00:00:00.000 Hello, I'm Dave Naylor, news editor of the Western Standard. A trio of conservative
00:00:12.840 candidates have been declared the winners of the Alberta Senate election. Erica Barutes,
00:00:17.880 Pam Davidson and Michaelio Martiniuk have now a six-year window where a Prime Minister could
00:00:25.320 send them to the Red Chamber. Davidson led with the most votes at 382,000. Barutes came second with
00:00:33.300 358,000 and Martiniuk came third with 237,000. Independent Doug Horner garnered 179,000 votes.
00:00:44.340 Fellow Independent Karina Pillay received 144,000. Independent Duncan Kenney got
00:00:54.720 128,000. Anne McCormick led candidates from the People's Party of Canada with 109,000 votes.
00:01:02.160 Fellow PPC candidate Kelly Lorenz had 107,000. PPC candidate Nadine Wellwood, 98,401. Independent
00:01:12.840 Jeff Nielsen, 95,000. Independent Rick Bonnet, 93,000. Independent Sunil Sukram, 87,000. And coming
00:01:24.660 in last, Independent Chad Jet Thunders with 75,000. PPC leader Maxime Bernier said he was happy with the
00:01:32.640 results. Quote, our three candidates got approximately 5% each for a total of 15%, while the three
00:01:40.340 conservative candidates who won got 47% overall. The seven independent candidates shared the
00:01:46.380 remaining 38% of votes. Of course, it would have been nice to have had one of our candidates win one
00:01:51.960 of the top three spots, but getting more than one out of every seven votes and one-third of the level of
00:01:59.060 the support of the CPC is very encouraging. In last month's general election, the PPC received 5% of the
00:02:06.560 vote nationally. To see how your local area voted, go to the WesternStandardOnline.com site and follow the
