00:00:00.300 30 seconds. One time for the underdog. Ignition sequence start.
00:00:06.960 Let me see you put them up. Reach the sky, touch the stars up above.
00:00:11.100 Cause it's one time for the underdog. One time for the underdog.
00:00:17.280 I'm Patrick Bedeby, host of Outtainment.
00:00:18.900 And today, when it comes down to branding yourself, marketing yourself,
00:00:21.540 today we talk about what is the most important thing.
00:00:23.800 Your name, your looks, or your voice.
00:00:26.320 You ever heard the saying before, I want to go make a name for myself.
00:00:30.200 And I see a lot of times people come and say,
00:00:32.360 you know, I think I have to brand my name because the world needs to know about my name
00:00:36.780 and I have a good name and everything's around my name.
00:00:39.440 Okay, that's fine. I think the company's name is so important.
00:00:42.900 If we come out with a great company name, it's going to be this.
00:00:45.440 And our name is going to do such great things.
00:00:47.980 And I'm the complete opposite school of thought.
00:00:50.420 I just had a meeting with one of my good friends from high school.
00:00:52.540 I used to work with him at Burger King many, many, many, many years ago.
00:00:56.220 Good friend of mine.
00:00:56.980 And we were sitting down.
00:00:58.820 He's pursuing the business of Hollywood, entertainment.
00:01:02.180 And I said, the formula is the same formula.
00:01:04.700 Unless if your name is, let's just say your last name is Vanderbilt and you are from that lineage.
00:01:12.140 Let's just say your last name is Kennedy and you are from that lineage.
00:01:15.500 Let's just say your last name is Reagan.
00:01:16.940 You're from that lineage.
00:01:18.320 Let's just say it's Sheen.
00:01:19.900 Let's just say it's Manning.
00:01:21.300 Let's just say it's Griffey or the Jackson family.
00:01:23.900 If your name is from that last name and you are related to that last name, you have an edge on everybody else.
00:01:28.560 Because you get to use your contact and you have access to the resources of the attorneys, the CPAs, the accountants, the agents, the managers, the producers, the directors, the politicians, the senator, the governor.
00:01:40.500 And that can give you an edge on somebody else who doesn't have those resources to start off with.
00:01:45.020 But what if your name doesn't have that lineage?
00:01:47.120 So let's look at another one.
00:01:48.340 Unless if you look like Pamela Anderson and Pamela Anderson, the way she was figured out, she was in Canada at a football game.
00:01:55.700 Boom.
00:01:56.000 Her picture gets on a jumbotron.
00:01:57.980 Some agent likes her, picks her up.
00:02:00.180 Next thing you know, now she's Pamela Anderson, Baywatch, all these other things that she's done.
00:02:03.840 You know, what if you don't look like Pamela Anderson?
00:02:05.680 What if you don't look like Adriana Lima from Victoria's Secret or Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Brinkley, Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey, Clooney, any of these names?
00:02:15.740 What if you don't look like them?
00:02:17.320 What if you're just an average-looking guy or girl?
00:02:19.960 What if you don't have that skin, that body, that height, that, you know, look, that smile, that charm, that dimple?
00:02:25.400 What if you don't look like that?
00:02:26.320 So then what do you do?
00:02:27.860 So someone's going to say, well, I wish I looked like that person.
00:02:30.380 I wish I had that person's body.
00:02:32.300 That's when it comes to the last one.
00:02:33.820 And the last one is something everybody can do.
00:02:35.760 Let me explain to you what I mean by the last one.
00:02:37.440 The last one is voice.
00:02:39.680 Your voice.
00:02:40.460 Not singing voice.
00:02:42.240 Your voice.
00:02:42.980 For instance, Lincoln was a nobody.
00:02:46.320 He grows up in a small place.
00:02:47.840 No one knows who he is.
00:02:49.380 He keeps bringing value to the world.
00:02:52.560 And eventually he has a voice.
00:02:54.700 And then eventually he runs and becomes one of the greatest, some say the greatest president of all time.
00:02:59.820 Because he worked on his voice.
00:03:02.220 You know, what if you are Seneca?
00:03:04.000 You're the founder of Stoicism.
00:03:06.200 And you come out and you start talking about Stoicism.
00:03:08.940 You're teaching Stoicism.
00:03:09.980 And then all of a sudden, Marcus Aurelius picks up your content.
00:03:14.260 And he starts teaching Stoicism.
00:03:16.160 Then his voice.
00:03:17.700 Voice based on the value that you're bringing to the world.
00:03:20.340 Einstein.
00:03:20.860 Your voice.
00:03:21.420 You come out with E equals MC squared.
00:03:24.340 Everybody follows it.
00:03:25.460 How about Solomon Kahn?
00:03:26.580 Kahn Academy.
00:03:27.640 All he wants to do is show math and show all these formulas.
00:03:30.320 And kids are looking at him as an online tutor.
00:03:32.800 And next thing you know, he becomes who he becomes.
00:03:35.140 Or Robert Greene, the author of 40 Laws of Power, who is the modern day Plato or Socrates.
00:03:39.960 Because he's teaching the way he's teaching.
00:03:41.320 So if you spend more time focusing on the value you're providing to the world, more on the value you're increasing to the world, and the results you're bringing to the world, eventually people will know your face.
00:03:53.380 And eventually you will make a name for yourself.
00:03:56.260 But I suggest you focus more on providing value through having a big voice.
00:04:01.180 And eventually from a small community, maybe you only have 17 subscribers on YouTube.
00:04:05.480 You only have 20 fans on Facebook.
00:04:07.260 That's fine.
00:04:08.160 Bring value to your 17 subscribers.
00:04:10.100 Bring value to your 20 fans, your 300 friends, your 500 friends, whatever community you're in.
00:04:15.260 And all of a sudden, people will pick up if you continue to bring in value.
00:04:18.820 People will constantly say, every time I listen to her, I learn something new.
00:04:22.680 Every time I listen to them, I feel better.
00:04:24.340 Every time I listen to them, I get more clear about my fitness, my health, entrepreneurship, business.
00:04:29.860 Whatever your MO is, but it's got to be based on increasing value.
00:04:33.740 You watch the last 100 videos I've put up, you'll never see me starting a video on my name.
00:04:37.820 You know why?
00:04:38.280 Because my name means nothing to you.
00:04:40.100 My name means nothing to you.
00:04:41.400 My name means a lot to me.
00:04:43.140 My name means a lot to my family.
00:04:44.920 Well, my name means nothing to you.
00:04:46.140 However, some of you may watch the video and you may say, who is this guy?
00:04:50.960 Let me go look up who is Patrick B. David.
00:04:52.740 Then you research Patrick B. David.
00:04:54.560 Then you recognize the face.
00:04:56.180 But you don't know the name or the face unless if you see the value that I'm providing to you
00:05:00.320 that you learn from and that becomes a voice that you share with others, then it increases
00:05:04.960 the name.
00:05:05.420 My suggestion to you is find ways to increase the value you're bringing to other people
00:05:11.020 by reading, learning, being curious, absolutely immersing yourself in a subject that you are
00:05:17.340 so curious about.
00:05:18.500 And next thing you know, your following will increase and it'll become a community thing,
00:05:23.700 friends, family, state, country, international.
00:05:27.980 Then everybody knows who you are with the value you're providing to the world.
00:05:31.440 Thanks, everybody, for listening.
