00:00:00.000 Look, if you're a fan of basketball, if you're a fan of the NBA, if you're a fan of the Lakers,
00:00:20.840 obviously the greatest organization in the history of sports under Jerry Buss.
00:00:26.180 He had a player he drafted that ended up becoming five-time champion, Magic Johnson,
00:00:31.180 and who now, who now is the GM of the Lakers, brought on LeBron James.
00:00:35.660 I had a chance to sit down with him in front of a couple thousand people
00:00:38.100 and ask him a bunch of different questions about his upbringing to who he thinks is better, LeBron or Jordan.
00:00:43.380 It's going to be a very interesting way when he breaks down who his starting five would be
00:00:48.140 and as well as his career as an entrepreneur.
00:00:50.340 So with that being said, here's Magic Johnson.
00:00:52.000 I don't think you realize this, man.
00:00:53.680 I mean, I literally grew up glued to you.
00:00:56.700 I was glued to Magic Johnson.
00:00:58.280 I came to America.
00:00:59.860 You know, in Iran, we don't have any basketball.
00:01:01.560 In Iran, we don't play a lot of sports.
00:01:03.460 But I came.
00:01:05.080 I fell in love with the purple and gold, and I saw how excited you were and what you did to the entire game.
00:01:09.760 But before going into the NBA and talking some of that stuff and leadership and Jerry Buss and all that,
00:01:13.860 why don't we just kind of go back and talk about your story.
00:01:15.860 Like, who was Magic Johnson growing up?
00:01:18.180 Your family, brothers, siblings?
00:01:20.180 Are you from a big family?
00:01:21.220 Who were you in high school?
00:01:22.380 Maybe tell us a little about your story.
00:01:23.880 Well, Patrick, I'm definitely from a big family.
00:01:26.060 Six sisters and three brothers.
00:01:27.480 And my family, my dad and my mother, my dad worked three jobs to make sure that he could take care of his family.
00:01:37.700 My mother worked at the school cafeteria.
00:01:40.660 And, you know, we were just, we grew up poor, but there was a lot of love in the house.
00:01:46.840 And also, they stressed education.
00:01:49.440 And so, if I didn't get my grades, if I didn't do what I was supposed to do in school, then I couldn't play basketball.
00:01:56.980 I grew up in a sports family because my mom and dad both played sports, and then it got passed on to us.
00:02:04.880 Really? They both played sports?
00:02:06.040 Yeah. My dad played basketball, and he grew up in Mississippi.
00:02:10.600 My mother played, like, softball and all the sports, and she grew up in North Carolina.
00:02:16.020 And so, all my sisters played basketball, and they played softball like my mother.
00:02:21.440 And then my brothers, we all played basketball.
00:02:24.280 They're short, and I'm tall.
00:02:25.700 I don't know how that happened.
00:02:29.260 And I think I'm just like my parents.
00:02:33.580 I'm a hard worker like my father.
00:02:36.120 So, I'm glad he gave me that skill and that talent.
00:02:39.440 And I'm just like my mother.
00:02:41.620 I want to save the world, and my personality, I get from my mother.
00:02:45.320 How cool is that?
00:02:46.480 Yeah, very cool.
00:02:48.060 And all my sisters are teachers in the school system back in Michigan.
00:02:52.660 And so, thank you.
00:02:54.180 That's great.
00:02:54.860 And then my brothers, they all followed my father working for General Motors for 30 years.
00:03:00.720 Till today.
00:03:01.500 Till today.
00:03:02.140 Now, where are you in the family?
00:03:03.600 I'm number seven.
00:03:04.860 You're number seven.
00:03:05.840 Yeah, I'm the youngest boy, and then I'm number seven overall.
00:03:09.300 So, my brothers had to drag me everywhere.
00:03:12.020 You hate to be the youngest boy, because you had to go places that you didn't want to go,
00:03:17.340 and then you had to sit outside while they went and did their thing.
00:03:20.920 And then if I complained, they would smack me upside my head.
00:03:24.360 But it was a beautiful, beautiful family.
00:03:27.760 We're real close.
00:03:29.600 And so, now my mother got a lot of great-grands and grandchildren now, and it's beautiful.
00:03:34.560 What's the total now?
00:03:35.720 Ooh, about over 50.
00:03:37.820 Yeah.
00:03:38.480 That's so cool.
00:03:39.360 Yeah, yeah, because all of us got kids, and now our kids are having kids, so it's beautiful.
00:03:45.120 You guys are family reunions.
00:03:46.240 Does everybody get together every year?
00:03:47.540 Oh, yeah.
00:03:48.140 Every Thanksgiving, she wants everybody in the house, so that means everybody's sleeping on top of each other.
00:03:55.320 And nobody can stay outside the house.
00:03:58.320 You've got to stay together.
00:03:59.240 So, it's a beautiful thing, and I love going home, back to Michigan, and taking my wife, Cookie, and our children.
00:04:06.280 Now, we've got two grandchildren, and taking them back as well.
00:04:09.140 That's amazing.
00:04:10.160 Now, let me ask you, was it a very competitive family?
00:04:12.940 Was it, like, absolutely, because that's a lot of kids.
00:04:15.860 No question about it.
00:04:16.660 Was it competing?
00:04:17.060 Was it, I'm faster, I throw better, I jump higher?
00:04:19.360 Always, always, always.
00:04:20.480 Was it instigated, or was it just natural?
00:04:22.560 It was natural because, you know, with all of us playing sports, we challenged each other to everything.
00:04:28.380 We didn't have to really play with anybody else.
00:04:31.580 We had enough people to play with in the family.
00:04:34.260 That's right.
00:04:34.720 So, you know, if somebody was running, we wanted to see who were the fastest.
00:04:38.840 If we were on the basketball court, how many shots could you make?
00:04:41.720 Go one-on-one against each other.
00:04:43.680 And then we would play as a family, too.
00:04:45.440 We would play five-on-five against other people, you know.
00:04:49.080 And so, and then we would go to the park.
00:04:52.060 I love our Saturdays and Sundays.
00:04:54.120 After church on Sunday, we would always go to the park and play with other families.
00:04:59.560 We would go, and we would play with other kids and had a wonderful time.
00:05:02.660 But the main thing that they gave us, too, was you can do anything in life you want.
00:05:09.980 Would they tell you that?
00:05:11.120 Yes, they would tell us that.
00:05:12.520 Was it both mom and dad constantly saying that?
00:05:14.120 Yes.
00:05:14.680 Wow.
00:05:14.820 But you just got to educate yourself, and then you got to outwork people.
00:05:18.640 You got to be really hardworking people.
00:05:21.960 And that's what we all are.
00:05:23.160 We grew up saying, okay, we can.
00:05:25.540 My sisters always wanted to be teachers, so they went in the education path.
00:05:30.200 I've always wanted to play basketball.
00:05:31.660 But also, after basketball, I wanted to become a businessman.
00:05:35.020 So that's something you always wanted to do.
00:05:36.780 That's right.
00:05:37.120 It wasn't something that you hung around with Jerry Buss, and he said, I want to be a business guy.
00:05:39.460 No.
00:05:40.060 No.
00:05:40.300 Got it.
00:05:40.580 I've always wanted to do it.
00:05:41.840 Any reason for it?
00:05:42.680 Like, did you see somebody?
00:05:44.000 Yeah.
00:05:44.280 When you're looking up to somebody?
00:05:45.500 Yeah.
00:05:46.060 Well, you know, it was a guy like you, Patrick, where I think all these people here, and especially
00:05:53.480 these young people, can look at you and say, hey, you have achieved.
00:05:57.180 And how did he do it?
00:06:00.020 What did he do?
00:06:01.340 And so it was two African-American businessmen in Lansing, Michigan, this small town.
00:06:06.920 And they own car dealerships and different businesses.
00:06:09.880 And I said, I want to be like them.
00:06:12.040 Right?
00:06:13.140 And so from there, I had these two role models right in front of me.
00:06:17.660 And I took it, and I asked them to teach me and become my mentors.
00:06:24.540 How old were you when you did that?
00:06:25.740 Oh, that was 16 years old.
00:06:27.500 At that age?
00:06:28.240 Yes.
00:06:28.760 And they gave me my first job.
00:06:30.560 The dealership guys?
00:06:31.300 Yes.
00:06:31.880 Were you already a local celebrity or not yet?
00:06:34.140 No.
00:06:35.380 Because of basketball.
00:06:36.640 Like, did they know you were like, you know.
00:06:38.120 Yes, they knew who I was.
00:06:39.460 Okay.
00:06:39.980 And I was just getting better and better.
00:06:42.000 And, but they gave me my job, and then once I got to college, they said, okay, we're going
00:06:49.780 to really help you, prepare you for even when you make some money in the NBA, but also how
00:06:55.420 to keep some money once you're in the NBA.
00:06:58.360 Because a lot of athletes, they go in rich, but come out broke, and that's very unfortunate.
00:07:04.540 But that happens quite regularly.
00:07:05.860 So you had some guys you reached out to.
00:07:07.700 And so, Magic, when did people know, or when did you know more importantly, like, you know
00:07:13.140 what, I can, I can really play.
00:07:15.760 Like, I can play with these guys that are the competitors.
00:07:18.060 Like, when did that happen to you where you said, I can play at the next level?
00:07:21.320 I think that when you get to college and you said, okay, I'm playing against these pros
00:07:27.280 and I'm holding my own.
00:07:29.860 And I said, oh, okay.
00:07:31.900 You know, but the main thing for me was first winning.
00:07:35.380 I won at every level.
00:07:36.840 I won the third grade championship, fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, seventh grade,
00:07:40.480 eighth grade, ninth grade.
00:07:41.620 You were winning.
00:07:42.300 Yeah, I was winning.
00:07:43.400 My high school had never won a championship.
00:07:46.320 Once I got there, we won the state championship.
00:07:48.820 Michigan State had never won a championship, national championship.
00:07:51.960 I led them to a national championship.
00:07:54.180 So it was about winning for me.
00:07:56.500 And it still is about winning.
00:07:57.920 And so then I get to the NBA because I played against pros in high school and in college.
00:08:06.340 I felt comfortable like I belonged in the NBA.
00:08:08.860 Who was the one guy you faced where you said, you know what, if I can hang with this guy,
00:08:12.080 was there somebody you faced where you said I can hang?
00:08:13.660 George Iceman Girvin.
00:08:15.300 George Girvin.
00:08:16.020 Yeah, absolutely.
00:08:16.700 He taught us so much.
00:08:18.500 He's from Michigan like I am.
00:08:20.480 And he used to let us hang around him.
00:08:23.040 And right now he's still living in San Antonio.
00:08:25.560 And he's the one who really gave me my confidence and also showed me how to improve my game.
00:08:34.180 And so we worked out with him.
00:08:36.540 You didn't play against him in college because he was before.
00:08:38.840 Yeah, he was already in the pros.
00:08:40.220 Right.
00:08:40.680 So in the summer when he would come home, he would allow us to play pickup games with him
00:08:46.020 and one-on-one.
00:08:46.800 And he used to kill us.
00:08:48.600 But he said, keep coming back.
00:08:50.060 You're going to get better and better playing against me.
00:08:52.200 And that's the guy who really helped all of us.
00:08:54.880 You know what I'm always curious about?
00:08:56.100 I mean, in high school or when you were coming up, was there a kid where you said,
00:09:02.260 this cat's better than me?
00:09:03.600 But he didn't have the work ethic.
00:09:04.700 Was it like a kid where you said, this guy can hang with me.
00:09:07.880 He's going straight to the pros.
00:09:09.540 But maybe distractions, lack of work ethic, lack of discipline kind of completely took him off
00:09:13.700 and he never made it to the big leagues.
00:09:14.960 Was there somebody like that?
00:09:16.060 Oh, yeah.
00:09:16.540 Oh, yeah, because there was three or four guys like that who had just as much talent
00:09:21.540 but they didn't have the work ethic or they got into trouble and ended up in jail.
00:09:28.740 One guy was talented but ended up dead because he got into trouble.
00:09:33.760 So we've seen talented young people who make the wrong decisions or who think that, oh, I don't have to put the time in
00:09:45.360 and then five or six guys will pass them.
00:09:50.620 And we see that still today.
00:09:52.080 Some people rely too much on their talent and they don't put the hard work or they don't have the work ethic to go along with that talent.
00:10:00.380 And so you've got to put the time in.
00:10:02.360 You have to be a hard worker and it will come back to you.
00:10:05.740 So you're in high school, you're playing ball, you have all these distractions.
00:10:11.280 People know who you are.
00:10:12.640 Girls are chasing you left and right because you're the guy on campus.
00:10:16.120 How did you minimize these distractions and stay focused and not go do some of these other things that other guys were doing?
00:10:22.700 How did you stay so focused?
00:10:23.800 Patrick, great question.
00:10:24.940 I just had a goal and a dream.
00:10:27.340 Look, growing up poor but I didn't have poor dreams.
00:10:35.740 You know, I didn't have poor dreams.
00:10:38.680 So I knew the way I could change everything in my life was two things.
00:10:49.220 Hard work and the education could change everything for me.
00:10:53.940 So I put the time in and while they were partying or chasing girls or whatever, I was at the gym working out all the time.
00:11:05.740 My parents, my mother, she used to say, go take that boy some food because he's going to never come home for dinner.
00:11:14.600 So she used to have my brothers and sisters bring me, you know, food.
00:11:18.560 And then the last thing is, you know, you stay home.
00:11:21.360 I mean, you stay after school because we had practice.
00:11:23.740 And a lot of you have gone through this, I'm sure.
00:11:26.900 And you get home to the dinner table and six other, your other brothers and sisters have already eaten.
00:11:34.760 You know that there's nothing left.
00:11:37.240 Bread, maybe if you're lucky, right.
00:11:39.300 A piece of cornbread or something like that.
00:11:42.300 So I enjoyed it.
00:11:44.740 But I'll tell you what, I was dedicated to basketball.
00:11:49.980 And once I saw that I had some talent, I wanted to just take it as far as I could.
00:11:57.620 But I was never satisfied.
00:12:00.160 And even today, you know, I heard your speech before I came out.
00:12:04.780 But you and I are cut from the same cloth.
00:12:08.360 We're still not satisfied.
00:12:10.120 We know we can achieve more.
00:12:12.520 Yes, it's going to be 100,000 like you talked about.
00:12:15.620 You keep pushing the envelope.
00:12:17.760 You keep growing.
00:12:18.700 You keep wanting more.
00:12:20.240 And that's who I am.
00:12:22.540 I'm always wanting more.
00:12:25.240 I'm never satisfied.
00:12:26.400 I push my people that we can do better.
00:12:28.960 We want more growth.
00:12:30.000 We want to continue to get bigger and better.
00:12:32.020 And we know we can.
00:12:32.920 So that's exciting to hear you talk to all of you.
00:12:37.000 And you should want the same for yourself, too.
00:12:39.640 You know that, hey, if you're at this level, then you know, hey, I can go to this level.
00:12:44.480 Then I can go to that level.
00:12:45.760 Just keep growing because you can do it.
00:12:48.060 Were you always this charismatic and charming?
00:12:50.140 Like, were you always like, because, Magic, I got to tell you this, man.
00:12:53.220 I watch your interviews when you go to Charles.
00:12:55.440 Stephen A. Smith, they invite you, all you guys.
00:12:57.040 And I try to watch your interviews.
00:12:58.600 Here's why I watch your interviews.
00:12:59.740 If you ever tweet, no one debates it.
00:13:03.340 When you make comments, you're the only guy that people just say, if Magic said it, it's right.
00:13:10.460 So how have you gone?
00:13:12.860 Like, were you always this charismatic, charming guy that people like?
00:13:16.320 Did you always have somewhat of a personality?
00:13:18.100 Or did that develop over time?
00:13:19.700 Well, I think I was always, I had this personality, but I had to develop it over time.
00:13:26.380 No question.
00:13:27.160 My mother gave this to me.
00:13:28.640 Were you shy?
00:13:29.100 Were you ever shy?
00:13:29.500 Oh, yeah.
00:13:30.040 Oh, yeah.
00:13:30.660 You know, in the beginning, I just wanted to play.
00:13:33.340 I didn't want to talk.
00:13:34.120 I just wanted to play.
00:13:35.960 But I had to hone my skills in terms of making sure that I could do an interview.
00:13:41.080 And that I would come across as a smart and intelligent man, right?
00:13:49.080 But it took time.
00:13:50.260 It took practice.
00:13:50.980 And I'm just happy that now I have the respect and that I'm not going to say anything stupid
00:14:00.420 or do anything stupid to hurt myself, my brand, or my family.
00:14:05.400 Because that's very important that I'm also trying to pave the way for my two sons and my daughter, right?
00:14:14.760 And so everything I do, I have to say, okay, what's going to be the consequences of what I say?
00:14:22.920 Before I push that button, send, okay, what's the pros and the cons?
00:14:28.280 Did you develop this?
00:14:29.300 Is this something that happened through a development process?
00:14:31.720 Yes.
00:14:31.900 Okay.
00:14:32.080 Yes, I had to develop that.
00:14:35.140 But also the discipline that I had as a basketball player, now I have the same discipline as a father, as a son, as a CEO.
00:14:47.720 I'm one of the most disciplined men you're going to ever meet.
00:14:50.560 How do you stay humble, though, man?
00:14:51.800 Like, how do you stay humble?
00:14:52.840 I mean, Magic, you walk anywhere.
00:14:55.340 People know who you are.
00:14:56.400 You walk in L.A.
00:14:58.040 You're God in L.A. to so many people.
00:14:59.720 So you get compliments from everybody.
00:15:01.080 Oh, my gosh, this magic, you're the greatest, all this other stuff.
00:15:03.780 So much can be fed in you for you to become extremely cocky.
00:15:06.400 How do you stay humble?
00:15:07.740 Well, first of all, God has really blessed me.
00:15:09.640 Without him, you know, just as fast as he blessed me with it, he can take it away, right?
00:15:20.840 And so I'm not going to get caught up into being Hollywood.
00:15:25.600 I've always told my wife, we're not going to become Hollywood.
00:15:28.860 We're just going to do Hollywood, right?
00:15:30.700 And it's a difference between the two.
00:15:33.460 And so I understand, you know, who I am.
00:15:37.900 I understand what I mean to my community.
00:15:41.380 And I've always gone back and tried to help those who are less fortunate than myself.
00:15:47.040 And I've always been about the black and brown community and try to uplift them and give them job opportunities and education opportunities.
00:15:56.560 Because through the Magic Johnson Foundation, we give out scholarships and so I've just been blessed.
00:16:06.960 And I'm not looking for a pat on the back.
00:16:11.380 I'm just a guy who understood where he was going and who I was going with, which has been my wife for 25 years.
00:16:22.340 And, you know, there's plenty more for us to do.
00:16:27.920 And I just want you guys to know, both of us grew up poor.
00:16:32.800 I met her on the campus of Michigan State.
00:16:35.400 I saw some jeans walking by.
00:16:37.300 I didn't see her face.
00:16:37.960 I just saw these jeans walking by.
00:16:40.280 And I started running after these pair of jeans.
00:16:43.780 And I heard you tell the story about your wife.
00:16:47.000 Yeah, I did.
00:16:49.760 And we've been partners ever since.
00:16:51.960 And so what a true blessing.
00:16:54.440 That's amazing, man.
00:16:55.340 That's amazing.
00:16:55.940 And you're a great example for the rest of us to know.
00:16:58.060 If a guy like you is staying humble, I mean, who else, you know, can go out there and get a little too cocky about it?
00:17:02.880 So, okay, so now here's Magic Johnson.
00:17:06.220 You've been winning in high school, you know, from fourth grade, fifth grade, junior high school, high school, Michigan State, Bird, the whole duo.
00:17:14.000 Now you go into the NBA and you start competing.
00:17:17.720 And you're one, I mean, right off the bat, Jerry Buss bet on you.
00:17:21.440 Right.
00:17:21.800 And you came on board.
00:17:22.780 And I was a right bet.
00:17:23.620 And the first game when you play against Kareem and you jump in, I'm on top of it.
00:17:27.620 So tell me what it was when you first, your first game, like when you first kind of knew you're a pro now, what was that like?
00:17:32.400 Well, my first game was in San Diego and, yeah, and it came down to three seconds left and we were down one.
00:17:45.180 And we threw the ball into Kareem and he hits a skyhook from the free throw line to win the game.
00:17:54.180 So I'm 19 years old.
00:17:56.680 I'm running over and I jump in his arms and, you know, I'm choking him.
00:18:01.720 What a great play.
00:18:03.140 What a great shot.
00:18:04.140 I've never seen anything like this.
00:18:06.160 And so we get into the locker room and he says, young man, come here.
00:18:13.080 We have 81 more games.
00:18:15.860 Don't ever do that again.
00:18:17.160 So now I got to look at him and said, OK, this is a veteran.
00:18:21.880 He's the greatest player right now, the best player in the league.
00:18:24.500 And I'm looking at him like, how am I going to respond?
00:18:27.700 So I said, well, this is my moment to tell him who I'm who I'm really am so that he can understand that I'm I wear my passion on my sleeve.
00:18:38.520 So I went right over to his locker and said, Kareem, if you hit the shot 81 more times like that, I'm going to jump in your arms 81 more times.
00:18:47.900 And he looked and he was shocked.
00:18:50.960 Right.
00:18:52.340 And from then on, we got along great.
00:18:57.020 And Kareem, is Kareem always pretty serious?
00:18:59.320 Yes, he's always serious, man.
00:19:00.760 He didn't smile.
00:19:02.680 But I'm a guy who did.
00:19:05.460 The opposite.
00:19:05.980 Yes, but we got along because slowly but surely, you know, he came and started showing some emotion.
00:19:13.680 And but I respected his space and he taught me a lot.
00:19:19.200 He taught me how to be a pro.
00:19:21.720 And in what ways?
00:19:22.980 Like what were some things he told you?
00:19:24.760 Well, see, when you enter the NBA, you don't know how to do things.
00:19:28.760 You came from college, so you really don't know how to be a pro yet.
00:19:32.140 So the veterans have to teach you, you know, how to practice, how to now you got all these planes and buses you have to go on and then all these hotels and all the things that coming at you and all these people who are now coming who want things from you.
00:19:51.300 So he taught me how to be a professional, how to look out for all those people who are trying to take my money.
00:19:57.740 And also, hey, you practice hard, you watch film and then make sure you get your rest.
00:20:05.280 And he always said that.
00:20:06.700 Make sure you get your rest.
00:20:07.780 And then always remember, give everything you got.
00:20:12.880 And then when the press come, always protect your teammates.
00:20:17.720 And so we see a lot of things that's going on now in the NBA or professional sport this week.
00:20:23.400 Sure.
00:20:23.840 Where guys are, are conversations they would have in the locker room should stay in the locker room, but then they're tweeting it out and sending it out.
00:20:33.440 And that's really bad.
00:20:34.480 I don't believe in that.
00:20:35.400 So, are you insinuating what LeBron James did this week wasn't the right thing?
00:20:41.280 Because that's what Barkley, all these guys got into it that he shouldn't have done it.
00:20:44.940 And Garnett commented, Wallace commented.
00:20:46.980 Yeah, you can't belittle your teammates.
00:20:49.600 You always got to uplift your teammates.
00:20:51.420 You can do it privately.
00:20:52.260 You can do it privately, but not publicly.
00:20:54.820 Yeah, he's really important.
00:20:57.360 So, now, Kareem in the locker room, Kareem in the locker room, when you guys ran together,
00:21:03.620 was it you played your role, he played his role?
00:21:07.300 How did you guys handle friction in the locker room?
00:21:09.280 Because I mean, I'm sure there's going to be fights.
00:21:10.720 I didn't get the ball enough.
00:21:11.500 Why don't you pass it to me?
00:21:12.340 Why don't you do this?
00:21:13.300 How did you guys hash it out in the locker room?
00:21:15.900 Well, everybody played their role.
00:21:17.880 And the final say, of course, he was the captain of our team.
00:21:24.080 And he would always make sure that he had the final say.
00:21:28.160 But the good thing about our team, we didn't have that many problems.
00:21:33.960 And everybody was there to win and play their role.
00:21:37.720 And it's just like everybody here.
00:21:40.100 They all got to play their role to help this company become successful and maintain being great.
00:21:49.120 And it's the same thing in a team.
00:21:51.120 Everybody has to play their role, go out, do their job.
00:21:54.200 And if you do that, yes, it's going to be dispute sometime.
00:21:58.240 Hey, I think I should be getting a couple more shots.
00:22:01.680 Or you missed me on that pass.
00:22:04.880 But you can take care of that.
00:22:06.780 And I think that me being a point guard, I would always say, I missed you this time.
00:22:12.240 But I get you the next time.
00:22:13.780 So I come back, you know, I'm in those little hot pants we used to wear.
00:22:18.560 And I throw it to him.
00:22:20.320 And he was happy.
00:22:21.820 I knew how to keep guys happy because I had the ball in my hands.
00:22:25.700 I knew how to make sure every guy got his shots and then keep them happy that way.
00:22:30.320 You know, it's funny you say that.
00:22:31.220 We had James Worthy here two years ago.
00:22:33.940 And James was out here.
00:22:35.440 And I was interviewing him.
00:22:36.300 I said, James, what was it like running with you?
00:22:39.040 And he says, it wasn't easy at first.
00:22:40.640 I said, why wasn't it?
00:22:41.420 He says, because I'm Mr. Everything.
00:22:44.100 You know, people thought I was better than Jordan.
00:22:46.180 It was kind of how he was in college.
00:22:47.440 People thought James was ahead.
00:22:48.360 That's right.
00:22:48.720 And then he said, in high school, I'm the man.
00:22:51.840 I'm coming into college, you know, and all of a sudden I'm playing on a team that I'm the third best player on the team.
00:22:57.000 So he says, at first I was having some problems.
00:22:59.820 And then all of a sudden I was playing the game just to be myself.
00:23:03.540 And Magic's trying to get us to go have dinner together, bring us all of us together.
00:23:06.340 And he really gave you a lot of credit because eventually he said the following in the interview.
00:23:11.680 He says, I eventually realized Magic was the better leader than me.
00:23:16.360 And once I got aligned in his leadership, we started winning.
00:23:19.620 So, you know, obviously James having played with a guy like that.
00:23:24.120 So now you're a point guard.
00:23:26.980 Every one of these guys just came out of high school.
00:23:28.880 They're studs.
00:23:29.720 In high school, they're the best player.
00:23:31.060 In college, they're the best player.
00:23:32.580 Then they're coming on a team, they're number five.
00:23:36.060 How do you lead them?
00:23:37.200 I had to get them to buy into that you may be the fifth option, but that's an important role that you're playing.
00:23:44.160 So you made every position be important.
00:23:45.720 That's right.
00:23:46.240 Every person is important.
00:23:48.820 No matter what your role is, it's an important role.
00:23:52.600 And if you don't do your job, we can't win.
00:23:54.960 Was it a one-on-one conversation?
00:23:56.380 Was it a group conversation?
00:23:57.460 Oh, yeah.
00:23:57.840 No, it's both.
00:23:58.760 Were you more one-on-one or were you more?
00:24:00.020 First one-on-one.
00:24:00.840 You have to do it one-on-one first.
00:24:03.600 And you have to uplift the guy.
00:24:05.640 You have to make them feel like they're important.
00:24:08.620 And so I would say to James, hey, man, you was a man at North Carolina, no question about it.
00:24:15.060 But when I come down on this break, I'm looking for Kareem first.
00:24:20.720 You told him that.
00:24:21.780 Oh, yeah.
00:24:22.300 And you have to be happy with that.
00:24:23.900 And then if I got that lane and I'm shaking and baking and I see that seam and I can get through that seam to the basket, then I'm going to take the shot.
00:24:36.120 But if I can't take it and Kareem's not open, guess what?
00:24:40.280 Baby, you're going to get it.
00:24:42.200 And you did a lot of that.
00:24:43.300 So you have to help them understand.
00:24:46.680 And then everybody gets comfortable with that.
00:24:49.080 And the main goal was for us to win.
00:24:53.620 So everybody bought in.
00:24:56.520 And Coach Riley was the perfect coach for us.
00:24:59.060 And we just went to the finals nine times in 12 years.
00:25:03.640 Oh, my gosh.
00:25:04.180 You know, so we had a great run.
00:25:07.240 Nine times in 12.
00:25:09.840 And it was a true blessing.
00:25:13.260 So it was a lot of fun.
00:25:15.120 That's amazing.
00:25:15.780 So Riley.
00:25:16.340 Now, Riley's personality.
00:25:17.640 Yeah.
00:25:18.040 Riley, tell me.
00:25:18.660 Let me tell you when I see Riley what I think about.
00:25:20.380 So tell me if I'm wrong or not.
00:25:21.980 When I see Riley, I see Riley being one decision away from being a mobster.
00:25:26.440 That's what I see with Riley.
00:25:28.700 Is he really like that?
00:25:30.200 Like, is he really a temperamental?
00:25:31.800 How do you want to kill everybody?
00:25:33.060 Is that really him?
00:25:34.300 He is the ultimate competitor.
00:25:36.660 But also, too, he's a sharp dresser.
00:25:39.120 So he wants to slick the hair back.
00:25:40.640 Always.
00:25:41.120 He had the Armani suits on.
00:25:44.100 But the one thing good about Pat Riley was he taught us all how to come together as a family.
00:25:53.420 And if a guy was having a baby, he wanted everybody at the hospital.
00:25:57.060 Get out of here.
00:25:57.920 If a guy was having a party at his home, everybody had to be there.
00:26:01.840 Wow.
00:26:02.280 And he held everybody accountable, too.
00:26:04.320 Now, would he call you and say, how come you weren't there?
00:26:06.360 Why didn't you show up?
00:26:07.300 Oh.
00:26:07.800 No, no.
00:26:08.200 He wouldn't stand for that.
00:26:09.740 This is your teammate.
00:26:11.280 You support your teammate.
00:26:12.440 I like that.
00:26:13.200 Unless you had something very, very important, then you got to tell your teammate you got something very important.
00:26:19.020 But other than that, you had to show up and be there.
00:26:22.860 So a high standard type of a guy is what Riley was.
00:26:25.660 I'm sorry.
00:26:25.960 High standard.
00:26:26.520 Oh, high standard.
00:26:28.620 He believed in best in class.
00:26:30.740 Every time we went somewhere, he wanted us to look the part and play the part.
00:26:34.800 So what was his methodology?
00:26:36.620 Like, would he say, read this book?
00:26:37.940 Because I know Phil is always about Zen and all these books and yoga.
00:26:41.500 What was Phil's?
00:26:42.800 Pat wasn't about reading the books.
00:26:45.660 What he was about was he was a guy who said he demanded that we play the game the right way.
00:26:53.900 Then, and we were going to practice the game the right way.
00:26:57.780 So he was a man, if we play the game the right way, practice the game the right way, then the game becomes easier.
00:27:04.340 Right?
00:27:04.880 And then he was about, he was a perfectionist.
00:27:08.440 So he made me become today as a man and as a CEO, I'm a perfectionist because of him.
00:27:15.720 He pushed me to do everything right.
00:27:18.740 Just like today, you know, I landed here at seven o'clock.
00:27:21.940 I knew what time I was supposed to be here.
00:27:23.900 I've been doing this 30 years.
00:27:25.240 I've never been late.
00:27:26.780 I've never been late for a meeting.
00:27:28.320 I respect up the people's time and I do everything.
00:27:32.840 You were literally on time with one minute.
00:27:35.200 You were early one time.
00:27:36.340 Oh, you know, he's about, hey, on time for him is like 15 minutes before or 30 minutes before.
00:27:43.400 That's on time.
00:27:43.980 Now, let me ask you, initially, when you work with a guy with that high standard that, like, you can't ever do enough, like, he always wants a little bit more.
00:27:50.320 Was it a little bit annoying at first?
00:27:52.020 And how did you adjust?
00:27:52.940 No, no.
00:27:53.560 Not for you.
00:27:54.120 I love being coached hard.
00:27:57.480 Did some guys not like it?
00:27:59.200 Some guys definitely didn't like it.
00:28:00.400 Did they adjust or eventually they had to leave and he would work with somebody else?
00:28:03.300 They adjust or they got out.
00:28:04.660 He got them out of there.
00:28:05.760 Makes sense to me.
00:28:06.420 It's one way.
00:28:07.720 This is the way.
00:28:08.600 And not just this is the way for basketball.
00:28:12.520 This is the way for your life.
00:28:15.140 I respect that.
00:28:16.160 And it carries over to you being a husband and it carries over to you being a father.
00:28:22.540 And one day you got to talk to your son or daughter.
00:28:26.260 And they watch everything we do.
00:28:29.280 So, if you're on point as a father, as a guy who goes to work every single day, guess what?
00:28:37.480 But they see that.
00:28:38.320 They see that.
00:28:40.220 And they know that that's what they got to do.
00:28:43.260 Right?
00:28:43.600 And so, it's very important.
00:28:45.860 And he taught us that early and he was so right.
00:28:49.220 One time my son, he's on TV and he was going to do an interview.
00:28:54.200 And I was scared to death.
00:28:55.520 Okay, you ready?
00:28:56.700 Have you prepared?
00:28:58.820 And I'm going crazy.
00:29:00.120 I'm pulling this bald head.
00:29:03.220 And he said, Dad, you don't have to worry.
00:29:07.220 I watched you my whole life.
00:29:09.300 Wow.
00:29:10.660 Wow.
00:29:12.560 Unbelievable.
00:29:13.600 I started crying.
00:29:15.860 Wow.
00:29:17.240 Because we don't know.
00:29:18.760 Right?
00:29:19.160 We don't know.
00:29:20.040 We don't know if our kids are seeing what we're doing.
00:29:24.860 And man, I went into my room and I just broke down.
00:29:28.760 Because I was so happy that he was watching.
00:29:34.040 Right?
00:29:34.460 That he got a chance to see that, you know, I'm a professional.
00:29:38.700 And sometimes our kids, the neighbor or somebody else or the uncle or the son,
00:29:43.600 or the friend of the family can say the same thing you say, but they're going to listen
00:29:47.400 to them.
00:29:47.960 Right?
00:29:48.400 Because you're a dad.
00:29:49.280 But I'm so happy that he's been watching and it was a great moment for us.
00:29:55.760 Well, why don't we transition in that?
00:29:57.200 Because we can come back to the NBA.
00:29:58.620 Let's transition in that.
00:29:59.680 So, raising kids.
00:30:01.800 So, you have, you're playing the game.
00:30:04.560 Right.
00:30:05.120 Requires 41 games per season to be on the run, not including preseason.
00:30:08.660 And in preseason, you're playing the Celtics eight times.
00:30:10.620 So, you're going to.
00:30:11.680 And then you have playoffs and you're in the playoffs every single year.
00:30:14.280 Yep.
00:30:14.660 So, you're traveling.
00:30:15.620 You have TV commitments, dream team, Olympics, interviews, all this other stuff.
00:30:20.220 Yep.
00:30:20.560 Kids, wife.
00:30:21.920 How did you find the time?
00:30:24.140 Because everyone's going to make you feel guilty.
00:30:25.620 You weren't there.
00:30:26.260 You're not a good father.
00:30:27.280 How did you manage that and sell cookies?
00:30:29.340 So, you know, she wrote the book, Believe in the Magic.
00:30:30.820 How did you manage that to say, babe, we're going to make this work and still raise kids?
00:30:34.620 Because everybody always asks me, balance in your life.
00:30:39.740 It's hard to get balance.
00:30:42.240 So, it was really interesting that you bring this point up.
00:30:47.000 You know, I told, my wife and I are best friends, so we talk about everything.
00:30:51.720 And I said, honey, I'm building this for us and our family.
00:30:55.780 But it's going to take me being on the road.
00:30:58.580 I got to go make it happen.
00:30:59.980 And I said, you and I got to work this out.
00:31:05.840 Are you good with me have to be grinding and going on the road?
00:31:10.120 So, you talked to her about it?
00:31:10.580 Yes, I talked to her about it.
00:31:12.280 She said, honey, I got the kids.
00:31:14.680 Go make it happen.
00:31:15.700 But what I want you to do is just promise me every big moment in their life, you be there.
00:31:23.780 Got it.
00:31:24.400 So, every big play or recital or something that was going on, I made sure I was there.
00:31:32.640 And then last thing I did was I said, every weekend I knew I was going to work.
00:31:37.880 So, my baby, she loved movies.
00:31:40.520 So, and Cold Stone's ice cream.
00:31:42.820 So, I said, okay, honey, I'm going to take you every Saturday.
00:31:46.140 We're going to go to Cold Stone's and we're going to have, you know, father and daughter time.
00:31:51.200 My sons, they like to just go and see every movie.
00:31:54.640 So, I would take her early and then I would take my son.
00:31:58.080 And then as a family, we would go to church every Sunday.
00:32:00.720 Every Sunday.
00:32:01.360 Oh, you don't miss church.
00:32:03.100 You know, I'm like my parents, you know.
00:32:05.220 We go.
00:32:06.140 They brought me up through the church.
00:32:07.760 So, we go now.
00:32:09.320 And so, it's a blessing.
00:32:11.820 So, I tried to make sure I was still a good father as I'm building this business.
00:32:17.840 But at the same time, you must, both of you as the husband and wife, got to be on the same page.
00:32:24.080 And we were, and my kids, we have a close relationship.
00:32:29.780 This is what's crazy.
00:32:31.000 Now, my baby just turned 22.
00:32:33.640 My son is 25.
00:32:35.240 My oldest son is 35.
00:32:37.380 I am so happy that they still like going on vacation with us.
00:32:40.880 They still like hanging out with us.
00:32:43.820 That was my fear.
00:32:45.980 As they get older, are they still want to hang out and be a part of the family?
00:32:52.820 And so far, so good.
00:32:54.380 And I think it's because we're close to them.
00:32:57.440 And we let them, you know, do their thing.
00:33:01.060 But also, we're there to give them good advice.
00:33:04.280 So, I don't think it's no right way of doing it.
00:33:07.380 I think that if you sit down and talk to your partner and talk to your wife and explain to her what we're building together.
00:33:16.860 Because it's not me building it.
00:33:18.360 We're building it together.
00:33:20.980 And these are the things that I have to do to get us there.
00:33:24.880 Right?
00:33:25.320 And are you good with it?
00:33:27.840 And once she said, yeah, look what happened.
00:33:30.500 It exploded for both of us and our family.
00:33:33.740 And it's been great.
00:33:35.200 And she was very supportive of what you were doing.
00:33:36.980 Oh, yeah.
00:33:37.420 Because she's smart.
00:33:38.400 She's smart.
00:33:38.980 She's smart.
00:33:39.900 She's smart, man.
00:33:41.540 She keep her brother in line, too, boy.
00:33:43.600 But, you know, you ladies, you ladies got a look.
00:33:51.840 When you give us that look and we know what that look mean, man, when Cookie give me that look, that kills me.
00:34:00.740 Like, it's like, okay, I messed up.
00:34:04.280 And I better say I'm sorry real quick.
00:34:06.600 Like, and so I always look for that look.
00:34:12.140 And if, you know, you can be talking and all of a sudden that look means, okay, you just said enough.
00:34:20.760 Got it, baby.
00:34:21.760 Got it.
00:34:22.680 25 years.
00:34:23.860 I mean, you guys understand each other.
00:34:25.360 Oh, we understand each other.
00:34:26.740 You know, we love going to movies and concerts.
00:34:30.060 And we love doing nothing.
00:34:33.780 Some of our best time is just going to the park and just looking at each other and looking at kids playing or taking long walks along the beach or something like that.
00:34:46.180 Those are some of our greatest moments.
00:34:48.080 And going to church and then go to brunch after that.
00:34:51.760 We just have, really, people think we live this life.
00:34:56.660 And, yes, we can have that, but we don't want that.
00:34:59.360 We just want this, right?
00:35:01.180 It's simple, great, fun, the Lord.
00:35:05.400 That's all we need.
00:35:06.700 Unbelievable.
00:35:06.920 We're good.
00:35:07.740 More power to you.
00:35:09.500 That's one of the reasons why the league respects you as much as they do.
00:35:12.940 So we were talking about Riley before you, you know, the family came up.
00:35:16.820 And I wanted to kind of find out a little bit more about the successful marriage you've had 25 years.
00:35:21.780 Coaching-wise, there's a lot of great coaches in the NBA.
00:35:25.080 Who would you put at the top?
00:35:26.700 I mean, I know this is a tough one, but who would you put at the top?
00:35:29.020 Right now?
00:35:29.980 All time.
00:35:30.780 Of all time.
00:35:31.540 I think that you still got to go with Phil Jackson because he won a lot of championships.
00:35:36.700 I mean, people didn't have to remember this about Phil.
00:35:43.280 They always said, well, he had the talent.
00:35:45.220 Well, let's go back.
00:35:47.020 There were some coaches before Phil Jackson got there.
00:35:49.460 And they didn't get it done with that same talent.
00:35:51.720 That's right.
00:35:52.120 Right?
00:35:52.860 Somebody was coaching the Bulls before Phil Jackson got there.
00:35:55.620 They didn't win the championship with Jordan, with Pippen.
00:36:00.280 That's why Phil Jackson got there, right?
00:36:02.720 Okay.
00:36:03.000 He wins there.
00:36:04.160 Well, the Lakers had Shaq and Kobe.
00:36:06.080 They didn't win no championships.
00:36:07.400 So, until Phil Jackson got there.
00:36:10.860 So, we have to remember that, you know?
00:36:12.920 So, Phil played a major role.
00:36:16.060 Then, Red Auerbach has been amazing.
00:36:19.120 He had 10 championships with the Celtics.
00:36:20.840 Did you ever meet him?
00:36:21.840 Yeah.
00:36:22.380 Yeah, talk to him.
00:36:23.320 How was he?
00:36:23.960 I mean, I keep reading about Red, but what was his personality like?
00:36:27.120 Oh, man.
00:36:27.220 Was he a Phil personality, Riley, or?
00:36:29.620 He's in between both.
00:36:31.320 He was a serious guy, but fun at the same time.
00:36:35.900 But he knew basketball frontwards and backwards.
00:36:38.580 Got it.
00:36:39.100 And he could bring out the best in players.
00:36:40.940 Got it.
00:36:41.660 And then Greg Popovich.
00:36:42.900 I mean, this dude here, he can coach.
00:36:45.240 Man, he can coach.
00:36:46.560 So, you'd put him right on number one.
00:36:48.060 Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:36:48.800 He's right behind them.
00:36:49.860 Him and Pat Riley are the next two guys.
00:36:55.160 But to do what San Antonio has been able to accomplish and do is just amazing.
00:37:01.560 You think they stand a chance at this?
00:37:02.680 You think they can go?
00:37:03.220 Oh, yeah.
00:37:03.460 They still have a chance.
00:37:03.860 You would put him there even without Duncan?
00:37:05.300 Because the thing about them, they're the smartest team, right?
00:37:10.560 They're not going.
00:37:11.320 You got to beat them.
00:37:12.860 You got to beat them.
00:37:13.860 They're not going to beat themselves.
00:37:15.040 That's right.
00:37:15.740 Fundamentals.
00:37:16.140 They're going to play together.
00:37:17.240 And he's going to come up with a game plan to go up against you.
00:37:21.740 I still think that Golden State will win, win it all.
00:37:25.220 You think Golden State is going to win it all this year?
00:37:26.300 Yeah, I think it's going to win it all.
00:37:27.380 Because we see how Kevin Durant has made the game so much easier for Steph Curry and Klay as well as Draymond.
00:37:36.800 They're playing super on defense.
00:37:39.100 Amazing.
00:37:39.500 So, I would rate them one.
00:37:42.100 I think San Antonio is right behind them.
00:37:44.360 Of course, Cleveland in the East.
00:37:45.660 Nobody's going to beat them in the East.
00:37:47.040 You put in Cleveland three, though.
00:37:48.260 It sounds like you're not saying Cleveland two.
00:37:49.280 Yeah, I think Cleveland right now is not playing good basketball.
00:37:52.180 They're struggling right now.
00:37:53.480 And so, they got to get back to playing.
00:37:57.080 Even though LeBron is the best player in the world, but they're not playing like they were last season.
00:38:03.220 And for whatever reason, they're having some struggles, and so they got to get back playing well.
00:38:09.500 But I would say, right now, they're probably playing the third best team right now.
00:38:14.920 So, here's a strange question for you.
00:38:16.600 LeBron is the greatest talent.
00:38:18.720 Human specimen, 6'8", 260, jumps 40, whatever inches.
00:38:21.960 Okay, all good.
00:38:23.500 Who's the best leader in the game today?
00:38:25.640 Not the talent.
00:38:26.540 Best leader in the game today.
00:38:28.100 I'm going to take Chris Paul.
00:38:30.220 It's amazing.
00:38:31.380 I would agree with that.
00:38:32.380 I think he's a guy that's got to win one.
00:38:35.040 History needs a guy like that to win one.
00:38:36.820 Yeah, I think he's just, to me, he's the best leader and floor leader we have.
00:38:42.540 Wow.
00:38:43.120 And just amazing talent.
00:38:46.040 And too bad for the Clippers.
00:38:47.900 They just don't have enough to beat San Antonio or Golden State.
00:38:52.160 Wow.
00:38:52.740 So, top five of all time.
00:38:54.140 Who would you put?
00:38:54.780 From point guard, small shooting guard, small power?
00:38:58.980 I'll leave myself out.
00:39:00.560 So, I would take...
00:39:01.560 No, you know, because I'm going to feel that point guard.
00:39:09.520 But I take Isaiah.
00:39:11.020 I take Jordan at two.
00:39:13.040 I'm going to take, to me, Larry Bird at three.
00:39:17.640 Who was one?
00:39:19.420 I would take Isaiah Thomas at one.
00:39:21.640 Isaiah won.
00:39:22.720 Yeah.
00:39:23.560 Steph Curry got a lot of work to do, sir.
00:39:25.960 Got a lot of work to do.
00:39:27.120 Wow.
00:39:27.280 So, you're Isaiah where...
00:39:28.960 He doesn't have the resume yet.
00:39:31.320 He only got one championship.
00:39:33.280 Right.
00:39:33.700 You think he's the greatest point guard of all time?
00:39:36.080 Well, mm-mm.
00:39:37.080 No, no.
00:39:37.540 So, you got to have a full body of work.
00:39:45.980 And so, and then I'm going to take Tim Duncan as my power forward.
00:39:50.540 And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the center.
00:39:54.140 You pick Kareem as number one.
00:39:56.320 So, tell me what's the biggest difference.
00:39:58.300 If Kareem at his best, Shaq against his.
00:40:01.100 Because my top five is close to yours except for one.
00:40:03.900 Kareem at his best, minus, you're obviously one.
00:40:06.200 But Kareem at his best, Shaq at his best.
00:40:10.120 Really?
00:40:11.160 Tell me why.
00:40:12.400 I mean, Shaq was a human specimen.
00:40:15.380 Yes, he was.
00:40:16.140 And I like Shaq.
00:40:17.640 But he was no Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
00:40:20.140 This man could dominate you with both hands.
00:40:23.880 He, they, when they have to change the game because of you,
00:40:29.020 that's greatness.
00:40:32.540 And we have to remember, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won three national championships in a row in college.
00:40:40.600 And it could have been four if freshmen were allowed to play.
00:40:44.480 The man was just so dominant.
00:40:47.440 And I like Shaq.
00:40:49.480 Shaq is probably the most dominant in terms of this physical presence as we've ever seen in the game of basketball.
00:40:57.760 And a big personality.
00:41:00.020 Big.
00:41:00.460 And I love Shaq.
00:41:01.720 And, matter of fact, we're, the Lakers are putting a statue in, in March of Shaq out in front of the state.
00:41:08.460 Did you see his reaction the first time he found out?
00:41:10.400 He kind of like a, he couldn't believe it.
00:41:12.260 I know.
00:41:12.400 When they told him, that was cool.
00:41:13.760 I know.
00:41:14.180 So, I love him.
00:41:15.320 And I put him right behind those guys.
00:41:17.660 But Kareem to me.
00:41:19.880 And then Tim Duncan.
00:41:21.300 Oh, my goodness.
00:41:22.180 That man is so good.
00:41:25.340 And it was scary how good Tim was.
00:41:27.420 And he, he didn't want nobody to know he was that good.
00:41:29.740 You know, he's like, I'm going to do my job and I'm going home.
00:41:32.460 But imagine what made him good.
00:41:33.380 Because you look at his stats.
00:41:34.920 Decent stats.
00:41:35.700 There's guys that maybe can have nice stats.
00:41:38.120 But what made Tim so special?
00:41:39.500 Because he, he played big in the big moments in the pressure situation.
00:41:45.000 Got it.
00:41:45.320 And he made his teammates better.
00:41:48.500 And he, he didn't care about the headlines.
00:41:52.340 That's why I love him.
00:41:53.220 He just, look, I'm going to come do my job.
00:41:56.520 But I'm going to do it better than anybody else.
00:41:59.340 And you don't have to put my name in the paper.
00:42:02.300 I don't need all that.
00:42:04.460 And that's why I love him.
00:42:05.780 That's why he won five championships.
00:42:08.140 The man is amazing.
00:42:09.260 And so, I would put him at the power forward spot.
00:42:12.620 And then Larry Bird was just unbelievable.
00:42:14.560 Unbelievable.
00:42:15.120 Shoot the lights up.
00:42:16.800 Shoot the lights up.
00:42:17.920 So, so, you played against, obviously, MJ many times.
00:42:22.040 Yes.
00:42:22.380 You played with him from 84 when he came in until 91.
00:42:26.640 What made him, like, when was it, like, when he came in the league, did you know right off the bat?
00:42:30.880 Or did it take a few years for you to say, who is this guy?
00:42:33.840 Like, he could be the great.
00:42:35.320 No.
00:42:35.620 When did you know it?
00:42:36.600 Michael, right off the bat.
00:42:38.100 Seriously.
00:42:38.620 Yeah.
00:42:39.120 Right off the bat.
00:42:39.760 Right off the bat.
00:42:40.900 The tongue was out.
00:42:44.560 Man, when he did that move on us.
00:42:47.800 Sam Perkins.
00:42:49.320 Man, when he came down in 1991 and he took off with the right hand.
00:42:54.580 And all of us thought we had it, right?
00:42:56.440 We all jumped.
00:42:58.000 And in midair, we should have known we were in trouble.
00:43:00.800 The tongue was on the right side.
00:43:03.360 And then he switched it to the left side.
00:43:05.380 And in midair, he switched to the left hand and spun it against the glass.
00:43:13.380 Unbelievable.
00:43:14.620 Oh, man.
00:43:21.620 Just crazy.
00:43:22.740 And then the greatest move I've seen, and I've been a part of probably three of the greatest moves.
00:43:29.820 Dr. J jumped out of bounds on us one time and he floated through air.
00:43:35.220 He walking in the air.
00:43:37.100 On Cooper?
00:43:37.740 Is that the one?
00:43:38.260 The one on Cooper?
00:43:39.040 Oh.
00:43:39.540 And rocked it and dunked it.
00:43:42.080 Oh.
00:43:42.880 And then the other one was Michael Jordan.
00:43:45.420 We're in the Olympics.
00:43:46.780 He stole the ball on the right side.
00:43:48.840 So he's coming down.
00:43:49.740 He takes off.
00:43:50.920 David Robinson.
00:43:51.440 This is Dream Team?
00:43:52.140 This is Dream Team you're talking about?
00:43:53.220 Yeah.
00:43:53.580 David Robinson, he takes off the blocket.
00:43:56.780 So Michael just said, I'm going to just stay up here in the air and wait until you go down.
00:44:03.600 No, check this out.
00:44:05.020 Check this out.
00:44:06.040 He looked at him here, and then he looked at him there.
00:44:12.080 That means he's going what?
00:44:13.980 Down.
00:44:15.340 He looked at him and 360'd on him.
00:44:19.640 Bam.
00:44:21.440 So I got a question.
00:44:25.220 There's this whole debate with him and LeBron, right?
00:44:27.360 LeBron, you know, I'm chasing Mount Rushmore, all this other stuff.
00:44:31.860 Let me just ask the question.
00:44:33.300 I just want to ask the question from you.
00:44:36.460 Patrick.
00:44:37.080 I just got to ask you.
00:44:38.460 But go ahead.
00:44:38.960 Okay.
00:44:39.880 Can he do anything?
00:44:42.120 Can he, at this point of his career, okay?
00:44:44.140 I mean, he's 1'3".
00:44:45.160 He's 1'3".
00:44:45.620 Can he do anything, anything for someone like you who knows this game very, very well?
00:44:53.220 You're not going to take favorites.
00:44:54.180 You're going to say what you're going to say.
00:44:56.080 Can LeBron do anything to be known as the greatest of all time ahead of MJ?
00:45:01.000 At this point of his career, no one will we know what his resume, everything.
00:45:03.720 And he's kind of like, the numbers are not going to go any higher.
00:45:06.340 Can he do anything?
00:45:07.260 Well, he would probably have to win seven or eight, because right now, we have to remember
00:45:13.940 something about Michael.
00:45:15.460 He never lost in the NBA Finals.
00:45:19.780 Never.
00:45:20.200 Right.
00:45:21.540 Never.
00:45:22.620 Right?
00:45:23.120 Never even game seven.
00:45:24.380 So, and he averaged like, in those Finals, he was averaging like 35 points a game.
00:45:31.360 Unbelievable.
00:45:32.360 He was putting in work.
00:45:34.360 So, that's hard.
00:45:37.720 That's hard.
00:45:38.360 But you said something, Magic.
00:45:39.460 So, if LeBron wins seven, I'm not a LeBron fan.
00:45:41.720 There's a guy sitting right there who's a diehard LeBron fan.
00:45:43.980 There's a lot of LeBron guys here.
00:45:45.580 I'm not a LeBron fan.
00:45:46.600 And I'm not hating on him.
00:45:47.620 But if he wins seven, if he wins seven.
00:45:49.820 Then we got a conversation.
00:45:51.040 And we got a conversation.
00:45:51.900 We got a conversation.
00:45:52.660 We got a conversation.
00:45:53.280 But if we play draft pick, greatest of all time, okay?
00:45:58.640 And LeBron wins seven, let's just say.
00:46:00.960 Let's just say he wins seven.
00:46:02.000 Today is 2023.
00:46:04.000 LeBron's got seven.
00:46:05.220 Okay?
00:46:05.860 You have first pick.
00:46:07.760 I have second pick.
00:46:09.600 Who's your number one draft pick?
00:46:12.280 Michael.
00:46:13.100 I'm taking Michael.
00:46:13.520 Really?
00:46:14.120 Still?
00:46:16.180 I'm taking Michael all day.
00:46:18.020 Unbelievable.
00:46:18.580 I'm taking Michael.
00:46:19.940 Look, I love me some LeBron.
00:46:22.900 I think that besides his jumping ability, we are similar to what we did.
00:46:29.140 Right?
00:46:29.720 Because he makes his teammates better.
00:46:32.220 He's great in terms of he wants to win.
00:46:35.800 But when I think about trying to surpass Michael, and also the competition Michael had to beat to win.
00:46:45.420 You know, it was unbelievable.
00:46:46.100 East was strong.
00:46:46.900 East was very good.
00:46:47.460 Yeah, it was strong.
00:46:47.920 He had all those guys.
00:46:48.620 So, but LeBron has done great things for the game today.
00:46:54.600 And he wants to win it again.
00:46:55.860 That's why I like him.
00:46:56.920 You know, he's complaining because he wants to win again.
00:46:59.560 And there's nothing wrong with that.
00:47:00.740 But Michael right now, I got to take Michael.
00:47:02.500 But if I'm taking one guy today, the start, out of all the guys, I'm starting with LeBron.
00:47:07.180 You are.
00:47:07.640 Yeah.
00:47:07.740 Oh, yeah.
00:47:08.020 I'm picking him.
00:47:08.620 I mean, who else would it be?
00:47:09.400 It couldn't be Curry or Durant.
00:47:10.620 I'm still going to go with LeBron.
00:47:11.760 Fair enough.
00:47:12.220 Okay.
00:47:12.440 I'm taking LeBron.
00:47:12.900 All right.
00:47:13.320 So, fair enough.
00:47:14.800 Fair enough.
00:47:15.200 So, let's talk a little bit about the one guy I'm always curious about is I am a big fan of Jerry Buss.
00:47:21.560 Okay.
00:47:21.760 I'm a big fan of Jerry Buss on what he did.
00:47:23.620 I think as an organizational leader, 33 years, 10 championships.
00:47:27.500 I mean, that's unheard of.
00:47:28.460 Yes.
00:47:28.580 Think about a Steinburner, all these other guys.
00:47:31.040 There's nothing like a Buss.
00:47:32.580 You work with Buss.
00:47:33.400 He gave you a 25-year contract, $25 million.
00:47:36.080 You got ownership of the Lakers for playing for the Lakers.
00:47:39.340 This is unheard of.
00:47:40.080 They can't do it today anymore.
00:47:41.140 That's right.
00:47:41.460 They try to give it to other guys if they can't do it.
00:47:43.440 That's a magic rule.
00:47:44.480 No one does it ever since magic did.
00:47:46.780 So, what made Buss so special?
00:47:48.860 What made him so special that you guys didn't want to leave?
00:47:51.200 You wanted to play for this guy?
00:47:52.440 He made it fun to be part of the Lakers organization.
00:47:55.140 Because he cared about you off the court.
00:47:57.380 It wasn't just, Dr. Buss was a great owner because he always, what are you doing, young
00:48:05.520 man, to improve your life?
00:48:07.760 Not just as a basketball player, but your life.
00:48:10.420 Are you taking care of your money?
00:48:12.580 Are you making the right decisions in terms of investment?
00:48:16.400 How's your family doing?
00:48:18.160 And then if you had a goal like me, I had a goal to be a businessman.
00:48:21.000 He took me up under his wing and he mentored me.
00:48:25.060 He showed me the books and he opened the books up and said, hey.
00:48:27.960 Magic.
00:48:28.140 I've heard that.
00:48:28.980 He really did that with you.
00:48:30.220 Oh, yeah.
00:48:30.760 He helped me out.
00:48:31.720 He helped me out.
00:48:32.620 You know?
00:48:33.340 And he became like a father figure to me.
00:48:36.300 And the only reason I'm a businessman today is because of Dr. Buss.
00:48:40.120 And so it's great that I showed the initiative, but he said, hey, I'm going to mentor you.
00:48:49.880 And then he knew how to treat those who worked for him.
00:48:54.820 And that's why we all loved him.
00:48:56.700 Because he treated Kobe like a man and with respect.
00:49:01.020 And thanked him for bringing those championships to the Lakers.
00:49:04.840 But it wasn't Kobe.
00:49:06.820 Every single guy he treated with respect, whether you were the star or the last guy on the bench.
00:49:13.900 You know?
00:49:14.280 And so that's what made him special.
00:49:16.920 And he was different from any other owner.
00:49:19.100 Before, it was the owners over here and the players over there.
00:49:22.240 He changed all of that.
00:49:24.220 And some of the owners didn't like that.
00:49:26.660 Right?
00:49:27.120 Because he was friendly with the players.
00:49:29.600 And so I thank God for that.
00:49:31.340 And I thank God for him.
00:49:32.640 Because, again, I had a golden dream.
00:49:34.900 He helped me fulfill that golden dream.
00:49:36.980 I mean, you only play for the Lakers and so did Kobe.
00:49:39.060 You never change a jersey.
00:49:39.900 No.
00:49:40.120 You stay there.
00:49:40.840 And everybody would have wanted you.
00:49:42.940 Yeah.
00:49:43.460 But you stay there.
00:49:44.220 No, I love.
00:49:45.400 I'm a Laker, man.
00:49:46.900 Through and through.
00:49:49.760 You know, it hurt me when you left.
00:49:51.600 Well, you know what happened?
00:49:53.200 It's funny, Patrick, because when Joe and Peter bought Golden State,
00:49:59.180 they offered me a piece of the team.
00:50:02.520 And I turned them down because I said, I'm a Laker.
00:50:05.600 Was Jerry already there or not yet?
00:50:06.980 No, no.
00:50:07.380 This just happened four years ago, five years ago.
00:50:10.400 So West hadn't left yet or West was already gone?
00:50:12.800 Jerry West.
00:50:13.300 Yes, he was gone.
00:50:14.200 He was already there.
00:50:15.020 Yeah.
00:50:15.340 So my friends who bought the Golden State Warriors wanted me to come with them.
00:50:19.080 Got it.
00:50:19.580 And then Tom Gores, who bought the Detroit Pistons, wanted me to join his ownership team
00:50:24.580 and run the Pistons.
00:50:25.540 I said, no, I'm a Laker.
00:50:27.920 And so I've been offered a couple more jobs.
00:50:34.620 I said, no, I'm a Laker.
00:50:35.880 That's who I am.
00:50:36.740 I can't leave and go work for another organization because I wouldn't give them 150% because I'm
00:50:43.640 a Laker.
00:50:44.060 Now, what if someone comes out out of nowhere like a Guggenheim or somebody comes out and
00:50:48.260 say, look, we need new ownership, man, because I cannot, listen, I can say it.
00:50:53.180 You can't say it.
00:50:53.860 Maybe I can say it.
00:50:54.620 I can't stand the existing guy on the decisions.
00:50:58.120 He drives me insane.
00:51:00.120 We need a new one.
00:51:00.740 I'm not talking, Jeannie.
00:51:01.680 You know who I'm talking about.
00:51:03.000 What if Guggenheim comes and says, look, we'll fund it.
00:51:05.420 We'll put up the $2 billion.
00:51:06.900 You come to the one, Magic.
00:51:08.320 What if that happened?
00:51:09.060 We got to bring the Lakers back, man.
00:51:10.460 We need somebody to come back in.
00:51:11.500 We had to bring them back.
00:51:12.260 Would you be open to it?
00:51:13.520 Of course.
00:51:13.800 If we can put a deal like that together, would you be open to it?
00:51:16.100 Of course.
00:51:16.640 We're doing a business deal right now in front of everybody.
00:51:18.340 Right now in front of everybody.
00:51:19.160 They're in the room, just so you know that right now.
00:51:22.680 Of course.
00:51:23.540 I would be open to it.
00:51:24.680 You know, I love that organization.
00:51:26.160 I love the team.
00:51:27.040 And I want them to do well.
00:51:29.980 And I just hope that they can get back to being competitive and going to the playoff.
00:51:36.980 And as I told, you know, Jeannie, Buss, and all of them, hey, anytime I can help, just
00:51:43.400 don't hesitate.
00:51:44.620 I hope he listens.
00:51:46.800 That's the only thing.
00:51:47.620 I hope he listens.
00:51:48.060 Because the moment I heard the 5% was gone, and then I heard, you know, the Asian guy apparently,
00:51:52.660 whoever got the 5% this season.
00:51:55.440 And then Jim was running it.
00:51:57.840 And then Jerry West, the moment you and Jerry were gone, I said, what's that?
00:52:00.720 Who's going to want to play for this organization?
00:52:02.240 Yeah.
00:52:02.440 Why would LeBron come to the Lakers?
00:52:03.540 Exactly.
00:52:04.020 If Jerry was there, you were there, he would be interested in that.
00:52:06.260 Why is he going to come over there?
00:52:07.260 So it completely threw me off as a fan a little bit.
00:52:10.240 We haven't been able to sign a superstar, so that's been our problem.
00:52:13.540 We need one to make the other guys better.
00:52:17.560 Didn't Jeannie just have a conversation with you recently?
00:52:19.920 Yeah.
00:52:22.200 That smile, Magic, says a lot, Magic.
00:52:24.540 We noticed that smile a little bit.
00:52:26.340 You know, so she always asks me for my advice.
00:52:28.680 She loves you, though.
00:52:29.480 I was at an event.
00:52:30.280 I was at a charity event with her, and she went the entire time in tears about you.
00:52:35.340 Like, literally, like, magic changed my life.
00:52:38.780 And she went on for one hour.
00:52:39.860 We're like brothers and sisters.
00:52:41.280 And so her father wanted to make sure that, actually, we're around the same age,
00:52:47.700 so he brought us up together.
00:52:49.080 And that's why she's so great at business, because her father had her with him everywhere.
00:52:55.480 And she went to college, and he made sure that when he was going to die,
00:53:02.480 that she was going to take over that business.
00:53:05.800 And that's why she's doing great on the business side.
00:53:08.560 And so it's been really wonderful to watch her continue on her father's legacy
00:53:15.960 and do a wonderful job doing that.
00:53:18.060 Well, I was hoping to get a little bit more,
00:53:20.540 because I wanted to see if there's anything going on with your involvement,
00:53:23.100 because we want you to get involved.
00:53:24.620 But look, to finish up, we've got five minutes here to respect your time.
00:53:28.980 Last subject, entrepreneurship.
00:53:30.920 So you go from playing a game that you can do with your eyes closed, basketball, right?
00:53:35.720 And you know exactly.
00:53:36.460 You go to the highest level, Mount Rushmore.
00:53:38.460 You're Mount Rushmore.
00:53:39.560 You're at that level.
00:53:40.120 We're not talking first ballot Hall of Famer.
00:53:41.760 You're Mount Rushmore on that level.
00:53:43.040 Thank you.
00:53:43.860 Absolutely.
00:53:44.420 So you go to that level.
00:53:45.340 Now you have to go from this game, you know, to entrepreneurship.
00:53:49.860 What is your biggest challenge you faced when you made that transition?
00:53:53.100 Well, first of all, I had to admit to myself I didn't know business.
00:53:56.620 That you didn't know business?
00:53:57.760 Didn't know business.
00:53:58.280 That you didn't know business.
00:53:59.500 That I didn't know business.
00:54:01.020 See, self-evaluation is the hardest thing we have to do because you have to be honest with yourself.
00:54:09.760 What's your strength and what's your weaknesses?
00:54:13.660 And it's not about your ego.
00:54:16.280 It's about telling the truth.
00:54:17.800 I knew basketball.
00:54:19.380 I knew, you know, how to play the point guard position, on and on and on.
00:54:23.760 But I didn't know business, so I had to get me some mentors to help me along the way.
00:54:30.340 And I sat down with anybody who would sit down with me, right, picking their brains.
00:54:35.960 A lot of CEOs, a lot of presidents of companies.
00:54:38.580 So I'm writing down information on paper but also up here.
00:54:42.420 So then I said, okay, where do I want to invest my money?
00:54:50.300 I'm from the inner cities.
00:54:51.680 I'm from urban America.
00:54:53.040 So I did my homework and research and said, man, we're the number one group of people going to the movies,
00:54:58.440 but there was no theaters in our community.
00:55:00.920 We had to drive outside our community just to go to the movies.
00:55:05.100 So I said, that's what I'm going to do.
00:55:07.620 I'm going to invest in movie theaters first.
00:55:10.080 I did a joint venture with Sony.
00:55:12.420 And we built Magic Johnson Theaters.
00:55:15.200 And people thought I was crazy.
00:55:16.860 Thank you.
00:55:17.420 They thought I was crazy.
00:55:22.720 And the first theater right there in Los Angeles in South Central came in the top 10 highest grossing theaters in the nation in my first year.
00:55:31.520 Unbelievable.
00:55:33.560 So what happened, Patrick?
00:55:37.620 I used common sense.
00:55:39.820 Okay.
00:55:40.200 So, all right.
00:55:42.420 We grew up on Kool-Aid.
00:55:45.300 So, I'm going to make sure I have strawberry, orange, grape, fruit punch.
00:55:53.800 So did you change that?
00:55:55.400 Instead of Coca-Cola.
00:55:56.800 I changed that.
00:55:57.720 No way.
00:55:58.640 I'm telling you.
00:55:59.540 Wow.
00:56:00.060 Then, I was the first theater to have jalapeno peppers.
00:56:08.260 Oh, yeah.
00:56:09.280 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:56:11.880 Because I know what my customer base wanted.
00:56:15.660 Right?
00:56:15.960 So, I'm going to hit you with something.
00:56:20.120 You got to know your customer.
00:56:23.480 So, once you know your customer, then you have to not deliver.
00:56:29.140 You have to over deliver.
00:56:31.520 And then you'll get the retention that you're looking for.
00:56:37.440 So, what I did was buy the peppers.
00:56:41.400 I had a spicier sausage and hot dog.
00:56:44.320 And everything changed to fit the urban consumer.
00:56:48.800 So, now, when an urban consumer walks in and says, this is my place, this is where they're going to come all the time.
00:56:58.100 And so, sure enough, we had everything rolling.
00:57:02.860 It went great.
00:57:04.300 That took off.
00:57:05.660 We built six of them.
00:57:07.340 And then I got bowed and knocked on a guy named Howard Schultz door for Starbucks.
00:57:13.780 And I said, hey, minorities, we like coffee, too.
00:57:19.440 We like coffee, too.
00:57:21.420 You know?
00:57:21.640 So, he was like, I said, the growth of your business has to be through urban America because you built out suburban America.
00:57:32.380 And he said, you know what?
00:57:34.120 We don't do franchisees.
00:57:35.880 I'm not here to be one.
00:57:37.180 I want to be your partner.
00:57:38.520 I put up half the money.
00:57:39.760 You put up half the money.
00:57:41.560 And so, we started building Starbucks in the inner cities.
00:57:44.540 Were you the first he did that with?
00:57:45.560 First one ever.
00:57:46.640 Wow.
00:57:47.040 Yeah.
00:57:47.560 First one ever.
00:57:48.480 Wow.
00:57:48.860 Thank you.
00:57:49.300 How many of those now?
00:57:51.900 How many of the Starbucks now?
00:57:53.000 We started off with building three.
00:57:55.200 And he said, if those three be number one.
00:57:58.400 So, we were outgrossing suburban stores.
00:58:02.060 My first three inner city.
00:58:03.580 We built 125 stores.
00:58:06.960 And this is what was wonderful.
00:58:09.400 In the headlines of the LA Times, no way minorities would pay $3 for a cup of coffee.
00:58:15.000 Well, we'll pay $3 for a cup of coffee.
00:58:17.660 We quite don't know what scones are.
00:58:20.560 So, I had to take the scones out of my Starbucks.
00:58:25.860 I put in sweet potato pie.
00:58:28.360 Pound cake.
00:58:30.120 Sock it to me cake.
00:58:33.360 Peach cobbler.
00:58:35.960 Things that resonate with the urban consumer.
00:58:39.500 And now, my per caps were $5.78.
00:58:43.980 His per caps were $5.25.
00:58:46.240 My per caps were higher than his per caps.
00:58:48.820 My inner city stores.
00:58:50.940 And then I had to take out that elevator music that they play in all the other suburban stores.
00:58:57.600 What's your kid with that?
00:58:58.780 Like, did you just say, we can't do this here?
00:59:00.220 No, we can't do this.
00:59:00.760 You was fine with that.
00:59:01.240 My customer base don't want that.
00:59:03.340 So, I put in, you know, Lionel Richie and Prince and Michael Jackson.
00:59:09.420 So, while you're in the Starbucks, you got your hand, your toe tapping, you got your drink going.
00:59:15.320 Wow.
00:59:16.160 And that's, and then the last thing it did, it gave us a place to meet our friends and family.
00:59:23.800 See, we didn't have meeting places in urban America where I can say, hey, man, meet me, or hey, meet me.
00:59:29.480 And that place, that store, that Starbucks store became a meeting place for people who lived in urban America.
00:59:37.880 So, that's why we were so successful.
00:59:39.840 And I sold them all back to Starbucks, and it was an amazing run.
00:59:47.620 We built, we were supposed to build 125 in 10 years, but because we were making so much money, we built them all in six years.
00:59:55.780 In 40 different cities, and it was really wonderful.
00:59:58.980 Not in California, all across.
01:00:00.400 All over the country.
01:00:01.280 Got it.
01:00:01.400 And what was really good, and I want you guys to understand this, was I put a lot of minorities to work, not just in the stores, but they became district managers, where you can make a lot of money, and area managers, and on and on and on.
01:00:20.780 And it was really unique and special for me to see minorities in these management positions, and that business really take off.
01:00:28.700 So, it was really wonderful.
01:00:29.700 That's amazing.
01:00:30.260 You know, do you own the movie theater right next to that Sizzlers?
01:00:33.400 I'm sorry.
01:00:33.840 Is there a Sizzler right next to the movie theater?
01:00:35.740 Yes.
01:00:36.360 So, that's the first time ever in my life I spoke in front of an audience of 30 is at that Sizzler.
01:00:42.880 It's the first time in my life I spoke at that Sizzler.
01:00:45.420 I used to sell memberships at Fox Hills Mall.
01:00:47.860 So, you know Fox Hills Mall?
01:00:49.000 I was working at Valley Total Fitness right off of Victory in Overland, and Sony was right there.
01:00:54.100 So, I used to always be in that entire cover city.
01:00:56.260 Right there at that Sizzler.
01:00:57.420 Hey, man, first of all, you know, you have no idea how much this means to me and our organization to have you come out here and spend an hour with us.
01:01:05.980 I know how busy you are.
01:01:07.040 Thank you.
01:01:07.560 And how many different opportunities you got for you to do that.
01:01:10.160 That means a lot to us.
01:01:11.200 Thank you.
01:01:11.560 And we think the world of you in a major way, and I have a gift for you.
01:01:15.600 Guys, I was trying to think about what gift to get this guy.
01:01:18.680 Everybody gets some gifts all the time.
01:01:20.420 So, we did some research.
01:01:21.580 Let's see what we have.
01:01:22.760 Let's see what we have.
01:01:23.900 Let's give Bailey a round of applause.
01:01:24.780 And she's beautiful, too.
01:01:26.060 Yeah, she's beautiful.
01:01:26.820 Bailey doing a great job.
01:01:27.520 High five, sweetie.
01:01:28.760 So, we got a couple things here, man.
01:01:30.520 Okay.
01:01:30.840 I hope you enjoy this, man.
01:01:32.480 I hope you don't have it, but we'll see.
01:01:34.880 So, first one, look, you know, we like to go around wearing this shirt called I'm an Entrepreneur,
01:01:41.520 but we made a limited edition I'm an Entrepreneur shirt.
01:01:44.600 Your size with the purple and gold that says I'm an entrepreneur.
01:01:47.840 Yeah, yeah.
01:01:49.160 Hopefully, you support this and appreciate that.
01:01:51.620 And then I heard the fact that you like to run.
01:01:55.460 That's right.
01:01:55.980 They tell me you're a runner.
01:01:57.280 I like to work out all the time.
01:01:58.940 So, we got you the most, you know, the highest quality one of these running watches.
01:02:05.380 Very nice.
01:02:05.820 You may have one.
01:02:06.660 If you don't have one, I hope you can enjoy this yourself.
01:02:08.160 I don't have one.
01:02:09.240 Okay.
01:02:09.580 Well, that's great.
01:02:10.240 It's the least we can do for you, man.
01:02:11.760 We just wanted to give you a gift.
01:02:13.320 Thank you.
