00:03:03.840 dollars to stabilize and revive the country's oil industry.
00:03:08.300 Venezuela is sitting on the world's largest oil reserves, but it only accounts for about
00:03:15.000 one percent of the world's oil production.
00:03:18.200 An important note on this.
00:03:20.440 Let me pause here as we're now seeing Nicolas Maduro departing, coming out of the helicopter.
00:03:25.300 We're going to see his wife probably depart right after that.
00:03:28.800 He's going to be now getting into, we assume, getting into another vehicle and heading to the
00:03:33.960 courthouse.
00:03:34.300 Just remarkable to see this.
00:03:36.040 It was just until early morning, the early morning hours of Saturday that this man and
00:03:42.660 his wife were running a country of more than 30 million people.
00:03:46.180 And then that dramatic and violent U.S. military operation taking place is now capture them
00:03:52.040 and now making their way with their hands bound in those tan jumpsuits to be facing a federal
00:03:59.280 judge.
00:03:59.940 Big breaking political news out of Minnesota.
00:04:03.260 Governor Tim Walz, who of course was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2024, has ended
00:04:10.160 his reelection bid for governor.
00:04:13.180 He is not going to run for reelection.
00:04:15.500 This comes as pressure has been growing around this widening welfare fraud scandal.
00:04:20.100 Now, Walz has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but it has been a growing political headache.
00:04:24.880 I think to put things in perspective, I mean, Venezuela is about twice the size of California
00:04:29.220 or even Iraq.
00:04:30.280 So to run a country with 30 million people and Donald Trump says that we are running Venezuela,
00:04:36.120 that I think there are a lot of outstanding questions.
00:04:38.700 And I hope that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are pressing this administration
00:04:42.820 for more details, because if we are, quote, running Venezuela, that is going to entail putting
00:04:48.800 some type of military assets on the ground.
00:04:50.820 And you heard, you know, yesterday, President Trump saying that we're going to extract the
00:04:54.360 wealth from Venezuela from the oil fields.
00:04:56.620 Well, if companies are going to go into Venezuela and start extracting oil, these oil fields
00:05:00.440 are also going to have to be secured.
00:05:02.180 So, again, I have so many questions on what it means that we're running Venezuela, what that
00:05:07.200 means for our military buildup outside the coast of Venezuela.
00:05:09.840 That's obviously putting incredible strain on our military force and, frankly, our readiness.
00:05:15.700 But I think also to the larger point that the president was making on Air Force One yesterday,
00:05:21.040 it seems like we're not stopping at Venezuela.
00:05:23.240 It seems like, you know, he has the sights potentially set on Colombia, Cuba.
00:05:26.980 And, of course, we've obviously heard about Greenland.
00:05:29.260 So I think the question, you know, members of Congress and, frankly, the president's base
00:05:33.800 also need to be asking is, how does this fit into the America First agenda that he ran
00:05:38.740 on, you know, in the 2024 election?
00:05:41.500 Because we are now in getting into the business of nation building, something that the president
00:05:46.080 was, you know, pretty much against for the entire election season.
00:05:50.120 So I have a lot of outstanding questions on what it means for Venezuela, but also the Western
00:05:54.000 hemisphere more broadly.
00:05:55.340 The reality is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had been insistent on running for a third term,
00:06:00.720 which would have been unprecedented in and of itself.
00:06:03.080 Minnesota has not elected a governor for three consecutive terms.
00:06:08.060 But it is that deepening federal probe, as well as this widening scandal.
00:06:12.960 As you said, he is not implicated in this at all.
00:06:15.820 This is actually somewhat old news in Minnesota.
00:06:19.140 This has been going on for years and years.
00:06:21.600 The prosecution started back during the Biden administration.
00:06:24.860 But over the holidays, it certainly did widen.
00:06:27.760 There was a right wing influencer who posted a viral video on social media that quite literally
00:06:34.540 went viral when the vice president of the United States and the FBI director leaned in on this.
00:06:39.060 And it shined a brighter spotlight on really what had been some deep concerns among Minnesota
00:06:44.840 Democrats, even about the wisdom of Governor Walz seeking a third term.
00:06:49.360 They believe that this would hang over the entire reelection effort and perhaps even damage
00:06:53.740 the Democratic Party, even though there is no suggestion that there was wrongdoing.
00:06:58.460 However, this widening scandal happened on his watch.
00:07:03.240 But we are getting his reasoning in a new statement this morning that's ahead of a news conference
00:07:07.500 he's scheduled to hold in just a few hours.
00:07:09.840 And let's take a look at one small portion of this, if we can, John.
00:07:12.860 The governor writes this.

00:07:14.780 And the governor goes on in quite a lengthy statement, which we expect him to read at that
00:07:39.640 news conference, which is going to be happening at 11 a.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
00:07:44.060 He goes on to take direct aim at President Donald Trump and allies of the president and Republican
00:07:49.760 allies who have sought to make political hay out of this, if you will.
00:07:53.140 Of course, they have a lot of this fraud is coming from some leaders of the Somali population
00:07:58.440 in Minneapolis and Minnesota, a longstanding members of the community.
00:08:03.240 And the fraud goes back to the COVID time of federal money that was sent to the state of
00:08:10.920 Minnesota.
00:08:11.340 It was simply misused to the tune of the billions.
00:08:14.720 So dozens have already been convicted.
00:08:17.280 But again, the governor is taking direct aim at President Trump over this for politicizing
00:08:22.000 this entire matter.

00:19:07.620 And then Hellerstein refused to move Donald Trump's court case of the hush money trial from state to federal court also here.

00:19:28.120 So in 2020, they indicted Maduro and they just superseded that indictment with a superseding indictment here,

00:19:42.080 25 years of cooperation with FARC, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, weapons charges, corruption and violence.

00:19:53.580 But they can add to these charges through the superseding indictment or subsequent superseding indictments to involve other things.
00:20:00.980 Like, I know the International Criminal Court's talking about human rights abuses by Maduro right now and other.
00:20:06.700 And there's specific allegations here that Maduro cooperated with the Sinaloa cartel, Trenda Yadagwa,
00:20:12.880 for kidnappings, beatings, murder of rivals, including the trafficking here.

00:20:19.660 And, again, standing on its face, I'm not so sure, you know, if there's a solid case of the prosecutors to get a conviction here.

00:20:30.840 I just wanted to add there's some precedence here for arresting Maduro and bringing him back to the United States.
00:20:37.380 The Cato Institute, Clark Neely, wrote on Saturday,
00:20:40.640 federal courts held that the manner in which a defendant is brought before a U.S. court, even by force,
00:20:45.720 even from foreign soil, does not defeat criminal jurisdiction.
00:20:49.220 He's saying, but according to CNN, they reminded us of a 1989 Bill Barr decision when he was in the Department of Office of Legal Counsel,
00:20:57.880 that a president has the inherent constitutional authority when they got Noriega to order the FBI to take people into custody in foreign countries,
00:21:06.940 even if it violated international law.
00:21:10.360 So a lot is going to unfold here.
00:21:13.700 And the prosecution's going to make their case.
00:21:15.660 And we expect Maduro and his wife, Celia, flown by chopper over from the Metropolitan Detention Center this morning to plead not guilty.
00:21:23.460 One of the things we're watching this thing by the drones or the helicopters that CNN and others had up there is how disturbing.
00:21:31.920 And this is why we need to focus on our country.
00:21:33.580 And it just, it breaks my heart that Mandami is now there, how awful New York City looked.
00:21:40.100 I mean, it looked worse than parts of Caracas.
00:21:42.200 When you go to areas of Brooklyn, the Bronx, other places, it looked absolutely horrific.
00:21:47.800 And I think there should be a big lesson for us, particularly as we focus on all these things that are going on right now.
