00:00:00.000 This is an iHeart Podcast.
00:00:02.660 Guaranteed human.
00:00:05.260 Welcome. It is Verdict with Senator Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson with you.
00:00:09.180 Senator, we have a special guest at a show tonight
00:00:12.320 that relates to the State of the Union and the Republican response.
00:00:16.900 I'll let you take it away from there.
00:00:18.820 Well, today on the podcast, I'm very excited.
00:00:21.040 We have a guest, my friend and colleague, Alabama Senator Katie Britt,
00:00:24.940 who gave the Republican response to the State of the Union.
00:00:27.700 And she gave it, and the media proceeded to go nuts.
00:00:30.540 They pilloried her. They demonized her like crazy.
00:00:33.220 Well, we're going to talk with Katie about all about that.
00:00:35.820 We're going to get into it.
00:00:37.060 And then we're also going to get into Joe Biden's fallout after the State of the Union
00:00:41.180 as he immediately backtracked.
00:00:43.100 And, of course, the thing he wanted to correct is that he actually referred
00:00:46.120 to the murder of Lakin Riley as an illegal, which he promptly apologized for Craven.
00:00:51.040 We're going to get into all of that today.
00:00:52.900 But first, I want to tell you about our friends at Freedom Gold.
00:00:55.680 Inflation is heavily eroding our purchasing power.
00:00:59.940 It's putting many people, just like you, savings and retirement accounts
00:01:03.660 and your future at risk.
00:01:06.220 And that is exactly why I want you to know about Freedom Gold.
00:01:09.880 Now, I love Freedom Gold because it can help me set up an IRA or a 401k
00:01:14.900 by using gold and silver.
00:01:17.560 That's right.
00:01:18.060 But the other thing I like is this.
00:01:19.420 No matter what happens, I know I have protection because I have physical gold
00:01:24.820 and silver that I can get my hands on whenever I may need it.
00:01:29.420 When you look at what's been happening with financial institutions, looking at
00:01:32.600 certain words that people use like MAGA or Bible, and basically looking at what
00:01:37.960 Americans are doing, I want to know there's something that I can have when it
00:01:41.880 comes to my finances that they can't touch.
00:01:45.420 And that is physical gold and silver.
00:01:48.360 So if you have $50,000 or more in retirement savings, you, as you know, may want to look
00:01:54.440 at if gold and silver can be right for you to give you a diversified financial portfolio.
00:01:59.960 And my friends at Freedom Gold USA are here to empower you.
00:02:03.360 You can call them right now and see if you qualify for up to $10,000 in free silver as well.
00:02:10.640 So if you're ready to protect your hard-earned dollars, learn how gold and silver can work
00:02:16.280 with you and your IRA or your 401k or have it shipped directly to your home to safeguard
00:02:21.540 your wealth.
00:02:23.120 Call them 1-800-655-8843.
00:02:26.820 That's 1-800-655-8843.
00:02:31.000 1-800-655-8843.
00:02:33.500 Or visit freedomgoldusa.com slash verdict.
00:02:37.820 That's freedomgoldusa.com slash verdict to see if you qualify for up to $10,000 in free
00:02:44.420 silver.
00:02:45.560 Senator, it has been truly shocking.
00:02:47.460 And I obviously want you to introduce our guests, the audience, but the media's reaction
00:02:52.080 and how nasty they were to the Republican response to the State of the Union.
00:02:58.200 Well, look, that's exactly right.
00:02:59.540 And so we're joined tonight on the podcast with Katie Britt.
00:03:02.180 Katie Britt is Senator from the state of Alabama.
00:03:05.180 She was elected in 2022.
00:03:06.580 She is the first woman ever to be elected to the Senate from Alabama.
00:03:10.140 She is the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the United States Senate.
00:03:14.500 She's just 42 years old.
00:03:16.320 She's a mom of two teenagers.
00:03:17.860 She has a terrific background.
00:03:19.700 She used to be the CEO of the Business Council of Alabama.
00:03:22.620 She was also the chief of staff to Richard Shelby, who was truly a legend, an icon in the
00:03:28.760 Senate, someone I served with for a long time.
00:03:30.780 He was in the Senate, I think, like 403 years or something like that.
00:03:34.420 I think that's about right.
00:03:35.000 And so she like ran Shelby's operations and then came in.
00:03:40.540 And I got to tell you, Katie is a star.
00:03:43.960 She is young and energetic and vibrant and passionate.
00:03:46.720 And she did the response.
00:03:48.800 And look, everyone remember back to last week.
00:03:51.000 We see Joe Biden standing there in the State of the Union.
00:03:54.360 He's an old, cranky, bitter man yelling and screaming, as we said on the pod immediately
00:03:59.920 after the State of the Union.
00:04:01.560 He was the grumpy old man saying, get off my lawn.
00:04:05.560 And then the contrast, you go to a young, happy, beautiful mom sitting there talking about
00:04:11.860 the issues facing American families.
00:04:14.200 And I got to say, if you're a Democrat, if you're a partisan, this is a nightmare.
00:04:20.020 That contrast is terrifying.
00:04:22.320 And so what has happened is the media has had a conniption fit.
00:04:27.480 They have gone after her with both barrels.
00:04:30.900 They have gone nuts.
00:04:31.740 And so just at lunch today, I pulled her aside and said, hey, you kicked ass last week.
00:04:36.640 And for what it's worth, the fact that the media is losing its mind should encourage you through
00:04:44.180 and through.
00:04:44.920 There's a reason they're attacking you, because they are terrified and threatened by you.
00:04:50.960 And we started talking.
00:04:52.900 I said, you know what?
00:04:53.640 Come on the pod tonight.
00:04:54.760 Let's talk about it.
00:04:55.640 She said, awesome.
00:04:56.440 So, Katie, welcome to Verdict.
00:04:58.000 Thank you so much.
00:04:59.200 I am excited to be on here.
00:05:01.120 I appreciated you pulling me to the side today and having that conversation.
00:05:04.620 As you said, you know well what it's like to be right over the target.
00:05:08.760 And so being able to talk through that with you and reflect on Joe Biden's really angry speech
00:05:15.640 and no media attention to that, and then mine, and heaven forbid that you show a little bit of
00:05:22.820 passion about the things that matter to American families, it was quite different.
00:05:27.140 And by the way, you want the perfect encapsulation, Saturday Night Live.
00:05:33.100 Now, I have to admit, the night of the State of the Union, I knew you were going to be on
00:05:37.660 SNL.
00:05:38.400 Absolutely.
00:05:38.980 And I knew you were going to be the cold open.
00:05:40.660 But this, you want to really sum up how corrupt the media is.
00:05:45.320 The cold open of Saturday Night Live, they have Joe Biden for like two minutes, and they
00:05:49.740 just kind of have him as sort of a happy doddery, like, yoo-hoo, he's happy.
00:05:53.940 They don't have him screaming and bitter and angry.
00:05:55.760 They don't have any of that.
00:05:57.040 Right.
00:05:57.380 And he totally gave a campaign speech.
00:05:58.920 Let's be clear.
00:05:59.640 I mean, it was anti-Trump, anti-Trump.
00:06:02.020 It was, I mean, the whole thing, angry, yelling, doesn't make sense, was speaking some type
00:06:07.580 of gibberish at some point.
00:06:09.120 Yeah.
00:06:09.560 But no, yeah.
00:06:10.720 And so the cold open, 80% of it is Katie's response.
00:06:16.200 And by the way, okay, the thing that was the coolest is you're played by Scarlett Johansson.
00:06:20.880 I mean, how awesome is that?
00:06:23.040 Okay, Katie, look, be candid, Scarlett Johansson is hot.
00:06:26.920 Yes!
00:06:27.320 And, all right, I am genuinely jealous, because, look, SNL has come after me a bunch
00:06:32.380 of times.
00:06:32.880 Right.
00:06:33.380 They don't ever have Tom Cruise play me.
00:06:35.820 How come you get a gorgeous movie star?
00:06:38.860 And, like, you know, that is a real compliment that you ought to be pretty psyched with.
00:06:45.200 Well, I actually was pretty pumped about that.
00:06:47.300 I thought, you know what, obviously, no, we're going to be the cold open.
00:06:50.060 Like, how is this going to work out?
00:06:51.400 And you wonder, who in the world is going to play you, right?
00:06:54.600 And I'll be honest with you, a bingo card of 2024 for Katie Britt, I did not have this
00:07:00.880 on it, right?
00:07:01.940 And so certainly didn't have Scarlett Johansson playing me.
00:07:05.760 And I was trying.
00:07:06.700 We were talking to the kids about all of it.
00:07:08.580 And they were like, oh, my gosh, Mom, and da-da-da.
00:07:10.720 And I said, you know, look, it could be worse.
00:07:15.200 I mean, Scarlett Johansson, here you have Black Widow.
00:07:18.920 They bring in someone from Avengers to play me in the cold open.
00:07:23.420 I'm here for it.
00:07:24.320 I'm here for it.
00:07:26.540 So that was a pretty fun moment.
00:07:28.280 And by the way, in terms of Republican portrayals, like, they have had some vicious ones.
00:07:34.280 Okay, let's start off with at least you were played by a woman.
00:07:37.860 That's fair.
00:07:38.480 So when SNL has had me, I've also been played by a woman.
00:07:43.300 Stop it.
00:07:44.120 And by the way.
00:07:45.580 All right, Senator, hold on.
00:07:47.660 You got to tell the story of when Saturday Night Live was messing with you and when they
00:07:51.760 had a chick playing you, please, for people that missed that Saturday Night Live episode.
00:07:56.420 Yeah.
00:07:56.680 So look, they cast Aidy Bryant as me, and she's really funny.
00:08:00.400 And like, you know, coming off the whole Cancun thing, they had her in like cornrows and sipping
00:08:05.860 a margarita.
00:08:06.660 And it was hysterical.
00:08:07.560 That is great.
00:08:10.020 I thought it was awesome.
00:08:11.240 And she looks pretty good in a beard, by the way.
00:08:12.840 I mean, it's a good look.
00:08:14.140 It works for her.
00:08:15.200 But you know what?
00:08:16.160 Both of us got treated better than Sean Spicer.
00:08:19.580 You remember Trump's first press secretary?
00:08:21.480 Oh, my gosh.
00:08:22.120 Yes.
00:08:22.140 Wait, remind me.
00:08:22.680 I don't remember what happened.
00:08:23.600 They had Melissa McCarthy play him.
00:08:25.660 And she just, it was amazing.
00:08:27.940 It was funny.
00:08:28.760 It was amazing.
00:08:29.900 There's an SNL episode where he's on the podium, and the podium is a mobile podium going down
00:08:35.180 like Fifth Avenue in New York and calling himself Spicy Spice.
00:08:39.620 Oh, it's...
00:08:40.240 I mean, it's hysterical.
00:08:42.060 So when that happened, she was on a Segway in New York City.
00:08:47.580 I was in New York and saw that actually being filmed the first time they did it.
00:08:53.240 And I was like, what is this person who looks like Sean Spicer on a Segway going down the road in New York City?
00:08:59.840 And they were taping.
00:09:00.720 It was amazing.
00:09:02.400 Look, I'm just glad that Trump didn't choose that moment to test his theory that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any support.
00:09:10.160 Fair.
00:09:10.620 Fair.
00:09:11.140 And get away with it.
00:09:12.380 All right.
00:09:12.600 I got to ask you a question, Senator.
00:09:14.620 And this is...
00:09:15.820 Let's go backwards a little bit.
00:09:17.540 Yeah.
00:09:17.920 When did you find out you were going to do the rebuttal, and how does that play out?
00:09:23.320 Yeah, so I guess maybe a few weeks ago, I got a call, and the first call came from Leader McConnell.
00:09:31.400 And I was on the flight.
00:09:33.120 I was on the flight home, and I got a call, and then it said, you know, the text message, like, please call.
00:09:40.980 You know, and you can kind of sort of hear it coming.
00:09:42.800 And I thought, oh, shoot.
00:09:44.500 You know, what'd I do?
00:09:45.320 That's a pretty good Mitch impression.
00:09:46.460 Can you do a little more?
00:09:47.580 Do you have a Kentucky draw?
00:09:48.740 I have.
00:09:49.860 If we get into this for a minute, I've got some really good ones.
00:09:52.540 I think that's very welcome.
00:09:55.820 And to be clear, we don't even have a glass of wine.
00:09:58.100 We don't.
00:09:58.880 We do not.
00:09:59.520 That's exactly right.
00:10:01.000 So I thought, oh, shoot.
00:10:03.480 You know what?
00:10:04.100 So I tried to call and, you know, got home, because I get home on Thursdays in time to, like, skid in to, like, pick up the kids from practice or go to a game or, like, right there in time if we get out of here on time.
00:10:18.060 And so tried to call, didn't answer.
00:10:20.300 So then I sent a text back and just said, tried to call you, and I'll send you, I'm headed, you know, out with the kids, but I'll try it tomorrow.
00:10:28.060 And he wrote back, it's important.
00:10:30.220 And I thought, oh, darn.
00:10:31.680 He, like, found out, like, I'm going to vote a certain way or, like, you know, what is this about?
00:10:36.440 You know?
00:10:36.900 Right?
00:10:37.220 Don't you?
00:10:37.600 You see what I'm saying?
00:10:38.200 You're going to get reprimanded, right?
00:10:39.740 Here comes the hot box.
00:10:40.460 100%, right?
00:10:41.360 I'm like, you rarely hear, and I'm like, oh, that's what this is.
00:10:45.160 And so I called back, and he just said, you know, Speaker Johnson and I have been talking, and we get to select somebody to give the rebuttal to the State of the Union.
00:10:57.560 And he said, and, you know, and we want it to be you.
00:11:03.100 And, y'all, I really did not know what to say.
00:11:07.120 First off, I kind of sort of thought I was being punked.
00:11:09.560 You know what I mean?
00:11:10.380 Like, is this, it was like an out-of-body experience.
00:11:13.360 And then I said, I am, and I really wanted to say the word shook, right?
00:11:22.760 But I didn't think that shook would translate in the moment, you know?
00:11:27.380 It's like not necessarily, I would think, something that, like, is in Mitch McConnell's everyday vocabulary.
00:11:34.840 And so I said, I am.
00:11:36.840 So Mitch is literally double Katie's age.
00:11:40.620 There's that.
00:11:41.280 And so I just said that.
00:11:42.400 Yeah, there is that.
00:11:43.360 Yeah, so I just said, I am.
00:11:45.340 And so instead of the word shook, I was really proud of myself.
00:11:47.940 I had a little bit of moment of refinement.
00:11:49.960 And I said, I am without words.
00:11:54.380 And so I just told him how honored I was, how humbled I would be, you know, that, but ask him, you know, could I have some time to think about it?
00:12:01.760 And he said, you know, absolutely, that that, that that was fine.
00:12:06.360 And then I got a call from Speaker Johnson.
00:12:09.440 And Speaker Johnson and I don't, have not had an opportunity to really get to know each other.
00:12:13.300 But I had met him previously and met his wife.
00:12:15.920 And so he asked the same thing.
00:12:18.900 And the funny thing is, he's like, now don't worry about, you know, people are going to tell you horror stories about all of these things that happened and, and people's, people's career being blown up over it.
00:12:30.440 And he's like, he's like, it'll be fine.
00:12:32.440 It'll be fine.
00:12:33.160 And he was, he was so kind, and just, and really welcoming.
00:12:37.780 And, you know, I think it was a great conversation.
00:12:40.420 But the irony that he's like, don't you worry, like that, that, that's not.
00:12:44.280 But, and so talk to both of them, and obviously, then finally accepted doing it, but still kind of thought, is this even for real?
00:12:54.480 I mean, I haven't even given a floor speech yet, you know, right, right at the Senate yet, but was excited.
00:13:00.840 And particularly, as, as you mentioned earlier, being, you know, the only Republican female with school age kids, and kind of bringing that like next generation voice.
00:13:10.840 I mean, you and I were just talking about our, our, you know, kind of what it's like to be parents and doing this and all of that.
00:13:17.540 We both have teenagers.
00:13:18.360 And so, bringing that voice, and particularly, you know, that of, of conservative women to the table, it was an honor to be chosen, but seriously, an out-of-body experience.
00:13:30.520 So, and a couple of things Katie referenced to give some background.
00:13:33.440 Like, number one, there's a tradition in the Senate that, that freshman senators wait a reasonable period of time before giving their first speech.
00:13:41.120 And the first speech on the floor is called the maiden speech, and you wait for it.
00:13:44.440 And it's, so, like, and it's just sort of, you know, it's an old institution, and it's kind of how it operates.
00:13:50.380 But, also, like, the response to the State of the Union, it's chosen by the Republican leader in the Senate and the Republican leader in the House.
00:13:57.860 And the two of them, they often alternate on it, but they get to pick who it is.
00:14:02.940 And, you know, Katie, you and I were just talking a few minutes ago.
00:14:06.240 I mean, there are maybe 30 people on planet Earth.
00:14:10.640 Right.
00:14:11.520 Who've given a response to a State of the Union address.
00:14:14.100 Yeah.
00:14:14.340 Like, it's, I've never done that.
00:14:15.780 I don't know what that experience is like.
00:14:18.100 And so, you have the ability to share with verdict listeners.
00:14:21.600 All right, so you get a call from Mitch McConnell.
00:14:23.620 They say, hey, will you do the response?
00:14:25.660 You've got, you said, a couple of weeks to prepare.
00:14:27.660 Like, how was preparing and kind of what did you go through to say, okay, what am I going to say, and what do I want the message to do?
00:14:32.620 And so, yeah, and on your point about the maiden speech, like, the irony is, is like, I have, you know, I'm kind of just trying to keep my head down.
00:14:38.740 You know what I mean?
00:14:39.680 So, and learn and listen.
00:14:42.160 And now that maiden speech is going to seem like nothing, right?
00:14:46.120 But, yeah, so you've got a little bit, a little bit of time to prepare, but you also don't know what to prepare for.
00:14:51.420 And to be honest with you, I never thought in a million years he was going to come out there and give this type of, like, yelling and so just vindictive, particularly towards Trump.
00:15:04.720 You know, it seemed like a full-fledged campaign speech.
00:15:08.400 Full-fledged.
00:15:09.580 And I expected a little bit more of a statesman to be up there and to really kind of sort of methodically be going through.
00:15:16.020 Now, I thought we would disagree of what his version of the State of the Union was, but I didn't think he would be, you know, I didn't anticipate the posture that he had.
00:15:26.220 But so you're going through, you're kind of sort of saying, okay, I know I'm going to want to talk about the border.
00:15:29.880 I know he's probably not going to talk about it.
00:15:32.300 Irony there, like, it took him 40 minutes to get into the border.
00:15:35.940 I wanted to start with that.
00:15:37.260 So you're kind of sort of getting those facts together and then seeing, like, how can you sensitize those in a way that the public can grab them?
00:15:45.800 Because there's so much to say, right?
00:15:48.260 Well, and you told a story about a woman being sex trafficked, and the media has gone crazy, quote, fact-checking you.
00:15:55.980 The Washington Post gave you four Pinocchios.
00:15:58.260 Unbelievable.
00:15:58.740 The interesting thing for me has been that none of the media has covered the fact that under Trump in 2018, that human trafficking was a $500 million business.
00:16:10.380 It is now, under Joe Biden, a $13 billion business.
00:16:16.660 Nobody, they want to silence a conservative woman for speaking out on this topic.
00:16:22.040 They don't want to bring light and help the women who are actually being trafficked.
00:16:26.720 Well, and look, there is a reason.
00:16:28.980 They view you as an enormous threat.
00:16:31.120 The media wants to tell the story that the only Republicans on planet Earth are old, fat, bald white guys.
00:16:37.820 And you don't fit their narrative.
00:16:39.920 No, I don't.
00:16:41.000 Like, a young mom is going right at, they want voters to think, I'm sorry, if you're a woman, you have to be a liberal Democrat.
00:16:49.220 That's the only thing allowed.
00:16:50.720 Right.
00:16:51.280 And so it was, it was sadly predictable that they went after you.
00:16:56.360 It was, and they didn't do their homework, too.
00:16:59.180 I mean, you've had to deal with this for quite some time, but the liberal media isn't interested in the truth.
00:17:04.700 Nope.
00:17:05.000 They're interested in burying the truth about Joe Biden and his border crisis.
00:17:09.260 But all they want to do is, they have an agenda.
00:17:14.080 And if they really wanted to know those stories, they would have taken time to know the facts.
00:17:17.560 And I think when all the facts come out, people will see the truth.
00:17:21.080 But, you know, so here you are, like, preparing for this, you know, trying to figure out what is he going to say and how are you going to piece it together?
00:17:28.940 And, you know, and how can you make things stick?
00:17:32.280 And how can you, you know...
00:17:33.920 Let me ask this on the edits.
00:17:35.160 Like, how much time do you have?
00:17:36.640 Because you obviously have the speech on the front end, right?
00:17:38.880 That you've kind of formed.
00:17:40.380 You know what your response in general is going to be on these core issues.
00:17:43.140 But you're watching him give a speech that you weren't expecting.
00:17:47.520 So, how much time do you have to make last minute edits before you went live?
00:17:53.540 You know, it is not very much.
00:17:55.340 We actually thought, we had gotten word that his speech was going to be a lot shorter than usual.
00:18:00.680 Yeah.
00:18:01.120 So, like, they had said, like, this is going to be 25 in and out.
00:18:03.700 Like, we're going to be done.
00:18:05.920 And it ended up being, obviously, a really long speech.
00:18:10.280 So, that was an interesting...
00:18:12.320 Because we kind of sort of thought that he was wrapping up when he wasn't wrapping up.
00:18:15.620 And...
00:18:16.220 So, his speech was an hour and seven minutes.
00:18:18.320 And I know that because Roger Marshall texted out to a bunch of us a series of bets to have on the speech.
00:18:23.940 One of which was an over-under.
00:18:25.660 And it was 70 minutes.
00:18:26.840 And I took the over.
00:18:28.000 And, of course, he was 67 minutes.
00:18:29.420 So, I was three minutes off winning on that one.
00:18:31.160 Oh, my.
00:18:31.480 See, Ted, so close.
00:18:32.640 Yeah.
00:18:32.900 So close.
00:18:33.320 Oh, well.
00:18:34.020 So close.
00:18:35.200 So, you're trying to make those kind of in the last minute.
00:18:38.960 And I do think, you know, there's also interesting things.
00:18:42.840 Like, we were making edits, like, when he ended up saying, you know, Lakin Riley's name, but said Lincoln Riley.
00:18:50.540 And, you know, you're kind of thinking, okay, well, let's not go there.
00:18:53.660 But, like, let's make sure that we make him own that.
00:18:57.140 Because particularly on that, you know, I wanted to get into parole issue because, you know, there's been a lot of talk.
00:19:03.600 And I figured he was going to blame Republicans for, you know, failed this or failed that when it comes to the border.
00:19:09.840 And I wanted to really bring light to the fact that he wouldn't give up the tools that he was using to abuse the entire, quote, you know, border policies that he had.
00:19:22.940 Like, you know, the presidential parole that he's been using.
00:19:26.180 So, you have Obama and Trump who paroled about 5,600 people on average a year using this presidential parole authority.
00:19:34.020 He has these entire programs where he's paroling on average about a million people a year, y'all.
00:19:39.100 And Lakin Riley's murderer was paroled into the nation under his presidential parole authority.
00:19:46.940 I mean, it was a choice of his, which I also have found interesting because I actually, you know, really accented that word.
00:19:53.280 Like, that he chose to let into the country, you know, to parole into the country.
00:19:58.640 And they've taken no issue with that because they know that it's his policies that are causing these things.
00:20:03.620 So, you're just trying to kind of sort of figure out how do we pack a punch in here in a short amount of time and respond to some of the things he said in a meaningful way.
00:20:12.680 So, look, I will say historically, the media has had two attacks on Republicans.
00:20:18.380 That a Republican is either stupid or evil.
00:20:22.260 And by the way, history shows stupid is the much better attack.
00:20:26.200 So, in the media's telling, Ronald Reagan was stupid.
00:20:29.600 Dan Quayle was stupid.
00:20:30.780 George W. Bush was stupid.
00:20:33.640 Nixon was evil.
00:20:34.980 Dick Cheney was evil.
00:20:36.120 Donald Trump is evil.
00:20:37.260 Between the two, it's clear stupid is better.
00:20:39.400 They sort of took a variation on a theme with you and they went with crazy.
00:20:45.340 And look, to their narrative, you're not allowed to be a conservative.
00:20:50.400 You're not allowed to embrace common sense.
00:20:52.580 You're not allowed to reject the left-wing dogma unless there's something wrong with you.
00:20:57.640 And so, they didn't go with stupid.
00:20:59.140 They didn't go with evil.
00:21:00.000 They just said, crazy lady.
00:21:01.440 For the past 10 years, Patriot Mobile has been America's only Christian conservative wireless provider.
00:21:07.460 And when I say only, I mean it.
00:21:09.360 Patriot Mobile is a company that I use.
00:21:12.400 I look down at my phone and in the top left, it says Patriot.
00:21:16.900 Now, I love that because it means I'm giving my money to a company that actually is fighting for the values that I believe in.
00:21:23.380 You may not know this, but Big Mobile that you're with right now is probably giving massive donations
00:21:28.860 to liberal causes, candidates, organizations that include Planned Parenthood.
00:21:36.280 If you are sick and tired of giving your money to companies that literally hate your values,
00:21:41.300 well, then switch your cell provider to Patriot Mobile.
00:21:45.220 The other thing about Patriot Mobile is you get the same exact service that you're used to right now
00:21:49.900 because they use all the three major networks that you're on, one of them right now.
00:21:55.380 That means you get the same coverage that you're used to without funding the left.
00:22:00.420 And when you switch to Patriot Mobile, this is where it gets great.
00:22:03.960 They actually take about 5% of your bill every month,
00:22:06.540 and they give it back to conservative causes and organizations that you help choose to support.
00:22:12.280 I'm talking about supporting free speech, religious freedom, the sanctity of life,
00:22:17.800 the Second Amendment, as well as our military, our veterans, and our first responder and wounded warriors.
00:22:23.840 They have 100% U.S.-based customer service team that makes switching easy.
00:22:29.140 And you can keep your same cell phone number you have right now.
00:22:32.240 So don't wait.
00:22:33.760 Make a difference with every phone call and get away from woke big companies.
00:22:38.660 Go to PatriotMobile.com slash verdict.
00:22:42.280 That's PatriotMobile.com slash verdict.
00:22:44.680 Or call them 972-PATRIOT.
00:22:47.360 That's 972-PATRIOT.
00:22:49.800 And get free activation when you use the promo code VERDICT.
00:22:53.340 PatriotMobile.com slash verdict or 972-PATRIOT.
00:22:58.280 I was watching it, and right when it went to your kitchen,
00:23:01.800 I was watching it with people, and I said, watch this.
00:23:05.060 They're going to say she just sent women back 50 years from doing this from her kitchen,
00:23:10.940 trying to put women back in the kitchen.
00:23:12.740 And sure enough, Twitter instantly blew up our X and social media of, oh, look at Republicans.
00:23:18.100 They think women can't have jobs.
00:23:19.880 I'm like, she's literally a sitting U.S. senator with the youngest one in the Senate right now.
00:23:24.000 And they're going to overlook that while she's giving the response.
00:23:27.080 And sure enough, that's what they did to try to undermine you.
00:23:29.160 Oh, I mean, yeah, I didn't see the chance from Go on that.
00:23:33.840 And the interesting thing is, is like, again, it goes back to the liberal media, and they're biased.
00:23:39.160 You've got Joe Biden, who actually mentions kitchen table, his dad's kitchen table,
00:23:44.400 and the, quote, trickle-down effect of economics in his speech.
00:23:48.660 And then I'm sitting at the kitchen table that he references.
00:23:51.600 And let's not forget that Elizabeth Warren actually launched her presidential campaign from her kitchen.
00:23:58.380 Although, to be clear, did you happen to see the footage of Elizabeth Warren, like, awkwardly pulling beer bottles out of her fridge?
00:24:05.880 Shut your mouth.
00:24:06.520 And it was, like, the weirdest—I'm sorry, this is not, like, a normal person who knows how to, like, drink a beer.
00:24:12.340 Uh-uh.
00:24:12.660 And, of course, she also has a gas stove, which Democrats want to ban.
00:24:16.000 Oh, my gosh.
00:24:16.660 And, listen, there's a long tradition.
00:24:18.620 I've filmed TV commercials in my kitchen.
00:24:22.320 Yeah.
00:24:22.380 That's where families talk to each other.
00:24:24.620 Exactly.
00:24:24.940 So it's perfectly normal, but they had to—the fact that they went after you that hard is proof that it scared them,
00:24:38.220 that they don't want to give permission for women and for moms to be Republican.
00:24:46.340 And the contrast—you could not ask for a starker contrast between Methuselah Scrooge and Katie Britt.
00:24:57.360 Like, that's a hell of a difference.
00:24:59.580 Thank you.
00:25:00.100 I appreciate it.
00:25:01.080 I do.
00:25:01.680 And I couldn't agree with you more.
00:25:03.500 I mean, it's—that's what we were talking about is the—obviously, not only kitchen table issues, but that's the place where we gather.
00:25:10.100 And I think that's threatening to them, that families gather.
00:25:12.720 That's where we have conversations.
00:25:15.480 That's where we pray for God's guidance.
00:25:17.740 I mean, that's where we literally talk about our days.
00:25:19.920 That's where we talk about the things we worry about.
00:25:21.900 You know, Katie, they would have liked it if you did, like, a transgender Wicca ritual in your kitchen.
00:25:26.940 You know, I should have added that in.
00:25:29.560 You know, that's true.
00:25:30.360 If we had talked about this first, you could have given me that idea.
00:25:32.620 There's a lot of that in Alabama, right?
00:25:33.840 I love it.
00:25:35.460 I love it.
00:25:36.540 Canadian women are looking for more.
00:25:38.700 More out of themselves, their businesses, their elected leaders, and the world around them.
00:25:42.880 And that's why we're thrilled to introduce the Honest Talk podcast.
00:25:46.520 I'm Jennifer Stewart.
00:25:47.780 And I'm Catherine Clark.
00:25:49.020 And in this podcast, we interview Canada's most inspiring women.
00:25:52.780 Entrepreneurs, artists, athletes, politicians, and newsmakers, all at different stages of their journey.
00:25:58.500 So if you're looking to connect, then we hope you'll join us.
00:26:01.500 Listen to the Honest Talk podcast on iHeartRadio or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
00:26:07.500 When you got done with your speech, like, I know there's that sigh of relief, okay.
00:26:13.060 And then there's the, how did it go, right, to your close team, your family that's in there watching this.
00:26:19.120 When did you start to see it off the rails?
00:26:19.960 By the way, were your kids watching?
00:26:21.340 Where were your kids?
00:26:22.880 Yeah, so we watched Biden's speech from the couch, like in the living room together as a family.
00:26:29.180 And then, again, we thought that it was going to be shorter than it was.
00:26:32.640 So they went ahead and headed, you know, out of the room because we were going to, it's the next room over.
00:26:37.720 So we wanted it to be quiet and, like, you know, had to go kind of sort of sit in and get ready.
00:26:42.580 So we watched it there together.
00:26:44.200 And then we did, I did this.
00:26:47.640 And then they came back in right after I finished.
00:26:48.640 And was Wesley there?
00:26:49.160 Was he watching the whole thing?
00:26:50.080 Yes, yes.
00:26:50.860 I mean, he went out with the kids to, like, watch it from another place.
00:26:53.260 And then he came back in, which actually was one of his favorite things about Saturday Night Live is that Scarlett Johansson was like, my husband, Wesley.
00:27:01.960 My husband, Wesley.
00:27:03.000 Loved it.
00:27:03.480 So one of the coolest things, Katie's husband, Wesley, is completely badass.
00:27:10.700 So he played football at University of Alabama.
00:27:15.320 Offensive line or defensive line?
00:27:16.640 Yeah, offensive line.
00:27:17.380 Offensive line.
00:27:17.920 I mean, he's a mountain of a man.
00:27:20.000 He's enormous.
00:27:20.840 And then he played for the New England Patriots for, what, 10 years?
00:27:23.320 That's right.
00:27:23.780 He played for about four or five.
00:27:25.800 Yeah.
00:27:26.340 With the pass.
00:27:26.900 So he's absolutely, what, six, seven?
00:27:30.240 Six, eight.
00:27:30.780 Three, 20.
00:27:31.500 Six, eight, three, 20.
00:27:32.700 You cannot miss him, Joel.
00:27:33.920 He takes up a door frame.
00:27:35.100 And by the way, Ben, Wesley has also played hoops with me in my weekly hoops game.
00:27:39.100 Ben has played also.
00:27:40.040 I played this afternoon.
00:27:41.520 I will tell you I am grateful to the end of time that Wesley just showed mercy on us.
00:27:47.420 Had he simply swung his elbows, he would have put me and every other person playing in
00:27:53.440 the hospital.
00:27:54.520 And he was a gentle giant.
00:27:56.120 And I am grateful for that restraint that he showed.
00:27:58.180 He loved playing with you.
00:27:59.260 He said, you're scrappy.
00:28:00.280 He said, man, don't get in his way.
00:28:02.120 It was.
00:28:02.880 Well, he could get in my way and he'd be just fine.
00:28:04.720 I'm still in reserve right now because of our last game.
00:28:06.800 So, you know, for the record.
00:28:07.920 He broke his finger playing hoops.
00:28:09.060 Did you really, Ben?
00:28:10.620 Yes.
00:28:11.400 Yes.
00:28:12.040 Broke my, I was thinking about workers comp, you know, calling, you know, one of those
00:28:15.400 lawyers, but that apparently wasn't worth it.
00:28:17.760 And by the way, playing hoops, this is what, probably two years ago when I was playing hoop,
00:28:22.780 I had a law clerk in my office who broke my thumb.
00:28:26.660 Oh my gosh.
00:28:27.400 And like, I went up for a rebound.
00:28:29.020 He came down and he was Tony from Brooklyn.
00:28:31.100 And like, Tony's a hell of a ball player, but he's a muscular guy, gold chain.
00:28:35.440 Yeah.
00:28:35.560 And he just like, he plays like he's in a street fight.
00:28:38.000 Yeah.
00:28:38.420 Okay.
00:28:39.300 And so he, he broke my thumb.
00:28:42.320 And as I told, told my youngest daughter, Catherine, when that happened, daddy said a really bad
00:28:47.320 word.
00:28:48.160 And when you break your thumb, that's, that's, that's, that's part of it.
00:28:51.880 It's part of it.
00:28:52.520 And then, but I'm very proud to say that, that I finished the game.
00:28:57.060 We won and I actually scored with a broken thumb.
00:29:00.140 Now, now I couldn't do a jump shot.
00:29:02.060 I tried and I literally yelped, but, but I did a finger roll and scored with a broken
00:29:07.060 thumb.
00:29:07.420 And then I went and got it in a brace and Ben, to his credit, we just played hoops a couple
00:29:11.580 of weeks ago where he broke his finger and you finished the game with a broken finger.
00:29:14.780 It was a strong move, Ben.
00:29:16.960 You know, go big or go home as they say, right?
00:29:19.640 That's right.
00:29:20.260 That's right.
00:29:20.660 Don't show weakness.
00:29:21.500 Like keep going.
00:29:22.220 Don't show weakness.
00:29:23.020 I wasn't going to, I was going to make sure that was my legacy.
00:29:25.360 So back to, I got to, I got to get back.
00:29:27.440 Cause I got to know what you, your thoughts were.
00:29:29.500 You get done, you look at your family, you look at your team.
00:29:33.080 And then when did you kind of figure out that this had gone off the rails and they were coming
00:29:39.440 after you with everything they have?
00:29:40.720 You know, um, so really fully the next morning, which I, which I'll tell you about, but that,
00:29:47.940 you know, in that moment, um, obviously, you know, had a lot of passion, put a lot of heart
00:29:53.860 and soul into it, but I think the American people are worth it, you know, and like you're
00:29:57.920 fighting, you know, you're fighting for these families and these families that Ted, like you're
00:30:02.720 traveling all over, obviously Texas right now, the country, the whole thing, me and Alabama,
00:30:07.800 these people want a voice.
00:30:09.740 I mean, they're, they're, they're saying, why does nobody get this?
00:30:12.540 I feel like I am beating my head up against the wall and they need somebody to fight for
00:30:17.140 them.
00:30:18.020 And so, you know, have a, have a little passion in there and, and get in there.
00:30:23.220 And, but really thought that, um, you know, I, I tried to deliver it with, with heart and
00:30:28.800 soul, um, because I do, I think the people of America are worth that.
00:30:32.440 And so, uh, we finished and we were excited and, you know, my daughter, um, like her,
00:30:39.060 one of the things that she said was that she really, the part about Lakin Riley really spoke
00:30:44.340 to her.
00:30:44.720 That was the part she, she is, um, does plays volleyball and basketball and runs track.
00:30:49.860 And so she actually goes out on runs, you know, and does, and does that.
00:30:53.940 And, um, you just think at, you know, you, you just, all of those things, she was like,
00:30:58.000 mom, that, that to me was, it was the best since we were just kind of sort of all talking
00:31:02.300 about it and we were excited.
00:31:04.160 And, you know, guys, it's strange because here you are preparing, you know, and I'd stayed
00:31:08.480 home for a couple of days, like preparing for potential topics and how we were, you
00:31:12.380 know, you've kind of got a draft speech, but then, you know, so that you can be nimble,
00:31:16.380 um, with regards to if there's something that you're, you're not expecting or there, but
00:31:21.040 to, to deliver a speech, uh, honestly, um, directly into a camera.
00:31:26.280 I've, I've never done that.
00:31:27.760 And obviously if you, if you were to do it again, you do it, you know, you would, you
00:31:32.200 would know and have kind of sort of that, um, the ability to like learn from, from doing
00:31:38.360 that, but you give speeches as, you know, to groups and to, um, you know, conventions
00:31:44.760 and to all of those kinds of things.
00:31:46.240 And so that's a very different thing to just be looking directly into the camera and people,
00:31:50.320 a lot of people thought that it was taped.
00:31:52.160 It's like, no, it's live.
00:31:53.560 Like you literally walk in the other room when he finishes, they give you a 15 minute
00:31:57.340 countdown and then it's live.
00:31:59.920 Look, I thought you were real.
00:32:01.600 I thought you were passionate.
00:32:02.680 I actually showed you the text I got from my dad that night when he texted me and said,
00:32:08.060 wow, Katie Britt just did an awesome job.
00:32:10.220 And by the way, my dad is a tough judge.
00:32:12.120 He, he, he does not, not think that frequently.
00:32:14.720 And listen, there's a long tradition, as you know, of the media savaging in particular Republican
00:32:21.340 responses.
00:32:21.940 So Bobby Jindal, when he did it, they just brutalized him.
00:32:25.360 Yeah.
00:32:25.780 And you remember Marco Rubio, poor Marco reached over and grabbed a bottle of water and they
00:32:30.280 went nuts.
00:32:31.460 Oh my God, he drinks water.
00:32:33.060 Yes.
00:32:33.400 Now I will say to Marco's credit, his response was pretty good.
00:32:37.040 His campaign website began selling bottles of water.
00:32:39.860 I think he raised like a hundred grand.
00:32:41.300 That is amazing.
00:32:42.180 Selling water online.
00:32:43.620 That, well, we're going to have to figure out what I can sell.
00:32:45.360 That's amazing.
00:32:45.880 No, but one of my favorite things was, um, there was a meme that said, why is Alabama
00:32:53.860 Kate Middleton so mad?
00:32:56.160 And I thought, this is the highest compliment.
00:32:58.060 Can we print this out and frame it and put it on my desk?
00:33:01.580 Kate Middleton and Scarlett Johansson.
00:33:03.220 Like that's a good night.
00:33:05.420 I'll take it.
00:33:06.160 If that's your worst day in politics, you're winning.
00:33:08.840 Hey, listen, Ben.
00:33:09.980 And I told someone, I was like, it felt like the slowest couple of days in politics forever.
00:33:14.960 I mean, I thought, can nothing else happen?
00:33:17.720 How many days can we go where I am literally the stories from the top to the bottom of each
00:33:24.780 one of these things?
00:33:25.420 And you would have thought like, I would have been better off having like behaved like some
00:33:29.460 of our colleagues that are like indicted for something or, or had like said something
00:33:35.500 outrageous.
00:33:35.940 I mean, my crime was like putting too much passion, too much heart and soul behind the
00:33:40.860 issues that I genuinely care about.
00:33:42.640 And they slaughtered me across the airways.
00:33:48.140 And so watching those things and getting that back, I kept thinking, can there not be another
00:33:53.420 news story?
00:33:54.320 And then finally, Kate Middleton saved me again with her Photoshop.
00:33:58.340 So I mean, I owe her twice this weekend.
00:34:01.780 Well, we may have to call you Princess Katie.

00:35:53.680 By the way, one of the biggest controversies coming out of the State of the Union was one
00:35:58.460 you didn't even have a chance to get to respond to.
00:36:02.160 And I want to get your take on this.
00:36:04.580 Biden used the word illegal immigrant when he was referencing the person who's been accused
00:36:12.760 of killing Lakin Riley.
00:36:14.920 The name, by the way, that he got wrong.
00:36:17.000 You mentioned that earlier.
00:36:17.920 Lincoln Riley's a football coach, USC, and he got it wrong.
00:36:22.540 But now he's gone on essence an apology tour to the illegal immigrant who is accused of
00:36:29.680 killing her.
00:36:30.980 And this is what he had to say on MSNBC.
00:36:33.620 And you didn't, obviously, I don't think anyone thought that this was actually going to happen
00:36:38.160 or be a controversy when you were doing your response.
00:36:40.600 But the biggest controversy from his whole night is actually now this.
00:36:43.940 Take a listen.
00:36:44.420 I noticed the look of surprise on your face when you walked into the chamber and you saw
00:36:48.320 Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
00:36:50.980 It was priceless.
00:36:52.220 You fainted shock at seeing her.
00:36:54.760 But during your response to her heckling of you, you used the word illegal when talking
00:37:00.420 about the man who allegedly killed Lakin Riley.
00:37:04.040 An undocumented person.
00:37:05.920 And I shouldn't have used it illegal.
00:37:07.240 I shouldn't have used it as undocumented.
00:37:08.520 And look, when I spoke about the difference between Trump and me, one of the things I talked
00:37:12.940 about in the border was that his, the way he talks about vermin, the way he talks about
00:37:17.160 these people polluting the blood.
00:37:19.000 I talked about what I'm not going to do, what I won't do.
00:37:21.780 I'm not going to treat any, any, any of these people with disrespect.
00:37:26.200 Look, they built the country.
00:37:27.800 The reason our economy is growing.
00:37:29.520 We have to control the border and more orderly flow.
00:37:32.340 But I don't share his view at all.
00:37:34.940 So you regret using that word?
00:37:37.080 Yes.
00:37:37.360 I regret using that word.
00:37:39.780 I'm sorry, basically, to the illegal immigrant for saying he's an illegal immigrant, not talking
00:37:44.420 about Lakin Riley.
00:37:45.520 No one could have seen that, that coming.
00:37:47.800 And that was something you didn't even get a chance to bring up because it hadn't in essence
00:37:51.600 happened yet.
00:37:52.580 That's exactly right.
00:37:54.140 And I mean, I still can't wrap my head around this.
00:37:58.280 You have him apologizing for, quote, mislabeling her murderer.
00:38:05.660 But not only did he not take that opportunity to correct her name, but the reporter didn't
00:38:14.000 even ask him.
00:38:15.680 I mean, think about that, Ted.
00:38:16.920 This shows they have an agenda.
00:38:18.780 They don't care about the things that they should.
00:38:23.920 Yeah.
00:38:24.060 So that interview is Jonathan Capehart.
00:38:26.320 It's on MSNBC.
00:38:28.180 And that exchange, it makes my blood boil.
00:38:31.800 Number one, his little aside saying they built this country.
00:38:35.240 No, Joe, illegal immigrants did not build the United States of America.
00:38:38.600 That is utter and complete garbage.
00:38:42.020 But number two, think about the priorities.
00:38:45.680 He comes off of, and I got to say, I think there are now two images that sum up the 2024
00:38:53.040 election.
00:38:54.720 Number one, there is the image of the illegal immigrants in New York City who beat up two
00:38:58.920 New York cops, were arrested, were released without bail, and they came out with both hands
00:39:04.300 flipping the bird at everyone.
00:39:06.840 And that image, flipping the bird, right and left hand, is what Joe Biden and the Democrats
00:39:13.020 are saying to the American people.
00:39:14.300 That's image number one.
00:39:16.060 And image number two is the contrast, right after the State of the Union, of Donald Trump
00:39:21.240 with Lake and Riley's family, hugging his mother.
00:39:24.040 Bingo.
00:39:24.660 Which is actually what someone who's a president, who gives a damn about the American people,
00:39:29.940 who is siding with our families, our moms, our kids, and simultaneously, Joe Biden is
00:39:38.020 on MSNBC apologizing because he referred to this murderer as an illegal.
00:39:44.600 Well, you know what?
00:39:45.580 He is an illegal.
00:39:46.480 He's an illegal and a murderer, and he never should have killed Lake and Riley.
00:39:51.400 Look at me now.
00:39:51.900 I'm using Joe Biden's phrase.
00:39:53.160 He never should have killed Lake and Riley.
00:39:55.340 And the only reason he was free to do so is because Joe Biden chose to let him go.
00:40:00.340 And not only that, Sanctuary City, New York City, let him go again.
00:40:04.560 And that is why that beautiful 22-year-old woman is dead now.
00:40:08.540 That's it.
00:40:09.400 And too, when you hear him do that, and you can't help but be enraged that not only that
00:40:16.900 this is what our president of the United States is choosing to focus on, but then the media
00:40:20.440 doesn't hold him accountable.
00:40:21.700 But I think people should see we have a very clear choice in November.
00:40:26.680 And this says it all.
00:40:28.360 You said it, Ted.
00:40:29.380 You have President Biden over here apologizing for mislabeling her murderer, and then you
00:40:36.480 have President Trump embracing her family.
00:40:39.860 And I think that is all Americans need to know.
00:40:42.420 The choice is clear.
00:40:43.440 We need President Trump back.
00:40:44.360 Which side are you on?
00:40:44.620 Which side are you on?
00:40:45.560 Exactly.
00:40:45.640 Bingo.
00:40:45.940 And that's your choice.
00:40:47.280 And if you side with illegal alien murderers, well, you probably should vote for Joe Biden.
00:40:52.220 Yeah.
00:40:52.320 If those are your peeps, if that's where your allegiance is.
00:40:54.920 By the way, MSNBC, CNN, they're all voting for Joe Biden because their allegiance is actually
00:40:59.980 with illegal alien murderers.
00:41:01.820 And by the way, you know, not only did Joe Biden not properly say Lake and Riley's name,
00:41:07.880 he didn't say Jeremy Caceres' name either.
00:41:09.760 Jeremy Caceres, beautiful two-year-old boy, murdered in Prince George's County, Maryland,
00:41:15.120 just a couple of weeks ago, again by another illegal alien Joe Biden released.
00:41:19.420 He didn't mention any of the American, of the teenagers who have been violently raped
00:41:24.600 by illegal immigrants.
00:41:26.000 He takes no responsibility for his own culpability.
00:41:30.180 And it is, you really couldn't ask for a clear contrast.
00:41:33.240 No, you couldn't.
00:41:33.940 And then also you think about fentanyl poisonings and you think about the decisions that have
00:41:37.520 been made.
00:41:38.020 They are all his.
00:41:38.860 He inherited the most secure border that our country has had.
00:41:42.500 And then he chose to halt deportations.
00:41:45.460 He chose to stop construction of the border wall.
00:41:48.720 He, I mean, he chose to say, I'm going to give amnesty to millions.
00:41:52.180 This is the thing that was so frustrating about the liberal media.
00:41:55.860 It's like these policies and then the 94 executive orders in the first 100 days are acting as
00:42:00.460 magnets, Ted.
00:42:01.860 There he is saying, come on.
00:42:03.640 And he is putting every one of those men, women, and children in harm's way.
00:42:07.420 Their cartels are using them in multiple ways.
00:42:11.460 You know, we've talked about some of the horrific things that are happening to them on their way
00:42:15.260 here when they get here.
00:42:16.680 It is mind boggling.
00:42:18.340 It is a not only national security crisis, but a humanitarian crisis that no reporter
00:42:24.540 is telling, you know, and they're choosing.
00:42:26.780 You focused earlier, you said, you know, about about sex trafficking.
00:42:30.000 They're not telling the story of human trafficking and what's happening under him.
00:42:34.360 Well, and you and I have both looked in the eyes of women and children who have been brutally
00:42:41.140 sexually assaulted by these human traffickers.
00:42:43.480 And when you see the pain, the agony, it sticks with you.
00:42:49.460 It haunts you.
00:42:50.840 Absolutely.
00:42:51.460 And this is happening day after day after day.
00:42:53.880 And I got to say, you know, Katie, just listening to you talk about this, you're making far too
00:42:57.860 much sense.
00:42:59.120 What you said is incredibly reasonable.
00:43:01.300 So that means necessarily you're crazy.
00:43:03.420 I'm sorry, but those are the rules.
00:43:05.180 Right.
00:43:05.600 And if you're making sense, you've got to be cuckoo with Cocoa Puffs.
00:43:09.500 You've got to be.
00:43:09.980 And I guess, you know, when you get in the arena, which the irony is in my remarks, you
00:43:16.300 know, I wanted to leave people with hope, Ted, because I believe that I believe in the people
00:43:22.740 of this nation and I believe in what we're built on and wanted to encourage everyone to
00:43:30.760 get in the arena because that's what we need them to do because we are literally fighting
00:43:34.260 for the heart and soul of our nation.
00:43:36.300 We are fighting for the future for our children and we need everybody stepping up.
00:43:41.220 So I said, you know, get in the arena.
00:43:42.620 Well, I found out real quick that I am in the arena.
00:43:45.180 And when you're in the arena, you get arrows.
00:43:48.280 But it's worth it.
00:43:49.560 If you're fighting for what families need, you're being a voice for the voiceless.
00:43:54.300 Amen.
00:43:54.500 Then I'll take those arrows, Ted, all day long, because that is what we're going to have to
00:44:02.280 do in order to get this country back on track and speak truth to power.
00:44:06.720 And we found out where the power is.
00:44:07.980 It's in the media.
00:44:08.780 And they want to silence anyone who doesn't think just like them.
00:44:13.320 And to use a military analogy, if you're not taking flack, you're not over the target.
00:44:17.600 There you go.
00:44:18.100 There is a reason they're coming after you.
00:44:20.820 And they tell you who they're afraid of.
00:44:23.080 So I would take, I was actually, I thought you did a terrific job, but I was actually
00:44:28.520 even happier with the job you did by seeing the freak out of the media.
00:44:33.160 That's right.
00:44:33.640 Because to be honest, if you'd sucked, they wouldn't have said anything.
00:44:37.240 If it were bad, they would have been like nothing to see here.
00:44:40.680 And so that they squeal this loudly tells you a great deal.
00:44:44.840 Well, and I do think you've got, here you have the president literally for an hour and
00:44:49.560 seven minutes, I guess is what is what you said it was, yelling and giving a political
00:44:55.100 speech in a space where he's supposed to be bringing our country together.
00:44:59.820 And then, you know, even, you know, as I mentioned, tried to leave the country with hope, because
00:45:05.560 I believe in our nation.
00:45:07.440 And I said, our nation's history is written with the grit of men and women who got knocked
00:45:13.960 down, but we know their stories because they did not stay down.
00:45:17.780 We are here because they stood back up.
00:45:22.320 And this is one of those moments where I'm just going to have to stand back up because
00:45:26.160 this fight is worth fighting.
00:45:27.980 And we have got, every voice has got to be lifted loud because there are people that are
00:45:32.780 counting on us, whether it is what's happening at our border, whether it is families that literally
00:45:38.060 cannot make ends meet.
00:45:39.200 I don't think, and I said this in my remarks as well, but I mean, I actually drove carpool
00:45:45.140 the day that I gave the State of the Union response.
00:45:48.100 So I was in.
00:45:49.760 All right, that is so awesome.
00:45:51.580 Right.
00:45:51.720 Well, you know, actually, you and Biden have something in common because he was actually
00:45:56.360 hanging outside of a junior high that day too.
00:45:59.240 Oh, I needed that.
00:46:00.500 I'm going to get in trouble for that comment.
00:46:02.680 That one, Ben, am I allowed to say that?
00:46:06.000 I don't know.
00:46:06.640 We'll find out.
00:46:07.500 That's your headline, right?
00:46:11.060 So you really drove carpool that day.
00:46:13.120 That is actually very cool.
00:46:14.440 I literally drove carpool that day.
00:46:15.920 To or from school or both?
00:46:16.980 Both.
00:46:17.360 Both.
00:46:17.780 I did both.
00:46:18.480 And so when I was in pickup line, actually, the head of the middle school was like, what
00:46:24.060 are you doing?
00:46:24.660 She had the little, you know, the little walkie talkie.
00:46:27.920 And she, you know, was and I said, I need, you know, I need Ridgeway.
00:46:31.320 And she was like, what are you doing?
00:46:32.900 I was like, I'm running carpool.
00:46:34.260 Um, so ran carpool, did all the things.
00:46:37.680 But you think about like, when's the last time he did something like that?
00:46:40.900 When's the last time you went to the grocery store and saw that eggs are like off the charts
00:46:44.840 and the price of meat and milk and all of the things.
00:46:48.140 And when's the last time he went and filled up his car with gas?
00:46:50.700 Because I promise you, it just gets more and more and more.
00:46:54.380 And you think this man is trying to make us energy dependent.
00:46:57.200 Katie, that's not fair.
00:46:58.400 He went to the store and he brought, bought buttermilk and molasses from Corn Pop.
00:47:03.780 You know what?
00:47:05.140 And so, so he, he understands.
00:47:07.920 I think he may be onto something.
00:47:09.920 Or maybe when he went to his beach retreat, he had someone run to the store for him.
00:47:14.000 But, but seriously, you know, and you think about, and I, you know, when I go walking
00:47:18.280 with my friends in the morning and I listen to the things they're concerned about, you know,
00:47:22.660 this is what people want a voice to.
00:47:25.780 And so if bringing a voice to that, if I get some flack for it and, you know, obviously,
00:47:31.680 you know, gave passionate remarks.
00:47:34.920 But I think that the response.
00:47:37.080 Never apologize for being passionate.
00:47:38.840 That's for sure.
00:47:39.800 That's right.
00:47:40.560 It's like, it's worth it.
00:47:41.780 You know, it's worth it.
00:47:42.900 The people are worth it, worth fighting for, and I'm going to keep doing it.
00:47:46.440 And I, and the, Hey, and the more they try to silence me, which by the way, they're doing
00:47:49.320 quite a bit right now.
00:47:50.280 It's a, I had to give a speech this morning, Ted, and I walk up there and you can tell everybody
00:47:55.180 is just kind of like on edge, right?
00:47:57.700 Because they're thinking she has just been plummeted for the last solid four days.
00:48:02.720 And we've seen her and, uh, in a number of memes and this and that.
00:48:07.440 And, um, I think, you know, the, the scary mom one was also a good one because I thought,
00:48:12.940 you know what?
00:48:13.360 That means they really are afraid because everybody knows when your mom goes into scary mom mode,
00:48:18.380 like get out of the way because stuff's about to get done.
00:48:22.500 Do you know what I mean?
00:48:23.420 I know exactly what you mean.
00:48:24.700 I mean, just don't move over because we're about to take care of business, right?
00:48:29.340 Look, and, and, and you know what?
00:48:31.320 There are a lot of moms in America who are pissed off at everything that's happening.
00:48:35.060 And you gave voice to that.
00:48:37.040 And it wasn't the, the angry, bitter way that Biden did it, but it was, if you're paying
00:48:44.320 attention, you ought to be upset.
00:48:46.820 Listen, if you were Lake and Riley's mom.
00:48:49.340 Exactly.
00:48:49.740 Like, like imagine number one, the grief and agony you feel, but imagine the fury you feel
00:48:56.460 that this was unnecessary.
00:48:57.980 And, and, and it's a result of a political agenda that said, your family doesn't matter.
00:49:04.260 And by the way, the next person murdered by an illegal alien that Joe Biden lets in,
00:49:09.600 they're going to feel the same way.
00:49:11.060 They keep doing this.
00:49:13.660 And that's not who he's apologizing to.
00:49:15.620 And it made me so mad.
00:49:17.560 He stood up there and flippantly said that, said her name wrong.
00:49:20.660 You know, it just, it, I thought you have got as a mom.
00:49:24.100 And by the way, his response, he said, well, she was killed by an illegal, but how many
00:49:29.480 are killed by legals?
00:49:30.860 Now, what does that mean?
00:49:32.160 And of course, MSNBC didn't ask about that.
00:49:34.980 How many are killed by legals?
00:49:36.560 So what you're saying is that your crime policy is terrible also, and there's lots of murders.
00:49:40.380 Yeah, I agree with that.
00:49:41.900 Also that.
00:49:42.300 But, but that's not much of a defense.
00:49:44.520 Well, gosh, we're killing even more Americans that, that, that is, and of course, no scrutiny
00:49:49.980 from, from the corporate media on any.
00:49:51.540 None.
00:49:51.820 And, and he also, he's killing the American dream because he's continuing to put Americans
00:49:56.960 last.
00:49:58.300 And you, we, only thing we can ask for is an opportunity to achieve, opportunity to try
00:50:03.520 and fail.
00:50:04.500 And you look at him and he continues to put policies in place that, that limit anyone's
00:50:10.820 ability to, to, to, to try and achieve because he's prioritizing a liberal agenda above, above
00:50:19.680 that.
00:50:20.060 I mean, it's everything from energy to the border to, to prices.
00:50:24.760 I mean, that's one thing, Ted, like I'm on the banking committee and I cannot believe the
00:50:30.380 agenda in the financial sector.
00:50:33.160 I mean, all of the ESG and the D I mean, it just, it is tremendous.
00:50:37.780 So I feel like at every turn we are having to fight to preserve what I know this nation
00:50:42.780 was founded on and to try to preserve it for our kids.
00:50:46.200 And it's worth it.
00:50:47.660 So, so I had a little fun with it.
00:50:49.780 Like I said, this morning, when I got up to give that those remarks, everyone was on edge
00:50:53.400 and I said, Hey guys, I haven't, haven't had access to Twitter.
00:50:59.680 Is there anything going on that I need to know about?
00:51:01.820 And the whole, the whole crowd, whole crowd started, started laughing, but have, have had
00:51:06.940 a little bit of fun with that.
00:51:08.100 Laughter gets you through everything.
00:51:09.260 It does.
00:51:09.920 It does.
00:51:10.480 It absolutely does.
00:51:12.260 Senator, thank you so much for coming on Burdick.
00:51:14.320 It was really fun to hear this outside and different perspective from you and, and, and
00:51:19.200 hear behind the scenes of how this happens and the response happens and keep up the good
00:51:23.840 fight.
00:51:24.280 I love your passion.
00:51:26.320 I love your inspiration for young girls and women who are conservative and proud moms.
00:51:32.000 That is, I think the most important thing here is that, you know, I think the left has
00:51:36.080 done a great job of claiming feminism and claiming women voters.
00:51:40.100 And sometimes we don't do a good enough job, I think of reminding moms like, Hey, we're
00:51:44.560 here for you.
00:51:45.280 We're supporting you.
00:51:46.180 We're advocating for you and your kids and the laws that we can advocate for to protect
00:51:51.880 your kids.
00:51:52.560 So thank you for being a voice for that as well.
00:51:55.120 There were so many moms that were watching.
00:51:56.960 I know that we're very, very proud of you.
00:51:58.820 Thank you.
00:51:59.540 It was certainly an honor.
00:52:01.800 Um, like I, like I said, when I, when I spoke to them, when they asked, I mean, um, it is
00:52:07.100 humbling to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of our party and on behalf of hard
00:52:13.460 working parents and families, um, who, who want somebody to fight for them and fight for
00:52:19.820 this country and fight for the issues that matter.
00:52:21.840 And so, um, got in there and gave it all I got.
00:52:25.420 Uh, Hey, I would recommend if you're ever giving a speech direct to camera, you know, figure
00:52:29.860 out how that works live.
00:52:31.440 It's, it's a lot.
00:52:32.840 Um, but, but loved it.
00:52:35.180 And, um, and actually I have, um, it's an honor to take the arrows too, because that means
00:52:41.400 that we are right on the issues.
00:52:44.640 Um, there you notice they're not, they are not plummeting me on the issues that, uh, that
00:52:50.500 I talked about.
00:52:51.680 Um, they're, they're, uh, going after my passion and I'm going to keep that passion.
00:52:57.280 I'm going to keep fighting, um, for what I know is right and what I believe in.
00:53:01.580 And Ted, I'll say to you, it is an honor to fight alongside you.
00:53:05.220 There is nobody, um, who is better at, at being fierce and calling the left down and
00:53:12.240 speaking the truth, um, directly in the way that you do.
00:53:16.100 And so enjoy serving with you, enjoy learning from you, and certainly enjoy the grace you
00:53:21.620 showed me by allowing me to be on here tonight and, and talk about this, uh, super fun few
00:53:27.380 days I've had.
00:53:28.480 Well, this has been a blast.
00:53:29.520 Thank you for joining us.
00:53:30.500 And, and it's, it's a lot of fun to serve with you as well.
00:53:32.940 And I look forward to being in many a foxhole for a long, long time fighting for our country
00:53:38.000 and fighting with a smile and with joy and, and, and fighting back against the lunatics
00:53:43.600 who are trying to take our country down.
00:53:45.180 You get it.
00:53:46.040 Amen to that.
