The FDA will be updating the label of an existing drug to reflect potential benefits in reducing
00:00:14.220
This gives hope to the many parents with autistic children that it may be possible to improve
00:00:20.020
That's one of the things that I'm very, very happy about.
00:00:23.080
You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
00:00:27.920
So nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update, and we've got one major story for
00:00:33.680
The President of the United States of America, standing next to RFK Jr. and Dr. Oz, have
00:00:39.020
come out with major changes and recommendations when it comes to dealing with the issue of
00:00:45.580
The President said he'd been waiting 20 years to do this.
00:00:49.100
You are going to hear the facts about what has been said, and then we will play you what
00:01:00.960
All right, I want to take a moment and I want to talk to you real quick about what you can
00:01:08.300
It was nearly two years ago that the terrorists murdered more than 1,200 innocent Israelis, and
00:01:16.680
Today, it seems as if the cries of the dead and dying have been drowned out by the shouts
00:01:22.340
of anti-Semitism and just pure hatred, not just in America, but around the world.
00:01:27.040
And the most brutal attack on Jewish people happened.
00:01:32.520
And now it's like they're trying to act like it never happened.
00:01:35.820
Now, this is where it is important for us to stand with the people in Israel.
00:01:40.980
It's a movement of love and support for the people of Israel.
00:01:50.420
It's being organized by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
00:01:54.480
And on October the 5th, you can stand with Israel and the victims proudly.
00:02:01.180
Just a few weeks away, millions across America will prayerfully plant an Israeli flag in honor
00:02:08.380
and solidarity with the victims of October the 7th, 2023, and stand with their grieving families.
00:02:22.000
They're making sure that the world knows there are lots of people of faith in this country
00:02:32.280
You can get more information about how you can join the Flags of Fellowship movement, including your church.
00:02:38.740
There are going to be countless churches around the country.
00:02:43.100
So all you have to do to get involved with Flags of Fellowship movement is go to ifcj.org.
00:02:57.100
And if your church you think would want to be involved, you can also find out more about
00:03:00.880
how to get your church to be involved on a special Sunday at ifcj.org.
00:03:09.800
It's the 47 Morning Update, and it starts right now.
00:03:14.680
It was a major announcement from the White House today as President Donald Trump, RFK Jr.,
00:03:20.960
Dr. Oz, and others gathered to talk about an important issue, and that is autism.
00:03:28.560
Donald Trump and RFK Jr. described autism spectrum disorder, known as ASD,
00:03:38.180
They stated it now affects about 1 in 31 American children.
00:03:44.380
Now, the president had one significant warning, and it was talking about acetaminophen, also
00:03:50.460
The administration is associating acetaminophen, or Tylenol, used during pregnancy with a possible
00:03:56.660
increased risk of autism based on earlier studies.
00:04:01.000
As a result, the FDA will issue a physician notice and start the process to change safety
00:04:07.560
labeling for acetaminophen to reflect these concerns.
00:04:11.780
Now, the administration is also launching a public service campaign to inform families
00:04:17.240
and advise pregnant women to use acetaminophen only when medically necessary.
00:04:23.200
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible for the patient.
00:04:31.560
The NIH is funding 13 new projects under what they call the Autism Data Science Initiative,
00:04:38.640
the ADSI, with more than $50 million in grants involving large-scale biological, clinical,
00:04:48.960
Also, the administration said they will create replication hubs and include community engagement
00:04:54.940
to ensure the research aligns with the needs of families and people suffering with autism.
00:05:01.400
We also know that they're looking into other cures for autism.
00:05:05.660
The White House also said they're going to look at things that can help people with autisms
00:05:09.520
and even the real possibility of cures, obviously under medical supervision,
00:05:17.520
And then, if you get back to acetaminophen, known as Tylenol to you and I,
00:05:21.300
there is recognition of conflicting literature.
00:05:25.340
The announcement acknowledges that there is no conclusive casual proof that Tylenol causes autism.
00:05:32.980
There is concern, however, about untreated fever, another risk if women avoid the drug completely.
00:05:39.620
And that is what RFK said is important, transparency.
00:05:44.480
RFK Jr., in his role as the Secretary of Health and Human Services,
00:05:51.800
Part of what he said today, he emphasized that autism has been neglected
00:05:55.920
and that families have been left without answers or options as rates have continued to rise.
00:06:01.680
He described the administration's approach as bold and supportive of opening up new treatment pathways,
00:06:08.620
informing families and doctors of potential risks,
00:06:11.780
and investing in significant research, which will benefit many Americans.
00:06:16.820
RFK Jr. also says he supports the FDA's label updates for different types of treatment for children with AST
00:06:24.440
who have different deficiencies that need different types of treatment.
00:06:30.000
And he also said it will deal with Medicaid when appropriate as well.
00:06:34.780
RFK Jr. backed the move to begin changing safety communications
00:06:38.600
and labeling for acetaminophen use during pregnancy,
00:06:42.240
while urging medical caution and acknowledging uncertainties.
00:06:50.320
Yes, there's already a massive amount of pushback and caution from medical experts.
00:06:55.980
But what the White House is saying is we can't keep doing things the way we are now.
00:07:00.520
Which brings me to what the President had to say at the White House and RFK Jr.
00:07:05.440
I want you to hear from both of them in their own words.
00:07:11.220
So I've been waiting for this meeting for 20 years, actually.
00:07:15.860
And it's not that everything's 100% understood or known,
00:07:25.880
Well, today we're delighted to be joined by America's top medical and public health professionals
00:07:31.660
as we announce historic steps to confront the crisis of autism.
00:07:39.840
I want to thank the man who brought this issue to the forefront of American politics along with me.
00:07:48.220
And we actually met in my office, is it like 20 years ago, Bobby?
00:07:58.400
And I always had very strong feelings about autism and how it happened and where it came from.
00:08:07.760
And I wouldn't say that people were very understanding of where we were.
00:08:13.040
But it's turning out that we understood a lot more than a lot of people who studied it, we think.
00:08:19.140
And I say we think because I don't think they were really letting the public know what they knew.
00:08:25.840
Thanks as well to the director of the National Institute of Health, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya,
00:08:36.200
Administrator of the Centers for Medicine and Medicaid Services, Dr. Mehmed Oz,
00:08:41.200
and Acting Assistant Secretary of HHS, Dr. Dorothy Fink.
00:08:50.440
The meteoric rise in autism is among the most alarming public health developments in history.
00:08:59.800
Just a few decades ago, one in 10,000 children had autism.
00:09:06.400
And I've always heard, you know, they sell a few, but I think it's a lot less time than that.
00:09:12.820
It used to be one in 20,000, then one in 10,000.
00:09:25.300
But in some areas, it's much worse than that, if you can believe it.
00:09:29.800
And I gave numbers yesterday, for boys, it's one in 12.
00:09:35.000
I was told that's in California where they have a, for some reason, a more severe problem.
00:09:41.200
But whether it's one in 12 or one in 31, can you imagine?
00:09:44.440
That's down from one in 20,000, then one in 10,000.
00:09:48.520
And now we're at the level of one in 12, in some cases, for boys.
00:09:55.780
So since 2000, autism rates have surged by much more than 400%.
00:10:03.320
Instead of attacking those who ask questions, everyone should be grateful for those who are
00:10:08.500
trying to get the answers to this complex situation.
00:10:12.440
And the first day, all of these great doctors behind me were there.
00:10:17.960
I told them, this is what we got to, we have to find out.
00:10:21.060
Because when you go from 20,000 to 10,000, and then you go to 12, you know there's something artificial.
00:10:31.100
And by the way, I think I can say that there are certain groups of people that don't take
00:10:35.940
vaccines and don't take any pills that have no autism.
00:10:44.540
That's currently, is that a correct statement, by the way?
00:10:48.620
There are some studies that suggest that, yeah, with the Amish, for example.
00:10:57.840
See, Bobby wants to be very careful with what he says, and he should, but I'm not so careful
00:11:04.220
The Amish, as an example, they have essentially no autism.
00:11:10.560
First, effective immediately, the FDA will be notifying physicians that the use of aced,
00:11:17.260
well, let's see how we say that, acetaminophen, acetaminophen, is that okay, which is basically
00:11:29.120
commonly known as Tylenol during pregnancy can be associated with a very increased risk
00:11:39.660
of autism, so taking Tylenol is not good, all right?
00:11:51.100
For this reason, they are strongly recommending that women limit Tylenol use during pregnancy
00:12:00.800
That's, for instance, in cases of extremely high fever, that you feel you can't tough it
00:12:13.880
But if you can't tough it out, if you can't do it, that's what you're going to have to
00:12:21.540
You'll take a Tylenol, but it'll be very sparingly.
00:12:26.160
It can be something that's very dangerous to the woman's health.
00:12:30.280
In other words, a fever that's very, very dangerous and ideally a doctor's decision, because I think
00:12:37.940
you shouldn't take it, and you shouldn't take it during the entire pregnancy.
00:12:41.480
They may tell you that toward the end of the pregnancy, you shouldn't take it during the
00:12:44.660
entire, and you shouldn't give the child the Tylenol every time he goes.
00:12:55.080
All pregnant women should talk to their doctors for more information about limiting the use
00:13:02.080
And so, ideally, you don't take it at all, but if you have to, if you can't tough it out,
00:13:06.480
if there's a problem, you're going to end up doing it.
00:13:09.760
The other thing that I can tell you that I'll say that they will maybe say at a little bit
00:13:15.880
later date, but I think when you go for the shot, you do it over a five-time period.
00:13:21.020
Take it over five times or four times, but you take it in smaller doses and you spread it out
00:13:28.340
over a period of years, and they pump so much stuff into those beautiful little babies.
00:13:38.140
I don't, I think it has, I think it's very bad.
00:13:40.960
They're pumping, it looks like they're pumping into a horse.
00:13:44.680
You have a little child, little fragile child, and you get a vat of 80 different vaccines,
00:13:51.140
I guess, 80 different blends, and they pump it in.
00:14:01.380
And on the vaccines, it would be good instead of one visit where they pump the baby loaded
00:14:07.580
up with stuff, you'll do it over a period of four times or five times.
00:14:12.820
I was, I mean, I've been so into this issue for so many years just because I couldn't understand
00:14:20.860
It's not like something that, when you, when you go from all of those, you know, healthy
00:14:27.380
babies to a point where I don't even know structurally if a country can afford it, and
00:14:33.960
that's the least of the problems, to have families destroyed over this is just so, so terrible.
00:14:39.200
I also, and we've already done this, we want no mercury in the vaccine.
00:14:52.460
This is based on what I feel, the mumps, measles, and the three should be taken separately.
00:15:03.180
And it seems to be that when you mix them, there could be a problem.
00:15:08.720
So there's no downside in taking them separately.
00:15:12.720
In fact, they think it's better, so let it be separate.
00:15:16.540
The chicken pox is already separate because when that got mixed in, I guess they made it
00:15:29.020
No, it's only good size, and it may not have that much of an impact, but it may have a big impact.
00:15:43.440
There's no reason to give a baby that's almost just born hepatitis B.
00:15:50.860
So I would say wait till the baby is 12 years old and formed and take hepatitis B.
00:15:57.580
And I think if you do those things, it's going to be a whole different, it's going to be a revolution
00:16:06.700
The FDA will be updating the label of an existing drug to reflect potential benefits in reducing
00:16:15.860
This gives hope to the many parents with autistic children that it may be possible to improve
00:16:21.940
That's one of the things that I'm very, very happy about.
00:16:25.100
I mean, this was mostly going to be on how not to have the child affected, but we've learned
00:16:32.780
some pretty good things about certain elements of genius that can be given to a baby, and
00:16:39.980
the baby can get better, and in some cases, maybe substantially better.
00:16:45.920
It's not going to be easy, but it would be a lot easier if it didn't happen in the first
00:16:53.240
place, as these great parents fully understand, right?
00:17:05.300
Finally, to help reach the ultimate goal of ending the autism fever, the NIH will be announcing
00:17:11.400
13 major grant awards from the Autism Data Science Initiatives.
00:17:16.640
And to be honest with you, to me, that's the least important.
00:17:20.700
There's so much money, but they have to do, and they have to move quickly.
00:17:25.260
When the alternative is that nothing bad can happen, let's do it now.
00:17:30.900
I was just saying to Bobby and the group, let's do it now.
00:17:42.020
And if you can't live, if your fever is so bad, you have to take one, because there's no
00:17:48.840
Sadly, first question, what can you take instead?
00:17:52.200
It's actually there's not an alternative to that.
00:17:54.680
And as you know, other of the medicines are absolutely proven bad.
00:17:58.960
I mean, they've been proven bad with the aspirins and the Advils and others, right?
00:18:05.440
So I'd like to ask Bobby to get up to the podium and say a few words.
00:18:09.140
And then Dr. Bhattacharya and Dr. McCary, Dr. Oz, Dr. Fink, followed by two incredible
00:18:15.740
mothers that have experienced firsthand what this country is going through, what parts of
00:18:23.680
And I will say there are parts of the world that don't take Tylenol.
00:18:28.020
And I don't know if it's so or not that Cuba, they don't have Tylenol because they don't
00:18:32.220
have the money for Tylenol and they have virtually no autism.
00:18:39.280
And there are other parts of the world where they don't have Tylenol, where they don't have
00:18:48.760
And, you know, the way I look at it, don't take it.
00:18:56.020
And so I'd like to ask Bobby to come up and say a few words.
00:19:03.260
I've been very strong on the subject for a long time.
00:19:15.300
But I'd like to be a little bit more, a little speedier in the process of a recommendation
00:19:32.300
To meet the President's challenge, I ordered HHS to launch unprecedented all agency effort
00:19:38.560
to identify all cause of autism, including toxic and pharmaceutical exposures.
00:19:46.200
At present, Trump's urging NIH, FDA, CDC, and CMS are turning over every stone to identify
00:19:53.840
the ideology of the autism epidemic and how patients and parents can prevent and reverse
00:20:01.940
We have broken down the traditional silos that have long separated these agencies, and we have
00:20:10.640
Historically, NIH has focused almost solely on politically safe and entirely fruitless research
00:20:20.860
And that would be like studying the genetic drivers of lung cancer without looking at cigarettes.
00:20:27.040
And that's what NIH has been doing for 20 years.
00:20:30.180
As a result, we don't have an answer to this critical question.
00:20:33.780
Despite the cataclysmic impact of the epidemic on our nation's children, we are now replacing
00:20:42.100
the institutional culture of politicized science and corruption with evidence-based medicine.
00:20:48.720
NIH research teams are currently testing multiple hypotheses with no area off limits.
00:20:54.500
We promise transparency as we uncover the potential causes and treatments, and we will notify the
00:21:04.900
Today, we are announcing two important findings from our autism work that are vital for parents
00:21:15.420
The FDA is responding to clinical and laboratory studies that suggest a potential association between
00:21:23.740
acetaminophen used during pregnancy and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, including later diagnosis
00:21:35.360
Scientists have proposed biological mechanisms linking prenatal acetaminophen exposure to altered
00:21:42.560
We have also evaluated the contrary studies that show no association.
00:21:48.720
Today, the FDA will issue a physician's notice about the risk of acetaminophen during pregnancy
00:21:54.500
and begin the process to initiate a safety label change.
00:22:00.040
HHS will launch a nationwide public service campaign to inform families and protect public health.
00:22:05.580
FDA also recognized that acetaminophen is often the only tool for fevers and pain in pregnancy,
00:22:13.800
as other alternatives have well-documented adverse effects.
00:22:18.720
HHS wants, therefore, to encourage clinicians to exercise their best judgment in the use of acetaminophen
00:22:25.740
acetaminophen for fevers and pain in pregnancy by prescribing the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration
00:22:38.000
Furthermore, thanks also to the politicization of science,
00:22:42.880
the safety of acetaminophen against the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in young children has never been validated.
00:22:50.420
Prudent medicine, therefore, suggests caution in acetaminophen use by young children,
00:22:57.880
especially since strong evidence also has associated it with liver toxicity.
00:23:04.760
Some studies have also found the use of acetaminophen in children can potentially prolong viral illnesses.
00:23:11.100
FDA will drive new research to safeguard mothers, children, and families.
00:23:17.500
In addition to a possible acetaminophen connection to autism for pregnant women, infants, and toddlers,
00:23:25.120
our research has revealed that folate deficiency in a child's brain can lead to autism.
00:23:31.920
We have also identified an exciting therapy that may benefit large numbers of children who suffer from autism.
00:23:38.220
peer-reviewed literature has documented that up to 60% of folate-deficient children with ASD
00:23:44.640
can improve verbal communications if given leucovorin.
00:23:49.940
I have instructed NIH, FDA, and CMS to help doctors treat children appropriately.
00:23:56.360
Jay will help tell that story, which started with sound science, the kind that restores faith in government.
00:24:04.560
The announcement, this announcement also represents a historic collaboration between NIH, FDA, CDC, and CMS.
00:24:14.340
We expect this to be the first of many announcements over the coming years
00:24:18.540
that deliver actionable information to parents on underlying cause of autism
00:24:23.920
and the potential paths for prevention and reversal.
00:24:27.840
Finally, autism is a complex disorder with multifactorial etiology.
00:24:33.440
We are continuing to investigate a multiplicity of potential causes with no areas of taboo.
00:24:40.860
One area that we are closely examining, as the president mentioned, is vaccines.
00:24:47.460
Some 40 to 70% of mothers who have children with autism believe that their child was injured by a vaccine.
00:24:55.860
President Trump believes that we should be listening to these mothers instead of gaslighting and marginalizing them like prior administrations.
00:25:07.280
Some of our friends like to say that we should believe all women.
00:25:11.940
Some of the same people have been silencing and demonizing these mothers for three decades
00:25:17.540
because research on the potential link between autism and vaccines has been actively suppressed in the past.
00:25:26.740
It will take time for an honest look at this topic by scientists.
00:25:31.400
But I want to reassure the people in the autism community that we will be uncompromising and relentless in our search for answers.
00:25:39.180
We will perform the studies that should have been performed 25 years ago.
00:25:45.100
Whatever the answer is, we will tell you what we find.
00:25:48.440
We are researching this issue to all three agencies.
00:25:51.600
Jay will discuss one of our research initiatives at NIH.
00:25:54.820
This model of unleashing unbiased, depoliticized, gold standard of scientific research and academic freedom
00:26:03.360
to deliver actionable information to prevent and reverse disease
00:26:07.800
will be a model for the framework to deliver similar results from any other chronic conditions that plague Americans.
00:26:16.540
Obviously, this is a much longer show than we normally do.
