Asatru Folk Assembly - Stop Consuming So Much Doom-Porn (from VNS Episode 62)

00:00:00.000 The next question up, and I'm going to let you start first on this.

00:00:19.560 Where do you see our folk in the future?

00:00:23.140 Will we see a fall of the West?

00:00:25.900 Has it already happened?

00:00:27.020 Or do you think the reality of the situation is exaggerated?

00:00:31.200 It's a lot of questions, but I think it's basically one question.

00:00:39.420 So we're in sort of a depression as it relates to our folks.

00:00:46.980 So things, we're on the precipice, I think, of seeing things getting better.

00:00:53.340 Now, whether that precipice is going to be a decade or several decades or a hundred years, I don't know. I don't think anyone really knows. I do think that we've been, our people have been living life in a way where we have been robbing from the future to sort of fuel our hedonistic pleasures of the now.

00:01:16.880 um unfortunately the generations before us have have done so and i mean we're we're also complicit

00:01:23.660 in it as we as we uh as we grow up but uh so i think that we that our society is living on

00:01:33.560 borrowed time the society as it stands right now i don't think that we're going to see a

00:01:39.980 a complete dissolution of our of our people but things are going to change and things need to

00:01:45.620 change because i think that uh the people who are watching this uh to one degree or another agrees

00:01:52.260 that the way society is run now is not healthy and is not right or just so we do want it to be

00:02:02.740 switched out with something that is good and that is uh healthy for us but in order for that to

00:02:10.420 happen this these paradigms that we've been living with for a very long time

00:02:15.860 they need to be dismantled and and they they're falling on their own as they

00:02:22.600 they're not rooted in reality and they're not rooted in in what is right

00:02:27.640 and just they're rooted in in entropy and destruction and the the really the

00:02:37.740 the dishonoring of of that which is actually good so i think it is i don't think it has happened i

00:02:46.120 think it is happening all around us and on the one hand i think the the situation is exaggerated

00:02:54.260 but on the other hand it's not exaggerated i don't i think it is when people take it as oh we can't do

00:02:59.980 anything everything is hopeless then i think no that is your that is incredibly exaggerated and

00:03:06.180 it's not rooted in in reality it is rooted in propaganda that that uh that these bad actors

00:03:13.680 are are pumping out and you need to stop watching that propaganda that is a huge issue with with uh

00:03:20.380 with people and i think it's part of the the soul sickness we're just drawn to looking at all the

00:03:25.980 bad news of the world it's like oh look what what happened in sweden here and what happened in

00:03:30.720 America here. You need to stop watching that. You will be hearing about it anyways, but please

00:03:38.020 make an effort in not consuming so much doom porn, really, because then it will make you think that

00:03:46.380 things are worse than they actually are. So stop doing that.

00:03:52.560 All right. You heard it here, folks. I'm going to steal it and I'm going to use it.

00:03:55.760 doom porn. I think that really does capture it accurately. Very seldom do we just see

00:04:13.000 cataclysmic social change. We like to talk a lot, and it's kind of the big picture example

00:04:24.420 is the fall of the Roman Empire. No one generation saw the empire fall. It fell for,

00:04:34.300 you know, depends who you talk to, but three or 400 years, depending where you were at.

00:04:41.240 It's a slow process of change. And it's hard, you know, asking people to predict the future is

00:04:47.400 a difficult task. One thing my dad noticed about America

00:04:56.020 is, you know, he lamented that this is the first, you know, my generation, and I assume my

00:05:03.640 daughters didn't be the second, it's the first generation that their kids weren't going to be

00:05:10.800 better off than them. Like things weren't looking up. And I think that's interesting because he's,

00:05:18.440 you know, tends to be a more middle of the road conservative. He's not, you know, really our guy

00:05:24.380 on stuff. For him to see that is, you know, he's always been super patriotic. He was a soldier. He

00:05:34.660 in the army built career in the in the army um always been really devoted to america and

00:05:41.540 to see that change in his life was was interesting um

00:05:48.100 yeah it's not going the right direction is it a fall i don't know is it a deep valley that maybe

00:05:54.260 we'll pull out of on the other side or is something going to break down and we're going

00:05:58.260 to just build something different i don't know what i do know is the afa is doing our very best

00:06:04.100 to build, to build a outpost of the golden age within the Kali Yuga. We're building the best we

00:06:14.480 can amongst ourselves at our Hoffs, at Sigerheim. We're continuing to grow and build a community

00:06:21.340 and share with each other to where we're positioned to celebrate if everything goes great or to take

00:06:29.100 strength from one another and take care of each other if things go poorly. It's hard to tell if

00:06:37.320 the reality of the situation is exaggerated. I think that's always something historians can do

00:06:42.460 in hindsight, which you very seldom know at the time. We base tragedy on our own life experience.

00:06:51.280 You know, what's a big deal to you may not be a big deal to me. What's a big deal to me may not

00:06:56.960 be a big deal to someone else who's lived a more stressful life or a life where their immediate

00:07:04.240 needs aren't met. There's a lot to be said to it. But what I have seen is the people that embrace

00:07:11.020 the doom porn and do the whole prepper thing. Not that it's not wise to be prepared for certain

00:07:19.320 things, but when you make your existence about preparing for the apocalypse and then it doesn't

00:07:25.700 happen it's a lot of wasted years and it's a lot of wasted energy a lot of wasted relationship

00:07:31.860 and time with your family and time you could have been doing stuff with your head focused

00:07:37.060 up it's one of the it's funny how it's weird how these things

00:07:44.100 come together on these shows and themes coalesce but uh speaking of balder and baldershoff

00:07:49.540 one of the things that i think is most special about

00:07:54.740 the vey and the uh the mural is it's it's in kind of a triangular space

00:08:03.760 and lord balder's head is at the pinnacle of this triangle and he's looking up and it's

00:08:12.060 everything there directs your attention upwards looking to the future looking to something better

00:08:18.500 looking to build and not looking down at, you know, all the things that are wrong,

00:08:25.220 looking up towards things that we can become. And I think that, you know, getting your head

00:08:29.240 up and looking for the positives and much more healthy thing to do. And we've seen generations

00:08:33.420 of people now, you know, we've seen a couple of generations doing the whole prepper thing where 0.97

00:08:38.120 these old guys, you know, spend their whole life prepping for something and then they pass and

00:08:45.140 nothing's happened. And they've squandered a lot of things and a lot of time in order to do that.

00:08:52.080 So I think focusing on what we can build and building it within the AFA is a very unique

00:08:56.720 opportunity that we have in this day and age. It's pretty special.

00:09:15.140 We'll be right back.
