Summary

Let's talk about methane emissions in the energy sector, and why Canada should stop trying to regulate Alberta's energy sector. Alberta's methane emissions are the highest in the world, and the rest of the world is taking lessons from Alberta's efforts to reduce them.

00:00:00.240 Our Premier is exactly right in her statement on Guibo's unconstitutional proposed methane
00:00:06.080 emissions regulations. The Feds don't know this file at all, and grandstanding at COP
00:00:12.240 doesn't do anything to help global emissions. Attacking Alberta industries won't reduce emissions
00:00:17.920 in the countries that are releasing the most CO2 and the most methane. Attacking on $15 billion
00:00:24.080 in costs to Canada's energy industry will not have any measurable impact on global emissions.
00:00:30.880 Indeed, the federal government's own regulatory impact statement admits that Canada's energy
00:00:37.120 industry makes up less than half of Canada's methane emissions. So instead of attacking Alberta's
00:00:43.840 energy industry, Trudeau and Guibo should get out of our way and let us export LNG to Asia and help
00:00:50.160 them get off of burning thermal coal. When the US switched from making electricity with coal to
00:00:55.360 making electricity with methane, it actually reduced its overall emissions. That's what we should strive
00:01:01.200 for, reducing emissions. Imagine if we could get China and India and Japan to do the same thing.
00:01:08.640 Japan wants to buy our LNG? Trudeau said no. Japan wants to buy our hydrogen, and Trudeau and Guibo's
00:01:15.920 government is standing in the way of the changes that will allow us to do that. The Supreme Court
00:01:21.680 has been very clear that Trudeau's government cannot act unilaterally in the energy space. They have no
00:01:28.480 authority. They have no ability to regulate this space. They should work with Alberta to do this right,
00:01:34.960 and to do it in a way that industry can get behind. Because let's be clear, Alberta is number one in the
00:01:40.320 world in reducing methane emissions. And industry cares about reducing methane emissions. That's why
00:01:46.880 we hit our 2025 goal two years early. Alberta does methane emissions reduction better than anywhere in
00:01:54.080 the world. The rest of the world is taking lessons from Alberta. Guibo and Trudeau should bud out and
00:02:00.720 leave this up to Alberta industry. Working with Alberta industry, this Alberta government will get the best
00:02:07.840 results. We don't need Guibo or Trudeau interfering in a space that they know nothing about.
