00:00:00.000 If you've looked at this or not, apparently the family's worth $92 billion, give or take.
00:00:04.840 If you type in Khamenei net worth, oh yeah, $95 to $200 billion on the kind of money they've made.
00:00:13.660 So, Vahid, are you saying Vahid could be the, who could he be in the future when Khamenei is no longer here with us?
00:00:22.900 No, Vahid is the decision maker. He will never be...
00:00:25.540 Anything.
00:00:26.080 No, because...
00:00:27.020 He wants to be behind the scenes.
00:00:28.240 He has to be behind the scenes.
00:00:30.000 So, he runs Iran, in other words. 0.79
00:00:31.460 He's the guy who runs the country.
00:00:33.120 He runs Iran. 0.98
00:00:33.880 He runs the country.
00:00:35.740 Have you met him?
00:00:36.580 No, of course not.
00:00:37.660 What do you mean, of course not?
00:00:38.760 No, I'll tell you this.
00:00:40.240 Can you put, just type my name in Google, just put Tawheedi, and then, no, no, no, Tawheedi.
00:00:48.280 Okay, you're going to do that now.
00:00:50.060 Okay, wait, and then next to it, just put Hassan, and then put Khamenei.
00:00:56.800 And Rob is having a rough day today.
00:00:59.180 Not Khamenei, yeah, Khamenei, there you go.
00:01:01.400 Okay, just go, go to images.
00:01:06.140 It should be here somewhere.
00:01:10.500 No, no, go back up and remove the word.
00:01:13.440 No, you put Khamenei with an O.
00:01:15.680 No, no, again, K-H-O-M-E-I-N-I. 1.00
00:01:28.780 There needs to be a picture with him.
00:01:32.320 So, this is, there it is.
00:01:33.980 Wait, fourth one on the left, bottom left, fourth one.
00:01:38.100 Bottom left.
00:01:39.620 My left, my left.
00:01:40.600 There it is.
00:01:44.160 You see those two sitting next to each other?
00:01:46.020 To the left, Rob.
00:01:46.660 To the left.
00:01:47.260 Go up two, and then go left.
00:01:49.400 Left, left, left, up, left.
00:01:52.760 There it is.
00:01:53.600 Okay.
00:01:54.280 So, that's Hassan Khamenei.
00:01:55.380 That is the patriarch of the Khamenei family currently.
00:02:00.400 Oh, so you met with Khamenei's grandson.
00:02:02.260 Of course, I was, you know.
00:02:05.620 That's you and him.
00:02:06.240 You could even consider me somewhat of an advisor to these guys at the time.
00:02:09.920 This is in Rome.
00:02:10.940 This is in Tehran.
00:02:12.040 This is in the shrine of Khamenei in his private residence.
00:02:15.820 Now, I want you to take a look at this picture.
00:02:17.860 By the way, Patrick, I'm not being arrogant here,
00:02:20.160 but I just want you to see what exactly you're looking at
00:02:24.780 so you know who you're doing a podcast with today.
00:02:28.300 How long ago is this?
00:02:29.420 This is 2016.
00:02:30.640 Okay.
00:02:30.820 Zoom into the plates.
00:02:33.760 I see Chai.
00:02:35.000 Okay.
00:02:35.780 What do you see on my plate?
00:02:38.760 No, no, no.
00:02:39.440 Go back, go back, go back, go back.
00:02:42.100 Okay.
00:02:43.020 Stay there.
00:02:44.320 What do you see on my plate?
00:02:47.060 I see tea, but I don't know what that other piece is.
00:02:49.140 It's an orange.
00:02:49.920 Okay.
00:02:50.560 But what am I missing?
00:02:52.980 I'm missing orange peels.
00:02:54.500 Okay.
00:02:57.680 He has the peels.
00:02:58.940 Right.
00:02:59.500 So, he peeled it for you.
00:03:00.640 Correct.
00:03:01.340 I got what you're saying.
00:03:02.820 So, the relationship is, he was serving you.
00:03:09.500 More like being kind and generous.
00:03:11.500 Respect.
00:03:11.980 In a good way.
00:03:13.060 Yeah.
00:03:13.220 Kind.
00:03:13.680 Yeah.
00:03:14.400 How was he?
00:03:15.120 How was Khomeini's grandson?
00:03:16.420 This guy doesn't believe in anything.
00:03:19.600 He's an atheist, in my view.
00:03:21.800 I think he, if he could, he would take out Khomeini.
00:03:24.980 Oh, you're kidding me.
00:03:25.740 Yeah, no, this guy.
00:03:26.780 And he still lives there.
00:03:27.840 Look, I'm saying this.
00:03:28.860 I know this might bother him, but he in no way is a cleric in the same manner as Khomeini.
00:03:37.260 Why do you say that?
00:03:37.920 No, this guy's fed up.
00:03:39.600 His grandfather made the revolution, and he gets no say in governance.
00:03:44.700 They give him a mosque.
00:03:46.920 Here's your grandpa's grave.
00:03:49.560 Go clean and serve it.
00:03:51.980 Yeah.
00:03:52.900 He has no say.
00:03:53.980 He's a teacher.
00:03:55.240 They won't even let him in.
00:03:56.380 They say, in order for you to become on the expert council of Iran, you know, Maj. Khabragan,
00:04:02.360 you need to take a test.
00:04:03.360 And he tells them, I'm the grandson of Khomeini.
00:04:05.240 I take a test?
00:04:06.060 I need to be testing you guys.
00:04:09.180 Right?
00:04:10.540 What's his relationship with Vahid?
00:04:13.420 I mean, it has to be diplomatic.
00:04:15.880 Or else?
00:04:17.600 He's a pragmatic guy.
00:04:19.320 He knows.
00:04:19.940 He knows.
00:04:20.600 Look, Khamenei put his own brother Hadi.
00:04:22.800 Do you want to Google this?
00:04:24.600 Go up to Hadi Khamenei.
00:04:27.780 This is a K-H-A.
00:04:33.200 No, no, no.
00:04:33.900 Hadi with just a H.
00:04:34.800 H-A-D-I-K-H-A-M-E-K-H-A. 1.00
00:04:39.540 M-E. 0.69
00:04:40.820 There you go.
00:04:41.400 It should come up Khamenei.
00:04:42.860 No, no.
00:04:43.420 K-H-A-M-E-N-E-I. 1.00
00:04:46.680 N-E-I. 0.99
00:04:47.540 There you go.
00:04:48.640 No, Hadi.
00:04:49.580 Hadi.
00:04:50.180 So...
00:04:50.620 H-A-D-I-R-A. 1.00
00:04:51.940 The first name is H-A-D-I.
00:04:53.420 Yeah.
00:04:54.360 Okay.
00:04:54.640 This is Khamenei's brother.
00:04:55.720 He was under house arrest.
00:04:57.580 Many people don't know this.
00:05:01.140 Why was he on house arrest?
00:05:02.520 Go down.
00:05:03.400 It should say opposition. 0.69
00:05:06.280 He's a reformist.
00:05:07.180 So Khamenei got his people to attack his own brother.
00:05:11.680 Right?
00:05:13.640 Some conservatives blamed Khamenei for the attack.
00:05:18.040 Right?
00:05:18.640 So this is...
00:05:19.760 Khamenei lives in a world of contradictions.
00:05:21.700 Remember the Ahmadinejad and the green uprisings? 0.99
00:05:25.200 Okay.
00:05:25.600 So Musavi is his cousin.
00:05:28.200 It's Khamenei's cousin. 0.74
00:05:29.060 And he would come out and say Khamenei is corrupt. 0.90
00:05:31.880 His own brother says my brother is corrupt. 0.97
00:05:34.840 His uncle says my nephew is corrupt.
00:05:39.860 His sister's husband who fled to France wrote a letter to Khamenei.
00:05:46.380 He said...
00:05:46.940 To Khamenei, sorry.
00:05:48.260 He said, how dare you appoint my wife's brother as the head of Friday Prayers in Tehran when he is 123?
00:05:56.080 He accused him of being part of the LGBT community.
00:06:00.260 Right?
00:06:00.780 In a letter.
00:06:02.160 And the guy lived in France and then...
00:06:04.360 Yeah.
00:06:04.640 He's dead.
00:06:06.080 But the point is Khamenei is very misunderstood in the West.
00:06:12.940 Misunderstood.
00:06:13.620 Americans don't know who's speaking to their students. 0.99
00:06:15.760 When these uprisings happen in universities and Khamenei puts out a tweet and says, I congratulate the students in America and North America.
00:06:25.940 That's not just foreign interference.
00:06:28.280 Americans don't know what they're looking at. 0.90
00:06:29.760 This is the Shia Osama Bin Laden. 0.97
00:06:31.920 That's exactly how you need to look at him.
00:06:34.880 This is the...
00:06:35.660 Osama Bin Laden was Sunni.
00:06:36.820 He's the Shia version of Osama Bin Laden. 0.99
00:06:39.800 And Khomeini is the Persian Hitler. 0.99
00:06:41.980 That's exactly how you need to look at them. 0.85
00:06:44.180 Khomeini is the Persian Hitler. 1.00
00:06:45.260 A hundred percent.
00:06:46.400 Someone who could execute 30,000 people with no trial?
00:06:49.680 I mean, no comparison.
00:06:50.640 You're looking at the Holocaust, two million more. 0.56
00:06:52.940 But I'm talking about the concept and the will.
00:06:57.680 Okay, you worked for the Shah.
00:06:59.000 What were you, a chef or a driver?
00:07:00.960 Execution.
00:07:01.940 This level of mentality and terrorism we see in the likes of Hitler. 0.93
00:07:06.520 What caused you to leave, though?
00:07:07.940 What caused you to say I'm leaving?
00:07:09.260 Australia.
00:07:09.660 I did not come to the seminary because I didn't have anything else to do with my life.
00:07:17.620 Many of the people who go there go there because you're given a stipend, $30 a month.
00:07:22.440 You're given a room, food, right?
00:07:25.840 And if you memorize the Quran and important books from our corpus, what happens is you get a higher stipend.
00:07:34.180 And of course, with religion comes respect.
00:07:36.160 That's why many people choose to go there.
00:07:39.820 I did not do that.
00:07:41.260 I went to study.
00:07:42.900 I went to, because I'm a third generation imam.
00:07:45.720 I went to increase my education, my theological education.
00:07:50.400 But the minute you tell me I cannot read certain books and I cannot visit certain scholars.
00:07:57.160 You see, I was a fundamentalist.
00:07:59.300 I am a former extremist.
00:08:01.480 I used to support Khamenei. 0.66
00:08:03.320 I used to support these criminals.
00:08:04.740 So, but the thing is, I came from a society that allowed me to read whatever book I wanted to read.
00:08:12.160 And to visit whatever scholar I wanted to visit and sit with.
00:08:15.840 For you to now tell me I cannot do that.
00:08:18.220 I didn't come from Uzbekistan or Pakistan or Iraq like other students were.
00:08:24.220 No, I came from the West.
00:08:25.540 You cannot tell me I can't read certain books.
00:08:27.980 So that triggered it for me.
00:08:29.940 That you, in a classroom that happened where they told you you can't read those books?
00:08:33.060 Oh, no, no, no.
00:08:34.020 What would happen is, I would naturally see signs of scholars in their offices.
00:08:39.560 Daftara, ayatollah, so and so.
00:08:41.440 And I would go to their office and they would give me books.
00:08:44.120 So I would take the books back to the dormitory.
00:08:47.500 And before I knew it, my dormitory was broken into.
00:08:51.260 I was, they searched me when I was praying.
00:08:53.980 You know, congregational prayers.
00:08:56.340 They searched my room.
00:08:58.120 And when I came back, I found everything was not how I left it.
00:09:01.800 And it bothered me.
00:09:04.900 And so I began to understand there's an issue here that I was not aware of.
00:09:08.720 And then I started to investigate who the other clerics were.
00:09:15.940 What was their problem with these clerics?
00:09:17.720 And I found out, you know what?
00:09:18.820 You can still be a good Muslim and reject Khamenei because there are grand ayatollahs who are the grandsons of the prophet who reject him.
00:09:27.600 So I immediately started to visit those guys.
00:09:32.660 And I sat with them and I read their books and I saw, you know, this is exactly what I came here for.
00:09:38.780 Religion.
00:09:39.980 You had me in Al-Mustafa University telling me that Tel Aviv needs to be bombed. 0.80
00:09:45.120 Right? 0.98
00:09:45.660 And dead to America.
00:09:46.860 And dead to the UK. 1.00
00:09:48.720 And the queen is Satan. 1.00
00:09:52.680 Right? 1.00
00:09:53.260 And America is the big Satan. 1.00
00:09:54.880 And Israel is a small Satan. 1.00
00:09:56.020 Satan, I understand your hatred towards them. 0.96
00:09:58.980 But that's not what I came here for.
00:10:00.620 I came to study theology.
00:10:02.600 I found it in the offices of the grand ayatollahs who are opposed to Khamenei.
00:10:09.240 That's when I said, okay, there is more here.
00:10:12.300 So I picked up the phone to my father.
00:10:15.640 I said to Mirin, tell me.
00:10:17.780 He said, well, I wanted you to understand on your own.
00:10:20.380 He knew.
00:10:21.320 My father was in Iran.
00:10:22.420 We moved from Iran to Australia.
00:10:23.720 How high up was your father?
00:10:26.260 You're fourth generation, so.
00:10:27.660 I'm third generation.
00:10:28.760 Third generation.
00:10:29.420 Third generation.
00:10:29.880 Okay.
00:10:30.360 How high up was your father?
00:10:31.960 My father is a community cleric.
00:10:34.880 Okay.
00:10:35.380 Community.
00:10:35.980 I'm not involved in my world at all.
00:10:39.620 But he didn't want to get involved in this type of conversation.
00:10:43.500 But I understood.
00:10:44.580 And when I understood, I said, you know what?
00:10:45.960 I'm not getting involved with these guys anymore.
00:10:49.000 And of course, once they realize that you are no longer subscribed to their ideology, the first thing that happens is that they cancel your visa.
00:10:57.320 Right?
00:10:57.440 Though I was born in Iran, I was there as an Australian citizen.
00:11:00.840 So they cancel your visa.
00:11:02.200 And then you have to figure it out on your own.
00:11:06.560 But my visa still had time.
00:11:09.700 I just did not submit to renew it.
00:11:11.940 I had like eight, nine months left.
00:11:13.760 So what I did was I stayed in Iran and I stayed in another school that was offered, a dormitory that I was offered by these other good clerics.
00:11:26.420 They're all fundamentalists, but they were less corrupt.
00:11:30.200 So their corruption would be financial, wasting money on unnecessary initiatives.
00:11:34.940 It wouldn't be murder and blood and trying to take down the West.
