00:00:30.000 In regards to the real ID mandates, you'll get some folks that will criticize and say, oh, my God, I don't want to do real ID, you know, surveillance.
00:00:40.160 The state's watching everything I'm doing and, you know, they'll criticize it.
00:00:44.340 Why would we do this? Why should we do this?
00:00:46.080 That's already happened in many different states.
00:00:47.820 We all have that logo that's already on there.
00:00:50.000 What do you say to critics when they criticize the real ID mandates?
00:00:55.620 Well, real ID has been law for over 20 years.
00:00:59.000 I was just the first secretary that actually implemented it, actually said that we were going to enforce it.
00:01:05.840 And what it does is give you an opportunity to prove you really are who you are and that you have legal status in this country, that you should be here and that you have the ability to do it.
00:01:15.840 So under TSA, which I have under the Department of Homeland Security, we implemented it at our airlines.
00:01:22.120 And it's amazing, Patrick.
00:01:24.320 We have over 90 percent compliance.
00:01:26.780 I think the last time I checked, 94% compliance with that, which means they can use their real ID when they get their ticket and check in through the security checkpoints, or they can use their passport, they can use a tribal or military ID.
00:01:39.360 But we want to know that when we're talking to an individual, when they're flying on our airlines, that they are who they say they are, and that we make sure that they're not using an ID that would be falsified.
00:01:49.400 So while many years leaders didn't have the fortitude to enforce the law, when President Trump said we're going to be a nation of laws, we meant it.
00:01:59.300 And here at the Department of Homeland Security, we followed through on implementing that law and making sure that people recognized that we took our security as a number one priority.
00:02:11.040 You know, a lot of times those questions like what you were talking about, people don't like the biometrics being mandated.
00:02:17.300 I hear some pushback on that, but we don't have those mandated at the department or for the federal government.
00:02:22.980 That's optional at some of those security programs, if people want to participate in it, to speed up the identifications.
00:02:30.700 But it has not been mandated under my leadership or President Trump's.
00:02:34.420 The question becomes, it's not whether they trust you or not.
00:02:38.120 It's who's coming next.
00:02:40.000 And at what measures can they take it?
00:02:41.960 You know, they'll look at Palantir and a movie came out recently called Mercy with Chris Pratt.
00:02:48.040 I don't know if you've seen it.
00:02:48.920 I don't know if you have time to watch movies.
00:02:50.860 If you have a chance to go see a movie, it's worth watching because it's about how in the future AI takes over and the judge becomes an AI person.
00:02:58.420 You sit in front of him and you have 90 minutes to plead to her while you're not guilty.
00:03:02.700 So some people are worried about what happens if a Palantir gets too deep into the system.
00:03:08.260 And, you know, that's a concern that comes up.
