In this episode, I sit down with Alberta s premier, Alison Redford, to talk about her vision for the future of the energy sector. We talk about the Canadian Energy Centre's new role as the "War Room" and how she plans to keep the fight for Alberta's energy sector going in the wake of Bill C-59.
00:00:09.440That's what we saw with our net zero campaign to make the world, and Ottawa in particular, understand just how devastating it would be for us to try to reach a net zero target by 2035.
00:00:19.740And it looks like it's had some impact.
00:00:21.300At least the Canadian Electricity Advisory Committee agrees with us.
00:00:24.340So when we have those big initiatives that we have to do, it should be led out of the Premier's office.
00:00:31.760There's some great work that's been done by the Canadian Energy Centre from a research point of view, identifying important studies that need to have more profile,
00:00:40.120making sure that we get our positive message out about the level of production that we're doing, our mission story.
00:00:45.660And so there's three staff that have moved over into intergovernmental affairs to be able to continue that work.
00:00:51.940We want to be able to maintain that presence.
00:00:54.200But I think having the moniker War Room is not what they should be doing.
00:01:00.420They really should be giving good, credible research and data on the state of our industry, the state of our emissions reduction,
00:01:07.580and they should leave the fight in demean.
00:01:09.460And I'm quite happy to keep that fight going, especially now that the federal government with Bill C-59 is trying to make it illegal for us to celebrate and talk about our industry.
00:01:19.900I don't even know if the Canadian Energy Centre would be allowed to talk about some of these things,
00:01:24.880but fortunately the Alberta government has an exemption.
00:01:27.180So I'm going to use that exemption and I'm going to be making sure that at every opportunity I celebrate the things that are going well in our industry.
00:01:33.360I'm going to be making sure that that is interesting.
