Today's episode brought to you by Liquid Death. God, kill it.
00:00:40.980
Today's guests are, you know, they're those frontline tongue ninjas, baby. You know what
00:00:45.640
I'm saying? I mean, these guys are, you know, they're the senseis of selling. They're a father
00:00:54.160
and son duo from San Marcos, Texas. They work in a business that I know nothing about,
00:01:01.180
but I'm very curious to learn. Today's guests, we are very honored to have in studio. It is Cameron
00:01:06.760
and his father, Spanky Nichols, and they are auctioneers.
00:01:16.080
Shine that light on me. I'll sit and tell you my stories. Shine on me. And I will find a song I've been singing just before.
00:01:37.080
Nashville is a cool spot, man. First time here.
00:01:51.660
No, I haven't been sober ever since. I've had a couple relapses here and there.
00:01:57.980
Yeah, it really is, dude. I'm grateful to just have each new day, you know, and just try to have a good attitude when I get up.
00:02:03.760
If I can start out decent, I usually do pretty well.
00:02:08.720
So you don't want to go have a drink with me later?
00:02:10.380
Probably not, man. I'll watch you drink, dude. Hell, I'll buy you some steroids, dude, if you want.
00:02:16.080
We used to do a good bit of, you know, one of my buddies, one night, I was doing some touring somewhere, and he's like 3 a.m.
00:02:24.360
He's like, hey, man, I'm going to get some drugs, you know? Give me some money.
00:02:27.760
And I was like, all right, you know, I'm not going out there to get them, but I'll, you know what I'm saying, I'll be a part of it.
00:02:35.420
So I give him some money, and then he comes back like two hours later, man.
00:02:43.720
I said, well, it takes two weeks to get in your system.
00:02:47.260
So even if we do them right now, we got to, you know what I'm saying, I got to get a gym membership, and then you and I got to meet back up in a couple weeks.
00:02:57.340
I'm sitting here with Cam and Spanky, and you guys are auctioneer men, right?
00:03:04.260
What is the term to reference somebody that does auction?
00:03:13.980
In World War I, all the colonels, when they got done with all the equipment, they were the ones that sold the equipment.
00:03:24.900
They had to get them to listen to them, so they gave them the title colonel.
00:03:31.280
They gave them the title colonel, so then the men had to listen.
00:03:33.240
And so at the end of like a battle or something or a war, the colonel would auction off the gear?
00:04:04.040
Like they'll tell you 5% of every graduating auctioneer class, only 5% ever pursue it and
00:04:17.020
It's not necessarily a family business, but it's more so of, with anything, it's who
00:04:27.020
I mean, and even actually in, I know in Louisiana, there's a lot of barge captains and stuff like
00:04:31.900
that, and that business, tugboat captains, and that is a familial business.
00:04:37.420
I mean, if your grandfather, you can literally get grandfathered into it.
00:04:40.940
You know, and that's, and they're always going to court over that, over trying to like adjust
00:04:50.940
My father graduated Missouri Auction School in 1974.
00:04:55.580
And he's had auto auctions my whole life, owned auto auctions my whole life.
00:05:00.360
And so, I mean, I was working the ring, which they say the ring is the floor taking bids.
00:05:10.020
I mean, I was working the ring as young as 10, 11, 12 years old.
00:05:20.980
Working the people that are attending the auction there, buying and bidding.
00:05:25.440
You're taking their bids and turning them into the auctioneer.
00:05:32.840
I mean, we've done anything from tool sales to car sales.
00:05:35.940
Mainly, my dad has owned car auto auctions my whole life.
00:05:40.880
So do you remember, like, as a ring person, were there some, like, was that kind of, was
00:05:57.160
And every time you yep, I mean, you're going up, the auctioneer's going up 100 or whatever
00:06:04.560
So what determines, and what determines how you count?
00:06:08.820
Like, how the auctioneer sets the, like, the increments?
00:06:17.200
So if you're, like, 10,000 bucks, you know, you count in two fifties or hundreds.
00:06:21.200
And if you're, like, in two or three hundred bucks, it's fifties sometimes.
00:06:28.900
And what are some of the things as you're, okay, so you get out of the ring, and you
00:06:47.080
And how many, like, is there, like, how big was your class?
00:06:55.860
I mean, that seems like a competitive, like, you're just sharpening your tongue before class.
00:07:02.920
You don't come out of auction school as an auctioneer.
00:07:05.980
You come out of auction school with the ability to practice and learn to become an auctioneer.
00:07:13.380
I will say that he, Cameron, has become the fastest auction, not just because of my son, but it comes natural to him.
00:07:22.900
He, he's, he's a lot more natural at it, really, than a lot of people I've ever seen.
00:07:29.680
And what do you, what makes him, what are some of those kind of natural abilities that make someone have an easier walk with auctioneering?
00:07:35.940
Just breathing, it just, it just came real natural to him, breathing.
00:07:42.740
And he's a real sharp guy on top of, aside from auctioneering.
00:07:47.580
And that's, memory is a lot of, of, of auctioneering.
00:07:51.620
I mean, you got to, you know, stay on track with your numbers and not, not miss numbers.
00:07:56.140
And, and, and counting that at that rapid speed, it takes, it takes a good memory.
00:08:03.380
What do you think, like, there's some of, because I, I can almost relate to you there, Spanky, when you're saying, like, I don't know, the pressure would max me out, dude.
00:08:15.980
I would need, like, I think the pressure, like, even just in the moment of the, like, you know, and keeping the tablature in my head, worried I was going to upset people.
00:08:23.920
Well, there's, there's, there's a lot going on when you're up there auctioneering and selling cars at 30, 40 seconds, every car.
00:08:30.760
I mean, you're, you're, you're, and nowadays with COVID, you know, you, you don't have a guy sitting over here talking to you necessarily, or sometimes you do.
00:08:41.220
And so you're watching the computer, you're watching the crowd, you're watching another screen for online bidders.
00:08:48.120
So you're, you're watching everything at the same time.
00:08:51.400
And you, and you, you're trying not to piss off eight or 10 people at one time and keep the whole entire crowd happy.
00:08:58.240
And I mean, there's a lot going on when you're up there.
00:09:01.720
Cam, what would you say is, is there a moment in the bidding, like in the bidding process when, what's the toughest moment for an auctioneer as the bidding really gets heightened out?
00:09:14.320
Take me on some of the journey through when you start an item.
00:09:17.440
So the car rolls in or the item or whatever you're selling.
00:09:28.100
I feel like you put a, you know, you put a beautiful little bird up next to a blender, I'll buy it.
00:09:41.920
Well, you got to be politically correct nowadays and give everybody an opportunity.
00:09:46.980
But if some man walks out there with a blender, dude, he can keep it.
00:09:51.620
Like, so, yeah, you're giving people opportunity, but you're not giving, you're not really, you know, you're not going to push my buttons, I don't think, as well.
00:09:57.800
Like, my mom, when I was growing up, my mom used to deliver these magazines called News on Wheels, and it was a magazine that had pictures of, like, women, like, semi-lewd women kind of laying on the hood of the, it was usually like a, not T-Mobile, what am I thinking of?
00:10:19.060
And so, like, a Corvette or something, you know, something that had a pack of Winstons in the dashboard.
00:10:28.120
They would always have some lady laying on the front.
00:10:30.760
And it would just be, and that would help sell the car.
00:10:43.420
We used to have, like, Hooters girls come and serve wings and stuff at our auction.
00:10:47.380
Okay, so there's a little bit of, like, catering to the men.
00:10:52.820
Okay, so take me, I'm sorry to interrupt you, Cam, so take me through some of that.
00:10:57.020
So they kind of, do they always wheel the item out?
00:10:59.600
Yeah, the car will come in, so it's like a huge barn with, like, big bay doors.
00:11:05.700
There's four to 18 lanes, depending on what auction we're working.
00:11:11.340
Now, lanes, when you say that, what does that mean?
00:11:16.200
So, like, if you were to take this garage door and open it up over here, it just goes
00:11:19.800
Auctioneer's in the middle, and you got the ring right there.
00:11:22.140
And the car will roll up, and it sits there for pretty much until we find money on it,
00:11:29.280
I'd say the toughest part is probably just finding the money, but it's also the easiest,
00:11:32.560
too, because you can just drop it really low and go.
00:11:37.560
And do you start the bidding, or the audience starts the bidding?
00:11:42.700
So, we look at our computer, or if we have a rep next to us, there'll be a reserve or
00:11:50.960
So, we usually start it around there, give or take.
00:11:53.520
And then from there, we find the money, and then we go up and get some excitement, and bids
00:11:58.400
Now, usually in that beginning moment, do you see people kind of talk to their friend?
00:12:05.860
And I didn't mean to interrupt, but they're waiting for you to drop back, back, back,
00:12:16.580
So, who are you working for, the seller or the bidders, or are you working for both?
00:12:19.900
We're working for the auction, but we really work for the seller.
00:12:22.420
In this, because we're selling his merchandise, his inventory.
00:12:26.260
Do you get a percentage of the sale of what's sold?
00:12:34.240
Now, if you were to put on the auction, like my grandpa owned the auction, of course,
00:12:43.060
But as an auctioneer, we're just independent contractors.
00:12:45.300
Man, because that makes you really wonder if you had like Bruce Buffer or something in
00:12:48.520
there from UFC or something where you had, you know, it's tough, you know?
00:12:52.700
Like, if you had somebody that had that golden throat on them, it might be-
00:13:00.880
I mean, that's what I do every day because I'm passionate about what I do.
00:13:05.160
And yes, I get paid well for doing it, but I do it for the- I mean, I do it because I
00:13:18.620
You started to kind of lower the money enough and monitor the crowd where I guess you're
00:13:25.180
After a while, you can kind of tell where things are happening.
00:13:29.120
And it's weird, you can almost read a group of people.
00:13:43.060
And now, what if people- do you notice if people are feeling too pressure?
00:13:49.400
It would be hard for me to, like, make that choice.
00:13:51.360
Do you slow down the verbiage and slow it down?
00:13:54.860
Or speed it up and then they get nervous and bid.
00:14:05.540
Have you seen somebody make a bid and you always felt bad for them?
00:14:15.300
We want to make sure everyone's happy, but, you know, I feel like if you don't piss somebody
00:14:23.140
If someone's not upset, you didn't have a good auction.
00:14:32.220
Take me through some of the auctioneer schooling and what do you do in there?
00:14:36.540
You go in there and chant every day, Betty Butter bought some butter, but she said this
00:14:42.160
I mean, just tongue twisters all day long for 10 hours a day.
00:14:50.820
Well, I've breathed my whole life, but I couldn't imagine if I had to really section it off
00:14:56.480
But what about, take me through a couple of those.
00:15:00.320
Because everybody knew that growing up like sea sails, sea sails by the seashore.
00:15:09.220
Before you speak, which is, you think that's normal, but when you're going that fast, that's
00:15:15.400
It's like teach your brain to get up to that speed, essentially.
00:15:21.340
So take me through one of them, if you remember them.
00:15:24.420
Betty Botner bought some butter, but she said this is butter bitter.
00:15:26.300
If I put it in my batter, it'll make my batter bitter.
00:15:27.860
So she bought a bit of better butter, put it in her bitter batter, made her bitter, batter
00:15:35.560
I used to be able to do it a lot faster, but I don't practice the tongue twisters anymore.
00:15:43.980
And so you take the, you get these lessons, then you go back to class, and are you doing
00:15:49.320
Yeah, we do them as a group, so everyone would stand up.
00:16:10.980
Now, is there a type, do some people put a little oil in their mouth or something before
00:16:27.960
But it clears your nasal out, you know what I mean?
00:16:38.020
When I go to work, in my bag is my microphone and about eight or ten cough drops.
00:16:51.240
I mean, I feel like the car auction, like I have friends, like I don't know if I just
00:16:54.520
have friends that have some money now or something, but I got friends sometimes.
00:16:57.060
Then like, I'll go over to their house, like, yeah, just buying a car on my phone.
00:17:04.100
Has the online business diminished you guys' business?
00:17:11.560
Luckily, though, there's enough independent owners that we work for that believe in the
00:17:18.660
old-fashioned, the touch it, feel it, smell it, come put your hands on it, cater, service,
00:17:26.520
Hooter girls, food trucks, stuff like that, that will keep the business alive.
00:17:36.800
Mom and pop sales, potentially, you know, smaller ones, but they're still pretty big.
00:17:40.600
And then you have the big corporate sales, you know, that's, I think that's the way that
00:17:46.680
And so do you guys get, is there another, what's kind of like out to pasture for an auctioneer?
00:17:52.640
Because if you're a comedian, sometimes you end up doing, you'll see a comedian end up
00:17:58.240
And we're not saying that they put them out to pasture, but that's kind of like, you know,
00:18:02.100
it's kind of the, it's the elevator down kind of from the career a little bit.
00:18:09.280
No, I mean, magicians are a comedian's arch nemesis.
00:18:13.640
Like, you know, you'll see them talk shit a lot and really hate each other as much as
00:18:18.600
But, but is there a, is there a side hustle that the skill of auctioneering kind of like
00:18:29.280
Well, in my, my deal and his deal, he, he does real estate on the side and I play with
00:18:37.180
I mean, I, if, if I have a lot of free time after these auctions too, we get done.
00:18:40.360
So we started like nine, we get done at like 1130 or noon.
00:18:47.380
We work three to four days a week and that's it.
00:18:51.240
And is there reasons that auctions take place in the morning?
00:18:55.100
Because the dealers have other things to do in the afternoons.
00:18:58.040
Now there are other auctions that take place in the afternoons and at night.
00:19:02.640
You know, there's some night auctions that cater to the, the mom
00:19:06.400
and pop car dealers, the note dealers that, that can't be there in the
00:19:09.660
morning because they're attending to their car lots.
00:19:12.500
And so they'll have a night sale and they're usually a smaller and they're
00:19:16.640
usually a more fun atmosphere, you know, they'll have, they'll have coolers
00:19:24.320
And then they, you know, they get drunk and buy shit that they, you know,
00:19:29.520
And they'll sell shit too that they, like I sold that.
00:19:36.940
It's funny when you put a little bit of liquor in there, the difference is
00:19:39.740
Even I've just been to like, you know, sometimes somebody take you to a golf
00:19:43.060
dinner or one of those things where rich people are playing golf and then
00:19:46.640
they buy, you buy, you know, Drew Brees signed football or something.
00:19:50.600
Or they got some damn Reggie Wayne, like cooking, you know, utensils or something
00:19:59.940
Sometimes it's just rich people trying to show off.
00:20:10.160
So what type of event, what type of, what do you do to prepare before an
00:20:17.260
Like, is there kind of a series of things you go through or at this point,
00:20:22.320
At this point, it's really, really natural for me and probably him too.
00:20:25.960
I mean, he's been doing it 10 years and I've been at three to six auto auctions
00:20:38.480
We don't know what the inventory is until it kind of rolls through the door.
00:20:41.360
We show up, we have a meeting and then with the auction crew and the staff and
00:20:45.820
then we check our sound system and that's pretty much it.
00:20:50.920
And then the cars roll through and everything we need is on the screen and
00:20:55.240
Now, do you get a lot of, who are the type of people that buy a lot of things?
00:20:58.940
Is it a lot of like, do you see a lot of the same type of collectors go to
00:21:03.480
Do you see, is it a lot of like celebrities and rich people?
00:21:19.700
So like I could show you video clips in my phone that were, I'm calling out people
00:21:28.380
Because we've known them for so long and we build relationships with these people
00:21:32.540
because we see them week after week after week.
00:21:40.680
And we, you know, we talk shit because we learn people's buying habits and we know
00:21:46.080
So when something comes in that we know they have to have it.
00:21:51.860
We'll, you know, we'll, we'll, we have fun with it.
00:21:56.840
So if I go to like a used car lot or any type of car lot.
00:22:03.260
Because I remember when I was growing up, my mom used to go to the police auction sometimes.
00:22:06.760
She was dating a man that ran, that owned a car wash.
00:22:10.220
And, and she would go over there sometimes, a lot of times.
00:22:15.260
And one time, I think we almost had a police car for a little while, like a used police car.
00:22:23.560
That was always a big thing, the police auction.
00:22:27.260
And I guess that was cars that had been impounded or something.
00:22:30.180
A lot of auctioneers drive those cars because they, they can go fast.
00:22:42.880
Usually big cities, you know, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, you know, there's a ton here
00:22:48.400
I'm sure there's probably five or 10, you know, in this area.
00:22:53.300
Every big city probably has a couple auto auctions.
00:22:59.880
Some shows have been added in Cincinnati, in Charlotte.
00:23:03.740
We've added over there in Durham, North Carolina.
00:23:20.420
And we also added shows, new cities, Portland, Maine, up there in the Black Bear continent.
00:23:34.760
We also added a new one in Albany and a new show in Columbus.
00:23:42.240
Make sure to get your tickets through there so the prices aren't all jacked up.

00:26:03.160
Let's get a question right here that came in for you guys.
00:26:13.480
And the question for the auctioneers I had was, what's the craziest thing that y'all have auctioned off?
00:26:22.660
Gang, Anthony, thank you, bro, for the question, man.
00:26:32.740
And how did somebody have a free when they had a gift card?
00:26:37.780
And that was just one of those items that they put up there.
00:26:47.140
Just the back story of some wife and husband sitting there bidding on a damn, I don't want anymore.
00:26:53.280
She's raising the bid, you know, and he's wondering what in the hell's going on.
00:26:57.040
She knows she's planning on maybe divorcing down the line, so she's trying to, you know, limit the inheritance.
00:27:04.540
Crazy cars, too, but mastectomy was definitely the craziest thing.
00:27:07.720
For me, I think the one time, I think me and him were working together, and I think we sold a yellow lab puppy for like $60,000.
00:27:22.040
It was a fundraiser for a medical group, and, I mean, it was crazy.
00:27:35.820
Remember that famous dog that had died in that movie, Sounder?
00:27:41.880
I think the highest priced car I've ever sold was, I wasn't actually auctioneering.
00:27:45.960
I was working the ring in Houston, Texas, and it was a Bentley for $330,000.
00:27:53.100
There was a, I worked in auction in Amelia Island, Florida, a classic car sale, and it was a car that I think Porsche and Ferrari,
00:28:02.460
one of those types of cars, they built, like, two of these cars together.
00:28:07.060
It was literally a rust bucket, $950,000 is what it sold for.
00:28:12.740
And I was working the floor, the ring, like he was.
00:28:23.860
Well, in my situation, that $330,000 Bentley was, in my mind, at dealer cost, and they were going to go sell it for $550,000.
00:28:34.040
And we're talking about this happening, somebody spending $330,000 in a matter of 25 to 45 seconds.
00:28:42.560
And so if that bidding starts out at $10,000 or something, like, how quick, like, how do you know when to differentiate between a bid you're seeing on the floor
00:28:50.600
and a bid that you are getting sent up to you from the ring?
00:29:01.280
And if the bid – let's say the bid starts at $10,000 and there's eight people down there just bidding, bidding, bidding.
00:29:07.460
You'll go from $10,000, $1,000, $2,000, $2,500, $5,000.
00:29:09.960
You'll jump it up to $2,500, $5,000, $7,500, $11, $11, $2,500, $5,000, $5,000, $7,500, $12,000.
00:29:15.640
I mean, you know, you read the crowd like that, just like you do.
00:29:25.500
Remember they had that – you know, especially where I'm from, dude, if somebody could count high, you would thought they were doing damn magic, you know?
00:29:35.760
We had people – you told them about 11, they fucking didn't know what you were talking about.
00:29:40.460
Like, after 10, they thought it had something to do with Satan, you know?
00:29:43.000
It was real, just kind of novice numerical types, you know?
00:29:47.520
What is – take me through some of that bidding.
00:29:52.140
Like, give me – show me a little bit of that magic, you know?
00:29:55.280
Yeah, like if we're bidding on something, you know?
00:29:57.740
How do you know – like, what are some bids people do?
00:30:00.420
Do people still do the thing, like they touch their face, wink?
00:30:02.640
They'll wink, and then – like, some people will turn away from you and, like, tap their leg or tap their foot.
00:30:16.400
And you're sitting up here, so you see all the games.
00:30:27.960
And, you know, there'll be people, where's the money?
00:30:42.620
And it's more so the experienced and the skilled dealers versus the younger newcomers that don't know.
00:30:52.360
Because there's always a new dealer that comes into the auction and doesn't have a clue as to what's going on.
00:31:00.280
And, you know, the first two or three months are an education or an exit.
00:31:08.880
If he doesn't get it figured out, I mean, he's going to exit the business because he owes a bunch of money.
00:31:14.540
And how much of it – I know in Texas, so many things are kind of like – is there any demographic to the business, to that whole bidding world?
00:31:29.500
And it also depends on the city you're working in, too.
00:31:32.200
Like in the Valley, obviously, lots of Latino people.
00:31:39.820
And then when I get done there, I drive to McAllen, Texas, and spend the night and work an auction there on Thursday morning.
00:31:57.320
Does it – is it part of – what kind of culture do you feel like?
00:32:07.000
Like, where does kind of auctioneering, where does some of that roots come from?
00:32:10.820
I know you talked about the colonels, you know, in the military.
00:32:13.980
And that's sort of where that – the name of that position kind of came from.
00:32:17.820
But can you tell me any more about how that – the fast talking and then separately, like, do you know – can you feel at all where that tradition kind of came out of?
00:32:27.880
You know, I mean, I know over there, like in – across the pond in England, they do it slow.
00:32:33.000
They do it really slow, like art auctions and stuff.
00:32:38.160
But I think the Latin root for auction is action.
00:32:44.380
So it's just a way to sell a lot of items really quickly.
00:32:50.800
So, like, it's really a good way to get a train ride evaluation, pretty much, of what that product's worth.
00:32:59.160
Because you've got a bunch of people there, and they're bidding on it.
00:33:04.920
But, you know, there's auctions all over the world and all over the United States.
00:33:11.000
You know, I guess because I was raised southern.
00:33:18.820
Yeah, it's interesting because I started thinking about it.
00:33:21.140
Like, I feel like there's, like, a book with Mark Twain where they talk about there's an auction or something in one of those stories.
00:33:28.600
I'm just trying to think of where I first kind of learned about auctioning or heard about it.
00:33:42.820
It is interesting to know that you could immediately kind of get an idea of a product.
00:33:52.300
Could you guess, almost like guessing somebody's weighted affair, like that guy gets used to knowing the scale and knowing the people?
00:34:08.120
But, you know, that being said, you know, paying attention to what's going on and knowing the car market and remembering what that car brought the week prior, knowing who bought it the week prior, it sets a stage.
00:34:23.920
And so we kind of – we can tell you, you know, what you're driving out there.
00:34:29.260
But if we went out there and walked around it, we could give you a really good idea of what it was worth.
00:34:42.780
Here's a fellow right here that had an inquiry.
00:34:47.680
It's your boy, Stane, here in Louisville, Kentucky.
00:34:53.020
I'm calling in to ask a question to your auctioneer, buddy.
00:34:56.620
Mr. Auctioneer, I want to know if you think you have what it takes to make it in the freestyle rap game.
00:35:03.400
I know a lot of times auctioneers, they can thank real fast, talk real fast.
00:35:08.140
I think it makes a lot of sense that you could potentially be freestyling over some instrumental.
00:35:13.520
If so, do you think you have what it takes in that game?
00:35:23.220
And I practice in the mirror and absolutely no.
00:35:32.980
You can put it over a beat, but other than that, no.
00:35:35.320
You ever dress up like that Sesame Street guy, The Count?
00:35:40.160
There was a Twister song that came out a while back.
00:35:43.860
I used to be able to basically go along with that song for like 30 seconds.
00:35:55.080
But, you know, I got to have that song playing with me.
00:36:00.700
What about the – is there like a – do people use an uppers and drugs and stuff like that to get that, you know, to stay fluid out there on the count course?
00:36:24.260
You can't go in there, you know, foggy and continue to maintain work.
00:36:34.940
What's a mistake that you can make as an auctioneer?
00:36:51.500
And once you make it, you've got to live with it and back yourself.
00:36:57.580
Once you say sold, you know, and like I said earlier, you know, you're looking into the – you're waiting for the online rep to tell you it's okay to sell it.
00:37:04.820
And you've got a guy on the floor right here, and you're watching him, and you're watching the computer, and you're going back and forth.
00:37:09.840
And the seller's kind of hesitant, and you're watching – you're waiting and waiting, and you're wanting to sell it, and you're waiting and waiting and waiting.
00:37:17.500
And then all of a sudden, the internet starts flashing.
00:37:30.420
Say it's like something starts at $30, you know?
00:37:45.300
Look, I bid on a couple of Beanie Babies before.
00:38:18.220
And so, is the sound that you're making, Spanky, is that the ring guy?
00:38:25.120
So, he's just telling him another bid has come in?
00:38:27.960
Yeah, so we just go up every time I hear him yell.
00:38:33.780
You know, you got some guy down here yelling, what the hell is he doing?
00:38:42.080
Do some men bring a woman with him who grudges him into it and that wrecks it?
00:38:56.880
You know, if I'm with a gal, I get the damn artichoke dip or something, and I wasn't planning
00:39:01.760
You know, I was just going for a couple mains and necks, and you know we're sitting there
00:39:06.720
Now we're having, you know, now it's, you know, who knows what's going on.
00:39:10.120
And so I feel you, yeah, it's interesting how that'll get a man to freaking.
00:39:22.020
Now, is there like a lot of babies out there on the lot?
00:39:24.500
Is there like a lot of like, you know, is there like.
00:39:44.860
Is there any like kind of ladies out there, any freaking wager thoughts or anything like
00:39:49.480
You know, I will say that most of the ladies that are in the industry have my utmost respect
00:39:58.440
And they, you know, they learn the business just like a man.
00:40:01.520
And they buy cars and sell cars just like the men do.
00:40:05.480
And they're very respected and they're very respectful to us.
00:40:08.700
But is there any like, are there ladies that come just to try and get onto the, or are there
00:40:13.820
men that try to come and just attach onto the ladies, not the actual bidders, but is there
00:40:21.140
And most of the ladies that are, that are there and most of the ladies that come and buy,
00:40:26.080
not, not a hundred percent, but most of them are, are married into the business and
00:40:31.660
And they're there buying cars and it's a family business and they're buying and selling,
00:40:39.160
So you don't really have these ladies that are just kind of waiting around trying to
00:40:53.100
I'm trying to think of what else I would like to learn about that culture, you know?
00:41:04.080
Out of every 10 words, how many of them are an actual word?
00:41:13.280
Like, you know, like, is there, is some of that actual words, is it?
00:41:21.700
You know, you start off with a basic chant and then it kind of translates into something
00:41:25.920
much faster and you kind of shorten it and you just kind of make it your sound.
00:41:38.740
Two grand been on, 21, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 5.
00:41:44.720
500 of the man, now 600 of the man, now 700 of the man, but I bid it now.
00:41:49.740
But it just, it speeds up over time and practice.
00:41:54.760
Mine started off as, bid him and get him and get him and bid him.
00:42:02.240
My father's chant was, bid him and get him and get him and bid him and bid him and get him.
00:42:09.860
So, I'd go over there and we'd sit in his shed and we'd have fake auctions.
00:42:33.140
And he's 80 years old and I have an eight-year-old and a three-year-old.
00:42:44.980
My mom still works at one of the auctions that I work at to this day.
00:42:50.080
And yeah, he watches my eight-year-old and three-year-old every day while I'm at work.
00:43:00.000
I feel like I'm having grandchildren like that is if your parents are into it, if the grandparents
00:43:04.320
are into it, it really gives them a whole new life as they get older.
00:43:08.800
My three-year-old and my father are best friends.
00:43:33.720
Now, it's almost interesting you had your grandfather's chant.
00:43:35.540
It's almost like a Native American type of thing where, you know, a song or a tone would
00:43:46.220
And that's, I mean, he went to school there and he started working car auctions in 1974.
00:43:53.960
I mean, we, you know, as a young kid, 10, 12 years old, I can remember traveling around
00:43:59.480
in the summers when I wasn't in school, setting up tool auctions.
00:44:06.540
I mean, China made tools that he, he would go buy in Houston and we'd go sell them in
00:44:18.180
You know, I'm a, I'm in some ways I'm a traditionalist, you know, I'm a begrudging
00:44:21.980
someone begrudgingly moving into like the modern world.
00:44:25.820
I feel like sometimes because my dad was so old when I was young.
00:44:29.420
And so I think I was just enamored with like older practices and stuff, you know, and slower
00:44:37.560
And I really, it's so nice because everybody kind of had a purpose.
00:44:42.200
There was so many more things you could find that you could actually do.
00:44:45.000
Whereas now things get, with things getting automated, it's harder to, it's just harder
00:44:49.960
to find some of those spaces, but it's good to see you guys still are.
00:44:52.880
And maybe hopefully do you feel like there could be a rebirth of like, of the business
00:44:57.600
kind of, do you feel like there's something new going on or what do you feel like?
00:45:02.640
Uh, I hope they realize, uh, uh, you know, the importance of, of what we do, you know,
00:45:11.700
I mean, the computer can count, but they, they, they can't, they can't make relationships
00:45:16.140
like we do and make people, uh, feel comfortable and warmed and welcomed.
00:45:23.540
That computer is not going to say, Hey, Billy, do you looking for this Mercedes today?
00:45:27.440
And, and Billy likes to hear his name called over that microphone.
00:45:31.380
Billy likes for the auctioneer to say hi to him.
00:45:34.420
And, uh, I, I, I hope that it continues in that direction to where they see that, that
00:45:48.840
It's like, I think we all are trying to figure out ways to, you know, to make what the skills
00:45:58.060
In a time of, you know, when electronica, you know, really.
00:46:05.040
Um, do you have to go with that being said, my, my, uh, I took my dad, my 80 year old
00:46:16.860
I said, that's a kiosk where you can go order your food and you just, you just pay for it
00:46:24.040
He said, if I worked here, I'd pour Coca-Cola thing every day, try to fry it.
00:46:30.080
They just, I just saw an article last week where they're trying to do automated through
00:46:32.800
the drive through, you know, which is kind of crazy.
00:46:37.300
Oh, I think it said like 20% gets placed or like 20% of the order.
00:46:41.460
I think I saw an article, uh, actually it's correct right now.
00:46:48.340
Um, we got another good question that came in, Sean.
00:46:58.560
Um, I saw your post about having the auctioneers there in the studio.
00:47:03.940
I do have a couple questions, um, for the lovely guests you have there.
00:47:08.800
Um, have you ever had to use your, your skills outside of the job?
00:47:18.500
Have you been buying a vehicle and it's just come in handy to have that slick speak?
00:47:35.240
At the bar, especially, you know, friends, uh, you know, you're like the original
00:47:39.780
You're like the original woodpecker, like a nightingale.
00:47:49.260
And then I'm sure a lot of the ladies, it probably leads them into wanting to kiss,
00:47:52.460
get a little French action, you know, a little tongue action.
00:47:54.820
Is that a, do people want to test drive it a little?
00:48:03.960
It's the fastest tongue in the South right there.
00:48:09.900
But damn, I bet you could put a Werther's down in a couple seconds, couldn't you?
00:48:17.120
Female cough drops only in this man's mouth, boy.
00:48:52.460
I got that nickname when I was probably in third or fourth grade because I looked just
00:49:05.860
So I was a huge fan growing up of Nickelodeon, Nick at Night, those type of television, black
00:49:19.920
So one time I got to play in this poker card tournament in Oklahoma.
00:49:30.420
And I mean, I had pictures of him on my wall growing up.
00:49:35.260
But I just, for some reason, I like his name was Theodore in the show Theodore Cleaver.
00:49:41.260
And I said, hey, you know, and I was so fired up, man.
00:49:49.500
And I said, hey, I live at, he said, I said, hey, you know, I'm a big fan.
00:49:58.480
I was like, oh, I used to live in Santa Monica.
00:50:00.260
And this is a little bit vulgar, but he goes, I used to go get some pussy in Santa Monica.
00:50:06.600
Like of all the things, I'd seen this man only as a kid.
00:50:21.040
Yeah, it's just crazy when you always want your heroes to kind of be a certain way.
00:50:24.300
And then they're just mortals, you know, or immortals.
00:50:28.700
But I look just like Spanky as a kid growing up.
00:50:32.220
I could see that a little bit, to be honest with you.
00:50:39.460
And did you know that Cam was going to be your son who was going to be able to have that ability?
00:50:45.020
Was there any other children you had that you saw that could have that possession?
00:50:50.680
I have another 18-year-old that has no interest in it at all.
00:50:57.840
He would rather tear something apart and build it back up.
00:51:01.880
But Cameron took a lot of interest in it at a very young age, you know, 14, 15.
00:51:08.340
But, you know, back then, you know, the scare of the Internet taking over wasn't there at all.
00:51:15.580
So he had a lot of interest in it, and I knew that I could help him, you know, and he would have a good career in it.
00:51:22.360
And so the day he graduated high school on a Saturday, and on the next Tuesday, he was on a flight to Missouri, going to Missouri Auction School.
00:51:40.360
You know, I was working at my grandpa's auto auction, picking up trash and doing whatever they wanted me to do, jumping cars, you know, jumpstart the battery, parking cars, whatever.
00:51:50.880
And then I think, like, probably 14 years old, he sat me down.
00:51:54.800
He said, hey, you want to start working the ring?
00:51:58.080
And so he kind of trained me up on it and threw me in the ring, and we started working, you know, every Tuesday and Thursday.
00:52:05.680
In high school, I would actually leave class early.
00:52:08.680
I'd leave at noon on Tuesdays and go to the auction.
00:52:11.540
I had a couple teachers that would let me do it.
00:52:16.040
So, I mean, at a young age, for sure, I took an interest to it.
00:52:25.120
There's really no test, but after you go to school.
00:52:27.760
And then you get a certification, essentially, and then you have to take a state test to be licensed through the state.
00:52:36.440
And, you know, is that a morning you show up and you've got to be able to really rattle?
00:52:44.340
It basically lets you have the ability to take the test.
00:52:49.280
Until 10 years ago, you didn't even have to go to school.
00:52:51.620
But now most states have required that you have 80 hours of schooling before you're eligible for the test.
00:52:58.900
Is there something, is there any, like, dark arts kind of involved out there with auctioning, like, where people are, like, putting products up there?
00:53:08.460
Like, any kind of dirty business that kind of comes through that you're able to see that you keep an eye on or anything that's happened over the years?
00:53:20.220
I've seen people break hood release and dump ice down in the dash to make it look like the air was cold.
00:53:33.520
And sell it so that, you know, when you look it through the window, it looks all good.
00:53:39.120
Dang, and you get in there, it's just a hole through it.
00:53:41.100
Yeah, there's some shady stuff going on every once in a while.
00:53:49.100
I'm trying to feel like, you know, there's dealers that will go out and, you know, unplug some stuff, you know, unhook a spark plug so where it comes in, it's running rough.
00:54:00.980
Usually whoever's the one bidding hot and heavy on it is the guy that did it.
00:54:06.560
Is there ever, like, has there ever been, like, a guy who was coming up who was, like, a great auctioneer and then something happened to him?
00:54:14.400
Like, is there any, like, good lore or anything in the auctioneer industry?
00:54:18.860
We have a good friend that, you know, was awesome auctioneer, been an awesome, awesome, awesome auctioneer for years and years and years and just couldn't get off the bottle.
00:54:40.060
I mean, just really, really good and just, I mean, just couldn't get off the bottle.
00:54:47.280
I had a friend who drowned, like, who drowned last week, actually.
00:54:50.020
He was on drugs and he tried to hide from the police and he hid underwater.
00:54:56.580
I mean, you can do it, but it's a limited time space.
00:55:16.580
I thought I was going to get away, but I didn't.
00:55:19.760
And what did you do to put your lips out of it?
00:55:21.440
Nah, me and some friends of mine, we wahooed some beer.
00:55:26.080
And this is, you know, I was probably 19, 20 years old, many, many years ago.
00:55:30.700
And so the cops show up and I go back to the apartment and I said, man, I'm just going
00:55:34.860
to get in the pool and hang out here until they leave.
00:55:36.760
And so I hung out in the pool and this is in January.
00:55:42.380
And that's a weird choice when the cops come out and see the pool when somebody's at it?
00:55:45.520
No, they never even came to the pool because they didn't even think to look in the pool
00:55:49.700
So I go walking back to my apartment thinking I'm in the clear and there I go and they're
00:56:04.280
I'm trying to think if I had some good ones with cops, man.
00:56:06.860
I had a friend whose car, something had happened to it, speaking of autos, and there was some
00:56:11.960
kind of deficiency or something under the hood.
00:56:14.040
And when they rebuilt it, they built the seats backwards, right?
00:56:18.280
So the seats, the backwards was the front of the car.
00:56:23.860
You know, cops was like, oh, you're driving backwards.
00:56:26.560
You know, it's just the way this car, they put the, you know, they, whenever they redid
00:56:33.160
And he'd always get pulled over and bust a dude, DUI, or like, they would breathalyze
00:56:39.220
You know, but people just couldn't get it in their head that a man's driving a backwards
00:56:47.820
So what's something over the years that's kind of like, is there discrepancies down there
00:56:59.520
I mean, I've seen one car dealer get mad at another one.
00:57:03.840
And the one, the, the, had a flashlight, you know, them big mag lights, you know, and then
00:57:08.960
this guy was going to beat the shit out of him with his flashlight.
00:57:12.040
Right. And the other dealer, he took the flashlight away from the guy and beat the shit out of
00:57:18.780
I've also seen another auctioneer get upset with a dealer and I didn't actually see it.
00:57:24.440
I wasn't there, but it's been a well-known story for years and years.
00:57:29.060
And, and car dealer flipped the auctioneer off and the auctioneer came off the block.
00:57:34.040
By the time he got down there, the guy had a knife and put it to his throat and said,
00:57:43.180
I mean, it used to get pretty Western, you know, back in the day.
00:57:53.540
You kind of missed that road, you know, when it was a little bit of a rockier road.
00:58:16.020
And that's where you guys are based out of, San Marcos, right?
00:58:21.740
Steve Trevino is a comedian down there in New Braunfels.
00:58:24.740
And he's a great dude, and he loves it down there.
00:58:33.060
I'll probably have to come down there and do a show at some point.
00:58:35.700
You know, sometimes I have trouble sleeping and focusing and acting right, which is everything.
00:58:41.940
So, you know, I wish there were a pocket-sized guide, you know, that little, that little hitter to help me feel well and act well and sleep well.

Sean, let's get to one more question that came in from someone.
01:01:04.240
I'm just wondering if there is, like, a need to practice this.
01:01:10.420
You know, like, quick, quick, quick, in the bed, in the bed, in the bed, quick, with the tank and off the pants.
01:01:15.500
Like, I just need to understand if it's applicable, and, like, how do you guys do it?
01:01:20.300
Yeah, when do, yeah, do women, we kind of touched on it, but, yeah, I guess women want to see the action a little bit, huh?
01:01:33.600
Is it a fast, is it, what are ways that you feel like the ability to do auctioneering correlates into other type of, like, uses in life?
01:01:47.120
Is there any, is there any times you can notice?
01:01:49.120
Yeah, it's like, it's so fast-paced, like, it slows things down, like, everything else is kind of like.
01:01:59.980
I mean, everything has got to be just, I mean, everything has got to be just absolutely perfect in my world, or I'm just in a, like, for instance, he was telling me they'd rather us be late today than be early.
01:02:13.860
And at 12.45, I'm telling him, hey, we've got to get an Uber.
01:02:18.500
And then we're in the Uber at 1.20, just leaving the hotel.
01:02:25.140
He's like, oh, if we get there in seven minutes.
01:02:29.700
I mean, everything, before I go to bed at night, everything is laid out and ready for the next day.
01:02:36.320
And, I mean, my schedule's set, and, I mean, everything's just got to be boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, perfect.
01:02:46.180
Because it's interesting that two different types of people then could both do this job, you know?
01:02:55.220
And, you know, in reality, you know, my mother is a lot of the same way.
01:03:03.460
But I think a lot of it comes with, you know, just being up there and being in control of everything.
01:03:26.480
Is there, what are, how long is the experience when you're up there on stage?
01:03:34.820
And you said it's in the morning, starts usually around nine.
01:03:46.640
You know, different lanes will shut down at different times because like one lane will have 100 cars and the next lane will have, you know, 200 cars.
01:03:54.660
But yeah, it's straight action for two hours, give or take.
01:03:58.660
And do you ever auction more than one item at the same time or no?
01:04:03.120
So, like, there'll be like on Wednesday, there's 18 of us.
01:04:06.300
And we all have our own lane and we go and we start the sale.
01:04:09.900
So, there's a lot of dealers are running from lane to lane, like coming in late, trying to bid, throwing paper, flicking us off and cursing at us.
01:04:21.700
Yeah, people are just running lane to lane trying to bid on cars.
01:04:24.940
And some lanes, there's, at some auctions, there's two lanes in one lane.
01:04:30.620
Like in the front of the barn, there'll be one lane and then in the back of the barn, there'll be another lane.
01:04:36.320
So, you'll have like, let's say, you'll have a lane five car come in the front and lane six in the back and then they both leave at the same time and then two more cars come in.
01:04:50.740
We'll go through an auction and one of those morning auctions.
01:05:14.800
Like I think on Wednesday, my lane, I think I had 120 people online.
01:05:26.800
And is there like a food truck out there or anything sometimes?
01:05:37.280
We want to keep them there until the sale's over.
01:05:51.920
I know one car dealer that sells headstones at his car lot.
01:06:07.700
Well, especially if he cuts the brake cords on his cars, dude.
01:06:17.500
Let's get into a couple more of these questions, man.
01:06:20.660
And so, you know, I was just driving through town about a month ago.
01:06:34.660
So, this is real fascinating, man, just to hear about it.
01:06:36.760
Nathiel, my question is for the father-son auctioneer duo.
01:06:49.380
So, I figure if I could talk that fast, I could probably read fast.
01:07:01.680
For me, the faster you read, the less you take in.
01:07:09.040
The faster you read or the faster you try to get through it, the less you get out of it.
01:07:19.560
If you read it too fast, you've got to go back.
01:07:23.620
If you lose your track, you're running a bid, right?
01:07:33.420
There's a screen out there that usually helps if we, you know, forget where we're at.
01:07:37.000
But, nowadays, I mean, it's just like, like you said, it's like breathing.
01:07:42.600
You know, you can do it in your sleep, pretty much.
01:07:47.260
Yeah, and think about what you're going to have for lunch.
01:07:48.480
You know, there's not a lot of action going on on the floor, you know.
01:07:51.260
And you get to thinking about something, and you're at 28,000.
01:08:02.660
And so, like, the last thing we said is usually on the screen.
01:08:08.620
Has any auctioneers ever been killed or anything like that in the line of duty?
01:08:20.460
Yeah, let's get to another question from a guest.
01:08:22.060
Probably some car dealers that want to kill some auctioneers.
01:08:27.640
Is there, like, kind of like they'll try and bait you or take you out to dinner or something?
01:08:35.600
Yeah, we see them every week, and we know their kids' names, and we're all buddies.
01:08:42.040
But when we're up there, it's straight business.
01:08:47.620
They may not like that figure, but we are doing our damnedest to get to that figure.
01:09:01.960
Got a quick question for you and your fast-talking friends.
01:09:18.760
The equipment sales, some of them are outdoors.
01:09:20.460
They'll like, the ones I've worked before, they'll be outside, but mainly they're just
01:09:27.740
And now, what about people that run in livestock?
01:09:41.800
No, we have good friends that own livestock auctions.
01:09:49.320
You know, most, there's livestock auctions all throughout the week.
01:09:53.200
But for example, a friend of mine that owns one in Gonzales, Texas, his is on Saturday,
01:10:00.380
and he works three or four sales during the week, car sales during the week, and then
01:10:14.040
You know, like, you know, somebody, you can sell a Dodge Ram and then to sell a Ram if
01:10:18.200
But I think the benefit of that, why I would like to buy something from there, I think
01:10:24.880
And not you, but you can have it mate with something else.
01:10:27.800
Like, it'd be cool if you could have a couple cars mate.
01:10:30.320
You know, you go park them somewhere in a garage for the weekend, and you come back.
01:10:36.280
I worked a livestock auction with him one time, and so they're kind of, they're up on,
01:10:46.400
And then the chute is like down around him, like a U-shaped U.
01:10:50.860
And the cattle are coming in, and I'm on the side where the cattle's coming in.
01:10:55.580
Well, this great big Brahma bull, I mean, 1,800, 2,000 pounds.
01:11:03.520
And this 70-year-old man is holding up this gate, and I'm like watching, and I'm, you
01:11:08.520
know, I'm not a cowboy in any way, shape, or form.
01:11:12.820
I'm like, man, I'm going to watch this old man die right here in front of me.
01:11:16.040
Well, that old man jumps out of the way, and out comes that bull and takes dead-ass aim
01:11:22.360
And I'm running through the arena trying to get away from him.
01:11:27.240
Yeah, and I finally got locked up in the office, and them cowboys came and got that cow.
01:11:37.280
That's the worst, when you think somebody else is about to get it, and then suddenly
01:11:45.400
Is there any good jokes you use when you're up there?
01:11:47.700
Is it kind of like that, or is it all business?
01:11:55.060
You know, for instance, I had a car dealer that we have a really good relationship with,
01:12:00.080
and, you know, I was selling a car, and it was on a red light, which is as-is, you know?
01:12:08.640
You know, and I told him, I said, come on, man, take it.
01:12:15.520
So I told him, I said, come on, man, be like your wife.
01:12:30.360
Dude, my favorite joke I ever heard, it's a little profane, but it's, what's the last
01:12:36.520
thing you want to hear when you're giving a blowjob to Willie Nelson?
01:12:49.620
We got one more that came in for you guys, man.
01:12:53.860
Have you ever been caught raising the bid on an item without any active bidders to reach
01:13:22.520
It's like what the seller wants for the vehicle.
01:13:27.900
So if it doesn't meet the reserve, it doesn't have to sell.
01:13:33.420
And so, I mean, you know, at the end of the day, our job is to get it to there, right?
01:13:38.680
So the least no-sales you have at the end of the day, the better.
01:13:42.560
So sometimes you might let it, you know, let that extra hundred slip up there, huh?
01:13:51.020
But, you know, if something, if they stop bidding or whatever, then we just explain to them,
01:13:54.720
hey, it takes X amount of dollars to get this car bought.
01:13:56.300
Yeah, a lot of times we'll just stop and tell them, hey, this is what it takes to buy it.
01:13:59.840
And if they can, you know, meet somewhere in the middle or we'll figure it out, get it
01:14:03.600
closer, put it on a call, but really we want to sell it right there.
01:14:06.780
I mean, you can't have a guy have a damn seizure in the front row and he wakes up and owns
01:14:33.980
I mean, to me, it's so much better when it's live and it's.
01:14:44.200
So, Cameron, take us into what you're doing here before we start it.
01:14:53.680
And the screen behind you is the picture of the car.
01:15:00.080
So, he's going to be representing the seller of the vehicle.
01:15:09.800
So, you went from one car and started on another one there?
01:15:32.700
Yeah, that's, yeah, that 375 was the buyer number.
01:15:37.700
So, I'm announcing the announcements right there.
01:16:05.400
And with that safety vest on, what do you have to have?
01:16:07.320
Yeah, that's a bigger corporate auction right there.
01:16:15.320
And so, they just don't want anyone to get hit.
01:16:17.140
So, if you work at the auction, if you're an auctioneer, you got to have the safety vest
01:16:20.520
on just in case you get off the block and you're walking, you know, to go to the bathroom.
01:16:45.540
And I can't really tell you until he starts the video.
01:17:11.940
See all those people right there underneath those flags?
01:17:18.700
And when I said Detroit, he's beating up on us today.
01:17:21.660
Those were two corporate buyers for big corporate car lots.
01:17:29.140
And I was telling my friend Detroit that the other buyer was beating up on us today.
01:17:36.480
And so these are the different lanes right here I'm seeing?
01:17:38.620
Like I'm sitting, like you can see my block right there where that play button is.
01:17:45.560
And then you see another auctioneer right across the other lane.
01:17:57.140
So each of you guys, so he does that car, you're doing this car, do you go back and forth?
01:18:05.720
But once you step into a lane, you can hear primarily that auctioneer.
01:18:08.840
And then behind me, there's two more other lanes going as well.
01:18:14.360
So there's a sound wall between you and that guy.
01:18:17.180
You see where that, you see where that, where it says caution?
01:18:20.240
And like right up above that is a great big wall that separates the two lanes.
01:18:29.800
That actually at that auction, that, what that caution sign is hanging on are AC ducks.
01:18:41.700
So I'm trying to think if there's anything else, man.
01:18:43.940
I really feel like I understand a little bit more about the world.
01:18:47.200
I understand that some of it's kind of a family, not a family business, but it, or a lot of other people that are in the business.
01:18:56.380
Especially in the auto, in the auto side, primarily.
01:19:02.000
All my auction buddies, like the video he just showed them, Peyton Crowe, his brother's in it, and then you got their dad, theirs in it.
01:19:11.060
And then that guy that was working the ring for me that he said, Jake Long, his dad is a state world champion auctioneer.
01:19:21.540
Now, did any of you guys ever get into the competitions, or what's that like?
01:19:29.700
I never, I have never, ever, ever had any desire to do any competitions.
01:19:36.960
It's not, it's, in my personal opinion, it's not based or judged off what we do on a daily basis.
01:19:44.500
Because you only get three cars, you only get to sell three cars, and I mean, you could get the wrong three cars, you could get the right three cars, you could not be, you know, it takes more than three cars to warm up.
01:20:03.000
I don't know which one, but it's the one that's not good.
01:20:10.560
And just so, what is it like, not even that you really, I mean, obviously you just kind of checked it out to see what it was like, but what is that, like, what is it, like, if I'm at that thing, what is it?
01:20:20.800
This is for automobiles, but they have other ones too.
01:20:22.760
They have state, and this one would be the world automobile.
01:20:28.300
Yeah, deal, and so they have that, and they have a ringman competition.
01:20:31.940
I was 18, I competed in the ringman, I think I got, like, 11th place.
01:20:36.500
Wow, and so the ringman students are competing with letting the auctioneer know?
01:20:42.480
Yeah, with the other ringman, and then there's an auctioneer competition.
01:20:47.560
They're supposed to be in Texas, and then COVID came last year, and I was actually going to compete in it because it was coming to Texas.
01:20:53.880
I think if it comes back to Texas, I'll probably compete, but other than that, I don't know.
01:21:04.180
I mean, look, a lot of those, a lot of, when you get into a competition, it's the same with stand-up comedy.
01:21:09.400
I have friends that were on Last Comic Standing that are better comedians than the friends that have won it.
01:21:16.300
It's hard to get into a competition about something like that.
01:21:19.700
Damn, I wonder, has there ever been a movie about auctioneers?
01:21:26.780
Who was the fellow that had trouble with the drinking?
01:21:34.520
I'm just thinking if it's a neat name, you make me think about a movie character.
01:21:51.700
I mean, this is the type of guy that went to jail on his wedding day.
01:22:18.520
It's about, it's not about auctions, but it's about car dealers.
01:22:24.020
You know what's funny is, he's a, one way I would definitely describe Jeremy is that
01:22:29.360
He did a really good job in that movie, for sure.
01:22:40.780
First of all, thank you guys for coming in, man.
01:22:43.880
It's really interesting to learn about your trade.
01:22:45.400
And we do a thing here where we do something for single moms, where we reach out to a single
01:22:50.100
mom and just kind of, just grant them a small financial amount to just go do something
01:22:55.980
So we have a woman, you guys have a friend of a friend, right?
01:23:01.980
And she raises her own, she has a child that she raises?
01:23:12.240
Well, look, man, I've never had my Hatchie Waxed, but I'd probably be willing to.
01:23:33.520
And we do a thing on our podcast where every now and then we reach out to a single mom
01:23:42.720
I'm sitting here with two fine gentlemen right here who are auctioneers, actually.
01:23:50.720
Um, and we just wanted to, uh, we wanted to make a, just a financial gift to you so you
01:23:58.000
could go do something fun with your kiddos this summer.
01:24:03.720
Just let you know that somebody's thinking of you.
01:24:11.080
Well, I was raised by a single mom and I know sometimes it gets a little tough and not
01:24:14.340
that it gets tough, but just, you know, we all want to know that people are thinking
01:24:17.960
of us sometimes when we don't know that, you know?
01:24:26.140
Well, my son plays baseball and my, my daughter tries to play on his team too, but we do sports.
01:24:36.920
I teach, um, we're always together, um, we try to do things on the weekend, go to my
01:24:44.020
aunts to go swimming, but, um, there's not too much we do just being me, so it's a lot
01:24:55.900
I'm sitting here with some auctioneers, so I figured I would just kind of like, I'm going
01:25:00.560
to have them just help me raise the amount of money that we give to you so you can go
01:25:04.040
So, they're professional, so I'm going to let these dudes start off the bidding, and
01:25:44.640
it's really just about we just wanted to let you know that people care about you and that um you
01:25:48.980
know it's nice to know that that's really nice to know that's hard because it's hard for me to take
01:25:55.460
compliments or anything because it's me always putting everything out there it's hard sometimes
01:26:01.580
when we got to do everything you know it's hard it's really hard i know and sometimes when i have
01:26:07.800
to be like that man i feel like and then it's hard for me to accept help from others you know
01:26:11.400
i'm just because i don't want to show that side of myself that shows that i need help you know
01:26:15.460
i really try to be independent but inside i show face but inside it's really hard yeah i don't
01:26:23.160
ask for help and i don't expect any help i try to do everything on my own but it's hard well you're
01:26:30.860
doing a good job you know i want to let you know that and uh yeah just let you know that people love
01:26:35.580
you and are thinking about you behind your back i know sometimes it's you know we don't know that
01:26:39.480
and uh and that's true for you so just wanted to let you know that and and that's it you know and
01:26:45.780
