Transcript

00:00:00.000 This morning I had a conversation with Harsha Wally about what she had said and she claimed
00:00:12.000 that she'd been misquoted and it was a right-wing newspaper said that. I accepted whether it's an
00:00:16.680 excuse or not, I accepted what she had to say. We had a conversation about it and I explained to
00:00:20.240 her that not all the churches, not all the denominations were involved in residential
00:00:24.080 school. So when she says burn them all down, that means the Pentecostal Church, that means the
00:00:28.200 Salvation Army Church was doing amazing work in Canada and had nothing to do with residential
00:00:32.340 school. So we had to talk about how this was actually going to affect the relations between
00:00:36.540 Indigenous people and Canadians and how as Indigenous people we don't recommend people
00:00:40.480 to destroy places of worship. And so she said she thanked me for that teaching and then that was it.
00:00:45.840 She claimed she was misquoted?
00:00:48.040 Yeah, she claimed, Harsha Wally claimed to me she was misquoted and that it was taken out of context.
00:00:53.500 Okay, because in terms of the misquote, it was a truth.
00:00:57.220 Yes, I know. Yes, I know. We, I basically, like I said, I've accepted what she has to offer. I'm like, okay,
00:01:03.040 you know, okay, well, we'll take that face value, whatever, right? But she says that she was,
00:01:07.240 it was taken out of context. So I'll, okay, I'll just accept her apology wherever she's at with it.
00:01:14.440 But you would obviously not condone.
00:01:17.360 No, no, no, we don't, and I said that to her, I said we do not, and actually I said to her,
00:01:21.540 as a Native way, we do not condone destruction of worship places. As Indigenous people, we do not spread
00:01:27.080 hate. How we got here was a result of hate. Someone hated us Indigenous people and felt the need to
00:01:32.660 destroy us and our culture. And so 150 years later, we're still at this place where we're having
00:01:37.360 religious wars with each other. Well, we hate you because you hate this, you hate that. And so
00:01:41.560 people are burning down people's places of worship as a result of this hate. And I explained to
00:01:47.860 Harshawali how her behavior is keeping that spirit of hate going. And as I explained earlier, I said
00:01:53.540 to her, if you keep this up, this is going to cause a very evil spirit to come to life and spread
00:01:57.820 across this country and destroy it.
00:01:59.360 Yeah. So it sounds like you, I understand you're accepting her explanation, actually.
00:02:03.860 I accept, yes, I accept.
00:02:04.980 But words matter to you.
00:02:06.360 Yes. That's why I very strongly said to her what I said. And I said, okay, I'll forgive you for what
00:02:12.720 you've said. And I, um, okay, whatever, like, you know, whatever your excuse is, whatever. But I'm
00:02:17.540 going to explain to you why what you said is so damaging and dangerous in this country,
00:02:22.140 especially a person who's a leader of a human rights organization.
