00:00:00.000 This is an iHeart Podcast.
00:00:02.580 Guaranteed human.
00:00:05.780 A ceasefire that will lead to peace is a wonderful thing.
00:00:09.220 And the only reason we're talking about ceasefire is because of Donald J. Trump.
00:00:13.200 But here's my question.
00:00:14.280 The Iranian foreign minister said at 4 o'clock Mideast time,
00:00:17.740 they would no longer attack Israel if Israel doesn't attack them.
00:00:21.140 But I want him to say tomorrow morning,
00:00:23.240 it's not only will we not attack Israel in the future,
00:00:25.800 we recognize Israel as a legitimate member of the Mideast.
00:00:30.260 You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
00:00:34.080 Good Tuesday morning.
00:00:35.040 It's so nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update.
00:00:37.760 And the big story is obviously Donald Trump announcing a ceasefire in Iran.
00:00:43.140 This coming after our first big story,
00:00:45.820 which was Iran who decided to retaliate,
00:00:49.000 this time against the United States of America.
00:00:51.240 But the story behind the retaliation is one that's very interesting.
00:00:55.420 And we're going to explain that to you.
00:00:57.360 And we're also going to cover what Donald Trump said
00:01:00.040 and what this ceasefire means and what could happen moving forward.
00:01:03.860 We've got it all for you right now,
00:01:05.880 as it's a historic day in American history
00:01:08.140 and a massive victory for President Trump and his leadership.
00:01:12.120 And it starts right now.
00:01:14.100 Story number one.
00:01:15.280 Nothing short of historic.
00:01:17.260 President Donald Trump announcing on Monday
00:01:19.520 that Israel and Iran have agreed to a, quote,
00:01:22.620 complete and total ceasefire.
00:01:24.860 After 12 days of ongoing war between the two countries.
00:01:29.340 The president, putting it this way, saying, quote,
00:01:31.900 congratulations to everyone.
00:01:34.240 It has been fully agreed by Israel and Iran
00:01:38.640 that there will be a complete and total ceasefire
00:01:41.060 in approximately six hours from now,
00:01:43.400 when Israel and Iran have wound down
00:01:45.780 and completed their in-progress final mission.
00:01:49.280 For 12 hours, at which point the war will be considered
00:01:52.580 ended, all capital letters.
00:01:54.920 Trump putting this on true social,
00:01:57.160 saying officially, Iran will start the ceasefire.
00:02:00.340 And upon the 12th hour, Israel will start the ceasefire.
00:02:04.200 And upon the 24th hour,
00:02:05.760 an official end to the 12-day war
00:02:09.920 will be saluted by the world.
00:02:12.820 During each ceasefire,
00:02:14.380 the other side will remain peaceful
00:02:16.160 and respectful, Trump added,
00:02:18.620 for having agreed to a ceasefire
00:02:20.380 on the assumption that everything worked as it should,
00:02:24.960 saying, quote,
00:02:25.820 this is a war that could have gone on for years
00:02:28.900 and destroyed the entire Middle East.
00:02:31.460 But it didn't and never will.
00:02:33.560 God bless Israel.
00:02:34.860 President then said,
00:02:36.080 God bless Iran.
00:02:38.020 God bless the Middle East.
00:02:40.080 God bless the United States of America.
00:02:42.580 And then in all caps,
00:02:43.700 the president wrote,
00:02:44.680 God bless the world.
00:02:46.100 Now, Trump's chosen title,
00:02:47.780 the 12-day war,
00:02:48.660 is a clear allusion
00:02:50.080 to the Six-Day War of 1967,
00:02:53.760 another dramatic victory by Israel over its enemies.
00:02:57.120 The 12-day war is no less dramatic a victory
00:02:59.740 and perhaps even greater one,
00:03:02.300 opening a path for greater peace
00:03:04.140 and prosperity in the region.
00:03:06.120 And for the India-Middle East-European Economic Corridor,
00:03:10.280 the trade route that Trump has been talking about a lot lately.
00:03:14.240 Now, the other part of this is what happened after Israel struck those Iran nuclear sites.
00:03:20.760 It was clear that Iran wanted to get a deal done quickly,
00:03:23.560 but they also had to save face.
00:03:26.300 And so now we know more about their strike against American interests in Qatar.
00:03:31.240 What we now know is that strike was symbolic and also calibrated retaliation.
00:03:37.720 The missile strike on Qatar and our Air Force Base,
00:03:41.340 Iran launched a barrage,
00:03:42.800 reportedly a 14 to 19 short and medium-range ballistic missiles,
00:03:47.400 in response to U.S. bunker buster bombings
00:03:50.140 of the three nuclear sites that the president ordered in America.
00:03:54.100 Most missiles were intercepted.
00:03:56.880 Why?
00:03:57.220 Because they said beforehand this was going to happen.
00:04:00.640 One of those missiles reportedly struck the base,
00:04:03.020 but caused no casualties.
00:04:05.760 Thank goodness.
00:04:06.760 And Iran also stated that this was a proportional and measured response,
00:04:11.520 as they described it.
00:04:12.480 In fact, they fired exactly as many missiles as the U.S. dropped bombs,
00:04:17.620 emphasizing symmetry and avoiding escalation
00:04:21.500 by also saving face as a radical Islamic regime.
00:04:25.420 It also provided advance notice,
00:04:27.780 we now know, to Qatar and also to the U.S.,
00:04:30.980 signaling, quote-unquote, restraint.
00:04:33.800 And then the de-escalation signals began.
00:04:36.500 Despite that strike, Iran avoided broader disruptions.
00:04:39.900 It didn't threaten global oil supplies
00:04:43.300 or shut down the Strait of Hormuz.
00:04:45.640 That is something that their parliament, in essence,
00:04:48.220 had said they were going to advocate for just 24 hours earlier.
00:04:52.900 But clearly, the leadership in Iran didn't want to do that.
00:04:56.320 Iran indicated it would, quote,
00:04:58.240 stand down if Israel halted its bombings,
00:05:01.660 hinting at a conditional truce.
00:05:04.160 Now, the takeaway from all of this
00:05:06.060 is that Iran's goal was clearly limited.
00:05:08.840 It was also a symbolic blow
00:05:11.520 and not a full military engagement.
00:05:14.540 Why?
00:05:15.080 Because Iran had to keep up their strong rhetoric,
00:05:18.340 but no escalation.
00:05:20.160 The Supreme Leader, for example,
00:05:21.900 and the IRGC emphasized their, quote,
00:05:24.560 readiness to hit the Achilles heel of U.S. forces.
00:05:28.460 But they actually didn't do that at all.
00:05:30.300 The foreign minister in Iran also came out
00:05:32.920 condemning the U.S. bombings as a, quote,
00:05:35.300 heinous crime and warned of everlasting consequences,
00:05:39.660 reserving all options.
00:05:41.820 Clearly, that wasn't actually what they were planning on as well.
00:05:45.420 And then the parliament backed that potential closure
00:05:48.200 of the Strait of Hormuz.
00:05:49.440 But the council did not act.
00:05:51.820 So what does this mean overall?
00:05:53.940 It's clear that this was a broader Iranian,
00:05:56.600 well, miscalculation that they tried to get under control quickly.
00:06:00.620 Iran is seen preparing a mix of options,
00:06:04.620 the analysts have said at this hour.
00:06:06.560 Targeted strikes on U.S. installations,
00:06:08.780 cyber or proxy attacks,
00:06:10.380 and even plans to, well,
00:06:12.420 disrupt global oil or naval routes.
00:06:15.760 But what really happened is Iran seemed determined
00:06:18.960 to avoid total war,
00:06:20.820 wanting a balance and a deterrence
00:06:23.740 for their own people to maybe topple them
00:06:25.900 while allowing diplomacy to work
00:06:27.880 in the United States of America.
00:06:29.640 The bottom line is this.
00:06:31.420 Iran has responded with a deliberate proportional missile strike
00:06:35.760 that was pre-warned,
00:06:37.440 carefully designed to deter further U.S. or Israeli aggression
00:06:41.120 without triggering full-blown escalation.
00:06:44.260 And by giving advance warning,
00:06:46.440 matching U.S. strikes one for one,
00:06:48.960 and tying any ceasefire to Israel stopping its attacks,
00:06:53.460 Tehran now appears intent on framing its move
00:06:56.480 as a strategic and restrained,
00:06:58.460 not reckless regime,
00:07:00.180 who clearly learned their lesson.
00:07:01.860 When Donald Trump tells you you have 60 days to make a deal,
00:07:04.820 you better make the damn deal.
00:07:06.760 Now story number two.
00:07:08.100 There is a massive ceasefire
00:07:09.860 that we all now know about,
00:07:12.000 and it is a historic moment
00:07:14.000 for the President of the United States of America
00:07:15.940 who said,
00:07:16.460 I do not want regime change.
00:07:18.680 I do not want to take out the leader in Iran.
00:07:21.480 I do want to make sure that we are safe
00:07:23.780 and that they never receive nuclear weapons.
00:07:26.720 Well, you put that in contrast
00:07:28.800 with what the media wanted,
00:07:30.420 and my oh my,
00:07:31.460 is it a very different story.
00:07:33.160 We know the mainstream media hates Donald Trump.
00:07:35.780 We know that they care more about him
00:07:37.660 being a failure than they do about the success
00:07:39.980 of making sure that our foreign policy
00:07:42.160 keeps Americans and others safe around the world.
00:07:45.600 But if you need a moment
00:07:47.160 to highlight exactly how biased the media is
00:07:51.040 and exactly how much they hate Donald Trump
00:07:54.160 and how much they would rather Trump fail
00:07:56.520 than there be success and safety and security
00:07:59.200 for the United States of America,
00:08:00.600 then you just need to listen
00:08:02.300 to what I'm going to play for you right now.
00:08:04.220 Now what I'm about to play for you was on CNN,
00:08:07.120 right?
00:08:07.380 The most trusted name in news.
00:08:09.300 And it was an embarrassing moment
00:08:10.760 if you were watching it.
00:08:12.540 I hope you share this everywhere
00:08:13.880 because CNN gets word
00:08:16.600 that Iran has accepted the ceasefire deal
00:08:19.720 just seconds after Caitlin Collins
00:08:23.200 sets up a narrative casting doubt on Donald Trump.
00:08:27.460 Yes, this happened in real time.
00:08:29.880 No, this is not me putting two different segments together
00:08:33.160 from different parts of the day.
00:08:35.480 I want you to listen to this to the very end.
00:08:37.820 You really can't make this up.
00:08:39.580 And I mean this.
00:08:41.080 You cannot hate the liberal media enough.
00:08:43.700 And we're hearing incredibly optimistic views
00:08:45.620 coming out of the White House
00:08:46.720 as far as how long this can hold
00:08:48.340 and what this is going to look like.
00:08:50.020 That obviously still remains to be seen
00:08:51.920 on the implementation side of this
00:08:53.900 and waiting to see if the firing does stop
00:08:56.380 and if Iran and Israel do both agree to this.
00:08:58.880 Because, you know,
00:08:59.780 speaking of the fluidity of the situation,
00:09:01.660 it was just 24 hours ago
00:09:03.180 that President Trump himself
00:09:04.580 was suggesting a regime change in Iran
00:09:07.200 was a possibility.
00:09:08.540 And obviously right before that,
00:09:09.660 having the United States strike Iran.
00:09:11.800 And so, yes, there have been a lot of phone calls
00:09:13.780 going back and forth.
00:09:15.180 In part, this has to do with Iran's
00:09:17.000 limited response earlier
00:09:18.460 where they fired on a U.S. base in Qatar.
00:09:21.060 But there were no casualties.
00:09:22.760 We know that they did give a heads up
00:09:24.340 that they were going to be firing on U.S. bases
00:09:26.820 without exactly specifying which ones.
00:09:30.000 But that is the question here,
00:09:31.480 is if the United States felt
00:09:33.000 that it did not need to respond
00:09:34.420 to the Iranian retaliation,
00:09:36.480 did that create the space for this?
00:09:38.680 That is what we've been hearing
00:09:39.720 from administration officials.
00:09:41.240 And so the question is
00:09:42.180 whether or not this still holds
00:09:43.920 for the next few hours.
00:09:45.540 Caitlin, I've just been given word
00:09:46.980 that Iran, according to a diplomat
00:09:49.600 who briefed CNN,
00:09:50.620 Iran has agreed to the ceasefire.
00:09:53.280 So this is significant.
00:09:55.220 I just want to try to learn
00:09:56.160 some more information
00:09:56.920 as soon as we get it about that.
00:09:58.380 But if that is the case,
00:09:59.700 that's incredibly significant
00:10:01.040 because that is we were waiting.
00:10:02.680 We had not heard from Iran.
00:10:03.780 We had not heard from Israel.
00:10:06.780 All we were going on so far
00:10:08.440 has been the president's
00:10:09.600 social media post,
00:10:10.420 which was some two hours ago.
00:10:12.780 So, again, that is the first indication
00:10:14.520 we have that Iran has agreed to this.
00:10:17.940 Oops, right?
00:10:19.300 Like, you cannot make this up.
00:10:21.520 And this is the media showing you
00:10:23.800 just how much they were hoping
00:10:25.220 that what Donald Trump put out
00:10:27.180 would somehow not become reality,
00:10:29.780 that it would be a failure,
00:10:31.620 that they could then point to him
00:10:32.940 and say,
00:10:33.380 he's starting World War III.
00:10:35.480 Donald Trump is putting
00:10:36.640 everyone's lives at risk.
00:10:38.400 Donald Trump is the problem.
00:10:40.700 And you can hear it in real time.
00:10:43.560 Now, that's not the only thing
00:10:45.080 I want to remind you about.
00:10:46.640 And this goes back to liberals
00:10:48.560 that are in charge.
00:10:50.000 I want to take you back
00:10:51.260 to a guy by the name of Scott Kirby.
00:10:53.160 He is a guy that was at the White House,
00:10:55.200 a guy that was there
00:10:56.620 under the Biden regime.
00:10:58.840 And what did Scott Kirby say
00:11:00.640 back on September the 13th of 2023?
00:11:05.020 And then what did he say
00:11:06.100 January 4th of 2024?
00:11:09.240 Remember this.
00:11:10.640 Kirby on the $6 billion
00:11:12.040 that Biden released to Iran,
00:11:13.940 saying the last administration
00:11:15.140 was, quote,
00:11:16.060 incredibly unserious,
00:11:18.140 absolutely terrible for the world.
00:11:20.560 Here is the comparing contrast
00:11:22.300 of them.
00:11:23.480 The U.S. will have visibility
00:11:24.820 and will be able to engage
00:11:26.040 in oversight about where
00:11:27.060 the money was going
00:11:27.940 and for what purpose.
00:11:29.500 If Iran tries to divert the funds,
00:11:31.380 we'll take action
00:11:32.000 and we'll lock them up again.
00:11:33.280 And there will be sufficient oversight
00:11:34.700 to make sure
00:11:35.440 that the request is valid
00:11:36.940 and that it's going through
00:11:38.300 vendors who we
00:11:40.300 and the Qataris can trust
00:11:42.080 will actually contract
00:11:43.720 for the goods,
00:11:44.760 the medical equipment,
00:11:45.560 the food,
00:11:46.000 whatever it is.
00:11:46.860 The regime doesn't get
00:11:48.120 to touch the money, Peter.
00:11:49.320 It doesn't go to them.
00:11:50.200 They don't get to decide
00:11:52.260 ultimate destination
00:11:54.000 and they have no direct access to it.
00:11:57.660 John, Iran made two transactions
00:12:00.700 withdrawing from the previously
00:12:02.900 frozen funds in Oman.
00:12:05.460 What were those transactions for?
00:12:07.480 I don't have the details on that, Jackie.
00:12:10.300 You're going to have to let me
00:12:10.900 get back to you on that.
00:12:11.940 There's the line,
00:12:13.100 whether it's the media
00:12:13.960 or whether it was
00:12:15.040 the Biden administration.
00:12:16.500 They were lying to you
00:12:17.660 the entire time
00:12:18.860 about what was happening
00:12:20.080 with their administration
00:12:21.040 and they were not holding
00:12:22.520 Iran accountable.
00:12:23.580 And now that President Trump
00:12:24.780 has done it,
00:12:25.520 they're now furious
00:12:26.440 that it is a success
00:12:28.160 and they're rooting against it
00:12:29.660 every step of the way.
00:12:31.480 Which brings me to the point,
00:12:33.020 why did it so many Americans
00:12:34.340 vote for Donald Trump?
00:12:35.720 It's actually very simple.
00:12:37.080 Because they wanted to make sure
00:12:39.160 that countries like Iran,
00:12:41.300 who are a threat
00:12:41.980 to the United States of America,
00:12:43.100 are held accountable.
00:12:43.840 And yet again,
00:12:45.160 the president made good
00:12:47.060 on his promise
00:12:48.060 to the American people
00:12:49.200 to protect and defend
00:12:51.040 the homeland.
00:12:51.760 Thank you for listening
