00:00:00.000 So I want to talk to you about what investors and private equity firms look for when they invest into an entrepreneur.
00:00:04.880 What is it? Is it talent? Is it a degree? Is it brilliance? Is it a team? What are they looking for?
00:00:09.100 Let me unpack this message for you, because this message can make you a lot of money.
00:00:12.400 Look, I had a call this morning with one of my guys, and he's been with me for a long time.
00:00:16.900 Great guy, very good at the business, but him and I were having a conversation together, and he says,
00:00:21.060 Pat, you know, I feel like I don't have access to like I used to have before.
00:00:27.180 And I said, what do you mean by this? He says, I just feel like I don't have access to the way I did before.
00:00:30.340 I said, do you want more access? He says, yes.
00:00:32.100 I said, you have access. If you call me, do I ever not respond? He says, no.
00:00:35.080 I said, what makes you think you don't have access?
00:00:36.620 He says, I just feel like you're so busy, and I can't get a hold of you.
00:00:40.460 I said, have you ever had a problem getting a hold of me? He says, no.
00:00:42.760 I said, okay. I said, let me flip it on you as well. He says, what's that?
00:00:46.180 I said, I feel like I have to constantly motivate you.
00:00:49.880 He says, what do you mean? I said, I feel like for 12 years, I've had to motivate you every day.
00:00:54.200 I said, hey, how much longer do I need to motivate you?
00:00:57.320 I said, what else do I need to motivate you with?
00:01:00.040 He says, where are you going with this?
00:01:01.240 I said, look, when it comes down to an investor, I said, think about you have a billion dollars of money,
00:01:08.560 and you're trying to put it into an entrepreneur or a business.
00:01:11.700 What kind of entrepreneur do you want?
00:01:13.700 He says, I don't know.
00:01:14.960 I said, unpack it for me. Tell me.
00:01:16.620 Well, I'd want to invest into an entrepreneur that knows where he's going.
00:01:21.040 Great. What else?
00:01:21.680 I want to invest into an entrepreneur that has a niche.
00:01:24.480 What else?
00:01:24.920 I want to invest into an entrepreneur that has a unique proposition against his competitors.
00:01:29.140 What else?
00:01:29.800 I want to invest into an entrepreneur that has a good team.
00:01:31.940 What else?
00:01:32.740 He says, I said, do you want to invest into an entrepreneur that you have to call every single day for him to go to work and be motivated?
00:01:37.860 No.
00:01:38.500 I said, you want to invest into an entrepreneur that's what?
00:01:41.280 Self-motivated.
00:01:42.480 Because the greatest motivational speakers of all time are self-motivated people.
00:01:47.460 Here's how the phase of motivation works.
00:01:49.100 There is nothing wrong with you watching this right now and saying, Pat, I watch you because I need the direction.
00:01:55.460 I need the challenge. 1.00
00:01:56.540 I need somebody to kick my ass. 1.00
00:01:58.340 I need somebody to motivate me. 1.00
00:02:00.400 Nothing wrong with that.
00:02:01.800 But if you need this for 20, 30 years, there's a problem.
00:02:05.960 If you need this forever, there's a problem.
00:02:08.180 Why would somebody invest into a company that is going to go out there and make money on the money that they're investing into a company if this person needs to be motivated all the time?
00:02:16.580 That doesn't make any sense.
00:02:18.040 I mean, you have to realize at some point, you've got to come up with a formula to self-motivate yourself.
00:02:23.040 I get a lot of messages.
00:02:24.040 People say, Pat, I've got to tell you, man, I sleep in a lot and I'm lazy.
00:02:29.480 And what do I need to do to get motivated?
00:02:31.660 Please say something to motivate me.
00:02:33.360 I don't respond back to those messages.
00:02:34.900 If you send a message like that, that you want somebody to motivate you, I'm not the right guy for you because I don't work with the people that I need to motivate.
00:02:43.700 I work with the self-motivated.
00:02:45.680 You're going to drive yourself insane sucking out all the energy if you constantly have to motivate everybody.
00:02:53.080 Now, think about it this way.
00:02:54.860 When you hear about the biggest private equity guys in the marketplace, you'll hear them tell a story.
00:03:00.060 Give him a half a million dollars.
00:03:01.800 Hey, give him some direction, encouragement, some advice.
00:03:04.520 He came to us when he needed advice.
00:03:06.180 Next thing you know, he built Facebook.
00:03:07.820 My half a million dollars now were $2.2 billion.
00:03:10.880 I gave this guy half a million dollars. 0.94
00:03:13.020 He was crazy. 0.94
00:03:13.900 I barely heard from him.
00:03:14.880 But every time we did a conference call with the numbers, the company kept growing.
00:03:17.960 And as much as he was growing, he was pissed off that he wasn't growing enough.
00:03:21.680 We didn't say anything.
00:03:22.680 We're like, man, you've grown plenty.
00:03:24.340 We're happy with the returns you're bringing.
00:03:26.000 But we were quiet.
00:03:27.280 And I was like, we've already made 10 times the money we put in.
00:03:29.900 That was kind of our plans.
00:03:30.780 But you just turned our half a million dollars into $628 million.
00:03:34.520 And we're just sitting there.
00:03:35.480 Every time we were on the conference call, we were nervous for you because you were so unhappy.
00:03:38.480 And you kind of constantly wanted to grow it.
00:03:40.380 That's a self-motivated investor.
00:03:42.300 Can you imagine you're investing to somebody saying, you can do it, Bobby.
00:03:45.200 Go get him today.
00:03:46.680 You can do it, Jack.
00:03:48.100 Yes, we believe in you, buddy.
00:03:49.820 Email, text.
00:03:50.860 Phenomenal.
00:03:51.380 Make a video.
00:03:52.240 Gift, gift, gift, gift, gift.
00:03:54.780 Eventually, you've got to be self-motivated.
00:03:57.000 So if you're watching this yourself saying, man, did somebody do something to Pat?
00:04:01.360 Did somebody piss off Pat?
00:04:02.780 No.
00:04:03.460 It's not about somebody piss off Pat.
00:04:04.920 Believe me.
00:04:05.720 Go spend some time with my dad.
00:04:07.120 Look what he'll tell you.
00:04:08.540 I wasn't the most self-motivated guy.
00:04:10.480 The only thing I was motivated by was having a nicer physique so I can have more women. 1.00
00:04:15.960 That is the only thing I was motivated about.
00:04:18.280 Money, success, business, discipline.
00:04:21.440 No.
00:04:22.240 I slept in.
00:04:23.520 I went to Vegas.
00:04:24.640 I partied.
00:04:25.140 All of that stuff.
00:04:26.480 And I was the one that, I don't really know.
00:04:28.000 Pat doesn't really have any direction.
00:04:29.480 He's not really any direction in life.
00:04:31.240 Maybe I'm going to get back in the military.
00:04:32.800 Maybe I'm going to be a cop.
00:04:34.020 Boom.
00:04:34.660 All of a sudden.
00:04:35.660 I said, I'm going to motivate me.
00:04:38.800 The number one person's responsibility to motivate PBD in the morning is PBD.
00:04:45.400 If it's on you, think about it. 0.98
00:04:47.240 If it's on anybody else to motivate you and that person dies, you're screwed. 0.98
00:04:51.420 You understand what I'm saying to you. 0.98
00:04:53.700 Like, and by the way, don't get me wrong.
00:04:56.140 I have kids.
00:04:57.100 I got to encourage them.
00:04:58.200 I got to motivate.
00:04:58.700 They're kids.
00:05:01.140 I got to encourage, you know, my family, my wife.
00:05:06.440 Hey, we've gone.
00:05:07.400 Like, by the way, if you're going through a process of having a new kid and you've never
00:05:10.060 had a kid before, you need motivation.
00:05:11.920 You're a baby.
00:05:12.700 Having a baby.
00:05:13.380 Like, you've never had a baby.
00:05:14.360 Yes, you need encouragement in that area.
00:05:16.620 But in every aspect of your life, can you imagine meeting to call a 60-year-old mother
00:05:21.140 to tell them, hey, you can do it.
00:05:23.760 This 60-year-old mother has a 40-year-old daughter and I'm calling, you can do it.
00:05:27.060 You can do it.
00:05:28.940 You've been a mom for 40 years.
00:05:31.020 You're going to be all right.
00:05:32.500 That grandma's probably going to be offended. 1.00
00:05:34.800 That mother's going to be like, what are you talking about? 0.71
00:05:36.380 Somebody has to, you watching this here, if you want somebody to say, man, I'm going
00:05:43.160 to invest into you, go do whatever you can to come up with a formula to self-motivate
00:05:47.660 yourself, okay?
00:05:48.960 Get clear about your vision.
00:05:50.640 And by the way, for some of you to say, I don't have a reason to get motivated.
00:05:53.800 Are you kidding me, Jordan? 0.99
00:05:54.980 Look for the dumbest reasons to get motivated. 1.00
00:05:57.740 A guy walked into a restaurant, didn't say hi to him, George Carl, he's motivated to kill 1.00
00:06:02.860 this guy.
00:06:03.500 A guy walks past him and says, good game.
00:06:07.840 He never really said good game, but in his mind, he said he did say good game.
00:06:11.540 He comes back and crushes him in the next game.
00:06:13.540 What do you mean, good game?
00:06:14.360 I don't really know if he said it.
00:06:16.240 Guy comes, BJ Armstrong, beats him with the Hornets, and he starts celebrating, jumping
00:06:21.140 up and down, and he says in the interview, you know, BJ knows we play together.
00:06:25.900 He must have forgotten how we are.
00:06:27.200 You just don't do something like that.
00:06:28.880 You know what I'm supposed to do to this guy? 1.00
00:06:30.320 I'm supposed to kill this guy. 0.99
00:06:31.820 That's exactly what we did. 1.00
00:06:32.820 We kill them. 1.00
00:06:34.160 You have some, your ex said stuff about you. 1.00
00:06:37.180 Former employer says something about you.
00:06:38.920 A competitor says something about you.
00:06:40.580 You heard a whisper. 0.99
00:06:41.720 Damn it, you heard a rumor. 1.00
00:06:42.760 It's a lie. 1.00
00:06:43.220 Believe it.
00:06:44.360 Use it.
00:06:45.780 Do something with it to piss you off and get motivated.
00:06:51.100 There are millions of reasons to find to be self-motivated.
00:06:55.660 And eventually, people around you are going to say, dude, I love working with that guy. 1.00
00:07:00.480 He's a freaking crazy psycho. 0.99
00:07:02.340 Whatever they're going to call you. 1.00
00:07:04.000 But I don't want to, this guy's going places.
00:07:05.740 I just want to be around him.
00:07:06.460 I just want to work with him.
00:07:07.560 You know what they're really saying?
00:07:08.680 I want to be around a self-motivated guy because it's hard to find a self-motivated guy or gal.
00:07:12.860 So whatever you're doing today, guess what?
00:07:15.180 Come up with a formula to go be self-motivated today and the rest of the year.
00:07:20.280 Not because of a motivational speaker.
00:07:22.880 Nothing wrong if you want to listen to this content to get drops on strategy out of it.
00:07:26.780 Strategy I have nothing against.
00:07:28.100 Reading books, nothing against.
00:07:29.760 Vision, nothing against.
00:07:31.380 Hacks, nothing against that. 1.00
00:07:32.800 All of that stuff is strategy.
00:07:34.560 But eventually, my goal is for you no longer to need motivation.
00:07:37.420 Valuetainment is not a motivational channel.
00:07:39.040 Valuetainment is not a motivational speaker channel.
00:07:43.140 You know, it's not, hey, I want to go out there.
00:07:44.800 You come in.
00:07:45.200 This is not our, there's many other channels like that.
00:07:47.360 It's not this one.
00:07:48.200 Matter of fact, Valuetainment may be the channel you'll come and watch and get offended a couple times.
00:07:52.240 But I don't wake up in the morning to want to please everybody.
00:07:54.740 I'm not trying to offend you.
00:07:55.940 I just talk this way.
00:07:57.580 And if it bothers you and some people say, I don't like his style, I totally respect it.
00:08:00.680 Go to a different person's style.
00:08:02.600 Go to somebody that tells you how amazing you are and they play the WUSA game with you.
00:08:06.080 Completely fine with me. 0.99
00:08:07.140 But if you're here, it's because every once in a while you like an ass kicking. 0.99
00:08:11.960 And you want it. 0.99
00:08:13.220 That's what you want.
00:08:14.140 No problem. 0.99
00:08:15.160 What I'm trying to tell you is, how about instead of you needing an ass kicking from me, how about let's go kick some ass together? 0.99
00:08:20.840 Is that okay with you? 0.99
00:08:21.860 That's all I'm trying to tell you.
00:08:23.160 So figure out a way to go out there and be self-motivated and watch magic happen for the rest of your life.
00:08:28.380 And by the way, by the way, if you're watching this right now saying, Pat, how do I improve my work ethic?
00:08:34.060 Go watch this video.
00:08:34.940 I did this video, I think, four or five years ago titled, How to Improve Your Work Ethic.
00:08:39.600 If you've never watched it, go at least watch this video on how you can start working harder.
00:08:43.800 And to all the people that don't want to work past five o'clock, it ain't for you, the 459 community. 0.99
00:08:48.540 This is for the people that want to be self-motivated to work their asses off.
00:08:51.480 If that's you, go watch this video.
00:08:52.980 So, everybody else, have a wonderful day.
00:08:54.860 And if you're not subscribed to the channel, do so.
00:08:57.080 Take care, everybody.
00:08:57.820 Bye-bye.
00:08:58.080 Bye-bye.
