00:00:15.060 battlegrounds including right here in pennsylvania all still very much in play the amyc news
00:00:17.980 presidential debate starts right now the most consequential moment of this campaign kamala
00:00:22.400 harris together we will charge a new way forward donald trump we will soon be a great nation again
00:00:27.380 i thought it was live bro or now i'm live our bet the abc news presidential debate

00:00:36.500 good evening i'm david muir and thank you for joining us for tonight's abc news presidential
00:00:43.080 debate we want to welcome viewers watching on abc and around the world tonight vice president kamala
00:00:48.520 harris and president donald trump are just moments away from taking the stage in this unprecedented
00:00:52.960 race for president and i'm lindsey davis tonight's meeting could be the most consequential event of
00:00:57.900 their campaigns with election come on here's gonna lose voters i don't care chat for vice president
00:01:02.360 kamala harris this is her first debate since president biden withdrew from the race on july 21st
00:01:07.500 of course that decision followed his debate against president donald trump in june since then this race
00:01:12.800 has taken on an entirely new dynamic and that brings us to the rules of tonight's debate 90 minutes with
00:01:18.040 two commercial breaks no topics or questions have been shared with the campaigns the candidates
00:01:22.460 will have two minutes to answer questions and this is the clock that's what they'll be seeing two
00:01:26.700 minutes for rebuttals and one minute for follow-ups clarifications or responses their microphones will
00:01:32.100 only be turned on when it's their turn to speak there is no audience here tonight in this hall at the
00:01:38.500 national constitution center this is an intimate setting for two candidates who have never met president
00:01:43.900 trump won the coin toss he chose to deliver the final closing statement of the evening vice
00:01:48.640 president harris podium to the right so let's now welcome the candidates to the stage vice president
00:01:53.820 kamala harris and president donald trump
00:01:56.240 i want to begin tonight with the issue that voters repeatedly say is their number one issue and that
00:02:21.840 is the economy and the cost of living in this country vice president harris you and president
00:02:26.380 trump were elected four years ago and your opponent on the stage here tonight often asks his supporters
00:02:31.640 are you better off than you were four years ago when it comes to the economy do you believe americans
00:02:37.000 are better off than they were four years ago so i was raised as a middle class kid and i am actually
00:02:44.540 the only person on this stage who has a plan that is about lifting up the middle class and working
00:02:49.680 people of america i believe in the ambition the aspirations the dreams of the american people
00:02:56.560 and that is why i imagine and have actually a plan to build what i call an opportunity economy
00:03:02.400 because here's the thing we know that we have a shortage of of homes and housing and the cost of
00:03:08.400 housing is too expensive for far too many people we know that young families need support to raise their
00:03:15.200 children and i intend on extending a tax cut for those families of six thousand dollars which is the
00:03:21.520 largest child tax credit that we have given in a long time so that those young families can afford to
00:03:27.440 buy a crib buy a car seat buy clothes for their children my passion one of them is small businesses i was
00:03:35.920 actually my mother raised my sister and me but there was a woman who helped raise us we call her our second
00:03:41.440 mother she was a small business owner i love our small businesses my plan is to give a 50 000
00:03:47.760 dollar tax deduction to start up small businesses knowing they are part of the backbone of america's
00:03:53.840 economy my opponent on the other hand his plan is to do what he has done before which is to provide a tax
00:04:00.880 cut for billionaires and big corporations which will result in five trillion dollars to america's deficit
00:04:08.000 my opponent has a plan that i call the trump's sales tax which would be a 20 percent tax on everyday goods
00:04:15.440 that you rely on to get through the month economists have said that that trump sales tax would actually
00:04:22.320 result for middle class families in about four thousand dollars more a year because of his policies and
00:04:30.160 his ideas about what should be the backs of middle class people paying for tax cuts for billionaires
00:04:38.400 president trump i'll give you two minutes first of all i have no sales tax that's an incorrect
00:04:42.800 statement she knows that we're doing tariffs on other countries other countries are going to finally
00:04:47.760 after 75 years pay us back for all that we've done for the world and the tariff will be substantial in
00:04:55.520 some cases i took in billions and billions of dollars as you know from china in fact they never took the
00:05:00.720 tariff off because it was so much money they can't it would totally destroy everything that they've set
00:05:05.760 out to do they're taking in billions of dollars from china and other places they've left the
00:05:10.000 tariffs on when i had it i had tariffs and yet i had no inflation look we've had a terrible economy
00:05:17.200 because inflation has which is really known as a country buster it breaks up countries we have
00:05:22.480 inflation like very few people have ever seen before probably the worst in our nation's history
00:05:28.400 we were at 21 percent but that's being generous because many things are 50 60 70 and 80 percent
00:05:34.160 higher than they were just a few years ago this has been a disaster for people for the middle class
00:05:39.520 but for every class on top of that we have millions of people pouring into our country from
00:05:45.360 prisons and jails from mental institutions and insane asylums and they're coming in and they're taking
00:05:52.080 jobs that are occupied right now by african americans and hispanics and also unions unions are going to
00:05:58.480 be affected very soon and you see what's happening you see what's happening with towns throughout the
00:06:02.960 united states you look at springfield ohio you look at aurora in colorado they are taking over the
00:06:10.000 towns they're taking over buildings they're going in violently these are the people that she and biden
00:06:17.040 led into our country and they're destroying our country they're dangerous they're at the highest
00:06:22.400 level of criminality and we have to get them out we have to get them out fast i created one of the
00:06:27.840 greatest economies in the history of our country i'll do it again and even better we are going to
00:06:33.360 get to immigration and border security during this he's cooking chat i would like to let vice president
00:06:38.080 harris respond on the economy here well i would love to let's talk about what donald trump left us
00:06:44.560 donald trump left us the worst unemployment since the great depression donald trump left us the worst
00:06:53.280 public health epidemic in a century donald trump left us the worst attack on our democracy since the civil
00:07:03.680 war and what we have done is clean up donald trump's mess what we have done and what i intend to do is
00:07:11.280 build on what we know are the aspirations and the hopes of the american people but i'm going to tell
00:07:15.680 you all in this debate tonight you're going to hear from the same old tired playbook a bunch of lies
00:07:22.480 grievances and name calling what you're going to hear tonight is a detailed and dangerous plan called
00:07:29.360 project 2025 that the former president intends on implementing if he were elected to get i believe
00:07:36.880 very strongly that the american people want a president who understands the importance of
00:07:42.880 bringing us together knowing we have so much more in common than what separates us and i pledge to you
00:07:48.160 to be a president for all americans president trump will give you a minute here to respond number one i
00:07:52.560 have nothing to do as you know and as she knows better than anyone i have nothing to do with project
00:07:57.040 2025 that's out there i haven't read it i don't want to read it purposely i'm not going to read it this
00:08:03.280 was a group of people that got together they came up with some ideas i guess some good some bad
00:08:08.000 but it makes no difference i have nothing to do everybody knows i'm an open book everybody knows
00:08:12.480 what i'm going to do cut taxes very substantially and create a great economy like i did before we had
00:08:18.320 the greatest economy we got hit with a pandemic and the pandemic was not since 1917 where 100 million
00:08:25.200 people died has there been anything like it we did a phenomenal job with the pandemic we handed them over
00:08:31.600 a country where the economy and where the stock market was higher than it was before the pandemic
00:08:37.280 came in nobody's ever seen anything like it we made ventilators for the entire world we got gowns
00:08:43.440 we got masks we did things that nobody thought possible and people give me credit for rebuilding
00:08:48.480 the military they give me credit for a lot of things but not enough credit for the great job we
00:08:52.960 did with the pandemic but the only jobs they got were bounce back jobs these were jobs bounce back and
00:08:58.640 it bounced back and it went to their benefit but i was the one that created them they know it and so
00:09:03.840 does everybody else vice president harris i'll let you respond so he's right donald trump has no plan for
00:09:10.000 you and when you look at his economic plan it's all about tax breaks for the richest people i am offering
00:09:17.600 what i describe as an opportunity economy and the best economists in our country if not the world
00:09:24.400 have reviewed our relative plans for the future of america what goldman sachs has said is that donald
00:09:31.680 trump's plan would make the economy worse mine would strengthen the economy what the wharton school has said
00:09:38.160 is donald trump's plan would actually explode the deficit 16 nobel laureates have described his economic
00:09:47.200 plan as something that would increase inflation and by the middle of next year would invite a recession
00:09:54.000 you just have to look at where we are and where we stand on the issues and i'd invite you to know
00:09:59.680 that donald trump actually has no plan for you because he is more interested in defending himself
00:10:05.840 than he is in looking out for you that's just a sound bite i went to the wharton school of finance and
00:10:13.200 many of those professors the top professors think my plan is a brilliant plan it's a great plan it's a plan
00:10:18.720 that's going to bring up our our worth our value as a country it's going to make people want to be
00:10:23.920 able to go and work and create jobs and create a lot of good solid money for our company for our country
00:10:31.280 and just to finish off she doesn't have a plan she copied biden's plan and it's like four sentences
00:10:39.840 like run spot run four sentences that are just oh we'll try and lower taxes she doesn't have a plan
00:10:46.800 take a look at her plan she doesn't have a plan mr president i do want to drill down on something you
00:10:51.520 both brought up uh the vice president brought up your tariffs you responded and let's drill down on this
00:10:56.560 because your plan is what she calls is essentially a national sales tax your proposal calls for
00:11:01.760 tariffs as you pointed out here on foreign imports across the board you recently said that you might
00:11:06.240 double your plan imposing tariffs up to 20 percent on goods coming into this country as you know many
00:11:11.680 economists say that with tariffs at that level costs are then passed on to the consumer vice president
00:11:16.800 harris has argued it'll mean higher prices on gas food clothing medication arguing it costs the
00:11:22.400 typical family nearly four thousand dollars a year do you believe americans can afford higher
00:11:27.520 prices because of tariffs they're not going to have higher prices what's going to have and who's
00:11:31.200 going to have higher prices is china and all of the countries that have been ripping us off for
00:11:36.240 years i charge i was the only president ever china was paying us hundreds of billions of dollars
00:11:42.800 and so were other countries and you know if she doesn't like them they should have gone out and
00:11:47.120 they should have immediately cut the tariffs but those tariffs are there three and a half years now
00:11:51.440 under their administration we are going to take in billions of dollars hundreds of billions of
00:11:58.000 dollars i had no inflation virtually no inflation they had the highest inflation perhaps in the
00:12:04.000 history of our country because i've never seen a worse period of time people can't go out and buy
00:12:08.720 cereal or bacon or eggs or anything else these the people of our country are absolutely dying with
00:12:16.080 what they've done they've destroyed the economy and all you have to do is look at a poll
00:12:20.640 the polls say 80 and 85 and even 90 percent that the trump economy was great that their economy was
00:12:27.840 terrible vice president harris know that though that's your response and you heard what the
00:12:31.120 president said there because the biden administration a number of the trump tariffs in place so how do you
00:12:36.400 respond well let's be clear that the trump administration resulted in a trade deficit one of the highest we've
00:12:43.280 ever seen in the history of america he invited trade wars you want to talk about his deal with china what
00:12:50.560 he ended up doing is under donald trump's presidency he ended up selling american chips to china to help
00:12:58.880 them improve and modernize their military basically sold us out when a policy about china should be in
00:13:07.280 making sure the united states of america wins the competition for the 21st century which means
00:13:12.880 focusing on the details of what that requires focusing on relationships with our allies focusing on
00:13:19.440 investing in american-based technology so that we win the race on ai on quantum computing focusing on what
00:13:27.040 we need to do to support america's workforce so that we don't end up having the on the short end of the
00:13:33.600 stick in terms of workers rights but what donald trump did let's talk about this with covid is he
00:13:40.640 actually thanked president xi for what he did during covid look at his tweet thank you president xi
00:13:47.920 exclamation point when we know that she was responsible for lacking and not giving us transparency
00:13:55.600 about the origins of covid president trump i'll let you respond first of all they bought their chips from
00:14:01.120 taiwan we hardly make chips anymore because of philosophies like they have and policies like
00:14:07.920 they have i don't say her because she has no policy everything that she believed three years ago and
00:14:13.520 four years ago is out the window she's going to my philosophy now in fact i was going to send her a
00:14:18.320 maga hat if she's going to my philosophy but if she ever got elected she'd change it and it will be the
00:14:25.280 end of our country she's a marxist everybody knows she's a marxist her father's a marxist
00:14:30.560 professor in economics and he taught her well but when you look at what she's done to our country
00:14:36.880 and when you look at these millions and millions of people that are pouring into our country monthly
00:14:42.160 where it's i believe 21 million people not the 15 that people say and i think it's a lot higher than
00:14:47.520 the 21 that's bigger than new york state pouring in and just look at what they're doing to our country
00:14:53.600 they're criminals many of these people coming in are criminals and that's bad for our economy too you
00:14:58.800 you know you mentioned before we'll talk about immigration later well bad immigration is the
00:15:02.720 worst thing that can happen to our economy they have and she has destroyed our country with policy
00:15:10.960 that's insane almost policy that you'd say they have to hate our country president trump thank you
00:15:16.640 lindsey i want to turn to the issue of abortion president trump you've often told you were able to kill
00:15:22.240 roe v wade last year you said that you were proud to be the most pro-life president in american
00:15:28.320 history then last month you said that your administration would be great for women and
00:15:32.720 their reproductive rights in your home state of florida you surprised many with regard to your
00:15:37.760 six-week abortion ban because you initially had said that it was too short and you said quote
00:15:42.240 i'm going to be voting that we need more than six weeks but then the very next day you reverse course
00:15:48.240 and said you would vote to support the six-week ban vice president harris says that women shouldn't
00:15:53.280 trust you on the issue of abortion because you've changed your position so many times therefore
00:15:59.600 why should they trust you well the reason i'm doing that vote is because the plan is you know the vote
00:16:04.720 is they have abortion in the ninth month they even have and you can look at the governor of west
00:16:10.960 virginia the previous governor of west virginia not the current governor is doing an excellent job
00:16:16.000 but the governor before he said the baby will be born and we will decide what to do with the baby in
00:16:22.000 other words we'll execute the baby and that's why i did that because that predominates because
00:16:27.200 they're radical the democrats are radical in that and her vice presidential pick which i think was a
00:16:33.280 horrible pick by the way for our country because he is really out of it but her vice presidential pick
00:16:39.040 says abortion in the ninth month is absolutely fine he also says execution after birth it's execution
00:16:46.960 no longer abortion because the baby is born is okay and that's not okay with me hence the vote but
00:16:53.440 what i did is something for 52 years they've been trying to get roe v wade into the states and through the
00:17:02.880 genius and and heart and strength of six supreme court justices we were able to do that now i believe in
00:17:11.280 the exceptions for rape incest and life of the mother i believe strongly in it ronald reagan did
00:17:16.880 also 85 of republicans do exceptions very important but we were able to get it and now states are voting
00:17:25.040 on it and for the first time you're going to see look this is an issue that's torn our country apart
00:17:31.360 for 52 years every legal scholar every democrat every republican liberal conservative they all wanted this
00:17:39.920 issue to be brought back to the states where the people could vote and that's what happened happened
00:17:44.640 now ohio the vote was somewhat liberal kansas the vote was somewhat liberal much more liberal than people
00:17:51.600 would have thought but each individual state is voting it's the vote of the people now it's not tied
00:17:57.760 up in the federal government i did a great service in doing it it took courage to do it and the supreme
00:18:02.720 court had great courage in doing it and i give tremendous credit to those six justices there is no
00:18:08.640 state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born madam vice president want to
00:18:13.440 get your response to president trump well as i said you're going to hear a bunch of lies and that's not
00:18:18.160 actually a surprising fact let's understand how we got here donald trump hand selected three members of
00:18:26.320 the united states supreme court with the intention that they would undo the protections of roe v wade
00:18:31.920 and they did exactly as he intended and now in over 20 states there are trump abortion
00:18:38.640 bans which make it criminal for a doctor or nurse to provide health care in one state it provides
00:18:46.720 prison for life trump abortion bans that make no exception even for rape and incest which understand what
00:18:53.680 that means a survivor of a crime of violation to their body does not have the right to make a decision about
00:19:00.960 what happens to their body next that is immoral and one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held
00:19:09.760 beliefs to agree the government and donald trump certainly should not be telling a woman what to do
00:19:16.720 with her body i have talked with women around our country you want to talk about this is what people
00:19:23.440 wanted she's so pregnant women who want to carry a pregnancy to term suffering from a miscarriage being
00:19:30.240 denied care in an emergency room because the health care providers are afraid they might go to jail and
00:19:36.160 she's bleeding out in a car in the parking lot she didn't want that her husband didn't want that a 12 or 13
00:19:43.520 year old survivor of incest being forced to carry a pregnancy to term they don't want that he just said he's
00:19:51.440 and i pledge to you when congress passes a bill to put back in place the protections of roe v wade
00:19:58.720 as president of the united states i will proudly sign it in to law but understand if donald trump
00:20:06.400 were to be re-elected he will sign a national abortion ban understand in his project 2025 there would be a
00:20:13.200 national abortion a monitor that would be monitoring your pregnancies your miscarriages i think the american
00:20:19.840 people believe that certain freedoms in particular the freedom to make decisions about one's own body
00:20:27.600 should not be made by the government thank you vice president harris well there she goes again
00:20:32.640 it's a lie i'm not signing a ban and there's no reason to sign a better because we've gotten what
00:20:38.560 everybody wanted democrats republicans and everybody else and every legal scholar wanted it to be brought
00:20:46.000 back into the states and the states are voting and it may take a little time but for 52 years this
00:20:52.480 issue has torn our country apart and they've wanted it back in the states and i did something that nobody
00:20:59.680 thought was possible the states are now voting what she says is an absolute lie and as far as the abortion
00:21:07.360 ban no i'm not in favor of abortion ban but it doesn't matter because this issue has now been taken over
00:21:14.000 by the states would you veto a national abortion ban if well i won't have to because again two things
00:21:19.840 number one she said she'll go back to congress she'll never get the vote there's impossible for
00:21:23.600 her to get the vote especially now with the 50 50 and essentially 50 50 in both senate and the house
00:21:30.800 she's not going to get the vote she can't get the vote she won't even come close to it so it's just
00:21:34.560 talk you know what it reminds me of when they said they're going to get student loans terminated
00:21:38.960 and it ended up being a total catastrophe the student loans and then her i think probably her
00:21:45.440 boss if you call him a boss he spends all his time on the beach but look her boss went out and said we'll
00:21:51.600 do it again we'll do it a different way he went out got rejected again by the supreme court so all these
00:21:56.960 students got taunted with this whole thing about this whole idea and how unfair that would have been
00:22:03.200 part of the reason they lost to the millions and millions of people that had to pay off their student
00:22:08.720 loans they didn't get it for free but they were saying it's the same way that they talked about
00:22:13.520 that that they talk about abortion but if i could just get a yes or no because you're running me jd
00:22:18.880 vance has said that you would veto if you did come to your desk well i didn't discuss it with jd in all
00:22:24.400 fairness uh jd and i i don't mind if he has a certain view but i think he's speaking for me but i really
00:22:30.880 didn't look we don't have to discuss it because she'd never be able to get it just like she couldn't get
00:22:37.040 student loans they couldn't get student loans they didn't even come close to getting student loans
00:22:40.720 they taunted young people and a lot of other people they can never get this approved so it doesn't
00:22:47.120 matter what she says about going to congress so wonderful let's go to congress do it but the fact
00:22:51.680 is that for years they wanted to get it out of congress and out of the federal government and we did
00:22:56.320 something that everybody said couldn't be done and now you have a vote of the people on abortion vice
00:23:02.000 president harris want to give you your time to respond but i do want to ask would you support
00:23:05.920 any restrictions on a woman's right to an abortion i absolutely support reinstating the protections of
00:23:11.680 roe v wade and as you rightly mentioned nowhere in america is a woman carrying a pregnancy to term
00:23:21.360 and and in asking for an abortion that is not happening it's insulting to the women of america and
00:23:28.080 understand what is happening under donald trump's abortion bans couples who pray and and and dream of
00:23:36.400 having a family are being denied ivf treatments what is happening in our country working people working
00:23:44.560 women who are working one or two jobs who can barely afford child care as it is have to travel to
00:23:52.960 another state to get on a plane sitting next to strangers to go and get the health care she needs
00:24:01.200 barely can afford to do it and what you are putting her through is unconscionable i can and the
00:24:08.080 people of america have not the majority of americans believe in a woman's right to make decisions about
00:24:13.840 her own body and that is why in every state where this issue has been on the ballot in red and blue states both
00:24:21.600 the people of america have voted for freedom vice president excuse me i have to respond another
00:24:27.040 lie it's another lie i have been a leader on ivf which which is fertilization the ivf i have been
00:24:34.320 a leader in fact when they got a very negative decision on ivf from the alabama courts i saw the
00:24:41.520 people of alabama and the legislature two days later voted it in i've been a leader on it they know that and
00:24:48.480 everybody else knows it i have been a leader on fertilization ivf and the other thing they
00:24:55.600 you should ask will she allow abortion in the eighth month ninth month seventh month come on
00:25:02.160 okay would you do that why don't you ask that question that's the problem because under roe
00:25:08.320 wade you could do abortions in the seventh month the eighth month the ninth month and probably after
00:25:15.360 birth just look at the governor former governor of virginia the governor of virginia said we put the
00:25:21.440 baby aside and then we determine what we want to do with the baby president trump thank you we're
00:25:25.600 going to turn now to immigration and border security we know it's an issue that's important
00:25:29.280 to republicans democrats voters across the board uh in this country vice president harris you were
00:25:34.640 tasked by president biden with getting to the root causes of migration from central america
00:25:39.360 we know that illegal border crossings reached a record high in the biden administration this
00:25:43.600 you're losing this one girl president biden tough new asylum restrictions we know the numbers since
00:25:48.320 then have dropped significantly but my question to you tonight is why did the administration wait
00:25:53.440 until six months before the election to act and would you have done anything differently from
00:25:58.080 president biden numbness so i'm the only person on this stage who has prosecuted transnational
00:26:03.360 criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns drugs and human beings and let me say that the
00:26:10.720 united states congress including some of the most conservative members of the united states senate okay
00:26:15.680 came up with a border security bill which i supported and that bill would have put 1500 more
00:26:23.200 border agents on the border to help those folks who are working there right now over time trying to
00:26:28.400 do their job it would have allowed us to stem the flow of fentanyl coming into the united states i know
00:26:35.840 there are so many families watching tonight who have been personally affected by the surge of fentanyl in
00:26:40.960 our country that bill would have put more resources to allow us to prosecute transnational criminal
00:26:47.440 organizations for trafficking in guns drugs and human beings but you know what happened to that bill
00:26:53.040 donald trump got on the phone called up some folks in congress and said kill the bill and you know why
00:26:59.200 because he'd prefer to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem and understand this comes
00:27:06.880 at a time where the people of our country actually need a leader who engages in solutions who actually
00:27:15.120 addresses the problems at hand but what we have in the former president is someone who would prefer to run
00:27:21.440 on a problem instead of fixing a problem and i'll tell you something he's going to talk about
00:27:25.520 immigration a lot tonight even when it's not the subject that is being raised and i'm going to
00:27:29.760 actually do something really unusual and i'm going to invite you to attend one of donald trump's rallies
00:27:34.960 because it's a really interesting thing to watch you will see during the course of his rallies
00:27:39.600 he talks about fictional characters like hannibal lecter he will talk about windmills cause cancer
00:27:45.600 and what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and
00:27:51.600 boredom that's actually and i will tell you the one thing you will not hear him talk about is you
00:27:56.480 you will not hear him talk about your needs your dreams and your need and your desires and i'll tell
00:28:01.840 you i believe you deserve a president who actually puts you first and i pledge to you that i will
00:28:07.680 vice president harris thank you after they perform i want to get your results like to respond they
00:28:12.560 all leave her shade kill that bill and successfully so that would have put thousands of additional
00:28:16.880 agents and all that's all bias here's when we respond to us to the rallies she said people start
00:28:21.520 leaving people don't go to her rallies there's no reason to go and the people that do go she's
00:28:26.400 bussing them in and paying them to be there showing them in a different light so she can't talk
00:28:33.040 about that people don't leave my rallies we have the biggest rallies the most incredible rallies in the
00:28:37.440 history of politics that's because people want to take their country back our country is being
00:28:42.960 lost we're a failing nation and it happened three and a half years ago and what what's going
00:28:49.280 on here you're going to end up in world war three just to go into another subject what they have done
00:28:54.400 to our country by allowing these millions and millions of people to come into our country and
00:28:59.680 look at what's happening to the towns all over the united states and a lot of towns don't want
00:29:04.240 to talk not going to be aurora or springfield a lot of towns don't want to talk about it because
00:29:08.560 they're so embarrassed by it in springfield they're eating the dogs the people that came in they're
00:29:15.200 eating the cats they're eating the pets of the people that live there and this is what's happening
00:29:23.600 in our country and it's a shame as far as rallies are concerned as far as the reason they go is they
00:29:30.880 like what i say they want to bring our country back they want to make america great against very
00:29:36.160 simple phrase make america great again she's destroying this country and if she becomes president
00:29:42.560 this country doesn't have a chance of success not only success will end up being venezuela on steroids
00:29:50.080 i just want to clarify here you bring up springfield uh ohio and abc news did reach out to the city
00:29:55.120 manager there he told us there have been no credible reports of specific claims of pets being harmed
00:30:00.400 injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community well i've seen people on
00:30:04.640 television my dog was taken and used for food so maybe he said that and maybe that's a good thing
00:30:12.640 to say for a city manager i'm not taking this from television but the people are telling you
00:30:16.240 saying the dog was eaten by the people that went there again the springfield city manager says there's
00:30:22.160 no evidence of that vice president harris i'll let you respond to the rest of what you've heard
00:30:25.280 you talk about extreme um bro does he like one or something bro this is i think one of the reasons
00:30:32.720 why in this election i actually have the endorsement of 200 republicans who have formally worked with
00:30:41.280 president bush mitt romney and john mccain including the endorsement of former vice president dick cheney
00:30:49.120 and congress member liz cheney and if you want to really know the inside track on who the former
00:30:57.120 president is if he didn't make it clear already just ask people who have worked with him his former
00:31:02.800 chief of staff of four star general has said he has contempt for the constitution of the united states
00:31:08.720 his former national security advisor has said he is dangerous and unfit his former secretary of
00:31:15.360 defense has said the nation the republic would never survive another trump term and when we listen
00:31:24.560 to this kind of rhetoric when the issues that affect the american people are not being addressed
00:31:31.280 i think the choice is clear in this election president trump will give you a quick minute to respond
00:31:36.720 thank you because when i hear that see i'm a different kind of a person i fired most of those people
00:31:42.960 not so graciously they did bad things or a bad job i fired them they never fired one person they didn't
00:31:49.920 fire anybody having to do with afghanistan and the taliban and the 13 people who's who's were just killed
00:31:56.880 viciously and violently killed and i got to know the parents and the family they didn't fire they should
00:32:02.160 have fired all those generals all those top people because that was one of the most incompetently
00:32:07.440 handled situations anybody has ever seen so when somebody does a bad job i fire him and you take
00:32:15.120 a guy like esper he was no good i fired him so he writes a book another one writes a book because with
00:32:20.080 me they can write books with nobody else can they but they have done such a poor job and they never fire
00:32:26.720 anybody look at the economy look how look at the inflation they didn't fire any of their economists
00:32:32.480 they have the same people that's a good way not to have books written about you but just to finish
00:32:38.320 i got more votes than any republican in history by far in fact i got more votes than any president
00:32:46.160 sitting president in history by far damn let me continue on immigration it was what you wanted to
00:32:52.240 talk about earlier so let's get back to your deportation uh proposal that the vice president has reacted to
00:32:58.480 as well president trump you call this the largest domestic deportation operation in the history of
00:33:03.360 our country you say you would use the national guard you say if things get out of control you'd have
00:33:07.200 no problem using the u.s military you also said you would use local police uh how would you uh
00:33:13.360 deport 11 million undocumented immigrants i know you you believe that number is much higher
00:33:18.640 take us through this what does this look like will authorities be going door to door in this country yeah
00:33:22.480 it is much higher because of them they allowed criminals many many millions of criminals they
00:33:29.840 allowed terrorists they allowed common street criminals they allowed people to come in drug
00:33:35.200 dealers to come into our country and they're now in the united states and told by their countries
00:33:41.040 like venezuela don't ever come back or we're going to kill you do you know the crime in venezuela and
00:33:47.440 crime in countries all over the world is way down you know why because they're all here taking their
00:33:53.120 criminals off the street and they've given them to her to put into our country and this will be one
00:33:58.960 of the greatest mistakes in history for them to allow and i think they probably did it because they
00:34:04.320 think they're going to get votes but it's not worth it because they're they're destroying the fabric of
00:34:09.920 our country by what they've done there's never been anything done like this at all they've destroyed the
00:34:15.600 fabric of our country millions of people let in and all over the world crime is down all over the
00:34:22.320 world except here crime here is up and through the roof despite their fraudulent statements that they
00:34:27.760 made crime in this country is through the roof and we have a new form of crime it's called migrant crime
00:34:33.680 and it's happening at levels that nobody thought possible president trump as you know the fbi says
00:34:38.160 overall violent crime is actually coming down in this country but excuse me the fbi defraud they
00:34:42.640 were defrauding statements they they didn't include the worst cities they didn't include the
00:34:48.000 cities with the worst crime it was a fraud just like their number of 818 000 jobs that they said
00:34:54.800 they created turned out to be a fraud president trump thank you i'll let you respond vice president
00:34:58.240 harris well i think this is so rich coming from someone who has been prosecuted dude for national
00:35:06.320 security crimes so should you and all your friends election interference oh my god have been found
00:35:12.560 liable ironic sexual assault and his next big court appearance is in november at his own criminal
00:35:19.520 sentencing and let's be clear where each person stands on the issue of what is important about
00:35:27.040 respect for the rule of law and respect for law enforcement the former vice president called for
00:35:32.880 defunding federal law enforcement 45 000 agents get this on the day after he was arraigned on 34 felony
00:35:42.080 counts so let's talk about what is important in this race it is important that we move forward that we
00:35:49.440 turn the page on this same old tired rhetoric and address the needs of the american people address what we
00:35:58.480 need to do about the housing shortage which i have a plan for address what we must do to support our
00:36:04.800 small businesses address bringing down the price of groceries but frankly the american people are
00:36:11.040 exhausted with this same old tired playbook vice president harris thank you excuse me every one of those
00:36:17.680 cases was started by them against their political opponent and i'm winning most of them and i will win the
00:36:23.680 arrest on appeal and you saw that with the decision that came down just recently from the supreme court
00:36:29.040 i'm winning most of them but those are cases it's called weaponization never happened in this country
00:36:34.800 they weaponized the justice department every one of those cases was involved with the doj from atlanta
00:36:41.360 and fawny willis to to the uh attorney general of new york and the da in new york every one of those
00:36:48.320 cases and then they say oh he was he's a criminal they're the ones that made them go after me by the
00:36:56.160 way joe biden was found essentially guilty on the documents case and what happened in my documents case
00:37:02.400 they said oh that's the toughest of them all a complete and total victory two months ago it was
00:37:08.000 thrown out it's weaponization and they used it and it's never happened in this country they used it
00:37:14.480 to try and win an election they're fake cases president trump thank you a really quick response
00:37:19.200 here vice president harris on this notion of weaponization of the justice department well
00:37:22.960 let's talk about extreme and understand the context in which this election in 2024 is taking place
00:37:28.960 the united states supreme court recently ruled that the former president would essentially be immune
00:37:35.760 from any misconduct if he were to enter the white house again understand this is someone who has
00:37:41.680 openly said he would terminate i'm quoting terminate the constitution of the united states
00:37:47.760 that he would weaponize the department of justice against his political enemies someone who has openly
00:37:55.680 expressed disdain for members of our military understand what it would mean if donald trump were back in
00:38:03.040 the white house with no guard rails because certainly we know now the court won't stop him we know jd
00:38:09.200 vance is not going to stop him it's up to the american people vice president thank you lindsey vice
00:38:15.120 president harris in your last run for president this is the one that weaponized not me she weaponized
00:38:22.400 i probably took a bullet to the head because of the things that they say about me they talk about
00:38:29.200 democracy i'm a threat to democracy they're the threat to democracy russia russia russia investigation
00:38:36.240 we do a lot that went nowhere we have a lot to get to lindsey vice president harris in your last run
00:38:40.560 for president you said you wanted to ban fracking now you don't you wanted mandatory government
00:38:45.440 buyback programs for assault weapons now your campaign says you don't you supported decriminalizing
00:38:50.800 border crossings now you're taking a harder line i know you say that your values have not changed so
00:38:56.640 then why have so many of your policy positions changed so my values have not changed and i'm going to
00:39:02.640 discuss every one of the at least every point that you've made but in particular let's talk about
00:39:06.960 fracking i made that very clear in 2020 i will not ban fracking i have not banned fracking as vice
00:39:14.160 president united states and in fact i was the tie-breaking vote on the inflation reduction act
00:39:20.000 which opened new leases for fracking my position is that we have got to invest in diverse sources of
00:39:29.120 energy so we reduce our reliance on foreign oil we have had the largest increase in domestic oil
00:39:37.760 production in history because of an approach that recognizes that we cannot over rely on foreign oil
00:39:45.120 as it relates to my values let me tell you i grew up a middle class kid raised by a hard-working mother
00:39:51.440 who worked and saved and was able to buy our first home when i was a teenager
00:39:56.240 the values i bring to the importance of home ownership knowing not everybody got handed
00:40:02.240 400 million dollars on a silver platter and then filed bankruptcy six times
00:40:06.960 is a value that i bring to my work to say we are going to work with the private sector and home
00:40:12.400 builders to increase three million three million three million homes by the end of my first term
00:40:18.400 my work that is related to having a friend when i was in high school who was sexually assaulted by her
00:40:24.240 stepfather and my focus then on protecting women and children from violent crime is based on a value
00:40:30.880 that is deeply grounded in the importance of standing up for those who are most vulnerable
00:40:36.480 my work that is about protecting social security and medicare is based on long-standing work that i have
00:40:42.640 done protecting seniors from scams my values have not changed and what is important is that there is a
00:40:50.880 president who actually brings values and a perspective that is about lifting people up and not beating
00:40:58.640 people down and name-calling the true measure of the leader oh my god dude leader who actually
00:41:06.480 understands the strength is not in beating people down it's in lifting people up i intend to be that
00:41:12.720 president president trump well first of all i wasn't given 400 million dollars i wish i was my father was a
00:41:18.400 brooklyn builder brooklyn queens and a great father and i learned a lot from him but i was given a
00:41:23.120 fraction of that a tiny fraction and i built it into many many billions of dollars many many billions
00:41:29.440 when people see it they are even surprised so we don't have to talk about that fracking she's been
00:41:34.960 against it for 12 years defund the police she's been against that forever she gave all that stuff up
00:41:43.120 very wrongly very horribly and everybody's laughing at it okay they're all laughing at it she gave up at
00:41:49.840 least 12 and probably 14 or 15 different policies like she was big on defund the police in minnesota
00:41:56.880 she went out wait a minute i'm talking now yo does that sound familiar yo she went out
00:42:05.680 she went out in minnesota and wanted to let criminals that killed people that burned down
00:42:13.440 minneapolis she went out and raised money to get them out of jail she did things that nobody would
00:42:18.880 ever think of now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison
00:42:25.360 this is a radical left liberal that would do this she wants to confiscate your guns and she will never
00:42:32.160 allow fracking in pennsylvania if she won the election fracking in pennsylvania will end on day
00:42:38.320 one just to finish one thing so important in my opinion so i got the oil business going like nobody
00:42:45.040 has ever done before they took when they took over they got rid of it started getting rid of it and the
00:42:51.360 prices were going up the roof they immediately let these guys go to where they were i would have been
00:42:59.280 five times four times five times higher because you're talking about three and a half years ago
00:43:04.800 they got it up to where i was because they had no choice because the prices of energy would
00:43:10.400 were quadrupling and doubling you saw what happened to gasoline so they said let's go back to trump
00:43:15.600 but if she won the election the day after that election they'll go back to destroying our country
00:43:20.800 and oil will be dead fossil fuel will be dead we'll go back to windmills and we'll go back to
00:43:25.520 solar where they need a whole desert to get some energy to come out you ever see a solar plant by
00:43:30.800 the way i'm a big fan of solar but they take four hundred five hundred acres of desert
00:43:37.920 these are not good things for the environment thank you lindsey thank you we have an election in just 56
00:43:44.800 days and i want to talk about the peaceful transfer of power which of course we all know is a cornerstone
00:43:49.920 of our democracy and the role of a president in a moment of crisis mr president on january 6th you
00:43:55.760 told your supporters to march to the capitol you said you would be right there with them bro the
00:43:59.680 country and the world saw what played out of the capitol that day the officers coming under attack
00:44:04.480 aids in the west wing say you watched it unfold on television off the oval office you did send out
00:44:09.440 tweets but it was more than two hours before you sent out that video message telling your supporters to
00:44:14.320 go home is there anything you regret about what you did on that day you just said a thing that isn't
00:44:21.760 covered peacefully and patriotically i said during my speech not later on peacefully and patriotically
00:44:30.160 and nobody on the other side was killed ashley babbitt was shot by an out-of-control police officer
00:44:36.880 that should have never ever shot her it's a disgrace but we didn't do this group of people
00:44:43.760 that have been treated so badly i ask what about all the people that are pouring into our country
00:44:49.040 and killing people that she allowed to put in she was the borders are remember that she was the borders
00:44:54.240 are she doesn't want to be called the borders are because she's embarrassed by the border in fact she
00:44:58.080 said at the beginning well i'm surprised you're not talking about the border yet that's because she
00:45:02.640 knows what a bad job they've done what about those people what's what are they going to be prosecuted
00:45:08.080 when are these people from countries all over the world not just south america
00:45:12.320 they're coming in from all over the world david all over the world and crime rates are down all
00:45:19.120 over the world because of it but let me just one of those david when are those people going to be
00:45:23.120 prosecuted when are the people that burned down minneapolis going to be prosecuted or in seattle
00:45:28.480 they went into seattle they took over a big percentage of the city of seattle when are those
00:45:32.960 people going to be prosecuted but let me just ask you might ask her that question you were the president
00:45:37.600 you were watching it unfold on television it's a very simple question as we move forward toward
00:45:41.520 another election is there anything you regret about what you did on that day yes i had nothing
00:45:47.520 to do with that other than they asked me to make a speech i showed up for a speech i said i think it's
00:45:52.320 going to be big i went to nancy pelosi and the mayor of washington dc and the mayor put it back in
00:45:58.880 writing as you know i said you know this is going to be a very big rally or whatever you want to call
00:46:04.720 it and again it wasn't done by me it was done by others i said i'd like to give you 10 000 national
00:46:10.880 guard or soldiers they rejected me nancy pelosi rejected me it was just two weeks ago her daughter
00:46:17.440 has a tape of her saying she is fully responsible for what happened they want to get rid of that tape
00:46:23.040 it's true it would have never happened if nancy pelosi and the mayor of washington did their jobs
00:46:28.320 i wasn't responsible for security nancy pelosi was responsible she didn't do her job the question
00:46:34.400 was about you as president not about former speaker pelosi but i do want vice president harris to respond
00:46:38.880 here i was at the capitol on january 6th i was the vice president elect i was also an acting senator i was
00:46:48.080 there and on that day the president of the united states incited a violent mob to attack our nation's
00:46:57.680 capital to desecrate our nation's capital on that day 140 law enforcement officers were injured
00:47:06.240 and some died and understand the former president has been indicted and impeached for exactly that
00:47:14.800 reason but this is not an isolated situation let's remember charlottesville where there was a mob of
00:47:23.760 people carrying tiki torches spewing anti-semitic hate and what did the president then at the time say
00:47:33.600 there were fine people on each side let's remember that when it came to the proud boys a militia
00:47:40.560 the president said the former president said stand back and stand by so for everyone watching who
00:47:48.720 remembers what january 6th was i say we don't have to go back let's not go back we're not going back
00:47:57.680 it's time to turn the page and if that was a bridge too far for you well there is a place
00:48:04.320 in our campaign for you to stand for country to stand for our democracy to stand for rule of law
00:48:14.720 and to end the chaos and to end the approach that is about attacking the foundations of our democracy
00:48:23.680 because you don't like the outcome and be clear on that point donald trump the candidate has said in
00:48:30.640 this election there will be a bloodbath if this and the outcome of this election is not to his
00:48:36.320 liking gee this is so bad dude let's turn the page on this let's not go back let's chart a course for
00:48:43.360 the future she's so stupid girl i'm not even joking to the past she's probably just bad as biden
00:48:49.280 it was a different it was a term that related to energy because they have destroyed our energy
00:48:54.880 business that was where bloodbath was also on charlottesville that story has been as you would
00:49:00.160 say debunked laura ingram sean hannity jesse all of these people they covered it if they go an extra
00:49:08.480 sentence they will see it was perfect it was debunked in almost every newspaper but they still bring it
00:49:14.240 up just like they bring 2025 up they bring all of this stuff up i ask you this you talk about the
00:49:20.080 capitol why are we allowing these millions of people to come through on the southern border how come
00:49:26.240 she's not doing anything and i'll tell you what i would do and i would be very proud to do it i would
00:49:31.040 say we would both leave this debate right now i'd like to see her go down to washington dc during this
00:49:38.160 debate because we're wasting a lot of time go down to because she's been so bad it's so ridiculous go
00:49:43.680 down to washington dc and let her sign a bill to close up the border because they have the right to
00:49:49.520 do it they don't need bills they have the right to do the president of the united states you'll get them
00:49:54.160 out of bed you'll wake them up at four o'clock in the afternoon you'll say come on come on down
00:49:58.320 to the office let's sign a bill if he if he signs a bill that the border is closed all he has to do
00:50:04.080 is say it to the border patrol who are phenomenal if they do that the border is closed those people
00:50:09.840 are killing many people unlike j6 we talked immigration here tonight i do want to focus on
00:50:15.200 this next issue to both of you because it really brings us uh this into the war in these times that
00:50:20.080 we're living in uh mr president for three and a half years after you lost the 2020 election you
00:50:25.040 repeatedly falsely claimed that you won many times saying you won in a landslide in the past couple
00:50:30.720 of weeks leading up to this debate uh you have said quote you lost by a whisker that you quote didn't
00:50:35.920 quite make it that you came up a little bit short i said that are you now acknowledging that you lost in
00:50:41.520 2020 no i don't acknowledge that at all i said that sarcastically you know that it was said oh
00:50:45.840 we lost by a whisker that was said sarcastically look there's so much all you have to do is look at
00:50:52.240 it and they should have sent it back to the legislatures for approval i got almost 75 million
00:50:57.520 votes the most votes any sitting president has ever gotten i was told if i got 63 which was what i got in
00:51:03.040 2016 you can't be beaten the election people should never be thinking about an election is fraudulent we
00:51:10.080 need two things we need walls we need and we have to have it we have to have borders and we have to
00:51:15.840 have good elections our elections are bad and a lot of these illegal immigrants coming in they're trying
00:51:22.000 to get them to vote they can't even speak english they don't even know what country they're in
00:51:25.920 practically and these people are trying to get them to vote and that's why they're allowing them to
00:51:30.880 come into our country i did watch all of these pieces of video i didn't detect the sarcasm lost by
00:51:36.400 a whisker we didn't quite make it and we should just point out here as clarification and you
00:51:40.000 know this you and your allies 60 cases in front of many judges many of them no judge looked at it
00:51:44.960 and said they said we didn't have standing that's the other thing they said we didn't have standing
00:51:49.920 a technicality can you imagine a system where a person in an election doesn't have standing the
00:51:55.840 president of the united states doesn't have standing that's how we lost if you look at the
00:52:01.360 facts and i'd love to have you do a special on it i'll show you georgia and i'll show you wisconsin
00:52:07.600 and i'll show you pennsylvania and i'll show we have so many facts and statistics but you know
00:52:12.880 what that doesn't matter because we have to solve the problem that we have right now that's old news
00:52:18.160 and the problem that we have right now is we have a nation in decline and they have put it into
00:52:24.560 decline we have a nation that is dying david mr president thank you uh vice president harris you
00:52:30.880 heard the president there tonight he said he didn't say that that he lost by whisker so he still uh believes
00:52:35.440 he did not lose the election uh by president by holy but i do want to ask you about something
00:52:42.640 that harris thank you we've heard from both of you on ukraine tonight afghanistan came up in the last
00:52:47.120 hour i i wanted her to respond to something you said earlier and now please i'll give you a minute
00:52:52.240 here putin would be sitting in moscow and he wouldn't have lost 300 000 men and women but he would
00:52:59.920 have been sitting in moscow quiet please he would have been sitting in moscow much happier than he is
00:53:06.880 right now but eventually you know he's got a thing that other people don't have he's got nuclear weapons
00:53:12.320 they don't ever talk about that he got nuclear weapons nobody ever thinks about that and eventually
00:53:18.320 maybe he'll use them and maybe hasn't been that threatening but he does have that something we don't
00:53:24.160 even like to talk about nobody likes to talk about it but just so you understand they sent her to
00:53:29.680 negotiate peace before this war started three days later he went in and he started the war because
00:53:36.320 everything they said was weak and stupid they said the wrong things that war should have never started
00:53:42.800 she was the emissary they sent her in to negotiate with zelinski and putin and she did and the war
00:53:50.560 started three days later and that's the kind of talent we have with her she's worse than biden in
00:53:56.000 my opinion i think he's the worst president in the history of our country she goes down as the worst
00:54:01.120 vice president in the history of our country but let me tell you something she is a horrible
00:54:06.000 negotiator they sent her in to negotiate as soon as they left to putin did the invasion president
00:54:12.400 trump thank you you did bring up something you said she went to negotiate with vladimir putin
00:54:15.760 vice president harris have you ever met vladimir putin can you clarify tonight
00:54:19.040 yet again i said at the beginning of this debate you're gonna hear a bunch of lies coming
00:54:22.720 bro she sounds drunk dude that is another one when i went to meet with president zelinski i've now met
00:54:28.320 with him over five times the reality is it has been about standing as america always should
00:54:36.000 as a leader upholding international rules and norms as a leader who shows strength understanding that
00:54:44.240 the alliances we have around the world are dependent on our ability to look out for our friends and not
00:54:52.560 favor our enemies because you adore strong men instead of caring about democracy and that is very much
00:55:01.280 what is at stake here the president of the united states is commander in chief and the american people
00:55:07.760 have a right to rely on a president who understands the significance of america's role and responsibility
00:55:17.200 in terms of ensuring that there is stability and ensuring we stand up for our principles and not
00:55:23.280 sell them for the for the benefit of personal flattery we've talked about ukraine and vladimir putin
00:55:30.080 i do want to talk about afghanistan it came up in in the first hour of this debate i i want to move
00:55:35.200 on to afghanistan said trump did the most amazing thing i've ever seen he got these countries the 28
00:55:41.760 countries at the time to pay up he said i've never seen he's the head of nato he said i've never seen
00:55:47.920 for years we were paying almost all of nato we were being ripped off by european nations both on trade
00:55:54.400 and on nato i got them to pay up by saying one of the statements you made before if you don't pay
00:56:00.800 we're not going to protect you otherwise we would have never gotten it he said it was one of the
00:56:04.640 most incredible jobs that he's ever seen done thank you i want to turn to afghanistan it came
00:56:09.600 up in the first hour of the debate and we witnessed a poignant moment today on capitol hill honoring
00:56:13.920 the soldiers who died in the chaotic withdrawal from afghanistan i do want to ask the vice president
00:56:19.280 do you believe you bear any responsibility in the way that withdrawal played out
00:56:24.400 well i will tell you i agreed with president biden's decision to pull out of afghanistan four
00:56:30.080 presidents said they would and joe biden did and as a result america's taxpayers are not paying the
00:56:37.120 300 million dollars a day we were paying for that endless war and as of today there is not one member
00:56:44.880 of the united states military who is in active duty in a combat zone in any war zone around the world the
00:56:52.000 first time this century but let's understand how we got to where we are donald trump when he was president
00:56:58.720 of afghanistan negotiated one of the weakest deals you can imagine he calls himself a deal maker even
00:57:05.360 his national security advisor said it was a weak terrible deal and here's how it went down
00:57:11.600 he bypassed the afghan government he negotiated directly with a terrorist organization called the
00:57:17.840 taliban the negotiation involved the taliban getting 5 000 terrorists taliban terrorists released and get
00:57:25.600 this no get this why and the president at the time invited the taliban to camp david a place of storied
00:57:35.840 significance for us as americans a place where we honor the importance of american diplomacy where we
00:57:42.800 invite and receive respected world leaders and this former president as president invited them
00:57:54.320 to camp david because he does not again appreciate the role and responsibility of the president of the united
00:58:04.000 states to be commander-in-chief with a level of respect and this gets back to the point of how he has
00:58:10.880 consistently disparaged and demeaned members of our military fallen soldiers and the work that we must do to
00:58:18.480 uphold the strength and the respect of the united states of america around the world vice president
00:58:24.720 harris thank you president trump your response to her saying that you began the negotiations with the
00:58:28.560 taliban so if you take a look at that period of time the taliban was killing our soldiers a lot of them
00:58:37.440 with snipers and i got involved with the taliban because the taliban was doing the killing that's the
00:58:44.240 fighting force within afghanistan they don't bother doing that because you know they deal with the
00:58:48.000 wrong people all the time but i got involved and abdul is the head of the taliban he is still the head
00:58:55.120 of the taliban and i told abdul don't do it anymore you do it anymore you're gonna have problems and he said
00:59:01.360 why do you send me a picture of my house i said you're gonna have to figure that out and for 18 months
00:59:07.200 we had nobody killed we did have an agreement negotiated by mike pompeo it was a very good
00:59:12.480 agreement the reason it was good it was we were getting out we would have been out faster than
00:59:17.760 them but we wouldn't have lost the soldiers we wouldn't have left many americans behind and we
00:59:22.080 wouldn't have left we wouldn't have left 85 billion dollars worth of brand new beautiful military equipment
00:59:28.640 behind and just to finish they blew it the agreement said you have to do this this this this this and they
00:59:36.960 didn't do it they didn't do it the agreement was was terminated by us because they didn't do what
00:59:44.960 they were supposed to do i want to move and these people did the worst withdrawal and in my opinion
00:59:51.120 the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country and by the way that's why russia attacked
00:59:56.640 ukraine because they saw how incompetent she and her boss are president trump thank you
01:00:03.040 i want to move on now to race and politics in this country mr president you recently said a
01:00:07.120 vice president harris quote i didn't know she was black until a number of years ago when she
01:00:11.680 happened to turn black and now she wants to be black i want to ask a bigger picture here tonight
01:00:18.640 it's appropriate to weigh in on the racial identity of your opponent i don't and i don't care
01:00:23.760 i don't care what she is i don't care uh you make a big deal out of something i couldn't care less
01:00:30.320 whatever she wants to be is okay with me but those were your words so i don't know i don't know i mean
01:00:35.040 all i can say is i read where she was not black that she put out and i'll say that and then i read
01:00:43.520 that she was black and that's okay either one was okay with me that's up to her that's up to her
01:00:49.120 vice president harris your thoughts on this i think it's i mean honestly i think it's a tragedy that we
01:00:56.560 have um someone who wants to be president who has consistently over the course of his career
01:01:04.800 attempted to use race to divide the american people you are not black you just came black
01:01:09.440 majority of us for voters much more in common than what separates us and we don't want oh my god
01:01:14.400 this kind of approach that is just constantly trying to divide us and especially by race and
01:01:19.680 let's remember dude how donald trump started he was a a land he owned land he owned buildings and he
01:01:30.000 he was investigated because he refused to rent property to black families let's remember this
01:01:38.080 is the same individual who took out a full page ad in the new york times calling for the execution
01:01:45.360 of five young black and latino boys who were innocent the central park five
01:01:54.960 took out a full page ad calling for their execution this is the same individual who spread
01:02:01.600 birther lies about the first black president of the united states and i think the american people
01:02:07.760 want better than that want better than this want someone who understands as i do i travel our country
01:02:17.920 we see in each other a friend we see in each other a neighbor we don't want a leader who is constantly
01:02:26.720 trying to have americans point their fingers at each other i meet with people all the time
01:02:32.560 who tell me can we please just have discourse about how we're going to invest in the aspirations and
01:02:40.880 the ambitions and the dreams of the american people knowing that regardless of people's color or the
01:02:47.280 language their grandmother speaks we all have the same dreams and aspirations and want a president
01:02:52.800 who invest in those not in hate and division vice president harris thank you this is now your third time
01:03:00.320 this is the most divisive presidency in the history of our country there's never been anything like
01:03:08.240 it they're destroying our country and they come up with things like what she just said going back
01:03:15.520 many many years when a lot of people including mayor bloomberg agreed with me on the central park five
01:03:20.720 they admitted they said they pled guilty and i said well if they pled guilty they badly hurt a person
01:03:27.760 killed a person ultimately and if they pled guilty then they pled we're not guilty but this is a
01:03:34.000 person that has to stretch back years 40 50 years ago because there's nothing now i built one of the
01:03:41.440 greatest economies in the history of the world and i'm going to build it again it's going to be bigger
01:03:46.640 better and stronger but they're destroying our economy they have no idea what a good economy is
01:03:52.720 their oil policies every single policy and remember this she is biden you know she's trying to get
01:03:59.440 away from biden i don't know the gentleman she says she is biden the worst inflation we've ever had
01:04:06.480 a horrible economy because inflation has made it so bad and she can't get away with that thank you
01:04:12.720 your time is up briefly clearly i am not joe biden and i am certainly not donald trump and what i do
01:04:23.680 offer is a new generation of leadership for our country dude he's so one who believes so cringe in
01:04:29.280 what is possible one who brings a sense of optimism about what we can do instead of always disparaging
01:04:36.960 the american people i believe in what we can do to strengthen our small businesses which is why i have
01:04:45.680 a plan let's talk about our plans and and let's compare the plans i have a plan to give startup
01:04:54.000 businesses fifty thousand dollar tax deduction to pursue their ambitions their innovation their ideas
01:05:02.400 their hard work i have a plan six thousand dollars for young families for the first year of your
01:05:08.560 child's life to help you in that most critical stage of your child's development i have a plan
01:05:15.040 that is about allowing people to be able to pursue what has been fleeting in terms of the american dream
01:05:21.680 by offering a help with down payment of twenty five thousand dollar down payment assistance for first
01:05:27.920 time home buyers that's the kind of conversation i believe david that people really want tonight
01:05:34.400 as opposed to a conversation that is constantly about belittling and name calling let's turn the
01:05:41.760 page vice president harris thank you let's turn to policy let's turn we have to move on president trump
01:05:47.440 let's turn to policy please plan to defund the police she has a flat plan to confiscate everybody's
01:05:54.560 gun president she has a plan to not allow fracking in pennsylvania or anywhere else okay that's what
01:06:00.720 her plan is until just recently the former president has said something twice that i need to respond
01:06:07.280 i'm sorry we're going to we're going to move on vice president president trump this is now your third
01:06:12.240 time running for president you have long vowed to repeal and replace the affordable care act
01:06:17.200 also known as obamacare you have failed to accomplish that you now say you're going to keep obamacare quote
01:06:23.120 unless we can do something much better last month you said quote we're working on it so tonight nine
01:06:29.120 years after you first started running do you have a plan and can you tell us what it is obamacare was
01:06:34.640 lousy health care always was it's not very good today and what i said that if we come up with something
01:06:41.200 and we are working on things we're going to do it and we're going to replace it but remember this i
01:06:46.320 inherited obamacare because democrats wouldn't change it they wouldn't vote for it they were unanimous they
01:06:52.400 wouldn't vote to change it if they would have done that we would have had a much better plan than
01:06:56.960 obamacare but the democrats came up they wouldn't vote for it i had a choice to make when i was
01:07:02.720 president do i save it and make it as good as it can be never going to be great or do i let it rot
01:07:09.760 and i felt i had an obligation even though politically it would have been good to just let
01:07:13.920 it rot and let it go away i decided and i told my people the top people and they're very good people i
01:07:19.840 have a lot of good people in this that administration we read about the bad ones we had some real bad
01:07:24.800 ones too and so do they they have really bad ones the difference is they don't get rid of them but
01:07:28.400 let me just explain i had a choice to make do i save it and make it as good as it can be or do i let it
01:07:35.520 rot and i saved it i did the right thing but it's still never going to be great and it's too expensive
01:07:42.560 for people and what we will do is we're looking at different plans if we can come up with a plan that's
01:07:48.800 going to cost our people our population less money and be better health care than obamacare
01:07:55.440 then i would absolutely do it but until then i'd run it as good as it can be run so just a yes or no
01:08:01.600 you still do not have a plan i have concepts of a plan i'm not president right now but if
01:08:08.880 we come up with something i would only change it if we come up with something that's better and less
01:08:13.520 expensive and there are concepts and options we we have to do that and you'll be hearing about it
01:08:20.080 in the not too distant future vice president harrison 2017 you supported bernie sanders proposal to do
01:08:25.760 away with private insurance and create a government-run health care system two years later you proposed a
01:08:30.640 plan that included a private insurance option what is your plan today well first of all i absolutely
01:08:37.200 support and over the last four years as vice president private health care options but what we need to
01:08:42.240 do is maintain and grow the affordable care act but i i'll get to that lindsay i just need to respond
01:08:46.640 to a previous point that the former president has made i've made very clear my position on fracking
01:08:52.240 and then this business about taking everyone's guns away tim walls and i are both gun owners we're not
01:08:57.200 taking anybody's guns away so stop with the continuous lying about this stuff as it relates to the
01:09:02.640 affordable care act understand let's just look at the history to know where people stand when donald trump
01:09:08.240 was president sixty times he tried to get rid of the affordable care act sixty times i was a senator
01:09:15.760 at the time when i will never forget the early morning hours when it was up for a vote in the united states
01:09:23.280 senate and the late great john mccain who you have disparaged as being a you don't like him you said at the time
01:09:33.680 because he got caught he was an american hero the late great john mccain i will never forget that night
01:09:40.320 walked onto the senate floor and said no you don't no you don't no you don't get rid of the affordable
01:09:47.520 care act you have no plan and what the affordable care act has done is eliminate the ability of
01:09:53.840 insurance companies to deny people with pre-existing conditions i don't have to tell the people watching
01:09:58.560 tonight you remember what that was like remember when an insurance company could deny if a child had
01:10:05.600 asthma if someone was a breast cancer survivor if a if a grandparent had diabetes and thankfully as i've
01:10:13.440 been vice president and we over the last four years have strengthened the affordable care act
01:10:18.080 we have allowed for the first time medicare to negotiate drug prices on behalf of you the american
01:10:23.520 people donald trump said he was going to allow medicare to negotiate drug prices he never did
01:10:28.560 we did and now we have capped the cost of insulin at 35 a month since i've been vice president we have
01:10:34.320 capped the cost of prescription medication for seniors at two thousand dollars a year and when i am
01:10:39.040 president we will do that for all people understanding that the value i bring to this is that access to
01:10:46.640 health care should be a right and not just a privilege of those who can afford it and the plan has to be
01:10:54.240 to strengthen the affordable care act not get rid of it vice president in terms of where donald trump
01:11:00.240 stands on that i want to move to an issue that's important for a lot of mistake at number one john
01:11:06.160 mccain fought obamacare for 10 years but it wasn't only him it were all of the democrats that kept it going
01:11:14.080 and you know what we can do much better than obamacare much less money but she won't improve private
01:11:21.760 insurance for people private medical insurance that's another thing she doesn't want people are
01:11:27.120 paying privately for insurance that have worked hard and made money and they want to have private
01:11:32.720 she wants everybody to be on government insurance where you wait six months for an operation that
01:11:38.240 you need immediately president trump thank you we have another issue that we'd like to get to that's
01:11:42.080 important for a number of americans in particular younger voters and that's climate change president
01:11:47.120 trump with regard to the environment you say that we have to have clean air and clean water
01:11:51.840 vice president harris you call climate change an existential threat the question to you both
01:11:57.040 tonight is what would you do to fight climate change and vice president harris we'll start with you
01:12:02.080 one minute for you each well the former president has said climate change is a hoax
01:12:07.760 and what we know is that it is very real you ask anyone who lives in a state who has experienced
01:12:13.680 these extreme weather occurrences who now is either being denied home insurance or it's being jacked
01:12:18.640 up you ask anybody who has been um the victim of what that means in terms of losing their home having
01:12:26.160 nowhere to go we know that we can actually deal with this issue the young people of america care deeply
01:12:32.320 about this issue and i am proud that as vice president over the last four years we have invested a trillion
01:12:38.240 dollars in a clean energy economy while we have also increased domestic gas production to historic
01:12:45.440 levels we have created over 800 000 new manufacturing jobs while i have been vice president we have
01:12:52.320 invested in clean energy to the point that we are opening up factories around the world donald trump
01:12:58.400 said he was going to create manufacturing jobs he lost manufacturing jobs and i'm also proud to have the
01:13:04.080 endorsement of the united auto workers and sean fein who also know that part of building a clean energy
01:13:10.720 economy includes investing in american made products american automobiles it includes growing what we can
01:13:20.160 do around american manufacturing and opening up auto plants not closing them like happened under donald trump
01:13:26.400 vice president harris thank you it didn't happen under donald trump let me just tell you they lost 10 000
01:13:31.120 manufacturing jobs this last month it's going they're all leaving they're building big auto plants
01:13:38.240 in mexico in many cases owned by china they're building these massive plants and they think they're going
01:13:44.800 to sell their cars into the united states because of these people what they have given to china is
01:13:50.800 unbelievable but we're not going to let that we'll put tariffs on those cars so they can't come into our
01:13:55.840 country because they will kill the united auto workers and any auto worker whether it's in detroit
01:14:01.840 or south carolina or any other place what they've done to business and manufacturing in this country
01:14:08.480 is horrible we have nothing because they they refuse you know biden doesn't go after people because
01:14:15.440 supposedly china paid him millions of dollars he's afraid to do it between him and his son they get all
01:14:21.040 this money from ukraine they get all this money from all of these different countries and then you
01:14:25.920 wonder why is he so loyal to this one that one ukraine china why is he why did he get three and a half
01:14:32.240 million dollars from the mayor of moscow's wife why did he get why did she pay him three and a half
01:14:38.160 million dollars this is a crooked administration and they're selling our country down the tubes president
01:14:44.880 trump thank you thank you we'll be right back with closing statements from both of our candidates

01:19:46.080 here again you're weird and lindsey davis welcome back tonight the time has come for closing statements
01:19:52.720 and vice president harris we begin with you so i think you've heard tonight two very different
01:20:00.160 visions for our country one that is focused on the future and the other that is focused on the
01:20:06.080 past and an attempt to take us backward bro but we're not going back and i do believe that the
01:20:14.320 american people know we all have so much more in common than what separates us and we can chart
01:20:19.840 a new way forward and a vision of that includes having a plan understanding the aspirations the dreams
01:20:28.960 the hopes the ambition of the american people which is why i intend to create an opportunity
01:20:35.920 the economy investing in small businesses in new families in what we can do around protecting seniors
01:20:43.360 what we can do that is about giving hard-working folks a break and bringing down the cost of living
01:20:50.320 i believe in what we can do together that is about sustaining america's standing in the world
01:20:57.440 and ensuring that we have the respect that we so rightly deserve including respecting our military
01:21:04.080 and ensuring we have the most lethal fighting force in the world i will be a president that will
01:21:09.840 protect our fundamental rights and freedoms including the right of a woman to make decisions
01:21:14.400 about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do i'll tell you i started my career
01:21:20.960 as a prosecutor i was the da united states senator and now vice president i've only have one client
01:21:27.840 the people and i'll tell you as a prosecutor i never asked a victim or a witness are you a republican
01:21:35.280 or a democrat the only thing i ever asked them are you okay bruh and that's the kind of president we
01:21:42.160 need right now someone who cares about you and is not putting themselves first i intend to be a president
01:21:49.600 for all americans and focus on what we can do over the next 10 and 20 years to build back up our
01:21:57.520 country by investing right now in you the american people vice president harris thank you president
01:22:05.760 so she just started by saying she's going to do this she's going to do that she's going to do all
01:22:09.920 these wonderful things why hasn't she done it thank you for three and a half years they've had three and
01:22:16.880 a half years to fix the border they've had three and a half years to war create jobs and all the things
01:22:23.280 we talked about why hasn't she done it she should leave right now go down to that beautiful white
01:22:30.080 house go to the capitol get everyone together and do the things you want to do but you haven't done
01:22:34.800 it and you won't do it because you believe in things that the american people don't believe in
01:22:40.080 you believe in things like we're not going to frack we're not going to take fossil fuel we're not going
01:22:44.960 to do things that are going to make this country strong whether you like it or not germany tried that
01:22:51.200 and within one year they were back to building normal energy plants we're not ready for it we can't
01:22:58.240 sacrifice our country for the sake of bad vision but i just ask one simple question why didn't she do
01:23:06.400 it we're a failing nation we're a nation that's in serious decline we're being laughed at all over
01:23:13.440 the world all over the world they're left i know the leaders very well they're coming to see me
01:23:18.000 they call me we're laughed at all over the world they don't understand what happened to us as a
01:23:23.040 nation we're not a leader we don't have any idea what's going on we have wars going on in the middle
01:23:29.600 east we have wars going on with russia and ukraine we're going to end up in a third world war and it'll
01:23:36.400 be a war like no other because of nuclear weapons the power of weaponry i rebuilt our entire military
01:23:44.080 she gave a lot of it away to the taliban she gave it to afghanistan what these people have
01:23:51.040 done to our country and maybe toughest of all is allowing millions of people to come into our
01:23:56.960 country many of them are criminals and they're destroying our country the worst president the
01:24:02.240 worst vice president in the history of our country president trump thank you and that is our abc news
