Summary

In this episode of the Energy Matters podcast, I talk about the growing demand for oil and gas in Norway and why they should be worried about being left behind in their exploration efforts. I also talk a little bit about why Canada needs to get its act together and get the lights turned on.

00:00:00.300 Meanwhile, Norway is smart enough to say, hey, world demand is going up.
00:00:04.420 It's growing.
00:00:05.300 People want oil and gas, whether they like it or not.
00:00:08.140 It's like the ESG thing.
00:00:09.600 You can talk and virtue signal all you want.
00:00:12.100 When it comes to actually hitting the light switch and having the lights come on, that's all that matters in the end.
00:00:16.760 And Norway realizes that.
00:00:18.500 You know, people talk about that massive fund that Norway has.
00:00:21.020 Why didn't Alberta do that?
00:00:22.020 Well, because Norway doesn't have Quebec.
00:00:24.280 It's a big difference.
00:00:25.040 It's a big anchor hanging around the neck of Alberta.
00:00:28.380 We've had to pay, of course, billions and billions in equalization.
00:00:31.580 Anytime we make money, we get it drained out of us to keep feeding our eastern parasitic cousins there.
00:00:40.100 So, you know, it's not fair to make a direct comparison between Norway's resource management strategies and Alberta's.
00:00:47.520 They're completely different.
00:00:49.620 And they have different challenges ahead of them.
00:00:51.040 Either way, hopefully, maybe, you know, with the pragmatism, the expansion coming from Norway with expanding their conventional energy exploration might inspire some of our decision makers in Canada to realize, yes, we're getting left behind.
00:01:03.980 We've got to, you know, sure, eventually, eventually, maybe in a century, oil and gas will no longer be used.
00:01:10.080 But that just tells us, well, let's get it out and use it while we can then and while it's viable.
00:01:14.120 So maybe that'll sink in with a few folks.
