00:03:47.940 Mr. President, you described the Iranians that the U.S. is dealing with as crazy. 1.00
00:03:53.960 How do you get a deal done when the counterparts to the U.S. are crazy and irrational, 1.00
00:04:00.180 whatever you want to use to describe it? 0.72
00:04:01.120 Maybe you blow them up. Maybe you blow them up.
00:04:03.460 We have to make that decision.
00:04:05.140 We blow them up, make a deal, but the time is coming.
00:04:08.740 It's going to end very soon one way or the other.
00:04:10.880 You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
00:04:14.480 Good Thursday morning. It's so nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update, and we've got one big story for you.
00:04:20.300 Heroes in the Sky. An incredible story of so many people coming together to save their own lives, the lives of their children, and maybe countless lives even on the ground.
00:04:30.400 One hero is now recounting the battle, and others are coming forward, talking about what happened in the cockpit on a flight that was headed to Tel Aviv.
00:04:38.760 We have all the latest details for you, and it truly is a story that I hope becomes a
00:04:43.940 movie one day.
00:04:44.920 But before we get to that, I want to talk to you real quick about your cell phone.
00:04:49.780 Now, your cell phone may seem insignificant.
00:04:52.360 I'm not talking about the phone you use.
00:04:53.840 I'm talking about the service you use.
00:04:55.980 Most people say, I just want consistent, good service.
00:05:00.640 And when you get that service, you want it at a decent price, and then you really don't
00:05:04.720 think about it.
00:05:05.860 Well, you really should, because every month you're going to pay that bill.
00:05:09.580 And every month you need to ask yourself this question.
00:05:12.720 Are you doing business with a company that stands up for your values?
00:05:16.060 Are you doing business with a big mobile company that's fighting against what you believe in?
00:05:20.800 Well, I asked that question several years ago, and that brought me to Patriot Mobile.
00:05:24.360 They are the only Christian conservative wireless provider in the country.
00:05:29.600 And I also love them because they're America first.
00:05:32.760 When I say America first, they put American workers first.
00:05:35.200 They have a 100% U.S.-based customer support team, and that makes switching easy.
00:05:41.200 You get to keep your phone.
00:05:42.140 You get to keep your number.
00:05:42.940 You can activate in minutes.
00:05:44.700 Now, this is the best part.
00:05:46.640 Every month when you pay your bill, Patriot Mobile, at no extra cost to you, takes your money,
00:05:52.340 and they give portions of it back to conservative causes and activist organizations that stand up for our First and our Second Amendment rights,
00:06:00.100 the rights of unborn children, and they stand with our veterans, our wounded warriors,
00:06:04.180 and our fallen soldiers and their families.
00:06:07.020 That is why I love Patriot Mobile,
00:06:09.420 because they donate millions of dollars every year
00:06:12.280 to organizations that fight for what I believe in,
00:06:15.060 for our freedoms.
00:06:16.560 So go right now to patriotmobile.com slash ben47.
00:06:20.080 You can also call them, 972-PATRIOT.
00:06:23.100 And if you use the promo code BEN47,
00:06:26.560 you're going to get a free month of service.
00:06:30.200 That's patriotmobile.com slash ben47.
00:06:34.180 or 972-PATRIOT, and you can make that switch today.
00:06:37.500 It's the 47 Morning Update, and it starts right now.
00:06:40.280 Story number one.
00:06:41.460 I want you to imagine sitting on an airplane at more than 30,000 feet,
00:06:46.960 flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
00:06:50.040 I want you to also imagine more than 170 people are around you.
00:06:54.900 Everything seems normal.
00:06:56.600 And then suddenly, the airplane starts falling out of the sky.
00:07:00.620 Now, no turbulence, not a little drop, according to flight data and reporting from Reuters and the Associated Press.
00:07:09.780 Fly Dubai flight 1073 plunged from roughly 33,000 feet towards 17,000 feet in an extraordinary short period of time.
00:07:21.920 Reuters reports that at one point the aircraft lost nearly 14,000 feet in less than 30 seconds.
00:07:31.460 Passengers had no idea what was happening.
00:07:34.880 One passenger described the airplane dropping for 20 or 30 seconds, leveling off and then dropping again.
00:07:42.500 People were being thrown around.
00:07:44.660 Passengers were screaming.
00:07:46.200 And inside the cockpit, according to Israeli officials, something almost unimaginable was happening.
00:07:54.100 The co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain with a knife.
00:07:58.380 And Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says investigators believe the co-pilot then attempted to crash the airplane.
00:08:05.340 The exact motive remains under investigation.
00:08:08.160 And Fly Dubai has cautioned against jumping to conclusions before that investigation is complete, quote unquote.
00:08:16.240 But what happened next is the unbelievable part of the story.
00:08:20.380 The part about courage.
00:08:22.340 The part about survival.
00:08:23.740 Now, the captain, who has now been identified, is an Indian national and an extremely experienced 737 pilot.
00:08:33.380 The man reportedly has roughly 9,750 hours flying Boeing 737 aircraft,
00:08:40.500 including more than 6,400 hours as pilot in command during his previous career at Spice Jet.
00:08:47.040 He also spent about 11 years there, eventually becoming a line training captain.
00:08:53.740 before joining Fly Dubai in 2022.
00:08:57.660 And that experience may have helped save every person on board this airplane,
00:09:02.920 because after allegedly being stabbed and badly wounded,
00:09:07.140 the man somehow remained conscious.
00:09:09.940 Israeli officials say that while bleeding heavily,
00:09:13.040 he managed to activate the release for the cockpit door.
00:09:17.360 Now, I want you to think about the significance of that one action.
00:09:20.440 If he doesn't get that door open, the passengers inside cannot get to him, cannot get to the cockpit, cannot get to the controls to save their lives.
00:09:33.020 And if they don't get inside, we would be talking very differently right now about this entire story, a very different ending, a different ending that deals with tragedy and the loss of more than 170 people on board.
00:09:49.380 And this is the part that I love about this story
00:09:52.860 Because what happened after this amazing pilot was able to unlatch that door
00:09:59.700 Is the passengers then realized something was terribly wrong
00:10:03.220 And they charged towards the cockpit
00:10:05.320 One of them was a man that now is nothing but a hero
00:10:09.700 By the last name Manaz
00:10:11.520 His wife and young daughter were near the bathroom at the front of the airplane
00:10:15.320 When his wife reportedly heard screaming coming from the cockpit
00:10:18.300 the man says his wife alerted a flight attendant then the wounded captain emerged as the airplane
00:10:24.960 began plunging nose diving to earth the man got his daughter away from the front of the plane
00:10:31.460 and then went towards the danger his daughters were screaming that they didn't want to die
00:10:36.660 he went forward anyway the times of israel is reporting now then there was another man by the
00:10:43.480 name of Yaniv. This individual and other passengers forced their way into the cockpit and confronted
00:10:49.900 the attacker. And here's the part that sounds like something Hollywood would reject for being
00:10:55.400 too unbelievable if they wanted to do this true story as a film. As others wrestled with the
00:11:01.620 attacker, Hyun says he grabbed the aircraft controls and pulled back. Why? Because he had
00:11:09.260 seen it done on television yes he had seen it done on television folks and that is why he did it
00:11:16.020 afterwards even netanyahu asked him whether he actually knew what he was doing the man answered
00:11:22.460 i watched air crash investigation mr prime minister that's unbelievable a passenger with
00:11:30.440 no reported professional pilot training is suddenly sitting in the cockpit of a boeing 737
00:11:36.040 that's been plunging towards the ground.
00:11:39.480 And he grabs the controls and pulls back.
00:11:43.060 Now, this is where the story gets even more amazing.
00:11:46.380 Then, a qualified crew member was able to take over.
00:11:50.920 Meanwhile, other passengers were physically fighting the accused attacker.
00:11:54.920 Yeah, well, all this is going on.
00:11:57.080 Menez says it ultimately took roughly 20 to 25 minutes
00:12:00.620 to fully restrain the attacker.
00:12:04.380 You know, the guy that was the pilot of the plane that's supposed to keep you safe, who was trying to kill everyone on board.
00:12:10.200 And get this, they reportedly used corded headphones to tie him up.
00:12:15.340 Whatever they could find, whatever they could use.
00:12:18.460 They improvised because failure wasn't an option.
00:12:22.120 Another passenger involved was Asaf, who helped restrain the attacker and later described the instinct behind what they did.
00:12:30.620 very simple when your daughter and your family are on the airplane you run towards the threat
00:12:35.700 he told abc news another life still had to be saved by the way the captain who was seriously
00:12:42.160 wounded and bleeding that's where another passenger stepped forward a doctor an israeli
00:12:49.340 dentist and guess what he ran towards the cockpit within seconds of hearing the screaming
00:12:54.380 He found the captain badly wounded, particularly around his head.
00:12:59.000 The doctor says he worked to stop the bleeding and stabilize the captain's blood pressure.
00:13:03.780 So look at this chain of events and the miracle that actually happened in the sky.
00:13:10.020 You've got a captain who, despite being stabbed, managed to get the cockpit door open so others could step in.
00:13:17.960 You then have passengers who charge towards the alleged attacker.
00:13:22.300 You have men physically overpowering and restraining him.
00:13:26.220 You have a passenger briefly grabbing the aircraft controls based on what he'd seen on TV.
00:13:32.720 You have a dentist who suddenly became an emergency trauma doctor, a dentist, at 30,000 feet.
00:13:41.660 Now, I want to pick it up where I just stopped a moment ago.
00:13:45.520 You have a dentist suddenly becoming an emergency trauma doctor, as I said, at 30,000 feet,
00:13:50.420 saving the life of the captain of the plane who was attacked.
00:13:55.280 And there was one more enormous piece of good fortune
00:13:58.720 in all of the story that I just told you.
00:14:01.740 A reserve fly Dubai flight crew happened to be on board the aircraft.
00:14:08.860 Once the cockpit was secured, you had qualified pilots
00:14:13.580 that could take control of the Boeing 737 and divert it to Saudi Arabia
00:14:18.580 where they were able to land the plane safely.
00:14:21.500 Now, remember the geopolitical reality here about this airplane and where it was flying.
00:14:27.920 This was an airplane filled largely with Israelis bound for Tel Aviv,
00:14:32.380 suddenly making emergency landing in Saudi Arabia,
00:14:36.220 a country that does not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel at all.
00:14:43.480 Saudi authorities and medical personnel received the passengers,
00:14:48.000 treated the injured, and then assisted them after landing.
00:14:52.400 The passengers were eventually flown onward and arrived safely in Israel.
00:14:57.180 Now, you may be asking yourself, why did I start with the good news?
00:15:00.400 Instead of talking about the terrible part of this,
00:15:03.520 which was this one individual that was trying to kill everyone.
00:15:07.240 I want you to understand that even when terrible things happen,
00:15:11.740 there are incredible people that step up to help save lives.
00:15:14.800 This is no different than what we saw in 9-11.
00:15:16.560 This is a story where we should celebrate the victory that was had even after the attack happened.
00:15:25.360 Now, of course, we need to ask the question, who was this co-pilot?
00:15:30.380 Why did they actually want to do this?
00:15:33.260 Well, so let me tell you exactly what we know about this individual.
00:15:38.460 Israeli officials have identified the accused co-pilot as Omani National.
00:15:44.020 His name has been publicly confirmed in multiple reporting as well.
00:15:49.460 Saudi authorities reportedly arrested him after the aircraft landed.
00:15:53.420 And his nationality is generating another major question.
00:15:56.920 Oman does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.
00:16:00.600 So investigators are now going to want to know everything about how this individual was vetted,
00:16:05.620 how he was assigned to an Israeli-bound flight,
00:16:08.840 And most importantly, how a knife or other weapon apparently ended up inside that cockpit.
00:16:16.220 But there is something important we do not know right now.
00:16:20.240 We do not yet have independently verified evidence establishing exactly what his motive is.
00:16:25.720 There's a lot of speculation, obviously, for good reason. 1.00
00:16:29.500 The Israeli defense minister has characterized what happened as a jihadist terror attempt. 1.00
00:16:34.340 And that part I can agree with. 1.00
00:16:36.740 Israeli officials are investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack, he said.
00:16:41.600 Netanyahu himself has also said it's still too early to definitively determine the motive.
00:16:47.340 And Fly Dubai has urged people not to speculate before the investigation is complete.
00:16:53.320 And look, all of those distinctions matter.
00:16:55.880 Now, what appears much clearer from the reporting is the physical sequence of events.
00:17:00.840 A pilot was attacked.
00:17:01.960 The aircraft entered a catastrophic descent.
00:17:04.540 passengers and crew intervened the alleged attacker was subdued and another crew ultimately
00:17:10.680 got the plane safely on the ground there were even emergency signals coming from the cockpit as well
00:17:16.800 the aircraft transmitted 7700 now that is the international transponder code for a general
00:17:23.740 emergency it also transmitted 7500 the code associated with an unlawful interference or
00:17:31.720 hijacking situation now Israel just so you know scrambled fighter aircraft as authorities tried
00:17:38.760 to understand what was happening in the sky and somehow more than 170 people survived now you may
00:17:45.820 say somehow let's be clear I think this was God's protection over everyone on that airplane so that
00:17:53.020 is the story and I would say the miracle of all of this there is no doubt enormous security questions
00:18:00.040 that need to be answered? Who is this co-pilot and what radicalized him as part of that?
00:18:05.660 What is the motive exactly? And was there any other people behind him in the planning?
00:18:09.960 Were there any warnings in his background that should have been vetted? And was there other
00:18:16.200 people that helped him get on this plane headed for Israel? All of these questions are extremely
00:18:23.500 important. One thing I can tell you, Israel is going to figure it out. They're really good at 0.71
00:18:28.460 this there's also another question that people are asking right now and that is this when you
00:18:34.180 have people that are ordinary citizens sitting in a plane and this happens what message does it send
00:18:41.060 to the world let me tell you that captain he fought despite being seriously wounded and he
00:18:46.440 got that door open that's one of the greatest victories of his entire life the other man that
00:18:51.520 ran towards the danger after getting his daughter to safety that's a father doing what any father
00:18:58.360 does. You have the other man I talked about who helped enter the cockpit and grab the controls.
00:19:04.220 He's a hero. He didn't know how to fly a plane. He did the best he could and he saved people's
00:19:08.660 lives. And then you have the others that helped restrain the attacker. You have the doctor that
00:19:13.600 treated the bleeding captain and clearly saved his life. He was a dentist just on a plane flight.
00:19:18.520 And then you have the flight attendants and then you have the reserve pilots.
00:19:21.680 They all did their job
00:19:24.460 And they got the airplane on the ground
00:19:27.040 So I say this while I'm grinning
00:19:30.160 This could have been a very different show
00:19:32.960 This could have been a very different story
00:19:35.540 I could have been telling you this completely differently
00:19:39.100 Than what I'm telling you right now
00:19:40.800 But by the grace of God
00:19:43.320 You had passengers and crew
00:19:46.620 Flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv
00:19:49.480 And when the moment came, they made a decision.
00:19:52.120 We're not going to sit here, and we're not going to sit here and die.
00:19:55.820 We're going to fight back.
00:19:57.800 And because they did, everyone on board got to go home.
00:20:02.480 That, my friends, is an amazing story.
00:20:05.360 And it's a story about humanity.
00:20:07.420 It's a story about people coming together.
00:20:08.980 It's a story about geopolitical issues that disappeared in a moment's notice
00:20:13.600 between two countries that don't even have diplomatic relations.
00:20:17.060 because in that moment, everyone was just a human being.
00:20:22.000 And maybe we can learn from that,
00:20:23.640 not just in this country, but honestly, all over the world.
