The University of Calgary wants to hire 45 new professors over the next three years, but they must all be members of what the university calls equity-deserving groups. It sounds like something that would be going on in some super-woke campus near Martha's Vineyard, but it's in Canada, in Calgary. Welcome to Canada's world of unequal opportunity.

00:00:00.000 By now, it should be out there that the University of Calgary has implemented a hiring policy
00:00:06.060 based not on merit, but on racial discrimination.
00:00:11.620 U of C wants to hire 45 new professors over the next three years.
00:00:16.620 Whatever else they bring to the job, they must all be members of what the university calls
00:00:22.820 equity-deserving groups.
00:00:25.760 It's completely outrageous, of course.
00:00:27.980 And the job specs are very specific.
00:00:32.060 A business teaching opportunity open only to qualified women in the faculty of nursing.
00:00:37.900 They want a director of indigenous initiatives who must be, guess what, a qualified indigenous scholar
00:00:44.340 and at Haskane as a professorship. 0.96
00:00:47.260 But you have to be black. 1.00
00:00:49.260 So white men need not apply. 0.83
00:00:51.520 But of course, neither should Hispanics or people of South Asian or Chinese heritage. 0.99
00:00:57.980 It sounds like something that would be going on in some super-woke campus near Martha's Vineyard.
00:01:05.700 But it isn't.
00:01:06.560 It's in Canada, in Calgary.
00:01:09.040 Welcome to Canada's world of unequal opportunity.
00:01:12.360 Or maybe it's equal dis-opportunity. 0.96
00:01:14.220 For heaven's sake, people of all races come to this country looking to get away from this kind of rubbish. 1.00
00:01:21.640 Canada is seen all over the world as a city on a hill.
00:01:25.280 A place where people tell each other, it doesn't matter where you're from, it only matters where you're going.
00:01:31.300 Canada's freedom, man.
00:01:33.180 And if you really want to be all you can be, come to Alberta, where nothing stops you living your dream.
00:01:39.880 Except, maybe, the dullards at what used to be Alberta's best university. 1.00
00:01:46.120 How do we come to this? 0.88
00:01:47.740 Well, there's a couple of reasons.
00:01:51.020 One is personal.
00:01:52.760 The other has to do with Ottawa.
00:01:54.620 The personal one is that too many people aren't too brave.
00:01:59.340 The left-wing proposition pushed by radicals within and without the government of Canada
00:02:04.440 is that unless the ethnic makeup of any particular profession reflects the country's overall ethnic composition,
00:02:13.260 there's racism going on.
00:02:14.940 Therefore, to fight racism, you need to go out and find people to restore the balance.
00:02:19.580 However, there are all sorts of reasons why people will choose one profession and avoid another.
00:02:28.260 If you come from countries where the police are oppressive,
00:02:32.540 you may not see it as an honor to serve and protect.
00:02:38.040 Women can drive trucks if they want to in Canada. 1.00
00:02:41.620 Most, I notice, would rather not. 0.98
00:02:44.300 In other words, it's a rubbish theory.
00:02:46.180 Anybody who's old enough to be on the University of Calvary board or to be in senior administration there knows that.
00:02:55.980 They were raised in a culture that had already rejected racial discrimination in hiring
00:03:01.360 and instead, as a young person, would have immediately and with deep conviction
00:03:06.560 argued that if there was a job open, it should go to the best man or woman, regardless of skin color. 0.99
00:03:14.820 So they know that what they're doing is rubbish.
00:03:18.660 And they would also have known, in those days, Martin Luther King had a dream and they shared it. 0.93
00:03:24.700 Everybody was equal.
00:03:26.200 Merit.
00:03:27.260 That's how you hired people.
00:03:30.240 Especially surgeons and airline pilots.
00:03:33.720 What changed their minds then?
00:03:35.880 Not illumination, I wager.
00:03:37.260 Just fear of being cancelled for not having the right opinions.
00:03:42.660 Because that's what happens in academia these days if you have a mind of your own.
00:03:48.060 Remember, none of this is designed to help specific people who have been unfairly treated.
00:03:55.000 This is about divvying up benefit, power, privilege between groups of people.
00:04:01.800 It's not about fairness among individuals.
00:04:05.320 And it's not about creating that famous level playing field upon which all compete with the biggest rewards going to the best.
00:04:15.740 So, a shortage of kahunis among the majority of the U of C Board of Governors is the first thing. 1.00
00:04:23.140 The second reason this is happening, the government reason, is that recent federal research grant programs mandate diversity in research grant applications.
00:04:35.240 That is, if you want money from Ottawa, and that's where almost all the big research grants come from,
00:04:42.500 then you have to adopt and enforce federal diversity policies.
00:04:47.760 Mr. Trudeau would have it so.
00:04:49.320 I've spoken before on these shows about how the federal liberals use taxpayer funds to mold public opinion.
00:04:56.980 They give money to people who will say what they want them to say and cut off people they don't like.
00:05:04.360 Same thing here.
00:05:06.720 If the U of C or any other Alberta university publicly refuses to use such diversity,
00:05:14.660 reverse discrimination policies that Ottawa may cut off the money to their faculty members.
00:05:23.400 So, I think we can all get it.
00:05:26.080 But that doesn't mean we have to like it or let it go on.
00:05:31.380 When people will call you racist for objecting to race-based hiring, which they will,
00:05:38.400 don't adjust your set.
00:05:40.040 It's reality that's at fault.
00:05:41.540 If the government of Alberta is going to go to war with Ottawa,
00:05:45.960 here's one more thing to fight about.
00:05:48.040 But first, let's give the U of C board a spine injection. 0.63
00:05:53.260 And if we must, pass out some research grants of our own among their faculty. 0.99
00:05:59.700 This is rubbish. 0.96
00:06:01.660 It has to stop. 0.99
00:06:04.760 For the Western Standard, I'm Nigel Hannaford.
00:06:09.000 Canadian Shooting Sports Association, without the CSSA, our gun rights would have been taken long, long ago.
00:06:18.180 These guys are on the front lines, helping to draft smart and intelligent firearms regulations and legislation in Canada.
00:06:25.400 And more importantly, educating the public about how we keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people.
00:06:31.160 If you become a member, it's absolutely worth every penny.
00:06:36.060 You can become a Western Standard member for just $10 a month or $99 a year for unlimited access.
00:06:41.660 So, OK.
00:06:42.680 Next up, please look forward to us.
00:06:44.680 Well done.
00:06:45.380 My favourite problem is Aaron Levy Center.
00:06:46.820 So, if the internet has built for us tonight, I'm going to take the bows.
00:06:48.620 I'll have a break that up for you guys.
00:06:50.640 Well done.
00:06:51.160 So, people granted kids.
00:06:52.500 Let's be honest.
00:06:53.380 Awesome up for something.
00:06:54.800 Anything isn't fair to get thebbles in the top uh picture on top of the 9th edition.
00:06:57.340 I don't take charge one of the illustrative tips.
00:06:59.080 I mean to be honest with the amplitude of a camera that consensely
