00:00:00.000 I breathe, you breathe. Yeah, but do we do it right and do we do it with conscious effort? Are we
00:00:07.080 breathing for good health? Today we're going to find out more about breathing as we bring in a
00:00:13.260 guru about breathing, breath work, and managing better health and happiness through breathing.
00:00:20.940 Now we try to come up with a name for today's episode. Brady, producer Brady, what's your
00:00:26.780 suggestion? My suggestion is squeezing the shaman. Don't squeeze the shaman. I don't know if I like
00:00:34.340 the title, but you're going to like this and I guarantee you'll feel better at the end of today's
00:00:38.440 episode for having been here. Here we go. There he is, ladies and gentlemen, in the flesh, well remote
00:00:50.400 to me, but glad he is. Jake Breathe, how are you? Hey, doing good, man. How's it going? Good. I
00:00:56.760 appreciate you taking the time to talk to us today. And I'll be honest with you. I don't think
00:01:01.560 you've ever met a better candidate for needing to breathe deeper and in a more healthy way. But I
00:01:09.420 think I'm probably not the only one in this era who really needs to kind of take a moment and focus on
00:01:17.220 breathing. Now, listen, before we get going, I have some preconceived notions that maybe many other
00:01:24.340 people have about breathing. And the first is, yeah, I do it all day long. I don't think I do it
00:01:31.740 consciously. And then the other thing is that breathing is something that people think they
00:01:37.620 only need to do in moments of anxiety, moments of pressure, sadness, depression, when really I think
00:01:46.720 that there's probably more to it. Am I off base with some of those assumptions?
00:01:52.980 No, you're right on. And that's the thing. It's like we wait until it gets to like everything's
00:01:57.020 there. Now we breathe. But it's like if you're conscious with your breath throughout the day,
00:02:00.220 you won't have that huge buildup, right? You won't have a panic attack if you're conscious of
00:02:04.620 the breath throughout the day. I've noticed in some of the reading that I've done and, you know,
00:02:11.220 I have the benefit of being married to a psychotherapist who, you know, often does the
00:02:17.440 research on breathing and is, you know, big into spiritual awareness from within. And so I hear a
00:02:24.600 lot of this, but I am the husband. What I have noticed in a lot of mysticism, a lot of religion,
00:02:32.560 ritualistic practice and healing, there's a lot of illustrations that demonstrate the
00:02:40.740 lungs, the heart connecting to the mind and then the spirit. You see this
00:02:46.660 circular or circulation of energy that comes through. Now, that's about as hippie as I can
00:02:54.120 get on this, but it is something that I've noticed. And it was pointed out to me that that's not an
00:02:59.080 accident. For sure. The bridge, the bridge between the mind and the body is the breath. So like if we're
00:03:05.920 in this 3D realm, it's 3D humans, we have our names, you know, we have this whole thing. That's all
00:03:10.020 like, we're all heady that way, as I like to call it. When you connect to the body, that intuitive,
00:03:14.880 like, you know, it's like you're in a conversation or something doesn't feel right. Or you're like,
00:03:18.400 you have that gut instinct. That's the body, man. That's, I would say that's 5D. That's higher than
00:03:23.400 just this, this realm, right? That's the connection to earth. So that really helps anchor between that,
00:03:27.940 that mindset. So you're not just a airy fairy, hippy dippy, whatever. It brings the groundedness to
00:03:33.380 that, that next level. So yeah, it's a beautiful practice.
00:03:36.840 Okay. So let's talk about what breath work is and, uh, you know, how people can benefit from it.
00:03:43.940 Who benefits from it?
00:03:45.920 Everyone, man. Like there's so many breath work, such a loaded term, right? Like there's so many
00:03:49.340 different kinds. There's like just super simple, like just to calm down, just to get grounded,
00:03:56.720 just to anchor. And then there's what I teach, which is more of a transformational breath work,
00:04:00.280 like you've talked about the deeper where you're like activating a DMT. It's called dimethyltryptamine
00:04:07.600 produced in the, in the brain. It's what makes you dream at night. It's a, it's also produced
00:04:11.540 mostly in the lungs. So through these ancient breathing techniques, you're activating that,
00:04:15.500 that DMT from within and having like potential hallucinogenic experiences, full on visions,
00:04:21.100 strictly with breath, right? You don't need to take the mushrooms or the eye and be out of your
00:04:25.960 control. It's still something that you're controlling, but coming through you. So yeah,
00:04:30.280 it helps everyone on many different levels.
00:04:33.020 That's worth focusing on. There are a lot of ways that people are treating themselves.
00:04:37.540 Ayahuasca, DMT, by the way, DMT is the chemical that's released in your body at the moment of
00:04:43.160 death or in the, in that area. And Graham Hancock would tell you that it's the spirit molecule that
00:04:50.060 connects us to God. So that is a, that is in itself a little bit of a, a bit of education from
00:04:56.520 the world of spirituality and mysticism that seems to connect this chemical that's in all of us,
00:05:02.480 uh, to the spirit realm or to, you know, connection to the universe. Um, and now you're saying,
00:05:10.460 okay, so DMT, that's one option, of course. And, uh, we did an episode not so long ago about, uh,
00:05:16.160 psychedelics and medicine, uh, uh, psilocybin and, and, uh, DMT was one of those, uh, ayahuasca in
00:05:23.040 that group as well. This, and, and all of those seem to put you out of your personal control,
00:05:29.440 your physical control at that moment. Ayahuasca makes you very sick. DMT makes you trip. Uh,
00:05:36.000 uh, mushrooms may do the same thing to you. What you're talking about here then is this has the same
00:05:42.120 sort of chemical effects on you without having that loss of control chemically from an outside
00:05:49.520 substance. It totally can. And it's funny because even the breath, there's a sense of,
00:05:54.020 it's not loss of control, but like a sense of surrender because you can sit there the whole
00:05:57.740 time. But if you're like, if you're still holding in the mind, like, Oh, I'm Jake sitting here
00:06:03.520 breathing. I'm going to, and you're just focused on that anchor point. You're, you're not going to
00:06:07.460 have this release or this experience. There's a, there's a surrender that needs to happen where,
00:06:12.180 yes, you're breathing, but that's it. You're no longer the watcher. Like what's coming next? Oh,
00:06:16.980 I'm breathing. Am I going to trip? Is this going to have, there's like a, there's something called
00:06:20.820 the double slit theory, the double slit experiment. I don't know if you're, you're aware of that where
00:06:24.540 energy acts differently when it's observed. So these, I've heard about this. Yeah. They've proven this
00:06:30.820 is true. They shoot, they shoot particle waves and it should, it should go in a straight line. And when
00:06:35.700 they're looking at it, it does when they don't examine it, it go like it splits like a wave,
00:06:40.020 which makes no sense, breaks all physics and dah, dah, dah. And then they go back to watching it.
00:06:44.320 And it's like, they try to trick it with a camera. They're like, all right, we won't film the camera
00:06:48.000 until after it. And then it just isn't straight line. And the way I put that is like, if you've
00:06:51.800 ever seen a kid do something interesting or cool or like, or even you yourself, you do something
00:06:55.540 Hey, do that again. Let me film it instantly. You're like, like, you can't replicate it. You know,
00:07:01.420 you're being watched. Like, yeah. Yeah. So there's something weird about that.
00:07:05.820 So you have to surrender that moment genuinely is what you're saying. Okay. I'm not doing breath
00:07:11.460 work for a virtue signaling or, uh, because somebody is going to witness me or that I'm
00:07:18.320 even witnessing myself with an ego. You just need to do the breath work to make it work on
00:07:23.220 the in and the out and the in and the out. And then from there, next thing you know, you're already
00:07:26.880 like, you're able to get away from that, that kind of chained in feeling of the humanness.
00:07:32.660 Uh, what kind of, uh, breath work, give me some examples of different kinds of breath work and you
00:07:37.640 can demonstrate them if you want. And, uh, uh, you know, I, I'd like to tell you that I would
00:07:42.780 participate with you, but my shame and ego may not let me, but what I would do is encourage you to
00:07:48.960 maybe share with us a couple of things that might work. Totally. The two main ones that I use,
00:07:55.320 the first ones like the pump up. So I say you're, you're filling your vehicle, right? You're at the
00:07:59.440 gas station, you're charging up. So that's a big belly into the chest. I've kind of steered away
00:08:04.800 from the two part and just one big breath just to simplify it. Wim Hof, Wim Hof method. I don't know.
00:08:10.320 Wim Hof, I've heard. Yes. So he, he's belly chest. So
00:08:12.940 that's nice. And it's structured. What I like to teach is one big
00:08:21.940 no pause between we do that for about 35 minutes to really activate the system. We then move into
00:08:32.260 what's called mother wave, slow, gentle breath. You can go in through the nose, out through the
00:08:36.760 mouth. And that's used to kind of go on the journey. You've harnessed the prana, the energy,
00:08:45.500 the chi up with the big breath. And you kind of like let that anchor it in. Holotropic breathing
00:08:51.660 is very similar to what I just discussed. There's also a breath wave is another thing. There's many
00:08:58.400 different names, but it's all kind of the same stuff. The one you showed me at the beginning
00:09:01.820 when you said you're in traffic, there's something similar to that. It's called the breath of fire.
00:09:06.320 So it's all done through the nose and it's pumping the diaphragm. And it's like
00:09:09.500 so you'll do some like big, full, like, and then to like really get that energy, like up,
00:09:18.980 you do the, the, the, um, breath of fire. And then you can bring a root lock in. So you're
00:09:26.020 squeezing basically the pelvic floor and it's bringing energy, as you said, up the spine,
00:09:31.000 up into the third eye. You can squeeze the gut. You can squeeze the throat. And these are all
00:09:35.560 where like meridian points are in the body. You can say chakras, your chakra system,
00:09:39.340 energy stored in each one of those points. So through the, like, bringing up of that energy,
00:09:45.160 you can start to unlock certain codes in the body. It's crazy. There you go. Try some of those.
00:09:51.080 Yeah, many different ones to try. Let's get a bit into you and breath work overall.
00:09:58.200 Where did breath work start? Is this a new thing? Is this a new discovery to humanity? Or is this
00:10:03.700 something we've been doing through the ages? Yeah. Ancient, super ancient. A lot of these
00:10:08.180 techniques are, I mean, modern twists put on them for sure. But all the ancient texts,
00:10:12.140 it goes right back to breath. Um, how I found it, I didn't, I heard ayahuasca. I heard DMT. It was
00:10:18.220 all came through Joe Rogan. And I was like, that sounds cool. Sign me up. I want to trip out. That
00:10:22.340 sounds awesome. He had a float tank is what he talked about or whatever. So we started at the float
00:10:27.380 center. And from the float center, there was actually, after we went to the float center, there was a
00:10:32.120 poster, a shamanic meet and greet. And it mentioned, I learned about ayahuasca. I was like,
00:10:36.440 it's too good to be true. So I showed up to this, this ayahuasca, like meet and greet. It was with
00:10:42.380 a shaman. It was, it was super interesting. Told us all the story about working in Peru for the last
00:10:46.700 five years and how he got there. All of it. And at the end of the session, there's a group of them
00:10:52.700 talking in the corner, kind of like whispering. I heard ayahuasca ceremony. So I'm like, I think it's 22 at
00:10:58.400 the time. I just come walking out and go, I'd like to be a part of that sign. And the shaman, I
00:11:02.480 remember he just like turns and looks at me and like, just like the okay, young grasshopper, like
00:11:07.280 just like the hold, hold on there type thing. He's like, you ever done breathing before? Yeah. All
00:11:13.220 this every day. What do you mean? I breathe all day long, dude. Yeah. Talking about they're like, no,
00:11:18.180 come to this session. Like if you want to do ayahuasca, like you like come do breath. This is kind of
00:11:22.160 like your entry level. All right, whatever. So that weekend I show up first time ever at a yoga studio,
00:11:27.580 completely out of place. I'm skater, rapper, baggy clothes, whatever. They're all tight yoga pants
00:11:32.380 and acting prim and proper. You know how yogis can be. And I show up there and lay down. I paid my
00:11:38.640 60 bucks or whatever it was. And she tells us, okay, you're going to be breathing into your chest
00:11:42.340 and letting go. And you may feel, I'm like, I just paid 60 bucks to get told how to like, really? This
00:11:48.400 is the thing. Like, anyway, so I lay back. I'm telling you, man, 15 minutes, not even 15,
00:11:53.900 it's like 10 minutes into this through the, there's electricity, like coming out of my hands.
00:12:01.660 Like my whole like system was coming online. I started to cry, but there was, I wasn't sad. It was
00:12:07.600 just, just like started coming out. And the weight off my chest was like coming out from the cry coming
00:12:15.940 out of my arms. And it's like, I just feel the energy coming off of me. At one point, it was right
00:12:21.860 after I was crying, the one dude started to laugh in the corner. And my mind just, I'm like,
00:12:26.880 how dare you laugh at me crying? My pain? Is this a joke? And I just got in this whole mind thing of,
00:12:33.680 and then I caught myself and go, Jake, this isn't about you. Like that guy's having his own experience.
00:12:37.640 He's laughing. So I started to laugh about like my seriousness over my pain. And then that rippled
00:12:42.940 into someone else laughing. And the whole room ended up in this like laughter, but from the breath
00:12:47.880 and the energy, like they say laughter is the best medicine. This like, I can describe
00:12:52.020 it as like chunks, like chunks of rocks that are like held in the body. We're just like
00:12:56.120 melting and releasing through the body. Like it was, it was profound. At one point, my hands
00:13:01.300 fully locked. I couldn't open them whatsoever. Come to find out it's something called technique.
00:13:06.480 It's again, your energetic pathways opening up. This was all my very first session. And I was,
00:13:11.260 I was hooked. I talked to the facilitator. I was like, where did you get trained? Some lady in Alberta.
00:13:15.800 Four or five months later, I flew up to Alberta, got trained. I've been, I've been in it ever
00:13:19.880 since. That was 2017. And so how long have you been doing this now? Because you look 27 now.
00:13:25.580 Oh yeah. I'm 31. It's since I was, yeah, since 2017, when I got certified, I've been,
00:13:30.000 I've been doing it ever since. And then also doing, I'm so sorry. Oh, it's all good. I was doing
00:13:36.060 apprenticeship with that shaman. So the shaman that said, do the breath work. I did that. And then we did
00:13:40.560 ayahuasca. And then, yeah, that's a whole other story. But he basically chose me to be his apprentice
00:13:46.180 because the way I handled the medicine, I went from not knowing anything, man, like not even
00:13:50.020 believing this to like fully into it, like completely, like I can't, you can't deny this
00:13:55.300 when it happens to you. You can't deny that it's real. So I just, I went full on into that. And that's
00:14:01.060 been my path ever since really. And what kind of people are you helping with this or what people
00:14:05.980 are seeking you out? All walks of life, man. Like even last night, I just did a workshop and I had
00:14:11.520 22 year old teen that's looking to dive deeper into his spirituality. And I had a 65 year old lady
00:14:18.900 that's trying to heal from some grief. So it's like, it's, it's, it's so when they say like define
00:14:24.460 your, your ideal client to market. And I'm like, I don't have one, right? I put out my vibration and
00:14:30.720 whoever is attracted kind of comes in. How did people find out about you anyway?
00:14:35.680 I noticed that you have a pretty active Instagram.
00:14:40.160 Yeah, it's not huge, but I put my stuff out on Instagram. Word of mouth is a big one. Honestly,
00:14:44.260 like people have massive experiences and tell people. And the next thing I know their friends
00:14:47.760 are wanting to come in or a partner or something like that. But I need to get more on my social
00:14:52.000 game with the TikTok and the audience. It just doesn't feel authentic to me. So it's,
00:14:55.740 you know what? I'll be honest with you, Jake. I meet you now. And I think,
00:15:00.280 please don't let social media envelop this beautiful spirit.
00:15:05.680 Uh, so this is maybe a good way for people to find out more about you.
00:15:10.440 What are the, what are some of the benefits that you see that people are having,
00:15:13.880 you know, once they get into the breath work and it's actually taken hold,
00:15:18.980 what kind of changes are you seeing in people's lives or even in your own?
00:15:23.160 So I started, when I first started, I got my office, I was working with a psychotherapist.
00:15:27.200 So she was like 24 and five years in the game and I was 23 or four years old and we were working
00:15:33.940 off each other. So I'd have a client that, you know, they would have a massive breakthrough and
00:15:39.040 they'd be talking to me about all this stuff. And at the time I couldn't really like handle
00:15:41.880 that. So I would send them over to her. And likewise, she would have a patient that she's
00:15:46.260 seen for the last three years that hasn't made any, you know, real change because they're still stuck
00:15:52.200 in their story would come over to me and it would break them out of everything because so that's
00:15:57.440 to answer your question. That's the thing. It's like it, it removed the ego, right? The word ego,
00:16:01.980 we hear that so much, but like the story of my name's Jake, I was this, this happened to me. I
00:16:06.160 had this problem. Like, yes, all that's true. But when you can come up and out and see it from a
00:16:12.300 bird's eye view and see what really is that you're not just this one identity or this one person,
00:16:18.020 so much changes. Like I said, I was so serious about my pain and my anger and my, how could you
00:16:23.920 laugh? And they're like, wait, what the fuck is it about me? He's having his own, like, it just
00:16:28.020 gives you that higher perspective to see things on a new level.
00:16:32.940 You're not just a shaman. By the way, Brady's, I can't remember whose idea it was. Somebody's idea
00:16:38.940 for the title of this episode is don't squeeze the shaman. But the first chance I get to give you a hug,
00:16:45.500 I promise you're getting squeezed. Heck yeah. Because you've got a great vibe and I'm sure
00:16:50.140 people are enjoying this. But there's more to you as well. You're not just this breathing guru. You
00:16:55.740 are also, like, you have a music career. Yeah, that's where it started, man. 13 years old,
00:17:02.020 I started hip hop, rhyming words, and yeah, it's a lot of fun. What does your music do that relates to
00:17:08.980 your spirituality? I mean, I don't, I don't see you out there talking about guns and money and top
00:17:17.160 of the heap. What do you, what do you do with your, with your rap? It's all a journal, man. Like,
00:17:23.160 if you look back at all my, I look back at all my stuff and I read it, it's all a journal through
00:17:26.880 my spiritual development, through things I've learned, through stupid mistakes I've made thinking
00:17:32.620 I know it all year two as a breathwork guru. I've done ayahuasca six times. I like seeing those bars
00:17:38.200 come through, right? Like, yeah, it's a beautiful life experience, like era, like a look back of my
00:17:44.260 life experience, basically. I can't make songs for the people. The thing where it's like, make it for
00:17:49.980 the people. What do the people want? It's like, I don't fucking, what do I want to say? That's kind
00:17:53.900 of where I come in with that. Yeah.
00:17:55.200 No, I could understand. That sounds like it's totally on brand for you. If there is a brand
00:18:02.280 for you is that you will just do what you, you feel is natural and right. And people will
00:18:07.760 gravitate toward that. What do you think it is that makes people gravitate finally to trying to
00:18:14.300 make change like this in their life? If they're smart because they, they see an opening and they
00:18:21.440 want to take it. If they're like me, it's because they smashed the head on the wall. So many times
00:18:26.760 they're like, Hey, there isn't a door here. Hold on. Let me try one more time. Okay. Yeah,
00:18:30.180 no, it's not a door. Eventually you got to find another way. Right. And then something like that
00:18:35.480 presents itself with the float studio within the shamanic meet and greet poster. And that like,
00:18:40.140 how many stories have I heard where people, you know, I don't know that. And then they say yes to
00:18:44.940 one thing. And then from there, they meet the guy. And then that happened. And then over,
00:18:47.880 like, it's so interesting how it can open up. It's a literal physical proof that we are all
00:18:55.200 connected, isn't it? And people say it's a small world. That's a small universe. I think probably if
00:19:00.780 we, if we look at it, Jake, where can people find out more about you, your workshops, how they can
00:19:06.000 connect with you to become a client? Tell us all that stuff. I think that's important.
00:19:10.200 At Jake breathe on Instagram or at lungs of love on Instagram. Those are, those are my two main ones.
00:19:16.120 Basically. Jake, thanks, man. I really appreciate your time today. I hope people take advantage of
00:19:21.240 getting to know you and understanding breath work better, uh, to make change in their life that makes
00:19:26.400 a big difference. Thank you. Appreciate you having me.
