The City of Calgary is asking a woman to remove a small swing hanging from one of the branches

of a big tree steps from her house in the West Hillhurst neighborhood.

On Wednesday, I came home from work to find a violation, a notice in my mailbox
00:00:18.720
with instructions that this tree swing is in violation of a tree protection order
00:00:24.800
and needs to be removed immediately. The next day there was a peace officer at my door less than
00:00:31.760
24 hours after issuing the notice informing me that I had not yet removed the swing and could be fined
00:00:41.120
and he proceeded to remove the swing for me. I'm disappointed that the City is so aggressive in
00:00:49.040
enforcing these violations when there's a lot of other things that are going on that I think the
00:00:53.920
City could be spending their time on, whether that is making sure packages aren't stolen off of
00:01:00.400
people's front porch, there's garage break-ins, bike thefts, somehow being so diligent about enforcing
00:01:08.400
a tree protection order and removing a childhood swing. It surprises me that that's the priority of the City.

Um, not remove childhood swings. In an email to the Western Standard, the City says the swing needs to
00:01:29.600
be removed for two reasons, an enforcement and parks perspective. Tula Mazloum, Western Standard.
