Valuetainment - ＂Paying For Butt Space？＂ - Plus Sized Passengers OUTRAGED Over Airline’s ‘Fat Shaming’ Policy

00:00:00.000 Extremely important for those of you guys that travel, especially if you travel Southwest.

00:00:03.300 I know how painful this is for some of you.

00:00:04.820 Painful.

00:00:05.100 And some of you guys, it's a warning because some people are going to think this is discriminating.

00:00:09.760 But Southwest rolls out new conditions for plus-size passengers refunds.

00:00:16.380 Starting January 27th, when flights with assigned seating being taken off,

00:00:21.360 plus-size passengers should proactively purchase the needed number of seats prior to travel

00:00:26.800 to ensure the additional adjacent seat is available, as stated on Southwest Airlines' website,

00:00:31.320 to advise potential customers, Southwest's website lists a seat width on the Boeing 737 models.

00:00:38.860 It flies from 15 1⁄2 inches at the narrows to 17.8 inches at the widest with the arms at the definite seat boundary.

00:00:49.560 Jeff Jenkins, founder of plus-size travel blog Chubby Diaries, told USA Today,

00:00:54.560 I just hope the consumers are aware of this change, and I wonder if plus-size people will skip out on flying with them at all 1.00

00:01:01.200 because of them not knowing if the flight is sold out or not, expressing concerns.

00:01:06.060 Rob, do you want to play this clip?

00:01:07.520 I think that this policy change risks increasing body shame.

00:01:11.300 We already know that plus-size passengers are, you know, verbally harassed, are videotaped,

00:01:17.520 are sometimes even physically assaulted on flights.

00:01:20.200 Southwest Airlines is changing a long-standing policy for plus-size travelers.

00:01:25.220 For years, quote, customers of size were encouraged to buy two seats, then apply for a refund after their trip,

00:01:32.600 a process that had fewer restrictions on when refunds would be provided.

00:01:37.620 But starting January 27th, refunds will only be granted if three conditions are met.

00:01:43.040 The flight must depart with at least one open seat, both seats must be in the same fare class,

00:01:49.640 and refund requests must be filed within 90 days of travel.

00:01:53.840 The refund policy is going to be so much more restricted to you only being able to get a refund for your second seat

00:01:59.940 if the flight was not full, which many Southwest flights are full.

00:02:04.460 This is not a policy that was bankrupting Southwest, and therefore they've changed it.

00:02:08.540 It's part of their, you know, whole package of sort of nickeling and diming customers more.

00:02:12.800 The updated policy goes into effect the same day the airline switches to assigned seating on all of its flights.

00:02:20.540 The question always comes down to, do you believe that people who are traveling by plane

00:02:26.360 are paying for passage from point A to point B, or do you believe that they're paying for, like, butt space?

00:02:33.420 Southwest was the best thing that we had for somebody who either couldn't afford to pay for a second seat up front,

00:02:38.520 I don't understand this, like, can you press pause right there?

00:02:52.280 So, if you live in a, if you got a family of five, can you fit in a one-bedroom apartment?

00:03:01.040 Probably not. You probably need three bedrooms. 0.73

00:03:03.740 Are you taking too much space? Is that fat shaming?

00:03:06.840 So, what do we call that? Big family shaming? Procreating shaming?

00:03:11.920 What do we call that thing? Is there shaming going there?

00:03:14.860 No. Somebody wants to have more kids? You want to eat more.

00:03:19.120 You know, one is not 300 pounds by accident.

00:03:22.460 It just doesn't happen.

00:03:23.840 Whenever I'm out of shape, it didn't accidentally happen, and I'm out of shape.

00:03:27.700 I got out of shape, okay?

00:03:29.420 And if you put on weight on any of this stuff, so I kind of like what Southwest is doing here.

00:03:33.860 I do think the problem is going to be the following. Say you don't buy the extra ticket, Vinny.

00:03:38.440 Yeah.

00:03:39.080 Just visually go with me.

00:03:40.360 Okay. I'm not big.

00:03:41.920 You're big.

00:03:42.660 Okay.

00:03:42.860 You're above the 17.9 inches.

00:03:45.580 Yeah. So, you're big. That's right. And we're outside before you get on.

00:03:50.540 Okay.

00:03:50.840 Okay?

00:03:51.900 Everybody knows this is the new rule.

00:03:54.240 Yeah.

00:03:54.980 So, you got 300 passengers in line. They're all pointing at you.

00:03:58.800 Yeah.

00:03:59.460 And they're just waiting to see who's going to be sitting next to that person.

00:04:04.100 And you go up, and they notice you've only bought one ticket.

00:04:08.940 Uh-oh.

00:04:09.300 Some of the most viral videos the next three to six months are going to be those, what

00:04:15.620 do you call it, the rage. How dare you call me plus. This is body shaming. It's going

00:04:22.300 to happen.

00:04:22.800 Oh, a thousand percent.

00:04:23.780 And you know, this is going to be rough, though.

00:04:25.760 What?

00:04:27.840 Visually, you're going to have to go there.

00:04:29.080 Yeah.

00:04:29.520 Okay. You ready for this one?

00:04:30.840 Go.

00:04:31.160 Vinny, I promise you, you're visually going to go there.

00:04:33.620 Okay.

00:04:34.580 You know, when you bring these things, the bags, and you say, no, it's going to fit

00:04:37.540 in this thing. And you're pushing it, pushing it in there.

00:04:39.600 Oh, yeah.

00:04:41.140 So, you're going to have to push people. Say, no, my hips fit.

00:04:44.220 Are we going to have a measuring device at 17.8 inches?

00:04:48.140 Honey, can you push me?

00:04:50.460 Excuse me. If you can't fit in here, you can't get on.

00:04:53.780 Oh, my God.

00:04:54.360 So, now imagine that you jump in it, but the things rolls up.

00:04:57.560 Oh, man.

00:04:58.880 Like, you know what I'm saying? If it rolls up, so you're like, no, I'm good. They're

00:05:01.100 like, no, but this is going to fall on somebody.

00:05:02.700 Yeah, I'm going to hold my hips.

00:05:04.380 I think this is going to be such negative blowback, whatever you want to call it, on

00:05:10.580 Southwest with videos going viral, but it's going to be some of the most embarrassing.

00:05:15.720 It may cause people to want to go on Southwest flights for no reason just to see people there.

00:05:20.540 Like, can you imagine? You book a flight. You're like, oh, I want to see what's going

00:05:23.060 to happen to this person. Record, record. It's going to go viral. Get it. She's screaming 1.00

00:05:27.100 through her flip-flop.

00:05:28.420 Right?

00:05:28.620 Right? Yep.

00:05:31.500 It's going to be.

00:05:32.040 Matter of fact, we're going to fly Southwest to Orlando. That's what we're going to do.

00:05:34.560 Let's do it.

00:05:34.960 Yeah.

00:05:35.280 We're going to sell.

00:05:35.620 I just bring the camera crew with us.

00:05:36.820 Go ahead, Tom.

00:05:37.760 No, so Southwest did it to itself because what it did is it said, okay, plus size passengers

00:05:44.820 had to buy two tickets. This is a fact. And I've known people that had to do this. Nice

00:05:51.880 people, people that were respectful, but, you know, were not, had arrived at a condition

00:05:57.100 for whatever reason, and they buy two tickets. What Southwest would say previously, remember,

00:06:02.920 there's no assigned seating on Southwest, so they just sit down. You know, so they take

00:06:06.300 the window in the middle and they say, they show, I've paid for two. I've seen it. Now,

00:06:11.300 if the flight was not sold out, in other words, there was space, then Southwest would refund

00:06:18.400 the second ticket because they say, well, we didn't sell out the flight. The seat would

00:06:22.000 have been there anyway, and you got to use it. That, I think, was a mistake for Southwest.

00:06:26.660 I agree. I'm with that. If I'm doing it the right way, and I'm being respectful, and you

00:06:31.840 don't give that back to me, and you still take that money, I'm not okay with that.

00:06:35.800 Yeah, and so everybody else, you know, nobody else gets to go on and says, wait a minute,

00:06:40.660 my carry-on was only four pounds because it's just my laptop. Should you give me part of

00:06:45.120 my ticket back because Vinny's got a backpack and a giant laptop? You know? No. So that

00:06:52.040 was the old way. The old way, they buy two tickets on there, call Southwest. Hey, there

00:06:55.480 is open seats, and so can I get refunded? Now they're saying with assigned seating, this

00:07:00.820 is more difficult. Now you need assigned seating. Make sense? So the flight attendants can't 0.98

00:07:06.060 say, well, you could sit there, and you could sit there, and you can move here, and you can

00:07:09.080 move here. Because there's been situations, you see people traveling with kids, and someone's

00:07:13.760 in group C, a lady with a kid, and says, hey, I got a six-year-old girl here. I don't 1.00

00:07:17.540 want to put her in the middle seat between these two people she doesn't know. And somebody 0.98

00:07:21.360 says, hey, could you move? And they do it nicely, and so the flight attendants do it. 0.92

00:07:24.980 Well, now you've got assigned seats, and you're going to have a business class and a regular

00:07:28.420 class. So now Southwest is, they painted themselves kind of in a corner, where now it makes it look

00:07:34.020 like they're taking something away when they were giving something beneficial to people

00:07:38.700 out of their own sort of activism, rather than saying, hey, you're larger, you paid

00:07:46.360 for two seats. Okay, fine.

00:07:47.520 And you know what? And here's the thing, what nobody's really talking about. How about get

00:07:52.240 your ass in shape? Like the fact that we're at the point where you're just like not even 1.00

00:07:56.260 trying to change, it's not like she caught fat. You know what I mean? You didn't just

00:08:01.300 catch it. You know what I mean? Bro, I got hit, dude. You know what? Blue Ocean

00:08:04.780 strategy. I don't know where I got caught by that fat bug. Somebody out there should open

00:08:07.060 up a freaking airline and call it Big Booty Air or Big Ass Air. No seats. Just get all 1.00

00:08:11.860 the big ass people in there. Throw snacks, some sodas, and be like, guys, eat crap, do 0.99

00:08:16.520 whatever, lay on each other. We're going to be in Vegas in 45 minutes. It's like, that should

00:08:20.360 be motivating you instead of sitting there complaining about, my hip is going to be, I'm not

00:08:25.960 going to pay. How about get in shape? Get in shape. I know that there's some people

00:08:29.280 out there that have a disease. You know how small the bathrooms are, right? They're 1.00

00:08:31.920 small. I was on a Southwest flight. I think it was a miracle. This enormously large guy

00:08:36.240 goes in the bathroom. I didn't know how he fit in there. He get in there and they close

00:08:39.720 the door. He comes out five minutes later. He was still square for a while. Like a

00:08:44.720 pack, like a cookie dough in a freaking tube. Oh, what? No, that was great. Big Booty 0.98

00:08:50.580 Airlines. This is what they call Big Booty Air. Body shaming. Adam. You guys are body

00:08:54.760 shaming today. Are you comfortable talking about this? I'm very comfortable. Well, this

00:08:58.860 whole coddling of the American mind and using terms that are inclusive, it's like, you're

00:09:03.280 not plus sized. You're not full figured. You're just fat. You're obese. What figure, what are

00:09:09.680 you, a hexagon? So all these words that have been changed, all these words that have been

00:09:14.860 changed, you know, you're no longer a, you're no longer a woman. You're a birthing person. 0.93

00:09:19.960 Yeah. You know, you have a front hole, not a uterus anymore. They're not, they're not illegal 1.00

00:09:24.620 aliens. They're newcomers. Welcome. Come on in. Here's your EBD card. I'm spherically 0.97

00:09:31.200 enhanced. There you go, Tom. All these things. You're not homeless. You're unhoused. Just

00:09:36.080 stop it. You're big. You're fat. You're ugly. Deal with it. What's happened is people want

00:09:41.340 to use inclusive language and they want to feel like everyone wants to feel to protect

00:09:45.700 your feelings and safe spaces. And I get it. But what happens is you create an entire civilization,

00:09:51.780 a generation of soft individuals. We see the stories about kids bringing their parents

00:09:57.680 to job interviews, right? It's like you're, you're raising these kids to be completely

00:10:03.240 soft. What's happening also is shaming needs to be okay. Dude, you are fat. Get in the

00:10:09.300 gym. Like you just said, I'll tell you one last story. As far as like you said, it could

00:10:13.400 be a business model about getting your money back. If you're sitting next to a big fat person

00:10:17.860 on a plane, one, one time before we started flying private, things are going, we're awarded

00:10:22.760 a value attainment world. Uh, we flew out to LA. It was me, you and Tigran. I don't know

00:10:27.380 if you remember. And, uh, you were sitting at the front Tigran. I don't know where he was

00:10:31.160 sitting, but I was in the back PVD and I told him, put them all the way in the back

00:10:36.300 by the bathroom. I was, I was all the way back there. I really was. And I said, at the

00:10:39.740 very least, get me a window seat. And there it was, you know, like you think you have

00:10:43.800 the middle seat open and then it's like, well, we're done loading with the passengers.

00:10:47.840 We got to come over the passengers. And then you see her big Bertha coming down the aisle. 1.00

00:10:52.300 I'm looking around. I see every seat taken and I see a middle seat next to me. And it's

00:10:57.260 just like, boom, boom. Here she comes. I'm like, oh, she's coming this way. And then it's

00:11:02.340 like, excuse me. Oh, you're next to my seat. I'm like, oh, Tigran comes to the bathroom about

00:11:08.160 an hour later. He sees me. I'm like in the window. He just laughs at me. I would have got

00:11:13.680 a refund for that according to Southwest Airlines. Yeah. I mean, because big girls need love 1.00

00:11:17.540 too, but not fun to sit next to that lady. On a serious angle, a serious number, you 1.00

00:11:23.420 talk about number scream, Tom, how many percent of Americans are obese? 45%. 42% of Americans.

00:11:29.960 That's 141 million Americans are obese. 10% are severely obese. All right. And kids and teens

00:11:38.420 ages two to 19, 20% of the kids are obese and it's borderline getting big fat people

00:11:46.260 in this country. I'm sorry. It is what it is. Get your ass in shape. And by the way, when

00:11:49.800 a kid, when you see a kid, Pat, when you see a, uh, a six year old, seven year old, like

00:11:54.920 that's child abuse. He's not, what are you feeding that kid? This is why, well, this is

00:11:59.580 why RFK is so against what we're feeding kids. Speaking of RFK, do you remember the video you

00:12:03.620 showed one time? Get the soda machines out of schools of JFK and saying basically

00:12:09.840 like our kids are, have not, uh, used to go to the gym. Our kids are getting fat

00:12:14.020 now and we need a kid who can do a pushup and a sit up. Uh, we've got, we've gained

00:12:18.780 so much weight. We've gained so much weight as a country in the last 50 years that

00:12:24.400 this is sort of the ramifications of the decisions. I don't want to spend this much

00:12:28.040 time on these stories. I'm going to go through it faster. But the point is this is

00:12:31.580 happening. It's real causing Southwest airlines to expose it because it's costing

00:12:37.260 them money. They need to make money. But at the same time, unfortunately, it's also

00:12:42.720 the reason why so many people are using GLP ones. It's also why it was Zempick is on

00:12:47.420 fire right now. I see some people I haven't seen for a year. I see them. I'm like, I

00:12:51.000 don't even recognize you. Yeah. What happened to you? And I'm like, Jen's like, babe, did

00:12:56.820 you see that? Yeah. Is that her sister or is that her? No, that's her. Wow.

00:13:01.040 Now they split in half. Yeah. And I know it's not because they're 24 seven

00:13:06.220 working at four or five o'clock in the morning training. It's a shortcut system is

00:13:09.800 also there. So you want me to not body, body shame. I'll take the pill, but I'm not

00:13:14.160 going to the gym. There's never been more of a time to have data to help you be

00:13:19.280 healthier than today. Never. This is the best time ever to be healthy. The data is

00:13:23.580 out there. Once a year we get together. I can't wait to see everybody this year.

00:15:21.420 at the boardroom, obviously on the other side. And then platinum will be on the

00:15:24.660 back. The members, boardroom members. But you'll get a chance to actually see the

00:15:28.780 cigar lounge. This is the manual, by the way. Rob, if you want to play this clip,
