00:04:35.780 well I know I am court so Calgary I have another question for you are you ready for competent

00:04:57.140 leadership from a leader you can trust you know not one it is the honor of my

00:05:19.640 life to be running shoulder to shoulder with this incredible woman that we're

00:05:24.380 about to introduce mind to court she's a mom to two kids and one big dog she's a 1.00

00:05:32.500 champion for workers she's a fighter she got a pipeline built to tidewater for 1.00

00:05:39.500 crying out loud and she enabled a four billion dollar renewable sector here in 0.66

00:05:53.420 Alberto she's a leader she is competent she's incredible as the leader of the

00:06:10.940 official opposition and she loves this province she is so many things to so many people but if

00:06:28.620 you were to ask her she's just gonna say just call me Rachel friends please put your hands

00:06:36.740 together for the next premier of Alberta, Rachel Mowgli!

00:07:06.740 Let's change that point of view

00:07:11.640 There's a sea change coming with that orange dawn

00:07:16.900 The color's so much brighter when it shines on everyone

00:07:22.580 Stand together, stand together

00:07:27.820 Rise up and shine for the better

00:07:31.980 Stand together, stand together

00:07:36.580 Rise up and shine

00:07:39.600 Mother baby

00:07:44.980 If your mouth is torn and free 0.95

00:07:55.180 Don't stand alone

00:07:56.420 Your compass spins you straight

00:07:59.740 Don't stand alone

00:08:00.840 You'll be cold

00:08:03.080 my what an amazing crowd hello to all of you and it's so good to see you all

00:08:12.680 what a bright beautiful day hello Calgary hello Albert

00:08:20.520 Alberta. It is so great to see so many friendly faces all around. You know, looking around

00:08:33.340 this room today, I have never felt more optimistic for the future of Alberta.

00:08:50.040 My friends, it is time for an election campaign, and for the record, and just to get this out

00:08:57.700 of the way, my name is Rachel Notley, and I am running to be your Premier.

00:09:20.040 I am running to be premier because I believe in Alberta, and I believe in Albertans.

00:09:33.280 In this province, we work hard, we act with honesty, and we always, always look out for

00:09:41.360 one another.

00:09:48.920 And I'm asking Albertans, I'm asking them to choose, to choose a better future for this

00:09:54.180 great province that we all love, because Alberta, you deserve better.

00:10:10.340 After four very hard years, dealing with a healthcare crisis, an affordability crisis

00:10:17.700 and a UCP government constantly in crisis,

00:10:21.260 this campaign is actually about giving families hope.

00:10:25.420 Hope in a time where it's been so much harder to find.

00:10:30.360 It is time for that hope.

00:10:32.280 It is time for stability.

00:10:34.460 It is time for common sense.

00:10:36.920 And yes, it is also time for trusted leadership.

00:10:47.700 You know, even if you don't always agree with me on everything, the fact is, you know me.

00:10:59.620 And what you know is this, that I say what I mean, and I mean what I say.

00:11:06.020 you know you know that i will work every day to protect your health care to protect your education

00:11:19.700 your job and your future and you also know danielle smith and you know that she will tell

00:11:26.840 you what she thinks you want to hear and then she will go ahead and she will do whatever she wants

00:11:33.240 privatize your health care gamble with your pensions pander to extremists

00:11:39.800 fact is it is just time for a better government one that is focused on what

00:11:46.140 matters to you focused on our health care on our kids education on creating

00:12:00.080 more jobs in a more affordable Alberta my friends I am running to be premier so

00:12:06.240 that we can deliver that better future to all our burdens and you know what for

00:12:19.740 me for me that future starts with better health care you know it's so

00:12:25.860 critically important i have two kids as many of you may know and they're young adults now but even

00:12:31.860 today i remember still with great intensity the anxiety that comes with rushing them around

00:12:39.460 looking for urgent emergency care i think a lot of folks in this room have had that experience

00:12:45.220 and i know that feeling of helplessness but the fact is today's parents are facing lineups

00:12:51.300 all over the place beginning in emergency rooms and when that's happening you have that fear that

00:12:57.380 your child is looking to you for comfort and the health care that they need doesn't end up being

00:13:03.540 there no parent and more importantly no child should ever be put in that situation and my

00:13:11.940 friends, I believe better health care means having hospitals that are open,

00:13:19.200 hospitals that are staffed, where patients get beds that are in rooms not

00:13:26.180 hallways. Hospitals that can actually conduct surgeries and deliver babies in

00:13:35.100 our communities not 300 kilometers down the road it means healthcare that is

00:13:49.800 there for the public for Albertans not for shareholders and places places here

00:14:03.420 like calgary you know it means getting your blood work done on time not having to wait while we

00:14:09.740 continue with failed privatization experiments it means it means that when you dial 911 the ambulance

00:14:19.180 is on the way now not well after the emergency is over and most of all it means having a family

00:14:27.900 doctor close to home. And we know that having access to that

00:14:41.020 family doctor is the first fundamental step to protecting our

00:14:45.100 healthcare. And under our party's family health

00:14:47.660 teams, we will bring doctors back to Alberta.

00:14:51.660 We will take the pressure off of our acute care.

00:14:59.040 We'll reduce the number of people waiting in pain and we will do more surgery sooner.

00:15:04.580 Our commitment to you through family health teams is to connect you with healthcare professionals all across the province

00:15:12.580 so that one million more Albertans have access to a family doctor.

00:15:21.660 And most of all, my friends, most of all, you can count on me to make sure that Albertans

00:15:32.580 are getting that access to the healthcare they need, regardless of what is in their

00:15:38.840 bank account.

00:15:41.040 And let me say this to you very, very, very clearly.

00:15:49.060 I have never, ever, ever wavered on that fundamental commitment, and I never, ever will.

00:16:04.940 Now, you know, my opponent in this race, Danielle Smith, she kind of wears her flip-flops like they're going out of style.

00:16:11.340 And on health care, we all know that she has a very different idea of what the doctor-patient relationship should look like.

00:16:19.580 One that she actually often refers to as the doctor-payment relationship.

00:16:24.120 Her words, not mine. 1.00

00:16:26.800 That's because Danielle Smith has actually put all her time and her effort in her career into tearing down public health care. 1.00

00:16:35.160 She's gone on the radio to promote bogus cures and fake treatments for serious illnesses. 0.91

00:16:40.800 She's spoken publicly about how getting cancer is somehow the cancer patient's fault and that somehow that person should have to fundraise for it.

00:16:50.860 She's written policy papers calling for new fees for surgeries, co-pays for hospital stays and using your debit card instead of your health care card.

00:17:01.100 I say this to Danielle Smith, you don't get to spend years and years trying to tear down the public health care that people rely on and then expect them to forget overnight.

00:17:14.680 Your record matters.

00:17:16.240 the things that your record matters you know and the things that you have repeatedly said

00:17:31.520 written advocated for and proposed they matter and you know what you can sign as many

00:17:37.920 cardboard cutouts as you want but albertans are not fooled they just aren't

00:17:46.240 So my friends, if I am your premier, we will stop these attacks on our public health care

00:17:59.460 and instead we will get to work on fixing it.

00:18:03.040 We won't privatize it, we'll strengthen it.

00:18:05.680 We won't fight with doctors, we'll recruit doctors.

00:18:08.560 We won't cut diabetes pumps, we'll fund them.

00:18:13.360 We won't blame Albertans with cancer or heart conditions.

00:18:16.960 We'll make sure they get treatment and care.

00:18:20.920 We won't make seniors pay more for medical exams.

00:18:27.860 We'll cover more of their medications and, yes, their vaccinations,

00:18:32.040 because we believe in science and evidence, not conspiracies.

00:18:35.960 And, my friends, we will not make women pay for reproductive health care.

00:18:41.660 will cover the cost of contraception for free.

00:18:48.020 We will fix the health care crisis of today

00:18:52.320 by investing in frontline workers and frontline services,

00:18:56.900 and that also means undertaking

00:18:59.160 the largest health care recruitment and retention campaign ever seen

00:19:05.500 because we support public health care.

00:19:11.660 Public health care is one of the greatest gifts, greatest gifts, my friends, that we've

00:19:17.980 ever given to each other as Albertans, and it is the foundation of our community and

00:19:23.500 we will protect it.

00:19:25.200 And we will do this by working directly with those on the front lines of our hospitals,

00:19:30.020 our clinics and our ambulances, not tearing up their contracts or threatening their jobs.

00:19:35.180 lead a government that takes phone calls from nurses not extremists

00:19:47.980 one that builds the hospitals we need in places like red deer and south edmonton and puts family

00:19:53.980 health clinics and communities all across this province and i will do this work with determination

00:20:01.260 and with conviction and i will work every day to give you better health care because that

00:20:08.620 is what you deserve who's with me

00:20:27.580 so a better future you know it also means better schools

00:20:31.260 it means building new schools in growing neighborhoods schools with more teachers and

00:20:37.100 more educational assistance so our kids have smaller class sizes and more one-on-one attention

00:20:44.060 our students our students will have a modern curriculum that helps them understand the world

00:20:49.660 around them and actually prepares them to lead it because my friend Albertans

00:21:04.180 they're actually asking for reinforcements in the classroom not the

00:21:09.340 war room. My friends, a better future also means better jobs in a more affordable Alberta.

00:21:23.260 With an NDP government, Albertans will see real action to grow and diversify our economy

00:21:29.800 because it is not, as the UCP likes to claim, a long-term luxury, but rather diversification

00:21:37.180 is an absolute necessity.

00:21:47.620 We won't pit the environment against the economy, that doesn't get us anywhere.

00:21:52.460 Instead we'll diversify within oil and gas, with more petrochemical refining and more

00:21:58.500 ways to use bitumen, allowing us to make more energy products right here at home in Alberta

00:22:04.680 and get more value for our resources right here at home in alberta and we will

00:22:14.200 and we will do that while cutting the emissions that threaten

00:22:17.960 our planet and we will be creating jobs while we're at it

00:22:27.080 because our party friends and we all know this our party supports energy workers and supports our

00:22:33.800 proud legacy of developing energy in this province albertans

00:22:41.640 okay oh there i'm back okay thank you our party has a plan it has a plan to attract

00:22:48.840 20 billion dollars in new private sector investment and to create more than 47 000

00:22:55.480 good-paying sustainable industrial jobs all across this province

00:23:04.200 jobs that pay the mortgage and support families jobs that are in safe workplaces with fair

00:23:10.840 benefits and better wages so workers can come home and pay their bills and speaking of those bills

00:23:17.480 you know i know a lot of families today are sitting around the dinner table and wondering

00:23:23.000 they are wondering when will things get a bit easier that's because this ucp government has

00:23:29.160 actually contrary to what they like to claim spent the last four years making life more expensive

00:23:36.120 they took the caps off of what you pay for your car insurance they've taken the caps off of tuition

00:23:43.320 off of electricity prices and then get this by the ucp's own logic they have actually raised

00:23:51.320 taxes and fees 145 times over the last four years. My friends, my friends, that is almost

00:24:02.760 as many times as Danielle Smith has changed her position in the last three months.

00:24:07.760 Look, here's what you can count on from us. 0.76

00:24:17.340 We will not raise your income taxes.

00:24:21.100 We will.

00:24:23.480 We will lower the costs that make life more expensive for you and your family.

00:24:28.820 We'll re-index and raise benefits for families, for seniors and for Albertans with disabilities.

00:24:34.140 We will freeze car insurance, putting an end to the UCP's pandering to big insurance.

00:24:40.140 We'll restore rental supplements and house another 40,000 Albertans who can't afford

00:24:45.820 their own.

00:24:51.540 We'll stop charging people just to enjoy a hike in Kananaskis country and by the way,

00:24:59.540 you go on that hike you'll be doing that near mountains that have absolutely no coal mining

00:25:07.540 anywhere near them we will freeze university tuition so that a good quality education is

00:25:21.540 within reach of all albertans keeping our future leaders right here in alberta and you know while 1.00

00:25:28.500 While Danielle Smith talks about rolling the dice and gambling away your retirement security,

00:25:34.480 we will legislatively protect your CPP.

00:25:39.000 You can count on it.

00:25:52.960 We will make Alberta more affordable for everyone because that is what New Democrats do.

00:25:59.940 Now I believe Albertans deserve strong and stable leadership and I know that this work

00:26:06.840 begins with earning the trust and the support of those very same Albertans.

00:26:12.700 Every day more and more people come up to me and they say, Rachel you know I've voted

00:26:16.900 conservative for most of my life but a little worried about this Daniel Smith person.

00:26:21.780 know I don't think she represents me and I don't think her values are my values so

00:26:25.680 this time they say I'm going to support you I'm going to be voting in DP and I

00:26:30.460 want to say I want to say I'm so so grateful when I hear that and so to all

00:26:42.920 the same Albertans who are struggling with that and who feel the same way I

00:26:47.060 say this follow our campaign give us the opportunity to earn your trust look at the ideas

00:26:55.540 that we're bringing forward and look at the albertans who've stepped up and who've stepped

00:26:59.780 forward to run for us i am running shoulder to shoulder or in some cases shoulder to elbow but

00:27:06.420 you know whatever uh with an incredible group of candidates from a diverse set of backgrounds

00:27:13.300 each and every one of them will be focused on what matters to you so we can build a better

00:27:18.660 province together we are nurses we are doctors we are small business owners and business

00:27:24.420 executives financial experts and energy pioneers heck we have the guy who helped develop calgary's

00:27:30.580 economic strategy. A good guide I have on your side, I'd say.

00:27:45.460 We are teachers, we are social workers, lawyers and farmers, parents and community leaders,

00:27:51.980 friends and neighbors. This team reflects the best of Alberta. Diverse, educated, experienced

00:27:59.480 and ready to go to work for you.

00:28:13.860 So my friends, my friends, I commit

00:28:16.280 that if you place your trust in us,

00:28:19.060 we will work tirelessly to provide the calm,

00:28:22.620 the steady, the capable, the responsible government

00:28:25.980 you know Alberta needs right now.

00:28:29.180 We will listen and we will act.

00:28:31.420 We won't make change for change's sake.

00:28:33.960 We will keep the good ideas from the last four years,

00:28:37.260 but we will get rid of the chaos and the unpredictability.

00:28:40.480 And when we say something in the morning,

00:28:43.560 we'll still mean it at night, that night.

00:28:59.180 we will we will be there for you and for your loved ones in your time of greatest need we will

00:29:17.300 work on health care cost of living and jobs with focus and with determination alberta you have a

00:29:23.780 decision to make in 28 days, and you know, it's kind of a biggie. I want to thank Albertans for

00:29:30.160 giving us this opportunity to show you who we are, to show you that we are focused on what matters

00:29:36.460 to you. Let's create good paying jobs and a bright economic future. Let's deliver better education,

00:29:43.540 better health care, and more jobs in a more affordable Alberta. Let's stand together and

00:29:49.360 build a better future once again my name is Rachel Notley and I am running to be

00:29:54.640 your premier
