00:00:00.000 Good evening. Welcome to The Pipeline. I'm Corey Morgan. This is the Western Standards
00:00:16.900 weekly panel show where we break down the top issues of the day, discuss them, analyze them.
00:00:23.240 We usually have a couple of our top writers or columnists on to help navigate these things.
00:00:30.140 And today we've got a lot of really complicated and difficult stuff to navigate.
00:00:35.360 So I'm going to start, though. I'll get our, you know, speaking to our sponsor first out of the way.
00:00:40.420 And that's the Canadian Shooting Sports Association.
00:00:43.180 They are a fantastic sponsor, guys.
00:00:45.120 And this is how we can keep having these shows, keep breaking into these issues you're not going to see on the mainstream media
00:00:49.720 is because of sponsors and, of course, members like yourself.
00:00:52.780 So I'm sure you've subscribed, right?
00:00:54.560 Well, the Canadian Shooting Sports Association,
00:00:55.940 if you own firearms, you want to own firearms,
00:00:58.880 you have to be a member of these guys.
00:01:00.400 They stand up for your rights.
00:01:01.720 And there's all sorts of resources, too.
00:01:03.280 I mean, directions to firearms shows, shooting sports events,
00:01:06.360 things like that.
00:01:07.980 Check them out.
00:01:08.700 I mean, it's standing up for you because you've got a government
00:01:10.200 that wants to take away your rights.
00:01:11.960 And if you don't stand up for them, you're going to lose them.
00:01:14.360 This is Canadian Shooting Sports Association, CSSA-CILA.org, or just Google them, Canadian Shooting Rights, Canadian Shooting Sports Association, and take out a membership, guys.
00:01:26.520 All right, let's get to it. I'm joined today by our opinion editor, Nigel Hannaford.
00:01:31.980 Hello again, Corey.
00:01:33.000 Hey, good to see you back in studio.
00:01:35.720 Yeah, just love it.
00:01:38.020 Our news editor, Dave Naylor, who's been running hard this week.
00:01:42.200 It's been a crazy few days, Corey.
00:01:43.620 It has. So, I mean, I'll get right to it. It's going to dominate this show because it's just dominated the whole week. Israel is at war. You know, Hamas has pulled off one of the most horrific terrorist attacks against Israel. And now, of course, the retaliation is going to take some time. I guess just for some folks, maybe if they turned off the TVs all Thanksgiving and so on. Give us a rundown. What's going on, Dave?
00:02:09.980 Yeah, it was really scenes of savagery, the likes we've rarely seen.
00:02:15.520 It was a surprise attack. 0.85
00:02:18.020 Somehow the Hamas managed to catch the Israelis asleep at the wheel and defeat their vaunted intelligence. 0.57
00:02:26.220 Launched an attack Saturday morning from the Gaza Strip in southern Israel, 0.54
00:02:30.760 in which hundreds and hundreds of Hamas terrorists poured into southern Israel.
00:02:36.180 They attacked a music festival and slaughtered 260 young people there.
00:02:42.060 They went into kibbutzs and slaughtered families in their beds.
00:02:47.280 Prime Minister's office today confirmed that up to 40 babies had been decapitated.
00:02:54.160 You can imagine that, Corey.
00:02:56.620 In these attacks, they were done by paragliding, commandos of all things,
00:03:03.160 There's troops pouring across the border after the border was unsealed.
00:03:09.100 And 1,200 Israelis were killed in that terrorist attack Saturday morning.
00:03:15.580 And hundreds of terrorists also died.
00:03:19.480 Of course, the Israeli response is being swift.
00:03:22.940 They are launching a, they have launched a massive aerial attack on Hamas and the Gaza Strip,
00:03:29.260 which is, if you don't know much about it, it's one of the most densest populated cities or countries in the world.
00:03:35.980 And it looks like they're basically going to reduce it to rubble.
00:03:41.080 The defense official said they're going to create a tent city for the entire country, not leave any single building standing.
00:03:48.720 And they've got 300,000 troops amassed on the border for a ground invasion.
00:03:54.580 And it's been interesting to see all the flights filled with young Israeli men flying back to Israel to rejoin the army and join up.
00:04:06.400 So the ground war is imminent.
00:04:09.760 The air war continues to pound.
00:04:12.540 And then, of course, we've got the big question, many, many big questions, including what's going to happen with Hezbollah on northern Israel and in Lebanon.
00:04:22.440 there's already been some tit-for-tat firing over there so uh unbelievable carnage and
00:04:30.440 unfortunately i think more carnage is yet to come well that's it i mean it's hard to understand the
00:04:37.720 motivations of this we're outside of it you know thankfully the world we're in it just doesn't
00:04:43.720 occur to us to support something as horrific as this but what nigel i know it's a big broad
00:04:51.560 question, but I mean, they knew what they must be invoking. What did Hamas think they were going to 0.88
00:04:57.400 accomplish out of this? Okay, well, I'm going to try and give the Hamas point of view, but let me
00:05:02.780 say right off the front, I have no use for this organization whatsoever. Oh, I understand. We're just 0.95
00:05:07.800 trying to figure out. I'm trying to give it, I'm trying to be fair to, you know, why it is that they
00:05:12.740 do what they do. But, you know, I have just been personally deeply saddened by, as the news comes
00:05:22.460 out, that people have been burned to death in their cars. There's pictures on the internet right
00:05:29.700 now. As the, you know, some poor teenage kid is taken across the border and to be held as a hostage
00:05:37.160 and, you know, you can imagine all the things that, all the things that, and then 40 dead
00:05:43.400 babies, some of them decapitated, all of them dead, and people in Canada are, you know,
00:05:52.580 like this person from CUPE, like in Ontario, saying, oh, what was his quote exactly?
00:06:01.920 that Palestine is rising, long live the resistance.
00:06:06.000 Yeah, 40 dead babies, some of them decapitated, 0.91
00:06:08.740 long live Palestine, long live the resistance. 0.96
00:06:11.180 Screw them. 1.00
00:06:11.980 I have no use for anybody who is.
00:06:14.500 The ironic thing, Nigel, is the guy who did it, 0.99
00:06:17.220 Fred Hahn, is openly gay. 0.94
00:06:21.080 So good luck to him trying to deal with Hamas. 0.97
00:06:24.820 They deal with gays much harser. 1.00
00:06:28.420 Much harser than them. 1.00
00:06:29.760 Straight off the top of the minaret.
00:06:31.060 Yeah, no questions asked.
00:06:33.180 So now, to come back to, now thank you for letting me have my rant.
00:06:37.700 Okay?
00:06:38.420 We've got room to rant a bit on this one.
00:06:40.540 So here's the thing that I think is going on.
00:06:44.060 During the Trump administration, great efforts were made with some success to bring peace
00:06:50.740 to the Middle East.
00:06:53.420 The Palestinians would say it's all very well for Israel and Saudi Arabia and Egypt
00:06:59.520 to work things out
00:07:01.500 between themselves
00:07:02.500 what about us?
00:07:05.020 We're stuck here on this little coastal strip
00:07:07.080 in a highly densely
00:07:08.160 populated part of the world
00:07:11.760 and in our opinion
00:07:13.540 I think they're wrong
00:07:14.980 but in their opinion
00:07:16.600 they have a historic claim
00:07:18.320 to that part of the world
00:07:20.040 so you guys are all
00:07:21.840 trying to work this out together
00:07:23.560 nobody is looking out for our interests
00:07:26.340 well we can disrupt your peace process
00:07:30.820 we can launch a futile attack 0.71
00:07:34.400 on Israel 0.78
00:07:35.600 which will force Israel to retaliate
00:07:38.600 in the strongest terms 0.96
00:07:40.240 a tent city would be
00:07:42.680 just in the circumstances 1.00
00:07:44.860 and we will
00:07:47.260 the peace process goes nowhere
00:07:50.040 we meanwhile remain
00:07:54.320 players on the stage
00:07:55.600 We've got our friends in Hesbollah who, if the Iranians give them permission, will help us. 1.00
00:08:03.080 Hamas has had its own difficulties with the Iranians, which I do not understand and cannot explain. 0.91
00:08:10.800 But apparently that has now been settled.
00:08:13.100 So I think this is just a horribly costly and barbaric attempt to remain a piece on the chessboard.
00:08:25.600 They seem to have gone out of their way to be as provocative as possible. This was planned. Like some of the worst atrocities we're seeing, they aren't being released by the IDF. They're being released by Hamas' own videos.
00:08:39.180 I mean, this was purposeful, showing that that young lady clearly been terribly treated, being forced into a vehicle to be further abused.
00:08:50.780 You know, the pictures of them entering houses in kibbutzes, peaceful little enclaves, and torching the places, even shooting their pets.
00:08:58.340 Like they are, you know, it's not like they're trying to surreptiously do an attack. 0.68
00:09:02.000 They want to make sure the world sees just how vicious and horrible they're being while they're at it.
00:09:09.180 they're trying to prompt a response. 1.00
00:09:12.360 And they certainly got it out of Israel,
00:09:13.740 but I think they're trying to get much more than that.
00:09:15.580 Yeah, I don't understand the end game here, as Nigel says. 0.99
00:09:19.040 I mean, what Israel is now doing had to be expected.
00:09:24.680 And, you know, if you operate with such barbarity 0.95
00:09:29.620 that you're severing the heads off babies,
00:09:32.260 then shouldn't you expect your country to be turned into a parking lot? 0.91
00:09:36.500 And that's what's going to happen.
00:09:38.380 And so I don't really see the end game here. 0.91
00:09:42.100 The Gaza, you know, Hamas runs Gaza. 0.96
00:09:45.900 They're in charge. 0.91
00:09:46.620 They're the government.
00:09:47.200 They're the elected power.
00:09:49.180 And I think, Corey, you've got a column coming out later on today that until the ordinary Gazans rise up and say, no, we don't want nothing to do with Hamas, then the situation is going to change.
00:09:58.940 But the bottom line is there's a lot of innocent people on both sides that have died and will die.
00:10:07.840 And for what good, I can't say.
00:10:10.740 Yeah.
00:10:11.280 So let's circle a bit back to not just the, you know, Fred, who is his name?
00:10:16.640 Fred Hahn.
00:10:18.100 So he's the head of QB Ontario, just for viewers who don't know.
00:10:21.720 I don't blame you for not knowing who this moron is, but that's who he is.
00:10:25.600 And other union ex-accounts, and we've had union affiliate, I mean, NDP members coming out.
00:10:33.740 But there's some sort of, and I'm going to say it, it's anti-Semitic basis on the far left in Canada and probably elsewhere.
00:10:42.480 And they just can't contain themselves.
00:10:44.400 I mean, they won't retract.
00:10:45.400 They won't back off.
00:10:46.760 In fact, they're doubling down.
00:10:48.840 It isn't just a case of being, because they always say, oh, we're allowed to be critical of Israel. 0.96
00:10:52.740 Yeah, that's fine. 0.96
00:10:53.340 But you're celebrating Hamas. 0.70
00:10:54.820 There's a big difference there.
00:10:55.880 While Rachel Notley, Alberta NDP leader, has condemned the attack, one of her MLA's, Calgary Klein MLA, Lizette Tejeda, I apologize if I got her last name wrong, in the past she has openly called Israel barbaric and committing genocide of the Palestinians.
00:11:16.240 We have a story on a Mount Royal University professor who wrote in Al Jazeera yesterday about how the Palestinian resistance and uprising.
00:11:25.940 We had a story on the Osgoode Law School, lawyers of the future, you know, praising the Palestinian resistance.
00:11:34.220 On a point of detail, that was a group of Muslim lawyers within the school that did that. 0.68
00:11:41.340 Yes, correct. 0.55
00:11:41.920 Yeah, academia across the world, basically, is coming under scrutiny for anti-Semitic posts and teachings and whatnot, so.
00:11:54.320 Our friend at Mount Royal University, his line, apparently, is, well, I don't seek to justify violence.
00:12:03.140 i seek to explain it and i think that's an incredibly tight small rope to try and to try
00:12:11.460 and walk because if you're saying well obviously anybody who had suffered this would do that
00:12:16.580 you've gone beyond explaining and already you're starting to justify and they're certainly
00:12:20.180 encouraging so i i mean i find his uh his uh his input on that highly suspect not the least
00:12:29.060 because when he controlled the Calgary Peace Prize,
00:12:33.020 he managed to get it awarded to a fellow who had...
00:12:38.900 Called for the death of all Jews.
00:12:42.180 So, you know, I don't know how these people draw their salary, frankly. 0.99
00:12:46.940 No.
00:12:48.080 But it's, you know, it's kind of disturbing to see in all major cities, 0.94
00:12:53.320 Palestinians, you know, openly celebrating the death of these hundreds of Israelis waving flags, 0.95
00:13:00.740 marching, you know, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver. You know, in Toronto, we had a massive counter
00:13:06.780 protest, you know, 300 pro-Palestinians, 15,000 pro-Israelis. So, at least that was good to see 1.00
00:13:14.180 in Toronto. So, I mean, what is, I gotta imagine, your average, I mean, organized labor, it's the
00:13:21.200 heads of organized labor who are putting up these odious remarks in support of terrorism. I'm going
00:13:26.640 to say it like that. They're supporting terrorists. I'm not going to sugarcoat this. Shouldn't these
00:13:30.900 members start speaking up, though? Like, that's enough. You guys don't, because I'm not seeing
00:13:34.280 that. I'm not seeing members saying, hey, they don't represent me. You know, this is supposed
00:13:38.400 to be a labor union. They're supposed to negotiate my workplace contract. They're supposed to
00:13:42.480 ensure, you know, that I have good working conditions. And here they are sidetracking
00:13:47.340 and supporting terrorists.
00:13:49.560 There's not a rush of people saying I'm going to withhold my dues.
00:13:53.900 I guess on a purely practical level, it's just a payroll deduction.
00:13:58.400 It's kind of hard to do.
00:13:59.980 If the payroll clerk says, well, I have my orders, I've got to do this,
00:14:04.720 it's a little difficult.
00:14:06.660 But you're right, there should be grants.
00:14:08.480 Well, I cannot honestly believe that every one of the 4,000,
00:14:14.960 I did have a number.
00:14:16.340 There was a considerable number of workers that this particular local was representing.
00:14:26.480 I can't believe that every one of those is just in lockstep and, you know, seeing the blood flow and the heads roll.
00:14:33.040 They would say, yeah, let's have more of this.
00:14:35.500 You tell them.
00:14:36.620 Yeah, there's been no immediate call for his removal from any union member.
00:14:41.140 He pulled the tooth down pretty quick.
00:14:42.200 Yeah, you know, and he even doubled down yesterday.
00:14:44.740 And they blamed trolls, you know, for causing all the hysteria, anti-Israeli trolls, sorry, pro-Israeli trolls.
00:14:55.040 You know, so it's, he's got himself in a world of trouble and he doesn't seem to want to apologize for celebrating the death of more than a thousand people.
00:15:03.900 And this is the thing, this is a very, very complex, and if you really want to get into the whole history of the Arab-Israeli conflict and go back over the decades and see where all this,
00:15:14.740 came from i don't know whether you would ever reach a conclusion
00:15:18.560 but there is a time and a place to to make your argument and when innocents have been brutally
00:15:28.940 murdered there's not the time to say way to go boys let's do some more that is i just have no
00:15:36.440 patience with that whatsoever i know that the counter argument to that would be well the
00:15:40.820 israelis do it all the time the thing is they don't do it all the time you know there's no
00:15:44.620 moral equivalents there is tired of people trying to play that that's exactly right
00:15:48.860 israel responds when the other side provokes and if they and by the way if children are killed in
00:15:57.220 gaza as undoubtedly they're the look of things as looks as if they will be
00:16:01.100 it's it's a different thing to drop a bomb on a building and the people inside are killed 0.96
00:16:08.560 than what it is to go into a bedroom and stick a knife into a child
00:16:15.340 and then cut its head off and leave the bed, the picture you showed me,
00:16:19.500 just bed covered in blood and toys around covered in blood,
00:16:23.920 and you know the child has just been murdered there.
00:16:25.580 That's very personal, and the intensity of the hatred in a young man,
00:16:31.500 because that's what it's going to be, the intensity of a hatred in a young man
00:16:35.360 to do that is just a horrifying thing to see, and to know that somebody put that in there,
00:16:44.400 somebody taught him to feel like that. What kind of people are they?
00:16:48.420 The cowardice of it. You know, I mean, I think people, nobody seen, likes to watch war and people
00:16:53.920 killing each other, but they can wrap their heads around military forces in a conflict going at
00:16:59.540 each other, combatants, even if it's still horrifying. But these guys, again, went out of
00:17:04.480 way for the low-hanging fruit. They went to a music festival for peace of all things. You knew
00:17:08.960 these were not going to be people who were going to fight back. And for people not familiar with
00:17:12.860 it, a kibbutz is like a little commune. I said on X the other day, the closest equivalent would be 0.71
00:17:16.760 almost like a Hutterite colony. You know, it's agriculturally based. It's small. They tend to
00:17:20.660 be pacifists, often hippies. And again, these are spots. They knew that. They're not going to deal
00:17:25.340 with somebody fighting back or shooting back. They're pacifists, and they slaughtered them.
00:17:30.900 And it's just astounding on this level.
00:17:34.780 So getting to the political response, though, you know, the country's condemnation, at least from civilized nations, has been pretty much universal, right?
00:17:42.420 It has.
00:17:44.080 Our own Prime Minister Trudeau did what I thought was a good job, and I think we can all agree that he did a good job on...
00:17:51.160 That's the exact quote.
00:17:52.040 Thomas terrorists aren't a resistance.
00:17:55.160 They're not freedom fighters.
00:17:56.280 They are terrorists.
00:17:57.620 And no one in Canada should be supporting them, much less celebrating them, Trudeau said.
00:18:02.960 Amen.
00:18:03.920 How often do we get to say that?
00:18:06.060 Something Trudeau did.
00:18:07.200 And he was at a community of Jewish people in Ottawa that night, as was opposition leader Pollyev.
00:18:15.180 Pollyev was even stronger than Trudeau.
00:18:17.480 So two good statements from our leaders. And yeah, universal condemnation, except for maybe North Korea and Russia, but every other sane leader in the world has condemned it wholeheartedly.
00:18:37.340 And I do want to give some credit where it's due, because, you know, I spend a lot of time beating on Prime Minister Trudeau, but he covered as a guy who's typically noncommittal, likes to be mealy mouth, likes to give word salad.
00:18:48.440 He was very clear as you quoted there, and he used the keyword terrorist, which our state broadcaster won't use.
00:18:54.680 He condemned the people supporting it, which a lot of people won't do.
00:18:57.760 Again, their silence is almost consent, which he could have dodged by just not even talking about that.
00:19:02.900 But no, he addressed it.
00:19:04.200 And he also said outright that Israel has the right to defend itself.
00:19:07.340 I was impressed. 0.75
00:19:10.340 Interestingly, over the last two days, King Charles has called Hamas terrorists, as has
00:19:17.580 Prince William and the Princess of Wales has called them terrorists.
00:19:22.100 BBC hasn't.
00:19:23.100 Combatants.
00:19:24.100 Combatants.
00:19:25.100 Militants.
00:19:26.100 That's another one of their favorites.
00:19:28.100 Fighters.
00:19:29.100 When you go in and slaughter children and families, you're a fighter.
00:19:32.100 You're a terrorist.
00:19:33.100 I mean, this is something I think developed nations have got to start pushing back on.
00:19:37.400 Again, it's this mealy-mouthed crap when it comes to these kinds of acts.
00:19:42.220 You've got to be able to call them what they are. 0.72
00:19:43.560 The New York Times changed their copy in one story from it was initially Hamas terrorists.
00:19:49.620 Editor went in and changed it to gunmen.
00:19:52.840 So did gunmen or was it militants that killed Mountbatten and his family?
00:19:58.700 No, I think it was IRA terrorists.
00:20:00.620 Yes. 0.65
00:20:00.960 I believe you may be right.
00:20:01.740 you know, and they certainly didn't hesitate to call it that then, and this is far more targeted
00:20:06.780 and horrific than I think. Yeah, but you know, good for Trudeau and good for Paulia for doing
00:20:11.660 the right thing. Yes, well, there's going to be a lot of, I guess, moral questioning and things
00:20:16.780 going on. I mean, the initial horror is fading off, and we're actually going to see more of the,
00:20:20.780 I think, the downscaling, unfortunately. Have you noticed that the strange double standard
00:20:25.420 in the liberal elite media, though, when it comes to something like this, they are at pains to be
00:20:30.620 be seen as even-handed and not trying to manipulate the language
00:20:35.280 so that they lead people in any direction.
00:20:38.000 So don't talk about terrorists, you talk about something else,
00:20:40.860 you talk about fighters or combatants.
00:20:43.620 But on the other end, if it's one of their subjects,
00:20:46.040 the most loaded headlines and twisted leads are justified all
00:20:51.540 the time just so that you, the reader, don't have any doubt
00:20:55.300 about what the truth is and the story is what we're telling you.
00:20:58.860 It's unsettling.
00:21:00.780 We have a funded tax fund at the Canadian Anti-Hate Network.
00:21:03.840 That's right.
00:21:04.680 They dedicate all their time going after the trucker's convoy
00:21:07.240 and the parental rights movements because apparently they're spreading hate.
00:21:10.920 They still to this point remain deathly silent on the pro-terrorist rallies held across the country.
00:21:15.840 Five days without a peep.
00:21:17.820 If they can't call that hate, they don't deserve to exist as a group.
00:21:21.960 They certainly don't deserve the taxpayer's money.
00:21:24.000 No, and they're getting that and they're considered a charity.
00:21:26.840 So I think the next thing, Corey, is the ground invasion.
00:21:31.760 And you're seeing the military build up, not only from Israel, but from countries around the world.
00:21:38.520 The United States has now dispatched a second aircraft carrier to the coastline.
00:21:45.820 Great Britain is considering sending the newest carrier in the world, Queen Elizabeth II.
00:21:52.320 And we're thinking of sending that air carrier and support group to the Mediterranean.
00:21:59.140 So I don't know if it's going to die down.
00:22:02.880 I think there may be a bit of a lull. 0.81
00:22:04.700 And then when the actual invasion starts of Gaza, I think all hell is going to break loose again.
00:22:09.680 Because that's when you're going to see the ugly street fighting, almost hand-to-hand combat.
00:22:16.220 There was a report of today 30 Gazan children killed at a school.
00:22:22.320 I have no idea why they would be going to a school today.
00:22:25.080 I don't know if that's propaganda, but there were UN workers killed, a dozen UN workers.
00:22:31.100 There were half a dozen Red Cross workers killed.
00:22:34.240 And this is before the invasion even starts.
00:22:36.680 When you've got 300,000 troops moving in the narrow streets of Gaza, that will become literally hell on earth.
00:22:43.860 And with all the drone technology and other stuff that we've got available today, we are going to get a front row seat.
00:22:52.320 And it's going to be horrific.
00:22:53.940 Yeah, just to clarify, so actually what they've done is they've called up 300,000 reservists,
00:22:58.180 and they have a standing force of the IDF over 150,000.
00:23:01.120 So those are full-time soldiers, 150,000.
00:23:04.120 The reservists, as you said, they're flying out from all over the world.
00:23:06.340 When I used to own my pub, I had a young lady of Israeli origin who was working with us,
00:23:10.560 the most soft-spoken gentleman, and she showed us some of her Facebook pictures of her when she was in Israel
00:23:14.620 with her rifle and such, with her training, putting in her service.
00:23:18.560 I don't know if she's planning to fly over as the others, but that there is a large force,
00:23:23.040 but they're not full-time soldiers as well. They've been trained, but yeah, that could be
00:23:28.640 terribly dangerous. Well, it's going to be, of course, by nature, but you know, this is...
00:23:33.200 You don't think Hamas is setting booby traps on every street in Gaza at this very moment?
00:23:39.680 Of course they are. Of course they are, yeah. So trying to speculate, Nigel,
00:23:43.920 the show of force, I guess, coming from the United States and the UK, you know,
00:23:47.680 with sending military naval fleets to the area.
00:23:50.880 They'd have no interest in getting anywhere on the ground and gas on that area.
00:23:54.220 I'm kind of speculating it's just more messaging to the neighboring nations saying stay out.
00:23:59.120 Stay out of it.
00:24:00.260 Yeah, you don't want to be visited by one of our F-35s.
00:24:04.740 And the other thing, of course, is just ensuring continuity of oil flows.
00:24:08.980 Yeah, there's always that.
00:24:10.340 I mean, to the degree that you can do that with a naval force,
00:24:13.520 but it depends whether I don't know what's going in with the carriers,
00:24:17.500 whether they also have um sending in troop carriers as well that just to do a ground
00:24:28.220 intervention if they need to if somebody's turning off the taps somewhere i don't know
00:24:34.060 but that would make sense that uh if they they will be able to do what they need to do to keep
00:24:40.220 the keep energy on there's not just uh the united states and great britain i mean all of europe is
00:24:45.020 drawing, drawing oil from that area. Good Lord, we get some ourselves from, from that area.
00:24:52.260 Not that there's a Canadian aircraft carrier on the, uh, currently being constructed.
00:24:58.720 The American government has confirmed that they have assets in the area now that are capable of
00:25:04.760 rescuing hostages. So we're talking the FBI hostage rescue team. We're talking SEAL teams,
00:25:11.080 the elite of the elite
00:25:14.460 so if they get
00:25:15.720 intelligence that an American hostage
00:25:18.640 is being held at this address in Gaza
00:25:20.680 they said these guys are known
00:25:22.620 as the door kickers 1.00
00:25:23.640 I wouldn't be surprised to see American boots 0.99
00:25:26.160 on the ground in Gaza
00:25:27.360 rescuing an American hostage
00:25:29.320 because the Israelis are a bit busy at the moment
00:25:32.000 specialized targeted
00:25:33.640 specialized targeted
00:25:34.740 that would not surprise me at all
00:25:37.960 protecting their citizens
00:25:39.660 And there's a lot of American citizens in Israel.
00:25:42.480 I mean, Israel is a unique country.
00:25:46.160 I mean, with the amount of citizens it has around the world,
00:25:48.500 but still strong ties back to Israel that are going to support.
00:25:52.480 I mean, the ramifications as this goes on,
00:25:55.600 Americans have been putting a lot of resources into Ukraine.
00:26:00.220 They're going to be diverting a lot of that now towards Israel.
00:26:04.640 And they only have so much they can dedicate.
00:26:06.880 I think the money-making printing machines are going strong in the United States.
00:26:14.700 Just quickly one point on the last thing.
00:26:16.520 There are Canadian hostages, the Israeli government confirmed today.
00:26:19.520 We don't know how many, but there are Canadians being held hostage.
00:26:23.820 Ukraine President Zelensky is concerned about this.
00:26:27.320 He says, you know, the world's attention will now focus to the Middle East and people will forget about us.
00:26:33.040 There was a NATO meeting today in Europe in which all the defense ministers said, you know, we won't. European countries pledged more hundreds of millions of dollars. The U.S. government is pledging hundreds of millions of dollars more.
00:26:50.120 So, you know, and the U.S. is also giving arms to Israel in terms of armaments and whatnot.
00:26:59.480 So their stocks must be pretty depleted.
00:27:04.800 You know, it looks like the Ukrainian counteroffensive has kind of stalled or not going as quickly as they would hope.
00:27:11.040 So, you know, I guess there may not be enough weapons to go around.
00:27:15.720 Should have bought General Dynamics when we had the chance.
00:27:18.480 Exactly.
00:27:18.880 I guess kind of a minor blessing in a sense, it still doesn't matter, it's being utilized elsewhere, but the Russian hardware and abilities, I mean, they've often liked to play and often in support of the Arab nations in that area, but they don't have resources they can be sending down there.
00:27:35.960 They're trying to get resources out of North Korea right now as it stands militarily.
00:27:39.820 So, you know, some of those players, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the others, can't count on Russia to put in on this,
00:27:46.540 which, again, I think is good because it might reduce the chances, which I think a lot of people fear,
00:27:50.960 of an all-out war breaking out in that area.
00:27:53.580 So, you know, you talk about all-out war, and obviously we should talk about it,
00:27:58.220 and that is a real risk that a lot of people are concerned about.
00:28:02.000 There's also the risk of this spreading.
00:28:04.740 And I'm thinking now about this muller who has called for a global jihad.
00:28:11.120 Perhaps I'm incorrect in calling him a muller, but he is a... 0.93
00:28:14.100 He was one of the founders of Hamas. 1.00
00:28:15.880 Former head of Hamas. 0.93
00:28:16.780 Founders of Hamas.
00:28:17.500 Okay, so the guy's name is Michelle,
00:28:21.760 and he's called on Hamas militants to conduct attacks around the world on Friday.
00:28:27.880 so we're here talking about what the americans are going to be doing for the israelis
00:28:36.360 i wonder if we're going to be talking next week about how the americans handled attacks on their
00:28:41.400 own soil it's an interesting point nigel because there was a lot of talk on twitter over the 0.50
00:28:46.200 weekend about the uh absolutely crazy flow of uh migrants coming across the uh the u.s southern
00:28:53.720 border, you know, 10, 11,000 a day. And there's speculation that amongst this crew, but not just
00:29:00.780 recently, but a while ago, Hamas operatives, terrorists have slipped in and are now in the
00:29:08.880 States. And the speculation got so much that the FBI actually issued a statement on it saying,
00:29:15.980 you know, we're monitoring, we're not aware of anything looming. But yeah,
00:29:22.820 it's you know it wouldn't come as a surprise if something happened in in in the united states
00:29:30.660 over the next month or so well just before we came on the program david i downloaded one story
00:29:35.640 just is very recent here about two men who had been apprehended who were on the terrorist watch
00:29:43.360 list and they were trying to slip across the border and the thrust of the story was that
00:29:48.700 well it was only two men it's very rare you know whereas an actual fact it was more like according
00:29:57.120 to a different source that it was more like about 160 people over the course of that time
00:30:05.500 had been recognized but you know don't they don't have to be on anybody's watch list no you can just
00:30:13.680 be a young kid in growing up in gaza without any prospects and somebody says to you if you want to
00:30:21.200 do this you could go to the united states you'll come up through the border we'll we'll get you
00:30:28.000 through there you don't have to worry about the gangs uh we'll get you through and you just go
00:30:34.720 where we tell you and wait and there will be other sleepers who will be doing the same thing and when
00:30:43.040 we give you the signal start start shooting we always sorry we always thought it was going to be
00:30:49.440 the russians russian sleeper agents yeah well there's nothing to say how moss doesn't have
00:30:54.240 sleeper agents you know you talk about the two that were picked up okay well two out of how many
00:31:00.080 11 000 people across a day and you find two well the other part is some just local nut bar who's
00:31:09.280 inspired by the events over there, he decides on their own. I mean, Dearborn, Michigan, how many
00:31:14.240 thousands came out waving there, you know, because there's a very large population there of people.
00:31:20.880 Again, most of them, of course, aren't going to commit any acts of violence, but that's the nature
00:31:24.640 of terrorism. A very small number of people can commit some terrible amount of damage,
00:31:29.840 and then you get the social backlash, and then we really will start seeing some...
00:31:33.520 You look at just the hundreds and hundreds of terrorists that Hamas convinced to go across the border into Israel in what they probably knew was going to be a suicide mission.
00:31:46.000 They weren't coming back from him. 0.81
00:31:47.160 And they persuaded hundreds, scored hundreds to do it, to give up their lives for the Hamas cause. 0.91
00:31:56.440 So you're not beyond the realm of impossibility that they could have convinced some young men to go to America, sneak in, and attack the great Satan in the underbelly. 0.92
00:32:09.020 That's it.
00:32:10.420 I mean, the lack of prospects in some of these places is so severe that it actually sounds attractive.
00:32:17.620 I know I was in Afghanistan.
00:32:19.540 I was up in the northwest part of it in Gar province, and I just being shown around.
00:32:25.240 And there was this 14-year-old kid who was looking after a flock of goats, a herd of goats.
00:32:32.840 And the person who was introducing us around pulled him over and talked to him in his own language, obviously.
00:32:42.140 He was very courteous, very pleasant kid.
00:32:44.820 And he said, you know, he could be one of the next ones because this is all he's got to look forward to for the rest of his life. 0.88
00:32:52.620 If he decides to go with the Taliban, they will make him rich beyond his wildest imagination. 0.71
00:33:02.240 And if he gets killed, and he probably will, then the family gets a huge payout. 0.67
00:33:08.740 So, of course, they're going to have takers.
00:33:12.100 There's a large cultural and faith embracing of martyrdom.
00:33:15.760 I mean, martyrs are very, you know, it's the height of your action you can do for Allah.
00:33:21.260 But he seems to be martyred for the cause.
00:33:24.440 We don't see that, thankfully, in most other...
00:33:27.940 It was just seeing this kid, though.
00:33:29.700 He suddenly realized there was this flesh and blood example.
00:33:32.720 Okay, if that was me, what would I want?
00:33:35.440 I want to make your mark on the world to be somebody with a sense of purpose.
00:33:38.460 That's right. 0.99
00:33:38.820 The one bad actor that we haven't talked about that could have enormous consequence is Iran. 0.64
00:33:45.980 There's all sorts of talk about Iran having helped fund the Hamas attack and helped arm them and, you know, has been a constant supply of money and support.
00:34:00.440 Now, it hasn't been officially linked yet, but if it does come out that Iran helped this, what's going to happen then?
00:34:08.540 Is there going to be sanctions on Iran?
00:34:11.440 Is Iran going to launch?
00:34:13.160 You know, Iran can launch attacks on Israel. 0.78
00:34:17.640 They've got the fighter jets to do it. 0.64
00:34:19.420 Or is Israel going to attack Iran? 0.60
00:34:20.920 Or is Israel going to attack Iran proactively, right, and hit their nuclear effect?
00:34:27.260 And the big thing with Iran, Iran is the world's fourth largest producer of oil.
00:34:31.460 Since this whole crisis broke, oil is kind of being steady, you know, $87, $86 a barrel.
00:34:39.960 But if sanctions are put on Iran that affects their oil-producing capabilities,
00:34:46.180 that's when we're talking about $100 a barrel of oil and $2 a litre gasoline.
00:34:53.040 So they're a crucially important player, and, you know, I don't think their leaders are playing with a full deck.
00:34:59.020 So they're unpredictable, which is very dangerous.
00:35:03.620 Well, again, you know, their hatred of Israel is in the same league
00:35:08.120 as the hatred that's inside a young man who stabs a baby to death.
00:35:13.100 They're capable of anything.
00:35:16.360 We've been lucky so far that wiser heads have prevailed,
00:35:21.580 but not necessarily forever.
00:35:24.440 They will seize what they view as their chance.
00:35:27.600 This could be it.
00:35:29.020 One final push, and the little Satan is finished. 0.88
00:35:35.020 Well, we're old enough to remember enough hostage situations in Iran, enough ayatollahs, and ongoing. 0.99
00:35:40.020 I mean, Iran's always been a rogue, nasty player. 0.99
00:35:44.020 Just the fact, I mean, it's a reality, as cold as it sounds. 1.00
00:35:47.020 They have so much oil, they can't be taken off the stage,
00:35:52.020 but they increasingly just insist on being such a terrible player on the world stage.
00:35:57.020 the world. You know, it's the darndest thing, Corey. I mean, you run into Iranians over here
00:36:01.440 all the time, people who have legally immigrated to Canada from Iran, some of the nicest people
00:36:07.820 in the world. They're really fine people. What is it about their government that they can't
00:36:13.200 get rid of it? I know they've tried from time to time, and they've had their heads knocked
00:36:18.300 and worse for making the attempt, but this is like a group of gangsters that's running
00:36:23.640 a small town in the Wild West, except that it's not a small town. It's a country that
00:36:30.860 may have a nuclear weapon.
00:36:32.860 The Revolutionary Guard has got their boot on the throat of the country. Their secret
00:36:39.140 police, whose name escapes me now, they're beating women for not wearing their hijab
00:36:45.080 properly. So very difficult for the population to overthrow that government, I would think.
00:36:51.880 It's easy, I guess, to sit here and say, you know, that's kind of what I push in the column and talk.
00:36:55.660 We're just saying cousins have got to start getting up and pushing back.
00:36:58.000 But it is easy for me to stay from the comfort of here versus somebody who's on the ground where you could be very terribly executed if you try to push against the authorities that are in power and fail.
00:37:08.700 I'd like to talk, if we could, a minute, Corey, about Canadian Palestinians and how they're showing their support.
00:37:18.600 I did a story yesterday on an Air Canada pilot who was photographed wearing a Palestinian scarf
00:37:25.180 and had tweeted horrible things about Israel, you know, wishing them to condemn in hell and burn in hell
00:37:31.440 and saying Adolf Hitler would be proud of the Israeli activities.
00:37:35.600 Got on social media, as of course it will, and then you've got people saying,
00:37:39.540 well, Air Canada, what's going on here? I don't want to fly into Tel Aviv with this guy.
00:37:44.320 It was cleared to fly the big 787 jets.
00:37:48.420 So Air Canada immediately grounded him.
00:37:50.860 It's turned political now with Hope Chilliwack MP Chuck Strahl and the Conservatives calling for his dismissal.
00:38:00.740 We've got a Toronto cop I just saw before coming in here who was basically doing the same thing.
00:38:06.220 He's in uniform, but his Twitter is showing all sorts of nasty messages against Israel.
00:38:14.320 so it's interesting i mean can these can a pilot be fired for supporting
00:38:21.200 palestine well talk to your human rights commission on that one it's difficult actually
00:38:28.000 well i don't know whether it is well there's the line between palestine and hamas 0.92
00:38:32.320 like there's the where you start to get a little more blurry no tolerance for supporting hamas
00:38:38.320 if i were in hr in air canada it would be this simple i would say listen man we give you a
00:38:45.600 uniform you wear the uniform you're not allowed to adorn it with a palestinian flag or a gay pride
00:38:52.160 sticker or anything else that individual case yeah he abused his uniform representation absolutely
00:38:58.560 i agree with dave this fellow shouldn't be flying at the moment um for all kinds of reasons that we
00:39:04.560 we can imagine, but as far as just getting this,
00:39:09.400 gentlemen to be, it's a corporate thing.
00:39:12.400 It's like when you go to Starbucks,
00:39:13.420 you're not supposed to wear their, you know,
00:39:15.620 their personal t-shirt clothes and things like that.
00:39:19.040 Good, that's not what you're there for.
00:39:22.380 Do that on your own time.
00:39:23.820 So, but somebody with those kinds of political views, boy.
00:39:31.280 Yeah, well, I know we're kind of talking around it,
00:39:33.740 But the reality is if you're flying on a plane, you don't want to think your pilot may be somebody who has terrorist leavings.
00:39:41.040 That's simple, isn't it?
00:39:42.300 It can go through your mind a little.
00:39:43.400 Common sense.
00:39:44.120 I mean, it's, you know, thankfully, we haven't seen that.
00:39:49.600 But he's in a position of being entrusted with the lives of a lot of passengers.
00:39:53.700 And you wonder how extreme his use might be or how stable he might be.
00:39:56.920 Yeah, Nigel, when he was talking about touring Afghanistan, you weren't on a personal holiday
00:40:05.060 there, you were there with the Prime Minister.
00:40:07.440 The incident I was talking about was on a previous trip, I've been there twice.
00:40:14.200 You suggested the headline for this particular episode, the Israel Fires Water, and Corey
00:40:22.160 and I didn't really understand it, but when you told us it was very interesting.
00:40:26.520 Well, look, back in 2014, Prime Minister Harper did address the Knesset of Israel, and it was an emotional speech.
00:40:39.800 It was intended to be, to express Canada's ongoing friendship and support of Israel.
00:40:46.680 And in that, he said, we will be with you through fire and water.
00:40:52.120 there's a very it was a wonderful moment when he delivered that line in the knesset there was a
00:40:58.440 brief pause and then like 600 people simultaneously drew their breath in like a
00:41:05.980 and then he got a standing ovation that went on for quite a long time almost embarrassing
00:41:11.760 but that's a phrase that comes out of psalm 66 uh it's um it speaks to the the
00:41:20.140 experience of being led out of Egypt through the Red Sea when the waters miraculously parted and
00:41:28.280 the Israelites got across and then the waters came back and drowned the Egyptian army that was
00:41:33.300 pursuing them. It speaks to the crossing of the Jordan as they entered the promised land in that
00:41:40.480 phase of their history when the waters were backed up so that they were able to cross the flooding
00:41:46.000 jordan on you know a dry water bed and then once everybody was across the river started to flow
00:41:53.520 again and then it's the fire that preceded them by night and when they were coming through the
00:41:59.040 desert because god represented himself to them as a fire by night a pillar of fire and then during
00:42:07.760 the day a pillar of cloud as long as they were following that they were going in the right
00:42:15.040 direction and they were safe so the idea of of fire and water is a is a very emotive one
00:42:24.960 to an observant jew and especially one living in israel so the prime minister
00:42:32.160 prime minister harper used that phrase and if they ever had any doubts whether he was serious or not
00:42:40.480 that those doubts evaporated at that moment.
00:42:43.780 Now, it's unfortunate that that strong empathy
00:42:46.740 that built up between Israel and Canada at that time
00:42:51.000 was dissipated very quickly by the current administration.
00:42:55.300 I mean, we were talking earlier about the strong words
00:42:57.980 that Mr. Trudeau had had for the terrorists,
00:43:01.980 but, you know, it's been a long time coming,
00:43:04.400 and there's not much been done in the meantime.
00:43:05.980 No, and significantly, there was a statement put out
00:43:09.100 by five members of the G7, you know, their strong support for Israel and will have your
00:43:18.220 back.
00:43:19.220 There was one member of the G7, conspicuously absent, and two guesses as to who that was,
00:43:26.760 Mr. Trudeau's candidate.
00:43:27.760 So I think that just shows how far we've fallen in the eyes of our allies over the
00:43:33.860 last few years, that they don't even consult us on a breaking world crisis.
00:43:38.220 Dave, I'm going to make a very subtle distinction on that.
00:43:42.140 I mean, broadly speaking, yes, I agree with you.
00:43:43.860 Of course I do.
00:43:45.560 But I don't think that it is Canada that has fallen in the eyes of its allies.
00:43:52.140 I think it is this particular government and particularly this prime minister who people have already made the decision.
00:44:02.180 This is not a serious player.
00:44:03.860 this is not somebody you can really talk about
00:44:08.220 serious things with
00:44:10.360 he is frivolous and doesn't follow through
00:44:14.100 and is quite likely to cut the meeting anyway
00:44:16.620 let's just not bother with him
00:44:19.320 I would say that
00:44:22.840 it would be very different
00:44:24.920 with the most likely leader of the next government
00:44:28.080 which obviously is Pierre Oliver
00:44:30.020 but even if Mr. Trudeau resigned
00:44:33.240 and they had a different leader of the Liberal Party,
00:44:38.720 someone like Mark Carney,
00:44:41.700 a man I have profound disagreements with as an opinion writer.
00:44:46.180 I think a lot of what he stands for is awful.
00:44:47.880 But at least if you have run not one central bank,
00:44:54.460 but two, and one of them the Bank of England,
00:44:57.880 you can't write him off as a piece of fluff.
00:45:00.220 and unfortunately that is the reputation mr trudeau has built for himself it's going to
00:45:08.260 take a lot more than this no well spoken as it was it's going to take more than that
00:45:13.340 to bring him back to any kind of public esteem and i don't think it's possible
00:45:17.200 are you saying are you saying carney wasn't a drama teacher
00:45:20.220 i he actually had a job unfortunately when i listen to mark carney speak i have the dreadful
00:45:27.760 sinking feeling that he's not acting that he actually means what he says and what he says
00:45:33.760 disturbs me greatly yes intelligence scary dude he's no fool and i mean to kind of close things
00:45:38.720 out and talking about that you know our diplomatic corps used to have a strong reputation some
00:45:42.800 actually very brave acts that we won't have time to get into we were known for in the middle east
00:45:46.720 decades ago with a hostage situation there and what did we see last weekend canada's embassy
00:45:52.400 in israel is closed for thanksgiving what do you exist for as an embassy if you cannot staff it in
00:46:00.400 the course of an emergency even if there happens to be a holiday back home what an embarrassment
00:46:05.840 it shows how unseriously this thing is can it is not taken seriously you don't even take ourselves
00:46:10.640 seriously if we can't get our embassy open in israel in a crisis and uh then melanie jolie i
00:46:16.720 I just want to finish with that.
00:46:18.320 Our foreign affairs minister shows up to G.I. Jane, G.I. Jolie with, you know, olive green.
00:46:26.140 It definitely was a fashion model to make it look like she was wearing a military blazer almost 1.00
00:46:31.320 and her hair cut short military stuff. 1.00
00:46:33.020 She's looking at it as a fashion game. 0.99
00:46:36.680 It's just embarrassing, you know, embarrassing.
00:46:39.980 We're not to be taken seriously.
00:46:41.360 It's different when you see a leader in a war zone who's actually there who's wearing camouflage.
00:46:45.200 The odds of her getting shelled in Ottawa, maybe increased a little bit since that stunt,
00:46:49.880 but are still pretty remote, I would think.
00:46:52.340 Yeah, I think Mr. Zelensky overdoes it, frankly.
00:46:55.920 But even, you know, at least the guy can say, well, my country's at war,
00:47:00.040 so I'm wearing a, you know, a green t-shirt in solidarity with the boys at the front.
00:47:06.460 She's role-playing, and in a serious role.
00:47:08.980 It's her foreign affairs minister, and it just,
00:47:11.520 no wonder we don't get the phone calls when serious business comes.
00:47:14.100 oh well well thank you guys hopefully though we have some brighter things to
