True Patriot Love - Riyadh Comedy Festival： Comedy vs Conscience

00:00:00.000 The whole world deserves to laugh.

00:00:02.100 If the whole world could just laugh, right?

00:00:05.140 Unless you're performing for laughs at the Riyadh Comedy Festival.

00:00:09.680 Today we're talking about that.

00:00:11.180 It's a big topic, not just in the comedy world,

00:00:13.760 but in the entertainment world and the world of global politics suddenly.

00:00:17.840 We're talking about that today on The Daily Cancel.

00:00:26.580 Okay, joining me today for this topic,

00:00:28.540 two of the funnier people I know,

00:00:31.620 Nick Delinsky, producer here and writer at TPL,

00:00:35.860 and of course our very own correspondent and executive producer, Brady Wedham.

00:00:40.340 Guys, thanks for joining me.

00:00:41.680 Now, I have to position you as experts because you kind of are.

00:00:47.120 In fact, all of us are huge fans of comedy,

00:00:49.440 but this one has really caused waves, man.

00:00:53.660 It's a desert storm of controversy.

00:00:59.540 Well, Mike, thank you for having me on The Daily Canceled.

00:01:02.260 I am very glad to be here.

00:01:05.040 I don't know if this is a group of people who have sold their souls

00:01:10.100 or if they're just doing it for the paycheck

00:01:12.500 because they got to, you know, pay the bills.

00:01:14.380 But there has been a lot of controversy in the past couple of weeks

00:01:17.580 talking about the Riyadh Comedy Festival.

00:01:19.660 You may know some of these names.

00:01:20.940 Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Andrew Schultz, Aziz Ansari,

00:01:24.040 Bill Burr, Chris DiStefano,

00:01:27.280 Chris Tucker for a second there.

00:01:28.740 I was like, was that Tucker Carlson?

00:01:31.820 I mean, anyway, Hannibal Buress, big deal.

00:01:34.660 Jimmy Carr, Joe Coy, Louis CK, Mark Norman,

00:01:37.340 big names, big names, Pete Davidson.

00:01:40.360 I think he's a comedian still.

00:01:41.980 Sebastian Maniscalco.

00:01:44.160 These are all very big names in the comedy world, Nick.

00:01:47.000 Yeah, for sure, for sure.

00:01:48.620 And, I mean, I think, you know,

00:01:51.540 my opinion has already been said enough,

00:01:53.220 so I'll spare it just to think, like,

00:01:54.560 if these people are, you know,

00:01:56.780 supposed to be, you know,

00:01:58.980 arbiters of free speech and things like this,

00:02:00.800 why are they, you know,

00:02:02.440 being paid by such an oppressive government, you know?

00:02:05.380 But to me...

00:02:06.380 Wait, wait, wait.

00:02:06.820 Give me that one again, but slow down.

00:02:08.300 I want to understand the logic of this one.

00:02:10.140 If these people are so for free speech,

00:02:11.960 why are they taking money from people

00:02:13.520 that hamper free speech so much?

00:02:15.720 Yeah, they just killed a journalist.

00:02:17.780 Right.

00:02:19.180 And there's Jamal Khashoggi.

00:02:21.340 That was another case.

00:02:23.240 And so, yeah, again, this is not a new opinion,

00:02:26.520 but it's sort of, it's just, to me,

00:02:29.200 it's another example of, you know,

00:02:30.900 what I realize is that, you know,

00:02:34.280 funny doesn't exactly equal being right about everything.

00:02:38.600 Yeah.

00:02:39.220 Yep.

00:02:39.760 Yeah.

00:02:40.400 I think people make this conflation

00:02:43.020 that just because you laugh at something,

00:02:44.260 I have, I know so many comedians

00:02:45.740 that I find hilarious,

00:02:47.360 but their politics just make me,

00:02:50.640 just make me gross. 0.84

00:02:51.820 So, so what do you think?

00:02:53.300 Do you, do you avoid them or do you?

00:02:55.700 I've just, you know, I, I used to avoid them

00:02:57.580 and now I think like, get, they're not,

00:02:59.800 you know, they're, I don't need to take their opinion.

00:03:02.780 I don't think people should,

00:03:03.720 should be getting their opinions from, from comedians.

00:03:06.200 I don't.

00:03:06.780 No, I think so too.

00:03:07.540 I mean, like, when did we ever think Rodney Dangerfield

00:03:09.820 was going to give us anything meaningful

00:03:11.400 or Sam Kinison or Richard Pryor?

00:03:15.400 There's a new era of righteousness

00:03:17.240 in every element of fame.

00:03:19.180 Well, I think it started with George Carlin, right?

00:03:22.040 When George Carlin,

00:03:22.820 because when George first started,

00:03:24.440 and people that are smarter than I can tell you

00:03:26.760 way more information than I can on George Carlin.

00:03:28.800 I'm a big fan of George Carlin,

00:03:29.880 but not a historian on him.

00:03:31.180 But I know that his comedy style

00:03:32.540 when he first started

00:03:33.440 is a lot different than when it ended.

00:03:35.500 Yeah.

00:03:35.680 And he was very political in his stance, right?

00:03:40.300 I, I don't know if I agree with that.

00:03:43.600 I think that if a human being is put on a stage

00:03:47.280 and has a microphone

00:03:47.980 and he's there to make people laugh

00:03:49.300 and he says something prolific

00:03:50.460 or something that you can take away from it

00:03:51.980 and apply it to your life

00:03:53.020 to either benefit your life

00:03:55.220 or just to look at something

00:03:56.280 from a different perspective,

00:03:57.220 I think that happens.

00:03:58.540 And that could happen through not only jokes,

00:04:00.080 but it could happen through horror stories too, right?

00:04:02.660 Like, I think there's things to learn

00:04:04.720 from anybody that's in a position

00:04:06.160 where they seem like they're stable.

00:04:08.460 Now, if we're talking about, you know,

00:04:10.400 Bobby Lee, for instance,

00:04:11.480 and this is no shame on Bobby Lee,

00:04:13.140 but I don't care what Bobby Lee's political opinion is. 0.99

00:04:17.020 I couldn't give a shit. 0.99

00:04:18.460 But Russell Peters, I might. 0.99

00:04:20.500 Yeah.

00:04:21.380 Right?

00:04:21.760 Like, I might be able to listen to Russell talk about...

00:04:24.120 Dave Chappelle seems to be a bit of an orator now

00:04:26.300 alongside being a comedian.

00:04:29.360 Yeah, he got political when his comeback.

00:04:32.220 Very much so.

00:04:32.920 He wasn't political before.

00:04:34.380 No.

00:04:34.640 Not really. 0.99

00:04:35.140 He was pooping dick jokes. 0.99

00:04:36.620 Yeah. 0.99

00:04:37.000 Yeah, pretty much.

00:04:37.740 It's interesting you brought up Russell Peters

00:04:39.860 because even before all this,

00:04:41.860 he had a whole bit in his act

00:04:44.080 talking about performing for Saudis.

00:04:46.400 And in the story,

00:04:49.060 he talks about talking to Osama bin Laden's brother

00:04:51.080 over the phone.

00:04:52.300 I vaguely remember that.

00:04:53.540 Yeah.

00:04:53.840 Yeah.

00:04:54.540 To get the booking done,

00:04:55.960 he was the paying customer.

00:04:58.260 Yeah.

00:04:58.800 Yeah, yeah.

00:04:59.560 I'm sure he made boatloads of cash.

00:05:01.440 He wouldn't be there.

00:05:02.060 Well, some of the people on this list

00:05:03.380 are definitely in the $10 million list.

00:05:05.060 I'm guessing.

00:05:06.800 Yeah.

00:05:07.340 You know, Kevin Hart isn't doing this

00:05:09.780 and selling his name potentially.

00:05:12.220 Now, honestly.

00:05:13.740 Kevin Hart doesn't need any more money.

00:05:15.980 Well, then why is he doing this?

00:05:17.780 Well, he would do...

00:05:19.900 He'll do anything.

00:05:21.160 He would do a show for, you know, Al-Qaeda.

00:05:24.060 You know, he does anything.

00:05:25.780 He doesn't care.

00:05:26.120 Yeah.

00:05:26.920 Well, I think that that's the question then.

00:05:29.140 Is this a group of sellouts?

00:05:30.800 Is this people who just don't care at all?

00:05:33.500 I think when you're looking at the Tom Seguras of the world

00:05:35.640 who have already came out since COVID

00:05:37.720 and said, you know,

00:05:38.720 I don't do my podcast to relate to the poors. 1.00

00:05:43.000 I do my podcast so I can buy nice cars and nice things.

00:05:46.580 And you guys can all sit there and admire it

00:05:48.360 and boo-hoo for you. 0.98

00:05:50.360 So...

00:05:50.560 I guess.

00:05:51.440 So Tom Seguras, I understand,

00:05:53.400 taking the paycheck

00:05:54.000 because they're openly honest about that.

00:05:55.620 And respectfully,

00:05:56.660 you've got to respect anybody

00:05:57.600 who's going to be open and honest,

00:05:58.940 I guess, if that's their opinion.

00:06:00.160 I've got to agree with them.

00:06:01.260 But things like Jimmy Carr surprised me.

00:06:04.640 Yeah, a couple of names on here

00:06:05.780 actually did surprise me.

00:06:06.700 Bill Burr was shocking to me.

00:06:08.140 I'm not surprised by Bill Burr.

00:06:09.380 Not after the past couple of years.

00:06:10.600 Really?

00:06:10.840 He seems to be Mr. All-American.

00:06:13.900 Come on, let's be...

00:06:15.040 I think if you bought into the shtick

00:06:16.160 of him hating billionaires

00:06:17.240 and listening to that

00:06:18.220 for that he's been spewing

00:06:19.200 for the past couple of years,

00:06:20.160 then maybe you would have, you know,

00:06:22.160 thought there was truth.

00:06:23.220 I can see Ray through it

00:06:24.880 because I was such a big fan of Bill.

00:06:27.300 Bill's the same guy that said

00:06:28.200 anybody who watches a Star Wars movie 0.98

00:06:29.760 is a loser 0.99

00:06:30.860 and needs to do something with their life. 0.99

00:06:32.580 And a couple of years later,

00:06:33.340 takes a massive paycheck

00:06:34.440 and has his own Star Wars action figure.

00:06:36.300 So I don't think

00:06:37.880 anything that he has ever said

00:06:40.500 or put out there

00:06:41.300 should be anything

00:06:41.880 that you hold your hat on with Bill.

00:06:43.640 So I'm not surprised with Bill.

00:06:44.800 Now, there's some quality comedians on here.

00:06:46.600 I mean, except for Joe Coy.

00:06:48.000 There's like some really good comedians

00:06:49.460 on this list.

00:06:50.940 How do you think they justify...

00:06:53.500 I'm just kidding.

00:06:54.140 Joe Coy is marginally funny.

00:06:56.460 What do you think the logic was in their mind

00:06:59.400 knowing that this...

00:07:00.920 Or do you think that these comedians

00:07:02.280 even had a single clue

00:07:04.200 that there would be blowback on this?

00:07:06.840 I mean, there could have been panic

00:07:08.220 in their minds of just like,

00:07:09.520 let's just get as much money as we can

00:07:11.600 before the economy implodes.

00:07:13.100 Yeah.

00:07:14.860 I also think possibly they didn't think

00:07:17.600 people would really know about this.

00:07:20.580 I mean, it's not a secret,

00:07:21.740 but at the same time,

00:07:23.140 it's a lot of things

00:07:23.880 just fly under the radar.

00:07:25.020 Well, once Tim Dillon got invited,

00:07:26.960 of course, the whole world

00:07:28.160 was going to know

00:07:28.840 that it was going on.

00:07:30.020 Can we talk about that for a second?

00:07:32.360 Comedian Tim Dillon,

00:07:33.380 if you didn't listen to his podcast,

00:07:35.360 you can go back.

00:07:36.000 By the way, I love Tim Dillon.

00:07:38.020 I can get 14, 18 minutes

00:07:41.080 into his podcast

00:07:42.100 and I have to take a break

00:07:43.700 because he's like the neighbor

00:07:45.580 yelling at you

00:07:46.620 about things you want to talk about.

00:07:48.540 If Wilson was drunk

00:07:49.640 on Home Improvement.

00:07:50.520 It was.

00:07:51.340 Exactly.

00:07:52.500 Anyway, he was like very forthcoming

00:07:54.480 that he went on and said

00:07:56.380 that he didn't care.

00:07:59.760 He was going to take the money

00:08:00.960 and all of it.

00:08:02.240 But it really quickly became satire,

00:08:04.600 I think, from Tim

00:08:05.540 as he said it out loud

00:08:07.060 and realized,

00:08:07.720 okay, well, these people,

00:08:08.800 you know, have a slave system historically. 0.62

00:08:11.120 They treat people badly.

00:08:12.720 I don't care.

00:08:13.540 I want the money, he said.

00:08:16.020 Well, I think, you know,

00:08:17.500 he made a couple of comments

00:08:18.580 that went a little too far

00:08:19.640 and next thing you know,

00:08:20.860 he was canceled anyway.

00:08:22.120 That's what I think the story

00:08:23.540 and the narrative

00:08:24.100 has been put out there.

00:08:25.020 This is what I think.

00:08:25.820 I think whoever booked this

00:08:27.500 and works for his excellency

00:08:29.040 went through a list

00:08:30.280 of the biggest numbers

00:08:31.200 and drawing comedians

00:08:32.380 and said, get them all.

00:08:33.480 Get as many as you can.

00:08:34.400 Whoever will take it.

00:08:35.240 Bring this huge comedy festival.

00:08:36.880 And then they get,

00:08:37.680 they get the list back

00:08:38.600 and one of them is Tim.

00:08:40.040 And then they hear a comment about,

00:08:41.820 what do you mean

00:08:42.120 that this comedian's talking

00:08:43.140 about this already,

00:08:43.880 about the deal?

00:08:44.860 And they look into him

00:08:45.820 and they were like,

00:08:46.380 this is the guy

00:08:47.820 that has a picture of him.

00:08:51.260 Don't say it.

00:08:51.940 We all saw the picture.

00:08:52.960 Look up Tim Dillon pictures.

00:08:54.680 Yeah.

00:08:55.300 Yeah.

00:08:55.900 Even, I'd re-add to it

00:08:57.280 and you'd probably

00:08:57.920 get a little closer,

00:08:58.800 but he was caught.

00:09:00.280 He was pretty,

00:09:01.160 pretty quickly.

00:09:02.540 People that they throw up.

00:09:03.500 The Riyadh Comedy Festival

00:09:03.860 threw up images of,

00:09:05.800 no, this is why

00:09:06.660 he's not coming on the show.

00:09:07.760 I'm pretty sure

00:09:08.120 they were only bringing him there

00:09:09.120 to throw him off the building

00:09:10.300 like they do everybody else 1.00

00:09:11.480 who is a homosexual 1.00

00:09:12.340 in Saudi Arabia. 0.96

00:09:13.760 He said that actually

00:09:14.980 on his show.

00:09:15.520 He goes,

00:09:15.660 now I'm suspicious.

00:09:16.800 This could be,

00:09:17.620 by the way,

00:09:17.960 a very clever lineup.

00:09:19.500 You know,

00:09:20.000 they'll come for the money

00:09:21.000 and then we can get rid

00:09:22.220 of all of them

00:09:23.200 at the same time.

00:09:24.760 I don't think it's that evil.

00:09:26.160 Pete Davidson.

00:09:27.640 Yeah.

00:09:28.120 Also,

00:09:28.700 there was all comedians

00:09:30.340 on this list

00:09:31.000 and then Pete Davidson.

00:09:32.760 That confused me.

00:09:33.800 Oh, and Whitney Cummings.

00:09:34.760 You missed that.

00:09:35.160 Oh, yeah, sorry.

00:09:35.860 No, so they must have

00:09:36.820 some other,

00:09:37.240 maybe they're doing wrestling

00:09:38.340 or something.

00:09:39.040 Both of their names.

00:09:39.560 Everything,

00:09:40.220 anybody that doesn't know

00:09:41.140 who Pete Davidson is,

00:09:42.160 he's a comedian.

00:09:43.220 I think he's still dating

00:09:44.480 Kim Kardashian,

00:09:46.000 Kanye's ex

00:09:46.620 or something like that.

00:09:47.280 Oh, I don't really know.

00:09:47.800 Anyway,

00:09:49.100 SNL alumni.

00:09:50.600 He's been in SNL forever.

00:09:51.760 Well, look at his story.

00:09:53.000 His story's pretty crazy.

00:09:54.240 There's no way

00:09:54.620 that he's done the math

00:09:55.460 on this, right?

00:09:55.720 His father

00:09:56.500 was in the very first

00:09:58.960 team of firemen

00:10:00.180 who arrived on the scene

00:10:01.820 9-11

00:10:03.640 at the World Trade Center

00:10:04.700 and ended up passing away

00:10:05.800 him and his entire firehouse.

00:10:07.680 Passed away

00:10:08.180 in that tragedy.

00:10:10.440 And some people,

00:10:12.080 majority of people,

00:10:12.900 think that some of that

00:10:14.000 was organized

00:10:14.900 by Saudi Arabia.

00:10:16.560 And 24 years later,

00:10:19.840 Pete is going over there

00:10:21.320 to take a paycheck

00:10:21.900 from the same group of people.

00:10:23.820 Allegedly.

00:10:24.520 Allegedly.

00:10:25.480 So,

00:10:26.600 where does that leave?

00:10:27.400 What's alleged?

00:10:29.100 Oh, right.

00:10:30.120 It's real.

00:10:30.880 Oh, okay.

00:10:31.600 I mean,

00:10:31.860 is there any evidence

00:10:34.220 against that

00:10:34.800 the Saudis didn't?

00:10:36.200 I'm so sorry.

00:10:36.760 I don't know why

00:10:37.140 I said allegedly.

00:10:39.540 I mean,

00:10:39.860 allegedly,

00:10:40.660 he just took the money

00:10:42.340 knowing this.

00:10:43.800 I only speak about comedy

00:10:45.060 on TPL.

00:10:45.940 I can't comment

00:10:47.460 on anything else you're saying.

00:10:49.120 Allegedly,

00:10:49.720 it was with regard

00:10:50.500 to Pete Davidson's

00:10:51.860 understanding

00:10:52.640 that,

00:10:53.940 yeah,

00:10:54.100 he's taking money

00:10:54.640 from the same guys

00:10:55.300 who killed us badly.

00:10:56.100 I mean,

00:10:56.360 is there any debate

00:10:57.160 that the Saudis

00:10:57.820 weren't involved

00:10:58.940 in 9-11?

00:10:59.720 Is this a conspiracy theory?

00:11:01.300 There's no debate.

00:11:02.000 I want to stipulate again.

00:11:06.740 Let's debate it right now.

00:11:08.180 Okay,

00:11:08.580 well,

00:11:08.780 I don't think they did.

00:11:09.560 All right.

00:11:10.200 I don't think they had

00:11:10.900 anything to do with it.

00:11:11.720 These people love comedy.

00:11:12.900 They love comedy.

00:11:14.700 Why would they do comedy?

00:11:15.960 It couldn't be bad.

00:11:16.940 No.

00:11:17.080 It couldn't be bad.

00:11:17.960 No,

00:11:18.180 but you're right,

00:11:18.680 and that connection

00:11:19.440 has been made.

00:11:20.460 And then the other name

00:11:21.160 is Whitney Cummings,

00:11:22.040 who has spent

00:11:22.560 a very long time

00:11:23.440 talking about women's rights

00:11:24.460 and being a feminist. 1.00

00:11:25.820 I like that Nick waits

00:11:25.840 until we're doing a show

00:11:26.780 to hate me.

00:11:29.500 I was confused.

00:11:32.440 I was excited.

00:11:33.140 No,

00:11:33.300 there's no confusion.

00:11:34.340 I misspoke.

00:11:35.820 What I meant was,

00:11:36.760 allegedly,

00:11:37.900 he has not made

00:11:38.500 the connection,

00:11:39.160 or I don't know.

00:11:40.340 Anyway,

00:11:40.720 Pete Davidson,

00:11:41.400 I guess,

00:11:41.840 shame on you.

00:11:43.120 Whitney Cummings,

00:11:44.000 another one,

00:11:44.500 who is a voice

00:11:45.160 of women's rights

00:11:46.980 and feminism 0.99

00:11:47.620 and standing up

00:11:48.920 for anything

00:11:49.300 that has to do

00:11:50.020 with stuff like this.

00:11:52.140 She's on the plane,

00:11:53.180 on the way.

00:11:53.960 Yeah.

00:11:54.460 Yeah.

00:11:55.480 I wonder how they'll

00:11:56.400 deal with it on stage

00:11:57.240 there.

00:11:57.420 Now,

00:11:57.960 the rest of the comedy

00:11:59.040 community that wasn't

00:12:00.220 invited or didn't take

00:12:01.360 the gig is out there

00:12:02.780 certainly with their opinions.

00:12:04.280 One of them is David Cross,

00:12:05.820 who published an article.

00:12:07.080 Yes,

00:12:07.340 I've actually seen that article.

00:12:08.680 I have it here in front of me.

00:12:09.980 Well,

00:12:10.120 first of all,

00:12:10.500 let me just say this.

00:12:11.360 David Cross,

00:12:11.980 I don't trust

00:12:14.700 bald guys with glasses.

00:12:17.540 I don't find you credible.

00:12:18.700 So just,

00:12:19.280 we're going to start there,

00:12:19.980 okay?

00:12:23.900 I think the best line,

00:12:26.340 he told him to say that.

00:12:28.360 Totally.

00:12:29.440 And he stumbled it out.

00:12:31.420 And he stumbled out

00:12:32.500 and we had no response for him.

00:12:33.900 do you mind if I try it again?

00:12:34.780 Let's do it again.

00:12:35.540 All right.

00:12:36.060 All right.

00:12:37.220 David Cross,

00:12:37.960 let me just say this.

00:12:39.400 These guys never want to have

00:12:40.700 a part in anything you produce.

00:12:42.080 I,

00:12:42.400 however,

00:12:42.700 would love it.

00:12:43.380 I think you're a fantastic guy.

00:12:47.800 You wrote a good article.

00:12:49.020 Let's hear it.

00:12:50.400 The best part for me was,

00:12:51.680 was,

00:12:52.580 yeah,

00:12:53.020 what's the last one?

00:12:53.380 A little further down.

00:12:54.400 It says,

00:12:54.560 I don't understand how being rich 1.00

00:12:56.040 can make someone such a whore. 1.00

00:12:58.700 Wow. 1.00

00:12:59.480 That's really,

00:13:00.860 I mean,

00:13:01.300 Nick,

00:13:01.560 to be honest with you,

00:13:02.220 that sounds like you wrote it.

00:13:03.540 Yeah.

00:13:04.040 That sounds like you wrote that.

00:13:06.060 I've heard Nick say that.

00:13:07.160 I don't know how being rich 1.00

00:13:08.080 could make you such a whore. 1.00

00:13:09.420 Get rich and find out, 1.00

00:13:10.640 buddy.

00:13:11.140 Okay.

00:13:11.960 I mean,

00:13:12.220 I guess it's addictive. 1.00

00:13:13.060 You'll be as big a whore 1.00

00:13:14.040 as any of them. 1.00

00:13:14.680 I see it in your eyes.

00:13:15.380 I guess.

00:13:16.260 I guess.

00:13:16.920 But it is a good line

00:13:17.940 because all of these people

00:13:20.400 pretty much are set

00:13:21.260 in their comedy careers.

00:13:22.060 Yeah.

00:13:22.680 Yeah.

00:13:23.140 I mean,

00:13:23.360 these aren't starving artists,

00:13:24.740 this list.

00:13:25.840 Let's get one thing straight.

00:13:27.040 This isn't,

00:13:27.720 oh,

00:13:27.920 they need to pay their rent

00:13:28.940 so they're doing the Riyadh

00:13:29.780 Comedy Festival.

00:13:31.880 These are people

00:13:32.740 who are millionaires.

00:13:33.780 Yeah.

00:13:34.040 Yeah.

00:13:34.240 I don't see Timmy No-Breaks

00:13:35.560 on the venue list.

00:13:37.300 You know what I mean?

00:13:37.840 Like,

00:13:38.000 they're not giving,

00:13:38.980 you're right,

00:13:39.420 there's nobody in here

00:13:40.300 that's considered

00:13:40.740 an independent comedian

00:13:41.780 or a young,

00:13:43.340 hustling,

00:13:43.800 grinding comedian.

00:13:44.760 No.

00:13:45.120 No.

00:13:45.400 These are all established

00:13:46.440 stadium acts

00:13:47.320 who draw 15,000 to 30,000

00:13:49.920 people per show.

00:13:51.380 I like this, though.

00:13:52.960 I remember the backlash

00:13:54.260 I got for appearing

00:13:55.200 in Alvin and the Chipmunks.

00:13:56.620 You would have thought

00:13:57.400 I had taken the money

00:13:58.140 from a bunch of people

00:13:59.080 responsible for funding

00:14:00.220 Al-Qaeda.

00:14:01.900 What?

00:14:03.740 So,

00:14:04.340 anyway,

00:14:04.740 listen,

00:14:05.060 David,

00:14:05.480 nobody cares about

00:14:06.440 that part of your career.

00:14:07.380 Just wanted to say that.

00:14:08.920 The other stuff in here,

00:14:10.080 okay,

00:14:10.600 a little self-righteous.

00:14:12.040 I get it.

00:14:12.740 You didn't get an invitation.

00:14:14.040 I think the comedy,

00:14:14.940 community reacting

00:14:16.420 to other comedians 0.99

00:14:18.020 is ridiculous, too. 0.98

00:14:20.760 I don't think comedians 0.99

00:14:21.600 should be taken seriously.

00:14:23.180 They are comedians.

00:14:24.540 I don't think it matters

00:14:25.980 where they perform.

00:14:27.520 They're the lowest rung

00:14:28.860 on the entertainment ladder.

00:14:31.240 Jeez.

00:14:32.240 Right above radio hosts

00:14:33.660 and just below podcast hosts,

00:14:36.860 which is where most of them

00:14:37.740 make their fame now.

00:14:38.780 Yeah.

00:14:39.560 I don't think that we should

00:14:41.320 put any value at all 0.82

00:14:44.600 incompetent comedians 0.84

00:14:47.000 as social markers.

00:14:49.260 I don't think they want it.

00:14:50.680 I don't think they need it.

00:14:51.760 And they certainly,

00:14:52.340 I don't think,

00:14:52.760 deserve it.

00:14:53.480 What we need is to laugh.

00:14:56.100 We need to laugh.

00:14:57.440 Whether they have to perform

00:14:59.380 here or there

00:15:00.320 or anywhere,

00:15:01.680 I don't think we should care,

00:15:04.060 to be honest with you.

00:15:05.040 Do you care if somebody

00:15:05.820 goes to work in Saudi Arabia

00:15:06.900 as a doctor?

00:15:09.260 No.

00:15:10.000 No.

00:15:10.660 Do you care if somebody

00:15:11.440 goes to Saudi Arabia

00:15:12.240 to be a wrestler?

00:15:16.660 Yeah.

00:15:17.300 Why?

00:15:18.620 Yeah,

00:15:18.980 because I've seen a lot of them

00:15:20.220 say that they never would

00:15:21.560 when they weren't in the company

00:15:22.860 and the second they go back

00:15:23.960 to the company,

00:15:24.740 the very first thing they do

00:15:25.580 is get on a plane

00:15:26.140 and go to Saudi Arabia.

00:15:27.600 I don't want to see people 0.98

00:15:28.520 be hypocrites. 0.84

00:15:29.300 Me personally, 1.00

00:15:30.000 I don't care.

00:15:31.460 I don't care.

00:15:32.580 Yeah.

00:15:32.960 Me personally.

00:15:33.800 Yeah,

00:15:33.960 that's what I'm saying.

00:15:34.360 In my life,

00:15:34.840 what affects me going to sleep?

00:15:36.200 That was my question.

00:15:36.520 You personally.

00:15:37.240 No.

00:15:37.900 No, 0.99

00:15:38.260 I don't give a shit. 0.99

00:15:39.020 Right. 0.99

00:15:39.480 Yeah.

00:15:40.060 The same way I would hope

00:15:41.140 that none of these comedians

00:15:42.120 care where I go to work

00:15:43.160 because they don't.

00:15:44.800 You know,

00:15:45.040 a lot of people go to Saudi Arabia

00:15:46.120 to do business.

00:15:47.800 A lot of people do that.

00:15:49.560 People that are respected

00:15:50.960 and have,

00:15:51.840 you know,

00:15:52.080 big positions,

00:15:52.960 a lot of finance

00:15:53.620 goes through there.

00:15:55.460 I've got to be honest with you.

00:15:57.160 I think this was just

00:15:58.400 an easy marker

00:15:59.860 for people to get on top of them

00:16:02.000 and hate them

00:16:03.960 because they took a job

00:16:05.160 in Saudi Arabia

00:16:05.960 that's visible.

00:16:07.880 The same thing

00:16:09.260 that if Taylor Swift

00:16:11.040 performed there.

00:16:11.880 And I think she did.

00:16:12.900 If anybody ever looked

00:16:14.620 my name up,

00:16:15.300 they would see that,

00:16:16.140 you know,

00:16:16.520 over the past couple of years,

00:16:17.600 I've done MMA

00:16:18.660 and wrestling podcasts

00:16:19.940 and radio shows.

00:16:20.940 And I have talked

00:16:22.480 about events in Riyadh

00:16:24.000 and UFC going there

00:16:25.900 and building their relationship

00:16:27.240 with His Excellency over there. 0.98

00:16:29.420 I would be a hypocrite 0.94

00:16:32.400 if I said 0.94

00:16:32.960 that I stopped watching

00:16:34.420 the UFC

00:16:34.840 because they went

00:16:35.460 to Saudi Arabia. 0.99

00:16:36.300 So I'd be a hypocrite 0.95

00:16:37.120 to say that I'm going 0.95

00:16:37.680 to turn my back

00:16:38.300 on any of these comedians.

00:16:39.400 I'm just surprised.

00:16:41.140 Me personally,

00:16:42.040 I'm actually kind of

00:16:42.880 blown back

00:16:43.500 by seeing some of these names

00:16:44.980 because I,

00:16:46.180 maybe it's my own fault

00:16:47.360 for painting an image

00:16:48.400 of these people

00:16:49.020 that maybe,

00:16:49.840 they're characters.

00:16:50.720 They're on stage

00:16:51.480 playing a character,

00:16:52.360 no different than a wrestler.

00:16:53.820 Right?

00:16:54.700 Maybe I,

00:16:56.180 to me,

00:16:56.540 I just thought that

00:16:57.180 a guy like Jimmy Carter

00:16:58.240 wouldn't do this.

00:16:59.460 Not on my belief system.

00:17:01.020 Based off of his belief system

00:17:02.340 and the way

00:17:02.640 that he has portrayed himself,

00:17:03.920 I just see this

00:17:04.740 as a complete 180

00:17:05.760 from who I thought he was.

00:17:08.420 So then I'm left

00:17:09.340 with a kind of a,

00:17:10.080 I think it's a,

00:17:12.400 it is what it is

00:17:13.240 and this is the way

00:17:13.860 the world is

00:17:14.560 kind of feeling from it.

00:17:15.940 David Cross,

00:17:16.720 what do you think?

00:17:19.360 Sorry,

00:17:19.800 his glasses got me.

00:17:22.720 I'm a little less

00:17:23.860 casual about it.

00:17:25.280 You know,

00:17:25.580 I do kind of think 0.99

00:17:26.400 they're kind of hypocrites 0.99

00:17:27.420 for doing this, 0.99

00:17:28.500 even what I said previously.

00:17:31.180 You know,

00:17:31.720 again,

00:17:32.160 these were people crying

00:17:33.180 about,

00:17:33.820 you know,

00:17:34.080 being silenced

00:17:34.840 and what have you.

00:17:35.720 Then you go in

00:17:36.460 and work for

00:17:37.020 an oppressive government.

00:17:39.040 That's hard to argue with.

00:17:40.400 It is.

00:17:40.740 That right there

00:17:43.120 is like the sticking point,

00:17:44.940 you know,

00:17:45.420 allegedly.

00:17:46.100 And I'm very curious

00:17:46.760 what Bill Burr's reaction

00:17:48.720 to this will be,

00:17:49.740 like what he'll actually say.

00:17:50.840 Yeah, me too.

00:17:51.020 That's my next question,

00:17:52.160 you guys.

00:17:52.500 How do you think

00:17:53.040 they react

00:17:53.780 to the world's reaction?

00:17:55.220 Let's hope that

00:17:56.060 Bill Burr acts

00:17:56.800 the same way he did

00:17:57.640 during that

00:17:58.060 Opie and Anthony

00:17:58.720 festival in Philly.

00:18:00.100 Oh,

00:18:00.380 that would be the best

00:18:01.600 where he just tore down

00:18:02.640 Philadelphia for,

00:18:04.260 he made,

00:18:04.940 and at one point

00:18:05.520 he said,

00:18:06.880 no,

00:18:07.160 no,

00:18:07.360 no,

00:18:07.560 I'm doing my full 15.

00:18:09.460 Hey guys.

00:18:10.280 I don't care.

00:18:11.980 No,

00:18:12.380 I can't even say,

00:18:13.160 I can't even joke

00:18:13.780 about what he would say

00:18:14.720 if he was on stage

00:18:15.620 mad at Saudi Arabia

00:18:16.760 and being,

00:18:17.820 you know,

00:18:18.500 because in Canada

00:18:19.180 you'll get cancelled

00:18:19.960 because we have

00:18:20.560 similar speech laws

00:18:21.880 apparently.

00:18:23.060 Yeah.

00:18:24.040 Yeah,

00:18:24.520 no,

00:18:24.660 but I,

00:18:24.940 and I do see

00:18:25.500 that side of it,

00:18:26.180 Nick,

00:18:26.360 that's really hard

00:18:27.120 to justify

00:18:27.860 that a country

00:18:29.140 that is so oppressive,

00:18:31.220 you'd want to go

00:18:31.980 and participate

00:18:32.620 in comedy

00:18:33.880 that is so,

00:18:35.080 you know,

00:18:36.100 meant to be

00:18:36.660 so open

00:18:37.680 and so unoppressed.

00:18:39.500 But I do agree

00:18:40.240 with you that,

00:18:41.600 you know,

00:18:41.780 we shouldn't be

00:18:42.160 taking these people,

00:18:42.980 I think this is evidence

00:18:43.940 that we should not

00:18:44.700 be taking these people

00:18:45.560 as seriously

00:18:46.200 as we have

00:18:47.000 in the past

00:18:47.660 10 years or so.

00:18:49.020 Yeah,

00:18:49.420 100%.

00:18:50.100 I remember

00:18:51.840 comedians having 0.99

00:18:53.200 garbage opinions 0.99

00:18:53.880 when I was young, 0.96

00:18:55.740 you know,

00:18:56.520 Sam Kinison,

00:18:57.700 Jim was talking

00:18:58.380 with a Sam Kinison

00:18:59.080 bit about kids

00:18:59.760 in Africa.

00:19:00.400 I think that joke 1.00

00:19:00.860 sucks. 0.99

00:19:01.740 Right. 0.99

00:19:02.000 You know,

00:19:03.180 I don't agree

00:19:03.960 with him at all.

00:19:04.540 It was never,

00:19:06.060 that's the thing,

00:19:06.960 we need to be able

00:19:07.800 to decide for ourselves

00:19:09.380 what's funny

00:19:11.080 and not funny

00:19:11.920 in that realm.

00:19:14.080 But I don't think

00:19:15.520 this is really

00:19:16.440 the same

00:19:16.840 in the sense

00:19:17.300 that those people

00:19:18.180 are taking

00:19:18.480 their regular acts

00:19:19.340 maybe updating

00:19:19.940 it a little bit

00:19:20.600 and performing

00:19:22.400 somewhere

00:19:23.060 and somehow

00:19:23.920 we put some meaning

00:19:25.300 behind

00:19:25.860 their presence

00:19:28.000 here.

00:19:28.580 You know what I mean?

00:19:29.320 Because they have podcasts

00:19:30.460 because they appear

00:19:31.840 on Joe Rogan

00:19:32.620 who by the way

00:19:33.320 is a comedian

00:19:33.940 and a fighter

00:19:34.640 and has been given

00:19:36.060 such elevation

00:19:37.940 by the whole world

00:19:39.660 that we take

00:19:41.580 all comedians

00:19:42.380 seriously

00:19:42.780 who have a podcast

00:19:43.540 or appear on one now.

00:19:44.740 like they have

00:19:45.320 real opinions

00:19:46.140 like they have

00:19:46.800 real weight

00:19:48.260 in this world.

00:19:49.720 You know,

00:19:50.060 maybe this is one

00:19:51.020 of the reasons

00:19:51.440 why I just loved

00:19:52.560 Norm and thought

00:19:53.340 he was the best.

00:19:54.180 Norm MacDonald.

00:19:55.240 He always played 1.00

00:19:55.980 the dumb guy 1.00

00:19:56.480 in the room. 1.00

00:19:57.600 Anytime the microphone

00:19:58.400 was put on

00:19:59.040 and he wasn't put

00:19:59.800 on the spot

00:20:00.360 or anytime he was

00:20:01.140 in the green room

00:20:02.140 somewhere

00:20:02.580 he always played 1.00

00:20:03.320 the dumb guy 1.00

00:20:03.860 although he was 1.00

00:20:05.380 the smartest guy

00:20:05.960 in the room.

00:20:07.180 He always played 1.00

00:20:07.820 the dumb guy 1.00

00:20:08.340 because he had 1.00

00:20:09.140 that same kind

00:20:09.700 of opinion.

00:20:10.400 It's not why

00:20:10.880 we're hired.

00:20:11.820 We're hired

00:20:12.400 to make people laugh

00:20:13.300 not spew out

00:20:14.780 our opinion.

00:20:15.900 Yeah.

00:20:16.220 I think that

00:20:16.860 that's where

00:20:18.000 I think we all

00:20:18.460 do agree.

00:20:18.960 A lot of opinionated

00:20:20.880 credibility

00:20:22.980 has been given

00:20:23.540 to comedians lately

00:20:24.500 and really

00:20:25.140 what I like best

00:20:26.880 about comedians

00:20:27.560 is that they say

00:20:28.220 something horrible

00:20:28.820 that makes me laugh

00:20:29.620 so hard

00:20:30.100 I can't feel my legs

00:20:31.100 for a half hour.

00:20:32.300 One of the most

00:20:33.420 openly criticized

00:20:34.620 comedians

00:20:35.440 in the world

00:20:35.900 right now

00:20:36.420 literally just stood up

00:20:38.160 for his belief system

00:20:39.880 on this

00:20:40.300 and said

00:20:40.700 stop calling me

00:20:41.660 and doubling

00:20:42.060 the money

00:20:42.580 because I'll

00:20:43.360 eventually take it

00:20:44.200 I'd rather you

00:20:44.640 just lose my number.

00:20:45.680 Shane Gillis.

00:20:46.280 Shane Gillis.

00:20:47.120 I guess they called him

00:20:47.920 they doubled it

00:20:48.640 he said no

00:20:49.380 they doubled that number

00:20:50.520 he said no

00:20:51.140 they doubled it again

00:20:52.000 and he said

00:20:52.280 lose my number

00:20:53.020 he can't

00:20:53.980 he can't call me anymore

00:20:54.960 because eventually

00:20:55.600 I will say yes.

00:20:57.480 Yeah.

00:20:58.340 Yeah.

00:20:58.800 So is that the stance

00:20:59.980 that you think

00:21:01.080 that comedians

00:21:01.680 should have taken

00:21:02.320 or do you think

00:21:02.920 that they should

00:21:03.420 like if you were

00:21:04.320 if you were the end all

00:21:05.960 be all

00:21:06.360 and your opinion

00:21:06.920 is the only thing

00:21:07.560 that mattered

00:21:08.040 Mike

00:21:08.400 just because we're

00:21:09.140 on your show

00:21:10.700 would you rather be

00:21:11.580 in the category

00:21:12.160 of the Shane Gillis

00:21:13.000 these people

00:21:13.680 be in that category

00:21:14.680 or would you rather

00:21:15.200 just go out

00:21:15.720 and get their bag

00:21:16.380 and stop everybody

00:21:17.940 judging them

00:21:18.520 like what do you think

00:21:19.860 or is that too

00:21:21.040 you know I just

00:21:21.460 thought of something

00:21:22.060 when you asked me that

00:21:22.980 and maybe

00:21:24.080 this is like a stretch

00:21:26.340 right

00:21:26.700 but maybe

00:21:27.800 these people

00:21:28.440 going and reflecting

00:21:29.540 different values

00:21:31.520 in that country

00:21:32.220 could change

00:21:34.180 some things

00:21:34.760 not if they're

00:21:35.720 but they've been

00:21:36.160 signed an agreement

00:21:36.760 not to say certain things

00:21:37.860 so negative

00:21:40.640 that's probably true

00:21:42.400 ladies and gentlemen

00:21:43.260 our guest this week

00:21:44.360 was Mr. Cross

00:21:45.400 and

00:21:46.160 Mr. David Cross

00:21:47.780 I just had to double up

00:21:48.640 that mic joke

00:21:49.380 just because that

00:21:50.380 was a perfect answer

00:21:51.260 Nick

00:21:51.540 yeah no I get that

00:21:53.280 it really was a good answer

00:21:54.040 I get that

00:21:54.660 right

00:21:55.040 I think that

00:21:56.780 maybe

00:21:58.040 it wasn't time

00:22:00.180 for the Riyadh

00:22:00.720 Comedy Festival

00:22:01.520 to

00:22:01.900 I mean

00:22:02.820 is it just

00:22:03.500 American comedians

00:22:04.420 by the way

00:22:04.780 I see a list

00:22:05.260 of American comedians

00:22:06.260 and of course

00:22:07.080 Jimmy Carter

00:22:07.600 Russell

00:22:07.680 Russell

00:22:08.520 now American

00:22:10.600 Julio

00:22:12.360 Iglesias

00:22:12.840 I didn't even

00:22:13.400 know he did comedy

00:22:14.140 well they had

00:22:16.980 a Saudi comedian

00:22:17.540 but his head fell off

00:22:18.460 oh

00:22:19.420 wow

00:22:22.480 if we made it

00:22:24.460 that far

00:22:25.200 you know what

00:22:26.020 it was almost

00:22:26.420 the end of the show

00:22:27.080 and you might have

00:22:27.660 noticed a really

00:22:28.260 rough cut just now

00:22:29.280 and that

00:22:29.940 that was caused

00:22:31.400 by Nick

00:22:32.180 right there

00:22:33.900 very funny joke

00:22:35.460 and you know what

00:22:36.140 we'll see you next year

00:22:37.400 at the Riyadh Comedy Festival

00:22:38.580 I think that one's 0.99

00:22:40.340 gonna kill 0.99

00:22:40.740 look 0.99

00:22:42.200 share your opinion

00:22:43.700 tell us what you think

00:22:44.760 by the way

00:22:45.500 to all the comedians

00:22:46.200 that I listed

00:22:46.680 and made fun of today

00:22:47.580 the ones that I forgot

00:22:48.580 were Mark Norman

00:22:49.560 not great

00:22:50.080 Chris DiStefano

00:22:51.980 I don't know

00:22:52.900 Kennedy

00:22:53.300 I like Norman

00:22:55.220 I'm just kidding

00:22:56.520 I like them all

00:22:57.160 except for Kevin Hart

00:22:58.200 thank you for joining us

00:22:59.940 I even like him

00:23:00.700 comment
