Western Standard - Politicians declare trade wars. Ordinary Canadians pay the price.

00:00:00.000 Ford actually told the Associated Press

00:00:02.480 the Canadians understand that they're going to have to sacrifice.

00:00:05.900 Think about that sentence.

00:00:08.320 They're going to have to sacrifice.

00:00:10.620 Who's they?

00:00:11.560 Doug Ford? Mark Carney?

00:00:13.340 The people standing behind the podiums?

00:00:15.520 No.

00:00:16.540 A guy working at an auto plant in Windsor. 0.62

00:00:19.520 A woman running a small manufacturing kitchener.

00:00:22.520 A trucking company.

00:00:23.460 A farmer.

00:00:24.160 A steel worker.

00:00:25.240 A parts supplier.

00:00:26.080 A family whose grocery bill goes up

00:00:28.140 because somebody in Ottawa decided tariffs

00:00:30.080 to demonstrate a national resolve.

00:00:32.540 Those are the people who sacrifice.

00:00:35.220 Politicians declare economic wars.

00:00:37.940 Ordinary people fight them.

00:00:39.880 And I am getting extremely tired of wealthy politicians

00:00:42.840 talking about the sacrifices we need to make

00:00:45.160 so those politicians can demonstrate how tough they are.

00:00:48.480 Doug Ford wants an economic war?

00:00:50.440 Okay, what's the victory condition?

00:00:52.600 I asked this about Mark Carney,

00:00:54.300 and I'll ask it again about Doug Ford.

00:00:56.240 What does winning look like?

00:00:57.240 Donald Trump capitulates? The United States removes every tariff?

00:01:01.320 Americans decide they're more afraid of losing Canadian electricity than Canadians are of losing access to the U.S. market?

00:01:08.900 What's the theory? Because we'll hurt them too is not a strategy. It's an emotion.
