00:00:36.980 so glad you're here to share it with us as the afa comes into our 30th year anniversary
00:00:43.120 it's gonna be a good time and i can't wait to share with all of y'all so let's get down to it
00:00:49.460 and discuss the holidays holy days days of remembrance of our folk and for january we have
00:00:55.960 three special days coming up real soon because i'm late on getting this video out on january 9th
00:01:04.680 we have a day of remembrance for loud the strong and then following that up january 18th this year
00:01:11.800 is a special day because we have both the day of remembrance for king blotsvain of sweden
00:01:18.680 as well as the day for Dora Blots.
00:01:23.000 Now, of course, Dora Blots is going to change every year to be the third Saturday of the month.
00:01:28.460 But this year, it does happen to fall on the 18th, which is the Day of Remembrance for King Blotswain.
00:01:33.700 So, it's a double-duty day for sure.
00:01:38.620 Now, let's get down to it and get into the nitty-gritty and learn a little bit about these days.
00:01:42.720 All righty, you all. You should be very familiar with the Day of Remembrance for Rauld the Strong, as he's been one of our Alcatru heroes for quite some time.
00:01:52.080 But just in case you need it, here's a quick refresher.
00:01:56.060 Rauld the Strong passed away in 999 of Common Era, and in January, during the time of Thorblot, we honor Rauld the Strong, whose shrine is at Njortzhov.
00:02:08.080 His story takes place during the last decade of the 10th century, when Christianity was finally sinking its claws into Scandinavia.
00:02:17.920 Raud was a Norwegian warrior, landowner, seafarer, wizard, and gothi during the reign of King Orof Tryggvason,
00:02:26.120 who was infamous for his relentless subjugation of our own folk in the name of the foreign Christ.
00:02:31.840 Olaf spent his reign, 995 to 1000 CE, traveling through Norway, torturing and killing brave Europeans who would not forsake their throat with the Aesir. 0.51
00:02:45.200 Eventually, Olaf the Snake made his way to Raud's part of Norway, and he engaged in his sea battle with Raud's vessel, which was larger than any in Olaf's fleet.
00:02:55.100 His fleet defeated Raad in the naval battle, but Raad's reputation as a wizard proved to be true, as he was able to escape to safety by sailing against the wind, which was largely unheard of in his part of Europe at the time.
00:03:12.080 Although Raad managed to escape to one of his settlements in the Gordi Isles, Olaf tracked him down under the cover of darkness and stole him from his bed.
00:03:22.640 Once he and Rauld were face to face, he tried to bribe Rauld by letting him keep all of his lands 0.91
00:03:28.580 and offered to be his best friend, so long as he would renounce the Aesir and embrace Christ.
00:03:35.100 Rauld immediately refused, dauntless even in the face of doom, mocking Christ and Christianity and Olaf himself.
00:03:44.360 Olaf became angry and would hear no more.
00:03:47.140 He ordered the brave Goethe to die a horrible death, and so a snake was forced down Rauld's throat, 0.58
00:03:54.940 eventually gnawing its way through his side and killing him.
00:03:59.700 Olaf then seized Rauld's wealth, lands, and famous ship for himself.
00:04:04.560 The rest of Rauld's men were either baptized or killed in a similarly disgusting fashion.
00:04:11.580 Raad the Strong was dedicated to the Aesir from his first breath until his last, facing down death with his loyalty to his gods and folk unbroken.
00:04:24.460 May we all strive to remain loyal to the Aesir, even when surrounded by serpents.
00:04:32.860 May Raad's name and glory burn like a torch through the darkness of doubt.
00:04:39.400 Hail Roud the Strong
00:04:42.900 Hail the Aesir, Hail the AFA
00:04:45.580 And that brings us, of course, to January 18th
00:04:52.540 with the Day of Remembrance for King Brotswain
00:04:55.000 Passed away 1087 of Common Era
00:05:00.200 King Brotswain's story starts with the rule of his sister's husband
00:05:04.940 King Ingia, Sweden
00:05:06.820 These events take place in the mid to late 11th century 0.97
00:05:11.640 When Christianity has spread its influence over nearly all of our fold 0.56
00:05:16.320 Including the Scandinavians
00:05:18.700 According to our main source, the Icelandic Hervavar Saga
00:05:23.960 King Ingi was a Christian, but his people were still also true
00:05:28.900 When Ingi took the throne, his people hoped that he would renounce the foreign Christ
00:05:34.380 and give blot to the Aesir at the temple of Uppsala on behalf of the Swedish kingdom.
00:05:41.900 He refused to do so and was then rightfully deposed by his people 0.92
00:05:46.920 who wanted to keep their troth with the mighty Aesir. 0.99
00:05:50.720 His brother-in-law, who we now know as Blotsvain,
00:05:55.700 told the folk of Sweden that he would take up the throne
00:05:59.500 and give blot to the Aesir for the sake of the Swedish people. 0.83
00:06:04.380 They joyfully proclaimed him king of Sweden, and thus returned to being an Alcetru nation.
00:06:12.820 However, this glorious moment was short-lived.
00:06:16.360 A few years later, Ingi returned to Sweden with a small retinue of men, and lit King Blotsvain's home on fire, killing him.
00:06:27.020 Although Alcetru was once again suppressed in Sweden by force,
00:06:31.820 King Brotswain's courage is something to be remembered and celebrated.
00:06:39.180 So, what can we learn from this story?
00:06:42.880 As modern-day Alcetruar, we can take much inspiration from the king's example.
00:06:49.840 He managed to be both an aristocrat, as well as someone who could relate to his people and give them what they wanted and needed.
00:06:57.640 He fearlessly stood in the way of rampaging Christianity,
00:07:02.060 even publicly giving brought to the Aesir and Uppsala on behalf of his folk. 0.91
00:07:07.240 He did not let sociopolitical pressure or greed from the Christians' coin stop him.
00:07:14.860 Rather, he pressed forward with both piety and strength. 0.95
00:07:19.900 Had he not been felled by the underhanded work of Ingi,
00:07:23.140 He would certainly have been a mighty leader of a mighty Alcetru Sweden for many prosperous years.
00:07:31.300 Let's all reflect on this and take courage into our modern lives, just like King Brotswain.
00:07:40.300 Hail King Brotswain of Sweden.
00:07:44.960 Hail the ASEAL.
00:07:47.080 Hail the AFA.
00:07:48.520 and also this year on January the 18th is Thoroblot. Thoroblot is an Icelandic midwinter
00:08:00.200 festival dedicated to as the name describes Thor. Thoroblot is named after the Icelandic
00:08:08.640 month of Thorri from the historic calendar and ran from mid-January to mid-February.
00:08:15.200 Though Thorblot is a relatively modern social celebration in Iceland, there is a reference
00:08:22.160 in the Floteirblot that states that the Kvinns offer a yearly sacrifice to Thorri at midwinter.
00:08:30.700 Typically, Thorblot is celebrated by gathering together and eating many of Iceland's traditional
00:08:36.680 foods and by singing, reciting poems, and telling stories.
00:08:43.440 Some good ways to celebrate Thorbrot include eating traditional Icelandic foods such as
00:08:48.440 Hecarl , Brothmur, blood-suet filled sausage black pudding, 0.89
00:08:56.440 Hruitsbrunger, ram's scrotum with testicles, Rundabagi , 0.99
00:09:04.440 or Svith . 0.89
00:09:07.440 Don't worry, if these are unavailable or simply not to your taste, eating goat and goat products
00:09:16.060 such as goat cheese or goat milk, all appropriate options.
00:09:21.760 Called by some as the cabin fever holiday, Thorblot is a great way to liven up the doldrums
00:09:29.280 of midwinter.
00:09:30.640 So take some time to light a fire and make merry.
00:09:33.620 Have the folk tell stories or recite poems about Thor
00:09:37.560 Eat and drink and enjoy the company of folk and family
00:09:41.900 And that brings us to the end of January, y'all
00:09:48.220 I really do hope you're able to get out there
00:09:51.340 Meet with your folk
00:09:52.760 Celebrate our heroes
00:09:54.980 Give honor to Lord Thor
00:09:57.260 and all around have a great great january and an amazing start to the new year again this is the
