00:00:00.000 Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and folk of all ages, you know what time it is.
00:00:27.140 It's time for the holidays, holy days, and days of remembrance for the month of May.
00:00:33.300 Alright, Alcetruar.
00:00:36.260 May is an awesome month.
00:00:39.280 We just followed it up yesterday, May 1st.
00:00:43.660 We had our holiday.
00:00:45.560 We're done and over with.
00:00:47.240 Nope, nope, we're not.
00:00:49.380 Because remember, when the holidays fall on off days, we always move them to the third Saturday of the month.
00:00:56.500 At least that's when most of us celebrate, because we can't celebrate mid-week.
00:01:01.020 So let's get down to it, talk about Sumer Mall, or you might know it as May Day,
00:01:07.460 and our Day of Remembrance for John Gibbs Bailey, also known as Oscurd.
00:01:14.440 Alrighty then.
00:01:16.520 As I alluded to, May 1st is the official day of Sumer Mall.
00:01:21.980 it follows northern knots which was the last day of April and of course we
00:01:27.920 celebrate or observe them on off days so for May the general observance day is
00:01:34.780 gonna be a third Saturday May 17th if you're hanging out at a half you're
00:01:39.540 coming out to Sigurheim you're gonna do it on certain days
00:01:44.320 Sigurheim's actually is this weekend we're gonna do it this set this Saturday
00:01:48.860 on the 3rd. If you want to go
00:01:50.960 to any of the Hoffs, it's on the
00:01:52.800 17th. And then
00:01:54.860 I think we've got some folk, some folk
00:01:56.840 builders in Gothar around the
00:01:58.980 country going and doing
00:02:00.520 their Sumer Mall celebrations
00:02:02.780 on the 10th, the 3rd, the 17th,
00:02:04.960 maybe even the 24th.
00:02:07.060 But you know what it is.
00:02:09.400 So what is Sumer
00:02:11.020 Mall? On the
00:02:13.000 heels of Nornanat, when the cattle
00:02:14.800 were blessed in the smoke of the fire before
00:02:16.940 being sent to their summer fields, 0.88
00:02:18.860 We celebrate Sumer Moll.
00:02:22.080 Halfway between the spring and summer solstice, Sumer Moll is often considered to be the first day of summer.
00:02:28.780 Warmer days are becoming normal.
00:02:31.540 The spring rains that helped us to nourish the awakening fields have begun to taper off.
00:02:37.080 The world around us is verdant again.
00:02:40.820 On Sumer Moll, big celebrations were held,
00:02:43.760 both to celebrate the end of the harder days of winter
00:02:47.160 and to bless themselves and their crops for a fertile and productive year.
00:02:52.660 Men and women leapt over fires together or alone wishing for fertility in the coming year.
00:02:59.040 The maypole was raised and around it people danced and wove ribbons.
00:03:04.940 Women decorated their windows and doors with flowers and wove them into their hair.
00:03:10.600 Sumer Mall is the coming together of men and women to celebrate life.
00:03:17.360 We use this time to celebrate all the good things that we have.
00:03:21.460 All the things that we have worked hard for.
00:03:24.340 We've survived the harsh months when stagnation is so easy a thing to fall into.
00:03:30.060 When the celebration is done, the real hard work begins.
00:03:34.300 The plan that was set into motion at Disa Thing will now begin the active stage.
00:03:40.600 Those seeds that you planted or that project that you planned at Alstra will now need real tending to.
00:03:48.980 Sumer Mall marks the beginning.
00:03:51.340 It marks the start of growth.
00:03:54.080 Where one has the will, all things can happen.
00:03:58.300 I absolutely love
00:04:03.120 Supermal and all of the
00:04:05.060 stories and traditions
00:04:06.400 from around our
00:04:09.040 community. I was just
00:04:11.200 listening to Witten Fassett
00:04:12.860 talk about at Baldershof
00:04:14.840 they cut trimmings from
00:04:17.020 the ribbons. The last
00:04:18.980 bits as they wrap it around the pole
00:04:21.220 those last bits dangling
00:04:23.120 off they cut those trimmings off 0.50
00:04:24.880 give those out to prospective 0.54
00:04:27.060 young maidens and gentlemen, and from what I've been told, they've got a bit of a hot
00:04:35.400 streak going, and anybody that takes those ribbons home with them has ended up with a
00:04:42.460 little bit of a bun in the oven in the next year or two. Apparently, that hot streak is
00:04:48.140 still going and is unbroken and unblemished. So let's see what we can do if you're going
00:04:54.720 up to Baldrishoff.
00:04:56.540 You better be careful
00:04:58.200 or you might have another mouth to feed.
00:05:03.260 And after
00:05:04.420 Sumer Mall on May
00:05:06.960 22nd we celebrate
00:05:08.780 the Day of Remembrance for John Gibbs
00:05:10.860 Bailey or Hoskold.
00:05:13.420 He was born
00:05:14.700 May 22nd, 1913
00:05:16.720 passed away January 1st, 2003
00:05:19.300 and you may
00:05:20.980 remember him from the story of
00:05:22.760 Stubba last month.
00:05:25.520 John Gibbs Bailey, perhaps better known as Hoskold, was born on the 22nd of May, 1913.
00:05:32.880 He was an Englishman who, along with Stubba, founded the Odinic Rite
00:05:36.580 and spearheaded the reforging of Alcetru in Great Britain.
00:05:41.300 Very little is known about his personal life outside of his clear devotion to the Isir and his folk.
00:05:47.520 It is said that he founded our gods in the 1930s and immediately recognized an Alcetru.
00:05:53.760 is meant to be lived and practiced with the rest of our folk.
00:05:59.660 He met John Yole Stubba in the 1950s
00:06:03.800 and they stayed in touch about Alcintru for the next 20 years
00:06:07.000 before founding the precursor to the Odinic Rite in 1973.
00:06:12.480 In these early days of the Odinic Rites is when he adopted the name Hoskull,
00:06:16.900 which he took from the 10th century Icelandic gothi Hoskull Darakolson.
00:06:22.980 He also spent his time formulizing the doctrine of the Odinic Rite, as well as eight of the nine noble virtues.
00:06:29.880 By the end of the 70s, Haskold decided to step out of the public-facing role and let Stubba take the reins, leading the court to Gotar.
00:06:41.280 He instead took on the duties of treasurer and continued to keep his personal life to himself.
00:06:46.260 Beyond this, we know nothing about the remainder of Haskold's time in Midgarthor.
00:06:53.020 He passed away on January 1, 2003, right after the twelfth day of Yorl.
00:06:59.940 While his personal life remains largely a mystery, his impact on the history of Alcetru
00:07:04.280 and our folk does not.
00:07:06.500 The very virtues we strive for today were coined by him, and countless Aryan men and
00:07:11.440 women have come home to their native faith in the Aesir because of this alone.
00:07:15.440 The noble people of Britain and beyond
00:07:19.440 were given a chance to reconnect with their ancestors and the divine
00:07:23.440 because of the 70 years of work done by Hoskord.
00:07:27.440 Hail Hoskord.
00:07:31.440 That is what we have coming up for May.
00:07:35.440 But y'all know how it is. I can't leave you hanging without plugging some future
00:07:39.440 stuff. And this summer, like every summer in the House of True Folk Assembly, is popping with stuff
00:07:46.900 and events and just awesomeness. So, first up is Midsummer at Odenshof. Next month, the fourth
00:07:56.920 weekend of June. Get yourself out to California. Get to Odenshof. It is amazing. I was out there
00:08:06.620 last year, visiting our
00:08:08.740 folk, hanging out with the
00:08:10.460 McNallans, and
00:08:12.580 just basking
00:08:14.940 in the glory of Olden.
00:08:17.200 Witnessing
00:08:17.920 the Freya 1.00
00:08:20.780 Pole and the God Poles around 1.00
00:08:23.000 the Sonenrod 0.99
00:08:24.540 altar area, and
00:08:26.960 the mural to Olden,
00:08:28.540 and the great food and community
00:08:30.700 and company. It happened
00:08:32.560 to be the last stop of me completing my
00:08:34.460 first Brotfest, visiting all
00:08:36.320 four Hoffs and Sigelheim.
00:08:39.000 Get out there. The fourth
00:08:40.320 weekend of June, midsummer
00:08:42.320 at Odenshof.
00:08:45.180 We'll follow that up
00:08:46.540 in July, fourth
00:08:48.260 weekend, here in Tennessee.
00:08:50.700 Jackson County, Tennessee, just outside
00:08:52.580 Whitleyville at Sigelheim
00:08:54.160 is Sigelbrot.
00:08:56.940 We're going to have an amazing
00:08:58.440 time. Brot's here.
00:09:00.800 We're going to have some games,
00:09:02.760 competitions,
00:09:04.320 Blots, Sambal, stories, great food.
00:09:07.740 You're going to see me on the grill.
00:09:10.020 And I'm just going to hang out with the folk, spend time.
00:09:14.000 And if you haven't made it out yet to see the statues we have of the McNallans,
00:09:17.800 it's a pretty cool thing.
00:09:19.440 You'll be amazed at how lifelike those things are.
00:09:22.480 So fourth weekend of July, Tennessee, Sigerheim.
00:09:26.220 Come on out for Sigerblots. 0.99
00:09:28.340 We're going to follow that up in August. 1.00
00:09:31.040 And I told you, summer is packed.
00:09:33.520 June, July, August, Freyfaxi at Baldershof.
00:09:38.620 My first Hof, a wonderful, wonderful folk representing the shining Baldr.
00:09:45.740 Baldershof as Freyfaxi is an amazing time.
00:09:49.600 Go hang out with Wittenfacic, Goethe Stamm, Goethe Erlinson, and those great, great folk.
00:09:56.320 Give bloat to Baldr, give bloat to Freyr,
00:09:59.280 and just experience what it's like
00:10:02.580 in the great white north of Minnesota.
00:10:06.000 And we're going to skip a month for September,
00:10:08.740 but then follow that up October,
00:10:10.640 best month out of the year, my birthday month.
00:10:13.580 In October is Winter Nights.
00:10:15.680 This is Winter Nights 14.
00:10:19.500 And this year, just like last year,
00:10:21.420 they're following it up in New Hampshire.
00:10:24.160 Get on out. 1.00
00:10:25.660 Go hang out at the homestead of Folkbitter Boardman.
00:10:29.280 and just enjoy yourself, nice cool weather, what better place could be,
00:10:35.420 what better trip could you plan for this fall than New England?
00:10:40.900 The trees and the leaves are changing colors, the crisp, cool air,
00:10:47.880 being with your folk around bonfires, and just coming together,
00:10:53.200 worshipping the
00:10:54.220 Aesir, worshipping 1.00
00:10:57.100 the Althar and the Deesir 1.00
00:10:59.300 with the
00:11:01.140 Witten Erikson, Githya
00:11:03.060 Erikson, all the folk
00:11:05.300 up there
00:11:06.020 I have been to Winter Nights
00:11:08.680 a few years ago myself
00:11:10.560 and it is a wonderful spooky
00:11:13.020 time. Get on out
00:11:15.120 y'all.
00:11:16.720 Alright, that's a bit of a recap
00:11:18.800 we'll of course have our Feast of the Einherjahr
00:11:21.660 our Einherjarblot
00:11:23.980 national event in November
00:11:25.900 as well. We don't quite have
00:11:27.820 the plans for that one yet
00:11:29.220 so I'll leave that one up in the air for now
00:11:32.060 but lots
00:11:34.000 of stuff coming on the horizon y'all
00:11:35.740 I'm going to stop doing plugs
00:11:37.940 I'm going to leave y'all to it
