Bannon's War Room - Battleground EP 205： The Next Monumental Battle Is The Debt Ceiling

00:00:00.000 this is what you're fighting for i mean every day you're out there what they're doing is blowing

00:00:15.680 people off if you continue to look the other way and shut up then the oppressors the

00:00:22.680 authoritarians get total control and total power because this is just like in arizona this is just

00:00:28.600 like in georgia it's another element that backs them into a quarter and shows their lies and

00:00:33.340 misrepresentations is why this audience is going to have to get engaged as we've told you this is

00:00:37.620 the fight all this nonsense all this spin they can't handle the truth war room battleground here's

00:00:44.660 your host stephen k bannon okay welcome it's uh wednesday for january in the year of our lord

00:00:52.820 2023 uh in this hour we're going to try to track down there's a lot going on a lot of moving pieces

00:00:58.320 uh just to get you up to speed is that they had a couple of votes i think three uh votes today all

00:01:04.260 is basically the same kevin mccarthy didn't make any real um didn't make any progress whatsoever

00:01:11.280 in in uh lessening of the gap that he had um and these uh in the 20 came under tremendous just

00:01:18.380 vitriol from everything from the fox news people to uh you know donors all of it uh just go just

00:01:25.100 unrelenting uh you know just unrelenting just um just uh you know basically dumping all over these

00:01:33.760 guys all day men and women they hung tough and remember mccarthy and these guys said very simply

00:01:40.000 is that hey what we're doing is we're going to uh we're going to sit there we're going to vote we're

00:01:43.900 going to vote non-stop we're going to keep you up there and we're going to vote and kevin mccarthy

00:01:47.460 actually said this was kind of the one of the words that was going around he was telling people in

00:01:51.080 fact if we vote to adjourn we have to leave the floor go to conference i'm going to resign from

00:01:55.740 congress and and leave because i'm staying until i'm only going to come off the floor uh when i'm

00:02:00.920 speaker and what you've had is uh they've been totally caught by surprise back on the heels they

00:02:06.180 had no earthly idea there was anywhere close to this level of uh of really not just anger and

00:02:12.360 disappointment but but really not personal but it needed a change a change needs to happen and this

00:02:18.120 is what's called uh this is what's called command by negation uh and it's um in command by negation

00:02:24.780 you have a small group of people that are very focused that can change the dynamics we're going

00:02:28.780 to get bob good just give me the heads up producer team when congressman good is uh up uh one of the

00:02:33.920 original members of this and somebody said from day one hey the change has to be made is that it's

00:02:38.200 it's got to be kevin mccarthy's got to go um so where we are went through another three votes today

00:02:44.380 no change whatsoever except another brian donalds from florida was the name that they put up as the

00:02:51.200 alternative today uh the congresswoman from um from indiana is kind of voted president she said she

00:02:57.040 didn't like the process she wants to engage in negotiations ken buck as we led off the last hour 0.76

00:03:02.920 the first hour of the show ken buck came up to cnn jake tapper uh you know late in the afternoon said

00:03:08.800 hey and he's a big kevin mccarthy guy he said if kevin mccarthy can uh if kevin mccarthy can sit

00:03:14.520 there and show me a path to 218 we'll do that if there's no path uh then there's got to be some

00:03:20.260 changes made here and so uh with voice acclamation because they couldn't get uh an adjournment the the

00:03:26.420 what i'm really proud of is the is the hardcore five the nine that signed the letter the others

00:03:30.660 that came up to 20 they said no no no no let's play by your rules you want to keep voting let's keep

00:03:34.800 voting and we don't want to adjourn we want to be in there so they went to a voice adjournment do i

00:03:39.700 have congressman good is congressman good uh up and ready okay fine we're trying to work out his

00:03:44.420 okay we are congressman good can you hear me i can hear you steve

00:03:48.520 congressman walk us through just get us up to date you've been you've been very adamant

00:03:54.440 since you started this you've been kind of like the rockers of the wall say hey look

00:03:58.660 we can start to have a meaningful conversation about going forward and what we're going to do here

00:04:03.380 when they understand that kevin mccarthy is not going to be speaker of the house now

00:04:07.260 they were going to keep you guys on the floor constantly for three or four days and break you

00:04:12.980 right until we became speaker all of a sudden in the last two days they're the ones running around

00:04:17.940 one of germans all the time you guys are sitting there going no let's you guys you told us the other

00:04:21.420 day you're gonna strip us of our committee assignments let's roll let's let's let's play ball

00:04:25.200 so what what's the status right now we're supposed to come back at eight on this adjournment is that

00:04:30.100 what's going to happen and what's happened in the interim sir well you're right we were told you know

00:04:34.260 a few days ago that uh we would stay on the floor kevin mccarthy would stay on the floor we would

00:04:38.220 never stop voting until he was elected speaker they're going to do whatever it takes and frankly

00:04:42.140 we're ready to do that we're ready to keep on voting uh we've held strong at right about 20 on

00:04:46.320 each of the six votes as you know and i think reality is beginning to set in indications are that

00:04:52.600 they're maybe starting to falter a little bit or recognition may be starting to come

00:04:56.980 uh through to some of the members who've been supporting kevin mccarthy that they're not going

00:05:00.620 to break the 20 that we're going to hold strong that we realize this is too important to save the

00:05:05.500 country that uh we've we've got an opportunity here to bring transformational change to congress

00:05:09.720 and we're going to see this through so you're correct yesterday uh the republican leadership team

00:05:15.260 the mccarthy team made a motion to adjourn yesterday and they did the same again today uh we're

00:05:19.820 supposed to come back together at eight o'clock this evening and hopefully uh we can uh grow the number

00:05:25.580 of members who are voting against kevin mccarthy i'm very confident we'll at least hold our 20

00:05:29.720 and time is on our side we're willing to do this for as long as it takes it's worth taking what now

00:05:35.200 has been just a little over 24 hours hopefully it won't go on too much longer but uh this is too

00:05:39.940 important of a decision to rush through it to make a bad decision they talk about chaos and uh and

00:05:47.040 you're 20 because they never expected you got 20 that they're going to have these five uh these five

00:05:51.520 extremists that's because five extremists we can deal with that you had 19 coming out of the box

00:05:56.440 and you could tell they're back on the heels this i think for people particularly a lot of our audience

00:06:01.880 maybe doesn't wash the minutiae of the house every day they're kind of in shock that mccarthy who's 0.98

00:06:07.500 supposed to have this very sophisticated team looks like they're back on the heels are always

00:06:11.840 misreading the situation and they look a little chaotic and you guys are very steady hey you say you're

00:06:17.140 going to stay and vote until we finish let's go and vote we don't want insurance we want to vote

00:06:20.960 why is this emblematic of his team of how unprofessional they are well i don't want to

00:06:28.460 speak specific to his team members i don't really have a lot of interaction with his staff i've not

00:06:32.620 really been on the christmas list for my first two years in congress but i can just tell you steve

00:06:37.860 we're doing what we know is right for the country and quite frankly what we know is right

00:06:42.160 with our constituents the voters who sent us to washington who sent us to washington to hold

00:06:47.540 the line to make change to do everything we can with the majority in the house to stop the biden

00:06:52.220 schumer agenda and you know past history is the greatest indicator of future performance and there's

00:06:57.680 nothing from kevin mccarthy's past history that tells you he's the right person to fight uh you know

00:07:02.800 i think i might have said this to you yesterday but we saw this anger and this intensity and this

00:07:07.060 toughness on display in a republican conference meeting yesterday morning where he essentially

00:07:11.440 declared war on the 20 of us and really made threatening remarks and and and really got very

00:07:16.680 emotional and very intense and and and and you know if we had seen that same kind of fight directed

00:07:22.160 at democrat policies directed the biden administration directed at the democrats control in both houses of

00:07:28.320 congress over these last two years or even over the 12 years he's been in leadership you'd probably be

00:07:32.940 in a different situation than we find ourselves today because that's what world you know america is

00:07:37.260 hungry for leadership america is hungry for someone to stand up and fight for them

00:07:41.140 americans realize that there's so many crises that are afflicting the country and they're just starved

00:07:46.680 for that and we're just willing to risk everything to give us the best bigger we can get

00:07:50.140 what when they say that they want to adjourn and have some negotiations

00:07:55.320 in your mind what do they think there is to negotiate it so it seems to me like i was in mergers and

00:08:02.420 acquisitions at goldman sachs for many years and there's certain times it's just unbridgeable you're just

00:08:07.200 not going to get the deal done right that seems to me where we are but they keep saying oh there's

00:08:13.220 grounds for negotiations we need to talk to people we need to pull people aside in their mind what do

00:08:18.260 they think they're negotiating great question i think that they haven't fully realized is this is

00:08:24.260 different there's a reason this hasn't happened in a hundred years i think when we began to meet with

00:08:29.080 kevin mccarthy back in july and to present changes we wanted to see brought to how congress operates

00:08:34.340 rules of the house rules of the republican party and we wanted to ask him about what his vision was

00:08:39.700 to fight against the biden agenda in the next two years and we began to meet with him and ask him

00:08:45.060 and to press him on that to express our concern and then of course we began to express a greater

00:08:50.380 concern after the election that we we weren't sure that we could support him some of us were

00:08:54.020 immediately where i was of course we weren't going to support kevin mccarthy others expressed concern but

00:08:58.720 they're willing to at least talk and have discussions about what changes he was willing to make

00:09:03.060 but i think we've moved past that point where i can't speak for all 20 but i would say the vast

00:09:08.440 majority i believe are resolved that kevin mccarthy is not the answer my position certainly is and i

00:09:13.900 know there's a number of colleagues who agree with me that we're done with kevin mccarthy we've moved

00:09:17.120 past him we need to move to the post mccarthy discussions you know we've put forth three candidates

00:09:22.460 who we think would be outstanding speakers andy biggs from arizona jim jordan from ohio byron

00:09:27.240 donald's from florida uh they've you know we've been around 20 votes for those as you know to this

00:09:32.360 point but until kevin mccarthy reads the handwriting on the wall and does what's best and right for the

00:09:39.100 country for the congress the republican party and pulls out and withdraws because it shouldn't be

00:09:43.620 about one person it's not about ambition or pride or selfishness or at least it shouldn't be

00:09:48.060 until he does that you're not going to see more candidates come forward but what we do is to have

00:09:52.520 him withdraw move past him get all the republicans in a room and let's put forward the candidates we

00:09:57.440 think should lead the party and let's go ahead and have that vetting process that interview process

00:10:02.740 see who has the greatest amount of support and then go back on the floor and vote in our speaker

00:10:07.000 do you think ken buck went on cnn early today the jake tapper show and said hey look he's a big

00:10:14.440 supporter of kevin mccarthy and he was going to continue to vote for a couple more of these rounds but

00:10:19.600 he said look if it looks like there's not a path to 218 we just can't sit here and do this forever

00:10:23.960 and we're going to have to you know have a conversation with him we got to get past that

00:10:27.620 are you seeing that you believe in the conference that there's a number of people that that are you

00:10:32.940 know ardent mccarthy supporters but they understand that there's a core group here just not going to

00:10:37.540 budge and now they will start to entertain the what we call the post mccarthy uh structure of this

00:10:43.800 ken buck's a good friend of mine he's a strong conservative he's a very bright strong member of

00:10:48.680 congress we're obviously have been in a different place for these first six votes but i think ken's

00:10:53.200 and i'll let ken speak for himself but i will say that i think what has been reported that he said i

00:10:58.060 of course didn't see that that that interview or those remarks directly to the cnn host but uh i think

00:11:04.120 that there's a number of members who are right there where uh that's been reported that ken buck said he

00:11:09.360 was and they're ready to vote against mccarthy they're ready to move forward they're ready to move

00:11:15.280 past mccarthy to a path forward to get us to 218. one of the things that's been said today by you

00:11:22.380 know vox and the wall street journal others are saying hey it's now dawning on them that this is

00:11:27.160 not simply about their speaker this is also about a kind of a a attitude or an angle of attack and the

00:11:33.260 first thing they mention is the debt ceiling and the appropriations because this is about money and

00:11:37.740 power at the end of the day um what do you think how is this effort informing those massive decisions

00:11:45.820 that have to be made and they're going to have to be made the debt scene let's say the debt scene

00:11:49.180 they say it's the summer fall i think it'll be as early as maybe march or april given where the tax

00:11:54.340 revenues are how does this inform really these critically and massive decisions that have to be

00:12:01.300 made about the finances of the country sir yes setting aside the shortcomings relative to kevin

00:12:06.420 mccarthy about the trust gap that he has with the membership or his track record of not standing

00:12:10.920 up and fighting strong for conservative or even republican objectives in in the spending packages

00:12:16.540 that everyone that's ever massive spending bill that's went through the house with uh during his

00:12:21.680 time as majority leader did so with majority of democrat support instead of republican setting that

00:12:25.700 aside you've got the latest example with the omnibus the 1.7 trillion dollar spending package that

00:12:30.900 mitch mcconnell in the senate and some members of the house passed with the democrats which stripped away

00:12:36.280 our leverage our funding spending leverage for nine months into the new year we ought to be using that

00:12:41.860 leverage right now but the republicans stuck it to us in helping the democrats pass that bill so you're

00:12:47.600 exactly right steve the next big battle on the horizon now that we don't have that leverage is the

00:12:53.420 debt ceiling when whether or not that's reached uh you may be right uh in the spring or certainly i would

00:12:57.880 think by the summertime we've got to have a true principal leader who who has understands leverage has

00:13:04.820 strong negotiating skills has a steel spine and is willing quite frankly to to shut down the

00:13:11.220 government if necessary to bring us onto a path of fiscal responsibility we cannot raise the debt

00:13:18.240 ceiling without cutting spending and i don't mean a promise to cut spending but commensurate cuts in

00:13:23.980 spending uh going forward that will get us on a path of fiscal responsibility and if the democrats don't

00:13:29.420 want to do that then quite frankly the government doesn't have to shut down all they've got to do is

00:13:33.520 just cut the uh cut the non-mandatory spending cut the discretionary spending to meet the provisions

00:13:38.900 of the revenue that's coming in and call the democrats bluff if they want to shut down the

00:13:43.080 government let them do so and of course as you know essential government functions continue anyway

00:13:47.600 if they're not essential then cut the funding for those those uh non-essential aspects of the

00:13:52.540 government but this this this is the i just want yeah because we know the guys at bloomberg and the

00:13:57.700 journal and the ft watch the show because we do so much capital markets i just want to make sure that

00:14:01.680 that we're clear when we talk about the debt ceiling and this is the type of creative hard

00:14:06.300 nose but good for the country uh in the debt ceiling itself it actually wouldn't have to be increased

00:14:11.260 you could have a waterfall you could still pay the face amount whatever's coming due of the government

00:14:16.600 securities you pay all the interest then you pay social security and medicare there's plenty of cash

00:14:20.680 coming in for that then you get to discretionary spending and then hey you're going to pay what you got

00:14:25.880 money for and that is that a process that you think that your colleagues would support as a as an

00:14:32.480 opening salvo and saying hey look if we're having a debt ceiling conversation we've got to get control

00:14:37.540 of spending because here's what they did today congressman there was a split screen and the split

00:14:42.400 screen was mitch mcconnell uh and governor dewine out there with sherrod brown and uh and joe biden rubbing

00:14:48.420 up on each other about this infrastructure bill right another trade and a half dollars right spent and they're

00:14:53.560 saying what this is what people want this is good and look at look at these guys right here look at

00:14:57.420 these extremists right here that's the way the media is portraying it the reality is that you and

00:15:04.280 your colleagues are saying we have to be good stewards but we have to be we have to have an adult

00:15:08.240 conversation we can't just have this happy talk anymore because the get the con is basically over

00:15:13.480 do you think other of your colleagues are thinking in that kind of sophisticated way that hey the big

00:15:19.080 fight's going to be debt ceiling in the spending sir well i think we're going to have enough

00:15:24.040 conservatives in the congress to have the leverage on the republican side that we're going to be able

00:15:30.000 to apply a lot of leverage if we stand strong to prevent the house from participating without cuts

00:15:35.880 in spending and you're exactly right steve with what you said you without raising the debt ceiling all

00:15:40.200 you got to do is prioritize your spending and decide where you don't have the money the things that

00:15:43.460 the american people have to do every week every month in their family budgets we obviously need to be 0.97

00:15:48.500 doing that from a from a government budget standpoint you know one of the things that

00:15:51.840 we've asked for kevin mccarthy by the way to do is to support a balanced budget to support a balanced

00:15:55.800 budget amendment but also to adopt the rsc budget republican study committee budget i'm on the task

00:16:00.440 force for that budget uh where we put forth a balanced budget the last two years in a row and

00:16:04.500 that should become the republican uh budget unless we come up with a better one

00:16:08.340 uh congressman uh good before we let you go can you just walk us through how you think this is going

00:16:15.300 to play out tonight because you're clearly one of the key strategists of this for the 20 had to walk

00:16:19.960 us through it's supposed to be back at eight o'clock they could once again ask for another german but as

00:16:24.020 you see it now at what 6 15 or 6 20 uh eastern standard time how do you think this plays out for our

00:16:29.960 audience well my hope would be that we will have more votes against kevin mccarthy or not for kevin

00:16:36.280 mccarthy uh in this first ballot if we have that at eight o'clock as we expect to do so and again it will

00:16:41.900 become increasingly clear to those uh those members who've been supporting him again i believe

00:16:46.440 his support is a mile wide and an inch deep and they're just looking for a reason not to support

00:16:50.740 him anymore they're only in favor of him as long as it's in their own interest to do so and prolonging

00:16:55.580 this process is not in anyone's interest to do so so my hope would be that we may be able to come

00:17:00.240 to a conclusion tonight that it's not going to be kevin mccarthy and that he will withdraw and then we

00:17:05.040 can begin tonight to meet together as republicans or if at the latest tomorrow and begin to do that

00:17:10.620 that would be my hope that he will do that for the good of the country recognize we're not going

00:17:14.500 to move we're not going to cave no matter how long that it takes and i hope that we can get there

00:17:18.240 tonight council good last question the people in your district you guys have been bombarded the last

00:17:24.400 couple of days from every direction where are the people in your district on this issue of kevin

00:17:29.100 mccarthy as they get the phone calls as they get uh as they're calling and talking and calling to you

00:17:33.940 where do you think your constituents stand on this overwhelmingly supportive overwhelmingly supportive

00:17:39.000 i'm doing what i believe is right i'm doing what i know is necessary for the country but it's it's

00:17:43.680 certainly reassuring and encouraging when you know that's also what the people in your district want

00:17:47.380 you to do they've been telling me that for three years since i first started my run for congress in

00:17:51.640 2019 and uh it's overwhelming support now you've got some orchestrated efforts uh paid for by the

00:17:58.040 the mccarthy machine uh for getting calls from outside the district from outside the state sort of

00:18:02.900 robo type calls but not concerned about those people in the district overwhelmingly support what we're doing

00:18:07.800 congressman how do people get to you on social media where where do they go go to good.house.gov

00:18:16.060 just go to our official website and on there has all of our social media connections

00:18:19.300 congressman good uh fantastic uh thank you very much appreciate you coming on great to be with you

00:18:27.020 once again steve take care a true fighter and a patriot right there one of the original of the

00:18:32.600 original five okay um just to get you you heard a congressman good right there congressman good is

00:18:38.680 saying hey they they should come back tonight they asked for an adjournment here even the way they

00:18:42.500 asked for the adjournment i want to make sure our audience understands this is that you know uh bob

00:18:47.900 good and matt rosendahl and uh annie biggs ralph norman the original they they were told that we're

00:18:54.000 going to sit there and we're going to vote and continually vote until we break you and they uh

00:19:00.160 and they challenged uh and they challenged uh these uh men and women and said uh you know we're going to

00:19:05.480 we're going to sit there we're going to vote around the clock eventually we'll break you and kevin

00:19:09.040 mccarthy will be speaker so as soon as they got there they had no earthy idea they thought it was five

00:19:13.660 and this talks about i think the professionalism of the whip and also the little bit of the arrogance

00:19:18.680 they said we just got these five these are extremists and we'll we can take care of this

00:19:23.360 and then uh and what happened is they came out and they had they had 19 and they had 19 pretty quick

00:19:29.440 in the uh they had 19 pretty quick in the uh in the uh in the in the roll call and they were in shock

00:19:35.700 this thing i think mbc they were sitting there seeing an msnbc sitting there with the chyron going

00:19:40.540 and as soon as you get to five you know he's lost the round and they were saying hey we're into the seas

00:19:45.340 only into the season he's lost if the democrats hold and they will uh this thing this this run

00:19:51.540 he's lost this round and so all of a sudden out of nowhere you say last night boom hey we got to

00:19:57.060 have a uh we got to have a uh we got to have an adjournment uh and the talk was beforehand they

00:20:02.140 were going to sit there and vote continually because they thought they had this in fact as i said and i

00:20:07.140 repeat myself i guess mccarthy said hey if i'd leave to go into a conference or leave the floor for

00:20:11.680 an adjournment i'm just going to resign from congress i'm going to go catch a plane california

00:20:15.020 out of here because that's how confident we are and here on the second date remember to sport when

00:20:20.560 they adjourned last night no conference this morning no conference no getting together let's talk this

00:20:26.580 thing out no conference uh at noon when we left the morning show uh they were sitting there going

00:20:32.040 well hang on we want to move from a german till thursday we want to move to an adjournment till

00:20:39.140 thursday this is not having you know they're talking about oh it's slowing down things slowing down

00:20:44.600 they come in the the folks in the cartel that have all the money and all the donors and all the

00:20:51.500 apparatus they have everything you've got these uh insurgents on the other side they're saying no

00:20:56.200 no we can't do this anymore can't do it can't you can't play the game like this can't do it

00:21:00.200 they come in this thing and they're the ones causing all the chaos they're the ones slowing

00:21:04.600 things down oh you could be passing bills you could be doing investigations which is all nonsense

00:21:09.220 and even the the bills are talking about these messaging bills i i i love them i love the the

00:21:14.320 family bill and the irs thing they're going to do and and all that but there's not it's not going

00:21:18.420 anywhere it's not going to pass in the senate it's not going to biden's not going to do anything so

00:21:21.640 they're just messaging bills which is fine but that's not really the work we need to do right now

00:21:25.880 since they took the gavel away from kevin mccarthy and he went along with it let's be blunt he went

00:21:30.980 along with it he was in the roosevelt room a couple weeks ago before christmas and they had

00:21:35.880 schumer and they had uh and they had uh pelosi and they had mcconnell they had him and they had

00:21:41.580 lunch with the uh with the with biden we we did that with president trump all the time to bring

00:21:45.500 people in fact bring right in those guys in schumer have a have a lunch right there talk things through

00:21:50.320 and he they came out he was fine with the omnibus it was only later after this show and others started

00:21:55.880 blowing up said what are you talking about the omnibus not just that probably 1.7 trillion dollars

00:22:00.420 which you can't afford because there's no tax revenue there to cover it you got to borrow the money

00:22:04.880 other than that it also takes away nate makes nancy pelosi the speaker on the appropriation side

00:22:10.920 which is the anvil for another year this is ridiculous then he got old-time religion but

00:22:15.040 even that was very half-hearted when he came to the mic it was like it was too much spending and

00:22:19.800 you know we got uh we got earmarks all this but no it's missing the point the point is that's how you

00:22:25.640 would bring the fbi to heal that's how you bring the justice department to heal that's how you bring the

00:22:30.480 biden regime to heal this is how you bring you zero out the ukraine thing says no if we're going

00:22:34.960 to be at war with ukraine let's come and let's do it like the constant all the constitutional 0.83

00:22:38.720 conservatives where's your constitutional conservatism when it comes to the war in ukraine

00:22:41.980 let's just do like the constitution says let's have biden come down and make the case to the house

00:22:46.220 of representatives let's roll where's that none of it all gone and i think that's what got people i think

00:22:52.460 that's what got people so so concerned is this thing just going to roll and that's why the original

00:22:56.580 people are are so upset i tell you i've got congressman ralph norman let's go to him right

00:23:01.200 now congressman uh we had you on this morning thank you very much walk us through walk us through how

00:23:06.600 the day played out and all of a sudden for the for the team that said they were never going to adjourn

00:23:11.300 and they were just going to grind you guys into the ground with vote after vote after vote they asked

00:23:16.880 for a lot of adjournments after you left they asked for an adjournment till thursday they didn't want

00:23:21.220 to they want to come in and adjourn now they're adjourned tonight till eight o'clock why are they

00:23:25.460 adjourning so much sir and you guys are sitting there going let's vote let's continue to vote

00:23:29.120 what's going on sir well it's interesting steve it's kind of a moving target uh and you know we've

00:23:35.340 had six votes now which is historic um you know since 1923 we've had a case where kevin mccarthy

00:23:42.980 has not gotten the 218 uh and it's kind of been a solid block that has stuck with the guy that we're

00:23:49.440 now backing byron donald's and then uh the you know the the people with that are on with trump with

00:23:56.560 um with mccarthy um you know they really are trying to at this hour they realize this thing could go on

00:24:05.320 for a long time we're not moving we don't have an exit strategy so they have reached out i just uh

00:24:11.420 had a meeting with uh a group with mccarthy he is now reaching out because i think he knows he's got

00:24:17.360 a problem and so um you know there there will be a point of no return and the the no return will be

00:24:26.760 one that'll be just that we'll we'll we'll take this thing as long as it goes we'll have to come

00:24:32.320 up with a candidate and uh so i think uh in mccarthy's uh in mccarthy's world he just wants to try to see

00:24:39.540 what what it what it's going to take to me and i told him this again that um you know we would have

00:24:45.260 never had this option to get you know rule changes that we should have had anyway uh if we had had a

00:24:51.580 30 seat majority it wouldn't happen that's what we want to try to stop and with the budget issues that

00:24:57.260 you and i talked about this morning it's got to be a sincere effort from anybody that that holds it

00:25:01.880 to use leverage nancy pelosi to give her her credit she used leverage to get what she wanted it was the 1.00

00:25:07.620 wrong path of the country but she used leverage and whoever is the next speaker is going to have to be 1.00

00:25:12.360 willing to use that leverage and uh we'll see what happens before we go to commercial break

00:25:18.960 what were the talks substantive did you feel they were substantive particularly in your area that hey

00:25:24.280 this the the debt ceiling and the spending and the appropriation is out of control do you think these

00:25:28.740 were substantive discussions well the devil's in the details and i left the meeting saying look you need

00:25:34.860 to uh look at every ask that we have on not just rules but how are you going to what position are you

00:25:42.100 going to take in september of this year about shutting the government down or raising the debt

00:25:47.180 limit what are you going to do what are you going to tell chuck schumer how are you going to handle

00:25:50.280 the senate when we get leftovers that increase the debt uh that's what's got to be decided and i said

00:25:55.800 from your standpoint uh it's sooner rather than later uh congressman can you hang out for a second

00:26:03.180 we'll take a short commercial break i got a lot more to ask you in fact every all day after we left you

00:26:07.880 uh all the big newspaper financial times wall street journal and of course all the commentators

00:26:13.060 are focused on hey we now see what they're talking about uh this is going to be even a harder deal on

00:26:18.240 the debt ceiling in the appropriations bill their heads were blown up and i want to get down to what

00:26:23.380 this is really about because unless we can get some sort of uh understanding right in a deal here

00:26:29.200 then this is going to be this is going to spin out of control because you see today in um in kentucky

00:26:35.580 where the media was just fawning all over biden and mcconnell and this entire uh group that just

00:26:40.880 wants to spend us into oblivion okay short commercial break congressman ralph norman from

00:26:45.100 south carolina one of the lead uh leaders of this effort to sort things out just left a meeting with

00:26:51.700 kevin mccarthy and his team he's going to join us here after a short commercial break

00:29:49.380 have two years of this congress in session yeah can republicans get stuff done no absolutely not but i

00:30:01.060 don't think they anticipate getting much done with a biden administration and a democratic controlled

00:30:05.580 senate i think what you will see is they will pass kind of messaging bills to try to draw a contrast

00:30:10.840 with democrats going into 24 around issues of the budget and energy and labor and so forth but

00:30:16.820 otherwise what you will see is a healthy amount of investigations right they want to use

00:30:21.160 investigations jim jordan said it's all about beating joe biden uh was his words at cpac a few

00:30:27.240 months back that's why they're going to have the investigations but the one thing they have to do

00:30:31.400 and and repelect lawlor might say they're not going to be held hostage by these 20 but they absolutely

00:30:35.880 will be they have to keep the government open they they both have to pass an annual appropriations

00:30:41.660 bill to keep the government funded and they're going to have to raise the debt ceiling and there 0.99

00:30:45.320 is no way that they're going to be able to keep their entire caucus to give them 218 votes to do

00:30:51.440 either one of those so here's the problem for mccarthy and others who met whoever becomes the speaker

00:30:56.520 they're going to have to work with democrats to keep the government open and that is a death knell for

00:31:01.860 their future because these 20 are going to try to pull the rug out from underneath that speaker as 1.00

00:31:06.220 soon as they can when that happens there's also okay welcome back uh to the war room congressman

00:31:13.080 ralph norman from south carolina jordans congressman since you were on today and actually the first time

00:31:18.340 you came on and said hey this i talked to him about the balanced budget he wasn't serious and that's

00:31:22.300 one i'm part of this uh uh group they call the dissenters now i guess is uh they're all talking about

00:31:28.700 the fact of the debt ceiling the appropriations they understand what this is really about at the

00:31:32.560 end of the day of of getting sorting out the nation's uh finances um give us your perspective

00:31:38.580 mccarthy or anybody else first off you just had this conversation with mccarthy do you think there's a

00:31:44.300 actual attitude in in the republican conference and with mccarthy's leadership to actually understand

00:31:52.220 that the debt ceiling is the massive piece of leverage we have and they're going to move heaven and earth

00:31:56.800 to get us to raise that to some unlimited number of trillions of dollars sir if he doesn't understand

00:32:04.060 that the debt is a problem after what's after he's lost six votes on the house floor i don't know when

00:32:09.220 he will uh and we told him uh we met with russ vote who is is having a budget plan that uh we haven't

00:32:18.620 seen it yet but you know it's one that russ knows the politics he knows what can be what's possible

00:32:24.860 he knows what you know a speaker can't do so what we're doing is uh he's gonna have to take this

00:32:30.520 seriously and you know the raising automatically just raising the debt ceiling that's ludicrous

00:32:35.200 that's what's that's why the democrats uh have put this country in the shape that it's in now and

00:32:39.600 some republicans too now it's d-day now and we've managed to accomplish something to bring attention

00:32:46.740 to the problem because of where we are with with the six uh with the voting up or down on what the

00:32:54.540 who the speaker's going to be and uh i think he's got their attention now and the devil's going to be

00:32:59.220 in the details we we what we told him he needs to come up with a plan he's asking for this job it's up

00:33:05.560 to him to come up with how he's going to solve the budget crisis uh and i hopefully russ votes uh it's

00:33:11.800 one of the litmus tests we'll use on what he can and can't do but no they get the message now

00:33:17.140 and uh it's not business as usual when it comes to spending money and we're going to do everything we

00:33:22.360 can to stop this Biden administration and the spending congressman isn't it pretty shocking

00:33:28.980 this guy's been in leadership for this long has been here you know with canter and with ryan and

00:33:33.520 with boehner and been one of the top guys on tv all the time and it took a congressman from south

00:33:38.880 carolina to say i hope you understand what this is and now he's going to work up a plan and in the

00:33:44.520 11th hour it doesn't does that speak to the to the uh it's not about morals or ethics it's just the

00:33:50.500 not a sophisticated or an adult understanding of where the nation is right now it's pretty shocking

00:33:56.760 we say hey you know we we put it now he understands how how bad it is your understanding of it quite

00:34:03.200 frankly i think that's why it's so refreshing ever since we've had you on here people say hey that is a

00:34:07.560 guy that actually gets it because you don't hear this kind of talk anywhere in washington it's like

00:34:12.040 they have this perception the federal reserve can just keep printing money and the debt doesn't mean

00:34:16.020 anything you brought up something so powerful today that nobody's talking about with the and it's

00:34:20.260 because you come from the real estate industry which is so interest rate intensive you know with

00:34:24.600 the increase in interest rates the payment on the national debt is very quickly going to the the

00:34:30.420 defense budget about a trillion dollars 800 the county says 850 billion but it's closer to a

00:34:35.020 trillion very quickly the interest payment is going to be a trillion dollars nobody even even

00:34:41.540 discusses that in washington how can that be and how what can you do because you've done so much so

00:34:47.280 far but how can you lead an effort and and do you think mccarthy and the guys around him are serious

00:34:51.600 about this you know that's a good question steve i don't know that they think it's that serious for

00:34:57.540 some reason for any of us that have been in the business arena uh it's all about finances it's all

00:35:02.780 about uh you know solvency and it is shocking that he hadn't been more of a when you look at

00:35:09.120 mccarthy's record he just has never been a fiscal hawk i mean for the 14 years they look at the things

00:35:15.020 he's voting on go by any voting card and he just hasn't it hadn't been a focus he's just allowed uh when

00:35:21.000 he was with uh paul ryan and through the years he just he just has not uh been a leader with that

00:35:26.940 and what shocked me was you know on this 1.7 tree and uh heist of the federal treasury he wasn't

00:35:36.540 months ahead of time not that we had the votes but calling attention to it saying this has got to stop

00:35:42.280 and every day holding a press conference and he could have gotten a lot of us and that's what we

00:35:48.020 brought up tonight he's got to be an advocate for that and it's just a symptom of why washington is

00:35:52.580 broken and that's why we're building in numbers you know we started in five and uh everybody said

00:35:57.580 we're crazy well we're up to 20 and going higher and uh this this debt situation cannot be solved

00:36:04.400 with business as usual and uh if he doesn't understand it then uh and doesn't commit to the

00:36:11.600 things that he can change and be an advocate for then we've got a real problem and that's why

00:36:16.220 i have no exit we don't have any exit plans it's not about what he can give or what committee

00:36:22.740 assignment that's off the table it's what are you specifically going to do to get on if it's not a

00:36:28.180 seven-year budget look at russ vote's budget when we see that uh and tell us what you're going to do

00:36:33.440 it's up to him to come up with a plan now we're not we listened and uh it's it's quickly getting to

00:36:39.340 the end where it's going to be a point of no return for kevin and i think he knows that uh he's lost

00:36:44.900 six votes if we vote tonight that will be number seven the 20 of us aren't going anywhere and uh i

00:36:51.920 think he gets it it's kind of sad it takes this amount of call it leverage call it calling attention

00:36:57.660 to uh to bring him to that reality but it is what it is and i guess when you've been in politics

00:37:04.580 too long it taints you and it it makes you null and void to um what the average taxpayer is going

00:37:11.440 through which is not pleasant uh at all at this point in time

00:37:15.760 ken buck actually someone who's big supporters were on cnn and said you know uh look uh i'm a

00:37:23.080 mccarthy supporter but it's going to come a point in time and that point is going to come pretty

00:37:26.660 quickly he's got a choice he's got a path to 218 218 he doesn't have that we're gonna have to talk

00:37:31.520 about alternatives your journey in this started with that conference where you said you asked him

00:37:36.080 he said hey walk me through you for the balanced budget and he kind of blew it off what if it's not

00:37:41.420 kevin mccarthy regardless of who the person is what do they have to tell because you've become kind of

00:37:47.500 kind of become a proxy i think for the movement of a of a kind of a hard-headed tough business guy

00:37:53.820 who uh who needs to be convinced this thing makes sense what do they need to tell you ralph norman

00:38:00.140 on the debt ceiling and the appropriations the finances the spending of the country to say okay

00:38:05.960 you got my vote he's he's gonna have to he's gonna have to to push the 12 appropriations bill

00:38:13.040 on a timely matter uh he's got to get those out for us to vote on individually any spending any new

00:38:19.820 spending any cuts has to be voted on uh he's got to go to single subject legislation and germaneness

00:38:26.420 he's got to insist on 72 hours to look at these bills that are hundreds of pages long and he's got

00:38:33.560 on the budget uh he's got to tell us that he is willing to to tell chuck schumer and tell the senate

00:38:40.760 uh they're not getting anything through if they give us what they gave us with the 1.7 uh and it's got

00:38:47.020 to be hard numbers it's got to be the details have got to be there that's why we told him you come up

00:38:52.240 with what you're going to do and what can commit to and if you can't do it then we'll gauge that

00:38:57.080 we'll get our 20 together and see what what we can accept and uh in in the and we we intend to take

00:39:03.060 this to the floor and sell it uh i don't know how anybody if you call yourself a moderate uh that's

00:39:09.620 just saying i'm willing to uh to bankrupt the country uh you know quicker than than or longer than

00:39:16.780 what we the democrats are doing but we got a short we got a short runway and uh that we're going to

00:39:22.060 hold them accountable and uh if it's not him it's going to be somebody that that recognizes the the

00:39:27.480 financial problems that this country has today and i hopefully we'll see how that comes out but again

00:39:34.220 we're not going anywhere again our votes are solid you notice we've been building we haven't been

00:39:39.140 uh congressman last question uh do you believe that this exercise is the is the beginning of

00:39:47.700 changing of how business is done in this city but there's a cutesy term just drain the swamp which i'd

00:39:53.360 never like because it makes too much it makes too light of this massive problem we have in this town

00:39:59.100 do you believe that this is the start of actually getting uh the the federal government to actually

00:40:06.360 be responsible be accountable to the american people do you think your constituents back home

00:40:12.320 in this audience do you think that this is actually a real start on this not only is it start they're

00:40:17.880 getting a front row seat to what goes on in congress they're getting a front row seat how uh how involved

00:40:24.200 they need to be they need to know where the dollar tax dollars are going they need to know what is the

00:40:28.100 plan to get this country back on financial solvency that's what they will see and uh if we had not done

00:40:34.480 this would we have ever seen it no it would have been a uh you know basically business as usual

00:40:39.900 and more debt and uh and and that's what the the good part about this and to be honest with you steve

00:40:46.160 if this takes longer and longer uh that's fine the good news is we're not spending the taxpayers money

00:40:52.200 the good news is uh you know the government is uh they say shut down well i think the sky hadn't

00:40:58.720 fallen i think the sun came up and uh we're doing the work of the people and we'll stay here as long

00:41:04.700 as it takes you're doing god's work i take congressman norman how do people uh follow you

00:41:10.820 on social media and what's the website they go to to find out rep ralph norman.com

00:41:15.160 sir thank you very much honored to have you on here thank you appreciate it

00:41:21.360 uh is that uh i think it's mr smith goes to washington right there this is what it's taken

00:41:28.180 this is why guys like rosendale and good and norman have come to the forefront because they

00:41:32.940 had the courage courage is contagious they had the courage and i just want to make sure everybody at

00:41:37.600 home understands they on uh tuesday morning when this thing started they they they had uh they had

00:41:46.000 guys up there standing there going we're going to strip you of every one of your committee chair 1.00

00:41:50.400 committee assignments we don't care if your people back in your district are not going to have

00:41:55.200 representation if you stand up there and vote you're done and you're going to get primary

00:42:00.660 so your careers are over everything you've worked for your career is over that's what it took this

00:42:06.260 is what uh this is a profile in courage in the mainstream media and fox news it's chaos it's all

00:42:11.720 that's all nonsense this is the beginning of explaining to the american people not not not the

00:42:19.320 war room audience you guys are into the details all the time but for the rest of the nation exactly

00:42:23.300 what a mess this thing is and you see juxtapose that that uh um and it's it's just a grotesque

00:42:30.380 you know joe biden and mitch mcconnell and sherrod brown and mike dewine over there like i'm not

00:42:36.340 talking about the bridge and the bridge needs to be fixed but it's the process it's now the trains of

00:42:40.480 dollars no accountability you know on the infrastructure bill all done by uh republican

00:42:46.460 collaborationist biden would have accomplished nothing if we had been a party in opposition

00:42:51.620 a real party in opposition and now you're seeing now you're seeing it's 20 of them and but they

00:42:58.580 are very maniacally focused on what these core issues are and the you know and and and the mccarthys

00:43:05.820 of the world can't glad had them and can't kind of do the the shuffle and get around it and that's

00:43:11.820 what's so frustrating to them this is what's going to take and that's why the smart people it's the

00:43:16.240 it's the smartest people at these block sites and at the financial at the ft and the bloomberg and

00:43:21.800 the wall street they absolutely see exactly what's happening here and let me tell you baby it is about

00:43:27.300 the debt ceiling it's about this appropriations bill that's where we were so uh upset when the

00:43:33.300 honor of us got done because we could have had the appropriations to do starting this afternoon

00:43:37.760 and they understand that's leverage this town's about leverage you just mentioned nancy

00:43:40.980 pelosi look i disagree with nancy pelosi on everything and i'm not a particularly fan of

00:43:46.320 hers personally but let me tell you something she rules with an iron fist and she got a lot 1.00

00:43:52.620 accomplished from what she believed in and what her people believed in and what they sent her to

00:43:56.620 washington to do and there's no games with her and she understands leverage and that's what we have 0.93

00:44:02.920 to have sophisticated we have to be as cunning and particularly we have to be as tough and you are

00:44:06.720 seeing right now this is getting very nasty behind the scenes is as nasty and brutal as you could

00:44:12.540 possibly think and it's playing out in in full public view right it's kind of shakespearean in

00:44:18.480 that way so that's why we wanted we're doing kind of wall-to-wall coverage and i would continue to

00:44:22.280 do coverage to save this nation we've told you if you don't get the finances of the country you don't

00:44:28.020 get the economics uh correct particularly the spending if you don't get that right in the administrative

00:44:33.280 state this leviathan that we've allowed to grow up since essentially world war ii or i guess even

00:44:39.740 beginning maybe let's say in the great depression but really in our victory in world war ii if you

00:44:45.120 don't get control of the administrative state which is something the founders never had in mind

00:44:48.620 ever ever but they would come back today and say you've lost your mind you've you've allowed really

00:44:54.160 a tyranny to build up around you of which you're financing on the backs of your children and

00:44:59.240 grandchildren remember always remember because this is going to be such a huge topic going forward

00:45:03.720 because if you think this is a nasty fight if you think this is a tough fight if you think you're

00:45:07.240 being called everything in the book domestic terrorist extremists you ain't seen nothing yet

00:45:10.420 you wait till it gets down to the money you wait till it gets down to the debt ceiling you're going to be

00:45:14.740 called everything always remember that you are the full faith and credit of the united states

00:45:20.000 government you see that dollar bill full faith and credit of a federal reserve note you know it's

00:45:24.100 called a federal reserve note because it's from the federal reserve which you don't own 0.99

00:45:27.160 think about it 24 prime brokers it's so stupid it's so ridiculous even 24 prime brokers own 0.98

00:45:35.520 the central bank that prints the currency your money is printed by somebody else and that's why i say on 0.99

00:45:42.540 the debt ceiling that debt ceiling absolutely not one penny increase look i did mna at goldman sachs

00:45:49.540 after coming out of harvard for for for many many years had my own firm and did this i worked on

00:45:53.220 dozens hundreds and hundreds of bankruptcies this is a bank it's real simple you got a waterfall cash

00:45:59.760 comes in you pay the priority payments right debt payment interest payment on the debt payment social

00:46:04.980 security payment medicare payment everything else okay let's have a discussion right let's have a

00:46:11.740 discussion let's have a discussion but we're going to tie anything with the debt ceiling at all i'm

00:46:18.580 talking about increase anything with the debt ceiling at all a sine qua non has to be a change in the

00:46:26.280 ownership of the federal reserve the currency this nation cannot be owned by 24 prime brokers who make

00:46:33.060 money and a lot of money in the printing of that money in the in the putting of that money into the

00:46:38.920 system this is insanity the system we set up is actually insane because the the wealth concentration is

00:46:46.780 all because of that and you pay for it you pay for not just your taxes your pension funds you're

00:46:52.280 getting crushed financially the average worker since 1971 adjusted for inflation has had a 12 cents per

00:47:00.120 hour increase and of course your net worth has been created we just what lost 30 trillion worldwide

00:47:05.140 10 trillion nine states okay i got krom carmichael krom what we're going to do here is we're going to

00:47:09.660 make sure we have a healthy year for the posse we need everybody at the ramparts and the way we're going to

00:47:30.600 discount krom carmichael steve thanks thanks so much and thanks for having me and all the good work

00:47:36.720 that you do on the war room um steve the reason people should get salty is that heart disease even as bad
