn things a lot right yeah i have to

01:20:09.540 learn things a lot it's like my forgetter is really big it's like it's almost like when i

01:20:14.320 wake up in the morning it's like there's a part of me that's forgotten if people care about me

01:20:18.300 that's forgotten if i care about me you know it's not exact but there's a lot of like somebody

01:20:24.100 comes in almost at night and cleans like the dry erase boards you know i need to be reminded that

01:20:28.880 i matter and at a bigger level other people matter more than me yes yeah other people

01:20:35.160 matters you know i was the i was the main actor in my life for so long and it was all how things 0.96

01:20:42.040 were affecting me and what i was doing and it's so nice to yeah just genuinely give a shit about

01:20:47.920 other people dude some of the my best moments are my moments are my favorites or if i wake up

01:20:55.260 and my thought my first thought about somebody else it's almost like god thank you or if i'm

01:21:00.500 just driving i have to remember something somebody had said yesterday like oh i'm gonna call them

01:21:03.720 and check them on them about that or something somebody cared about and i was like oh let me

01:21:07.460 see how that played out for them the more those i get like the better it feels um yeah because

01:21:12.760 we're meant we're meant to have community in my mind does the same thing it'll it's so much easier

01:21:18.100 there's a million other things i could be doing for an hour and a day than doing that but when

01:21:23.660 i'm alone if i make an excuse like that i'll make another excuse you know yes and i'll make another

01:21:29.440 excuse and it may not lead to drug use but it definitely will lead to me having a sadder life

01:21:34.020 and at the very least i don't want that yeah yeah that's that's so and it's like i just remember

01:21:40.740 people care about me i'll walk into a meeting and i'm like oh yeah yeah dude i remember and it's not

01:21:45.940 that i forgot him or anything but it's just like i have to have this thing replenished yeah that's

01:21:50.800 like yes your heart works you work you're okay things are okay there might be problems but they're

01:21:56.880 not that big and everything's going to be okay it's almost like you just like i don't know it's

01:22:01.700 like it definitely is like church some people are like do you go to church and it's like i don't go

01:22:05.040 to church every week but in a way i go to church four or five times a week yeah you know and you

01:22:10.220 feel it and you feel it yeah like i walk out of there i'm like okay if i'm like i mean there's

01:22:18.500 some days when it's rough if somebody's sitting on their phone next to me the whole meeting dude

01:22:22.080 there's a kid running around god forbid oh a little christmas kid you can tell it's like a

01:22:26.240 new year's eve baby yeah and he's like my birthday's coming up or whatever and i'm like no it's not 0.80

01:22:29.720 no it's not we're in july i can tell you're a new year's eve baby get the hell out of here

01:22:35.660 what your holiday spirit is yeah um but no man i think that community is great what do you think

01:22:42.240 if there's somebody who's scared to try to go to a first meeting you know i'll have friends that'll

01:22:45.780 ask me sometimes about like or what do you say to somebody who's thinking like maybe i might be

01:22:50.320 struggling with this you know sure um well something that i go back to is that it's just so

01:22:56.820 nice to be around people who i i you know there's a saying uh the saying of uh terminal uniqueness

01:23:05.080 that makes people continue to struggle,

01:23:07.440 that we think that we're so different in our suffering,

01:23:10.080 that we're put on this earth just to suffer.

01:23:12.360 And who am I to say if that's not the case?

01:23:14.100 But everything you've been through has meaning.

01:23:16.420 And of course it has meaning to you,

01:23:18.420 but it doesn't really have that much helpful meaning to you.

01:23:21.820 The things that you've gone through that are really bad,

01:23:24.900 ruminating on that does not help.

01:23:26.100 But when you put it out of you

01:23:27.780 and you see that it helps someone,

01:23:30.160 even just for a day,

01:23:31.600 like being around people who also hurt that way,

01:23:33.980 it's just an incredible feeling it's not a chore it's not something you have to go do

01:23:37.920 it's something i look forward to doing yeah because it's so nice to look around and go oh

01:23:42.260 my god i'm not this little freak yeah i'm not this little guy that god forgot you know i'm

01:23:46.980 someone that has purpose even if it's just for today i can have a purpose of hanging out with

01:23:52.040 these people and i know that when i'm in there i feel better just for even if it's just for that

01:23:56.180 hour even if i leave and i get back and i feel like shit again and i'm going a little crazy and 0.90

01:24:01.520 I'm riffing a little too hard about the wrong things in my little brain. 0.68

01:24:07.120 It's a safe place.

01:24:08.560 Like, and I hate to use that term, but it's, you know, places like that are just, it's

01:24:12.680 somewhere completely free of judgment.

01:24:14.120 It's so beautiful.

01:24:15.040 Yeah.

01:24:15.560 It's so beautiful.

01:24:16.220 And there's nothing else like it.

01:24:17.720 I agree.

01:24:18.160 Yeah.

01:24:18.760 Yeah.

01:24:19.080 It's crazy.

01:24:19.520 Sometimes some people are like, hey, do we come do this?

01:24:21.320 I'm like, nah, I don't know if I'm doing that.

01:24:22.740 You know, I don't know if I'm driving over to meet you at a Whataburger or something,

01:24:26.760 you know, just because they're popping off because it's new or whatever and the seats

01:24:29.860 are clean or whatever still.

01:24:30.940 Yeah.

01:24:31.260 I'm not going animal style.

01:24:32.320 You can't make me.

01:24:33.020 Yeah.

01:24:33.840 But you were like, hey, you want to drive 20 minutes across town to go to like this 1130 a.m. like meeting?

01:24:39.240 It's going to be mostly older folks in this church.

01:24:41.120 And I'm like, dude, yeah.

01:24:42.500 Yeah. 1.00

01:24:42.840 That shit sounds popping. 1.00

01:24:44.320 I dig wisdom. 1.00

01:24:45.440 Yes, dude.

01:24:46.060 Dude, I love to talk to some old farmer.

01:24:48.900 Ooh-wee.

01:24:50.100 Yeah.

01:24:50.280 I get off on talking to an old farmer. 0.99

01:24:52.220 Our plant's got AIDS. 0.99

01:24:53.740 Yeah.

01:24:53.880 You're like, I don't know if that's what happened.

01:24:56.160 He goes, when my arm's crying, I got to feed it.

01:24:59.020 when that baby's crying

01:25:01.220 I gotta feed it 0.99

01:25:02.860 and you go hell yeah 0.97

01:25:04.440 don't come on my back and tell me it's raining 1.00

01:25:07.220 you know shit like that 0.99

01:25:08.620 you're like yeah 0.99

01:25:09.200 people always have crazy quotes

01:25:11.820 but no man it's definitely like

01:25:14.920 I don't know and it's there for you

01:25:16.780 it's like if you have a tough time

01:25:18.580 if you come in or out the meetings are there

01:25:20.800 you can go back right

01:25:22.080 it's just so nice

01:25:24.940 something that really sat with me

01:25:26.900 this last go around

01:25:28.540 when I was trying to get my life together again

01:25:30.100 is just the simple thought that I don't have to live like that.

01:25:34.400 Like, whatever is making me feel like my life is,

01:25:38.440 for want of a better term,

01:25:40.220 escalating towards some terminal velocity

01:25:42.400 where I've had so many times in my life

01:25:44.100 where I feel like this is going to end bad.

01:25:46.640 Either I'm, you know, I'm working too much 0.99

01:25:49.340 or I'm worried about the wrong shit 0.99

01:25:51.020 or I'm, you know, I'm using again 0.99

01:25:53.240 and I know it's going to end bad

01:25:55.160 and to know i don't ever have to feel like that again because i know that i'm in control of my

01:26:01.560 emotions now and it's so great i like to let yourself have peace it's so hard it's like the

01:26:08.060 hardest thing in life yeah why is it hard i don't know that's such a fascinating statement i have

01:26:12.020 never said like that to let yourself have peace yeah like i don't want to let myself have peace

01:26:16.680 man it's like or i don't know if i don't think or i'm not saying i don't but it's like that would

01:26:21.640 be the like yeah i don't do i not deserve like what is that i don't know if it's something just

01:26:27.700 the way that we're wired where because that's it that's some of the wiring is right there why

01:26:32.460 wouldn't i let myself have peace i have friends that are that like and i've struggled i've had

01:26:37.480 some tough years over you know over the years for sure and uh but i've had some friends that uh

01:26:42.100 won't won't won't get close to it you know yeah well try to get close to the fire they want to

01:26:47.840 just keep keep trying to do it what's familiar it's familiar and there's a thing of like i'll

01:26:54.820 figure this out you know i'm saying like yes it like i've gotten myself this far right and the

01:27:00.860 world feels like you i don't know when i was a younger i put a chip on my shoulder like the

01:27:04.520 world was an enemy yeah and i'm gonna figure this out and watch me and then the worst part is if you

01:27:09.840 have some successes in your life or things that go kind of your way it's hard to realize that like

01:27:13.900 something you know yeah because then you feel like oh well i'm doing i'll figure this out too

01:27:17.940 yeah because i did this for myself i i uprooted myself i made this happen but then also i've made

01:27:24.700 a lot of the bad things in my life you know drinking tuss walking down the road having a

01:27:30.940 little slip and slide oh karmically speaking i'm a karmic patsy i'm a i'm a charlatan of redemption

01:27:37.100 I'm a Tess man.

01:27:38.280 Oh, dude, you're the Jack Ruby of that realm.

01:27:42.180 I am Jack Ruby and I am Nikola Tesla

01:27:45.100 and we are building a free energy circuit

01:27:47.200 that Edison will shut down.

01:27:49.180 Yeah, for sure.

01:27:51.800 Yeah, but that ego is so good.

01:27:54.640 Because, yeah, it's like no one really helped me

01:27:57.380 become a comedian.

01:27:58.940 No one taught me how to tell jokes.

01:28:01.000 No one, you know, I slept in my car for a long time.

01:28:03.260 I spent my whole life working on this thing.

01:28:05.300 So, when we're able to turn that into something that is working, of course, I think we're apt to believe, like, oh, I'll turn this around, too, by myself.

01:28:16.620 That's just, you know, we both know that's not the case.

01:28:19.260 It's just not possible.

01:28:20.400 Yeah.

01:28:21.000 It's just willpower.

01:28:22.180 It's vibrant willpower.

01:28:23.820 I'm amazed at the willpower sometimes of people that struggle.

01:28:26.460 Like, I have friends whose parents are out on the streets or have been struggling for 20, 30 years, you know.

01:28:32.840 And, uh, and I'm sure some of them, like some of them even asked me, why do you think they

01:28:38.980 said what's going, you know, it's like, I don't know, but you just try to talk with

01:28:42.540 somebody about that stuff.

01:28:43.520 And it's just the willpower of, of some, of, of alcohol or of people that are in recovery

01:28:49.580 or of alcoholism, of alcoholics.

01:28:51.540 It's man, it's strong.

01:28:53.620 It's like, I'll figure this out.

01:28:55.740 Everything.

01:28:56.260 I'll turn this around.

01:28:57.320 Or then sometimes I bet you just get, uh, you built, you just get trapped in shame and

01:29:01.880 then you just want to stay away from your life because you feel like i don't want to go around

01:29:05.140 these people because i'll only make things worse for them that's got to be kind of a crazy trap

01:29:09.180 yeah that you're too far gone and you're like radioactive yeah it's heartbreaking yeah definitely

01:29:15.780 but that people you feel like people will be better off without you which is such a dangerous

01:29:20.000 thought that is never ever ever ever true yeah yeah it's never true yeah um you've you've uh

01:29:26.360 you've talked about the occult a lot right and i feel like you've gone around the up and down

01:29:31.480 those realms you reference you low-key your closet occult people say okay occult adjacent

01:29:38.180 no i've read about all kinds of religions and stuff so sometimes i'll throw i'll throw some

01:29:43.580 buzzwords out there i do like will you do that i'll throw some buzzies i'll do a little buzz i'll

01:29:48.480 catch in a little in a little fly you're the oral hersheiser of throwing buzzwords oh yeah

01:29:52.480 Casey Orenthal, James

01:29:55.580 Enson, Marocca.

01:29:58.980 Oral

01:29:59.380 Hersheiser. Oh, yes, yes, yes.

01:30:02.080 Sorry, I think he was one of the best

01:30:03.440 pitchers before you were born. Dude, when I was a kid, like,

01:30:05.380 the best pitcher was kind of an old white dude. 1.00

01:30:07.520 It was like, okay. Randy Johnson? 0.80

01:30:09.760 Uh-huh. It was beforehand. It was like

01:30:11.280 Randy Johnson's daddy or whatever.

01:30:13.540 Candy Johnson. Yeah, bring up

01:30:15.260 Oral Hersheiser.

01:30:17.440 There he is, dude. He's a legend.

01:30:19.060 Him and Walker Bueller actually look alike, but from

01:30:21.160 Buffalo, New York, man, he's a legend, but he was a legend when I was growing up, you know,

01:30:24.960 it was just like a white guy that was able to do it. And then things got Latino and just more 0.99

01:30:32.700 diverse. But what I was going to ask you, yeah, where do you feel like we're at spiritually as

01:30:37.240 a people right now? Do you feel like we're in a tough spot? Do you see a different future for us?

01:30:42.120 Like, what do you really see having somebody who like kind of is willing to kind of massage the

01:30:47.200 crystal ball of different realms that is a interesting question and uh uh happy to be here

01:30:54.740 but it it that's that's difficult i think for me as part of uh a better life that i've tried to live

01:31:01.960 um yeah i love reading about different kinds of uh positive philosophy from antiquity so you know

01:31:09.400 stoicism marcus aurelius um up through different i've had different times in my life where i was

01:31:16.280 a more or less a believer of existential nihilism, that life had no purpose, that we were put into

01:31:23.880 this world simply from a dying God, sort of a Gnostic worldview of we don't have any purpose

01:31:31.400 because we will ultimately die, right? So in doing so, the end justifies the means in the sense of

01:31:37.440 whatever we end up doing, it does not serve any sort of greater good. But I believe the opposite

01:31:43.120 of that today. I think as human beings, and these thoughts are sort of a mishmash of various

01:31:50.760 other things, mostly the tenets of hermeticism and some sort of a cabal, cabala, not cabalic,

01:31:58.120 not like a cult, but the universe is always in motion and we're a part of the universe, right?

01:32:04.660 So I know that my life serves a greater good today. And I also know that I can be a driving

01:32:12.220 force in my life while also knowing that I can only drive so far. So all I can choose to do

01:32:19.100 is, as they say, the right-hand path of doing the right thing and the next right thing. And

01:32:24.760 if I do do something wrong to a friend, small things. The mistakes I make today are smaller.

01:32:30.240 I can be snippy. I can be rude. I can be not emotionally available. I can immediately act

01:32:36.280 to correct that, right? So it's some iteration of karma and some iteration of the understanding

01:32:41.160 that life is suffering.

01:32:44.360 You know, it hurts to know that we're alive

01:32:47.620 and to know that we're worth more than we'll be given.

01:32:53.600 But-

01:32:54.840 Dang, that's crazy.

01:32:55.560 I never heard that before.

01:32:56.560 Yeah, you know, people,

01:32:57.980 the meaning of life is just, it's the small things.

01:33:00.700 It's to mean something in a moment by moment basis

01:33:05.100 and to do things without the purpose of distraction.

01:33:08.880 so it's so much easier you know we've both struggled with drugs and alcohol to

01:33:14.300 to turn that knob off but i'm gonna have to wake up again tomorrow and that's the thing about like

01:33:21.160 developing a drug habit is like i would always be so furious when i would wake up oh my god i have

01:33:25.340 to do this again i can't believe i have to do this again but i'm of the belief that we were

01:33:30.860 all created so the universe can understand itself you know so i'm simply a a cog in a in such a

01:33:38.360 greater machine of i only exist because at the end of my timeline i served some greater purpose

01:33:45.600 you know for the creator of the universe whatever you want to call that um and who do you hope it

01:33:52.000 is like say if it is like a and i think that's beautifully put dude i really do that's pretty

01:33:55.840 cool man you're eloquent speaker you're going to be a great uh screenwriter thank you for saying

01:34:00.560 yeah it's going to be exciting man i admire the fact that you're willing to to do something that

01:34:05.840 you want to do right like i think it's easy to get trapped in like there's popularity here there's

01:34:14.240 some money here there's reward there's like ego reward here but is this really like what i really

01:34:19.820 want to do like sometimes i really want to just focus on learning spanish and be a writer right

01:34:23.940 some of those those are things that i think right that gives me self-worth right and but then you

01:34:28.460 get caught in different things and sometimes they're blessings and it's great paths and stuff

01:34:31.760 But it's like, yeah, do we reward like that, you know, do we reward that thing inside of us that also we, that was the reason maybe we started out wanting to be creative.

01:34:41.240 Like sometimes you'll get on such a path that you never get back to those things sometimes.

01:34:45.800 Yeah, it's been so nice to bring it back to comedy in any capacity, to do things just for fun, to go do an open mic at like a hot dog stand.

01:34:54.180 Yeah.

01:34:54.480 It's like I used to love stuff like that. 0.99

01:34:55.960 I used to live for shit like that. 0.98

01:34:57.620 and then when you get caught up in all the numbers 0.99

01:34:59.960 and how are the tickets

01:35:00.960 when you get caught up in all that

01:35:05.600 it

01:35:07.120 some of it gets lost

01:35:10.160 and I'm tired of losing

01:35:12.160 stuff you know

01:35:12.920 I needed to trim some of my hedges

01:35:15.340 tall poppy syndrome

01:35:16.920 I needed to cut down some of these egotistical parts of my life

01:35:20.020 that I know don't serve me

01:35:21.340 and then it's a daily thing of figuring out

01:35:24.200 you know chipping away at the block

01:35:26.280 of happiness

01:35:26.800 and trying to get

01:35:27.680 a firmer picture

01:35:29.300 of what that looks like

01:35:30.060 yeah

01:35:30.280 yeah

01:35:30.840 hard to say

01:35:31.920 I think well said

01:35:33.420 um

01:35:34.720 in the end

01:35:35.540 when we get there

01:35:36.540 do you

01:35:38.820 and it's

01:35:40.280 and we realize

01:35:41.340 oh this was just

01:35:41.960 a big masked singer

01:35:42.920 right

01:35:43.320 sure

01:35:43.940 and they take it

01:35:44.880 they take the mask off

01:35:46.180 who do you hope it is

01:35:47.460 Bill Paxton

01:35:48.200 yeah

01:35:48.940 who played for the Bulls

01:35:51.440 um

01:35:51.940 is that Bill Paxton

01:35:52.880 that's John Paxton

01:35:53.680 John Paxton

01:35:54.760 so uh

01:35:55.440 Bill Paxton, an American actor who was in Aliens and Frailty.

01:36:01.360 Just famed character actor Bill Paxton, who did have leading man potential

01:36:04.840 and was sometimes given the option to exercise that.

01:36:08.560 Died in a medical malpractice incident.

01:36:14.200 And he once told—

01:36:17.840 Yeah, he got malpractice to heaven. 1.00

01:36:20.960 Oh, that's what happened to Kanye's mom.

01:36:22.540 It was him and Kanye's mom then, maybe.

01:36:24.060 Yeah, I think they were doing like a dual surgery or something.

01:36:27.100 They were doing sutures or something.

01:36:28.380 It was a suture day.

01:36:29.200 Oh, it's probably one of those new – because I know that insurance is offering if you both get surgery on the same day with someone you don't know.

01:36:35.840 It's like –

01:36:37.120 It cancels out.

01:36:38.180 Then, yeah.

01:36:38.740 Well, it's cheaper.

01:36:40.340 Sure.

01:36:40.900 Yeah, it's half as much for twice the people, so.

01:36:43.060 Yeah, yeah.

01:36:43.960 It's a new – and they're doing that new drive-by surgery where some guy just reaches out of like a – yeah.

01:36:50.240 Ow.

01:36:50.600 but yeah

01:36:53.640 there's a lot of great offers coming from the gods above

01:36:56.060 oh yeah

01:36:57.600 sure we're simply vessels man

01:36:59.440 Bill Paxton died in February 2017 from a fatal

01:37:01.580 stroke oh man 11 days after

01:37:03.640 undergoing heart surgery his family fought a

01:37:05.580 wrongful death lawsuit accusing the surgeon

01:37:07.640 in hospital of medical malpractice

01:37:09.260 alleging the doctor used an unnecessary unconventional

01:37:11.760 technique

01:37:12.640 Cedars Sinai

01:37:15.160 full circle riff

01:37:17.500 put a bow on it

01:37:19.360 aka cedars cyanide a lot of people call it which is another and they are coming out with a yogurt

01:37:25.200 i've heard so that's good we are doing squatters rights on that riff we are here to cut the ribbon

01:37:31.480 on that riff um before you go casey uh the riffs you are you're there's you're you're a different

01:37:39.300 instrument man you're a different instrument how do you best set yourself up for the ability to

01:37:45.040 riff do you have to do a certain sequence of events before you go on like and not to put a

01:37:48.820 lot of pressure on yourself but have you noticed certain things lead to better tuning for yourself

01:37:52.980 as an instrument oh that's a good question um without giving away my entire process which i

01:38:00.180 am not even capable of replicating which really gets me in a bind when i can't even do my own act

01:38:07.120 and i'm the one who does it yikes i like to do i like to have some tent poles so i'll go out there

01:38:13.920 I'll cause a bit of a fuss

01:38:15.640 I'll cause a fuss

01:38:17.680 and I like to

01:38:19.780 I'll say this

01:38:20.540 I like to go up there and sing

01:38:22.080 because it gets me out of my head

01:38:23.120 so I learned a long time ago

01:38:24.880 the most embarrassing thing you could ever do

01:38:26.980 is try to sing genuinely

01:38:28.300 like in a circumstance that does not call for it

01:38:30.520 so I'll go up there

01:38:32.660 I'll do a little grunge number

01:38:34.260 do a little Alabama shakes

01:38:36.940 Brittany Howard

01:38:37.800 and I can feel super embarrassed

01:38:41.640 and then I go well surely nothing

01:38:43.040 for the rest of this hour will feel like how that just felt.

01:38:46.040 So that allows me to just sort of peel the mask off

01:38:50.080 and then do a big Scooby-Doo reveal of me to myself in the mirror.

01:38:54.300 And then I do a quick wink, and I will have some tent poles.

01:38:58.980 So I'll try to do three jokes that I know I'm going to tell.

01:39:02.100 So before I go up and I do my hour, I'll look at,

01:39:05.580 I'll know three jokes that I'm going to say.

01:39:07.500 Okay.

01:39:08.120 And then I'll do joke.

01:39:10.820 Joke.

01:39:11.680 Yeah.

01:39:12.600 Joke.

01:39:13.960 And then from there, hopefully I've gotten about 10 to 20 laughs at this point.

01:39:18.940 And if you extrapolate, let's say the room's 500, which is bigger than rooms that I do.

01:39:24.240 Let's say in a perfect world, I'm headlining 500 seaters.

01:39:27.120 If I get 10 laughs out of 500, I go, ooh, I only got 490 to go.

01:39:32.440 So that, I'll do a couple jokes up top, and that'll give me the confidence I need to string it all together.

01:39:40.460 Yeah.

01:39:41.200 Yeah.

01:39:41.640 But, you know, we're – but I have like 1,000 half-sentence jokes, so if I ever lose my train of thought, I'll just like hit them with – I'll just do a quick stinky.

01:39:54.680 So that's like an example of a joke.

01:39:56.740 Oh, dude.

01:39:57.480 You're like an Easter basket that has matches in it, dude.

01:40:00.100 You're like there's just something going on.

01:40:02.200 Careful with the plastic wrap.

01:40:03.620 You'll set the whole thing off.

01:40:06.900 Cadbury and Diesel.

01:40:07.980 uh it's just yeah there's something just so charming about about your presentation of yourself

01:40:15.140 thanks for saying that it's the truth thanks i hope you feel that in a in a place where we need

01:40:21.200 to feel things that are important and not but i just think like yeah i don't know i don't mean

01:40:25.800 that because i'm saying that to you but i just think yeah there's a um i don't know it's a great

01:40:32.240 thing to watch you're a great thing to watch casey rocket thanks me and my friends watched

01:40:37.420 no offense on netflix you're special oh thanks right when i started comedy and it was very

01:40:42.220 formative for me and i thought it was so funny and i'd never seen anything like it so i really

01:40:46.120 appreciate you saying that thanks man well you bet dude i'm glad that we've been able to

01:40:49.840 communicate man hope we can do it more um i think i'm gonna try to come out there tonight you should

01:40:54.840 come riff or at least come hang out you don't have to riff but come hang out it'll be so fun

01:40:58.940 It would be so fun, dude

01:41:00.220 I think I'm going to go it because I think it's probably what I need to do

01:41:02.780 Contrary action

01:41:03.580 My crowds and I'm sure your crowds too

01:41:07.840 But they'll just be so happy to see you

01:41:09.780 You'll have so much fun

01:41:10.580 It'd be great

01:41:11.500 Alright, I'm coming then

01:41:14.180 What time are your show at?

01:41:16.440 7 o'clock

01:41:17.040 I'm supposed to go to a 6.30 meeting

01:41:20.580 But maybe I can find a 6 or maybe I can go to one after

01:41:23.020 Casey Rocket, you got some tour dates coming up?

01:41:28.120 Yeah, I'm on the road.

01:41:29.860 Yeah, CaseyRocketComedy.com.

01:41:32.400 Up in Liberty Township over there, Cincinnati.

01:41:35.060 That's a good place over there.

01:41:36.320 Doing some more funny bones this year.

01:41:39.360 One thing I want to plug, I have an hour of my stand-up on my Patreon.

01:41:44.220 Okay.

01:41:44.640 It's $6, and all the money goes to harm reduction programs in Chicago.

01:41:49.140 So community outreach, clean needles, harm reduction,

01:41:52.600 all kinds of good stuff that helps people get help people get the help that they need so yeah

01:41:58.380 my patreon's on there and um if you feel like doing that just know that all that money goes

01:42:03.320 to charity so yeah that's awesome man um congrats on all the success dude thanks for talking with
