Summary

In this episode, we take a look at the history of famine and famine in the past and look at how technology has contributed to the eradication of hunger and famine around the world. We also talk about the impact of climate change and the potential impact it could have on food production and food access.

00:00:00.240 Worldwide, as recently as 1870, they hovered around 29 years. That was it. That's as long as we're
00:00:06.160 going to live. Now, the advent of the Industrial Revolution was a game changer. I mean, it changed
00:00:10.160 dramatically. So we got modern means of production, transportation advances, of course, the combustion
00:00:15.780 engine. It led to a number of other technological advances, and we suddenly had an explosive
00:00:20.000 improvement in the standard of living all around the world and expanded our life expectancies.
00:00:24.620 So world life expectancy rose from 34 in 1913 to 46 by 1950, and it sits around 73 worldwide
00:00:32.020 today. And in developed nations like our own, it's well over 80 years of age. Now, one of the main
00:00:37.440 causes of early mortality historically used to be starvation and malnutrition. Food nutrition,
00:00:43.100 their food production and preservation and distribution couldn't keep up with growing
00:00:45.840 populations. So we'd have starvation, you know, up and down in times of drought, war, and the actions
00:00:50.420 of dictatorships, like Stalin. It was relatively common until only just a few days ago. Now, the
00:00:55.880 world's population, and I'm going somewhere with all this, was around 1.5 billion in 1870, and even
00:01:01.880 then we couldn't feed much of it. The world population now is around 8 billion, and famine is actually
00:01:07.580 barely a factor in mortality. I mean, when we look at the stats, almost 18 out of 100,000 people die
00:01:13.500 annually from heart disease. 0.3 out of 100,000 die of starvation. This is a nice development.
00:01:21.100 Now, we can't sustain human population growth in perpetuity, but we've learned that well-fed,
00:01:26.200 prosperous nations tend to have the least amount of children. In most of the wealthiest cities in the
00:01:30.540 world, population through local childbirth is actually going down. People who can afford to only
00:01:34.980 have one, two, or perhaps even no children tend to do so. Developing nations, though, having large
00:01:40.380 families is essential. With so many children dying young, unfortunately, due to disease, malnutrition,
00:01:45.080 such, couples produce a large number of kids to make up the difference. And in some of the poorer
00:01:48.820 nations, it's essential to have a large family to ensure that parents are cared for by children in
00:01:53.480 their older years, because they don't have luxuries like pension plans. Now, if we're indeed concerned
00:01:58.920 with slowing the growth of human population, you know, for the sake of the earth, the path's pretty
00:02:02.920 clear. We need to modernize nations as much as possible and ensure they're well-fed. I mean,
00:02:07.400 while starvation itself is rarely a killer any longer, malnutrition still contributes to many
00:02:12.660 premature deaths. It's a factor, and we have a lot of room to improve on food security and access
00:02:16.860 around the world. So here's where we get to Canada. Climate-obsessed, including Canada's own
00:02:23.120 government, are fixated on attacking just about every advancement that human humanity has made in
00:02:27.180 the last century. Energy impacts the cost of everything, and the green lunacy has contributed
00:02:31.720 to shooting the cost of energy up at every opportunity as they work to shut down affordable means of
00:02:36.840 energy generation in favor of impractical ones such as wind and solar. World energy prices are harming
00:02:42.480 us, and in developed nations, they're outright devastating. You know, it's just they can't
00:02:47.540 afford these hikes and things. So not consent, though, not content the green federal level government
00:02:51.980 with just raising the food costs through spikes in energy costs. The Canadian government's now under
00:02:56.400 the guidance of the UN setting their sights on attacking Canadian grain farmers. Yes, a new discussion
00:03:02.580 document released by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada titled, Reducing Emissions Arising from the
00:03:08.100 Application of Fertilizer in Canada's Ag Sector Targets Grain Producers for Emission Reductions.
00:03:12.960 And they've set massive targets, of course, just like they have with everything else, to cut it down.
00:03:17.620 The government wants to crack down on fertilizer use among farmers. Now, modern fertilizers are a
00:03:24.300 massive component in the mix of technological advances that have led to the world's virtual elimination
00:03:28.840 of famine. Smaller plots of land can produce food more intensively and efficiently than ever
00:03:33.980 imaginable. If we get rid of modern chemical means of fertilizer, crop yields are going to
00:03:38.880 dramatically drop and immediately drop. Composting and using livestock dung, hey, that's all fine and
00:03:44.660 dandy for home and hobby farm operations. We need modern controlled and broadly applied fertilizers in
00:03:50.600 order to get viable returns in a commercial farm operation. Of all the types of crops that contribute to
00:03:56.540 feeding the world, cereals top the list. They can be produced en masse. They have strong nutritional
00:04:01.180 value. They keep well for cost-efficient shipping and storage. If you want to starve the world,
00:04:06.600 the best place to begin would be hindering grain production. Canada is the third largest weed
00:04:10.940 exporter in the world, and we rank among the top producers of many other grains as well. If we attack
00:04:15.420 our own grain production, the impact's not only going to crush our local domestic farmers and put pressure
00:04:21.260 on local food prices, it's going to impact food supply around the world. You can't be stressed enough just how
00:04:27.200 dangerous this government plan to metal and grain production could be. Now, Russia and Ukraine are also top
00:04:33.700 grain producers in the world, and due to the ongoing war there, exports from both nations, of course, are dropping.
00:04:39.900 Not that the Trudeau's government plan to crack down on Canadian grain farmers will ever be a good one, but it's hard to
00:04:44.400 imagine a worse time to do it than right now. If we really do care about the environment, we need to be
00:04:48.880 increasing food production and security. We need to be bringing developed nations into energy and food
00:04:54.340 security so they can take on environmental initiatives of their own. Nobody cares about global warming when
00:04:59.840 they're starving or freezing to death. Crunching food supplies is going to lead to famine, and it's going to lead to
00:05:04.840 other forms of unrest. Unfortunately, privileged climate crusaders such as Justin Trudeau and David Suzuki rarely look
00:05:11.160 beyond their own comfortable affluent worlds. They want to make their personal mark on the world through battling climate
00:05:16.560 change and don't really care what the human cost will come with it. Just let them eat cake, right? The Trudeau plan to hit
00:05:22.400 the ag sector could be the most destructive of his entire tenure as a prime minister. It isn't making much news yet, but it
00:05:28.760 should. We may be returning to a world where starvation becomes a leading cause of deaths in some nations again, and all because
00:05:34.640 climate extremists who can't or won't see the impacts of their policies. Keep an eye on this one, guys.
00:05:41.160 We've got a lot of bad policy going on already. Going after our farmers now, demanding reductions in 20% to 30% in the
00:05:49.860 emissions below 2020 levels. That's some of the things in their plan. It's going to be devastating. It's not just
00:05:55.700 going to hit us, it's going to hit the world. That Trudeau government is dangerous.
