00:32:28.560 and without gold, essentially, the dollar had no intrinsic value,
00:32:31.940 which put the dollar's position as global reserve currency under threat.

00:32:38.160 He sent Kissinger to negotiate with the Saudis,
00:32:41.220 and they came up with the idea of the petrodollar.
00:32:43.880 And the idea was very simple.
00:32:46.160 We secured a deal in exchange for advanced military equipment and training,
00:32:50.980 along with security guarantees.
00:32:52.880 Saudi Arabia would only ever sell oil in U.S. dollars.
00:32:56.880 Now, since virtually everyone in the world imported oil from OPEC,
00:33:01.040 everyone in the world now needed dollars.
00:33:02.940 And essentially, it restored the global demand for the dollar.
00:33:06.120 And, of course, the petrodollar was born, and it has been the cornerstone of dollar supremacy
00:33:11.620 since the end of Bretton Woods.
00:33:13.540 That position is now under threat for a number of reasons.
00:33:16.940 One, we mentioned, the big one, dollar devaluation, right?
00:33:20.660 These people around the world, nations are holding dollars.
00:33:23.980 Losing 20 percent value is simply unsustainable as a long-term plan.
00:33:28.800 On top of that, diplomatic relationships between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia haven't really been
00:33:36.980 that good since September 11th, right?
00:33:40.200 And since the U.S. has become almost completely energy independent, we add to that the bungled
00:33:45.740 withdrawal from Afghanistan, the dumpster fire of Iraq. 1.00
00:33:49.840 Saudi Arabia, I don't think, is feeling quite as secure, depending on U.S. military might.
00:33:55.380 And they are shopping now for potentially a better deal.
00:33:59.560 The U.S. are negotiating, trying to firm up that position, but trying to have their own
00:34:04.100 interests as well.
00:34:05.120 So things are up in the air at the moment.
00:34:07.480 The U.S. dollar's position is certainly a threat.
00:34:10.400 And people have to understand how big that is for our long-term prospects.
00:34:14.440 This is a disaster.
00:34:16.160 And I've said before, it highlights the decisions that are being made by this administration
00:34:20.660 and the spending that's going on.
00:34:22.880 It's absurd in light of what's happening on the global level.
00:34:30.940 The Saudis have, and the Iranians, the Persians, have long-term output deals with China.
00:34:38.220 And the rumor has it that these are not dollar-based.
00:34:41.660 They're actually exchangeable.
00:34:42.820 They're prepared to take the currency risk, at least somewhat, of at least, you know, the
00:34:48.880 Saudis and the Persians are prepared to take some currency exposure with the yuan or RMB
00:34:56.940 in order to – because they're sitting there going, the U.S. is not offering me a better
00:35:01.840 deal, and we're getting massive long-term contracts from the CCP.
00:35:06.920 Do you think that ties into this move off the petrodollar?
00:35:10.520 Yeah, it absolutely does.
00:35:13.740 Look, the Saudis, as early as 2018, have sort of announced a willingness to sell oil in
00:35:20.820 yuan, and it does make sense.
00:35:22.760 At the end of the day, China are now Saudi Arabia's number one customer.
00:35:26.960 India are number two.
00:35:28.240 And Xi announced in 2023 China would be buying oil and gas with yuan, not dollars, period.
00:35:35.340 So we now have – this unofficial petrodollar monopoly is in trouble.
00:35:41.200 And like you said, it's starting to make sense, right?
00:35:44.040 They've got big long-term contracts signed with the Chinese.
00:35:47.320 The Chinese are heavily dependent on Saudi oil.
00:35:50.320 And of course, the U.S. dollar and U.S. security, neither as attractive as they were in, you know,
00:35:56.700 back in the 1970s.
00:35:58.240 So the argument is becoming more and more and more compelling for the Saudis to sell oil
00:36:04.240 outside of the dollar, regardless of the currency risks.
00:36:09.800 You know, you've got Roger Wicker in – I think he's Mississippi.
00:36:13.920 He's saying – and we're talking about this budget, and you see the budget they got,
00:36:16.940 the budget they're talking about, and they're not going to get done by September 3rd because

00:36:21.040 So you're going to get the can kicked down the road, and they'll try to use President 0.62
00:36:24.300 Trump and say, hey, we got to clear the decks, and so we want an omnibus.

00:36:52.940 in actually getting control of the budget deficits.

00:37:00.180 the budget deficits as a percentage and debt as a percentage when is that 7% to 8% if
00:37:06.760 we can keep the interest rates where they are, which is not going to happen, right?
00:37:10.660 Do you see any leaders in the West acting at all rationally with either fiscal policy or
00:37:18.140 monetary policy that's not going to drive us off a cliff, sir?
