00:12:16.700 important. And the Houthis have taken two ports on the mainland of Yemen because even 0.56
00:12:23.780 Even though we think of Saudi Arabia as that triangle, it's also that bottom side on the

00:20:57.660 aiming at reducing oil coming out of the Red Sea. This is something that could have been done,
00:21:02.680 as far as I can tell, quite a while ago, but they waited until a lot of the world's shock
00:21:06.820 absorbers were gone. In other words, until a lot of things like the Strategic Petroleum Reserve,
00:21:12.080 the excess oil at the Cushing, Oklahoma facility, and other places around the world, they waited
00:21:17.140 until those stockpiles were drawn down before these strikes. And I think the reason for that
00:21:23.020 might be to inflict maximum damage. Now, I'm a political neophyte here, right? I'm a monetary
00:21:28.400 scientist. So that's a bit of a guess on my part. But what I can tell you from the strictly
00:21:33.940 economic perspective here is that the world runs on diesel. The global economy, the US economy,
00:21:39.960 it runs on diesel. And this is something the war room knew about months ago, Steve, because
00:21:45.080 you and I talked about it months ago. The fact that this is going to drive up diesel prices and
00:21:50.360 an initial spike in fuel is going to take a while because, again, we have a lot of these shock
00:21:55.660 absorbers, but eventually it's going to hit. And then it's going to be sometime after that before
00:22:01.340 you finally see the higher diesel prices affect the price of things everywhere else. Look, gas
00:22:07.240 prices hit the consumer in the face because you see it every week when you go to fill up, right?
00:22:11.700 It's the only price that as you drive around, it's advertised on a big billboard everywhere.
00:22:16.020 You don't see that for things like a gallon of milk or a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread, whatever

00:22:44.000 what are the numbers telling us? What's the narrative that we can tell here? It's that so
00:22:50.160 many of the price increases in coming months are already baked into the cake because of what
00:22:55.620 happened not only last month with diesel prices, but just in the last 10 or 11 days or so, which
00:23:01.420 is not even in this last CPI print. And to a certain extent, it's already very stale data
00:23:06.700 because we've had so many fuel price increases come thereafter.

00:24:27.140 words, $9.99 and nine tenths of a cent. Now, obviously, look, California is a special case,
00:24:33.060 right? It's the land of fruits and nuts. They have always had higher fuel prices for many,
00:24:37.260 many years compared to the rest of the country. But if you look at the increase in diesel prices
00:24:42.880 compared to a year ago, that's universal. Every single state is significantly higher.
00:24:48.300 And now most states around the country are setting record highs in terms of
00:24:51.920 their respective diesel prices. So sure, the price in Texas is going to be lower than it is
00:24:56.780 in California, but both places are setting records. That I think is the important point
00:25:02.200 to remember here. And again, when we go back to that global supply story, Steve, we basically have
00:25:09.100 seen virtually no demand destruction this year. In other words, we have continued consuming oil
00:25:14.020 at not quite but close to the pre-war pace. One of the reasons why it's been down a little bit
00:25:19.700 is actually because China's economic growth has not kept up to where we thought it would be.
00:25:23.660 So they haven't been consuming as much oil simply because their economy is not running as hot,
00:25:28.240 right? They're not producing as much. They don't have as much energy needs, et cetera.
00:25:32.200 they're coming back online and in a big way. Whether or not that has something to do with
00:25:36.780 the midterms, possibly, I don't know. But whatever the case, to make up for the lost supply of what's
00:25:41.980 not coming out of the Middle East, what we've been doing is just drawing down all of our reserves.
00:25:46.640 Again, in the United States, we have the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Lots of other nations around
00:25:50.760 the world have their own reserves. Everybody has been bleeding those dry at just a torrid pace
00:25:57.360 in order to try to keep up with demand that has really unchanged.
00:26:01.620 That's why prices haven't gone up that much, but now they are.
00:26:05.540 And I think the reason for that, again, it comes back to the fact that if you're going
00:26:09.360 to have any significant demand destruction in something that's so inelastic, as we like
00:26:14.340 to say in economics, something so inelastic as oil, the price has to rise very dramatically
00:26:19.940 before the consumer is going to pull back, before people are going to drive less, before
00:26:24.740 factories are going to start decreasing production, for example. And we may be getting very,
00:26:31.020 very close to that, unfortunately, where again, you don't have a lot of shock absorbers left in
00:26:35.660 the system. In other words, ways to supplement supply. It's going to be years before something
00:26:40.120 like Venezuela comes online and increases supply in a very impactful way, I think.
00:26:46.060 And so what's left to match that mismatch between supply and demand? Well, either supply has to go
00:26:53.140 up. It really can't. Now it's going lower with what's happening in Saudi Arabia. And so demand
00:26:59.540 is going to have to come down. Otherwise, you're going to start running out of oil. How does demand
00:27:02.900 come down? Well, basically, people are going to bid up the price of oil to see who actually gets
00:27:07.800 it. And I think that's what we're seeing now. If the disruptions out of the Middle East end,
00:27:12.740 if the refining disruptions out of Eastern Europe, if both of those things continue,
00:27:17.880 you're going to see both brent and wti continue to march higher and you're going to continue to
00:27:23.780 see crack spreads through the roof which in other words means diesel and gas prices are going to
