Valuetainment - Episode 253： How to Handle Chaos as an Entrepreneur

00:00:00.000 30 seconds, one time for the underdog, ignition sequence start, let me see you put em up, reach

00:00:09.220 the sky, turn the stars up above, cause it's one time for the underdog, one time for the

00:00:16.220 underdog.

00:00:17.300 I'm Pat Trebedev, your host of ITM, and today we're going to talk about how you can handle

00:00:20.640 chaos as an entrepreneur.

00:00:22.380 It's amazing how many entrepreneurs don't make it in business or survive simply because

00:00:27.300 they don't know how to handle chaos.

00:00:28.540 Believe me, this is something that was very difficult for me initially when I was an

00:00:32.040 entrepreneur.

00:00:32.500 But let me tell you what's going on right now in my life.

00:00:33.940 What you see behind me is a moving truck.

00:00:35.920 In the last seven days, this is what's happened in the last seven days.

00:00:39.320 I'm currently in California.

00:00:41.060 We are moving our entire family to Dallas, Texas.

00:00:44.420 Sold the house right behind me.

00:00:46.060 We bought a house in Dallas, Texas.

00:00:48.140 We're moving the office.

00:00:50.240 We're moving all of our staff's stuff from their house.

00:00:54.320 The things we had to move from the office yesterday till one o'clock in the morning.

00:00:57.300 I think every single thing taking place here, they had to go to all their homes and move

00:01:01.540 their things.

00:01:02.560 We had a convention that took place last week, four-day convention with speaker lineup of

00:01:06.560 Aloncer Jr., Robert Green, Joe Jordan, Grant Cardone.

00:01:10.540 And it started from eight o'clock in the morning, went till midnight, four days straight.

00:01:14.320 Then on the last day, we had to surprise some of our leaders and had to have all the things

00:01:17.680 be in place with nine exotic cars.

00:01:19.880 Then on Monday night, we flew back.

00:01:21.660 Our East Coast people came with me.

00:01:23.680 I took them to a Laker event with Shaq and Jeannie Buss and went and got a private tour

00:01:29.480 of the locker room and had dinner and shot around at the regular court of the Lakers.

00:01:34.900 It's just a phenomenal time.

00:01:36.260 My wife's pregnant, five months. 1.00

00:01:37.600 I got two boys.

00:01:38.260 I got my nanny.

00:01:39.400 Family's over here dealing with the real estate sale here.

00:01:42.100 All of these things are taking place.

00:01:44.480 All of these things are taking place.

00:01:45.980 And so someone asked, how do you handle what all these things take in place and how do

00:01:50.660 you handle all these chaos?

00:01:52.220 I said, it's a perfect episode to put together because the question gets asked quite often

00:01:56.880 and how does somebody improve?

00:01:58.300 So today I'm going to talk about three things with chaos.

00:01:59.840 One, the big four of chaos, four types of chaos.

00:02:04.260 Two, three types of people and how they respond to chaos and seven tips on how you can become

00:02:08.840 at handling chaos.

00:02:10.060 Let's start off with this.

00:02:10.880 First, the big four.

00:02:11.840 First, the big four.

00:02:12.920 There are four types of chaos and believe it or not, they're all connected.

00:02:15.980 One is not separate than the other one.

00:02:18.800 First, you have your personal life, family.

00:02:21.280 You got breakups.

00:02:22.180 That's a chaos.

00:02:23.340 Some don't know how to handle breakups and it leaks into their business life.

00:02:27.100 Divorce happens.

00:02:28.460 Two out of three marriages nowadays end up at a divorce.

00:02:30.680 It's something that's happening a lot.

00:02:33.040 Death, how you handle death in a family.

00:02:35.500 It's going to happen.

00:02:36.220 We're all only here for about 70, 80, 90 years.

00:02:39.140 So how do you handle that?

00:02:40.160 Then you have children.

00:02:41.780 Children that are going through their own breakups, going, they're getting sick.

00:02:44.700 These are all small chaos that are taking place.

00:02:47.140 Some of you are having a hard time watching this video because of the sound you're hearing

00:02:49.560 around you.

00:02:50.120 That's chaotic to you, right?

00:02:51.900 So now next, financial.

00:02:53.700 That's chaos.

00:02:54.860 Debt, expenses, wedding.

00:02:56.640 How do I handle my wedding?

00:02:57.720 Oh my God, I got a wedding.

00:02:58.740 I have people always tell me, I have this wedding.

00:03:00.820 I need to prepare.

00:03:01.440 It's 90 days out.

00:03:02.180 And morning till night, everything gets affected because there's a wedding day.

00:03:05.560 And a wedding is only six, seven, eight hours.

00:03:07.540 But they take 90 days.

00:03:08.800 It becomes chaotic in their lives.

00:03:10.860 Income, new house, they're buying.

00:03:12.740 They have to move in.

00:03:13.540 They have to do this.

00:03:14.140 They have to do that.

00:03:14.760 Everything goes on shutdown for about 90 days when there's a house.

00:03:17.800 Because to them, that's chaotic, right?

00:03:20.060 Health.

00:03:20.760 Your weight.

00:03:21.520 Weight goes up.

00:03:22.380 Energy low.

00:03:22.960 It's chaotic.

00:03:23.620 Everything else is affected by it.

00:03:25.480 Illness.

00:03:25.860 You get sick.

00:03:26.680 You're, you know, you prolong your sickness because you don't take care of yourself and

00:03:30.780 you don't know how to get to work.

00:03:32.200 When I'm sick, I can't work.

00:03:33.260 I don't feel good.

00:03:33.800 I don't go to the office.

00:03:35.100 Loss of a loved one.

00:03:36.000 Your diet is chaotic because of the way you handle yourself.

00:03:39.880 Your energy is low.

00:03:41.060 Your injury.

00:03:41.880 You broke something.

00:03:42.780 Your voice.

00:03:43.540 My voice.

00:03:44.480 How long ago was it when my voice, what happened to, this was a year, year and a half ago,

00:03:47.840 two years ago.

00:03:48.640 All of a sudden, my voice was gone.

00:03:50.540 So I go to the doctor.

00:03:52.500 We're going everywhere.

00:03:52.980 I just can't do videos.

00:03:53.880 If you go back and watch some of my old videos, you'll hear my voice is completely gone.

00:03:57.520 So I couldn't project.

00:03:58.920 And my business's voice, right?

00:04:01.160 And we went to the doctor, multiple doctors, and they said, this could be cancer.

00:04:04.280 This could be cancer.

00:04:04.920 This could be cancer.

00:04:05.580 And then all of a sudden, I had to do a surgery.

00:04:07.020 My voice was gone purely for a month.

00:04:08.840 One month, I had no voice.

00:04:10.240 And we found out the good news was it was benign.

00:04:13.260 And it's right before Thanksgiving when the surgery was done.

00:04:15.800 This is the first time ever in my life in Thanksgiving we're having dinner.

00:04:18.780 I can't say anything to anybody.

00:04:20.380 Maybe it was God's way of saying you need to be quiet for about a month.

00:04:22.820 But the point being, it was chaotic.

00:04:25.000 So that's health.

00:04:25.720 Then you have business.

00:04:27.240 Your chaos could be what?

00:04:28.640 Vendor.

00:04:29.040 Remember, you don't hit a deadline.

00:04:30.720 It's chaotic.

00:04:31.360 You have a deadline.

00:04:31.940 It's coming up this Friday.

00:04:32.760 We have to deliver.

00:04:33.960 A client doesn't like you.

00:04:35.380 There was a confrontation.

00:04:36.460 One of your agents or rep or an employee didn't treat a client well.

00:04:39.940 Staff confrontation.

00:04:41.140 Some staff wants a raise.

00:04:42.100 You can't give it to them.

00:04:42.760 You don't want to give it to them.

00:04:44.040 You know, there's problems there too.

00:04:45.460 Staff members don't work it together.

00:04:47.160 A business partner doesn't do as much as you want them to do.

00:04:49.900 You feel like you do more than they do.

00:04:52.580 Technology is not going well.

00:04:53.840 Your IT guys are not doing their part behind the scenes.

00:04:55.860 They're working slow.

00:04:56.920 It keeps giving you too many glitches.

00:04:58.440 There's complaints.

00:04:59.240 Your launch, it's not good launch.

00:05:01.080 That's chaotic.

00:05:02.800 Then you have your sales guys are not hitting their numbers.

00:05:05.440 Goals are not being hit.

00:05:06.420 Your investor is doing too many conference calls on you, hitting your numbers.

00:05:09.560 What's going on with this?

00:05:10.220 Too much pressure.

00:05:10.940 And it's not from a different point of view.

00:05:12.800 Your financing, the market conditions are bad.

00:05:15.700 Economic conditions are bad.

00:05:16.860 You have a lot of problems with that.

00:05:18.840 You have competition.

00:05:19.720 It's giving you a hard time.

00:05:20.760 Your reputation, online reputation.

00:05:23.040 You got your regulations, new laws.

00:05:25.540 You have a lawsuit.

00:05:26.140 All that stuff's taking place.

00:05:27.520 That is all chaotic.

00:05:29.360 This is going to happen when you're running a business.

00:05:32.060 It's all chaotic.

00:05:32.920 So what can we do about this?

00:05:34.520 By the way, most of the time, the way you handle these three will automatically affect this.

00:05:40.960 If you don't know how to handle these three, this is always going to take a hit.

00:05:44.680 Because one of these things are always going to happen in our lives, no matter what we do.

00:05:48.360 So how do we make sure we handle this to make sure we're leading this?

00:05:51.320 Can it really be done?

00:05:52.080 Of course it can.

00:05:52.880 Many have done it.

00:05:54.040 So let's talk about three types of ways people handle chaos.

00:05:58.040 Hang on.

00:05:58.260 Let's talk about three types of ways people handle chaos.

00:06:02.040 So first one is, first one is amateurs.

00:06:04.340 Amateurs tend to overreact.

00:06:12.060 All day long.

00:06:13.340 Cut the video.

00:06:14.000 All day freaking long.

00:06:15.380 We ask you to do one thing right.

00:06:16.860 You can't even move nothing.

00:06:17.920 I didn't see the video thing.

00:06:18.920 It doesn't matter. 0.99

00:06:19.960 We're doing a damn video over here, man. 0.99

00:06:21.620 What the? 1.00

00:06:22.160 Cut the damn video. 1.00

00:06:23.660 All day long he does this. 1.00

00:06:25.400 Crap something. 1.00

00:06:31.720 That's called overreacting. 1.00

00:06:33.040 That's what you don't do, right?

00:06:34.760 So we wanted to get your attention.

00:06:36.740 You get the idea.

00:06:37.600 There are people.

00:06:39.240 Mario, we love you, Mario.

00:06:40.440 Come back here, buddy.

00:06:41.500 Okay.

00:06:42.460 Amateurs tend to overreact.

00:06:44.240 Amateurs tend to overreact.

00:06:45.360 Come back to me.

00:06:46.080 Got your attention.

00:06:47.320 They overreact.

00:06:48.140 Some like that happens in their business.

00:06:50.480 All day long they're overreacting to the issue.

00:06:53.060 They panic.

00:06:54.440 They quit.

00:06:55.800 That's what amateurs do.

00:06:58.020 Amateurs do that, right?

00:06:59.240 That was just the behavior of an amateur.

00:07:01.420 Next.

00:07:02.660 Intermediate.

00:07:03.460 They give the chaos too much attention.

00:07:06.220 It doesn't need that much attention.

00:07:07.740 Meaning it's not as big as they think it is.

00:07:09.920 They slow down.

00:07:11.780 They use it as an alibi to get in the way of getting to the next level.

00:07:15.320 Let me explain to you what I mean by this.

00:07:17.100 Intermediate.

00:07:18.140 So a lot of times, believe it or not, people like to create chaos in their lives.

00:07:23.940 Here's why.

00:07:25.240 If they create chaos in their lives, they can always use that as an alibi why this is why

00:07:32.200 I could never make it as an entrepreneur.

00:07:33.940 It gives them an out.

00:07:35.800 It gives them a reason to talk amongst their peers and say, the reason why I didn't make

00:07:39.500 it as a real estate agent is because of X, Y, Z.

00:07:42.040 The reason why I didn't make it as an insurance agent is because of X, Y, Z.

00:07:44.220 The reason why I couldn't make it as an entrepreneur is did.

00:07:46.040 The reason why they love this alibi.

00:07:50.420 Then the highest one is expert.

00:07:52.440 What experts do is they anticipate it.

00:07:54.940 What experts do is they're not afraid to ask for help.

00:07:57.980 What experts do is they process issues quickly.

00:08:01.160 They process issues quickly.

00:08:03.880 Anticipate.

00:08:04.620 There's nothing like knowing there's going to be problems.

00:08:08.260 There's nothing like knowing I'm going to ask for help to see if somebody else knows how

00:08:13.060 to help me get this thing done.

00:08:14.540 And last but not least, process issues quickly.

00:08:17.460 So if there's an issue, let's address it quickly.

00:08:19.420 Let's solve it and let's move on.

00:08:20.520 So now, seven tips, seven tips, seven tips on how to handle chaos like a pro.

00:08:30.420 Number one, it's all perspective.

00:08:32.800 Let me tell you what's perspective.

00:08:34.380 So you may be in a problem and chaotic time and everybody is overreacting.

00:08:40.760 It's your job as a leader to give perspective to everybody.

00:08:44.060 So for instance, the other day somebody told me what they told me and everybody was, oh my

00:08:47.960 goodness, what are we going to do with this, what are we going to do with that, so listen

00:08:49.820 to me.

00:08:50.660 While we're here having to solve this business problem, there is bombs and rockets and all

00:08:55.320 this stuff taking place in the Middle East.

00:08:57.120 Believe me, it's not that big of a deal.

00:08:58.920 But let's handle it.

00:08:59.980 Let's get to it.

00:09:01.180 Everybody got calmed down.

00:09:02.620 Everybody did.

00:09:03.540 It's not as a big deal.

00:09:05.020 Somebody needs to always put perspective and give gratitude.

00:09:08.120 The other one, molehill into a mountain.

00:09:10.760 Someone needs to not turn a molehill into a mountain.

00:09:13.880 There are issues that are very critical that needs to be solved right away.

00:09:16.980 But someone needs to say, this is not a big deal.

00:09:19.480 Let's get it fixed. 0.91

00:09:20.960 Is it really chaos?

00:09:23.240 Just because something's happened in your business, you can't highlight it as chaos.

00:09:27.000 It just could be a small little issue you need to fix.

00:09:29.200 So you don't need to make it bigger than it really is.

00:09:32.620 Two, seek wise counsel.

00:09:34.800 It's what you need to do when there's chaotic times in your life.

00:09:37.000 Marriage, business, finance, health.

00:09:40.100 Get wise counsel.

00:09:42.520 Go to a doctor.

00:09:44.020 Go to a financial advisor.

00:09:45.620 Go to somebody who has been in your relationship, in your position before personal life or parenting and have someone like that give you counsel.

00:09:52.920 If there's business, talk to your attorney.

00:09:54.980 Talk to your CPA.

00:09:55.840 Talk to your mentor.

00:09:56.600 Let them give you some feedback.

00:09:58.320 Three, focus on what you can't control.

00:10:00.560 Not what you can't control.

00:10:01.780 If something's going on in the government or, you know, a law got passed or new regulation got passed or something's happened with the economy, you can't do nothing about that.

00:10:11.160 You just have to do, how can I control this?

00:10:13.540 What can I do with what I can control?

00:10:15.260 Let's go work with it.

00:10:16.620 An employee.

00:10:18.320 Some happens to their life, personal life.

00:10:20.860 It's an extremely big thing because it's a very important employee.

00:10:24.620 You need to be able to control what you can control.

00:10:26.420 You can't control everything.

00:10:27.560 You move on.

00:10:28.640 Four, over-prepare yourself and your team.

00:10:31.500 It's extremely important to be over-preparing yourself and your team.

00:10:35.800 Five, come up with the next three steps on what you need to be doing.

00:10:39.640 Come up with the next three steps on what you need to be doing.

00:10:41.640 Always come up with one, two, three.

00:10:43.860 Six, study the birth of the chaotic situation.

00:10:47.180 What do I mean by that?

00:10:48.480 Always find out who gave birth to the chaos.

00:10:53.300 Meaning, if there's a trend of the same person who keeps giving birth to the chaos, you either need to fire that person or get rid of that person or there needs to be something being solved here because they're giving birth to all the chaos.

00:11:05.640 And the last one is don't take it personal.

00:11:08.420 Chaos are part of business, part of life. 1.00

00:11:09.960 It's going to happen.

00:11:10.480 None of us are free from it.

00:11:11.920 How you react to it will dictate how much you advance in life as an entrepreneur.

00:11:16.940 Thanks, everybody, for listening.
