00:02:40.300 it has grown 3,000% last year.

00:02:45.520 are either women or teenage girls.
00:02:48.600 And I'll tell you how this issue
00:02:50.460 first came to my attention.
00:02:52.280 It came from a Texas girl
00:02:55.540 who was targeted by this,
00:02:56.880 a girl named Elliston Berry,
00:02:59.720 who last year, she's 15 now,
00:03:01.600 last year she was 14,
00:03:02.880 she was in ninth grade,
00:03:04.280 and she woke up one Monday morning,
00:03:06.240 and her phone started blowing up.
00:03:08.020 And all of her friends let her know
00:03:10.240 that a classmate of hers,
00:03:13.320 a boy in her class,
00:03:14.260 had taken what was a perfectly innocent picture of her
00:03:17.860 on social media,
00:03:19.200 and used an AI app online
00:03:22.800 to create deepfakes,
00:03:24.660 and he created what appeared to be
00:03:26.360 naked pictures of her.
00:03:27.840 Now they weren't,
00:03:28.660 but you couldn't tell from looking at them,
00:03:30.120 and then he sent them
00:03:31.520 to every one of her classmates.
00:03:33.060 So this poor girl, 1.00
00:03:33.940 look, it's hard to be a teenager,
00:03:36.000 it's hard to be a teenage girl,
00:03:37.540 but if you could imagine the nightmare
00:03:39.160 of every one of your classmates

00:04:46.660 and so it's a hole in the law.
00:04:49.200 So part of what Elliston discovered
00:04:50.720 in Texas is there was nothing
00:04:51.960 she could do about it.
00:04:52.820 This kid could send out these pictures
00:04:54.640 and there was no consequence at all.
