00:00:00.00030 seconds. One time for the underdog. Ignition sequence start. Let me see you put them up. Reach the sky, turn the stars up above. Cause it's one time for the underdog. One time for the underdog.
00:00:17.320I'm Patrick Medevi, your host of Value Tame, and today we're going to talk about three types of goals to be thinking about in 2019.
00:00:22.940It's that time of year where everybody's going to be talking to you about business planning, life planning, what you're going to do with New Year resolution, all that other stuff.
00:00:29.540But look, let me give you some insight about business planning that will hopefully give you some clarity.
00:00:34.800I've seen and read many, many business plans, thousands of business plans I've read in my career, and I can tell you when I knew if a business plan was going to move the individual or not.
00:00:48.840And by the way, I experienced this personally, and that's when I started engaging with other people's business plans that I read.
00:00:55.020I remember the first time I wrote a business plan, it was a homework. It was like, well, I feel like I have to write a business plan.
00:01:00.220Second time, it was same thing. Third, fourth, fifth time. But in 06, I wrote a business plan that got me excited.
00:01:08.660My eyes were like, I was like excited about it. I was like a little kid. I'm like, oh my gosh, next year's going to be an amazing year.
00:01:16.200You know what I'm so excited about the following year? And it made me finish December strong to kick off my following year, which was 07.
00:01:23.300Now, what was it? Look, you know, writing a business plan is almost like writing a novel or writing a paper.
00:01:29.960The more you do it, eventually you get better at it.
00:01:32.440But just like a great story has a plot, has a villain, has a hero, you know, all these things that a great fiction story has, a great business plan has some of those elements as well.
00:01:42.600Let me explain to you what I mean by this.
00:01:44.160When you read a business plan, if the numbers on what you want, like the goals, you know, you got to have three different types of goals on your business plan.
00:01:51.960One is your emotional goal, which is doing something for somebody else.
00:01:55.140This year, if I make a half a million dollars, I'm going to get my mother a car and surprise her on her birthday.
00:02:01.580This year, if I do $7 million of top line revenue, I'm going to go out there and do X, Y, Z for my wife and kids.
00:02:09.000This year, if I do this, I'm going to give $100,000 to charity.
00:02:12.060I'm going to give a half a million dollars to my church.
