Western Standard - The Rant with Cory Morgan. October 19, 2020

00:00:00.000 hey welcome to this week's episode of the rant I'm Cory Morgan this is my 1.00

00:00:12.120 weekly therapeutic thing to get over the latest news good news bad news stupid 0.96

00:00:17.760 news whatever I get it off my chest I tell you what's been happening I tell 0.88

00:00:22.440 you what to think about it you can tell me what you think I used to be doing it

00:00:26.160 live one of the things I have to rant about is my rural internet coverage I

00:00:29.760 love living just on the edge of the city but unfortunately fiber optics and

00:00:33.520 other such things aren't options for me out here and the telus hub really sucks

00:00:37.800 so I'm gonna record it put it out can't get your live comments as they go but as

00:00:41.820 things improve we'll get there so I'll get on to a nice simple story this is the

00:00:47.640 one that's been dominating the news all week Nova Scotia there seems to be the

00:00:51.760 war is breaking out again basically between lobster fishermen and the local

00:00:57.000 indigenous now lobster or fishers fair enough every gender can fish but it's

00:01:04.640 getting really bad out there again I mean those guys were shooting at each other

00:01:07.520 and chasing each other around in boats some years ago this is what happens when

00:01:10.320 you have race-based policy like let's quit pissing around when you have a policy for

00:01:14.540 one race and not another race there's gonna be tensions always and it's never 0.92

00:01:18.580 gonna stop so that Marshall decision bullshit I mean I can understand at least

00:01:23.520 with some some treaty decisions so let's talk about that there was a decision 0.79

00:01:26.620 called the Marshall decision that said they had the right to sustenance and

00:01:30.660 making a living type of lobster fishing but it's led to and expanded into huge

00:01:36.380 commercial operations that are decimating the local lobster stocks and are

00:01:39.960 leading to well what's going to be a lot of unemployed lobster fishery people very

00:01:46.040 soon they're pulling out now in the offseason 50,000 pounds of lobster a day this

00:01:52.440 can't be sustained and there's a reason that fisheries have seasons because you

00:01:55.260 can't pull them out while they're spawning or you don't get new lobster down

00:01:59.940 the road but we've got a large number of people who are just living for the

00:02:03.000 moment make the money now while they can and it's just going to decimate because

00:02:07.660 they don't look beyond the end of their nose or beyond a few months we're

00:02:10.560 seeing the same problem with the sockeye run nobody likes to talk about it but

00:02:13.500 part of the problem on the west coast is some people are putting gill nets

00:02:17.040 across that river and keeping those things from spawning we blame global warming and

00:02:20.440 everything else for those things collapsing but uncontrolled fishing by

00:02:24.220 people are supposed to be just pulling out enough to eat yet somehow are selling it

00:02:26.980 on every roadside stand are causing the problems there we saw that similarly too

00:02:33.160 again with the Stony Reserve in Alberta I remember the 90s they did a bunch of

00:02:37.660 logging you can still see it if you drive highway 1 if you live out in Alberta

00:02:41.560 west of Calgary and you see all that logging by the Kananaskis turn it's being

00:02:45.380 reclaimed the the trees are growing back well they logged all that out back in the 90s no

00:02:49.880 buffer zones no riparian buffers everything else they made an ecological

00:02:53.360 disaster and what they ended up basically doing was suing the government for not

00:02:56.560 stopping them because it was on native land but they did it made such a mess

00:03:01.120 that they sued us for not stopping them and then we had to pay to reclaim the

00:03:04.880 mess that they've made now I want to see these reserves develop local resources and

00:03:10.340 get their own economy going it's great it's good for all of us but they got to

00:03:13.680 follow the same rules and regulations as the rest of us there I admit we got way too

00:03:17.540 any rules and regulations but some of them do have a reason they do serve a

00:03:20.540 purpose and again you've got to have the same ones for everybody if you're going

00:03:24.420 to have them at all and so things have gotten really tense though so some of

00:03:29.520 the Nova Scotia fishers out of desperation actually burned down it's

00:03:34.080 called a lobster pound it's the area where you're gonna sell your lobster to is

00:03:37.660 after you've caught them and that's where they'll get frozen or processed and

00:03:41.300 shipped to wherever there might be a buyer because that's the thing too so this was

00:03:45.700 terribly dangerous a person got burned with life-threatening industry injury

00:03:48.880 somebody could have died you see this is not the way we want to see this dispute

00:03:53.380 coming to an end but these people are at the end of the rope they're losing their

00:03:56.880 living the government of course doesn't want to touch this with a ten-foot pole 0.95

00:03:59.900 they're terrified of native issues so they're just kind of hoping that somehow 0.82

00:04:03.280 it'll solve itself and it won't and an example this is kind of what brought it to

00:04:07.180 light recently so a large lobster pound that was out there was run by this guy as you

00:04:13.180 could see here and he was found guilty of illegally selling lobster and he was

00:04:16.840 shipping it to China frozen he was buying it thousands of pounds of it this

00:04:22.960 stinger operation actually tagged lobster put them back in the ocean and then they

00:04:28.900 could see who caught them and where they were sold they were all caught by

00:04:32.440 indigenous lobster fishermen and sold to this guy because they I mean they got

00:04:37.300 to sell somewhere they can't just you know it's not household consumption and

00:04:40.360 it's not small sales so pounds like this fellow who were illegally shipping it

00:04:43.960 along are sending it out so now that the the local natives lost one of their

00:04:49.340 bigger pipelines to be able to send out this lobster it's it's just caused them 0.99

00:04:52.560 to ramp things up further and we've really got an explosive situation going on

00:04:56.560 out there and it's something I find ironic from the the left-wingers and some

00:04:59.680 of the natives they're screaming we gotta get the RCMP injury they gotta protect us 1.00

00:05:02.460 they gotta do this they gotta do that it wasn't that long ago guys and

00:05:05.480 listening to your allies there Black Lives Matter who say we want to abolish the 1.00

00:05:08.560 police we don't want any police well maybe these lobster fishers getting up

00:05:12.520 burning down pounds the threat thing you guys is the community based policing

00:05:16.360 you're talking about I mean it's grassroots it's bottom-up isn't it

00:05:18.880 they're locals you guys can settle it on your own no you want please like I can't 0.99

00:05:23.780 tell I don't know week by week what you assholes want and you know we would we 0.97

00:05:27.800 gotta get out of Mohawk's land we're gonna block the roads because RCMP have no 1.00

00:05:31.540 jurisdiction with us so apparently the RCMP don't have jurisdiction with it with

00:05:35.220 natives here or Wet'suwet'en oh they're invading their territory well maybe the 1.00

00:05:39.480 RCMP should just stay out of this you know you guys can all kind of sort this

00:05:42.840 out on your own might not be a pretty way to go about it we better figure out a

00:05:47.400 balance here guys and let this just you know be something for people to think of 1.00

00:05:51.960 or to respond to other people when they talk about something as fucking stupid as 0.97

00:05:55.500 abolishing police because it's not reasonable we can reform police but we 0.99

00:05:58.980 can't get rid of them plus we can't have a world where police only have

00:06:01.980 authority on this race's property but not that race's property we're gonna have 0.99

00:06:06.660 a little civil war out there pretty soon if the police are not allowed to

00:06:09.300 intervene somehow and get some order in there and again though this is gonna keep

00:06:13.320 being going on as long as we have race-based policy now what are we doing

00:06:17.760 in light of all this though oh look at that Queens is dropping Sir John A.

00:06:21.960 McDonald's name from their law school building because again we feel if we

00:06:25.680 pander enough if we erase history enough these racial tensions are gonna end no 1.00

00:06:32.180 they aren't you idiots as long as we've got racial policies like the Indian Act 1.00

00:06:36.240 there's gonna be racial tensions because you were getting one class of people and 1.00

00:06:40.380 another class of people and it's based on bloodline race nothing else this it's

00:06:44.440 unbelievable that the politically correct stance is to support what is

00:06:48.860 literally institutionalized racism and that's the Indian Act we've got to stop it

00:06:53.660 but instead now we're running around trying to erase our country's founders

00:06:58.160 name from places here is Sir Johnny the only you know one purpose I see he stands I 1.00

00:07:02.840 prefer seeing his old face on our currency because we'd see that moron 0.91

00:07:06.680 Trudeau on there or something like that if we didn't have Sir Johnny on there this 0.98

00:07:13.820 guy yeah he was a product of his times he believed in the residential schools they

00:07:17.780 thought they were doing the right thing hey things change it was 150 years ago don't 0.99

00:07:22.040 be stupid it doesn't make it disappear we're not still doing it he was a 0.98

00:07:25.460 historic figure he did do some great things he did some bad things he was a 1.00

00:07:28.580 drunkard there were corruption scandals but he was an integral part of the 1.00

00:07:32.360 national history and it's bloody stupid with these efforts to try and erase him 1.00

00:07:36.620 from our history now speaking of cowards on the federal front we've got the NDP 0.99

00:07:40.940 Trudeau and Singh they're both kind of our co-prime ministers now you can see how

00:07:45.500 they bonded actually they have a lot in common in some ways either way you know now

00:07:50.600 that that NDP tail is wagging the liberal dog it goes back and forth and it's

00:07:54.500 reciprocal so the Conservatives have been pushing really hard the weave scandal 0.99

00:07:58.160 because it looks like there's a lot more evidence that there was some more

00:08:01.100 money being funneled and pipeline and essentially laundered into Trudeau's

00:08:04.820 family to his mommy and his brother to give them extra things to do and make

00:08:08.420 some bucks you know because the trust fund wasn't just quite enough and a lot of

00:08:11.900 the documents that came in were redacted so the Liberals have been

00:08:15.720 filibustering the committee and stopping it from happening you know from from these

00:08:19.880 documents getting out of the what was it Wayne Easter just shut down a committee

00:08:23.240 out of the blue at a zoom meeting while Pierre Poliev was getting too close to

00:08:27.080 the truth it's absurd but the NDP said ah you know we'll back down and we won't

00:08:32.400 ask for those documents about your mommy and your brother anymore because the

00:08:35.420 NDP and the Liberals are in something of a partnership and screwing Canada

00:08:38.660 right now and they're doing a fantastic job of it one of the deals cut of

00:08:41.920 course is expanding our perpetual welfare program of CERB and such we're just

00:08:46.260 renaming it and changing it but it's going to go on into next spring and

00:08:49.620 ignoring the the fact that it's basically making us go broke and now we're

00:08:54.180 starting to see some of the consequences of having money handed out to people

00:08:58.020 just no questions asked and given out to them to dispose of how they will it's

00:09:03.200 it's developed over this last five months a beautiful and blossoming drug

00:09:07.140 market we're seeing with overdoses have surpassed COVID deaths pretty much

00:09:11.280 everywhere in Canada I mean the overdoses are exploding because

00:09:13.660 unfortunately vulnerable people don't put CERB money into their RSPs they get

00:09:18.540 drugs and they take them and they die now the gangsters are using CERB to buy

00:09:23.320 guns and protect their turf because you know there's big business now going on so

00:09:27.380 these different gangs of course are wanting to get into it so that then the

00:09:30.040 whole funding is actually out of the CERB so isn't that comforting those few of

00:09:33.080 us who are working for a living still and paying taxes this is where it's

00:09:36.400 going is to fund these now the Liberals and the NDP like universal basic

00:09:40.900 income ideas that basically means CERB forever no questions asked money being

00:09:44.400 given out so we can see the gang aspect what's going to go but you know it's not

00:09:47.380 just the street level gangs it's not just the addicts there's also lazy sons of 0.99

00:09:50.980 bitches like this guy he wrote this piece in the Globe and Mail a year ago he 1.00

00:09:56.660 said he doesn't want to do his PhD anymore he's a career student he's been 0.98

00:09:59.700 languishing through our system for some time probably has a big debt you know just

00:10:03.120 just wants to cruise around party he wants a UBI and he writes and expands on

00:10:07.540 that in his story though he's a poet yes he's a poet nobody wants to buy his 0.97

00:10:10.820 fucking poetry so in order to be a poet make a living he feels the world owes him 0.95

00:10:15.120 a living through universal basic income the only thing I can give this guy 1.00

00:10:18.180 credit for he's honest about it he says I want to sit on my ass and write poetry 0.95

00:10:22.240 and I want the world to pay me to do it I'll give him that but either way quit 0.99

00:10:27.360 denying reality there are lazy bums out there there are junkies out there there 1.00

00:10:32.460 are a great number of people out there who are not going to do better if we keep

00:10:35.440 handing them money with no strings attached we have people who need help

00:10:39.640 and we got to work on things but let's not pretend that it's just as simple as

00:10:43.460 writing checks because actually the checks can cause more damage than what

00:10:47.160 they're trying to solve much like our lockdowns aren't solving

00:10:49.660 the pandemic now getting to those who might want to work it must get a little

00:10:55.240 more provincial the UCP had their policy convention on the weekend and one of the

00:10:59.500 things that's got the unions all stirred up and it doesn't take a lot of

00:11:01.820 imagination to stir up unions they're pretty vulnerable feeling people for

00:11:07.000 some reason his right to work legislation you know this is the thing I always get

00:11:11.060 a kick out of the union people the thing they hate the most is giving their own

00:11:15.540 members a choice why if you guys are so damn good why would you ever fear your

00:11:20.580 members having the choice of whether or not they want to be with you if you're so

00:11:23.940 damn good nobody's gonna leave they'll stick with you guys come on and why do

00:11:27.860 unions always hate secret ballots there's only one reason anybody would ever hate a 0.97

00:11:31.400 secret ballot unions are always fighting secret ballots on certification 0.98

00:11:34.060 because they want to intimidate people because they're friggin thugs that's why 0.92

00:11:38.820 there's only one kind of person who wants to see how everyone else is voting 0.96

00:11:42.260 it's the person who wants to intimidate those people to vote the way they want

00:11:45.740 unions should have nothing to fear with right-to-work legislation now the

00:11:49.200 disappointing part is this was a policy convention I know these are party

00:11:53.960 policy resolutions I wish I could say there were things that were moving ahead but

00:11:57.980 I'll tell you I can he's gonna have enough fighting with the unions coming up in the

00:12:00.340 next little while I doubt he's gonna move on right-to-work legislation the at

00:12:04.120 best policy resolutions at party conventions are broad suggestions to the

00:12:10.300 caucus it's kind of good and bad I mean you can't have party members pick every

00:12:13.620 policy if you've got a fluid and changing world where they you know caucus and

00:12:17.440 members have to respond to individual issues as they erupt as well a policy

00:12:23.140 might not cover a rural MLA might have not the same needs as as an urban one and

00:12:27.760 with free voting you know it should be something of a more of a mismatch either

00:12:31.240 way I don't think we're gonna see Kenny putting right-to-work legislation on the

00:12:37.420 table legislatively anytime soon I'd love it if he did but I think he's gonna move

00:12:43.120 on with other things they they did also have a resolution talking about possibly 0.98

00:12:47.740 having two-tier health care well guess what assholes we've already got it it's 0.93

00:12:51.160 been happening for a long time you don't see anybody on the flames there if they get an 0.96

00:12:55.040 injury waiting for 18 months to get an MRI they get it quickly and people of

00:13:00.080 heavy means will go at least when it's not locked down across the border and

00:13:04.940 they'll get treatment as well so that this is nothing new don't light your hair

00:13:09.860 on fire it's not a big deal I'm hoping to see some health reforms I want to see

00:13:13.400 quadruple tiers going on but for the time being there's not a big pile of

00:13:17.120 problems now let's talk about our shitty press yes here we go big headline Ottawa

00:13:23.660 surpasses 6,000 COVID-19 cases oh my god and two deaths now that's 6,000 total 0.65

00:13:32.840 that's 6,000 since COVID began actively they just have 700 some so why are we

00:13:37.420 even talking about the 6,000 you know I tweeted that or it's like reporting on

00:13:41.480 the bubonic plague to talk about there's a 16 million people with the bubonic plague

00:13:44.780 well yeah that was all a few hundred years ago but but they had it okay but how

00:13:51.080 many have it today because that's all it really friggin matters how many have it

00:13:54.020 today today in Ottawa it's almost you know a little more 10% of what they're

00:13:58.500 reporting and it's just cases not deaths look at that two deaths in a large

00:14:02.340 populated area turn out they're both people in their 80s tragic for those

00:14:06.860 people in their 80s but again this plague is nothing like the media likes to 0.99

00:14:11.600 make it out to be look at that crap why would you make a headline like that why 0.90

00:14:14.440 why don't you say 700 and some COVID cases that if you even if you're 0.97

00:14:18.840 reporting on cases which really aren't that important you know of course they

00:14:21.540 keep forgetting to mention that we're testing more than ever as well

00:14:24.080 thus we get more cases and they sure don't like talking about the fact that

00:14:27.120 people aren't dying because that doesn't sell papers I guess I'm really looking

00:14:31.440 forward to the mainstream media truly falling apart and they're coming close 1.00

00:14:34.320 so let's go over and talk about all those evil bastards that nasty nation those 1.00

00:14:39.740 ones that are pissing off the world yes those dirty nasty Swedes because they 1.00

00:14:44.900 keep proving the fear mongers wrong they still aren't locking down they never did 0.99

00:14:50.560 lockdown they never had mask legislation they didn't shut down their schools they

00:14:55.500 didn't shut down their restaurants and bars and guess what they didn't friggin die 0.87

00:14:59.820 oh yeah my pictures are sexist too many women well let's be fair then here's a 0.99

00:15:03.400 couple of Swedish men I'm sure a few my viewers will appreciate that view as well

00:15:07.200 one thing to be said for these Swedes they are healthy looking or at least the 1.00

00:15:10.340 ones I pick in pictures and that's fine but they are healthy in reality because 0.99

00:15:14.500 let's have a look look at that it's not just me talking out of my ass guys they 0.98

00:15:18.300 stopped dying over there it stopped happening I mean at the early part of the 0.98

00:15:22.100 pandemic you can see like many nations they went and put infected people in 0.99

00:15:26.860 with their vulnerable ones they put people in nursing homes I mean the worst

00:15:29.860 possible place to put COVID infected people and their death rate was terrible

00:15:33.340 as it was though it was less than Quebec and less than many other places it was

00:15:36.360 still bad once they figured that out and isolated people look at that curve

00:15:40.140 right down to the flat line no deaths on the 15th of October which is the last

00:15:44.180 report and as you can see by that line there's been virtually no deaths for

00:15:47.240 weeks they have one every few days yet they didn't do all those measures that

00:15:51.640 we're busy castrating our economies for right now go figure I'm gonna check in 0.67

00:15:56.260 on them in a week or two and guess what they still won't be friggin dying and 1.00

00:15:59.140 we'll probably still be locking ourselves down because we're friggin stupid now 1.00

00:16:02.820 speaking of stupid though I'll get on to the chode of the week because this one's a 0.99

00:16:06.140 beauty so this is yeah he writes for the New Yorker he's also a person who writes 1.00

00:16:10.740 for CNN he wrote a book going after President Trump always a good old lefty 0.99

00:16:15.280 he's woke he's on top of things he's uh he's a chronic masturbator he was 0.99

00:16:21.140 whacking off during a zoom meeting with a radio station I mean this is the best 0.98

00:16:26.100 thing for late night shows and comedians or even ranchers like me since the

00:16:30.980 Anthony Weiner incident I mean you can't beat this really dude really you know at

00:16:36.100 first they reported this it just said uh yeah he was suspended over a zoom
