Transcript

00:00:00.000 Mr. Sarai, Dave Naylor with the Western Standard.
00:00:02.960 You have held some policies that Westerners haven't liked.
00:00:06.600 Long gun registry, the carbon tax, your work with the Chinese Huawei group when they were holding prisoners.
00:00:15.080 How are you going to overcome those obstacles in the West?
00:00:17.780 You have a list there.
00:00:19.980 Let's start with Huawei.
00:00:21.440 And, you know, what we did in Huawei, I'm very proud of what we did in helping to sort out the situation of Ms. Meng Wanzhou.
00:00:30.580 And I worked with the family of Michael Kovrig so that we could free the two Michaels.
00:00:36.560 And we worked with them very, very closely throughout the whole process.
00:00:41.380 And I never did anything and would have never done anything that would have been contrary to the interests of my country.
00:00:46.700 So, in fact, we were very, very active in helping resolve that matter and to bring the two Michaels home.
00:00:53.240 So, on that, on the long gun registry, the police forces in Quebec are the ones who said,
00:00:58.760 if you're going to do away with the registry, why don't you just transfer over to us the information that's there?
00:01:03.700 That's the long and the short of it on that.
00:01:07.100 It was very simple to do.
00:01:09.340 And your other question was on...
00:01:10.480 Carbon tax.
00:01:11.060 Well, we will have an opportunity to talk about that during the campaign, but let me start by the beginning.
00:01:17.600 We need a very, very comprehensive approach that includes policies that are going to promote economic growth
00:01:25.040 and make sense by themselves.
00:01:26.620 Carbon capture and storage, blue hydrogen, green hydrogen, small modular reactors.
00:01:33.640 Hydro, of course, is part of that.
00:01:35.500 Biofuels.
00:01:36.100 I mean, those are the things that we need to be smart about.
00:01:38.660 And I'm very committed to designing a policy that is going to be good and will deal with transition.
00:01:45.540 I'll give you an example.
00:01:46.880 I was in Europe a few weeks ago.
00:01:48.680 The European Commission just announced their transition energy policy.
00:01:53.440 And in their transition, they're including nuclear and natural gas.
00:01:58.380 And they're doing it for a reason, because it makes sense.
00:02:02.020 If you want to transition to a point where you take carbon out of the economy or the energy sector,
00:02:08.700 well, then that's what you have to do.
00:02:10.460 You need to be smart about it.
00:02:12.200 And that's what we'll do for Canada.
00:02:13.860 But the provinces will be part of that.
00:02:15.720 And the industry will participate in that.
00:02:18.400 Do you think that...
00:02:19.100 Do you think...
00:02:19.580 Do you think...
00:02:20.260 Do you think...
00:02:20.840 Do you think...
00:02:20.920 Do you think...
00:02:23.020 Do you think...
00:02:24.020 Do you think...
