00:00:00.000 But it truly is a great day for the people of Fort Saskatchewan, for Albertans and for all Canadians.
00:00:05.800 It's a day that's been in the works, as you've heard for a number of years, and we are absolutely thrilled
00:00:09.840 that Dow Chemical will build the world's first net zero ethylene and derivatives complex right here
00:00:15.140 in Alberta's industrial heartland. This investment is a vote of confidence in Alberta.
00:00:20.840 It reinforces the work that we have done to ensure our province is the best place in the country
00:00:25.560 to invest and to do business. We have what the world needs, and I'm pleased to say that Dow has
00:00:30.600 recognized that, citing our natural gas and ethane as some of the reasons that they chose to make this
00:00:35.200 investment in Alberta. In addition, we've got low taxes, a strong focus on reducing red tape,
00:00:41.080 and our Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program, or APIP. APIP has been crucial in attracting this
00:00:46.660 investment, and through the various phases of the project, will contribute approximately $1.8 billion.
00:00:51.900 APIP has been doing exactly what it was designed to do, attract investment, and because it's working,
00:00:57.840 Alberta can look forward to thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions through
00:01:03.020 Dow's investment. It is another step forward in expanding Alberta's diversified energy economy as we
00:01:08.760 do more with our resources and add value to them, and it's further proof of our province's determination
00:01:15.160 to reach carbon-neutral status by 2050 by developing carbon capture utilization and storage technology,
00:01:22.200 which is why we also announced the new Alberta Carbon Capture Incentive Program yesterday to dovetail
00:01:27.200 with the announcement that the federal government has made. Progress in Alberta will also create big
00:01:32.020 gains in the entire country. The world needs Alberta's oil and gas in every form, from crude to refined.
00:01:37.620 It needs more Canadian energy for security, for stability, for peace, and for prosperity. Alberta can
00:01:44.180 support Canada's international reputation as a dependable, democratic, stable supplier of energy
00:01:49.940 products, and we can do more and do it more sustainably than ever, as we steadily reduce emissions
00:01:55.460 from production. The result will be hundreds of billions of dollars in revenues and thousands more
00:02:00.660 jobs in supporting industries all across Canada. All of this is cause for a celebration, and I am grateful to
00:02:06.660 everyone who made today's decision possible. As you know, it started before me, thanks to our former
00:02:11.860 Premier Jason Kenney, as well as our former Environment Minister and Energy Minister Sonja Savage, Doug Schweitzer,
00:02:17.220 Dale Nally, and Jason Nixon, who all worked together to help move this project forward, and thanks again
00:02:22.420 to the folks at Dow for your continued faith in Alberta. This decision is full of promise for Alberta's
00:02:28.500 energy industry. I look forward to seeing that promise realized in full, and the next time Minister
00:02:33.700 Champagne and I share a stage, we'll be in Dubai at COP28, and I'm so glad you've given us such a great
00:02:38.500 story to tell on the international stage.
