00:00:00.000 There is a process circus going on constantly day and night with what the regulations and the
00:00:06.960 requirements are going to be. And we don't have the jobs here that were promised to the people
00:00:12.260 that came here as students. So we have done this. Canadian immigration has fallen under a lot of
00:00:24.480 scrutiny over the last year and with new legislation in place that is meant to send some
00:00:31.020 immigrants back home and deport them, as it were. We have a discussion brewing in this country that
00:00:37.860 is a little more serious than just how we're deporting people. It's really, where's the
00:00:44.520 deportation? Paul, the number is not exactly startling. 2025, it looks like we've only really
00:00:53.300 asked 23 000 people to leave yeah and that's a record year actually but but yet you know the
00:01:00.860 the minister um has self-reported that over 600 000 people are lost in the country yeah um have
00:01:09.760 overstayed their visas which you know caught my attention mike because you know it's interesting
00:01:14.260 another podcast i'm watching the other day and uh greg bovino's on it oh yeah i saw that uh tucker
00:01:20.820 had him on yeah yeah so i'm watching this now for those of you don't remember greg uh bovino was the
00:01:27.300 uh he was the border patrol agent the borders are the borders are and he he was the one who was down
00:01:34.580 in minneapolis with his uh gang of ice officers and you know that awful incident where the lady
00:01:40.500 gets shot um everything blows up and quite frankly he he was let go he was you know terminated uh
00:01:48.900 removed retired whatever it was man that guy was a different personality than i expected i listened
00:01:54.420 to that expecting to hear this rough shot guy you know ah this and that about immigrants and you know
00:01:59.860 but he wasn't that way at all actually no no he's quite thoughtful about the the issue um had a
00:02:05.860 definite differing opinion um felt that you know definitely was concerned about illegal immigration
00:02:11.860 in the united states but you know he dropped a number and i think this was the bombshell that
00:02:16.260 caught everything it was 107 million people living in the united states illegally that's a third of
00:02:22.420 the population i believe is it not yeah yeah a quarter quarter of the population population so
00:02:27.620 yeah so quarter of the population he believes is illegal now it's interesting because a lot of
00:02:31.860 people came out and refuted the number so they came out and said no it's not and you know they
00:02:37.860 were trying to make the case last i looked about 14 million people still a lot of people right
00:02:43.540 That's a huge difference between the number he gave
00:02:46.140 and the number, but somewhere in between
00:02:48.540 is the reality, right?
00:02:49.960 Is the reality number.
00:02:50.880 Now, our Canadian number, I think,
00:02:52.960 is unbelievably understated.
00:02:56.760 Well, even Mark Miller said, yeah, at the time,
00:02:59.980 600,000 people.
00:03:01.140 I don't mean to chuckle about this,
00:03:02.480 but it's so wild to me that we have such a low handle
00:03:06.840 on who's in this country.
00:03:09.100 But he even said, like, it's hard to tell, 600,000,
00:03:11.760 but to be honest with you, it could be more.
00:03:13.540 Well, the interesting thing is, which is crazy, Mike, I took a look at how many permits, visa permits were expiring up until the middle of this year.
00:03:24.020 Right.
00:03:24.500 So starting 2024 to the middle of this year, 4.9 million expiry of visas.
00:03:32.760 Wow. 4.9.
00:03:34.980 4.9.
00:03:36.040 So 5 million visas have expired just in the last year.
00:03:40.620 which is interesting because if you kind of take our 40 million people roughly and you take 5 million
00:03:46.540 you're kind of along the lines of where almost bovino is in his now you know they're saying
00:03:53.120 people have reapplied they've re-upped they've got extended work permits so he's saying all
00:03:58.000 those were issued so yeah apparently there's system back pending claims and system backlogs
00:04:03.000 and due process right uh and and you've probably seen there's a huge push for citizenship now to
00:04:09.280 get people through the system get people processed and even we did an episode earlier uh this week
00:04:15.760 uh liam and i and you'll find it behind the paywall if you're a member and it's about how
00:04:20.700 the court system is actually bending into immigration to make sure that criminals don't
00:04:26.040 get sentences too long to affect their immigration yes well they all they almost yeah exactly they
00:04:32.420 don't give them sentences but then they use the so they commit a criminal offense so they can
00:04:37.880 actually use the system to overstay or continue to stay in the country under that protection yeah
00:04:45.060 because they're about to go to court and they're actually incarcerated here under canadian law for
00:04:50.020 a period of time exactly yeah so which which makes no sense at all quite frankly because
00:04:54.360 so we let them out they have no job now they've got a criminal record here in canada but please
00:04:59.760 stay well friends of mine tell me stories about how they get actually job applicants show up
00:05:04.820 at their businesses and they uh admit that they have actually committed a crime and they're on
00:05:10.940 the program and if they get a job while actually waiting to go to court it'll give them a better
00:05:16.000 chance of staying in the country okay so now you've been charged of a crime yeah you're gonna
00:05:20.360 go try and get a job yeah okay yeah uh that doesn't add up so that's that's where these
00:05:25.820 gaps are occurring right exactly so a lot of it yeah i think a lot of this number paul you raise
00:05:30.320 a good point i think a lot and i took a look at some of the uh because you know we go down the
00:05:35.180 rabbit hole a little bit on these right we get the the team to look at stuff and then you look
00:05:38.900 at the numbers and think okay 23 000 people a year were removed against a possible half million
00:05:45.440 people without status here in the country yeah so i do see the nest the necessity for us to really
00:05:51.460 push the status machine yeah but to what degree i mean obviously there is not a system in place
00:05:59.520 that is handling immigration to this degree or we wouldn't have so many people on uh you know
00:06:04.560 untagged in the country on their way through to become citizens which is what they're here to do
00:06:09.280 yes you know the other thing uh if i make if if just on that note the process changes so much
00:06:18.560 that i think that's part of the problem and we've had many experts on here yeah and we have even
00:06:23.760 people in our midst paul that are aiming at one thing to get a pr going and get their citizenship
00:06:29.840 on track and within a couple of weeks the rules have changed right and the process that they're
00:06:34.720 going through now has to include something else or is in a different direction yeah they've applied
00:06:41.120 for the wrong uh permit and quite frankly they're going to be and so they have to apply for another
00:06:47.520 permit to extend their stay never believing they're going to actually get into the so let's
00:06:52.720 back up the other thing you never get that feeling from them yeah i'm going to be able to stay no no
00:06:57.040 we've so we've done shows with the our uh immigration consultants the the phil and villain
00:07:04.080 near near and we've done great shows with them where they've just come out and said it listen
00:07:08.960 people in this category which makes up you know millions of people are never going to get
00:07:14.880 citizenship they just said it they've said you're sitting in this status quite frankly
00:07:20.000 unless there's a huge turn of events which you know let's be serious the fact that we have a
00:07:26.000 tariff issue the fact that we're not getting a deal with the us the fact that you know the economy
00:07:30.400 is going like it's going it doesn't bode well if two months ago they're telling you you had no
00:07:35.600 chance it's even less chance right now so if if you're if you had no uh opportunity at that point
00:07:43.040 you know it didn't get better right right so so but deportation so let's talk about that for a minute
00:07:48.560 so this is interesting so in the u.s right there's you know and this was the bovino sort of a whole
00:07:56.000 allegation against the current administration in the united states he he said that after after
00:08:01.600 minneapolis it just became a facade that you know deportation of people in the united states just
00:08:09.120 wasn't wasn't happening so what they would do is they would go into cities and they do these quick
00:08:13.840 roundups and then they'd make a big deal about it but was it a pr campaign because in the end that
00:08:20.800 processing still has to occur right these people actually have to go through a process to be
00:08:25.040 deported well well they uh because of all the bad pr and everything going on they just slowed it down
00:08:31.600 like he left quite frankly the the whole administration kind of dialed it down they
00:08:36.640 they level set it and tell you it lost priority which um based on you know what the president 0.99
00:08:44.480 had run on was the fact that he was going to clean up illegal citizens get them out of the country
00:08:50.480 they're not doing it right now we on the other hand we've never had a system you know so you know
00:08:57.280 come over to canada we've really never had a system to attack it to your point what was the
00:09:01.760 number 20 23 000 yeah 23 000 again so six maybe 600 more 600 000 yes so use a million right so
00:09:11.120 you're you're basically it's a it's a small you know decimal point percentage of people that are
00:09:17.680 actually deported out of the country based on the people who are illegal here but i i think mike you
00:09:23.120 know and this is uh the government's not concerned about it because they're just going to organically
00:09:30.080 leave the country oh to that end may i reference a document that i created okay i don't want to
00:09:36.880 come off like a designer but i went you know it's so funny i went down one rabbit hole in one sector
00:09:42.400 alone yes and what you're talking about is a reality yeah the likelihood of um a huge number
00:09:50.560 of unsettled migrants in canada are just going to go back home there's no choice i'll give you an
00:09:58.080 example in the logistics warehousing category alone we've seen a lot of action you know you 0.99
00:10:05.940 and i talk about it regularly oh yeah and where i live it's all shipping containers warehouses that
00:10:12.340 are kilometers by kilometers in size that are and it's constant i mean the trucking is constant 24
00:10:19.900 hours a day in and out of these let me tell you what a trucker makes if i may okay the living
00:10:25.400 wage of the average GTA trucker
00:10:27.500 is $27.20
00:10:29.440 per hour.
00:10:31.660 Okay?
00:10:32.960 To rent a one-bedroom house in Toronto,
00:10:35.640 you need approximately
00:10:37.140 $44 an hour
00:10:38.940 in wages to survive.
00:10:41.820 Right. The sector
00:10:42.540 contraction is occurring. Driver
00:10:45.220 employment is down 7.3%, so
00:10:47.280 even if you wanted a job as a trucker,
00:10:49.160 it's hard to get now.
00:10:51.300 Systematic wage theft, 74%
00:10:53.320 of surveyed local drivers reported
00:10:55.140 unpaid waiting times so they're sitting you know have you ever seen a truck just kind of cruising
00:11:01.320 down the road slowly of course that's they don't want to get stuck at the weight so the traffic
00:11:06.140 behind them lags uh misclassification 62 percent of Ontario drivers are forced into driver ink
00:11:12.360 schemes losing basic protection so they're all talked into creating their own little industry
00:11:20.920 of their little business an entrepreneurial endeavor of their own so that they have to
00:11:25.980 cover their own insurance they have to cover their own liability all of that yeah so that
00:11:31.260 contraction in that industry is making it more difficult for what was a natural progression of
00:11:36.540 jobs so temporary residents who left canada sorry go ahead no no no i was gonna hit on that too i
00:11:43.320 didn't want to lose the thought yeah yeah so so think about it right and i've heard of many of
00:11:47.640 these cases you hear it all the time you come on a visitor visa yep right you show up you say i'm
00:11:53.860 coming to a wedding you get in you come to a wedding next thing you know you're getting your
00:11:58.760 truck your driver's license you're getting your trucking license and next thing you're on the
00:12:02.780 road and you're getting paid for cash right right so i think where you're going where i took that
00:12:08.080 when you mentioned to me before the show mike now look at what's happening now we have terrorists we
00:12:13.340 have uh slowing of exporting we have all these things happening so the economy is dialing down
00:12:18.540 so you know you talk about the these container fields these container cities these massive
00:12:26.140 logistics trucking where did all these people come that actually are dry were driving trucks
00:12:30.860 and a lot of them were international they came in they came in on uh you know they didn't really
00:12:37.980 they weren't paying uh lawyers and immigration consultants thousands of dollars they were
00:12:42.860 clipping whatever visa they could get to get in the country temporarily so they could drive for
00:12:48.140 cash so take the cash take the cash well think about mike so you know i was doing this before
00:12:54.300 the show you know a lot of these countries quite frankly you know whose currency so you know let's
00:13:02.060 you know take a currency where um you know a thousand dollars is worth a million okay right
00:13:10.700 so you know you you basically work for a year you go back home so if you you know you make yourself
00:13:17.580 twenty thousand dollars quite frankly you go back home with two million dollars right right roughly
00:13:23.980 you know you can retire how you want to do so well you can buy a home you can probably live
00:13:28.060 for 10 years you know crop your little side of a city you know in uh the pacific you know and uh
00:13:37.420 you have a pretty good life pretty good life you have a cow you have some chickens and you
00:13:42.140 crop and then when you run out of money again you find another place to go for another three or four
00:13:46.220 years so you can garner up a couple million dollars you do that three times in your life
00:13:51.180 you have enough money because you got your house paid off on the first job right so you all your
00:13:55.420 next one's paid for some opulence in your life and the next one handles your retirement so you
00:14:01.020 ended up in dubai first they they you you expired your you know they're very diligent in that country
00:14:07.420 about getting you out when your work permits are done so they come find you and get you out get
00:14:12.140 you back you maybe go to australia who is actually also very diligent about making sure you're done
00:14:17.820 when your work permits are done then but you've you've now you've got eight years in right so you
00:14:22.620 you know you've got you know i don't know four million lack or whatever in your pocket um and
00:14:28.860 And now, you know, you've bought your million-dollar house outside the city.
00:14:32.760 You've got a couple kids.
00:14:34.040 Your wife's happy.
00:14:35.300 You're disappearing, you know, every decade for four years.
00:14:38.540 You're picking up another couple million.
00:14:41.120 Quite frankly, you're set.
00:14:42.980 Yeah.
00:14:43.440 Not a bad gig.
00:14:44.600 No, I mean, I see the sensibility in being that kind of entrepreneur,
00:14:49.820 which is really what it is.
00:14:50.860 And by the way, a shout-out to Armin, Uber driver,
00:14:54.540 who explained all of this to me because he started in Dubai.
00:14:58.200 Yeah. He ended up in Australia. Now he's in Canada. Of course. And and in between each of those, he did trips back to his home country and began to set up his life. Yeah. Brought his wife with him for this day. In three years, they'll get the boot and they'll head back home and they'll begin a family and he'll come back again one more time in his life to Canada or Australia again just to do it so that his kids have something to begin a life back home. Right. So but we don't. So it's interesting.
00:15:28.180 interesting because we don't we don't deport what we do deport but we don't do very much of it right
00:15:33.340 so you know the guys hats off and it's and not blaming the guys who actually work on the squad
00:15:38.560 who do this but because I know not the greatest job because it's some sad stories and quite
00:15:43.600 frankly it can be dangerous but for the most part you know it's it's kind of hit and miss we're not
00:15:49.420 we're definitely and I don't think we ever want to do it we don't want to be the Americans as far
00:15:54.640 you know where we where they were going with deportation but what's going to happen i think
00:16:00.820 what's what's been the canadian norm is it follows the economic cycle right so basically as as the
00:16:07.580 boom goes we see more immigration quite frankly we see more let's call it uh tourism employment
00:16:14.040 where they just come over on a you know a visa visit visa and they end up staying they stay for
00:16:21.400 a few years and then finally quite frankly the market taps out right so you know uh you saw like
00:16:28.320 for example in some cities as we were going through covid you saw driving schools go through
00:16:33.340 the roof right now they're gone yeah so now logistics as you're talking about it's about
00:16:38.580 to disappear so as you're looking at the tariffs and everything happening come after september 8th
00:16:43.540 which by the way september 8th is now yeah yeah it was like holy crap september 8th is now so
00:16:50.000 basically next week you're going to see a bunch of people very quiet and then what they'll do is
00:16:58.880 they'll say okay they'll look at their bank accounts and they'll look at how long they've
00:17:03.200 been here they won't last long well you're gonna see a mass exodus of them they'll start to peel
00:17:08.720 out yeah yeah 48 of all immigrants leaving canada are doing it from ontario and by the way uh there's
00:17:15.600 some polling proof behind this if you believe the polls which you and i have a hard time with but
00:17:20.000 i'll throw one out there anyway yeah uh 39 of people surveyed uh said that they are considering
00:17:28.640 leaving canada due to the cost and low wages in the category of logistics alone so i took that
00:17:37.040 one category yeah but you can go into many other categories and see the the the problems
00:17:43.680 associated shipping uh plastics manufacturing yeah knickknacks gadgets all those things you're
00:17:50.640 going to go right down the line and they'll quickly now it's interesting you mentioned
00:17:55.040 toronto because i was before the show i was looking at it 50 of the immigration lands in
00:18:00.320 toronto right yeah between toronto and vancouver that's you know uh for a lot of reasons you know
00:18:06.000 number one uh you know we're we're considered sanctuary cities quite frankly so we we basically
00:18:12.240 accept people from other countries very easily and we have a lot of supports in place so you
00:18:17.760 see a lot of them come but those are the cities you're going to see hardest hit with people moving
00:18:22.240 out and leaving we're not going to have to deport people like we're you know someone said that you
00:18:28.320 know i was at a lunch the other day and someone said you see the americans they do that we should
00:18:32.480 do that i'm like well we don't need to do that we don't like exactly we're there's no there's
00:18:37.600 no necessity because when the market shrinks we're small enough that the impact is big enough
00:18:43.200 that quite frankly they'll get they'll get moving on their own uh in fact the numbers on that the
00:18:48.320 estimated numbers on people moving based on uh just sheer inability to remain um is a hot a much
00:18:57.680 higher percentage than we think 25 of the people that are currently here without status allegedly
00:19:04.800 are already in the mindset that they're going so that deportation a certain amount of that
00:19:10.300 is people just departing not deporting yeah well it's interesting the only ones now this is the
00:19:16.260 sad part when this happens and we've been through before and and i had the guys pull this before the
00:19:22.000 show the people were going to be left with the sad part is the people who weren't working from
00:19:26.160 the beginning right so when you look at the supports so you look at the you know ei supports
00:19:31.380 and you look at the child benefit supports that we give to people who have PRs and refugee status
00:19:37.700 and even some of those supports after a certain period of time actually are given to them after
00:19:43.120 18 months. And then I went province by province and I looked at from income support to income
00:19:48.780 assistance to SAD to employment assistance from province to province. They all have PR and refugee 0.96
00:19:57.280 claimant status eligible okay so what's going to happen which is very interesting this is a 0.93
00:20:04.240 conundrum we're about to see and it's going to be this will be probably one of the first times
00:20:10.180 in canadian history where we're going to see it and these are the toughest predictions this is
00:20:15.880 paul's predictions right we're going to see a void we're going to see a fast void of people gone
00:20:22.620 So these were people who were working illegally, working for cash.
00:20:28.000 They've been here three, four, five, six years.
00:20:30.780 They've kind of managed through the system below the radar.
00:20:35.160 It's dried up.
00:20:36.300 They're going to pick up.
00:20:37.240 They're going to head back because they're on their second turn, as we talked about,
00:20:40.820 that they've entered into a foreign country for a period of time.
00:20:44.280 But their life is really back in another country.
00:20:46.640 And it's going to go poof.
00:20:48.000 so we're going to lose a million plus people really quick out of the system so that's that's
00:20:53.820 a little disturbing in itself and and by the way this is a moment i wouldn't mind saying
00:20:57.440 before i see the comments let's use the comments for something else this time
00:21:02.080 we're going to put a poll up there uh if you came to canada earning 23 an hour but couldn't
00:21:08.060 realistically afford housing would you stay yes or no that's the poll that you'll get today
00:21:13.480 This is a moment where I want to say, when I see those comments, I say one of two things.
00:21:18.940 People go too far on either side with the comments on this stuff.
00:21:21.820 I either hear people say to us, oh, you're anti-immigrant.
00:21:25.900 I should point out, both Paul and I are married to new Canadians in the grand scheme of things,
00:21:32.340 even though we were born here in Canada. 0.96
00:21:34.100 That's not the issue here.
00:21:35.700 It's sheer mass numbers.
00:21:37.740 And what we're doing to immigrants in this country isn't necessarily fair. 0.86
00:21:41.980 There is a backlog.
00:21:43.040 there is a process circus going on constantly day and night with what the regulations and the
00:21:50.140 requirements are going to be. And we don't have the jobs here that were promised to the people
00:21:55.420 that came here as students. So we have done this. The people who have applied legally are going to
00:22:01.300 be next. So, you know, after we get through the illegal, you know, the deport, let's call it the,
00:22:06.120 what'd you call it? Departing. Departing. So after the departing, quite frankly, then you're going to
00:22:10.940 get another layer of people who are waiting for jobs that are working here right and then we'll
00:22:14.960 see kind of things slowing down they'll have they'll have actually made their money already
00:22:19.740 uh hopefully paid off their school bills and education bills and they'll be back they'll be
00:22:24.500 gone too they'll be they'll go back because rents cost of living all the things back home you know
00:22:30.460 they already have homes that their family homes back in the country that they come from that they
00:22:35.020 can live free rent free in they already you know have farms and are able to produce food sort of
00:22:42.180 on their own sustainably also there's a percentage of these people that aren't going home they're
00:22:46.300 going to find another place in the world that can use their skills yeah they're booking out of here
00:22:50.100 to go somewhere else they're going to the the next most developed country that can provide them
00:22:54.720 in life yes yeah so they'll they'll figure out they're very astute so they'll figure all that
00:22:59.900 out we all are as humans we find our place yeah but now so the interesting the gap mike in this
00:23:05.980 which i think is you know the gap analysis we're gonna let be left with a segment of the population
00:23:10.620 that just not working so they're on these social benefit programs and what's going to happen is
00:23:15.980 the government's going to have to address it so we've been kind of you know as as immigration
00:23:21.180 expanded through covet we had a bunch of people come always there's free riders on every system
00:23:26.700 quite frankly we've kind of ignored it we've kind of said you know that'll level out that'll level
00:23:30.860 set it's going to level it's it's unfortunately it's not going to level set it's going to become
00:23:35.900 pretty transparent pretty quick because what's going to happen is we'll need those people to
00:23:40.700 actually come off those social benefit programs and come into the economy just to work because
00:23:46.460 we actually need the labor we need the manpower oh yeah we'll need them we'll need them functional so
00:23:51.100 we're going to have to kind of slowly wean off those problems so you know it's interesting
00:23:54.780 because i know daniel smith got a lot of criticism remember when we did that show
00:23:58.780 on um what was the gentleman from this uh on the separatism show oh uh uh uh
00:24:07.100 hi i'm sorry come to me okay anyways we'll come to it but we did the show
00:24:12.060 and he actually uh we went through her referendum javine javine yeah that's right javon javon yeah
00:24:19.740 yeah so we went we went and we did the show and basically uh we went through her questions that
00:24:27.580 are on the referendum that she's putting up and one of them is should we should people who aren't
00:24:33.380 permanent residents get health care it was there was a list of questions that had to do with him
00:24:37.820 so you know i think which probably she didn't do a great job of um explaining where she was going
00:24:45.200 with it but i think she understood that the runway for the canadian economy was shortening
00:24:51.120 um which we've talked about on a few shows lately and that this was coming so she's she was trying
00:24:56.400 to get a trying to get ahead of it ahead of it and say you know we should address it because quite 0.99
00:25:00.880 frankly we're going to have to hit it head on as things slow she has a tendency to do this she does
00:25:06.400 get ahead of the conversation a little bit fearlessly knowing that uh she's going to have 0.99
00:25:10.800 have to have that oil pipeline conversation that lng conversation that immigration conversation
00:25:17.220 100 she does get ahead of it i have to give her credit for that because by the time everybody 0.97
00:25:21.980 else is talking about it well we already gave her shit eight months ago for that and now we're 0.79
00:25:26.880 actually in this situation yeah so uh yeah no i i do so overall what i thought about when we 0.97
00:25:34.340 talked about doing a deportation show my first thoughts were oh my god we're only getting rid of
00:25:39.760 this many people and we have this many people illegally in canada this seems crazy i'll be
00:25:44.920 honest that was my first oh yeah because security job security economy all of these things come to
00:25:50.880 mind for anybody even if you have immigrated to canada you now start to think that way as a
00:25:56.080 citizen you want to protect your family your livelihood and your future yes and this didn't
00:26:01.340 feel like we cared too much about it it but the reality is no there isn't that much necessity for
00:26:08.960 it because really as the economy is shrinking and we are losing that runway and we're not getting a
00:26:14.800 takeoff we're not taking flight nope these people are going to just out of necessity find other
00:26:20.240 places to be when you need 44 an hour to live in can't in toronto but you're only making 22
00:26:26.200 there is no there's no denying that's going to end our big question is who's going to step into
00:26:32.040 that void so and that's a great question in order to keep us a productive uh economy who's gonna 0.75
00:26:39.080 who's gonna fill the void of those jobs so i've got an idea yeah immigrants well our kids are
00:26:45.400 possibly i mean sure of course you know it has to be right it has to be you know our productivity 0.95
00:26:51.400 levels are low now you take out the uh people who are working for cash in the factories people who
00:26:57.320 are driving the trucks for cash you take all those people out of the economy and they go poof
00:27:02.280 right they're going to have to be backfilled with someone i do agree yeah now if the people here's
00:27:07.400 the scary part to this if the people are on the social benefits don't want to ever work so if
00:27:13.000 if they've just been...
