Justin Trudeau's policies to raise the price of food and fuel are making your food more expensive. It's time to wake up to the fact that our standard of living is falling, not falling because of rising energy prices, but because of higher food prices.

00:00:00.320 Greetings, Western Standard viewers.
00:00:03.840 Talking to you today about food prices.
00:00:06.320 If you think you're paying a lot now,
00:00:08.360 wait until another year has gone by
00:00:11.300 with the Liberal government insisting upon policies
00:00:15.020 that are designed to raise the price of fuel
00:00:18.560 and therefore to raise the price of food.
00:00:22.560 Things have changed a lot in the last few years.
00:00:26.100 We're used to food choices, aren't we,
00:00:28.160 that would have boggled the minds of an earlier generation.
00:00:32.380 Young people today can't imagine a world 1.00
00:00:34.540 where apples, oranges, and bananas were all the fruit there was
00:00:37.580 and a chicken for Sunday dinner was a big deal.
00:00:40.620 That, however, was life as it used to be in the 1950s.
00:00:44.440 Not so today.
00:00:45.600 It's great.
00:00:46.500 Whatever you can afford, whatever you want it,
00:00:48.920 from wherever it comes from year-round.
00:00:51.480 Fruit from Chile and South Africa.
00:00:53.800 Weekday wine from Australia.
00:00:55.480 Something a little more pretentious from France.
00:00:58.540 Lettuce from California.
00:00:59.940 Salmon from Alaska in the larder.
00:01:02.000 Noodles from China.
00:01:03.660 The flowers on the table.
00:01:05.120 Holland and so on.
00:01:06.680 Canadians shop the world today.
00:01:09.920 And if chicken's your treat, it's cheaper than Alberta beef.
00:01:12.640 Thing is, all of this depends on cheap oil.
00:01:15.380 And whether cheap oil lasts depends on how Justin Trudeau,
00:01:19.200 Stephen Guilbeau, and Jonathan Wilkinson play net zero.
00:01:23.220 To be fair, it also depends on OPEC, war in Ukraine, and other things.
00:01:27.860 But even if those things break our way, the liberal goal is to make oil more expensive.
00:01:32.420 And if that happens, it's over.
00:01:34.320 That is, you can only buy tulips from Amsterdam,
00:01:37.340 where the flower market is right next to the airport,
00:01:40.320 if the cost of jet fuel makes it possible to deliver flowers at a price people can afford.
00:01:45.340 Same with fresh produce.
00:01:46.580 Everything depends on cheap shipping, including that piece of Alaska salmon
00:01:53.820 that will be cut up in China before it hits the seafood counter in Alberta. 0.68
00:02:00.720 Yes, they really do that.
00:02:02.960 Chinese cheap labor makes it worthwhile. 1.00
00:02:06.100 But it won't matter if that saving is eaten up by higher fuel costs.
00:02:11.640 And everything the liberals are doing is driving up fuel prices.
00:02:16.580 And higher fuel costs makes your food more expensive.
00:02:20.980 So why are they doing this?
00:02:22.340 It's just because the overarching priority of Justin Trudeau's liberal government
00:02:26.560 is not good government.
00:02:28.660 It is his self-appointed mission
00:02:30.860 to have Canada show leadership on climate change
00:02:34.220 by trying to cut carbon emissions by making fuel more expensive.
00:02:39.280 It's a him thing.
00:02:41.020 Hence, Trudeau's four attacks on cheap food.
00:02:44.860 First, the carbon tax.
00:02:46.380 Just make fuel too expensive to use.
00:02:49.160 Second, his insane mandate to make electrical generation carbon net neutral by 2035.
00:02:55.460 A $1.75 trillion project.
00:02:59.500 Third, he's telling farmers to cut fertilizer use,
00:03:03.960 which means lower yields and therefore higher prices.
00:03:07.000 And of course, four, caps on Alberta oil production also drives up fuel prices.
00:03:12.640 All of this raises the price of energy and therefore of the food you eat.
00:03:17.860 This is madness.
00:03:19.320 If Mr. Trudeau thinks he's leading the world to salvation, he's wrong.
00:03:23.160 Nobody is following.
00:03:24.080 He's just going for a walk.
00:03:25.360 All over Asia and Iraq, they're building coal-fired generators
00:03:29.220 while Iraq, Brazil, Iran and Norway are set to exceed Canada as oil producers.
00:03:35.280 So cutting Canadian emissions changes nothing now,
00:03:39.020 but it makes food more expensive in the future.
00:03:42.320 You are already paying more.
00:03:44.340 No wonder the TD Bank reports that our standard of living is falling.
00:03:48.600 Rising energy prices will just make it lower yet.
00:03:51.760 Thanks a lot, Mr. Trudeau.
00:03:52.960 When you asked for our votes, you didn't tell us you wanted us to pay $10 a pound for hamburger
00:03:58.200 and $8 for a pound of butter to pump your ego.
00:04:02.240 The next election can't come like enough.
