The 80/20 rule is the difference between leaders and leaners in your organization. Leadership is not necessarily the stuff you see on the outside, it's what you do behind the scenes. And a leader is constantly striving to be in the 80% and a leaner is constantly trying to be the 1%.
00:00:01.00030 seconds. One time for the underdog. Ignition sequence start. Let me see you put them up. Reach the sky, turn the stars up above. Cause it's one time for the underdog. One time for the underdog.
00:00:17.300I'm Patrick Bedewe, host of Value Team, and today I'm going to share with you the most valuable asset you have in your organization.
00:00:22.100Today I want to talk to you about one of the most frustrating things in leading an organization. If you're a leader yourself, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
00:00:29.400You know, in anywhere you look at, in any business, you'll always get two different kinds of people, leaners and leaders.
00:00:36.620And have you ever met somebody before where you meet with them for the first time and you walk away saying,
00:00:41.400This person is so impressive. I am so impressed with this person. They are so amazing. They can do so well.
00:00:48.700They can do such great things. And then you ask yourself the real question,
00:00:52.600But how come they haven't for, they've been in a workforce for 10 years, 20 years, 30 years.
00:00:56.600Are they just a good talker? Are they just good at selling themselves? But what is it?
00:01:00.980Well, you know, leadership is something that very few people actually see the work of a leader.
00:01:06.160A leader is not necessarily the stuff you see on, you know, out there when everybody's recognizing them.
00:01:11.640They're getting a trophy. Leadership is really what you do behind the scenes.
00:01:14.220And a lot of times, behind the scenes, leaders know the difference between leaders and leaners.
00:01:20.220Okay, there's a lot of people, majority of any organization you're in, majority of them are leaners.
00:01:25.480And a few of the people in the organization are leaders.
00:01:28.460And a lot of times, these leaders inspire the leaners to eventually become leaders.
00:01:31.880Every leader was once a leaner, leading on a leader, leaning on a leader to learn so they can duplicate it.
00:01:36.980But I'll tell you, every time I hire somebody and I bring somebody and I give them a leadership position in the company,
00:01:41.280anything I've done over the years when I hire somebody,
00:01:43.040and I put them in a position where they're leading, I tell them, I say, listen, you are the CEO of this department.
00:01:48.640I'm expecting you to lead this department.
00:01:50.920I'm expecting you to perform in this department.
00:01:53.260I believe you can pull it off, but I want to see you win in this department.
00:01:56.240You're the CEO of the department, so I want you to lead.
00:01:58.500I don't want you to lean on everybody all the time waiting for orders to be given.
00:02:01.760I want you to use your creative thoughts to create things in this department.
