Summary

Bill C-50 is the Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act, but don't be fooled by the bait and switch messaging. It's a bill that's already passed first reading in the House of Commons as part of the Liberal plan to replace Alberta's hydrocarbon economy with some kind of green fantasy economy.

00:00:00.000 And so, Justin Trudeau's just transition begins.
00:00:05.440 The Liberal government is not calling it that, of course.
00:00:09.560 When Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson introduced Bill C-50,
00:00:13.680 he called it the Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act.
00:00:16.780 But don't be fooled by the bait-and-switch messaging.
00:00:19.980 The legislation Minister Wilkinson announced today
00:00:22.600 that's already passed first reading in the House of Commons
00:00:25.780 as part of the Liberal plan to replace Alberta's hydrocarbon economy
00:00:31.180 with some kind of green fantasy economy.
00:00:34.600 A year ago, they called it the Just Transition.
00:00:37.420 Oddly enough, a phrase coined some time before by Alberta's own NDP.
00:00:42.500 It became notorious when ministerial briefing notes came to light
00:00:46.120 in which some decidedly unjust outcomes were conceded.
00:00:50.200 Will workers need to focus on re-skilling or up-skilling
00:00:55.220 to adapt to a new labour market following the transition
00:00:58.620 to a low-carbon economy, said the memo.
00:01:01.680 Key messages on Just Transition.
00:01:04.380 It answered its own question.
00:01:06.140 Some green jobs will not require workers with green skills
00:01:10.580 to perform their jobs.
00:01:12.340 That is, janitors or drivers working for a solar energy company.
00:01:17.160 There you go. Janitors and truckers.
00:01:20.240 Energy workers can earn six-figure salaries.
00:01:23.400 Janitors, not so much.
00:01:25.660 No surprise that Ottawa decided to rebrand that.
00:01:30.260 But this is the package.
00:01:33.300 Or at least, it's part of it.
00:01:35.720 According to Natural Resources Canada,
00:01:38.020 the minister had this morning with his legislation,
00:01:40.660 Bill C-50, advanced just one of the ten key action areas
00:01:45.980 outlined in the government's Inter-Sustainable Jobs Plan,
00:01:49.840 announced earlier this year.
00:01:51.060 There's lots of big names.
00:01:52.440 This bill provides for an advisory body,
00:01:54.580 five-years plan, sustainable jobs secretariat,
00:01:57.180 all that sort of thing.
00:01:59.380 There are nine more key action areas to go.
00:02:04.260 Point to note.
00:02:05.180 The legislation is national in scope.
00:02:08.960 But Alberta and Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland, by the way,
00:02:12.480 being oil and gas-producing provinces,
00:02:15.360 will bear the brunt.
00:02:17.140 Not too many liberal seats to lose out west are not so hard.
00:02:21.680 The ministerial release also adds to the tissue of lies
00:02:25.220 emanating from Ottawa this week with these two chestnuts.
00:02:28.840 Chestnut 1.
00:02:29.600 Canada is extremely well-positioned to take advantage
00:02:33.420 of the economic opportunities presented by the global race to net zero.
00:02:38.420 Folks, there is no global race to net zero.
00:02:41.000 This is a Justin Trudeau fascination, pure and simple.
00:02:44.180 In China and India, they're building more coal-fired,
00:02:46.740 generating plants in a year than we've had in the history of Canada.
00:02:50.920 Chestnut 2.
00:02:52.300 The liberals claim they've been working on making Canada
00:02:54.880 the clean energy and technology supplier of choice in a net zero world.
00:03:00.520 Sure.
00:03:01.480 Try and buy a solar panel that's made in Canada.
00:03:05.400 There's not much to choose from.
00:03:07.820 Ditto wind power generators.
00:03:10.820 Look, in her victory speech,
00:03:13.100 Premier Danielle Smith offered her government's broad support
00:03:15.960 to the federal government's emission reduction goals.
00:03:19.640 But, she says no to the latest Trudeau fatuity of capping emissions
00:03:26.440 or achieving a net zero electrical grid in Alberta by 2035.
00:03:30.960 In her warning to Ottawa, she said,
00:03:32.920 As Premier, I cannot allow these contemplated federal policies
00:03:36.780 to be inflicted upon Albertans.
00:03:39.060 I simply can't and I won't.
00:03:43.140 Amen and amen.
00:03:44.360 It was well said.
00:03:45.940 Now, may it be well done.
00:03:48.960 She has the Sovereignty Act.
00:03:50.960 I believe she is ready to use it.
00:03:52.660 For the Western Standard, I'm Nigel Hannaford.
00:03:58.140 Canadian Shooting Sports Association.
00:04:00.120 Without the CSSA, our gun rights would have been taken long, long ago.
00:04:04.500 These guys are on the front lines,
00:04:06.440 helping to draft smart and intelligent firearms regulations
00:04:10.420 and legislation in Canada.
00:04:12.380 And more importantly, educating the public
00:04:14.420 about how we keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people.
00:04:17.500 To become a member, it's absolutely worth every penny.
