00:00:00.000 We did have one incident where Kobe was playing very well.
00:00:04.680 He was getting under my skin.
00:00:06.200 Phil Jackson was getting under my skin.
00:00:08.500 And then I was telling the team, I said, you know, last year,
00:00:12.360 if Yao Ming didn't break his foot, I said, we would have beat all of y'all.
00:00:16.920 Right?
00:00:17.480 And then Phil was like, calm down, Ronnie.
00:00:19.500 And I'm like, we not calming down until I say we calm.
00:00:22.480 I was just disrupting him.
00:00:24.320 You're saying this to Phil Jackson.
00:00:25.500 Yeah, yeah.
00:00:26.120 But Phil can take heat.
00:00:28.020 Because Phil gives heat, by the way.
00:00:29.220 And Phil gives heat.
00:00:31.220 And he can take it.
00:00:32.480 One of the few coaches that can take it.
00:00:33.900 A lot of coaches can't take what Phil can take.
00:00:35.720 So you're saying this.
00:00:36.780 So he says, calm down, Ronnie.
00:00:38.260 What is Kobe saying?
00:00:39.580 Kobe's just watching.
00:00:40.920 Because I think what was happening, too, Kobe wanted to –
00:00:43.740 I think I came to practice one day, but I wasn't as –
00:00:45.820 What year is this?
00:00:46.520 What's the –
00:00:47.180 This is 2010.
00:00:48.180 I want to know who the roster is.
00:00:49.300 Keep going.
00:00:49.680 I'm listening.
00:00:50.060 Yes, I think, like, I came to practice, but maybe I wasn't as intense.
00:00:53.400 And I think Kobe wanted to push my button.
00:00:55.580 Because Kobe, I seen him snickering in the back when I was going at Phil.
00:00:58.560 And he was like –
00:01:00.260 So I think Kobe was, like, actually –
00:01:02.840 Enjoying the process.
00:01:03.820 Yeah, enjoying the process.
00:01:05.520 But that was the only day where, like, you know, where we addressed –
00:01:09.380 I just got – I just came from the Rockets, and now I'm here.
00:01:12.040 We never talked about that.
00:01:13.160 They beat us, but we was the only team to take them to seven.
00:01:15.160 They went through everybody that year.
00:01:18.580 You know, the championship game was the Rockets versus the Lakers, basically.
00:01:21.880 That year.
00:01:22.220 Yeah, I mean, listen.
00:01:23.280 If it was a different story, yeah.
00:01:24.820 So you're saying this to Phil.
00:01:26.640 You're saying Phil also knows how to bring the heat.
00:01:28.480 Yeah, Phil brings heat.
00:01:28.900 I talked to Shaq one time where, you know, Shaq and Kobe –
00:01:33.220 I'm asking both of them about the relationship with Phil.
00:01:36.900 And there's a story once I read about the fact that Shaq sat both of them down
00:01:41.360 and said, hey, you guys think you guys got a big ego?
00:01:43.680 I got a bigger ego than both of you guys have combined, right?
00:01:46.120 Saying something like that.
00:01:47.020 And whether that happened or not, who knows.
00:01:48.380 What was different about his style of leadership than other coaches you had?
00:01:53.680 You know, Phil – I mean, he's an energy guy.
00:01:58.240 He's a Buddhist.
00:01:59.120 He's Zen master.
00:02:00.640 He's an energy guy.
00:02:02.700 And I think a lot of the times he's just – he's nurturing your energy.
00:02:09.460 He's centering your energy.
00:02:12.520 You know, he has a plate, a triangle.
00:02:14.800 But the triangle is nothing but a set.
00:02:16.260 The triangle is nothing but staying in your spot.
00:02:19.080 And he's on – you see Phil, he's just sitting there the whole time.
00:02:21.920 Where all the coaches are like, hey, go here, go here, go here.
00:02:24.980 So Phil's letting you get out of your own issues.
00:02:27.120 He's letting you solve your own problems.
00:02:29.100 Yeah, he wasn't the guy that would say, time out, let's go, boom, boom.
00:02:32.220 No.
00:02:32.920 And it would say, you'd watch the game.
00:02:34.680 And the opposition would score six points back to back to back.
00:02:38.420 Yeah.
00:02:38.900 And you would hear – what's his name?
00:02:41.060 The old guy, Chick Hearn, you know, or whoever it was, Stu Lance.
00:02:44.220 Because I used to live in L.A., so I would –
00:02:46.000 Broadcasters.
00:02:47.000 Broadcasters, yeah.
00:02:47.640 Color commentators.
00:02:48.280 And he would say, Phil is not even getting up.
00:02:50.340 Why don't you just sit there and just watch him as he's like –
00:02:51.980 is he even thinking about it?
00:02:53.040 He would let you fail.
00:02:54.700 Yes.
00:02:55.960 He'll sit there.
00:02:56.560 And you know what?
00:02:56.980 If you lost by 30, go into the locker room and go back to practice.
00:03:01.940 But he's kind of putting that accountability on you, which is really unique.
00:03:08.360 But how would he do it?
00:03:09.200 What do you say here?
00:03:09.780 So how do you – would he go in the locker room and say,
00:03:11.880 so how do you guys feel about the loss?
00:03:13.420 So what do you think happened?
00:03:14.340 Or was it kind of like, all right, guys, we'll see you at practice tomorrow?
00:03:16.540 What was –
00:03:17.480 I'm not going to say he was like babying us,
00:03:19.840 but he definitely was pointing out the mistakes.
00:03:23.260 But he was always trying to strengthen our center.
00:03:26.240 How do we do that?
00:03:26.740 So we meditate, turn off all the lights, bring sage in the locker room,
00:03:31.740 you know, center breathe together, you know, sit up straight in your chair,
00:03:37.460 close your eyes, relax your jaws, relax your – so he was like always empowering you.
00:03:43.200 He wasn't beating you down.
00:03:44.620 With the exception of he'll say little things to get under –
00:03:46.660 he has something for everybody where he can get under your skin.
00:03:48.720 Like what?
00:03:49.100 Like give me an example.
00:03:49.780 He called me cement feet.
00:03:50.920 When he called me cement feet, that made me upset.
00:03:53.100 Cement feet?
00:03:54.200 Yeah, he used to call – I had these big shoes.
00:03:56.120 I had a deal with another company.
00:03:57.800 Not a Nike, not an Adidas.
00:03:59.000 I had another company, and they were big.
00:04:01.440 But I did it because it was a deal.
00:04:03.240 So I just signed a contract, wore the shoes.
00:04:05.760 And, yeah, it wasn't the greatest-looking shoe.
00:04:07.700 Cement feet?
00:04:08.380 So, you know, Kobe's playing in Nikes.
00:04:11.020 I'm playing in these big blocks.
00:04:13.140 Which one is it?
00:04:13.980 The ones in the championship.
00:04:14.880 I got them on in the finals.
00:04:16.080 So the one you won in, you wore the cement feet in game seven.
00:04:20.280 Cement feet was definitely in game seven for sure. 1.00
00:04:23.060 Oh, shit. 0.97
00:04:23.880 It's not these ones. 0.99
00:04:25.120 These are some other ones I had throughout the years.
00:04:28.240 When's the last time?
00:04:28.920 Oh, there they go right there.
00:04:30.480 That's the one?
00:04:32.120 Who was the shoe company?
00:04:33.820 It was a company out of China called Peak.
00:04:38.180 They should have let me design my own shoe.
00:04:39.720 I couldn't believe they didn't let me design my own shoe, but it's another story.
00:04:42.880 So if he called you cement feet, what did he call the other guys?
00:04:45.860 Yeah, I forget what he had for the other guys.
00:04:48.280 He had something for Kobe, too.
00:04:49.740 Really?
00:04:50.640 100%.
00:04:50.960 So would he get under Kobe's skin or he couldn't get under Kobe's skin?
00:04:53.940 For Kobe, he'd leave him on the bench a little longer.
00:04:57.260 You know?
00:04:58.320 Like he didn't have to say anything.
00:04:59.520 He was like, this is your punishment.
00:05:00.500 An extra 30 seconds, a minute on the bench.
00:05:02.880 I don't know why he would do it, but Kobe's like, Kobe looking down at Phil with that face.
00:05:08.280 Laser eyes.
00:05:08.940 That face.
00:05:10.380 You know, his mouth.
00:05:12.600 This part turned to a bear, like a bear.
00:05:16.460 Mamba.
00:05:17.060 This part turned to the mamba.
00:05:18.980 And Phil's just like, you know, you're going to stay there.
00:05:22.020 I know you're supposed to check it now, but we're going to give you three more minutes over there.
00:05:25.100 Kobe be pissed.
00:05:26.040 What happened with Sasha Vujicic?
00:05:28.860 Was there a fight between him and Kobe?
00:05:30.960 Like one thing.
00:05:31.760 Yeah, definitely.
00:05:32.340 Because Kobe was saying something and he's elbowing him and Sasha's got.
00:05:35.140 I've seen that clip.
00:05:36.020 I don't know where that clip is.
00:05:37.100 Yeah, Sasha.
00:05:38.040 Because Sasha is a strong person.
00:05:40.560 Like that whole team was full of dogs.
00:05:42.140 You remind me of Indiana team. 1.00
00:05:43.860 So everybody on that team was, you know, pretty much psycho.
00:05:48.100 Like Sasha, Bynum, me.
00:05:51.100 You know, Powell's a nice guy, but Powell can get really aggressive and into it.
00:05:55.300 You can see it in his face.
00:05:57.080 You know, obviously Lamar and Josh Powell, people that you don't see a lot.
00:06:01.020 Josh Powell.
00:06:01.400 Wow.
00:06:01.860 Shannon Brown.
00:06:02.440 That's right.
00:06:03.160 Shannon Brown.
00:06:04.260 Luke Walton.
00:06:05.460 Luke Walton.
00:06:05.980 Fisher.
00:06:06.580 Fisher's different.
00:06:07.380 Fisher's not going to be rah-rah, but Fisher's not playing no games, you know?
00:06:10.380 He's a little bit different.
00:06:11.280 And so Sasha, you say something to Sasha, he's bringing, he's coming right back at you.
00:06:15.640 He don't care who it is.
00:06:17.480 You know, Sasha's got a lot of heart.
00:06:19.440 Adam Morrison. 0.98
00:06:20.320 Adam Morrison's probably the most psycho. 0.99
00:06:21.660 Morrison, Gonzaga. 1.00
00:06:22.560 The most psycho, probably. 0.99
00:06:24.140 Really? 0.94
00:06:24.480 Seriously?
00:06:24.860 He ain't taking no games.
00:06:25.840 Adam Morrison's not playing any games.
00:06:27.960 Seriously?
00:06:28.540 Oh, 100%.
00:06:29.360 Adam Morrison's not playing no games.
00:06:30.820 Are you joking?
00:06:31.620 No.
00:06:32.260 Adam actually, he should have, if it wasn't for those injuries, he was so good in practice.
00:06:37.100 But you had me, we had Kobe, with his injuries.
00:06:39.980 He's, if he doesn't get injured, you're talking about all-star multiple times. 0.99
00:06:44.420 No shit. 0.99
00:06:45.300 Yeah. 1.00
00:06:46.040 Wow.
00:06:46.580 Because you hear, yeah, you hear stories.
00:06:48.500 He's on the, I mean.
00:06:50.260 You've seen him in college?
00:06:50.760 He was college player of the year.
00:06:51.640 I remember. 0.59
00:06:52.520 He was, he was insane in college.
00:06:53.640 He was really good.
00:06:55.300 I wanted to know one thing about Phil.
00:06:57.200 When's the last time you interacted or even saw Phil Jackson?
00:06:59.860 I was on the phone with Phil last year when I went to go visit Carlisle, Indiana Paces.
00:07:06.320 Rick Carlisle, yeah.
00:07:07.080 And he had Phil on the phone.
00:07:09.100 That's the last time I spoke to Phil.
00:07:10.460 And I said, hey, Phil.
00:07:11.920 But I would also call Phil when I needed, like, coaching advice because I'm a coach.
00:07:14.860 So when I was coaching my high school girls or my college girls, I would call Phil and
00:07:18.780 just ask him about different things and if I'm thinking about it the right way.
00:07:22.580 Hey, what's up?
00:07:23.240 I'm Metal World Peace, the chairman of our test management group.
00:07:25.840 And now I am officially on my neck.
