00:30:53.040 not just with me, but before that, the Gore Initiative is an organization based in Washington

00:31:01.840 Palestinians and Israelis, Jews and Muslims, and all people who live there. We believe that peace

00:31:07.640 is achievable and can happen when everyone has their own rights. And one of the main things we

00:31:12.860 have been doing in the last couple of years, Steve, is focused on the unfortunate increased

00:31:17.740 attacks on Christians of all backgrounds in the Holocaust, not only Palestinian Christians anymore,

00:31:23.480 but Christians, period. Yeah, we had this attack, I guess, that was caught on video.

00:31:31.780 The first time you had the IDF soldier that was destroying the crucifix, the large crucifix. You

00:31:38.640 had been in this situation with, I guess, a French nun that was attacked. My understanding

00:31:44.380 has been arrested. Why do we seem to have an increase? It's simply that there's more

00:31:49.140 surveillance technology or cell phones out there, and we're seeing it. It's been going on for a

00:31:54.300 while, or is it really an increase? And if it is an increase, what is causing that?

00:31:59.840 The truth is that such attacks has always been there in the hololand by Israeli radicals. But 0.78

00:32:06.540 for historical records, these groups used to be fragile and used to be French. They weren't really

00:32:14.300 in the mainstream Israeli politics.

00:33:10.540 hard to know whether this is an attack because these people are uh christians or whether because

00:33:16.320 they're palestinians only but now we're seeing attacks on christians because they're christians

00:33:20.840 and to give you an example this man that was attacked she was french national she's not

00:33:25.300 palestinian she's not arab nor middle eastern was attacked only because she is a christian

00:33:30.380 what is people when they think about the far right the far right in israel they think it's

00:33:38.480 it's anti-Islamic, anti-Muslim.

00:33:42.120 Talk to me about its anti-Christian, 1.00

00:33:49.360 So I'll give you an example from a personal relationship

00:33:53.120 I had with a great friend of mine who's an Israeli.

00:33:56.460 He's Zionist, and he was at one of those yeshivas

00:34:01.060 the Israelis called Judea and Samaria.

00:34:03.000 He was religious, Zionist.

00:34:04.300 part of these yeshivas is like the school where Jewish rabbis learn. And he told me one of the

00:34:11.600 things they learn at those yeshivas is that although we are fighting with the Muslims right 0.89

00:34:16.760 now, the main enemy from their point of view theologically are the Christians because Muslims

00:34:21.940 like Jews believe in what's so known as monotheism. And therefore, they look at Muslims as monotheistic 0.68

00:34:28.760 religion. They have more in common with them than with Christianity. But he said the main enemy is 0.61

00:34:34.040 always Christians because the Trinity, because, for example, they're not allowed to go to churches

00:34:38.520 and pray there. And usually the implication of that also that churches shouldn't be there for 0.64

00:34:43.720 a lot of those extreme settlers, because the churches, unlike mosques, are seen as sign of

00:34:50.880 adultery. So that's, I think, the issue we're dealing with right now. Today, the main right-wing

00:34:57.480 newspaper in Israel, like center-right, not extreme-right, has published an article

00:35:02.040 in which it said that the attacks on Christians

00:35:05.720 has gotten out of hands in Israel

00:35:08.700 to the extent that they recorded over 61 attacks

00:35:12.580 on religious figures,

00:35:14.200 on like nuns and priests in the year 2025,

00:35:17.960 over 18 attacks in Jerusalem against churches

00:35:20.820 and over 51 attacks

00:35:23.900 that harmed Christian properties in Jerusalem.

00:35:27.160 The number of Christians in Jerusalem

00:35:28.840 has dropped to a historically very low number.

00:35:31.680 Less than 1% there are Christians in Jerusalem.

00:35:34.540 Back in 1925, under the British mandate, we had about 28% Christians in Jerusalem.

00:35:43.440 How could this be happening now when we are allies in this war in Iran and Israel militarily is so dependent upon the United States of America?

00:35:55.160 How could you have this increase in attacks on Christians at the same time, more than ever, the Israeli military is tied to the United States military?

00:36:03.800 Whether people like that or not, it just happens to be a fact.

00:36:08.140 How could you be fighting a war and prosecuting a war that, as Marco Rubio said, not Steve Bannon, Marco Rubio said at the sticks of the State Department, that the imminent attack was going to be on Israel and that's why we attacked first?

00:36:22.860 How could this be happening during this war?

00:36:25.160 The reality is that the Israelis view the Americans as naive and they view them as people they can manipulate and people who are more or less under their control, not in some sort of anti-Semitic conspiracy.

00:36:40.000 No, I'm not suggesting that, but they understand that they have influence.

00:36:43.160 Netanyahu is on the record saying we got the Americans in our bucket and we can depend on ABAC,

00:36:50.420 we can depend on other pro-Israel lobbies there that the U.S. will support us no matter what we're doing.

00:36:57.740 And they also depend on what's so known as Christian Zionism here in the U.S.

00:37:01.600 and groups like CUFI and groups like, you know, other Christian Zionists who have taken space among the conservative Christians here. 0.72

00:37:11.440 And they think that these people will support them no matter what. 0.62

00:37:14.540 And for so long, they've managed to bring all sort of Christians to the Holy Land to see Jerusalem and the holy sites while ignoring the Christians who live there, whether they're Palestinian Christians who their ancestors have been there for 2000 years like myself, or even just like German and French and American monks and priests who live there.

00:37:33.480 And because they live there, they've been spit on, they've been attacked by Israeli extremists.

00:37:38.600 And when these tours are taken to Israel, they ignore completely that reality and the people who live there in order to shape the American mind to think that there is some sort of complete, you know, civilizational alignment between the state of Israel and the U.S.

00:37:54.820 And the truth is, even if that has element of truth historically, with the new thinking in Israel, there are more anti-Christian hate.

00:38:03.740 And there are obviously also anti-Muslim hate and anti-other groups hate in a way that is, in my opinion, anti-Christian too.

00:38:11.520 Because as Christians, we are taught by our Lord to see everyone created in the image of God.

00:38:17.100 When I see a Muslim kid dying or when I see a Jewish kid dying, I should grieve and cry in the same way as when I see a Christian kid dying.

00:38:25.280 But the unfortunate reality, we have what so used to be a minority in Israel that have managed to grab power right now and think otherwise, think that Jewish life and Israeli Jewish life specifically matters much more than anyone else there. 0.63

00:38:41.020 Why do the Christians in the Holy Land not have more support?

00:38:46.180 And let's set aside the evangelical churches here and the megachurches that are maybe very tied to Israel, but the Catholic Church and Orthodox, other churches, the other major branches of the Christian faith, the Catholicism, the Orthodox Church, they're not exactly, they don't exactly have your guys back, right?

00:39:05.960 not fully uh you know uh partially uh the the church itself the institutions there do support

00:39:13.960 christians as as much as possible including by schools uh that they are provided to palestine

00:39:19.800 christians and to muslims for for that sake the church serves both the hospitals etc but you haven't

00:39:24.640 but hang on but hang but hang on yes they do that i got that but yeah like these incidents have been

00:39:29.880 happening recently you really haven't seen they haven't come in and dropped the hammer

00:39:33.440 and used all the influence and power that they do have on any of this.

00:39:38.300 This has been people that have been outraged.

00:39:40.740 These are Catholics and Christians have been outraged about what's going on

00:39:43.660 and have made a big deal about this.

00:39:45.440 But the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church

00:39:47.360 and all the different branches of the Orthodox Church

00:39:49.420 have really sat by and done nothing.

00:39:52.000 Yes, and I think that's the difference between, like, you know,

00:39:54.580 the leadership of the church in Jerusalem have been consistent

00:39:57.260 in calling out these attacks, but the leaders of the church in the West

00:40:00.600 and specifically in America, has been very reluctant to talk about these issues.

00:40:05.400 Remember when Carrie Poehler brought up these issues at the hearing of the White House Committee on Religious Freedom,

00:40:13.060 she was fired, but also condemned by certain pishops at the Catholic Church here in the U.S.

00:40:17.800 And I think their concern is that these issues are right away taught as, you know, it's anti-Semitic, these accusations, etc.

00:40:28.420 Now, obviously, anti-Semitic is evil. We would never support or endorse that. But to say that any criticism of Israel, any criticism of these Israeli extremists who are killing Palestinians or killing Muslims or killing Christians is anti-Semitic. It's really wrong.

00:40:43.760 And I think a lot of these Catholics, brothers and sisters here in the U.S. are really drained by what's so known as the Jewish-Christian religious dialogue. 0.77

00:40:53.760 And they are more or less, I mean, the way I see it is almost blackmailed by our Jewish brothers and sisters to tell them in order for us to talk to you about religious dialogue and harmony here in the U.S. and pluralism, you have to fully support Israel, never criticize Israel. 0.59

00:41:07.340 And I didn't see enough Christian leaders who would say to them, oh, listen, wait a second.

00:41:12.680 We are committed to the safety of American Jews.

00:41:15.360 We're committing to the safety of Jewish people worldwide.

00:41:18.040 But listen, you also have to care about Christians, brothers and sisters in Israel, in Jerusalem, and also in the Palestinian territories.
