TRIGGERnometry - Douglas Murray Was Right - Konstantin Kisin

In the wake of the violent riots which have shaken the UK in recent days, the people who predicted all of this are in the crosshairs. Let s shoot the messenger! In a book appropriately titled, "Is Reality Optional," Thomas Sowell once wrote, "People will forgive you for being wrong, but they will never forgive you, especially if events prove you right while proving them wrong." It is therefore unsurprising that, in the aftermath of the riots, those who predicted them are the ones in trouble.

00:00:00.000 Let's shoot the messenger! 0.99

00:00:05.200 In a book appropriately titled Is Reality Optional, Thomas Sowell once wrote,

00:00:11.220 People will forgive you for being wrong, but they will never forgive you for being right,

00:00:15.700 especially if events prove you right while proving them wrong.

00:00:18.960 It is therefore unsurprising that in the wake of the violent riots which have shaken Britain in recent days,

00:00:24.200 the people who predicted all of this are in the crosshairs.

00:00:27.380 Over the weekend, Alistair Campbell suggested that the police should investigate Douglas Murray

00:00:32.620 for writing and promoting the strange death of Europe.

00:00:36.240 Campbell is supposedly a mental health campaigner.

00:00:39.940 He was known for screaming at underlings during his time in Downing Street

00:00:43.220 and is currently positioning himself as the voice of Britain's moral conscience.

00:00:48.580 He was the spin doctor you'll remember who helped Tony Blair lie the country into invading Iraq,

00:00:53.860 causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

00:00:56.300 Murray's great crime, on the other hand, is writing a book which predicted with great accuracy

00:01:01.500 everything that is happening across our continent today.

00:01:04.900 And the people who ignored and dismissed him have the audacity to blame him

00:01:08.900 for what is happening instead of themselves. 0.63

00:01:11.400 As you know, I'm rarely lost for words, but the hypocrisy on display here is stunning.

00:01:17.100 Let me therefore condemn myself to a place in a cell next to Douglas Murray

00:01:20.900 by sharing with you again the preface to my book written over three years ago now.

00:01:26.100 The Guamir Mausoleum stands in the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand in modern-day Uzbekistan.

00:01:32.380 The magnificent structure, known colloquially as Tomb of the Commander,

00:01:36.380 was built to preserve the remains of Tamerlane,

00:01:39.040 a terrifying conqueror who modeled himself on Genghis Khan.

00:01:42.460 His tomb is inscribed with the words,

00:01:44.400 When I rise from the dead, the whole world shall tremble.

00:01:47.540 On the 21st of June, 1941, Soviet anthropologists led by Mikhail Gerasimov

00:01:53.260 opened the tomb on the orders of Joseph Stalin and began exhuming Tamerlane's body. 0.64

00:01:58.720 As the scent of frankincense, rose, camphor, and resin filled the air,

00:02:02.580 Gerasimov and his team discovered an additional inscription inside the casket.

00:02:07.020 Whoever disturbs my tomb will unleash an invader more terrible than I. 0.82

00:02:11.300 The following morning, Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

00:02:16.100 The history of humanity is a series of unopened tombs,

00:02:19.120 which hold not only the stories of our past, but also stark warnings about our future.

00:02:23.960 As I write this in January 2021, the West is suffering from a global pandemic.

00:02:29.040 COVID-19, a virus of the body, has brought devastation to millions of people around the world

00:02:34.140 and forced our governments into unprecedented measures

00:02:37.100 whose consequences will become apparent in the years to come.

00:02:40.160 The virus and our zealous response have ravaged the global economy,

00:02:44.120 deprived us of our civil liberties, and caused untold damage in every area of our lives.

00:02:49.160 But another devastating epidemic has spread like wildfire through the Western world,

00:02:53.460 particularly the Anglosphere, and shows no signs of abating.

00:02:57.000 Unlike COVID, this is a virus of the mind.

00:02:59.760 If you're fortunate enough to have avoided Twitter,

00:03:02.340 do not work in the progressive industry, and are not a recent graduate,

00:03:05.660 your awareness of this virus may be peripheral.

00:03:07.740 You may not yet be familiar with terms like critical race theory,

00:03:11.740 social justice, and wokeness.

00:03:13.480 I envy you.

00:03:14.340 But even so, if you're reading this book,

00:03:16.580 you've likely spotted that the world around us is changing at unprecedented speed.

00:03:20.840 You may have noticed a dramatic change in tone in our public discourse.

00:03:24.840 Nearly two-thirds of Americans now say that they fear expressing their political views,

00:03:29.600 including a majority of Democrats at 52%,

00:03:32.640 Independents at 59%, 0.99

00:03:34.760 and Republicans at 77%.

00:03:37.220 In Britain, nearly half of us feel less free to speak our minds,

00:03:41.120 while only 20% feel more free to do so than we did a few years ago.

00:03:45.280 Perhaps you've watched in confusion as men and women have been positioned not as partners,

00:03:49.380 but opponents in some kind of battle of the sexes.

00:03:52.260 It may have struck you that our conversations about race

00:03:54.780 have become a way to separate us rather than bring us together.

00:03:57.520 You may have watched in confusion as statues of historical figures

00:04:01.020 were defaced or torn down by angry mobs.

00:04:03.240 Perhaps your employer brought in someone to explain

00:04:05.980 that being white imbues you with some sort of original sin, 1.00

00:04:09.380 or that being black or brown makes you a victim of life.

00:04:12.480 You may even have been on the right side of these issues for years.

00:04:16.260 Perhaps you thought that only bigots worry about expressing their problematic beliefs, 0.89

00:04:20.440 that men are toxic and white people should atone for the terrible crimes of their ancestors 1.00

00:04:24.580 and their inherited privileges in society. 0.98

00:04:27.300 You may have spent your life supporting progressive causes,

00:04:29.980 giving money to charities for disadvantaged groups and being on the right side of history.

00:04:34.760 And yet, as J.K. Rowling discovered,

00:04:37.020 your belief in basic biology may be your undoing nonetheless.

00:04:40.500 Even if you're fortunate enough to have avoided direct contact with these issues,

00:04:44.140 you may have noticed an odd feeling.

00:04:46.360 What it is you can't explain exactly, and for now, it is relatively easy to ignore.

00:04:51.260 As you busy yourself with daily life,

00:04:53.340 you reassure yourself that things can only get better.

00:04:55.760 And yet, in those rare moments of reflection, you cannot help feeling a sense of foreboding.

00:05:01.360 It is hard to put into words how you know this,

00:05:03.860 but someone somewhere has opened another cursed tomb.

00:05:07.120 The initial phases of Operation Barbarossa,

00:05:09.720 Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union,

00:05:11.720 which began on the 22nd of June 1941,

00:05:15.120 were a huge success.

00:05:16.480 German armoured formations,

00:05:17.860 which had blitzkrieged their way through France, Belgium and the Netherlands in 1940,

00:05:21.820 were now speeding towards Moscow,

00:05:24.260 crushing disorganised Soviet resistance as they went.

00:05:27.140 My great-grandfather, who had just returned home from the winter war with Finland,

00:05:31.080 was thrown into the meat grinder of the Eastern Front,

00:05:33.880 along with millions of others,

00:05:35.400 to stop the German advance.

00:05:37.200 Like him, most of them never returned.

00:05:39.720 If you've ever travelled from Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport into the city,

00:05:43.400 you may have noticed three odd-looking metal structures along the road.

00:05:47.060 These anti-tank obstacles mark how close the enemy came to take in the city.

00:05:51.180 Across the entire front, the Soviet Union fought for its survival.

00:05:55.700 Nowhere was the war more intense than at Stalingrad.

00:05:58.920 Fierce fighting in the city went on for months,

00:06:01.380 with Stalin sacrificing more and more men and materiel in recognition of a simple fact.

00:06:06.940 Retreat was no longer an option.

00:06:09.080 As the Battle of Stalingrad hung in the balance on the 20th of December 1942,

00:06:14.500 the body of Tamerlane was returned to his tomb and given a full Islamic burial.

00:06:18.860 Within days, the Soviet Union mounted a successful counterattack at Stalingrad

00:06:23.480 and went on an offensive that would not stop until it reached Berlin,

00:06:28.280 saving the world from Nazi domination.

00:06:30.540 Today, the fate of Western civilization hangs in the balance once again.

00:06:34.580 The tomb of discord and division has been forced to open

00:06:37.300 by a small group of ideological zealots.

00:06:40.260 Retreat is no longer an option.

00:06:42.640 Either we bury the hatchet and heal,

00:06:44.840 or the whole world shall tremble once more.

00:06:46.600 If you enjoy these monologues, please note that they go out on my sub stack

00:06:50.780 weeks or sometimes even months ahead of time.
