Calgary's Green Line has been a long-time project that has been in the works for the City of Calgary for years, but now Mayor Brian Bowman is calling for a new alignment that doesn't run through the city centre.
00:00:00.000The UCP's latest announcement on the Green Line is outrageous.
00:00:05.320I'm just so exhausted from living under a government that prefers playing petty politics to improving people's lives.
00:00:12.800I didn't say that. That's a note I received today from a Calgarian, a woman, a mother, a working person living in Calgary suburbs who is just tired of what this province is doing.
00:00:25.100Minister Dreschen's proposed alignment to take a train that ends at the arena or ends at City Hall to put you on already over-packed trains on the red and blue lines to get to work, or one that doesn't go downtown at all, or an elevated line through downtown.
00:00:40.480Guess what? We have studied all of these things. None of them work.
00:00:45.900The Green Line has been studied to death. There have been review after review after review after review, many of which were commissioned by the UCP government.
00:00:59.040Those reviews told us this is the right alignment, this is the right investment, this is what creates jobs, this is what boosts the economy, this is what helps citizens.
00:01:08.420On August 1st, we were told that the government is 100% behind the Green Line as it currently stood then.
00:01:18.740Minister Dreschen has basically fired 1,000 people and said we don't care about 20,000 jobs.
00:01:23.860We don't care about the economic impact.
00:01:26.100We don't care that we're giving $1.5 billion back to the federal government because we don't want them to invest in Alberta.
00:01:33.480What we need now more than ever is smart, rational, pragmatic government, government that wants to win rather than to fight, government that wants to get things done for Calgarians rather than pick fights with city council and with me.
00:01:46.120So you do have that alternative. That's Alberta's New Democrats.
