00:01:51.740 People saw him before the debate, and he was fine.
00:01:54.520 I wouldn't say it was Winston Churchill, but he was fine.
00:01:57.000 He was all right.
00:01:57.900 He went to a Waffle House that night.
00:01:59.560 Yeah.
00:02:00.140 I mean, so she said he had a stroke, but why would she bring him to a Waffle House if he had a stroke?
00:02:05.360 Would your wife have allowed you to go off to a Waffle House if she thought you were having a stroke?
00:02:09.940 Even in good times.
00:02:11.700 You know, although I would actually.
00:02:13.460 It's not so bad.
00:02:14.300 You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
00:02:18.200 Good Thursday morning.
00:02:19.080 Nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update.
00:02:21.320 And we've got two major stories for you this morning.
00:02:23.600 First up, federal agents arrest a major tech boss charged with illegally supplying Iran.
00:02:30.200 This coming out of California.
00:02:32.100 So how did he get away with the scheme for so long?
00:02:34.320 And was it as simple as Democrats just look the other way?
00:02:37.380 We have the details.
00:02:38.840 Also, Democrats are now seeking to undo a Trump tough strategy on green card policy.
00:02:46.540 This could close a loophole that hundreds of thousands are using.
00:02:50.420 So why are the Democrats doing this right now, putting illegals ahead of Americans?
00:02:54.620 We'll have those details as well.
00:02:56.620 Now, before we get to that, I also want to take a moment and talk to you about the work
00:02:59.700 that is being done by Compassion International and the incredible impact that so many of
00:03:04.820 you are already having.
00:03:06.220 Love, generosity, and compassion.
00:03:08.620 We say those words all the time, and they sound good.
00:03:11.800 They feel good.
00:03:12.800 But here's the truth.
00:03:14.060 Those words don't mean anything unless they turn into action.
00:03:18.280 And right now, not later today, not tomorrow, there's a child in the world who doesn't know
00:03:24.760 if they'll eat, if they'll have a chance to learn, or if there's any hope at all.
00:03:30.960 And while we're all busy, life keeps moving forward, but that child is waiting.
00:03:36.820 This is where you come in.

00:03:43.980 with words not with promises but with real help that provides food education and hope through
00:03:51.020 local churches and people already in their community put your words into action and join me
00:03:58.340 introduce a child to a loving heavenly father today at compassion.com that's compassion.com
00:04:06.980 it's the 47 morning update and it starts right now story number one we're going to start with
00:04:12.700 a very interesting story. Federal agents arresting a Newport Beach, California businessman. It was
00:04:19.440 happening all during a pre-dawn raid at his, not home, but mansion on Wednesday. And they charged
00:04:25.820 him with illegally supplying U.S. origin computer hardware directly to Tehran. And what was it being
00:04:33.440 used for? In military and nuclear operations. That according to federal prosecutors. Jamshid
00:04:40.940 Gomi is a 63-year-old and a dual citizen of Iran and the United States. He was taken into custody
00:04:47.800 during the FBI raid. The New York Post has also reported. Now, he's been charged with conspiracy
00:04:53.340 to violate the International Emergency Economy Powers Act and is expected to make his initial
00:04:59.420 appearance Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Santa Ana, California. Prosecutors are alleging
00:05:05.840 that the man not only sold computer hardware to the Iranian government through a year-long scheme
00:05:11.980 designed to evade U.S. sanctions, earning millions of dollars in the process. Gomi is accused of
00:05:19.020 aiding our declared enemies by selling U.S. origin computer networking parts to Iran and earning
00:05:25.600 millions of dollars in violation of U.S. sanction laws. That's what the U.S. attorney said in his
00:05:30.600 statement. We will hold him accountable by seeking an appropriate prison sentence and by seizing
00:05:35.760 his assets including his 35 million dollar Newport Beach mansion now dozens of federal agents and
00:05:44.620 tactical gear gathered before dawn at a nearby parking lot before traveling in a convoy to the
00:05:50.540 residents located within an exclusive gated community agents surrounded the property and
00:05:56.160 called for Gomi to come outside what's going on one occupant of the home asked as agents
00:06:01.880 escorted Gomi's wife and two adult sons outside as well. Investigators carrying power tools and
00:06:08.280 evidence boxes entered the residence while an interpreter arrived to interview Gomi.
00:06:13.900 After the interview, Gomi emerged from the home and was taken into custody. Now, in addition to
00:06:19.220 the sanctions-related charges, authorities said they are investigating Gomi for possible money
00:06:24.260 laundering, tax evasion, and other offenses. According to prosecutors, Gomi generated more
00:06:30.060 than $10 million annually through his computer business, while reporting no more than $20,000
00:06:36.420 in income to the Internal Revenue Service.
00:06:39.520 Federal investigators allege that for more than a decade, Gomi used a Tehran-based computer
00:06:45.260 networking company he founded to obtain U.S. networking equipment for customers in Iran
00:06:50.760 in violation of the U.S. sanctions.
00:06:53.560 Authorities say Gomi arranged shipments of more than 250 tons of controlled U.S. technology
00:07:00.760 and used his personal eBay and PayPal accounts to make hundreds of additional purchases
00:07:06.720 of computer networking equipment that was ultimately shipped directly to Iran.
00:07:12.100 Prosecutors also say negotiated purchases directly with suppliers in Minnesota and Nebraska,
00:07:18.000 routing equipment at a front company in the UAE before it was sent on to Iran.
00:07:23.560 Authorities also alleged he used freight forwarders and intermediaries in Dubai to conceal Iran as the final destination, knowing that he was breaking the law.
00:07:34.080 According to the prosecutors, Gomi and his co-conspirators referred to Iran as the motherland in internal communications related to the procurement of the equipment.
00:07:43.480 The technology allegedly supplied by Gomi was distributed to hundreds of Iranian companies and government entities, many of which were already subject to U.S. sanctions.
00:07:53.400 Prosecutors said a portion of the equipment was supplied to organize connected individuals
00:07:58.740 in Iran's nuclear and military programs as well.
00:08:02.200 And that may be the most shocking part of all. 0.78
00:08:04.860 Gomi's most prominent asset was his more than 14,000 square foot mansion.
00:08:11.200 It was situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
00:08:14.260 The property featured iron gates, multiple chandeliers, and dual fountains at the entrance
00:08:20.380 to impress, well, anyone that decided to come visit.
00:08:23.580 The prosecutor said the arrests demonstrated
00:08:25.800 the federal government's commitment to enforcing sanctions
00:08:28.860 as the United States continues military operations against Iran.
00:08:33.080 And there is a question that you should be asking.
00:08:35.340 How did this guy get away with this for so long?
00:08:37.420 Well, to be clear, the prior administration, the Biden administration,
00:08:41.300 they didn't lift the sanctions on Iran.
00:08:42.980 They just deliberately chose not to enforce the sanctions,
00:08:45.640 allowing people like Gomi to do exactly what he was doing. 0.60
00:08:49.500 They literally looked the other way, hoping that appeasement with Iran would work.
00:08:53.700 And that meant saying, oh, no, no, no, we have sanctions on Iran, but do they matter if you're not enforcing them? 0.72
00:08:59.100 We now know, quote, that our nation's laws prohibit doing business with one of the world's largest state sponsors of terrorism, and it must be enforced and obeyed. 0.78
00:09:08.920 Again, another example of the Trump administration actually abiding by the laws,
00:09:13.200 while the radical left does everything they can to help these individuals continue to do business
00:09:18.220 in the United States of America. It truly is amazing that this individual was not caught
00:09:23.380 sooner. If it wasn't for the Trump administration, he'd probably still be doing business right now.
00:09:28.880 Next, story number two. Another big story that I think is really important that we also highlight
00:09:33.940 right now is one that is connected very much to the story I mentioned about the individual from
00:09:38.960 Moran. And that is Democrats now are seeking to undo Donald Trump's tough new policy on green
00:09:46.840 card holders. Democrats on Capitol Hill say they're going to move to overturn the president's
00:09:53.460 immigration policy changes. Now, Trump's second term, he said, I'm going to have a new rule that
00:09:59.040 could require many green card applicants already living legally in the United States to leave the
00:10:04.240 country and complete their applications from abroad that according to report by the hill
00:10:09.260 and multiple national outlets have also confirmed the details now the democrats are losing their
00:10:15.540 minds saying the policy could affect hundreds of thousands of immigrants currently working
00:10:19.860 studying and raising families in the united states of america now for decades many legal
00:10:24.620 immigrants have been able to apply for permanent residency through a process known as adjustment of
00:10:30.300 status allowing them to remain in the U.S. while their green card applications were reviewed but
00:10:35.620 the Trump administration said this has become a massive loophole and the new guidance dramatically
00:10:40.600 changes that process. Under the policy the applicants could now be required to return to
00:10:45.740 their home countries and complete the process through a U.S. consulate unless they can demonstrate
00:10:50.900 what the administration calls extraordinary circumstances. The administration argues this
00:10:56.700 isn't a new law but rather return to the original intent of immigration status. Homeland security
00:11:02.640 officials say the temporary visas were never intended to become an automatic pathway to
00:11:08.560 permanent residency and that the new rules will make the immigration system more orderly and also
00:11:14.700 efficient. The administration has also indicated that expectations may be available for individuals
00:11:21.380 who provide a significant economic benefit or serve the national interest.
00:11:26.880 Well, Democrats, you know what they're going to do, 0.91
00:11:29.060 stand up for those that aren't American citizens 0.55
00:11:31.740 before they stand up for American citizens every single time they can do it.
00:11:37.100 And that's exactly what they're doing now.
00:11:39.500 They're calling this move by the Trump administration disruptive and harmful and hurtful.
00:11:44.420 And they argue it could separate families, disrupt careers,
00:11:47.920 create uncertainty for employers, and force legal immigrants into lengthy overseas processing
00:11:53.780 backlogs that can stretch for months or even years. Again, making sure they put those from 1.00
00:11:59.120 outside of America ahead of you. Now, immigration advocates are also warning that this will be a 0.99
00:12:04.160 disaster. But again, look at the open border process and what we've actually had in this
00:12:08.860 country. Now, the debate now centers on a larger question. What should legal immigration look like
00:12:14.680 in America. Supporters of President Trump who voted for him said it was very clear. They wanted
00:12:20.460 to shut down the borders. They wanted an orderly program and they wanted to get illegal immigrants 1.00
00:12:24.540 out of this country. They wanted to stop rewarding people who were coming into this country illegally 0.94
00:12:29.360 with government benefits as well. And the Trump policy says the administration is simply enforcing
00:12:34.940 the immigration laws that are already on the books and closing these loopholes that encourage
00:12:40.900 temporary visitors to remain permanently. Now, Democrats say, no, we are going to go back to
00:12:47.500 what we had before that allowed for massive immigration into this country. Democrats are
00:12:52.800 now pushing this as a election year issue. And they're also saying they're going to have legal
00:12:57.940 challenges to block the policy as well. Now, the outcome could determine literally how hundreds of
00:13:03.500 thousands of future green card applicants navigate the path to permanent residency in the United
00:13:08.760 States of America. And once again, the Democratic Party making it clear, we stand for illegal
00:13:14.580 immigrants and those from outside the United States of America before we stand up for Americans 0.93
00:13:21.400 and what Americans want and or believe on the issue. And that's exactly why this is going to 1.00
00:13:26.520 be a major election year issue. Thank you for listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben
